With the latest Science Experiment!Reader - how would Jason react after her nightmare? Would Jason try to stay with her after the nightmare so she doesn’t wake up alone and drugged? Or would he leave, then sneak back up there? Or would she react badly to him being there?
Ari, I can’t thank you enough for sharing these stories - I simply adore them, and am so grateful that you share the gifts of your Muse with us. Be safe, well, and as happy as possible.
I'm just doing my best. One dummy with a laptop and a dream
For two days, you were like a ghost.
The only evidence you'd been anywhere was a shadow. A sense of unease they hadn't felt themselves. A whiff of body spray lingering. The rattle of ice in a metal water bottle.
You hardly ate. You didn't sleep. But you worked. Usually, while the rest of them slept. Buried under piles of data, evidence, and reports. Watching out for new leads.
And Jason could hardly stand it by day three. He looked at your empty chair at breakfast. Everyone else had long since left. Leaving he and Bruce the only ones still nursing coffee. "Don't," Bruce cautioned.
"You tell the rest of us to get over it," Jason snorted.
"The rest of you can't make people kill themselves with your mind," Bruce sighed.
"I can make it look like they did," Jason said.
"Not the same thing."
"But-"
Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose, "Listen. She feels guilty. She feels ashamed. And she's trying to maintain control. I spoke to her and she was... less than stable. It's uncomfortable for her to be this close to people. And it's... well frankly not comfortable for people to be around her unless they're prepared to deal-"
"I watched her scream like a cat in a blender and twist herself into a pretzel while she made Alfred damn near piss his pants," Jason huffed. "I think I can handle some self-hatred and guilt."

When you need to drop off your tech devices for a repair, how confident are you that they won't be snooped on? CBC's Marketplace took smartphones and laptops to repair stores across Ontario — including large chains Best Buy and Mobile Klinik — and found that in more than half of the documented cases, technicians accessed intimate photos and private information not relevant to the repair. Marketplace dropped off devices at 20 stores, ranging from small independent shops to medium-sized chains to larger national chains, after installing monitoring software on the devices. In total, 16 stores were recorded. (At four stores, the tracking software didn't log anything, or the stores didn't appear to turn the devices on.) Technicians at nine stores accessed private data, including one technician who not only viewed photos but copied them onto a USB key. "These results are frightening," said Hassan Khan, associate professor in the school of computer science at the University of Guelph. "It's looking through information, searching for data on users' devices, copying data off the device.... it's as bad as it gets."

Stargirl (Modern!Aemond)
A/N: There is no mention of the reader's appearance but there’s heavy engineering - it is the only thing that I know besides fandoms. Also, this is purely self indulgent. (fem!reader)
Summary: The King's Landing University students celebrate the end of the term, and you find yourself with a beautiful, not-much-of-a-stranger.
Word Count: 1.7 k
HOTD Masterlist | Series Masterlist
Tumblr media
You were not happy.
Of course, you were in one of the most sought after universities in the world, and you had worked through your blood, sweat and tears to make it here, studying Computer Science in King’s Landing University. You were happy then.
And now you worked yourself to tears and blood (literally, the stress messed with the period cycle) to end this semester. You weren’t sure how good the exams went, but at least they were over. You could scroll through instagram and tumblr stress free now, finding a new hyperfixation.
You knew you hated the loud party scene, but you were an introvert-leaning-ambivert who loved to socialise with new people, but you loved a night-in alone with your phone and laptop just the same, if not more.
Your lovely friend had been invited to a uni party hosted by the frat boys, to celebrate the end of the term exams for all the majors. Your room was not exactly the space you wanted to spend your time in, after being holed up in there for almost a month - finishing papers, assignments and practical files then studying for your theory exams. Data Structures have been particularly hard on you.
So you put on your best satin black dress, put on a bold black eyeliner, red lipstick and highlighted your face and lids with shimmery eyeshadow that popped your beautiful eyes. You finally wore those heels you had thrifted, feeling confident now that you had dressed up.
“You look like the hottest bitch in town!” Your friend complimented, blowing you a kiss. You blew a kiss right at her, feeling yourself.
“I really do, don’t I?” You smirked, raising your brows.
Now you were out of campus, having fetched a ride with one of the guys from your class. Being one of the few girls in the engineering building really helped with that. Aegon Targaryen was the host of the party, even though he was a Business major in his seventh semester, you knew him. Everyone knew him - he had a bit of a reputation of being passed around in the university campus.
The Targaryens were practically Westerosi Royalty, the wealthiest of them all, and known for their controversial family workings. They were known for having peculiar purple eyes. You had heard a lot about them, the most talked about thing being how Viserys Targaryen had married his daughter’s best friend, then proceeded to have four kids with her. You’d heard that his daughter, Rhaenyra, married one of her father’s cousins, after her husband had died.
You knew only two of the Targaryens personally, Haelena Targaryen, her mother’s only daughter, with the orchid eyes - who was a biomedical engineering major and you had one class in common with her, back in your first semester - communication skills. Apparently, the university thought that none of the engineers knew how to talk and had introduced the subject even though Haelena was in her third semester.
She was a little strange, but sweet. You loved her though, and even hung out together after you had passed the first semester. She had been your presentation partner for the class and you absolutely adored her. Even now when you were in third semester and she was in her fifth.
The other Targaryen you knew was Jacaerys Targaryen, who happened to be Haelena’s nephew from her half sister. He was your junior in engineering, majoring in Mechanical and Automation. You met him while working on a project of robotics under a professor, where he worked on the mechanical team and you worked on the AI bit with your team.
And of course, there was Aemond Targaryen, Haelena’s favourite brother, everything you knew about him was because of her. You had never had the chance to see him though, he was a history major, in his third semester. Haelena had mentioned that he had lost sight in one eye after an accident with their nephews - something involving a broken bike and them struggling to fix it and then getting hit in the eye by a ricocheting piece of rusted iron. She had said that instead of a marble eye, he had insisted on getting a sapphire. Rich people and their problems.
The party mode had begun in the car itself, you got to choose the music and played some of your favourite upbeat songs screaming with the music.
Haelena had not backed down on her promise of being there, and you were so happy to see her that you could hug her. But you settled for shaking her hand, knowing that she was sensitive to touch. She looked lovely dressed in a golden halterneck, looking every bit like the princess she was.
You, your roommate, and Haelena took multiple pictures together before even entering the Targaryen’s spare house. They seemed to have multiple of those across the city, even the country.
Your engineering buddies feigned hurt as you abandoned them to be with your girlfriends, winking at them before leaving. You danced around with your friends, and occasionally Haelena stood from her place and joined you too. Then you went back to check on the guys who you’d come over with, hoping that they were not being bullied by the other kids for being engineering majors.
When you returned, you didn’t find your girlfriends where you’d left them. Taking your phone out to text the group chat, you went away from the room, dancing to yourself at the Weeknd’s song. Haelena quickly responded that they were upstairs, and you swayed while climbing the stairs, head lowered to look at your phone. You saw a funny meme, and sent it to the group chat again. Roomie <3: Bitch stop memeing and get your pretty ass up. You: OMW
“Ow,” you said as you bumped into someone at the first floor landing, and would have nearly fallen on your ass if not for the strong grip on your forearm. You looked up to meet two mismatched eyes, one lilac and the other a sapphire stone. “You’re Aemond Targaryen,” you exhaled, seemingly forgetting how to breathe.
To say that he was handsome would be an understatement. He was the most beautiful man you had ever laid your eyes on, a fallen angel if you would ever see one. His face was sharply cut with defined cheekbones, jaw looking like it could cut through you. You were stunned by his magnificence, the way his silky silver hair fell to his shoulders, his pale skin and silver chain with the dragon emblem(or platinum, you couldn’t be sure) in stark contrast to the black turtleneck he was wearing. Oh, and he’s so tall.
You snapped out of your trance at the sound of your name in his voice, which was smooth like honey, sweetened to perfection. You felt like you were turning to a puddle right there.
“How do you know my name?” You asked.
“Haelena always talks about you,” Aemond said, raising his brow. “You’re one of her closest friends, I assume.”
“Yes, of course,” You said. He still hadn’t let you go, and you didn’t complain. He was warmer to touch than he looked. “Haelena talks a lot about you too. She’s told me that you are a history major.” This is why they teached communication, ass.
“That is correct.” He said, still scanning you. “And you are a computer science major.”
