In both the film and the BEAST novel, Dazai tells Atsushi and Akutagawa that they must protect the Book and Yokohama because of the danger ahead.
It is implied that more than two people should not know about these events, as it could alter space-time and make the world that Dazai so painstakingly created disappear.
However, in the film it is mentioned that Fyodor DOES KNOW about these events, so he appoints a hitman to get rid of Akutagawa and Atsushi as soon as possible.
This makes me seriously think about what role Fyodor plays in the entire series:
• Indeed Fyodor was not murdered, and it is impossible for him to be killed. Since he plays an important role as the "Grand Inquisitor" (and I think it's God/Christ himself but I'll talk about this later), the Book doesn't have an effect on him in the same way as it does with Dazai.

Bungo stray dogs fans will really watch a character get cut in half, drowned, shot in the head, blown up and have characters prepare for another character's funeral and be like i wonder how they survived because they couldn't have possibly died.

*SPOILER WARNING CHAPTER 112*
Something is really off about Fyodor's death in the manga
Having just read the latest chapter, I noticed something really weird with Fyodor death scene. It all comes down to Dazai's reaction.
Before Fyodor "death" we see Dazai being all smug and gloating about what Fyodor missed, very typical of his character in general.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then his mood suddenly shifts completely
Tumblr media
He suddenly becomes very sombre, no triumph or gloating, this could be him regretting having to kill Fyodor, but the next few panels make me think there's more too it then that.
Tumblr media
Look at Dazai's expression here, the way he seems so suspicious of the hand
Tumblr media
I don't think we've ever seen Dazai's eyes like this, they are blank white, it's almost like his mafia eyes but colour inverted. This is not the face of someone who just beat their greatest enemy, or someone mourning their loss, It looks like Dazai is unsatisfied, I can't quite describe it, but there is something more in those eyes.
After Fyodors death Dazai is uncharacteristically quiet and Chuuya even points it out, again, nothing about this says "we won!" it feels like we still lost somehow.
Tumblr media
So why would Dazai not want Fyodor dead? While it could be because he was sad to lose the only person who thought like him, while that's possible, I want to explore another idea.
Death did not stop Fyodor.
Dazai could have killed Fyodor when he had him cornered in the cafe if he wanted to, or have someone else kill him so he doesn't break his promise to Oda.
Tumblr media
But he didn't, he let Ango arrest him instead, even though Dazai knew what a threat he was, why?
It all comes down to this.
Tumblr media
The only way Dazai can counter Dostoyevsky is when he's right there in front of him. So now he's dead, Dazai can't read his actions any more. It's like he's fighting a ghost, all the plans Fyodor will have laid in case he died will be 10x harder to uncover and stop since it's much harder to fight an invisible enemy.
Remember that Dazai did not order the piolet to kill Fyodor, Bram did, and Dazai admitted to not having any say in that deal
Tumblr media
.
I don't have any final point here, I just wanted to vent these thoughts. Does Fyodor quoting jesus on the cross mean he's going to come back in three days? What's going on with Sigma? I have way more questions than answers and it's driving me nuts

[bsd ch 113 spoilers]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Same as ever
It started as me wanting to just sketch the pose, then the adhd won and i was several hours deep into inking at 5:30 am.... but i sure did it! And i think i get watercolors a little better now!
I didnt think about it until i was already working on the second piece, but i think what this is is the feeling i got while reading Crime and Punishment where they described people doing things and i realized that they were doing things we think of as exclusively modern behaviors but really, humans are just the same as we always were.

okay new theory on fyodor’s ability
this may sound strange but. what if he can time travel? but only his own body, everything in the present stays the same.
Tumblr media
we see sigma remark here that fyodor looks the exact same when he is clearly many years into the past.
"oh, what if his ability is immortality?" he can’t be since he has a somewhat pre-established ability. also, it’s been stated before that he is "under 29 years old" so i suppose that he couldn’t have existed that long anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyways, we are to believe his words here, that this killing power is his true ability. what does that have to do with time travel?
well
what if he brings only himself into the future, kills karma (or whoever his victim is), through whatever means, and cuts back to the present as they die? which is why it cuts to their death? because only he can see the future where he went and killed them?
i suppose he’s like a human equivalent of amenogozen?
the future hasn’t happened yet, so it probably looks frozen, making him not fully able to control or predict what happens. that could be why he accidentally got himself killed, he couldn’t see that happening because it hadn’t happened yet and was out of his control.
now, if he were to travel to the past, it has already happened so he can still interact with that world? which is how he manipulated time to meet bram.
it sounds really messy but please remember this is bsd so it could make sense.

so it’s a fact that Fyodor mostly surrounds himself with white haired men and specifically white haired men with long hair. For example: Ivan, Shibusawa, Nikolai, Sigma and now Bram.
Noteable mentions of white haired men with short hair that Fyodor has associated with: Ace, Fukuchi and Nathaniel.
Do you know who else is often portrayed with long white hair? That’s right: God!
His devotion to god has been very obvious throughout the series. He wants to become God’s special little guy but because he can’t have him right now (believes he has to destroy abilities as a sign of his devotion to god) he is searching for comfort in every random white haired guy he can find.

