Bridgerton Audiobooks Included with Spotify Premium

I just thought I would put out a note to let anyone who was unaware know that all of the audiobooks in the Bridge-verse written by Julia Quinn are now free to download/stream for Spotify Premium subscribers.

Obviously this isn't paid promotion, but if you had wanted to pick them up, this is a great time if you're a spotify subscriber. I was surprised they were included due to the popularity of the show, but they're all there. I'm currently listening to To Sir Phillip, With Love.

To be perfectly honest, I have not been told that my voice would be perfect for this ASMR thing. I know of podcasts and audiobooks definitely. But I've never heard much about ASMR before. Perhaps I should go look it up on Google and see for myself.

Rumwy (He/(She if you're a lesbian))is the world's worst butch barbarian . Fumbling her way through his adventure while rolling 11 on every single combat encounter, using a harpoon and a water elemental until he found a cursed staff and a vampiric glove that i've started drawing as a muzzle for fun.

Kathon is the most perfectly generated emo i could've gotten. Demon touched warlock with a freaky mask . Which i proceeded to turn into a weird puppet . Loved designing Kathon.

some kai headcanon...

This is the light, fun version. I have some darker stuff, too, maybe I’ll share those at some point.

Kai is generous with compliments. The other ninja quite literally don’t know how to respond to them all.

Kai likes boba tea. Lloyd got him hooked on it.

When he’s out with friends or running errands, Kai brings back little things he thinks Cole will like. (Lavaaaaa. 😍)

Kai is a secret book nerd and listens to audiobooks. This is easier on his brain, and he loves to read about history and science and Edwardian lit. (The dude stans Jane Austen.) I also like to think that Kai has an obsession with Regency AU and wants to wear all the Bridgerton clothes and sneak kisses in corridors during dance parties. He’s extremely embarrassed by this and has never shared it with anybody.

Kai is an early morning runner.

Kai has the grossest feet. They’re torn up and blistered from running. It’s disgusting.

Kai occasionally sings in the shower. Off-key. But very committed.

Kai is freakishly observant. He tracks details without really thinking about it or realizing he does it. He’s the sort of person who immediately notices your haircut or that your neighbor repainted their door a slightly darker shade of blue.

Terrible at remembering names. But remembers details about a person. Will often come up with his own nicknames or codenames for people based off these details.

Kai paints his nails so much because 1) flair but also 2) he chews down to skin otherwise.

He loves spicy food. Like…there’s a special shelf for all of Kai’s hot sauces because nobody else can handle the level of spice. Cole comes close, as does Nya. Lloyd enjoys 3 out of 5 on the spice scale. Jay is -1. Like…black pepper makes him sneeze. (It’s adorable.)

Kai is meticulous about laundry.

Kai feels kinda manic a lot of the time, so he doesn’t drink all that much coffee. He prefers tea, and he and Zane share a drawer filled with a dozen different types of tea. He also drinks a lot of water. This guy hydrates like it’s an Olympic sport.

Totally loves jewelry. Wears lots of rings. Earrings. The occasional necklace (always more than one and layered).

Kai is a libra. With aries rising. Unsure about moon. What say you?

He cannot keep a houseplant alive. And damnit he’s tried. He’s tried so hard. (Lloyd is the biggest plant parent of the group and holds an astonishing amount of plant knowledge.)

Kai isn’t really into sports. But he’s been known to watch a football (ahem, soccer for you americans) game from time to time, if it happens to be on.

Kai is a huge texter. Instigates most group chats. (Followed by Jay.) Kai’s textspeech can sometimes be unintelligible. Zane often has to translate, and even then sometimes Zane is stumped.

Matte clay pomade for that hair of his. No gel. No mousse. Maaaybe sometimes a beachy seasalt spray if he’s feeling a little frisky.

His favorite season is winter—it’s the only season he’s not uncomfortably warm all the time.

Kai would totally adopt a cat before a dog. Kai is basically a cat.

Initial Thoughts on Philoise & To Sir Phillip, With Love

My initial thoughts on Philoise as a couple after listening to the audiobook. Spoilers for To Sir Phillip, With Love and all previous Bridgerton books below the fold.