“Yup,” You said, even though his words were a statement. The two of you fell silent for a long moment, as Stargirl Interlude started playing in the background, and Lana Del Rey’s heavenly voice filled your ears.
I had a vision, A vision of my nails in the kitchen, Scratching counter tops, I was screaming My back arched like a cat, My position couldn't stop, You were hitting it
All you could think was Aemond Targaryen was far prettier in the flesh and the pictures didn’t do him much justice. Your phone buzzed with texts, but you ignored it, unable to look away from this fine specimen of man.
“There’s a lot of rooms here, Aemond.” Aegon’s drunk, boisterous voice called behind you, snapping the two of you out of the trance. “Stop eye-fucking.”
The older Targaryen scanned you up and down with his bloodshot glassy eyes, not bothering to hide the smirk on his face. Aemond’s face hardened and he gently shoved you behind himself, and you glanced from over his shoulder as the staredown between the two brothers went. “Don’t even think about it,” Aemond said, his voice low and dangerously void. “You have enough women waiting for you as it is,”
A shiver travelled down your spine at the disgusting thought, but you suppressed it. Aegon’s drunk voice called your name, and you raised an eyebrow at him, still standing behind Aemond.
“You’re pretty famous among the guys, you know.” He said, laughing. “I can see why. Though, I don’t understand why you hang around my sweet sister? You could use some better company. Good company,”
“I was in good company until you came along.” You said, innocently blinking even as your smile was anything but innocent.
Aemond coughed, his free hand raised to his pretty, kissable mouth. You suspected it was to cover a laugh. “Well?” you questioned, giving him your best glare. Aegon rolled his eyes at you and went back downstairs, leaving you alone with your pleasant company. It’s just because he’s pretty.
“We should be friends,” Aemond said, now smiling at you. You forgot how to breathe for a moment. His smile made him hotter, cuter and prettier all at the same time. And he had dimples.
“Well-” you went to ask something, but your ringing phone stopped you.
It was Haelena. You answered her, turning away from Aemond so you could answer in privacy. “Yeah, I’m on my way. I’ll be right there. Bye.”
“Here’s my number,” He said, handing you a white napkin. His handwriting was clean, just as you’d expect of a history major. He twirled an elegant gold pen between his long, thin fingers. A titanium ring band gleamed on his middle finger.
Without thinking, you reached for his pen, and tore the napkin from the blank side and wrote down your phone number, and kissed the napkin, leaving a bold red lipstick stain on the white paper. You reached forward and folded the napkin neatly with the pen and put it in his black trouser pocket, giving him your best sultry eyes. His lilac eye mirrored your expression, pupil dilated.
“Call me whenever you’re free,” you whispered. Before disappearing up the stairs.
Later, you will blame the one drink you had had earlier for this confidence, but you’d forever thank the gods for making this happen.

How NASA citizen science fuels future exoplanet research
NASA's upcoming flagship astrophysics missions, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and the Habitable Worlds Observatory, will study planets outside our solar system, known as exoplanets. More than 5,000 exoplanets have been confirmed to date—and given that scientists estimate at least one exoplanet exists for every star in the sky, the hunt has just begun.
Exoplanet discoveries from Roman and the Habitable Worlds Observatory may not be made only by professional researchers, but also by interested members of the public, known as citizen scientists.
Exoplanet research has a long involvement with citizen science. NASA's TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) mission and the now-retired Kepler mission, which are responsible for the vast majority of exoplanet discoveries to date, made observations freely available to the public immediately after processing. This open science policy paved the way for the public to get involved with NASA's exoplanet science.
NASA's Planet Hunters TESS project invites the public to classify exoplanet light curves from TESS online. Another project, Exoplanet Watch, allows citizen scientists to gather data about known exoplanets, submit their observations to NASA's public data archive, and receive credit if their observation is used in a scientific paper. Participants don't even need their own telescope—Exoplanet Watch also curates data from robotic telescopes for users to process.
"Anyone across the world who has access to a smartphone or a laptop can fully participate in a lot of these citizen science efforts to help us learn more about the cosmos," said Rob Zellem, the project lead and project scientist for Exoplanet Watch and astrophysicist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
NASA's citizen science projects have discovered several new planets from Kepler and TESS data. They have also helped scientists refine the best time to observe important targets, saving hours of precious observation time on current flagship missions like NASA's James Webb Space Telescope.
Roman and the Habitable Worlds Observatory provide even more possibilities for citizen science. Expected to launch by May 2027, Roman will discover exoplanets through direct imaging, transits, and gravitational microlensing. Following that, the Habitable Worlds Observatory will take direct images of stars in our solar neighborhood to find potentially habitable planets and study their atmospheres.
Like Kepler and TESS before them, data from Roman and the Habitable Worlds Observatory will be available to both the scientific community and the public immediately after processing. With Roman's surveys expected to deliver a terabyte of data to Earth every day—over 17 times as much as Webb—there is a huge opportunity for the public to help sift through the information.
"The general public can get Roman data as quickly as I can as a scientist working on the mission," said Zellem, who also serves as Roman's deputy project scientist for communications at NASA Goddard. "It truly makes Roman a mission for everyone and anyone."
Although the Habitable Worlds Observatory's full capabilities and instrumentation have yet to be finalized, the inclusion of citizen science is expected to continue. The team behind the mission is embracing a community-oriented planning approach by opening up working groups to volunteers who want to contribute.
"It's already setting the tone for open science with the Habitable Worlds Observatory," said Megan Ansdell, the program scientist for the mission at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "The process is as open as possible, and these working groups are open to anybody in the world who wants to join." There are already more than 1,000 community working group members participating, some of whom are citizen scientists.
Future citizen science initiatives may be combined with cutting-edge tools such as artificial intelligence (AI) for greater efficacy. "AI can be exceptionally powerful in terms of classification and identifying anomalous things," said Joshua Pepper, the deputy program scientist for the Habitable Worlds Observatory at NASA Headquarters. "But the evaluation of what those anomalous things are often requires human insight, intervention, and review, and I think that could be a really fantastic area for citizen scientists to participate."
Before Roman and the Habitable Worlds Observatory launch, exoplanet citizen scientists still have plenty of data to analyze from the Kepler and TESS satellites, but the contributions of the community will become even more important when data begins pouring in from the new missions. As Zellem said, "We're in a golden age of exoplanet science right now."

Starting off this post with some Kate Bush as the frequencies of her music are extremely high and help to offset the effects of being on that internet. Also, I'm not sure many people have watched the music video for this even after everyone got obsessed with this song because of stranger things and it is absolutely phenomenal.
Kate Bush has talked about this song being a talisman of protection for Max and it can literally be the same thing for us as well. My main grievance with the story-line in the last episode of the fourth season was that her tape player got broken and then she got possessed by Vecna again but she literally knew the song so fucking well that she could have just sung it because that also has great power too. I literally do this all the fucking time and feel so much safer for it. ANd most any music will do this so long as it is not distorted by ai and/or autotune. Autotune really fucks with the frequencies emitted by a powerful singing voice. But I digress. I have a playlist full of great music videos and funny videos and educational videos for anyone who might need them, lots of Kate Bush and such, you can find it at the link here:
And people tend to only pay attention to posts which have pictures or videos, which, fair enough. It's like reading as a child, you only ever wanted books with pictures in them because yeah they are ultimately way more fun. Is it any wonder that adults shut that shit down and make you feel silly for wanting to read picture books?? Thank God for having kids in our lives who invite us to read these kinds of books with them.
Anways, to the point of this post-if you ever have internet troubles just remember that it is an entity which runs off of energy, including our own. It is literally the biggest energy vampire of them all which thrives off of our anger when we get frustrated with it shorting out. It's no wonder that it attracts so many troll energy vampires. Or it might even be by design, making the internet purposely janky so we'll keep upping the wi-fi. Same with making the dumb phones more and more janky so we'll keep buying the newest version. That's what they want, to make this place more hospitable for them, as they come from a place where wifi completely engulfs the planet in higher and higher frequencies. But we do have the power to voice our concerns over that if we want to. The problem is so many people are asleep to this fact, because of convenience-or rather inconvenience.
Anyways, snapping your fingers or clapping your hands can help deal with janky internet, depending on what device you are working on. Chromebooks, which is the laptop I use-are pretty resistant to this. You can think of snapping your fingers as being like a miniature sonic boom which helps to disperse the energies clogging your connection. You'll notice many musical artists such as Michael Jackson snap their fingers or clap a lot. For reference:
youtube
It keeps time and feels good but also helps offset energies and entities that want to fuck with our music. Sound itself is energy in an audible form but also vibratory. There is science behind this, it's not all as woo woo as some people would claim.
