brush test slash rendering practice with ayem
#morrowind#almalexia#the elder scrolls#tes#tes fanart#art#id in alt#ok that's all the tags this needs ANYWAY#i started this 1. for experimenting with coloring from dark to light#2. because i wanted to draw someone kind of back turned to the camera#3. rendering practice for hair particularly#4. to go from sketch to rendering rather than doing lines to see if that doesn't smooth out my workflow a bit#5. because i've never actually used this brush past flat coloring#and out of those 1. i don't think i had enough of an idea of the palette or process to jump into dark to light painting so i did scrap that#and go with my usual “flat color with one of the mid shadow tones add shadows add light”#i do think that painting from shadows out is a thing people do digitally i just think this wasn't the drawing to test it on for me#i think i'd need to look at some other peoples processes and start with a more fleshed out idea of where to go#2 and 3 i think worked out. i'm gradually figuring hair out which i think is sick#4 i also think worked out for me which is also sick because i do get caught on lines a lot. they're fun sometimes but i think some drawings#benefit better from not having them and that it might be a bit faster#and of course everything i do is so that i can draw slightly faster and better for next artfight#as for 5. i have mixed feelings on this brush but that might be because i hate change. and also because i started this drawing on the 15th#of november and finished it yesterday. so im kind of just sick of working on and looking at it#it was a valuable learning experience and i think it came out well! i am also going to drop to my knees and rejoice when i can finally#close this file out and free medibang paint from under it so i can work on Literally Anything Else#thank you almalexia for being my test subject i should've used a reference for your armor when i did the sketch but i didn't#maybe the crown looks weird because of it maybe it doesn't. not my problem anymore i can draw other elves again#my art#iiii think i forgot a my art tag last time

#Love Points To You#aroaessidhe 2025 reads#asexual books#sapphic books#demisexual books#I thought this was pretty good overall!#It’s very much a coming of age kind of story with as much focus on her family relationship as the romance which I appreciate.#I like how their romance developed pretty casually into dating rather than being all in love all of a sudden#- and all the moments of bonding over otome games and both being acespec and both speaking Mandarin#I like how the conflicts with her stepsister/art rival/family etc were quite grounded and mostly resolved (semi) maturely#and not all overblown into drama despite Lynda’s petty explosive personality.#( and honestly; love some girls who are kinda petty and pretentious and stubborn and oblivious)#That is - until the end she kinda fucks up with everyone and pretty quickly realises she’s in the wrong; I feel like it was a bit overdone?#I understand why she felt and acted that way but it was all very fast paced and a bit of a contrast to the rest of the book#where things were handled with more nuance and maturity.#And oh my god if you found out that a potential investor wants you to change the game’s pairing to straight#why would you not think that’s a dealbreaker? like how could you have any other reaction? I know she realises she was wrong to#react that way pretty much immediately but it felt a little too much like it was there to create a conflict rather than being natural#My favourite part of the book was her developing friendship with her stepsister. made me tear up fr#(this also backtracks a little at the end with the final conflict in a way that felt a little overdone but whatever)#I put some specific art opinions and asexual opinions in my storygraph review (in link above) but a main point for each lol:#She has a sticker shop that’s mentioned a few times but no details…. is this via print or demand or is making/sending them herself#because that's a MASSIVE amount of admin that I'd expect to see depicted in some form. i have experience. lol#Generally speaking I liked the depiction of asexuality she already identifies as such and it’s not brought up all the time#but it does effect how she interacts with the world / thinks about people from time to time#- her dad says “even though you're not interested in dating this applies to you too” & she thinks: “I'm asexual not dead"#- which.. oof. unnecessarily arophobic. I know it’s probably unintentional on the author’s part and I’m used to brushing that aside#- because it’s so common in romance books but I’m gonna be honest it soured my opinion on the rest of the book a bit.#it also felt at odds with her otherwise having various anti-amatonormative thoughts and feelings about various things.#that and the slightly too much conflict in the very end i didn't love but everything else about the book i thought was rly good

Of those who went to Playful Land, Vil came out of it with a surprising aversion to all things puppets. And a constant Urge to scratch at the right side of his face, fearful of feeling wood rooted in there rather than human skin. Even months afterward, he'd still feel a certain ick when dealing with anything related to puppets and will have a blatantly obvious fear response to finding even stray sticks in his hair.
He wasn't really able to stomach having ribbons on his wrists or even wearing harnesses for commercial or modeling gigs he did that year for a bit either. He'd tossed the clothes from Playful Land in the back of the Film club's costume shed, as he didn't want them to go to waste even still. He'd even asked the other's willing to give theirs up to store them in there too. He doesn't think he would be able to use them for anything, though, as just the idea of wearing that ensemble again is Abhorrent to him. Even the mere thought of Epel try one on left him feeling nauseous.

