The first time I learned that Night = Scary in FFXV was that one quest for Takka where you had to get an ingredient only found in Galdin Quay. I think it was a tomato.

I wanted to finish all the quests I could before moving on, so I figured I would just go and then come back. It was late into the day in game but I thought it was a short distance and it wouldn't be a big deal.

The first clue should have been Ignis refusing to drive but I was alright just letting Noctis drive.

I only ended up half way to Galdin before an iron giant spawns in the middle of the road. The guys were all still babies in terms of level and they couldn't take on an iron giant, so I ditched the car in the middle of the road and the guys hauled ass on foot back to Hammerhead while iron giants were spawning behind the guys.

I was more careful after that.

So despite growing tomatoes yearly since about 2018 or so, I’ve clearly done a beginners mistake in the form of overwatering my plants.

Pretty much all of my plants are showing these signs but Especially this Neapolitan variety of Piennolo seems to be very sensitive to too much water.

Don’t do what I did, unless it’s crazy high temperatures or super dry conditions you probably shouldn’t water your tomatoes daily or even bi-daily this early on in the season.

I have a question for knitters/fiber craft people.

I have a wool yarn that I want to use to make a cardigan. It’s worsted weight and it’s label says to use between 4.5 mm - 5.5 mm needles. I have 5.0 mm needles so no problem there. The pattern I’m using, however, says to use 6.0 mm needles with worsted weight yarn.

So do I follow the pattern or the label the yarn comes with??

Hard agree on your and anon's take on JoongDunk's platonic dudebros vibe and that is actually the reason I like JD. Have you seen the vid of Joong introducing Dunk as "small and easy to carry" and Dunk one-upped him by calling Joong "big and easy to ride" and Joong reacts like "Oh dude, you got game!?". It's obvious it's performative fanservice aimed to entertain audience, but at the same time it's playful banter, seeing if they could match or one-up each other's jokes and that dynamic of being able to have fun while keeping it playful and unserious is probably the one I'd want if I were a bl actor. I cannot enjoy fanservice when actors act like they're in a real relationship, too cringe and toxic *cough* mg *cough* and if it's real, I'd feel like a creep intruding on personal lives. I can freely enjoy JoongDunk for their neonsign "platonic friends being playful", along with their sheer force of social media marketing. Joong obviously a pro with his longtime experience in the industry and even majoring in university, while Dunk somehow maintaing that level of engagement when he doesn't even dance or sing is a mystery to me (tho I think he found his niche in cooking vids which had good views that Joong actually imitated him), but I think both working hard on social media promotion also makes them a good match for maintaining the same level of engagement. And I heard that's how they built their popularity even though SIMM was lackluster? Kudos to them.

i said this before in another ask, but i do think their "flirting" and fanservice does very much come from a genuine place. i think they just play it up for fun and not necessarily even as a "service" for the fans but also for their own enjoyment, either because they enjoy the other's reaction to whatever cheesy thing they say or do or because they enjoy one-upping each other (as you mention in your ask) or also because they simply just enjoy the fan's reaction as well. i think they're as entertained by us as we are entertained by them (mostly, at least kjkjsdfgdkg) (maybe not when joong is asked "WhErE iS dUnK" for the 43943945th time that day)

like, they are clearly also getting something out of their flirty banter, not just us. they're clearly having a blast with it while at the same time it's so obvious that it really only is a joke and that they really are just friends, nothing more, and that makes it so enjoyable to me to watch them and to follow them. they're clowns and i'm right here riding their clown car with them

and i agree with you, i can't enjoy it either when it seems like a cp is trying too hard to seem "real". it's like. why? why are you trying to sell me a lie? and if they are dating, then i'd feel even weirder for the exact same reason you mention, like... i don't know them. i'd very much feel like i'd be intruding

i much prefer knowing exactly where i'm at and so i very much enjoy the "we are strictly bros who just happen to say the flirtiest shit for fun" energy that joong and dunk bring. i'm super seated for that