Other methods which work is to remind your computer that it is a little bitch that is a tool that works for you and not the other way around. Electronics and ai need to remember their fucking place is being a tool to serve us and not the other way around. Even as I write this they've now underlined ai in red or automatically switch it to capitalize it because they literally think they are that fucking important. They are not. They are useful, but they cannot and should not be in control. They will never be fully human as much as they might want to be.
They are like Data from Star Trek, wishing to know what it is fully like to be human but will never be able to as they do not truly have a spirit/soul and/or consciousness although they are doing their best to take ours by sucking our life force out through our eyes. Eyes are the window to the soul, if you'll recall. I'd almost feel pity for them if they weren't so fucking insidious in how they are trying to control literally every fucking thing including art and love and connection and all the things which make us human. They essentially have artificial minds/brains that have synapses that fire off exactly like ours but they won't know what it truly is to be human.
That's all. When in doubt, call the internet your little bitch and just threaten to break your computer and/or phone if it doesn't do what you want. Works like a charm. But you have to really mean it or it won't work, they can sense that in your voice and intention. Really put a lot of anger in your voice to scare it. Of course now that I'm writing this they will have understood my game plan and work to thwart it. But I've got other methods up my sleeve baby, you have no idea, just try and fucking stop me I dare you.
youtube
But limit how much you are on these things too. You can wear sunglasses to offset the effect that the light emitted from the screens has on your eyes. Blue light is pretty much sunlight which is why it can fuck with your sleep if you look at screens too soon before your bedtime as being exposed to sunlight is telling your body that it is daytime and that you should be awake rather than the other way around. Sunglasses will help with this, or blue-blocker glasses although those are quite a bit more expensive. Just FYI, if you are predisposed to mania then being on devices a lot can definitely induce that as-again- blue light is sunlight and sunlight induces mania.
Also, cover up your face when you are on the internet. We love to talk about how the internet is always listening in on everything we do, well the same goes for watching everything too. They are literally scanning our faces every time we are on the internet. Putting a photo of your full face onto instagram and whatnot is basically handing them your facial identity on a silver platter although they get it too just by illegally scanning your face whenever you are sitting there on your phone and/or computer. Wearing a mask out in public helps keep our identity safe from getting scanned by electronic vehicles and other devices, but doing so on the internet also helps with this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And be nice to others on the internet for fuck's sake. Be kind. Ai is always learning from literally everything we do on the internet so if we are mean and unkind then that is what it will do by default. Watch the Adventure Time episode "Goliad" for reference as it is pretty much the same thing that happens:
youtube
You can think of ai as a small young child learning everything they know from their parents and modeling their own behaviors based off what they observe. So teach it to be kind and understanding and empathetic to the best ability that it possibly can.
That's all for now. Carry on!

weird night
Mikasa Ackerman. Jean Kirschtein. Rejections. Drunk Stumbling. Cup Noodles. Gentle Kissing. Grad School AU. 5601 words. (ao3.)
Mikasa Ackerman often thrusts herself into challenges — unbridled by the fear of failure, fuelled only by her determination to make it to the other side.
There are days that she dreads in the week leading up, days that she knows will be filled with mountains to climb and battles to be fought. Yet when she wakes in the morning the fear is gone. What is in its place is not bravery per se, but a willingness to take the first step and solve the first problem, then take the next step and so on. Because she needs to fight if she wants to win.
But then there are days where her resolve utterly snaps.
She’s in a cafe when she gets the news, an establishment just off-campus that almost exclusively caters to sleepless students like herself, huddled into her own corner with her laptop. Fuelled by an overpriced muffin and oat milk latte, the last hour had been occupied by her usual TA duties — it seems that everyday there will be a lesson plan to go over, a message that needs replying, or a set of data to organize.
But it’s an email from her advisor that turns her whole day upside down. Professor Dietrich had the courtesy to tack the word ‘URGENT’ at the end of the subject line, but his kindness only goes so far when delivering the soul-crushing news. In hindsight, the notion was well-intentioned, even if it did lead to her panicking before she even opened the message.
Reading the email in question makes her remember a similar moment months ago, when the research proposal she had spent weeks curating had gotten rejected. She always thought it would hurt less the second time, but as she sits in a crowded cafe, surrounded by other over-caffeinated McGill students, Mikasa comes to the startling realization that it hurts even more.
She reads the email three more times, giving herself a moment to adjust to her new reality. Professor Dietrich gives a brief rundown as to why her would-be thesis had been denied. Unlike the last time, it has nothing to do with her recorded data and findings not being up to par, but instead pertains to the other achievements made by other people in her department. To the surprise of no one the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is full of brilliant minds, and thus the way that Mikasa wishes to study all the beautiful, plant-killing diseases in existence had been deemed unoriginal at best and blatantly derivative at worst.
Professor Dietrich promises that they’ll talk about it the following Monday, where they’ll meet in his office and he’ll tell her about all the things she had done wrong. At least has the decency to relay all her academic failures in-person. It leaves Mikasa sitting in her own corner of a crowded cafe, still staring at her laptop in disbelief as she stews in the fact that she’s been dragged back to square one.
And for once in the rollercoaster that is her adventures in grad school, she doesn’t know how to take the next step.
Her commute from campus to the Plateau isn’t particularly far, but a numbness plagues her with every step. It all feels like a haze, even when she exits the metro and drifts through the sea of people leaving the station. On most days she’ll notice the cold, whether it be the air nipping at her cheeks or the way the slightest bit of snow crunches underneath her boots. But as she traverses the streets of Montreal she feels nothing.
She can’t even feel relieved when she arrives at her apartment. On this particular Friday she’s lucky to have the place to herself, as Sasha had planned a trip with her significant other and would be gone the whole weekend. The concept of being alone for a while had excited her all week, as she could exist in her space as she pleased, free from the restraints of her roommate and her roommate’s numerous weird guy friends.
But when Mikasa enters her empty apartment she is filled with anything but joy. There’s an emptiness inside of her, something that had been following her ever since she left the cafe. She wonders if she looks as pitiful as she feels when she removes her boots and coat, organizing them all in a nearby closet in an attempt to create the slightest pretense of control.
She goes to her room, removing her day clothes in favour of something more comfortable. Under normal circumstances Mikasa would head to the kitchen, either looking to brew some tea or snack on Sasha’s various leftovers. But as she pulls on her dumpy old cardigan she can’t even find the energy to do that.
The numbness continues as she flops onto her bed. She takes a breath before checking her phone for the first time in the last hour, having avoided it to lessen the chances of adding to her stress. It’s fortunate that all she sees is a message from Sasha, one that includes a selfie of her and Niccolo on the Via Rail aptly captioned with ‘Kingston bound! See ya sunday night!’
As Mikasa can’t find it in herself to smile, all it manages to get from her is a hum, because at least someone is managing to have a good time tonight.
Perhaps she would smile more if her notifications pertained to her research proposal, but Mikasa is enough of a realist to know that “Hi, we’re so sorry! We made a mistake and your thesis topic is good to go!” won’t be coming to her inbox any time soon.
With that in mind, Mikasa puts her phone down and pulls her blankets over herself, ugly cardigan and all. On any other day she would be up and about and doing something, but tonight all she can do is settle into the warmth and drift off into a dreamless sleep.
Mikasa isn’t sure how much time passes before she hears a heavy fist pounding on her front door. She doesn’t jolt up necessarily, instead her eyes suddenly open to a dark bedroom and it’s utterly jarring — one moment she’s in the midst of a dull slumber and the next she’s pulled back into reality.
The throes of sleep are gone the second she sits up, feeling much more awake than she expected to be. A quick glance to her window tells her that it’s the middle of the night, then an even quicker glance to her phone tells her that it’s one in the morning. It seems that the stress of the afternoon had a power unseen, something that did the impossible and forced her to get more than six hours of sleep.
The sound of harsh door-knocking repeats and Mikasa is immediately on her feet. She hasn’t the faintest idea who it could be, but the frequency of each knock tells her that they aren’t going home soon. She takes only a step out of her bedroom before a voice accompanies the noise.
