summary | after years of tireless research, bruce is finally given the one thing he thought he'd never have.

an | bruce is such a softie to me, so so soft so the thought of him with a teeny tiny little baby makes me just a little :''-) also! this is the ending i always wanted for him, he would make such a wonderful dad and i love imagining how unbelievably thankful he'd be to have a child with no hulk genes in sight <3 this is also my first time writing bruce!! i hope i did okay!!

"Do you want to hold him?"

Though he had known throughout the whole pregnancy that it was a normal baby, one's genetics that were untouched by his own unique physicality, when it finally came to the moment of meeting for the first time, Bruce couldn't help the wave of anxious thoughts rushing over him as he prepared himself for whatever might come. He knew it was irrational to fear that he might be handed a raging green bundle of gamma-infused flesh, but it was a worry he had never overcome, right up until the very second that little Owen was placed in his arms.

But the moment his eyes fell on the precious infant, the moment his skin brushed against that of the squirmy child, the moment their eyes met and the little one settled down in an instant, immediately soothed by the sight of his father, Bruce knew. He just knew: everything had turned out alright.

"Oh my," he hummed, his gaze wandering over the child lovingly. Wrapped up in a warm blanket, Owen was a tiny creature; Bruce had never held such a delicate thing in his life. "Look at you, you've got your mama's eyes," he smiled at the baby, not failing to also notice the little tufts of dark hair scattered across his head that so perfectly resembled his own. "You're so beautiful," he whispered, running a trembling hand over the boy's head. "Hi Owen," the name was so soft, so sweet as it fell from his mouth. "Hi buddy, hey. Look at these little hands, oh my goodness." As he played with one of the child's tiny fingers, he didn't realize he was crying until his tears were dripping down from his chin to his shirt. "Look at you," he said again, overwhelmingly wrapped up in the sight of his first-born son, "look at you. We did it, huh? Here you are. Here you are," he sighed, almost in relief.

A gentle hand landed on Bruce's arm. He looked over at his wife, smiling as she had sat up a bit in her hospital bed. "You did it, honey. He's perfect, look at him," Bruce wept, his voice breaking as more tears built up in his eyes.

"He looks just like you," Grace whispered, brushing the infant's cheek softly, "he's got your dimples– look, he's already smiling."

"Just like me," Bruce hummed. And deep down he knew that at the same time, the little boy would be nothing like him. And that was all that mattered; they had done it, at last.

k, so uuuhhh…it took me a while to decide which one to write for billy😂 but i’m so glad you asked for one for him, he’s my precious little bastard (affectionate)

prompt #41: comfort food w/ billy hargrove (this one’s a lil angsty, but isn’t all of my billy writing at least a little angsty? lmao)

If you asked Billy if he wanted homemade mac and cheese or the store-bought stuff from the box, he’d quickly tell you the boxed stuff. Homemade meals were never a piece of nostalgia or comfort for him. Hell, half the time he either had to eat leftovers or pray that his father cared enough to offer him a meal since his mother was no longer around to cook for him.

Once he was old enough to start cooking for himself, boxed mac and cheese was the first thing he became quite proficient at making, and it quickly became a comfort food for him. It was odd how something so simple could offer him a sense of comfort, and dare he say it, a sense of personal freedom; but that’s exactly what it did. He wouldn’t go so far as to say that he could live off of it, but he really could if it came down to it. Not that he’d openly share his love of kraft mac and cheese with anyone, though.

Six years ago, if you’d told Bruce that he would be an avenger, working alongside the legendary Captain America himself and genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist Tony Stark, he would’ve laughed in your face. He may have even flat-out told you that it was an absolutely ludicrous idea, that a mild-mannered scientist with a side of Hulk, such as himself, belonged on a team of that caliber. But now, here he was, finding a way to perfectly balance living a life that most people could only hope to have in their dreams. It made him swell with pride to know that he was able to do good in this world in more ways than one.

I remember how, when the Avengers fandom first took off in 2012, everyone was shipping Bruce Banner and Tony Stark and calling it "science bros". The actors even referenced this name during a show, and it was referenced in an Avengers Assemble comic too (the blurb referred to them as "science bros"). I think this was the most popular way to pair them at the time - as a platonic pairing.

Later on, the ship "science boyfriends" took off, and everyone started shipping them romantically. I loved this too, and over the years I made a lot of fanworks for it, and created storylines about it with one of my long-term writing partners. Those storylines lasted an insanely long time.

But I'll always prefer the platonic version, because it was the first MCU ship I ever shipped. It also aligns with my headcanons about their personalities, goals, hang-ups, and one of their orientations the most, and because of that, it's the default way I tend to see them. So it's always nice to see fics like that, especially because the MCU has gone way off into the boonies, and moreover, many earlier fans have dropped off (including myself), so new pairing fics for the OG team are much rarer now, both platonic and romantic.

"Bruce, you're tense," Thor says, gently laying an arm around his shoulders. Bruce instinctively leans into the god's touch before rolling his eyes.

"I'm always tense," Bruce says, a small smile on his face as Thor directs him to one of the fancy seats. "This place feels more like Tony's style than yours."

"Yes, well, you deserve the best!" He says a little too loud and the people around them look over at him with judgment. Thor doesn't seem to notice though, as he carelessly throws himself into one of the fancy chairs. "Oh, is this mahogany?" He says, trailing his finger around the edge of the table.

Bruce, with much more grace but also somehow with less grace than Thor, sits in the seat across from him. Thor smiles at him, a beaming bright white smile that makes Bruce choke on his own breath. He feels butterflies in his stomach and he looks down at the table. He feels a hand on his and he looks up at Thor again.

"I hope this is… okay," Thor says, shrugging a shoulder. "I'm still not in tune with all of this… Human stuff."

Bruce chuckles and shakes his head.

"I'm human and have been living here my whole life and I'm not even in tune with any of it," Bruce says and Thor laughs, a big boisterous laugh that makes everyone look at them again. "It's fine, Thor."

Thor smiles widely and a waiter comes over with a couple of menus. When the waiter leaves Thor leans forward and looks at Bruce's menu. Then back up at Bruce.

"Do you know what any of this is?" Thor asks, looking at him with wide eyes. Bruce looks up at him and shakes his head. They both laugh then, Thor's loud and joyful and Bruce's soft but just as joy-filled. They sit there for a few seconds before Thor throws down the menu. "This may have been a bad idea."

"This is more of Tony's type of place than ours…" Bruce mumbles and Thor stands up abruptly. He holds out his hand and Bruce takes it.

"Want to go to Al's Steakhouse?" Thor asks and Bruce smiles wide.

"Yeah. That's more us."
