You're sort of one of the kindest people i know on tumblr, so. um. i had a question.
how do i deal with it all?
right of the bat i will tell you i am a minor and my parents are zionists, so i have no income of my own or anything i could donate. everytime i post a single fundraiser that reaches my inbox and is vetted, i get 4-5 new fundraising asks for palestine.
most of them are unvetted, but i keep thinking that if i can't donate i should at least have faith in people and reblog the fundraisers even if they're unvetted, possibly that they're actually new and need as much help we can give, however, there's a possibility they are scams, and i don't want to draw away the attention vetted fundraisers might get.
how do you decide where to help out and how to live with your decision?
I have a policy that when it comes to asks (or messages) that solicit money or other actions (like boosting posts) I don't respond to or even publish asks that come from anyone that has never spoken to me before that moment, and that's a policy that has been in place for many years now, and is unlikely to change largely because the majority of asks/messages that are requesting money or to visit a blog post/their blog/their website are scams (or more often several years ago, led to virus infections on your computer!). My blog is, as it has stated at the top for over ten years now, a personal blog, not a fundraising/signal boosting/vetting blog for spreading donations- there ARE blogs like that, and people can choose to interact with those blogs or not, but my blog isn't the place for it and that's a hard boundary I enforce for my own well being. Tumblr is my place to rest and recover, however I see fit to do that.
A random ask to my inbox asking for money, regardless of what it is for, is (in my view) equivalent to a cold call from a stranger soliciting money. It's not about faith in people, it's not about right or wrong, it's not about can or can't. This is my home, and I don't answer the phone to unknown numbers. I will help friends/family/people I know personally (or parasocially, if I like them or recognize them), obviously, but that's a bit of a different horse.
As for how I decide where to help out, if I have the ability (funds, spoons, time etc), I will seek out information on the best place to donate that can do the most with the money to help the person/people/cause that I want to help. It's the Food Pantry Equation: I could spend $5 on groceries at retail price to donate, and maybe get enough for 1 meal for 1 person (though in this fuckoff capitalist hellscape, I'm not sure $5 would even buy a whole meal), or I could give $5 directly to a Food Pantry organization, who buys in bulk and knows where to get stuff cheap, so that my $5 can help five people or ten people or whatever. I also do my best to participate in fandom events that raise money for good causes; stuff like the fanworks charity auction I helped run to donate to a wolf sanctuary, or stuff like Fandom Trumps Hate (another charity fanworks auction event). Those kind of events are generally open about where the donations go to, and have done research into organizations to ensure the gathered money goes to good charities.
Like with the above, however, it's different if I know the person. If my neighbor comes and asks for a cup of sugar or my friend needs help moving or whatever, I'm gonna give them what they need without the middleman because we have that relationship already established. Donating $5 to a food pantry would probably help more people by numbers, but helping my neighbors and friends and family etc builds community in a way giving $5 to a random stranger on the phone soliciting money cannot, and even in a way donating $5 (or $5 worth of food) to a Food Pantry cannot. It's also usually a matter of one and done, as well as semi-transactional the way any relationship is a give and take; I can give my neighbor some sugar, and down the road they can return the favor the next time I'm in need of help. I help my friends move and I know whether or not I ever move, myself, that they would do the same for me if they're able. You can't say this about a random ask on the Internet and you likely won't ever be able to say it for most charities unless you somehow end up in their exact area of expertise. So it's different.
I feel like you should also learn about Tim Wong, the guy who basically single-handedly repopulated the Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly out in California. The lesson his story can and should teach is that... sometimes it can do more good for the world to care Very Much about one specific thing, and put your heart and soul into it, than it does to spread a little bit of care over a lot of things.
So, I guess what I mean to say here is... don't feel guilty about what you cannot do. There's no guilt in that. When you are ready and able to help, you can always go and look for a good way to do so (and what you end up helping may not always be the thing you think it will be), but you don't need to feel pressured by telemarketers or charity donation calls from strangers while you're trying to eat dinner. Especially if they don't even know who you are, either.

Cosplay Build Guide: Marko's Jacket from The Lost Boys (1987)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am a lover of the horror genre; horror movies, books, games, you name it! And one of my favorite horror movies is the 1987 classic “The Lost Boys”, which focuses on a gang of motorcycle-riding vampires in the fictional California town of Santa Carla. I'm also a big fan of thrifting and modifying items for cosplay. I decided to combine those two things and make a garment that has lived rent-free in my head since I first saw the film: the colorful patchwork jacket worn by the vampire Marko.
I'm going to walk you through how I made Marko's jacket, breaking down the different parts that comprise the garment.
Marko’s outfit is made up of several components: a white cropped tank top, light wash denim jeans, leather chaps, custom painted leather moto boots, fingerless motorcycle gloves, a black skull earring, and of course, that iconic and extremely loud jacket.
