I’ve been obsessed with Shadow Milk Cookie ever since his update dropped and I KNOW THIS ISNT WHAT I USUALLY POST AS I NORMALLY POST WANDERSONG this is peri-berry productions (pawductions.. cause.. cause pun.. haha I’m so funny /j) and there will be multiple fandoms here so be prepared to see MORE FANDOMS :D

BOOM new au baby, let’s go!!!

Not sure what it’s called yet, But I’m thinking “Future Of Deceit” or “Past Of Truth” work!!! If you have any other ideas please tell me I’m not good with names TwT

Basically, basic summary? Well, after the events of episode eight where Pure Vanilla asks for him to be his friend and Shadow Milk lashes out.. they do a lil fight and, using a spell he had learned back in the Faerie kingdom, PV seals Shadow Milk away, not in a silver tree.. but in the past. Specifically HIS past. He had mixed it up with a spell that was just supposed to weaken him a little to try and speak to him again.

Shortly after appearing in the past, SM wakes up and the two realize PV can communicate and see through Shadow Milk’s soul jam (sometimes his staff if he makes the switch), so there’s communication down. However, they also come to realize no one can see or hear SM. While he can interact with the world, it’s kind of a ghost situation. No one can see him.. well, except his past self.

So, the whole plot of the au is PV trying to figure out a way to bring SM back to the present, meanwhile past SM (Not sure whether he’ll be called Shining Blueberry Milk Cookie or Light Blueberry Milk Cookie, we’ll see) is just trying to live his life as normal, all the while our SM has decided to take it upon himself to torment past SM at every turn. Sometimes it’s more detrimental (as seen in the art above), others it’s just him pissing him off by either being too loud for him to focus during conferences or making jokes and puns while he’s trying to do something. Either way, past SM does NOT like who he turns out to be…it both annoys and terrifies him. After all, he’d never become a cruel, deceitful beast like him! Right?

Honestly the only good thing out of this exchange is past SM and current PV are good friends (much to current SM’s dismay) and talk when they can, PV just talking through the soul jam to him. PV does honestly feel bad for SM, seeing as he went from this polite, respectful headmaster.. to a beast-like jester. He’s using this as an opportunity to try to learn more about SM’s past and hopefully be able to help him as much as he can when he does get back, reminding SM once or twice that his offer for friendship still stands.

Aaaand that’s really it so far! Still a work in progress, some things aren’t set in stone, but y’know! This au will have angst AND silly stuff. Very coolio :]

What if I assigned them a Pokemon team like the nerd I am. And explain them. Send help?

Pure Vanilla:

In order from first to last caught: Ampharos, Umbreon, Altaria, Audino, Uxie, Reshiram.

Of course Flaaffy would have to be his first pokemon, while he was still a little field boy. They basically grew up together and have a really strong bond that allows for mega evolution.

Pure Vanilla caught Eevee when he was also really young. And I'm dragging Shadowvanilla in the room now but eevee is our "wolf and sheep" symbolism stand in. His eevee was really aggressive and Pure Vanilla originally found them trying to hunt his herd of flaaffy. Eevee didn't evolve for the longest time, even after building a better relationship with Pure Vanilla. It wasn't until Truthless Recluse's time in the Spire that eevee evolved into Umbreon (between episode 7-8). Eevee/Umbreon was instantly very affectionate with Shadow Milk. Even after leaving the Spire he still visits Shadow Milk, often with messages from Pure Vanilla.

Altaria was also a childhood pokemon Pure Vanilla caught. Swablu is a stand in for the Blue Birds in Pure Vanilla's idles. Not many people know, but Pure Vanilla is a very good singer, and it's because Altaria helped teach him!

Audino was a pokemon Pure Vanilla caught at Blueberry Yogurt Academy. He and White Lily received one in their healer classes. (White Lily's is a shiny).

Uxie just gives Pure Vanilla vibes, and is the guardian of knowledge ahem truth. Also the design similarities with the closed eyes. Thematically very aligned. On his travels Pure Vanilla encountered them and Uxie sensed their dormant soul jam. For a while Uxie remained hidden and just followed Pure Vanilla around. They eventually revealed their presence and let themselves be caught by him to accompany his travels. Formerly trained by the Sage, Uxie was released into the world after Smilk was captured by the Witches.