Stayed w Rook bc if he woke up in a Panic; Rook would be THE ideal person to calm him & not judge or pry#//Ace and Jack in particular also left with a bad impression of the place; even if grudgingly admitting Some of it was fun#//Not that they'd Ever want to go through all THAT again; they both swore on it & to Never let the other Freshies get such ideas either#//Both also 100% had their fair share of scolding from actually scratching at their faces where the masks were rooted in#hc; ace (twst)#hc; jack (twst)#//Kalim thought it was fun; tho he did feel a familiar numbness over it for weeks after; the same way he usually did after being kidnapped#//Naturally; he didn't tell Jamil or anybody else that; bc to him it was another experience he had to suck up and bear like always#hc; kalim#//Floyd and Jade both were more amused by the peril they experienced; and even told Azul in great detail how they actually fretted over#never seeing him again; had Fellow been successful in turning them all into puppets and selling them off to the highest bidder#//They have no idea why Azul of all people got more stressed about that than they were#hc; jade (twst)#hc; floyd#//Ortho came out of it adding Fellow's personality & motivations to his database and learning to be more conniving out of it; so he's chill#//Though now he Also knows a great deal about experiencing 'fear' than he ever had before. It's just puzzling!#hc; ortho#//Leo; like Vil; ended up utterly unable to think back to his time at Playful Land as fun; considering Everything#//And likewise does also scratch at his face a little on occasion; tends to dig his claws into his skin more though#//As if he's actively feeling for any remnants of wood to be buried deep in there; and to ground himself that there aren't#//For him in particular; he got terrible episodes of sleep paralysis for weeks after; forced back into the feeling of his body stiffening#//He of course fronts everything is okay; but he Hates the feeling that he actually wound up more affected by it than he'd care to admit#//Esp considering Jack was in danger--that's the part that GOT to Leona the most. Even kept a careful eye on the lad more afterward too#hc; leona#//Lils brushed it off like nothing; considering his life experiences. I just looked at the price on the back of a book I’ve had for a bit over a decade and it was four. fucking. dollars. Just four with no taxes. No extra 97cents or something before taxes. Just a round number that you would add taxes to.
I googled the price of a new edition and it was almost thirteen! Not an even thirteen, it was like 12.96 or something. Close enough that it’s basically thirteen but if you’re adding multiple items together to try and get the price on a purchase with more items it would add more confusion.
#emma posts#it was also a bit difficult to find a new copy on my phone#the edition I have was selling for wildly varying prices as a vintage book now#but that’s just a kids chapter book from a fairly large publisher#I know inflation happens and stuff but holy shit#buying things at the book fair makes so much more sense now#I bought that for 4$ plus taxes at the schoolastic book fair#it was maybe 12 years ago?#I could look at the publishing date for a better idea#the series had just switched publishers and the first few were being re-released at the time#before the new publisher and the author finished the series#four dollars though#I had to check the book because I know the current price of many paperbacks and I knew that series was still in print#but what lead to this was the price tag falling off an old brush I found from like. 2009 or 2010#and the tag on this very large brush was seven dollars#which seemed cheap so I looked at current brush prices online but since the exact same brush isn’t being sold and brush prices vary more#it was a bit harder for me to get an idea of it. books though. books I know#I’ve even bought stuff from that publisher recently (they have a lot of novel and comic translations)#but it also struck me how the old price tag was an even four and an even seven dollars but all new ones had 97 or 98 cents#that ten dollars from helping out grandma wouldn’t have even gotten me one book with modern prices#but back then I could get TWO#even just seven could have gotten me a book and some fun school supplies back then#to have that experience now you would need to give your kid a 20$#I understand inflation okay? I am just taken off guard rn and having realizations#I’m going to add to this post again. when I say wildly varied vintage prices I mean WILDLY varied#one dude was trying to sell it on Amazon for 55$ but on eBay it was 4 to 5$#I bought the next three books in the series from that same print. signed. for 13$ together#I had older editions of those and wanted a full series of just the ones that were being re-released during my reading time