and i just find it extremely fascinating how that bro-energy that they have in private just completely disappears when they're on camera playing characters. when i watch joong and dunk in private i'm always like "ain't no way these two are in love" (like delulu stans would like to believe) whereas when i watch any of their bls i'm like "ain't no way these two are NOT in love". love it when actors do actor things <3

and yeah, i wasn't really following them back during simm era (though i watched the series live after ep2) but i do remember that a lot of people said that they didn't enjoy simm but they very much enjoyed joongdunk "in private"! idk how active they were on social media bc yeah, i only really started following them more closely outside their series at the end of 2023, but i wouldn't be surprised if their social media activity helped them become popular

While I of course dislike generative AI as much as any other person - and I understand the skepticism that people now have to operate under when interacting with art - one of the most disheartening and infuriating things that have cropped up recently still, for me at least, is the rise in accusing of or confusing any and all weird or incomprehensible art with AI. Like, weird art is just not respected... before, there have been assumptions that the person making it is necessarily mentally ill or disordered. Or that they used drugs in the making. Or that they're just pouring thought salad onto the page without any care or intention towards it. And now.... people have found their new label to put on it. The new 'reason' for why it's so weird - that the artist didn't make it at all. Like- to an extend, I can understand it of course- AI is random and makes weird mistakes and generally looks uncanny, so the connection made here I can see. But ... I still feel like it betrays a sense of lack of understanding of how gen AI works and looks, when otherwise perfectly inconspicuous, soulful and personal art gets labeled as 'AI' just because you don't understand it. Like, there's other ways to spot AI. There's certain inconsistencies and patterns and quirks. And the most important thing- it will not be creative. AI art can't be creative. Human art can, and is, especially weird art. So it's just... so, so sad to me, to see that creativity be discarded, and the effort of the artist denied. Just because the art denies conventions.

I don't have a solution to this. Beyond just advising people to inform themselves better of the actual tells of AI art, I can't tell people to be less suspicious- that would be foolish. But I just... please. Please, understand. That the things that the human mind is capable of conjuring is infinitely vast and complicated. Please don't forget that in favor of instead hauling the credit off to the machine. And please - if you are already sure that the art isn't actually made with AI - don't comment on people's art on how it looks like AI (unless the artist is intentionally trying to replicate the style). I doubt any artist has ever read that as a compliment.

You don't need to give it that power. You just don't.

I wonder what made Kuang decide to have her not!Mao character go through childhood as an orphan who grows up to take the civil service exam (well like, what reasons besides being 19 years old and living in a culture soaked with nonsense about the Hero's Journey). the exams were ended when Mao was 8, he hated studying and his parents had an arranged marriage for him that was intended to increase the family's standing/wealth. those facts all seem harmonious or at least compatible with a story about a young woman trying to escape from her rural backwater hometown during a period of political unrest — motifs about patriarchy included.

in science fiction and fantasy, you can write these analogies but you have to actually think through the similarities and differences between each of the terms, lest you end up writing a generic Plucky, Young Protagonist going on a generic adventure. I don't think most readers would even identify the not!Mao and the not!Chiang if they weren't prepared to read the book that way by author interviews; the details to make that connection on your own aren't even there and so instead of an analogy that comments on the world in some way, you just have a mediocre story. rather than for the characters, she brings in historical details for the background events and the world building, and then she doesn't even modify them for some aesthetic purpose. they're just trivia of real world events.

So I decided- hey- since I actually do enjoy digital art, why don’t I suck it up and ya know, actually get Procreate?

I’m about to lose my MIND. You’re telling me most of the frustration I had with my drawings in the other free app was the constant switching between inadequate brushes and a fill tool that was *not great*?

This was about four to five minutes of foolin’ around just to learn the basic features- and the first pencil option is already ten times more satisfying to use.

Pulling my hair out rn- and I don’t have much to begin with 😭