i was thinking abt the new chapter and yes its a little worrying that fyodor is very possibly alive (icanttakethisanymore) but its also kind of funny to see dazai genuinely panic a bit for once and chuuya's just. there. he could literally not give a rat's ass. dazai's leg is broken and he's choosing to sit there and do nothing as dazai tries to drag out a dead body from under a wreckage. i literally cant help but love him

If you want to understand Fyodor of BSD you must:
✓ Read Brothers Karamazov, and pay attention to the chapter related to Ivan Karamazov; also read about "The Grand Inquisitor" (a topic that is discussed in the novel, but as a research topic it's interesting).
✓ Read Crime and Punishment and research abou "Napoleonic Complex": lower and higher beings.
✓ Understand how Dostoevsky reflects the devil in his literary characters vs how the gospel / the Bible sees him.
✓ MAYBE you need to read "The Demons" by Fyodor Dostoevsky. (I'm still working on it, but I'm sharing it by chance, I know I will find more helpful references)
NOTES: Asagiri-sensei said in an interview he used Ivan Karamazov's monologue with the gentleman (devil) in order to develop Dostoevsky's character. So if you are like me, a deist, who has not read the Bible at all and is unaware of the orthodox Christian gospel, It will be enough for you to simply read The Brothers Karamazov and understand how Fyodor Dostoevsky makes his characters question whether they believe in God and what is or is not allowed depending on whether one believes in Him.

Fyodor Will Be Fine
Back to writin' this. Assuming that the anime is following hte manga's path (likely), Fyodor's gonna be fine y'all. Eventually.
I mean, first and most obviously, we still don't know Fyodor's ability. That's kinda important lol and set up as a major mystery.
Fyodor as Jesus
Fyodor's last words are "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" aka Jesus' last words (or among his last words). I mean, think about what happens after Jesus dies. It's kinda the whole basis of Christianity.
But there's another layer to the whole Fyodor=Jesus thing. Actually, a couple layers. See, Dostoyevsky was himself very Christian, as much theologian as novelist. So the comparison very much makes sense.
Jesus is the Son of God in Christianity... and Fyodor? He's also the son of God.
God is a Character
This God figure Fyodor references is probably an actual person, and God is probably Tolstoy. I'm sorry but there is 0 chance we are getting Dostoyevsky and a whole host of Russian novelists but not Tolstoy who could have "War and Peace" as his ability. Not to mention... the set up is kinda perfect?
Tolstoy's three novels are War and Peace, Anna Karenina, and... Resurrection. Gee I wonder what his ability might be and how that ties into Fyodor (it's also surely not unheard of for Asagiri to use multiple literary references in an ability).
What is Tolstoy's relationship with Fyodor? Probably a parent-child one. I'd say it's extremely obvious, actually, that parent/child relationships are a main theme of this arc, even if the parental-child relationships are not actual flesh and blood.
Gogol-Fyodor parallel Chuuya-Dazai, Kunikida-Dazai, Tecchou-Jouno, and Atsushi-Akutagawa. All of these pairings also have parental figures (Mori, Fukuzawa, Fukichi, Dazai) except Gogol-Fyodor, who are themselves parental figures to Sigma. I highly doubt Fyogol is the exception, though.
Tumblr media
If there is no god, then I am god
Anyways if Tolstoy is introduced, it would kinda be perfect to have him thematically in this role of family. Because the real life Tolstoy was actually terrible to his family despite his altruistic, idealistic pacifism that directly influenced Gandhi (with whom he corresponded). And also because he wrote one of the most famous opening lines in all of literature which would kinda sorta address all the pseudo-parental relationships in the entire story:
Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way
It fits super perfectly.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BUNGOU STRAY DOGS CHAPTER 114!
GUYS IF FYODOR CAN POSSES A PERSON WHO TOUCHES HIS BLOOD AFTER HE DIES, WHOS CURRENT HOLDING HIS BLOODSOAKED SEVERED HAND
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fyodor promised to come after Gogol for trying to kill him and having the character who imbodies manipulation overwrite the free will of the character who above all else wants to break free of all control would be such a cruel and interesting twist, its so in in character for Fyodor to make Gogol care about him so strongly then destroy the greatest wish of Gogols heart

okay guys HEAR ME OUT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so in these two panels we see sigma touching fyodor, to gain information from him
and i’m almost positive that sigma isn’t actually dead, he just fainted from the amount of knowledge he got, like atsushi did
okay now hear me out, WHAT IF sigma was seeing what fyodor’s actual plan was, for chuuya to kill dazai BUT IT HASN’T ACTUALLY HAPPENED YET.
it’s very far fetched but i feel like it’s something asagiri would do and i’m trying to cling to the hope that sigma and dazai aren’t actually dead
IM HOPING ASAGIRI DIDN’T ACTUALLY HAVE THE BALLS TO KILL TWO FAN FAVORITE CHARACTERS.
then again, he also said he “loved” sigma, he also “loved” oda AND THAT MF IS DEAD NOW