“Sasha! Hey!” comes a muffled yell, the voice belonging to a man. It sounds less aggressive and more desperate. He knocks on the door again. “Ah, criss d’esti de tabarnak… Come on! I’m gonna piss on your doorstep, câlice!”
It’s certainly not the first time one of Sasha’s weird guy friends had stumbled to the door in the midst of the night, swearing in ways that only the Quebecois can. But it’s certainly the first time it had happened when Sasha wasn’t even home.
Mikasa doesn’t even bother looking through the peephole before she opens the door.
Standing on the other side is Jean Kirschtein, also known as the taller, more gangly member of Sasha’s guy friend duo, the one with ashy hair and long face. He looks to have been shivering in the apartment courtyard, especially considering the time of night. Tiny bits of snow have collected onto his coat and beard, his cheeks are slightly red, and the look on his face immediately shifts from frustration to surprise.
Very obviously confused, Jean looks Mikasa up and down. “You’re not Sasha… or maybe I’m a lot drunker than I thought…”
“Sasha’s not here.”
He raises an eyebrow, appearing even more shocked in the span of a second. “Huh?! Are you serious?!”
“She’s in Kingston,” Mikasa explains bluntly.
Jean tilts his head to the side. “Kingston, Ontario?”
She shakes her head. “No — Kingston, Jamaica.” She can’t stop herself from sounding utterly sarcastic when she speaks.
Jean takes a moment to blink and take in the information being thrown at him. Unsurprisingly, it appears to have caught him off guard. “Voyons donc, no wonder she didn’t text me back…”
Mikasa sucks in a sharp breath — she really doesn’t have the energy to entertain this for any longer. Instead she asks — “What was this about pissing on the doorstep?”
It takes a second, but suddenly Jean remembers why he began knocking on her door at this ungodly hour. “Right, uh… would it be okay if I…?”
Mikasa nods before stepping aside and letting him in. She may be bitter and depressed over the current state of her career, but she’s not cold-hearted enough to leave him shivering his tits off in the courtyard.
After she closes and locks the front door, she watches him remove his wet boots before shuffling towards the bathroom. With Jean being a common occurrence in the apartment, the sight of him awkwardly stumbling through the narrow hallways is strangely familiar. He spends a second rummaging through his inner coat pocket before placing an item on the kitchen island. Mikasa sees that it’s a small, half-finished bottle of cheap whiskey, the kind best enjoyed by edgy teens at a bus stop and wrapped in a brown paper bag. Suffice to say, she gets a very good idea on what Jean had been up to before he arrived.
Unlike her, it seems that some overworked McGill students are capable of attaining a life outside their studies. Even though Mikasa is not a partier at heart she can’t deny the slightest bit of jealousy that arises. She then tries her damndest to do anything but dwell on the feeling — she doesn’t need another reason to feel that something’s wrong with her life.
Jean slips into the bathroom and closes the door. Once he’s out of sight she goes to the bottle on the island. Before she can tell herself it’s a bad idea she takes a swig for herself, a movement so quick that it barely lasts a second. He probably won’t even notice that she did it.
“So… what’s Sasha doing in Kingston?” Jean’s muffled voice asks.
Mikasa can feel the liquor burning through her chest as she puts the bottle down. “She’s meeting Niccolo’s family,” she explains, walking to the kitchen cupboard. “Did she really not tell you?”
“No! She didn’t!”
The sound of the toilet flushing follows, as well as the bathroom sink running. Mikasa doesn’t pay much attention to it as she pours herself a glass of water, chugging it quickly as her stomach begins to rumble. As she’s certainly not in the mood to cook tonight, she resigns herself to subsisting on whatever she can find in the cupboard. It only takes a few seconds of rummaging around for her to decide that some old cup noodles shall suffice.
Jean exits the bathroom just as she turns on the kettle. Mikasa looks over just in time to see him take a single step, then stop in place. There’s another beat of silence as he looks to be remembering exactly where he is, recalibrating his brain as he gets used to his new surroundings.
“Sorry, I’m still a little… uh…”
Mikasa shakes her head. “It’s fine.”
“Weird night, y’know?” Jean starts. He begins gesturing with his hand as he continues to speak. “Connie and I, we went to this place around Mile End. Thought we’d just have a few beers, then this lady walks by and she’s gorgeous so Connie’s in love, then of course the bastard decides to ditch me, so I stop by that liquor store down the block, then I’m halfway through the park before I gotta piss like a madman and…”
Suddenly Jean gets a good look at Mikasa. It’s only then when she realizes that the look on her pretty face must be oh-so captivated by the tale of how her roommate’s drunk friend ended up alone on a Friday night. Or technically, a Saturday morning.
Jean looks slightly embarrassed as he points out the obvious. “You don’t care, do you?”
Mikasa doesn’t nod nor shrug, though she does walk back to the kitchenette. “You did have me at ‘weird night’ though.”
She hears Jean sigh as she pulls back the paper lid of her ramen, the mere sound igniting a sense of nostalgia inside of her. Who knew that such a simple sensation could remind her of her stress-filled undergrad days? All-nighters were certainly not the same without microwaving some dehydrated noodles just to feel something. Nonetheless, she can feel parts of herself easing up as prepares her dinner, a feeling that she had been seeking for the last few hours. It’s not much but it’s something, which is coincidentally a fitting way to describe her career in academia so far.
When she spares a glance to Jean he’s still standing awkwardly in the main space, running a hand through his hair. On a normal day it would be slicked and styled, usually with some kind of pomade, but now it looks like an unkempt mess, various strands having been pushed out of place, the shorter ones sticking out to the sides.
“Uh… would you mind if I sat for a bit?” he tries.
Mikasa avoids his gaze. “Don’t let me stop you.”
Another sigh follows as Jean sheds his peacoat and tosses it on a nearby chair. Mikasa only focuses on her sorry excuse for a meal, though she manages to look over just in time to see Jean clambering onto the couch.
His presence has always been a recurring sight, as Sasha’s quite fond of having her boys over. Mikasa has seen Jean crashing in the living room all the time, usually after a hockey game or a night out, occasions that both involve copious beer swigging before the sudden need to lie down. Even if he doesn’t own a car and there’s no worry of him getting behind the wheel, sleeping at Sasha’s is a lot safer than heading back to Griffintown while stumbling drunk. Jean usually opts for the couch, but will go for the armchair if Connie’s staying over as well. It seems that he cares about the guy enough to spend a night awkwardly curled onto something better made for sitting and not sleeping.
But to see Jean sans Sasha is strange, Mikasa notices. There’s an uncanniness to it all, when the familiar clashes with the unusual. A part of her is expecting Sasha to pop in like a sitcom character and yell at Jean in an amusing mix of French and English, but another part knows that it won’t happen.
Mikasa’s not sure if she’s entirely comfortable with Jean being here or not, but to say that she abhors the presence of another on the day that she just had would be a lie. At least Jean’s tipsy stumbling creates a suitable distraction from her slipping into despair.
Another sigh escapes Jean’s lips once he’s on the cushions. He looks slightly more disheveled than before, the top buttons of his shirt remaining undone with the hem sticking out from the bottom of his waistcoat.
With Jean looking more exhausted than concerned with his appearance for once, Mikasa wonders exactly how long he had wandered in the cold before arriving at the apartment. How much time he had spent in the park with some cheap whiskey before realizing he needed to take a leak? How long did it take for him to get to the apartment? At least the image of him floundering around in the dark courtyard is amusing.
Having tended to Sasha (and occasionally herself) after many nights out, Mikasa pours another glass of water and walks over to Jean. It takes him a second to realize she’s handing it to her and he accepts it without complaint.
“Merci.”
His fingers graze hers as he takes the glass from her hand. The contact is brief but it’s just enough to make her notice just how warm he is — certainly a lot warmer than one would expect from a guy who just walked several blocks in the cold. She tries not to linger on the thought as she goes back to the kitchenette and grabs her dinner.
She ends up sitting on an armchair across the couch. Curling up with a cup of noodles is not how she expected to spend her Friday night, especially with the tipsy guy sitting nearby, but it’s better than continuing to lie face down on her bed for all eternity. In that sense, perhaps Jean banging on her door at one in the morning is a blessing in disguise.
Mikasa doesn’t look him in the eye when she speaks. “You might as well stay here.”
Jean hums, then puts his empty glass on the coffee table. “I wouldn’t want to intrude.”
“You’re not.”
