I loved Rihanna growing up -she was on every playlist in my middle to high school and University days -I respect her as a person/artist/performer, and I think she has said many powerful/empowering things, but she is one of the many billionaires who, despite appearances, is still problematic. There was a viral tiktok video that said "all billionaires are bastards," (it was a continuation of an acab trend) and they started out with some of the widely known worst of the worst; Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Alice Walton, and Tim Cook -and then the harder to 'be critical of,' -especially the one's we admired in childhood or those who have inspired up, and I understand. This post is just a reminder not to put on those rose-coloured glasses, and to realize that no billionaire gets to and remains in their position without being complicit in a vile capitalistic system that only continues to increase wealth disparities, and hyper-exploit people in the global south.

there's this annoying subsection of Internet Leftist that like, pays lip service to socialism but is also deeply entrenched in capitalist hyper-consumerism. like, you know that socialism isn't just "i can continue my same excessive and unsustainable consumption, but this time for free", right? 

like, of couse bread and roses and whatnot; any decent implementation of socialism shouldn't force everyone to live in bleak minimalist utilitarianism, and everyone deserves a bit of luxury in their lives. but certain levels of over-consumption are inherently unsustainable and inherently cannot exist without someone being exploited. "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism", but some kinds of consumption could not exist under socialism; would you be ready to give those up when the time comes?
