Another Bonkai Fanart, my fiancee draw. It's a AU Story from one of our RPs. Just in case if you wonder why there is a Spotify running in the background.

I loved your answer about the Bennetts and it makes me curious how you feel about how the originals show handles/barley mentions them
Honestly relieved.
Let's be honest, The Originals didn't handle POC characters any better than TVD did. So I know they would have handled it just as poorly. Don't even get me started on how the show treated Marcel and Vincent or any of the many women of color they killed off for the plot.
Now in reality (if the show was real), the Bennetts would have been all over New Orleans. The show really said the Bennetts were in the Americas before Europe had even invaded and then pretended that the Bennetts didn't have ties to nearly every coven in North America. We know they were focused in Salem until they were run out and found their way to Mystic Falls. But we also know they are often not found together and we see them in so many cities, so it would make sense that they would have ties to most of the covens. Especially in a city like New Orleans that is flooded with magic. The Bennetts would have found their way there at some point.
The Mikaelsons also have a long history with the Bennetts so even if the the Bennetts hadn't already been in New Orleans, I would think the Mikaelsons would have dragged them into their drama at some point. Now I could see the Bennett witches fleeing the city as soon as the Mikaelsons landed knowing they only bring pain to witches. But if the Bennetts had been there, they likely would have prevented the Mikaelsons from settling.
There were so many times throughout The Originals that they were stumped and the audience was yelling at the characters because Bonnie already solved these problems in TVD. Now I don't compare witch powers because the show is so inconsistent with power level that I don't think it's possible, but Bonnie was a powerful witch who would have been incredibly useful. A witch whom the Mikaelsons were all very aware of.
A couple of moments where I was expecting Bonnie to get dragged in or at least mentioned:
When Hope was sent with Rebekah. They said she was cloaked by a witch but the Mikaelsons didn't have a witch in the family yet. Who would they have trusted to do it? Who would be powerful enough to make the New Orleans coven/Esther unable to track her? I could see Klaus calling Bonnie up with all kinds of threats to cloak Hope.
When Freya was in the chambre and Hayley was trying to bring them back. She mentions she had a witch but doesn't name one. This would have been an easy moment to mention the Bennetts. After all, Hayley knows Bonnie and could have tried to plead with her to help. She could have at least started there.
The most ridiculous moment is at the end when they die to kill the Hollow, like Bonnie hasn't been creating worlds to trap souls in for years. Bonnie and Freya would have been a cool team-up moment at the end to save the day.
I do think it would be hard to explain why Bonnie was willing to help them at any point, but that goes for any witch. None of them wanted to help the Mikaelsons but did so for various reasons.
TVD created this long history of Bennett witches that constantly interacted with the Original family and yet were not mentioned once throughout their show. It just made no sense.
I don't ship Bonnie with any of the Mikaelsons for many reasons but I think it would have been such a good story to see her come to New Orleans and interact with Marcel, Davina, Vincent, etc. I think they would have welcomed her in as a fellow Mikaelson-anti and I really wanted to see Bonnie with more witch friends. They could have taught each other so much.
But personally, I wanted Bonnie and Enzo to leave the MFG behind and start their own life. I could see Bonnie bringing her distant relatives together and finally creating a home for the Bennett coven. She deserved that way more than continuing to get tied up in the vampire drama.
Thanks for asking! Bonnie is one of my favorite TVD characters and I don't talk about her nearly enough.

Happy Holidays and Thanksgiving to those who celebrate! Here are four pages of the witchy parts of the grimoire that kind of explain a few things:) or I guess just refine a few of the concepts from the show a bit more. I did make some of the text hard to read on purpose to keep some things hidden, so yeah...I’ll be actually illustrating spells in the next round;) Lemme know what ya’ll think! If there’s typos, my badXD

Thinking about it I don't ever recall bonnie being in a scene with Joshua parker 🤔 he's this big coven leader who has history with her grandmother and coven yet there's no scene with them kind of doesn't make any sense
It does fit into the usual formula of them never having bonnie involved with big significant roles with other witches even when her own family is involved or has history with another character
The originals and qetsiyah and silas is another example

Theory: Qetsiyah's immortality spell
While we'll never know the details of the true immortality spell, something Qetsiyah says and the writers shown stuck out to me.
Once Silas and Amara drank the elixir, everything around them (plants, crops, flowers) started to die. I wonder if Qetsiyah used the earth itself as the source to create the elixir for immortality. [The raw power / traditional magic Qet used for that alone was something]. And it was traditional magic, too.] I can see what Markos's meant of them saying , f keeping the balance when witches have such power to do these amazing things 👀
Anyway, that scene happening would sort of explain why nature never found a loophole for Silas and Amara's immortality other than creating the doppelgängers (a mortal creature that represents their deaths) to balance out their true immortality. I mean, nature/earth can't kill itself (in theory). Since it's immortal in a sense... the only downside was that they'd lose their magic, which is, I guess, another side effect. But maybe even that could be bypassed
We'll never know, but just wanted to share my theory on here

I know why but it’s very telling people define the Bennett’s as the weaker bloodline because they aren’t shown as combative as the other witch bloodlines. When none of the other witch bloodlines have any creations to their name.
This is a very short meta of my “the Bennett’s are just as capable of being ruthless” thoughts.