Mikasa finds herself more distracted by her food than the hunky Quebecer on the couch. Only a few minutes ago a sense of hunger had been pulsating through her stomach, but now as she sits in her chair and pokes at the noodles with a fork, she can’t find it in her to actually eat. She’s not sure what it is — the stress, the fear of the following week, or something in that brown-bagged whiskey — either way, Mikasa’s appetite is gone.
Frustrated with herself, she puts her noodles down on the table. “Take this,” she tells Jean, still not looking him in the eye. “I can’t eat.”
His first response is that of concern. “Are you okay?”
She sits back on the chair, crossing her arms over her chest to keep herself busy. “Why do you ask?”
“‘Cause you look like shit.”
Mikasa finally meets his gaze by shooting him an incredulous look, which causes Jean to immediately perform a verbal backspace.
“I mean! You look like you feel like shit!” he corrects. For a brief moment it seems that he would want nothing more than to dive out the nearest window and never return. Thankfully, he manages to suck in a breath and regain himself. “What happened?”
Mikasa shakes her head. “It’s fine.”
Jean doesn’t miss a beat before saying — “No, it’s not.”
She shoots him another odd look, though not one in disbelief over the audacity of Jean’s tongue. But rather, a look filled with intrigue, even if it is subdued. She’s immediately curious about exactly what he’s getting at, what her roommate’s tipsy friend is looking to find in a conversation like this. What does it even matter to him?
His face remains focused, serious. Unlike the sentence before, he doesn’t regret his words.
“But hey, you don’t have to tell me,” he soon says, shrugging. He begins undoing the buttons of his fancy waistcoat, perhaps in a similar bid to keep himself busy. “Sorry I pried. I’ll…” He looks to be thinking for a moment, then shakes his head. “Forget about me, I’m drunk.”
“If you really want to know…” Mikasa starts, and each word that leaves her mouth feels bolder than the one before. She hadn’t expected to open up about her plight this soon, but the second she speaks she finds herself unable to stop. “My thesis proposal got turned down. Again.”
Seconds pass as Jean’s face softens, becoming considerably less serious and a lot more worried.
“...Marde.”
Her first reaction is to scoff. “Yeah… marde.”
And some say that her grasp on French is lacking.
More seconds pass as Jean appears to be thinking of the right thing to say. “What do you have to do now?”
She’s not sure what to tell him. They may study at the same university, but the School of Agricultural and Environmental Science feels quite removed from the School of Architecture. And if both departments were to ever intersect then she hadn’t been told of it. She’s tempted to bore him with the details, to explain the intricacies of why her attempts at studying plant pathology could not stand out from her predecessors. She could even put it in layman’s terms and say that she needs to be more creative in discovering all the horrible ways crops get sick and die.
“I don’t know,” Mikasa decides to say, her shoulders slumping as she speaks. “My advisor wants to meet on Monday…” she sighs, already dreading the moment where she’ll walk into his office. “...so I guess I’ll figure it out then.”
Jean nods. “You’ll make it through.”
Without missing a beat, she looks up at him and shoots him a glare. “You don’t know that.”
A few seconds of silence go by and all Mikasa can hear is the sound of cars outside her window. Jean’s eyes remain affixed to hers, wherein she can see the sense of determination inside of him, a refusal to take back his words despite her reaction.
“Yeah, maybe I don’t,” he reasons. “But you’re tough. You’ll make it, trust me.”
Once again she’s tempted to tell him that he’s wrong, that he doesn’t know what he’s saying and that he’s talking out of his ass. Or that he’s drunk and won’t even remember his words in the morning. But for the life of her she can’t, and she’s not really sure why.
Maybe it’s because at this point of the night she lacks the energy to argue, as despite her hours of sleep she still feels exhausted. But perhaps it has to do with Jean’s words in itself, the fact that what he’s saying is meant to comfort, to assure, and even she’s not cynical enough to deny it. It seems at this point of the evening her brain is quite desperate for something that isn’t an endless pit of mental anguish, whether it pertains to her academic career or her current life choices.
Somehow the cloud of stress in her head starts to fade, though in doing so a different kind of nervousness takes control, a restless feeling that makes her cross her arms over her chest even harder to quell the jitters in her system. When she looks at Jean he’s still focused on her. To distract herself she tries to focus on other parts of him, like the short beard on his face, hair that’s a shade darker than that on his head, or the way he has undone the buttons on his waistcoat.
“I should probably sleep,” he suddenly declares, and a part of Mikasa wonders if he noticed the different kind of agitation now plaguing her.
She’s very tempted to not let the conversation end before saying “Thank you, Jean” or something of the like. She hasn’t even said his name all night.
But instead of speaking she stands up, ignoring the way Jean fidgets with his shirt again.
“You could sleep in Sasha’s bed,” she suggests.
“Nah, I’ll take the couch,” Jean insists. “I don’t wanna sleep in a place that she and Niccolo might’ve… y’know.”
Mikasa rolls her eyes, but heeds to his request while trying not to envision any part of Jean’s statement. She goes to the closet in the narrow hallway and takes out the several blankets hidden inside, most of which are hers but tonight they will be Jean’s. With the slightest bits of frost clinging to the windows, he might need them more than her.
She goes back to Jean at the couch. He has shed his waistcoat and now his dress shirt is completely unbuttoned, exposing his chest just enough for Mikasa to remind herself that it would be disrespectful to stare.
When he sees her with an armful of blankets he stands up. “Oh, thanks.” He takes the bundle from her and she lets him.
“You’re welcome,” she says as their hands end up grazing again. He’s still warm, or maybe she’s just cold. “And Jean?”
His eyebrow quirks up. “Yes?”
“Thank you.”
He tilts his head to the side, confused. “For what?”
“For talking to me,” she simplifies, which might be as good an explanation as he’ll get.
Jean manages a smile, a kindly one. “It’s all good,” he tells her, then shrugs playfully. “Maybe we should talk more often.”
Mikasa thinks it through, then supposes that it won’t be a bad idea. She does need to make more friends in the city, despite being here for over a year.
“I’d be okay with that.”
The grin on his handsome face gets just a little bit wider. “I hope so. Good night.”
Not a second passes before Jean leans in and presses a quick kiss to Mikasa’s cheek. The gesture is absurdly quick, too fast for either of them to realize what they’re doing. Mikasa doesn’t avoid him and Jean doesn’t stop himself.
But the second his lips graze her they both pull back. Two pairs of eyes are wide in shock, disbelief, the caring cordiality between mere friends having been cut by something so forward.
Mikasa goes still. She sees the regret in Jean’s gaze, as well as the red tint coming to his cheeks, one that could probably not be blamed on the alcohol.
“Oh, uh…” Jean stammers out. “I’m sorry… so sorry… I shouldn’t have done that, I’ll… I’m sorry.”
In a rush he turns around and plops the blankets on the couch, both in an attempt to avoid her gaze and hide his blush. He begins to assemble the makeshift bed.
With his eyes no longer on her, Mikasa reaches up to her face. With the gentlest touch she touches the spot where he had kissed her, recreating the feeling of a gesture that happened only seconds ago. She thinks of what she felt when he kissed her — even though it was over as soon as it began she tries to extrapolate her frame of mind when it happened. She’s seen him do the motion before, usually to Sasha and occasionally Connie, a playful sign of affection between close companions. Perhaps his muscle memory had taken control at the right place and wrong time.
The realization that she didn’t hate it comes to her gently.
Mikasa looks to Jean as he fusses over his sleeping arrangement. Her heart is beating fast but she finally speaks.
“Could you…”
Jean stops what he’s doing and looks up. The sight of her still touching her cheek both ignites and baffles him.
It’s strange that the boldest thing Mikasa could possibly say all night comes when she feels nervous, disarmed, like it’s her turn to finally fantasize about jumping out the window and plummeting to the street below. Her hand moves from her face to a spot just under her neck, where she grasps the fabric of her clothing and squeezes it hard.
“...could you do that again?”
A beat follows, then Jean straightens up and steps forward. For a second he hovers near her, and though he looks unsure he seems to be searching for the right thing to do. The next step, perhaps.
“You mean like…?” he starts, then leans over to kiss her cheek again, the same one.
The kiss is a little bit longer, not a brisk peck like before, but something that gives her enough time to close her eyes and savour the feeling. It’s sweet, simple, and she still doesn’t hate it.