Reshiram appeared when Pure Vanilla fully awakened his soul jam. They were asleep in their stone form for many years. They originally belonged to the Sage of Truth before their renouncement of the truth. Was actually very happy to see their original trainer at the spire to Shadow Milk's dismay.

Shadow Milk:

In order from first to last caught: Meowstic, Gengar, Ninetales, Hoopa, Kyurem, Magearna

Meowstic was from Shadow Milk's original team as the Sage. When they were an Espurr the Sage helped them control their powers as to not hurt them. Now they assist Shadow Milk in his other realm, and stayed with Truthless Recluse while they were in the tower.

Gastly was a playful pokemon that the Sage entertained. They haunted the academy the school he used to teach at. They eventually evolved into Gengar and became capable of mega evolution. They are still fond of games and help Smilk terrorize... er entertain people who enter the Spire.

Ninetales is the last member of Smilk's original team as the Sage. And I recently learned that they are found in a place called the "Blueberry Academy terrarium" in one specific pokemon game dare I explain more??? In another game it was also found on the highest peak in the region, which I will use as a reference to the Peak of Truth. I was having a lot more trouble choosing Smilk's pokemon because they couldn't just be haha silly or uh oh powerful they had to be a kind of mix between the two. More often than not he isn't a brute force kind of person either. Ninetales I think is a good balance between all these. During their time with the Sage Ninetales was their blue variant but gradually turned more purple after Smilk's corruption.

If you've watched Hoopa's movie you'd know this is a little chaos maker who loves being a little brat. Smilk and him are on the same wavelength as powerful beings who were sealed away and love a little bit of disrupting society. Definitely spent a lot of time with Candy Apple cookie as a kid they love causing mischief together.

Kyurem appeared after Smilk was corrupted but before he was imprisoned. After absorbing Reshiram they helped the Beasts wreak havoc on the continent. They were frozen away by the witches after Smilk was sealed away in the tree.

Magearna was actually the Sage’s creation. He created the mechanical body and then imbued Magearna life with the soul jam. Magearna stopped functioning however when the soul jams were split. It’s body was left in the spire and forgotten. When Pure Vanilla entered the spire they gradually came back to life. They were able to fully function after the fall of Pure Vanilla. Truthless Recluse found them in the spire and took care of Magearna during his time there. Magearna is now fully functioning again. Wherever Smilk goes it’s not far behind. As annoyed as he acts with its presence, he still harbors some care towards his creation.

Berries of Beleriand Part One

Note: this is based on culinary berries; not all species here are considered berries in the botanical sense which refers to fruit of all sizes that are produced by plants through a specific process. I also didn't include cherries because they have pits and there are so many species, I thought I'd do a seperate post

Second Note: this is based on a canon climate of Beleriand but I’m always happy to publish ideas based on other climates or ecosystems! my personal headcanons for climate and ecology change constantly🪶

This is a similar format to my nut trees of Beleriand post so let me know if you want me to elaborate on any of these!

Bilberries, currents, elderberry, dewberry, bramble berries (also called Japanese brambles), wild strawberry and rosehips are the most common berries of Beleriand. Their fruits are eaten, used in liquors and as garnishes, have medicinal and religious purposes, and appear in art, song, and folklore.

Bilberries, also called whortleberries is a small dark blue berry that indeed resembles blueberries. It likely grew throughout Beleriand especially in its coastal regions. It's berries are eaten by the Northern Sindar and Noldor of those regions as well as by Avarin groups in northern Beleriand. The leaves of these berries are used for treating minor scrapes and inflammations.

Wild strawberries are a symbol of summer, joy, and happiness in later life in Hadorian culture. Some of this symbolism is derived from song and ritual in Laiquendi culture in Ossiriand and Estolad, learned before the Hadorians came to Hithlum. For the green elves there, crowns of strawberries and flowers are woven for summer festivals and given for begetting day ceremonies. Hadorians often grow strawberry plants near the graves of their horses, to represent a life well lived.

Both black and red currants are all foraged and eaten in Beleriand. Red currants are the most popular for eating plain due to their sweeter flavor. They are found primarily on stream banks and in open woods and other transitional environments in the central and western parts of Beleriand such as the region of Nargothrond, the edges of Brethil, and parts of Nevrast.