All four titular vampires have a signature jacket they wear in the movie, and Marko’s is by far the most elaborate and distinctive. It consists of three main parts: the base jacket, the Italian tapestries, and the patches. Because of the nature of this build, I had to do a ton of intensive research to determine the individual and highly specific parts of the jacket. My main references were photos from movie memorabilia auction sites whenever one of the original jackets went up for sale, since they photograph the jacket from all angles.
Part 1: The Base Jacket
Marko’s base jacket is, according to my research, a men’s black Levi’s denim jacket in a size 40, which I believe translates to a medium. Now, I’m a petite woman (5’3”, athletic but slim), so I knew that the exact jacket would be too big for my frame. Instead, I found a men’s black denim jacket in an extra small; it's very similar in style to the original, but a little better proportioned for me. It's still very much oversized though. The first things I did were remove the buttons and pockets, and I cut off the hem of the jacket and the sleeve cuffs. Then I tossed the jacket in the washing machine to fray the edges.
Tumblr media
Part 2: The Tapestries
The hardest part of the jacket by far was finding the tapestries, for two reasons. The first is that the tapestries were all from the 1960’s and 1970’s, meaning I had to scour vintage stores and websites to find the right ones. The second is the variation. Six jackets were made for each Lost Boy in the movie; this is standard for a film, since some jackets would be used for closeups (the”hero” jackets) while others were used for stunts, and a few even have intentional holes in them for harness rigging. Because of that and the thrifted nature of the jacket, the Marko jackets for the film all differ slightly in the placement of the tapestries and patches.
There are five tapestries in total. Three are velvet: the matador, the peacock, and the leopard with the messed up face. These are impossible to dupe via Spoonflower or Contrado (custom fabric printing websites) due to the fact that these three are essentially small rugs. The other two, chariot lady and cat lady, are dupable via Spoonflower or Contrado printing since they aren’t the same fabric as the others.
The two pin-up tapestries are nearly impossible to find, more so than the velvet ones. In my months of searching, I never found either pin-up tapestry, so I had them printed by Contrado, along with the collar trim.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you go searching for the velvet tapestries, you'll notice that there are several different versions of each one, with slight changes in color and placement of things in the art. How accurate you want to be is up to you. My peacock and matador are accurate to the tapestries on one of the stunt jackets, whereas my leopard is the correct color but wrong direction. That's doesn't bother me much, personally, especially since the leopard is the hardest of the velvet tapestries to find by far.
Tumblr media
Once the tapestries were acquired, I measured different sections based on the dimensions of the jacket, mapped it out using washi tape on the tapestries, and then cut them all out. There was a decent amount of math involved here, specifically regarding scaling the sections of tapestry down by a few inches since my jacket is smaller than the original. I then arranged them all onto the denim jacket and pinned them in place before hand sewing them (yes, you read that right; I hand sewed this whole thing) on in the correct overlap. I also added the rhinestones to the cat lady.
I recommend using embroidery needles and upholstery thread to attach the tapestries to the jacket, due to the thickness and the weight. I also sewed along the designs in the tapestries themselves to better hide the stitching within the image.
Tumblr media
Part 3: The Patches
Marko’s jacket has a total of 26 different patches on it, most of which are motorcycle or punk themed. For these, I found a seller on Etsy who makes 24 of them, and I used Contrado to print the remaining two (the anarchy symbol and the large skull) on canvas and added the stitching. You could thrift and find the patches as well, but here's the thing: while some of these patches are pretty easy to find, others seem to be nonexistent, to the point that I wonder if some were made exclusively for the movie. That's why I went and purchased my patches instead of hunting them down. My personal favorite is the “Screw U” one. One fun fact about the patches is that the large winged skull on the back is a leftover from the movie “The Warriors”.
I once again hand sewed these all on as per the references from the movie. You might think that ironing the patches on is an easier method, but there's a few reasons why that won't work: 1) the patches in the movie are sewn on; if you zoom in, you can see the stitching 2) I'm not sure the patches would even adhere to the velvet and velour of the tapestries and 3) if you decide you don't like the placement of a patch that you sewed on, you can just seam rip the stitching and adjust it, which you can't really do as cleanly with an ironed-on patch.
Tumblr media
Part 4: The Tassels
The tassels on the jacket’s shoulder are not tassels at all; they’re squid skirts (a type of fishing lure), which is something I never knew existed until I started researching for this build. For these, I found a fishing tackle website that had the closest match to the colors I needed, a blue-grey/orange and a yellow/green. Both squids also have glitter and little eyes painted on.
Tumblr media
Part 5: Weathering and Finishing Touches
Lastly, I weathered the jacket to give it that lived-in look. For the dirt/dust on the patches, I used powder eyeshadow. I also picked at the edges of the tapestries to fray them a bit. And to make the patches less stiff, I just broke the jacket in by wearing it around my house. The great thing about this jacket is that the more I wear it and the more it weathers, the better it'll look.

FAQ
How heavy and warm is the jacket?
