1 || Book Review: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
bk. “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak; published 2005.
wg. ¡ This review does contain incredible spoilers for “The Book Thief” book. Be aware of this fact since I will not warn when they are coming up. !
rw. The Book Thief is often brought up in middle school curriculum during the WW2 unit, specifically the Holocaust. It is often referenced as one of the quintessential Holocaust books, among such as “Night” by Elie Wiesel and “If This Is a Man” by Primo Levi. I was required to read this book for school. I dreaded the thick pages accumulated with the seemingly overdrawn, wordy descriptions and prose. But as I realized the deadline was coming uncomfortably close I allotted time to dive into the book on my own time. As it progressed through the out of context first chapters and I was introduced to the charming and gritty main characters of Liesel (a young girl who suffers from nightmares as a result of her difficult early life) and Rudy (a rambunctious young boy who finds joy in every facet of life) I found myself eager to continue reading the book. The family and community dynamics were contemporary but still incredibly interesting as it broadcast an unfamiliar culture and time period. As the nazis began their rise to power it was incredibly unique seeing the situation from Liesel’s and other character’s perspectives. The young girl was originally indifferent, accepting the nazis and not having a lot of knowledge regarding their beliefs or actions. Soon she forms her own negative opinion of them, being silenced by her foster father for her own safety. Eventually her foster parents invite a jewish man, Max into their basement. His father served with Liesel’s in the first world war, making Hans house his son in his great time of need. Liesel and Max grow close over his time in their cellar, bonding over drawing and weather reports. Unfortunately, a time comes when Max must leave the safety of the home, . He leaves and is caught, being sent to Dachau and suffering indescribable horrors at the camp. Many things happen after Max leaves, Rudy and Liesel grow closer and the girl steals books from the mayor’s home. While these events are important to her character and the development of her character I don’t want to give everything away.. (Except for the ending.) At the very last portion of the book Molching is bombed. Liesel is writing a story in her journal, enjoying the peace and quiet of Himmel Street in the late night. Her entire family and many she cares about are killed in the attack. One of the only people she knew personally who survived was Rudy’s father, Alex Steiner. She is cared for by the mayor’s family following the bombing and reunites with Max in an incredibly emotional final pages.
rg. 10/10 -- I think I completely oversimplified the insane magnificence of this book. The phrasing and vocabulary used in this book, the way Markus Zusak illustrates an incredible community and characters while still writing a respectful historical fiction novel about such a turbulent and horrific time in the world’s history is impressive to say the least. This book changed the way I thought about the Holocaust, making me what to expand on my surface-level understanding of the events of WW2.
tldr. Read this book, you will never regret it. Ever.

. . . . This story which will always be alive in me. . . . . BOOK:- The Book Thief AUTHOR:- @markuszusak GENRE:- Thriller FORMAT:- Paperback PAGE:- 584 RATINGS:- 5 Stars Publisher:- @penguinrandomhouse . . The tale of the book thief is being narrated by the death itself and when the death tells something we have to listen.
The death is haunted by humans but don’t we human is afraid of death and pray to gód to give us long life so that we can’t meet the death but death comes somehow and at some points.
When death tells any story we had to hear because it’s death if you will not listen he will come to hug you soon.
I am a hard man from the heart but this book blew it and melted it too feel the real pain of the book thief and the boy who fought for large potatoes.
The book thief stole her first book when she didn’t know how to even read that but she has stolen it anyway.
Every book She stole have a story to tell and the book she chooses has its own tale to tell.
The book depicts the era of Adolf Hitler and his extreme crimes.
The tale which will not let you leave the book once you start reading it’s like addiction and I struggled to leave it to read next day and whenever I picked I read more and more and today I finished it and when I was in last 100 pages I was not able to leave that book for even a second I stopped at last where death say I am haunted by humans.
Its hangover will be with me forever I loved this book and will proudly recommend to the readers who haven’t read the tale which is narrated by death itself.
The characters you will meet with when you read this one.
Book thief The boy who always wanted a kiss from book theif and is the best friend of book thief too. An accordion player The author of the shaker Apple thieves Potatoes thief A mother who is rude from outside and from inside a melted ice cream. A lucky father who left death awestruck two times.

'I am haunted by humans.' This book was such an emotional rollercoaster, expertly crafted and executed. A story narrated by a death more human than most humans. #thebookthief #bookstagram #book #books #bookphotography #reading #markuszusak

I love how people post sky pictures and how different the sky looks at the same time somewhere else. I love that we get to see a multitude of shades and intonations of the sky. Markus Zusak was right when he said, "What color will everything be at that moment when I come for you? What will the sky be saying?"