While elderberries are mildly poisonous to humans, they are eaten raw by elves without consequence. In Beleriand they grow in woods and hedges in the northeastern parts of the continent, in Dorthonion, the March, Thargelion and northern Ossiriand. Though the flowers of these plants (elderflowers) are used more often as garnishes (both fresh and candied), liquors, teas and medicines, the berries are eaten and made into jams. (Note: I headcanon elderflower cordial was made in Valinor but I'll make a separate post that goes into that!)

Four- He would be bananas- stick with me here- there are over a thousand types of bananas and we typically only eat one kind? That’s Four for sure. (Personally I think I think he would be an apple banana, they’re only 10-14 cm long and they have a very distinct taste!) He would grow something like avocados, technically a fruit but no one really thinks of them as a fruit.

Legend- He definitely grows apples (granny smiths and honey crisps to be specific) but I feel like cherries suit him… the taste heavily depends on the variation and what season you buy them in. They stain literally everything and it’s impossible to get out but the colors are so pretty and they’re so tasty.

Sky- cloud berries through and through!! They’re so cute and they thrive in harsh climates, especially in the mountains. They make very good jam.

Wars- He would grow oranges, but he would be would be dragon fruit. They’re very pretty and have a tough exterior (making them hard to poison) but they’re sweet on the inside.

Wild- Raspberries. I think this guy would have some wild raspberries living by his house in Hateno and he loves them so much he can’t get rid of them. Not to mention the bright color and how much cooking/baking you can do with them! I’m convinced raspberries can grow almost anywhere and that feels very Wild to me.

Wind- He would grow pineapples with his grandma and Aryll but he feels like a guava fruit to me. It makes sense to me but I don’t know how to put it into words.

Hyrule- He would grow elderberry, they are usually found in the forests and they can be used as medicinal plants! He feels like a honeydew to me though, he’s so sweet and can withstand almost anything/not letting anything get to him (*cough cough* him getting paired with Legend because he can handle his personality *cough*)

Twilight- He grows blackberries. Close enough to raspberries but are a bit more tart. He feels like a grape to me. You can also do so much with grapes like juice, wine, raisins, freeze them and eat them like candy!

Time- He would be a plum! I also don’t really have an explanation for this one… This man definitely has strawberry and blueberry fields at the ranch. He hears Legend and Wars fighting about whose fruit is better and he one ups everyone with his prize-winning strawberries and blueberries. Malon is VERY defensive of her title of the Pie Queen at her local fair that she won with her home grown fruit and amazing baking.

I feel berry passionately about this.

I rewatched the trailer over n over and here's some more stuff I found! I'm really gonna go all over the trailer for crumbs about the story so buckle up

Crunchy Chip gets hit with the Tom Holland and is understandably terrified but here's something interesting:

Caramel arrow cookie and some other warriors disintegrate into flour too. But they aren't terrified like Crunchy Chip. They smile as they float up and crumble into specks. We don't even hear their cries of help. So one of these visions we're seeing is false.

Yay these guys! I didnt notice it at first but they're meant to be dumplings. The box is what threw it away for me lol. Also the heavenly gate. Maybe it mirrors the Dark Cacao Wall?

ALSO the story is going to take place at the Flour Peak of Transcedence I assume.

The mountains don't match up but there is a very distinct cloud motif.

And if it doesn't take place there specifically, at least we know something big is gonna happen near that twilight sparkle thing.

Also, mystic flour before corruption?? The veil is not here so it's possible this was their land before corruption but the edges on this soul jam is angular and the one we saw in the Ancient Force Awakens trailer is rounder so I'm not too sure. But the veil and those spider like ribbons are gone so that's interesting..

Also at the beginning of the trailer we see this altar...made of Cookie bodies melting at the base. Hotpot mystic flour? /j

It is said that Mystic Flour has been in a cocoon for eons. So when they finally turn into a spider..

Look closely at the markings on this spider. Mystic flour can turn into a spider? Which explains the cocoon so that's cool (the giant enemy spider jokes are gonna be everywhere oh god)

Statues that look like mystic flour before the corruption (no veil, the bun, that pose) But it might just be a stretch.

