Bots like these are scams, and they take away from the people who truly need the donations.

Unlike bots who do not have souls, people like @mariamgaza89 need your help. It is devastating to see her and her family suffer like this. If you have the money, PLEASE DONATE!

I've never allowed guest commenting on my ao3 works and haven't used guest commenting for myself since I made my account. That said, AO3 users can also change this setting for ALL works in a single pass from their works page.

Select Edit Works. Under Edit Multiple Works, select ALL and EDIT.

If "who can comment" is all you want to change, you can scroll right to the bottom because it's the last option before you save changes.

Yet another AO3 bot situation - please spread the word!

Hi, it's me again, the person who wrote that viral post about fanfiction plagiarism! Today I'm here to warn you about abuse perpetrated by bots who have stolen AO3 usernames.

There's currently an epidemic of bots going around leaving (apparently random) horrible, hateful comments on people's fics. This isn't the first time bots have invaded AO3, but the big problem with this wave is that they're using real AO3 usernames to do it.

I learned about this when another writer contacted me after receiving the following comment on their story:

Now, while that is my username, I DEFINITELY did not leave this comment (and anyone who would leave something like that on a fic should be slapped! What an awful thing to post). This fic is in a completely unrelated fandom that I have never participated in, nor has that author participated in any of my fandoms, so the probability of it being some intentional fandom drama thing to make me look bad is also low.

The writer whose fic the comment was left on enlisted the aid of some friends and tracked down other guest comments with unrelated usernames attached, which is pretty strong evidence that they are being left by bots at random.

The TL;DR: If you receive a cruel comment from a (Guest) with an actual AO3 username attached, it's most likely from a bot. Please do not lash out at or dogpile the AO3 user who owns that name, and who in all likelihood has no idea that their name has been hijacked for evil.

If finding this kind of comment on a fic, even left by a bot, is likely to upset you, I would recommend changing your comment settings so that only users who are logged in can leave comments. To do this, edit your story settings, and under "Privacy," select the radio button that says "Only registered users can comment," as shown below.

Please spread the word to other AO3 users! And if you see mean guest comments on other fics, maybe let the author know that it's probably from a bot and not a real person who thinks their writing is bad.

Hey, just wanted to give a quick PSA on a new type of bot/scam going around Tumblr. I've seen these types of comments on multiple artist's posts now. All of them are from generic / empty accounts with the usual bots behavior and they always ask artists to DM them in regards to commissions.

ASSUME MALICIOUS INTENT / REPORT / BLOCK / CARRY ON WITH YOUR DAY

Awareness post

Hiya guys! Never thought I’d have to make this post but seeing as there’s been an increase lately, I figured I’d warn people.

Sadly I do not have photo evidence of the topic I am about to cover as I wasted no time in blocking the issue

So lately whenever I’ve posted art and tagged it with #art and lots of other tags, a bot will come into my replies, compliment my art skills, and say things along the lines of “do you sell,” “do you do commissions,” etc. . These bots will then ask you to DM them as well in the reply

As someone who is genuinely trying to find people who are interested in my comms, I nearly fell for it but quickly realized that it was a scam and backed out of it, blocking the bot.

I am making this post in order to spread awareness. Please reblog this post so that people can be forewarned of strange replies “complimenting” your art and asking you to DM them if you take commissions

I know I am not the only one who has this issue. I’ve noticed profiles with the same usernames as the bots that bugged me in my replies in the reply sections of other artists posts. If you see any suspicious looking replies, please report them. They generally tend to have no profile photo if that helps

Also like! If you want to refuse to take part in The System, why is it only voting you bring up? Fucking commit if you mean it. Refuse to pay any taxes even sales taxes. Go off the grid. Formally secede from the nation. Burn your social security card. Steal a houseboat and go live in international waters. But are the people blogging about how it's just not worth voting going to do that? No. It's only voting that they want to opt out of, while also still living in this society like normal. Bc voting is a little bit hard and feels icky. So it's better to close your eyes and pretend nothing bad will happen to you. While voluntarily giving up your power to vote, fought for for years by disenfranchised people, because you just don't feel like using it this year sorry. And pretending it's somehow subversive?