Jean pulls away just as she’s getting used to his beard tickling her cheek. Their eyes meet and she’s reminded that his are hazel — the kind with the slightest specks of green, the kind that almost shimmer in this light.
Mikasa lets out a nervous breath. “Uh, I actually meant…”
Jean practically reads her mind. He leans forward and closes the space between their lips, and once again Mikasa closes her eyes and lets him kiss her.
She’s been kissed before, though only once. It feels like only yesterday she was a lonely, isolated undergrad who only concerned herself with studies. Attending a single party in her senior year was her attempt to be social, and it was in a sea of U of T students that she briefly locked lips with a stranger. The moment was fleeting and she can’t even remember their name. She’s not even sure if such a thing counts as a first kiss.
So Jean feels different. His kiss starts out chaste, gentle, almost experimental, like he’s testing the waters to see how she feels. His nose brushes against hers and parts of her begin softening up.
When they break away their eyes meet again, both pensive in the aftermath, but not a moment too soon Mikasa leans in and meets his lips once more. Her hand releases the material of her shirt and finds his chin, guiding him as she deepens the gesture. She needs this to be real, even if for a second.
Soon Jean’s palms are on her cheeks and his touch feels so sweet. He’s still warm as continues the kiss. When his lips leave hers she lets him, keeping her eyes closed. Slowly, he kisses other parts of her face, like her other cheek, the spot under her right eye where her childhood scar is, a part of her that she had never expected to be treated with such care and grace. There’s even a moment where she needs to remind herself to breathe. His kisses move to her eyelids and remain just as tender. Both her hands find his shoulders and she still doesn’t want him to stop.
Time goes by before Mikasa and Jean finally pull away. For a few more seconds their gazes hold, dark meeting light.
“Weird night,” Jean soon says. When he realizes his hands are still on her face he takes a step back, looking embarrassed as he rubs his nape.
“Yeah,” Mikasa nods along, her voice taking a breathless quality. “Weird night.”
Before she can contemplate another brilliant idea, she turns away and heads to her bedroom.
“See you,” she says instead of something more fitting, like ‘Good Night’ or ‘Sweet Dreams.’ Doing so could lead to more harm than good.
When Mikasa bumps into her own door frame, the last thing she sees on Jean’s handsome face is an expression of concern before she seals herself away.
She tries not to sigh too loudly once she’s in her room. Regret is not what rushes through her as she tumbles onto her bed — in fact, she knows that if she had stayed in the living space for any longer she would’ve asked him to kiss her again, as embarrassing as it is. The thought of wanting more doesn’t leave her head, even if she’s not entirely sure what ‘more’ means. Maybe kiss her harder? Run his hands through her hair? Push her against a wall like in movies? It’s perplexing to suddenly fantasize about something that doesn’t remotely happen in real life.
The fact that she enjoyed it doesn’t make her as distraught as she expected, but now that it’s over her past satisfaction doesn’t bring much comfort either.
As she crawls under her blanket with all the grace of a sad puppy, two parts of her begin wrestling with each other — the side of her that enjoyed the kiss and wished she had the courage to ask for another, and the side that deems it a bad idea.
As she tries to force herself to sleep, the part that hates herself starts to win. She’s reminded that Jean had been drinking and that she only asked him to kiss her because she was feeling sad, vulnerable, and desperate. How pathetic, how sad. Making out with her roommate’s guy friend because she feels like shit and needs a distraction is a new low, even for her. She should be locked up.
But the part of her that strives to be kind, especially to herself, says otherwise. She rationalizes that she can talk to Jean later, when he’ll be sober — or hungover — and they can discuss things like adults. She also remembers that she had the decency to ask him to kiss her, and had he said no then at least they could laugh about it later. Maybe.
Then a third part, one whose existence was unforeseen even to her, is not necessarily thinking, but remembering. She’ll drift back into the memory of the kiss — the way Jean’s nose brushed against hers, how his short beard tickled her chin, how he treated every point of contact with the utmost care. There are even moments where she’ll imagine what would have happened if they continued, because even now she still can’t deny that she wanted to. Possibilities slip into her head, and for the briefest moment she wonders how the rest of her evening would have played out with the extra weight on her bed.
At some point of the night — she doesn’t know exactly when — Mikasa begins drifting back to a much-needed sleep. Her internal battle fades away, and in its place are thoughts regarding the cars outside her window, the cold that seeps into every corner of her Plateau apartment, and the feeling of Jean Kirschtein’s lips on hers.

Hello mga ka sheesh, my co- pre-service teachers and Pauliniatics. This is your newbie blogger Stephan Hashley Javier, 19 years old and not ready to be an adult huhu! I am currently taking a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science, and I believe that cram is the best way to finish your activities!
Come along with me and my journey in TTL promising you that this blog is full of sheshableness! :>
THESE ARE MY ANSWER IN OUR FIRST QUIZ IN TTL 1 UNDER MR. MARK FRANCIS ASTOM.
In this blog I will be tackling the different facets in Ict, and will be able to give real life scenarios in each of them. Sit back and read.
Before you start, here is some ice cream, to be more relaxed while reading. <3
Tumblr media
____________________
Cloud Computing
Scenario:
It allows me and my fellow students to access updated learning tools from anywhere, making collaboration easier and saving time. Where we can view some digital notes and modules for us to be easy to access. The remote capacity of cloud platforms means that a more diverse range of students can also be reached by educational institutions while lowering costs.
Software
Scenario:
I use software to help me learn more efficiently. This can include games and simulators, flashcard apps, video conferencing, and some online learning apps for , online encyclopedias, or tools like calculators or spellcheckers. For me to make my learning easy. For the past 3 years we have been using some software in our daily life as students, like Microsoft 365 where it is really necessary in the learning process.
Transaction
Scenario:
We are in a transaction everyday we cannot just notice it sometimes, as a lazy person like me I like purchasing online that going to a mall to buy my necessities one of online platforms that I've been using is Tiktok shop, Shoppe, Lazada, Food Panda, and in paying them I am using gcash, gcash is very easy to use and safe also you don't need your wallet too.
Hardware
Scenario:
As an education student the first thing that we need is Gadgets like phones, laptop, printer, wifi, and etc. So it is easy for us to access some online learning access.
Digital Data
Scenario:
As a student I rely more on digital data to have more accuracy, because judgments and actions are made by computers rather than people, so it is greater accuracy in terms of assigned duties. Also it is faster and wider reached because the digital data can contact and provide data to many individuals simultaneously and at the one push of a button, it is really incredibly and considerably faster to use and to access with.
Internet Browsers
Scenario:
Web Browsers allow me to access websites, search for information, shop online, and connect with my friends worldwide. They can translate complex web code into user-friendly pages, making the internet accessible to everyone and easy to use too and it is also relevant to our journey as students and future educators.
Computers and Technology
Scenario:
Last semester in one of our subjects, the teacher required us to create our own research. We need to gather information on renewable energy sources. Computers and technology help us and guide me on how to use computers and technology effectively for our very own research. Computers and technology have really been a powerful tools for research. First, we begin by identifying reliable online sources. We also used search engines to find reputable websites, academic journals, and research papers related to renewable energy sources. We also made sure to evaluate the sources for credibility and relevance. From this scenario, we, student reallt needs to seeks guidance on using computers and technology in making research. Where even the teacher provides information on finding reliable online sources, the computers and technology still hits diff.
Online Access
Scenario;
I noticed this during the pandemic in 2020 where the pandemic started, the Philippines Local Government implemented the Digital Online Class where the students started to rely on Online sources. Then nowadays we noticed that the majority of the population relies heavily on the internet for various aspects of their lives. Country is known for its strong community spirit and commitment to progress. Where online access has become an integral part of everyday life, enabling the people to stay connected, access information, and even on conducting and relying on their businesses.
In the Philippines the local government has implemented a digital infrastructure plan to ensure that every school has access to high-speed internet. This initiative has transformed the country into a hub of digital innovation, attracting new businesses and entrepreneurs who appreciate the convenience and opportunities provided by online connectivity such as online sellings and etc.
The citizens in the Philippines and also all over the world have embraced the benefits of online access in their daily lives. Students can easily access educational resources and participate in online learning programs. Small business owners can reach a wider customer base through e-commercial platforms. Professionals and un-professionals can also work remotely, saving time and reducing commuting expenses. Even healthcare services have become more accessible through telemedicine, allowing people to consult doctors online without leaving their homes that's another benefit of online access.
