Celebrating Black History Month
Greetings,
Just want to add my first Sims 4 CC creation to tumblr. Forgot to do this earlier.
Enjoy Black History Month and beyond with Black Theatre Posters celebrating the August Wilson Century Cycle chronicling 100 years of the African-American experience beginning in 1900 through 2000. There are ten plays representing each decade.
August Wilson (1945 - 2005) remains one of the most prolific African-American playwrights and artists whose plays have appeared on Broadway, garnering numerous awards, starring such noted actors as Phylicia Rashad, Denzel Washington, Mary Alice, Keith David, Tonya Pinkins, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Leslie Uggams, Samuel L. Jackson, Courtney B. Vance, Angela Basset, Harry Lennix, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Whoopi Goldberg, Charles "Roc" Dutton, S. Epatha Merkerson, Lou Myers, Lawrence Fishburn and Viola Davis, just to name a few.
August Wilson is the first and only African-American artists to have a Broadway theatre re-named in his honor. The Virginia theatre was renamed the August Wilson Theatre shortly after his passing.
What line or scene do you remember from your favorite August Wilson play? Feel free to share them here. (Having seen almost all of the B'way runs, I must say that Phylicia Rashad's performance as Aunt Ester in Gem of the Ocean sticks out strongest for me.)
Life has been wild for me since my initial upload January 2023. Looking forward to regular uploads this year and in the future. Enjoy. Also note, my content will ALWAYS BE FREE!!
Just Keep Simmin', Simmin', Simmin'!!!

Rolling Stone Magazine Top 200 Singers - The Omissions List
Once in awhile, I’ll do a music themed blog post and boy do I have a post for you. Rolling Stone Magazine opens 2023 with a list that no one asked for. Their 200 Singers list is an all time low for the once flourishing magazine. When you include auto-tuned singers like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Lana Del Ray and dull as dishwater singers (again, my opinion) like Morrissey, Courtney Love, Michael Stipe, Bono, Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder, you lose credibility in my book. Here are the singers of different backgrounds, genres, and vocalizations (in alphabetical order) that Rolling Stone failed to include on their inept list:
Jon Anderson
Julie Andrews
Paul Anka
Tina Arena
Charles Aznavour
Michael Ball
Jimmy Barnes
The Bee Gees (Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb)
Pat Benatar
Tony Bennett

The Stones and Brian Jones Documentary Film Review
Perfectly poised for theatrical release on the heels of The Rolling Stones’ first album of new music in two decades, Nick Broomfield’s “The Stones and Brian Jones” is a revealing documentary reminding us that the world’s greatest rock ‘n roll band isn’t just Mick and Keith. Brian Jones, who tragically joined the so-called 27 Club in 1969, actually started The Stones and was the driving force behind it until his band brothers a) decided to take the music in a harder, more pop-based direction and away from the blues, and b) got tired of Brian’s drugging and drinking and kicked him out of the group.
Once he was out of the Stones, Brian was adrift and lost – as Keith Richards admitted, “We took away the only thing that mattered to Brian, and was being in a band” – and within weeks, he drowned in his pool following an epic drinking binge. Broomfield barely touches on the tragedy, focusing instead on Brian’s contributions to The Rolling Stones and the birth of rock music in the early 1960s. We are treated to the sights and sounds of his collaborations with Jimi Hendrix, and The Beatles, to name a couple; he was a highly respected and revered guitarist and multi-instrumentalist in his time.
“The Stones and Brian Jones” also goes into Brian’s personal life—from his disapproving parents, friends, fellow Stones (Bill Wyman is in the film and serves as an advisor), to the many women who loved him (and gave birth to his babies). There are lots of voice-overs and some on-camera quotes from interviews with Brian’s paramours, all of whom remember him fondly. Although he died too young to ever really know his five children, it would have been interesting to get at least one of them on camera to talk about their dad’s legacy. We do get glimpses into hearts and minds with the aid of personal letters written by, and to, Brian.
Nick Broomfield is one of Britain’s great premier filmmakers and biographers (“Biggie & Tupac,” “Kurt & Courtney,” “Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love”) and he, thanks in part to Bill Wyman’s preservation of music and memorabilia, gives us a birdseye view of swinging London and the birth of the British Invasion, and Brian’s part in it. Broomfield even had the opportunity to meet Jones when he was just 14, and a fan.
While “The Stones and Brian Jones” won’t teach uber fans anything new, it is an apt and appreciated look at the musician’s lauded yet troubled, too-short life.