The splash screen. Now this is interesting. Caramel Arrow, Crunchy Chip, and even Dark Choco aren't visible here. Either they get taken out back (iykwim) or the true battle is between Dark Cacao and Mystic flour. Also the text is made out of spider silk! (?) It's a little hard to read though.

Wow that's a lot. I guess I'll keep rewatching? Oh and Dark Choco Cookie.

We only saw a glimpse of him at the end, but hopefully he'll have some importance in the story. (That or he dies I'm saying it right now something horrible is going to happen to a character we like this update)

No mention of the magic candy either for carrow or doco so womp womp :( maybe that'll change though. The stormbringer update didn't tell us about a magic candy for blueberry pie or twizzly gummy until part two so there's still hope!

OHOHOHOHOHO,,,, You won't believe how much I wanted to do this, and now that I have time on my hands...

The Four Sea Beasts... as FLOWERS!

It was probably the hardest thing to choose for each Sea Beast, but it was definitely worth doing the research and studying! Explanation for each under the cut!

Saint Whiskey Cookie's flowers would be more associated with funeral flowers, or in specifics the Forget-Me-Nots and white tulips. As he is the Beast of Heartbreak and once the Light of Sanctuary, he had to experience death of the Virtue of Knowledge (Blueberry/Shadow Milk Cookie). Forget-Me-Nots represent true love and remembrance, and it fits considering he was once in loved with the Virtue of Knowledge, and made sure he wasn't forgotten, even after his demise. White tulips specifically represent forgiveness, which he usually preached in the Aged Rum Church but also begs to the heavens for. I also imagined he also has those flowers with eyes, kind of like in the Magic Academy!

His flower holder of choice? A woven basket, a more classic and traditional method as a brief reminder of when times were simple. It also comes with a letter!

Icy Tundra Cookie's flowers are Purple Irises and Bleeding Hearts! She may still be Captain Ice, but she now holds a more queenly status, hence the flowers of choice. The Purple Irises resemble that of royalty, often given to those of high-status which she already has. They also represent wisdom, as she is still the Light of Guidance despite now being a Sea Beast. The Bleeding Hearts was a flower I was surprised to learn about, and I decided to go with it! These flowers are mostly a rare sighting, but in most cultures are a symbol of unrequited love, but also represent loneliness and sadness. I imagine that she could had realized how alone she had become once she gained ruler status, and thus the ice in her heart grew stronger. Her role in Mystic Flower Cookie's demise didn't help out either.

This gal's flower holder of choice is a long vase! Something that can make her deemed of a high status, but a firm reminder that despite this, she is still in control and will hold on to what she has left in her.

Salty Shark Cookie's flowers are the more vibrant ones, so the Black-eyed Susan and Hibiscus flowers! Hibiscus flowers are mostly tropical flowers, and Salty Shark Cookie spent his entire life in the sea and embracing the ocean for what it's worth. Hibiscus flowers represent passion, as even though he is a Beast of Anarchy, he never stopped caring for the Cookies who still remain in his life, even those who had distanced from him or even cut ties due to him covering for himself when something bad happens. The Black-eyed Susan is a very unique flower, representing justice, which is something he always does when something goes awry, especially with his rivals. No need for corrupt rulers if he's the one bringing their actions to light. Knowing what happened, he should probably take his own advice...

His flower holder of choice is a bouquet! It's simple and a little bit basic, but it's his choice.

Emperor Abalone Cookie's flowers are more associated with his authoritarian mindset, so his are Cinquefoils and Crown Imperials. His kingdom expects him to see him as someone who is powerful, and the one who holds the entirety of the world together. While both flowers represent power, they both contrast in other meanings. The Crown Imperials represent pride, as he remains proud of his status as the Beast of Greed, and is prideful of how greatly improved he grew his kingdom and made a lot of allies prior to the Herald of Change surrendering his Soul Jam to him. The Cinquefoils represent honor and strength, as he has shown to be honored in the eyes of even certain places... According to research, however, they are deemed as an invasive species, heavily reflected when he turned the once spicy, firey land into a mariner's utopia, and he managed to expand the kingdom through the conquest of Tearcrown.

Emperor Abalone's flower holder of choice is quite simple! The flowers wilt easily, but by putting them into frames and turning them into permanent jewelry, they are long-lasting... Just like him.