WARNING: I AM GOING TO BLOCK PEOPLE

OKAY OKAY LET ME CLARIFY- I've noticed that I've gotten more suspicious followers lately, and a bot was dming me the other day so on Sunday- YES THIS SUNDAY SEP 24 2023- I am going to be going through my followers and blocking all (possible) bots.

I wanted to let you all know beforehand so that if you have an account that LOOKS like a bot (aka, having nothing on the blog/no pfp or anything) you can have time to change that.

I really don't want to block actual people by accident, so pls pls pls put something on your blog if you are not a bot... literally anything. Repost this if you want to, and then delete it Monday. (Tho really I do recommend changing something on your blog like your profile picture because I think most people are just gonna block you automatically).

Hey, I know I post a lot about the war in Gaza, just spreading around requests and pleas and stuff, but I need to do a quick PSA about something related to that. There's this user, I don't know if he's a bot or just a sicko, but he went through a whole bunch of my asks commenting this.

I reported as many of his comments as I came across it and blocked him, but the fact that he went and said this on at least 10 posts? I need someone to come and swear for me because that is messed (f'ed) up!

And did I mention that all of the ask posts he said this on were all people dealing with genocide and begging for any help they can get? Because that's what he was commenting on. So please also report and block him if you can, but do not engage with him. Be civil about this... unlike him.

(Also why would he think I would know the answer to that? I would report sex trafficking not support it.)

Beware of Scam Bots

TL;DR: @craftpatch is a scam bot. Report and ignore if she ever comes to you. In fact, even if she doesn't come to you, just report her right now.

Legitimate art commissioners are hard to come by for small artists like me. Scam bots aren't new to me, but I like to talk about my experiences when any pass by my radar long enough for me to see their modus operandi first hand. @craftpatch commented on one of my commissioned works a few days ago, asking if she could get one of her own. 🚩First red flag: She couldn't initiate private messages even though my inbox is open, so she asked me to send her one first.🚩

I did a very quick skim of her blog. A few scrolls told me she was probably okay. She had some art and even answered some asks. I messaged her, giving her the benefit of the doubt since I haven't had any customers in a while. She asked me about my commissions and pricing. 🚩Second red flag: She asked me about my prices even though I already gave her a link to that in our conversations in the comments.🚩 I talked about what I offer and gave her the link again, asking what she wanted so I could give her a price quote. 🚩Third red flag: Her next reply had nothing to do with the current conversation.🚩 She started talking about payment options without acknowledging my reply to her question.

I did a proper sweep of her blog this time, now actually taking the time to look at her tags and notes. 🚩Fourth red flag: Her tags had nothing to do with the art being displayed. Some even included the AI tag.🚩🚩Fifth red flag: Her very first post was made on the 13th of November, 2024, only a few days before she first commented on my artwork.🚩 And here's the 🚩nail in the coffin: She commented on her own post, asking if she does commissions.🤦‍♀️🚩

I said my last piece, reported, and blocked.

In conclusion, please watch out for the red flags I listed and stay safe. Mayhaps give me a helping hand and report @craftpatch as well. I wouldn't say no to anyone messaging me if you're a real person that wants a commission either.

I use ChatGPT to help set up a baseline of what I should/could use before doing research into specifics and details. I do have a few questions though... Isn't Satan different from Lucifer? Aren't they 2 separate beings? I know some people use the names interchangeably, but aren't they different?

Watch out for @/laura-cc, dear artists (except for AI "artists", btw).

Cuz they are actually scammer/bot scam, who only asking for commisions or something via payment in between same comments and massages, but in reality they only tried to scam you and me through our accounts like bank accounts.

Also, since I uploaded my doodle pic, then in my message I got, their response, after I rejected, sound so rude and annoyingly childish with BS-word asf (maybe because they're just throwing a tantrum over my good rejection and my call out) before I blocked/marked them as spam for good. It is really annoying and pissed off to deal with such unwanted scammers like @/laura-cc.

Also, do NOT interact with them, no harassing on them, death threats on them, witch hunts on them, etc. I recommend you just simply block and ignore them and move on. After all, be safe with your accounts and more importantly away from them.