What is your thoughts on the Gemini and bennett arc ?
Hi! Thank you for the ask!
I wish the connection between the Bennetts and Geminis were more explored. We know Sheila helped the Gemini coven create the 1994 prison world, she mentored Jo as well, and we know both Bennett and Gemini covens both opposed the Travelers, but these things are never elaborated on. As i’ve stated in other rants, the Bennetts are quite literally connected to every main storyline. Yet, instead of developing these connections, they are discarded and never mentioned again once the writers are done using the Bennetts as plot devices to further other character’s stories.
The Parkers are given more lore and backstory than the Bennetts, yet are still under developed and aren’t relatively entertaining outside of Kai and his motivations. It would have been great if the writers furthered the Bennett-Parker lore through Bonnie and Kai. Instead we are given a vampire surrogate storyline that still baffles me.

What's your thoughts on the Bennett coven and their lore?
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if you're asking about how they are depicted or just generally about them so I'll answer both. It has been a while since I've rewatched TVD, so correct me if I'm wrong on anything.
Generally, the Bennett coven is one of the oldest and most powerful covens in TVDU. I know there is so much debate over the different witches and I'm not here to do that. While, yes, there are other powerful witch families, the Bennetts have a very long history and enough members to make an actual coven on their own, unlike a lot of other families. If the writers and producers were different people, I would love to see a spinoff focused on them. You could pick any time period and it would be an incredible story.
The show tells us they are so powerful because we consistently see other powerful beings (witches, vampires, and even werewolves) coming to them for help. Silas and Amara rely on Qetsiyah, without whom there would be no TVDU. Esther relies on Ayana, the brotherhood relies on a Bennett witch, a Bennett witch creates the weapon used against the sirens, Katherine relies on Emily, and then the entire TVDU on Bonnie. Even at Grams' age, she still had Damon backing off. Every time they bring up a new villain, somehow the Bennett coven has been involved.
So while we can argue witch against witch (which I'm not going to do), I don't think you can say there is a coven that could go head to head against the Bennett coven. They just have a much deeper history than any other coven we are shown. The Travelers may be the only ones that have as much history, but the Bennetts derive from them through Qetsiyah.
Now I don't think we can talk about the Bennett witches without mentioning the racism that permeates the TVDU. No matter how powerful they are, the Bennet witches are often delegated to sidekicks, which makes no sense given their power. Qetsiyah is the only Bennett witch that we see actually get revenge for the wrong that was done to her and she is seen as a villain for it. The Bennett witches are constantly losing their lives helping people who are just taking advantage of them. People like to paint it as they are helping their friends, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Especially when you factor in the time periods these "friendships" happened in. Katherine and Emily were not friends. The Bennett witches were constantly used and abused until they died trying to help others.
The Bennetts are not given their own storylines that don't directly impact the "main characters." They don't even get relationships (both romantic/platonic/familial) unless it can be used against them. Throughout history we always see the Bennett witches on their own, removed from their family.
A big reason that they could be so spread out is because of how powerful they were. If the Bennetts all stayed together, they would be an unstoppable force. But they would also attract a lot of attention and put an even bigger target on their backs. The Bennetts have a deep respect for their ancestors, so you would think we would see them form a coven like the New Orleans witches or even the Travelers. But because of their power, they are forced to live separate lives, not even staying in contact. I would have loved to see an actual Bennett coven.
Bonnie not knowing she is a witch until her teenage years goes against everything we know about witches. Hope has access to her magic as a baby, yet Bonnie doesn't until she is well into her teenage years. I would have loved to see it where Grams raised Bonnie herself and she grew up as a witch. But honestly, the show couldn't have done that because most of what happened in season 1 and season 2 wouldn't have if Bonnie had fully understood her power. She easily could take down the Originals, so a couple newbie vamps wouldn't have stood a chance.
Not sure if this is what you wanted, but if you have a more specific question that I didn't answer, feel free to ask!

Happy Holidays:) Hope you all are having a great time, here are some spell pages of the grimoire! I’ll be doing two more pages on witches explaining emotions and limitations and I’ll be done with this section T.T I really loved testing out how spells would look for each character. Thanks to the discord for helping with some of the ideas and feedback. I do want to explain the red tints in bonnie’s hair- @leianaberrie was hoping to see some of the red in Bonnie’s hair from the books in some sketches, so when I tried it out, I ended up liking it a lot. I think I’ll keep the tint of red for when she uses magic or for lighting when she uses fire spells, what do you think? I really ended up liking these last few looks for her for the beginning of the comic, so I definitely think this is a good final look for her design in the beginning of the story. Anyways, see ya!

I never understand why kai always gets compared to lizzie and Josie other then them being siphoners and sharing blood they have nothing in common with the man
They didn't grow up in a coven filled with manipulation abuse and pressure to merge and kill their own sibling
Nor was they isolated away from their siblings out of hatred for having the ability to siphon
The Gemini coven had at least a century of hatred and lack of understanding of the ability to siphon their hatred was mentioned throughout kai arc and the heretics after
Kai has a mental illness that isn't comparable to lizzie because his was developed by years of Psychological abuse and possibly magical abuse because how else does anyone think Joshua probably Enforced the lack of touching throughout kai childhood and I imagine whenever kai was tempted he was Severely punished in some way shape or form I wish we got more in depth details about kai life before the vampire diaries there is so many unanswered questions about him and the Gemini coven and the Bennetts connection with them there was alot of wasted potential that will never be Rectified unfortunately