(before ya start reading I'd like to clear somethings up, I decided to do things a tad bit differently and I wrote this from the perspective of one of the previous Spice Soldiers. Also in this AU I do have Capsaicin as Burning Spices son Also while I may write the Beasts in a random order with the exception of Shadow Milk there is an order in which they fell so Elder Faeries soul jam count will not be in a specific order.)

-The Tiger General-

The day the Herald of Change vanished from the Spice Dunes only one cookie has known the true end of the Herald of Change's story. That cookie was none other than his right hand Crimson Tiger Cookie, a far back ancestor of Nutmeg Tiger Cookie.

It was the 7th sun of the Harvest Season, the grand Spice Trade was in full bloom with cookies from all around Beast Yeasts kingdoms coming to buy the Spice Dunes wares.

It wasn't unusual for a member of the Faerie Kingdom to come to the Spice Dunes during this time of the year. What was unusual was seeing the Royal Carriage arrive.

Burning Spice greeted the Fairy King with the most formality he could muster, and overall they treated him with such respect. There was zero reason to start a conflict.

Until it was just Crimson Tiger, Burning Spice, and the Faerie King in the Temple alone. Crimson Tiger had gone on the Heralds order to get him and the Fairy King a glass of Lassi. It was while she was in the kitchen she heard a commotion, the sounds of a battle. Crimson Tiger Cookie was quick to arm herself and head back to the Herald and Fairy King.

The Fairy King was putting up more of a fight then the Herald anticipated, it was soon revealed why when the glow of 3 soul jams lit up like a Christmas tree as their power radiated through the Fairy King.

The Soul Jams of Volition, Happiness, and Solidarity were within the hands of the king. And it seemed like he wanted to add the Soul Jam of Change to his collection.

"ARRGH- YOU CONNIVING LITTLE P E S T! TRYING TO STEAL M Y SOUL JAM? YOU HAVE SOME NERVE-"

The Heralds 6 arms were currently holding back the Faerie Kings greatsword.

"CRIMSON TIGER GET MY AXE N O W!" Crimson Tiger was quick to listen, grabbing the great battle-axe and tossing it to the Herald, who freed one arm to grab it before slamming it down onto the Faerie King.

The battle went on for ages, sword clanging loudly against the great battleaxe. Until finally the Faerie King got an opening, and stabbed the Herald straight through his chest. The herald coughed up golden jam that ran down his face, he fell to the marble floor, his jam puddling around him.

"HERALD- *Looked towards Elderberry Faerie* YOU DARE INJURE OUR-"

"No...Crimson Tiger Cookie stop."

"Wh- HERALD YOU'RE IN GRAVE DANGER THIS IS MY J O B-"

"I am- *cough cough* assigning you a new task-"

The Faerie King suddenly flew up towards a bright white light, which sent strands of light towards Burning Spice

"My son....please....take my son and run as far as you can...go to Blueberry Milk....tell him to prepare for the Faerie Kings arrival please....I can't live with myself knowing I failed to protect him..."

The strands switched to chains and stabbed into Burning Spice, dragging him up into the bright light

"HERALD- HERALD WAIT I CAN'T LEAVE YOU- LET GO OF HIM-" the Herald pushed away Crimson Tiger "I'll be okay...please... just do what I asked."

".....yes Herald." Crimson Tiger ran to find the little warriors room, gently scooping him up as he was still slumbering, completely unaware of what happened. And then Crimson Tiger ran through the dunes, ran through the forest, until she reached the grand Kingdom of Knowledge as ordered in the Heralds final moments.

Just in general with your characterisation of Silent Salt Cookie, do you have theories on what's their cultural inspiration since all Ancients and Beasts seem to have one?

My theory is on Teutonic Order as they played crucial role in Christianization of Europe and Silent Salt seems to have lots of association with St Pastry Order. Not to mention, White Lily Cookie's relations with Faeries and Moon leads me to believe she takes inspiration from many pagan religions, specifically Indo-European ones and Christianization had a hand in killing those groups (or maybe that's just my wishful thinking of wanting to see Eastern European mythos that aren't Greek Mythology or Vampires.)

Anyway, Silent Salt Cookie is such a fascinating character and I love hearing other's theories about them.