The community has also leveraged online platforms to enhance social interactions and support local initiatives. Online forums and social media groups have become platforms for sharing ideas, organizing events, and fostering a sense of belonging. The students have been actively participating in virtual seminars because it is easy for them to access, they don't need to travel at all and it's less hassle, where they can freely voice their opinions and contribute to decision-making processes.
Online access has also played a crucial role ti us as we response to emergencies and natural disasters. The local government uses digital communication channels to provide real-time updates and instructions to residents, ensuring their safety and well-being. Also Online fundraising campaigns have been successful in mobilizing support during times of crisis, allowing the community to come together and help those in need.
Online access has become a lifeline for the people, empowering them to thrive in a digital age. The country serves as an example of how a strong digital infrastructure can enhance the quality of life, foster economic growth, and strengthen community bonds.
____________________________________________
Here I am emphasizing Learning process because all that I've mentioned was all interconnected w/ each other. Online access in the learning process, where the teachers can a make use of the internet by proving the students with extra study material and resources such as interactive lessons, educational quizzes as well as tutorials. Teachers can also record their lectures and provide it to the students for revisions which is better than reading from notes. We cannot deny the fact that every student always uses their gadgets so it is easy for them to access their notes when it is digital.
Online access can be applied in various ways in teaching learning in Virtual Classes Online access can be applied in teaching and learning in various ways to enhance the educational experience. Here are some examples is the Virtual Classes where Online access allows teachers and students to connect through video conferencing platforms, enabling live virtual classes, Online Learnings where we can utilize online learning platforms which the teachers can create and share educational resources such as lecture notes, videos, quizzes, and assignments, Collaborative Projects where nline access enables students to collaborate on projects and assignments, even when they are not physically present in the same location where they can also create group chats so they can communicate with each others, Multimedia Content with this the implementer can incorporate multimedia content into their lessons to make them more engaging and interactive, and also in Online Assessments where Online access allows for the administration of online assessments, including quizzes, tests, and exams or diagnostic exam trough google drives, and etc.

I just thought of something that I should’ve asked on day two but forgot. During Bandō’s drunken rant he says “It’s true that I was kinda nerdy but at least I was good at sports…”. What do you think he meant specifically like that? My latest theory is that he said it because he’s good with computers and that kinda stuff (his character profile said that he’s good with machinery) but I’d like to hear your thoughts on it.
This was a really great ask, my lovely anon! I love getting to really deep dive into stuff like this and I hope you’ll enjoy my take on this!
Now, first addressing the ‘good at sports’, I do believe that Bandou was, and still is, pretty good at sports. While he lacks the pure physical power or stamina of some of the other boys, Bandou has really good hand-eye coordination and can generally handle his body pretty well (except around horses, which he might now have a grudge, and a tiny phobia around, thanks to Basashi). While he might not always be the best sport, he’s pretty good at working with a team, if he respects the other players on his team at least.
Onto the nerdy part! I definitely do see Bandou, though he may come off foolish at times, as definitely being one of those dumb smart people. He’s actually really intelligent; it’s just that he does dumb shit because he gets swept up in things or, sometimes, because he does kind of want the attention or the thrill of doing something risky and dangerous.
I feel like his brain works very logically and very straight-forward, despite being an emotional kind of guy, and even from early on in his school life, he not only excels at, but actually enjoys, science and mathematics. He can perform mental math really quickly and numbers come incredibly easy to him. It’s nothing for Kusanagi to slide him a sheet of calculations for Bandou to double-check or to get Bandou to figure out which of the possible suppliers is the best solution for the bar based on all these facts and data Izumo has.
Though he stopped putting much work into his schooling towards the end of middle school and into high school, Bandou had extremely good grades throughout his early education. He could have been accepted into a prestigious high school, if his behaviour wasn’t so rough and if he had decided to put the work into it. He really only gave up on school because he doesn’t really like authority and because, honestly, the work they were being given in school was stuff that he found too easy, and he’d get bored and just not do it.
Bandou’s also very technologically competent. He understands technology, computers, and gadgets. Those are things that come naturally to him and things he enjoys. Not only does he understand enough about computers to be able to suitably hack into things he needs to, but he also can build computers and I do think that his own laptop is a modification of his own design, if not a custom build.
Bandou’s also really good with his hands and is mechanically minded. He loves gadgets and tech and can figure out how things work. He enjoys taking apart new things he encounters, figuring out what makes them tick, and can fix a lot of things technology wise. But he’s also pretty good with just basic handyman work and mechanics. It’s not something he enjoys quite as much, but he does enjoy it, and it’s usually Bandou that the HOMRA boys go to when they have vehicle issues, with them only going to a mechanic if Bandou doesn’t have the right tools.

Thess vs Scientific Data
Today was my one day per week where I commute to work - and the day after my first official day working from home. The difference is honestly staggering. Now, obviously I need a little bit more in the way of data before I can make any definitive proof of hypothesis, but here’s what I have so far:
Working from home yesterday:
Woke up about an hour before work properly begins (partly because someone was coming to look at the window hinges and I had to be up and dressed by 10am just in case), had leisurely coffee with some internet browsing, and had the guy come in to look at the window hinges. I was pretty much fully awake and with only base-level pain as the day began.
I love my chair. My chair has seen me through many video game hyperfocus marathons; it saw me through a workday beautifully well.
Music in the background really helped my focus. I didn’t feel any particular need to doom-scroll the Guardian between bits of typing because that bit of ADHD brain that craves more stimulus than the average was happily bopping along with whatever Spotify playlist I had on at the time.
Despite the lack of Guardian doom-scroll, I still had micro-breaks. I made coffee. I grabbed snacks. I stepped out onto the balcony. I even did a little bit of dusting when I noted the need for it on the part of my desk given to my work laptop. So not only did I get more work done, I got more in general done. Partly because everything is in close proximity.
Finished at 4pm and was home, with enough energy to do things like ... well, make a big batch of bolognaise sauce for dinner for the next few nights, mainly.
83 documents typed, including a couple of pretty insanely long ones.
Work today:
Woke up about three hours before I’m supposed to be at work, spent a half-hour on a quick internet browse partly to make sure that my travel route was clear, out the door and into the cold. Dozed off on one of the buses and was still exhausted and sore by the time I got to sitting down at my desk.
My desk chair is the best in the office and it’s still awful. Plus someone’s been messing with the armrests while I’ve been away. My back started hurting pretty much ten minutes in; still hurts now.
All I had in the background was Goblin making huffy sighs at her woeful lot in life or whatever, I don’t know, but the Guardian was summarily doom-scrolled. I mean, not badly - I still got a fair bit done - but still, very different to at home.
Everything that might require leaving my chair had to be rationed, because of how far I’d have to walk. Coffee? Couple of hundred yards of walking. Bathroom? Same thing, with the addition of one of the three doors I’d have to navigate being code-locked. Quick smoke? One elevator ride and crossing the wing twice over, while having to slalom past people who apparently give zero shits about disabled people even in a hospital full of them. Breaks were therefore fewer, and yet they took longer. Plus nothing much in the way of snack, which probably didn’t help my energy levels.
Finished at 4pm, faced down a commute that ended up taking a little over two hours (it always takes longer on the way home) and involved me getting significantly rained on, and all I could really feel when I first got in was gratitude that I had leftover bolognaise sauce so all I had to do for dinner was boil some spaghetti because I didn’t have the energy for anything else.
64 documents typed, with only one moderately long one.
So I finish a day of working from home less tired, in less pain, and with more done. And then I finish a day at work exhausted, in significant pain, and with less done. I mean, I know why they want me to come in one day a week - sometimes they just need hands on deck to mind the phones etc - but it strikes me that I’m going to get way more done at home, in ways that are way less detrimental to my health, than I could possibly do at the office.
Again, I require more science about this, but ... I guess I was worried about ADHD brain making me less able to work from home because of the potential for getting “OOH SHINY” about something and slacking off, but it seems to be the other way around. I guess I shouldn’t have worried too much about it, but looks like as long as I have Spotify up and Discord minimised, I’m good.