I'll just start out with what I think is going to be the biggest hot take I have about Philoise, which is that I don't understand why Eloise and Phillip's love story gets as much hate as it does. I acknowledge that Phillip is not perfect, but Anthony, Benedict, Colin, and Simon aren't anywhere near perfect either.

I thought it was refreshing that Philoise's story explores a different narrative arc than all of the previous Bridgerton stories. In each of the previous books, the formula is generally Capital-R-Rake falls for Damsel-in-Distress, and his love for her (and the agency he is able to provide her as a woman married to a wealthy, powerful man) solves her problem. Yes, Colin and Kate's characters deviate from this trope slightly, but generally the arc is the same. None of the male protagonists in any of the previous 4 books had much serious interest in marrying until they met their future wife.

I thought it was interesting for Philoise's story to explore the opposite trope with Phillip in search of a wife and Eloise who had always imagined staying single. Phillip is a man who is as far from the definition of rake as possible. Eloise is a woman who is very adept at solving her own problems even within the gender dynamics of the time. I thought it was refreshing that at the beginning of the book, Phillip is already seriously looking for a wife. Of course, just like Anthony early in TVWLM, Phillip is initially looking for a marriage of convenience. However, just like Anthony's story, we see Phillip realize he has the option to have much more than a marriage of convenience.

I saw some spoilers here before I read the book and they insinuated that Phillip manipulated/duped Eloise into becoming his wife in some way . . . and that's just . . . not the case? Their wedding was rushed due to Eloise and Phillip living together unchaperoned for a week, but that wasn't Phillip's manipulation. Eloise showed up unannounced even though she knew that she should send word ahead. Phillip offered to get a chaperone if she let him know ahead of time. Also, they discussed having his aunt join them just before the Bridgerton boyband showed up, suggesting that Eloise was already pretty serious about staying and marrying Phillip. Additionally, Anthony did give Eloise the opportunity to give a good reason as to why she shouldn't marry Phillip. Knowing Anthony, if she had said that he'd acted in a way considered unmarriageable, he would have found a way to prevent Eloise from marrying Phillip.

Another underlying implication of the spoilers I saw was that Phillip was only looking for someone to basically be a governess when he started sending letters to Eloise, but I think that's a broad generalization for two reasons. First, Phillip was still grieving Marina when he started writing Eloise with the intention of considering her for marriage. I think it's one of the strongest aspects of Phillip's character that he had so much empathy and care for Marina, even though the book canon shows very clearly that she had only negative feelings for him. He lived with her for eight years as she hated him and mourned that she was married to Phillip and not his brother. Yet, he felt entirely responsible for the fact that he couldn't make Marina happy enough, at least not to kill herself.

The second reason I think this is a broad generalization, is that it's clear through Phillip's point of view in the books that although he initially considered Eloise for a marriage of convenience, he came to have a fondness for her before he knew how beautiful she was. In one of the early chapters, Phillip is shown feeling put on the spot because Eloise is so witty and usually he had time to think of the best responses to her witticisms as he was drafting his letter. Now, he wants to come off as quick and witty as he did via letter, but he's not sure he's meeting that standard. If Phillip was just looking for a marriage of convenience, he never would have put that much effort into the letters or felt so put on the spot when he met Eloise in person.

This is just my $0.02 on Philoise. If anyone out there wants to send me their thoughts as to why they don't like Philoise, I'd be interested to hear. My reblogs (and ask box) are open.

i kinda do want to read the bridgerton books but i can't bring myself to buy physical copies i never finish e-books and from what i can tell the narrator of the duke and i audiobook is on the edge of orgasm the entire time so what am i meant to do here

22. What’s the longest book you read?

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle was relatively pretty long! Most books I read were about 300-400 pages. The longest audiobook I listened to was Into The Drowning Deep which was about 17 hours (and an amazing performance by the narrator!)

23. What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book?

It takes me a while to read books and a lot of times it’ll take me a month to get to *that point* and then I’ll finish the book in a day or two. I read A Lady For A Duke in a weekend

Going outside of this year, in 2022 I read An Offer From A Gentleman in four hours (Benedict Bridgerton / Sophie Beckett’s book)