I agree with the theory above that Silent Salt is likely going to have ties or be associated with the Pastry Order and that sort of reflection of the Christianization of Europe.

I mean so far, we've gotten hints of Beasts being tied to stuff in games (Like the magic academy being Blueberry Yogurt), and while not confirmed I think it would fit especially with the element of the soul Jam were working with.

Silent Salt was Solidarity (or Unity in beta) and slips into Freedom and Silence. Depending on the view they take (which will likely be villainous sense the church of the creme republic was also evil), they could definitely spin it about some branches of the church makes you sacrifice personal freedom for a sense of unity/solidarity. All while the higher ups silence anyone who tries to speak out about it.

My personal theory/hope, is that maybe Silent Salt episodes speak about corruption, how wanting to do the right thing could lead someone down a very dark and dangerous path, and the more someone is looked up to like a king or priest, the easier it could be for them to abuse that power. I think that corruption theme could tie in very nice to the Dark Enchantress and White Lily that's also happening, how the evil of earthbread was born because White Lily was so stubborn about making the world a better place.

Do you have any Shadow Milk Cookie headcanons?

Oh boy you are not ready to me to open this can of worms, I will open it regardless.

Starting with some of the ones I've talked about on here before:

He's physically disabled (there's a whole slew of headcanons I have that branch off from this but I'll spare you) I have a post explaining (very poorly) why I have this headcanon that got almost 200 notes so it shouldn't be too difficult to find if you want to look for it. I specifically headcanon that he's got hEDS (or whatever the cookie equivalent is) because me too bud.

In a similar vein, my Shadow Milk has a lazy eye! (he's practically blind in said eye) When he was the Fount he wore a Monocle but it broke when he was sealed and for the entire time he was locked in the silver tree his eyesight in that eye just worsened and boom! lazy eye. If he were to wear an eye patch and corrective lenses again it would probably improve but he thinks glasses look stupid. Also his depth perception isn't too affected because he can see through the eyes in his hair but if he were to, for example, lose his soul jam he'd be fucked.

He's also got scars on his torso from being stabbed by a fork during the binding ritual.

If he were to be in the circus he would mostly do ground work but if he had to pick an aerial apparatus it would be trapeze.

He's got ARFID

He's got religious trauma for days from his time as the Fount of Knowledge.

He accidentally founded the St. Pastry Order.

He helped found the Blueberry Yogurt Academy but he wasn't actually involved in its day to day operations for very long. The pressure of teaching/being principal on top of his other duties as the Fount were too much to handle and he had to prioritize his other duties. He regretted having to make that decision and still took the time to write the textbooks for the classes.

He actually deeply misses the academy and is incredibly upset about what happened to it. It's just another reason he hates White Lilly.

Essentially everything he wrote he wrote under various pen names, blueberry yogurt was his favorite of his pen names. (Not that anyone would have known it was him if he wrote them under the name blueberry milk)

He has a desperate need for control over any situation he's in. He will lash out if he feels that control slipping. This stems from an almost constant feeling of not being in control as the Fount of Knowledge and was exacerbated by being locked in the silver tree.

He's got severe issues with depersonalization, his ability to shape shift makes this worse actually.

He will do anything in his power to avoid feeling bored because it means he would have to sit with his own thoughts.

His relationship with the other beasts is purely professional (i.e. they're not close friends, just coworkers), but he was the closest with Eternal Sugar before they fell.

The one thing he cannot shape shift into is what he looked like as the Fount, he could make it look like he doesn't have a lazy eye if he wants to he just doesn't bother, this is one thing he retains across all of his disguises.

He's incredibly embarrassed about having to rely on mobility aids because he considers it a sign of weakness.

He's absolutely horrified about the concept of someone genuinely caring about him, that's the main reason he keeps Candy Apple and Black Sapphire at arm's length. He's also in denial about the fact that he genuinely cares about them. (For the record this doesn't excuse the way he treats them)

He loves art (drawing, sewing, acting, etc) and he uses it as a way to process his emotions (alternatively he'll just break things)

The marionette thing is just him self projecting his fear of losing control into other people.

He and White Lilly would probably be besties under better circumstances.

If he had to choose between a cat and a dog he would choose cat but he's a reptile person.