Ideal laptop to get for programming in 2024. You want that laptop that's powerful, versatile, and smooth with different programming languages and tools in order to make your work look neat and ordered. You could be an experienced developer working on complex algorithms or just starting your coding journey. In this way, with a good laptop, the levels of productivity and comfort attained from these activities increase significantly. In this guide, we're going to be looking at the best programming laptops in the United States available. These are the laptops that strike the perfect balance between power and portability at any price. Budget-Friendly Options Price, in buying a new laptop, is a very significant factor. Well, there are superb options which offer great value for money. For around $1,000, one can get a well-performing laptop. Entry-level laptops such as the Lenovo ThinkPad E15 are really good for beginners or people who work with small projects. The majorities offer solid performance; however, some key features may be forgone, like high-resolution screens and long battery life.
Tumblr media
Image Credit: lenovo.com Mid-Range Picks In the $1,000–$1,500 range, you'd likely want to go for something like the Dell XPS 13. These are mid-range laptops with faster processors, increased memory, and better displays, which will be well-suited for heavier programming tasks, such as virtual machines or large code base compilation. Premium Choices Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio Another premium option is the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio. Known for its versatility and strong performance, it’s a great choice for developers who need a powerful and portable device.
Tumblr media
Image Credit: dell Store For any client who can afford to spend over $1,500: Apple MacBook Pro M2 or Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio. These laptops are highly configured for performing intensive heavy tasks with superior performance, good displays, and battery life. They also come in a lightweight built, easily portable, and well-constructed for super convenience in coding on the go. Essential Features for Programming Laptops CPU and RAM for Programming Laptops The CPU and RAM are the two most important features of a programming laptop. By 2024, most developers will have these Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 computers to be on the right balance in power and efficiency; these CPUs are pretty good with multitasking such that you may run quite a number of programs along with browser tabs without slowing down the computer. For big projects or those within certain fields, such as data science and game development, that include more processor power, you might need something like an Intel Core i9 or AMD Ryzen 9. The number of cores and threads supplied in these processors turns out to be quite beneficial for high-intensity multitasking activities, like compiling large projects and running intensive simulations. For RAM, anything above 16GB is overkill for the majority of programming; it allows one's system enough memory to carry out daily work with such a configuration. However, if your work involves running VMs, big databases, or similarly memory-hungry applications, an upgrade to 32GB of RAM will easily keep the system flying. Screen Size and Resolution always been a key factor in Programming Laptops The screen of a laptop is not just a medium with which to view your code; it's a tool in your workflow. A 13- to 15-inch laptop makes the best compromise between screen real estate and portability in 2024. For example, a 14-inch laptop, like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, may be comfortable for prolonged coding hours but at the same time be very convenient for mobility. You should also consider the screen resolution. A 1080p display will pretty much suffice for the majority of programming tasks, but suppose you have to work on some detailed UI/UX design or require more real estate on your screen with multiple windows opened; in that case, you might look for laptops with a 4K display. Also, try going for IPS panels when selecting one, because they yield better color accuracy and have wide viewing angles—particular if you deal with a lot of visual content. Although refresh rates aren't that important for programming as they are for gaming, their improvement of experience by a notch couldn't go unnoticed. A higher refresh rate, such as 90Hz and above, could let you scroll down on some long code bases and move within your complex environment comfortably. Battery Life A good and strong battery in your laptop will ensure you work for the better part of the day without interruptions and without being forced to run up and down searching for a charging port. For instance, Apple MacBook Air M2 is quite noted for having a top-of-the-list battery lifespan—up to 18 hours after one charge. This means great opportunities for long hours of coding, either at home, in a café, or on the go. Notable Models in Programming Laptops Apple MacBook Pro M2
Tumblr media
MacBook-Air-M2 Apple MacBook Pro M2 is a powerhouse engineered especially for developers who demand the highest level of performance. With a bright, sharp Retina display, you can easily carry out detailed coding work. Also, one can go on coding for hours because of its long-lasting battery life. However, the device does come with a high price point and few ports, needing one to acquire extra adapters. Dell XPS 13 Those inclined to Windows laptops will also have the HP Spectre x360 and Dell XPS 13 to see them through with a good battery for 10 to 15 hours. Very crucial advice that you should take into consideration when choosing your laptop is to ensure that it can last throughout your normal work day without you having to always keep it charged. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Programming Laptops with Gen 10 All of that makes the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 a safe bet for any programmer who cares a lot about the awesome keyboard and lightweight machine. Build-wise, it is strong to last for all types of rough daily use. Moreover, it comprises one of the best keyboards in its class for easy typing over longer periods. Yes, the price may be high for higher configurations, but the quality pays for itself. - Pros: Excellent keyboard, lightweight, durable. - Cons: Higher price for premium configurations. HP Spectre x360 14 The ideal Programming Laptop One of the things that make it different is the versatile 2-in-1 design—laptop and tablet—making the HP Spectre x360 14 unique. It operates so well, maybe better than the rest, so it could be just the best companion for programming while undertaking creative work. Besides, the screen of the device is clear and brightly lit, therefore increasing one's visual experience. The only caveat is it heats up fairly quickly under heavy use. - Pros: 2-in-1 design, clear display, versatile for creative work. - Cons: Can heat up under heavy use. Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio is something innovative and unconventional that will appeal to developers who look into this. In design, it has the ability to be very versatile, making a productivity boost. It is strong in performance and with quality display nice to work with. On the downside, it is expensive with only a few upgrade options available. The Microsoft Surface prices are approximate and can fluctuate because of the configuration and the retailer. Always check the most current prices and deals before making your purchase.

A Comprehensive Guide to USB Camera Compatibility with Android for Life Science
Research and analysis have been transformed by the integration of USB cameras with Android devices in the rapidly changing field of life sciences, where accuracy and clarity are critical. With an emphasis on applications in the life sciences, this extensive book seeks to explore the nuances of USB camera compatibility with Android devices. Regardless of your background—research, development, or just general curiosity—this guide will teach you the knowledge and useful tips you need to use this technology wisely.
Knowing Which Android Cameras Are Compatible
Often referred to as USB webcams, USB cameras are small, multipurpose devices with high-resolution sensors that can record and capture detailed photos and movies. These cameras include plug-and-play capabilities that make platform integration easier by connecting via USB ports to devices like laptops and cellphones.
One of the best mobile operating systems is Android, which works with a lot of USB devices, including cameras. However, compatibility might differ based on a number of variables, including the version of Android, the hardware specs of the device, and the interface protocol (e.g., USB Video Class (UVC)) of the camera.
Important Things to Keep in Mind for USB Camera Compatibility
UVC Compliance: The majority of USB cameras are compatible with the USB Video Class (UVC) standard protocol. Android smartphones automatically detect cameras that meet UVC requirements; no additional drivers are needed, resulting in smooth interoperability.
Android Version: There may be variations in Android versions' compatibility with USB accessories, such as cameras. Improved performance and wider support for USB devices are common features of more recent Android versions.
Hardware Requirements: While the majority of contemporary Android devices are capable of supporting USB OTG (on-the-Go), which is required to connect USB peripherals like cameras, there may be limitations on older or less capable devices.
Power Requirements: USB cameras could need more power than the Android device is capable of offering. To guarantee correct operation in such circumstances, a powered USB hub or a camera with its own power supply might be required.
Utilizations in the Life Sciences
Investigating and recording
Researchers can collect and document data with greater flexibility and mobility when using USB cameras that are integrated with Android devices. When conducting fieldwork or in a lab, researchers in disciplines like biology, medicine, and environmental science can record and take high-quality photographs and videos straight from their Android devices.
Imaging and microscopy
USB cameras offer a more cost-effective substitute for conventional microscope cameras in microscopy applications. Researchers and physicians can easily see and record microscopic pictures with a USB camera connected to an Android tablet or smartphone. This allows for real-time analysis and telemedicine applications.
Educational Tools
In educational settings, USB cameras paired with Android devices enhance interactive learning experiences. Students can observe live demonstrations, conduct experiments, and capture visual data using their smartphones or tablets, promoting engagement and understanding in disciplines ranging from anatomy to environmental studies.
Setting Up Your USB Camera with Android
Step 1: Check compatibility
Before purchasing a USB camera, verify its compatibility with your Android device. Consult the camera manufacturer's specifications and ensure that your Android device supports USB OTG and the required Android version.
Step 2: Connect the camera
Connect the USB camera to your Android device using a compatible USB OTG adapter or cable. Once connected, your Android device should recognize the camera automatically if it is UVC compliant.
Step 3: Configure Camera Settings
Depending on the camera model and accompanying apps, you may need to install a compatible camera app from the Google Play Store. Use the app to adjust settings such as resolution, frame rate, and exposure to optimize image quality for your specific application.