Overcompensating for his self hatred by pretending to be self absorbed

Will do practically anything for the sake of the bit

A big reason for his dislike of White Lilly is the fact that he sees so much of what he hates about himself in her and vice versa.

Really good at figuring out what pushes people's buttons and then does everything in his power to piss them off as fast as possible.

Has decided he is fundamentally broken so he just leans into it. Doesn't genuinely believe he could ever change so it's a self fulfilling prophecy.

There's so many songs about substance abuse on my playlist for him that I've just kinda accepted he has, like, metaphorical substance abuse issues????? Idk man

Riddle paces back and forth in front of the gazebo as he mentally goes over the list of everything he'd done to prepare for afternoon tea with you:

Fresh darjeeling tea? Check.

Toast with your choice of jam or butter? Check.

A wide variety of cookies, scones and miniature sandwiches laid out on a tea tower? Check.

Ace and Deuce being ordered to trim the bushes on the FAR opposite end of the hedge maze? Double check.

Riddle stops pacing to look over the table underneath the gazebo one last time, ensuring that he's content with the placement of everything, which he is, although he can't help but feel a little sad at the absence of a tart of any description.

When Riddle had first made the suggestion of afternoon tea, you specifically requested he not have any tarts prepared, much to his surprise and disappointment.

But still, what is a relationship without making compromises?

And so, Riddle decided to respect your wishes and leave tarts out of the preparations.

Riddle is then pulled from his thoughts by the sound of footsteps behind him and he turns around to see his lovely boyfriend approaching with a soft expression.

"Y/N! Wonderful to see that you made it!" Riddle says happily as he walks toward you before noticing a small box you're carrying in your hand, "May I ask what you have there?"

You give a small giggle before responding, "It’s a surprise! Let's sit down first." You say while motioning to the table.

Riddle nods as he and you walk to the table while talking happily to each other, so happily, in fact, that neither of you notice the sound of rustling leaves slowly getting closer.

After you both sit down, you proudly place the box in front of Riddle and begin to speak, somehow still not noticing the leaf rustling getting ever closer, "It’s been a while since we've been able to be alone like this, so I decided to make something special for you! I spent a whole week looking up and trying different recipes to make sure these were perfect just for–"

Your sentence is cut off by Ace and Deuce crashing through the hedge parallel to your table while throwing punch after punch at each other.

Riddle's curiosity at your creations is immediately replaced by fury at his underclassmen as he stands up to reprimand them before the butter knife suddenly disappears from the table and finds itself forcefully embedded in a wooden plank between the two freshmen's faces, causing all parties to freeze in shock.

Riddle watches as you wordlessly stand up with a blank expression, walk over to where the knife is and yank it out of the wood before pointing it at the freshmen and then using it to threaten them by making a cutting motion over your neck as both of their faces go pale.

Ace and Deuce run off as you sigh and sit back down at the table while Riddle does the same, albeit very stunned and mildly impressed by how you handled the troublemakers.

"Anyways, as I was saying," You begin calmly, leaving the large hole in the hedges to be dealt with later, "I put a whole week into making sure I could make these perfectly just for you!"

Riddle's eyes widen as you finally open the box, revealing six miniature tarts of various colors looking back at him. He sees a lemon tart and a blueberry tart among others, but most importantly, he sees a bright red strawberry tart at the center that feels like it's almost calling out to him.

Riddle stares dumbfoundedly as you take the miniature tarts out of the box and lay them out for him in all their glory, "So this is why you asked for no tarts…?" He says in awe.

You scratch your cheek sheepishly while responding, "Heh, yeah. It made me sad to see you so disappointed, but I wanted it to be a surprise." You say while reaching over to take Riddle’s hand in yours, "And…what kind of boyfriend would I be if I couldn't do something special for you?"

Riddle feels his cheeks instantly turn as red as the strawberry tart in front of him as he intertwines his fingers with yours and maintains loving eye contact with you for several minutes before the cheesiness of the situation settles in, bringing an awkward atmosphere with it.

"So…do you, uh, wanna try the tarts now?" You say as you let go of Riddle’s hand to bring yours to the back of your head awkwardly.

Riddle can't help but miss the warmth of your hand in his, but he still smiles softly at your question, "I'd like that very much." He responds while placing the strawberry tart on his plate and grabbing his knife and fork.