The jacket is made of denim and rugs, so its pretty warm and heavy. It honestly feels like wearing a weighted blanket, which is a nice bonus if you're anxiety made flesh like I am. It makes a lot of sense for the jacket to be on the heavier side, because if you’ve been to Northern California, you know how cold it can get on the coast, especially at night (not sure if vampires can feel cold, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
How long did it take you to make the jacket?
I don’t time my cosplay builds, but I can guess based on the amount of TV/movies/podcasts/playlists consumed as I was working on it. I'm also pretty fast when it comes to hand sewing. By my estimation, the jacket took me about 45-50 hours of work, and that’s not counting the time I spent searching for the tapestries.
Can you make me one?
Sorry friend, I don't take commissions. Even if I did, there's no guarantee I could find the exact tapestries again. I appreciate the interest though!
I hope you enjoyed this walkthrough of Marko's jacket! This was a fun build and I'm really proud of the finished product. I'm going to make the rest of Marko's outfit + wig to complete the cosplay, so stay tuned for that!

wonwoo came home to find yn passed out on the couch.
"you okay?" - wonwoo
"i need sleep. i've been stuck at school finishing my final project and i just finished. now i have to worry about the stupid reunion in two days. i have no dress and i look like a zombie. life is great." - yn
"go take a shower. i'll get the guys to help you. jeonghan has connections." - wonwoo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the word shock wasn't enough to describe the look on everyone's faces when yn and wonwoo walked in through the door.
some background information: in the one week before this gathering, yn had completed her pieces for the museum, her final project for university and all her outstanding commissions. her exhibit had been very successful and she had earned quite a significant amount of money.
"yn. is that your boyfriend?" - aunt
"yes. this is jeon wonwoo, my boyfriend." - yn
"nice to meet you, my name is jeon wonwoo." - wonwoo
"yn-noona... isn't that the streamer gameboi? you're dating Korea's number 1 [game name] player?" - younger cousin
"no way..."
the whispers in the event room got louder and louder until the people she hated finally came towards her. it was evident that chae-young was gawking at wonwoo. she didn't even bother to hide her lovestruck expression from her husband.
"so this is the new guy you have, huh yn." - mother
"good morning, i'm jeon wonwoo." - wonwoo
it seemed like he had to repeat himself often today.
"what's your net worth?" a disrespectful question right off the bat was expected and both yn and wonwoo had prepared for it.
without missing a beat, wonwoo simply smiled and said, "14 million. I am sure that I have enough to take care of yn for the rest of our lives."
the jealousy that clouded chae-young's face was the best thing that yn had ever seen.
sitting at the table was very awkward because they were surrounded by whispers and glances.
“so wonwoo. what do you work as?” chae-young’s husband was actually a very nice man. he was always kind to yn and her brother and was the complete opposite of his distasteful wife.
“i’m a gamer. i’m currently in talks of joining [fictional korea no.1 pro gamer team]. that deal closes before june,” - wonwoo
“ah i see. what about you, yn? what are you working as now?” this question was on everyone’s mind. some with ulterior motives.
“up until thursday, i was a museum part-timer and finishing university. but i recently managed to sell many of my art pieces and have made quite a name for myself in the past three days. in case you all didn’t know, almost every artwork in this building was made by me over the last 4 years.” - yn
the room was silent. you could hear a pin drop and wonwoo couldn’t help but smile to himself.
let’s walk through the real train of events.
after the “fake-dating” agreement, wonwoo, minghao, mingyu and dokyeom had helped yn move every piece of her artworks over the years to minghao’s studio to sort through them. it took them almost 30 hours to categorise. by monday, they had organised the auction within the museum, an exhibition for her other works and an online bidding website for exclusive works. from tuesday to thursday, the auctions and exhibitions opened.
every one of yn’s artworks sold for incredibly high prices. this particular hotel that the family reunion was, had purchased a significant amount of said artworks.
“you mean you painted that painting of a phoenix?” - uncle
“i did that 2 years ago.” - yn
“and that ceramic heart? that was you?” - aunt
“yes.” - yn
wonwoo could not help but smile at yn’s nonchalent bragging. just then, a hand reached across to tap his.
“so~ wonwoo-oppa~ how did you and yn meet?" chae-young began to blatantly flirt with wonwoo while her HUSBAND sat helplessly beside her.
“i commissioned an art piece from her and fell in love at first sight.” wonwoo forcefully took back his hand before leaning closer to yn, earning a scowl from chae-young.
yn was’t exaggerating when she described all of chae-young’s antics.
here’s a list of the things she tried but failed to do. seduce wonwoo, yn’s “boyfriend”, spill water on yn, pretend that yn stepped on her foot on purpose, claim yn slapped her.
how embarrassing.

synopsis: wonwoo is a popular streamer known for his incredible gaming skills and good looks. The Homemaker
Shoshannah Greene
from the website "I really enjoy spending my down time watching home styling content online. So many people extend their personal styles into their homes, from mid century modern, Japandi, Eclectic, boho, to minimalism.
I pictured Beaver, an animal who is known to build intricate housing, settling into her room with newly painted Lime washed walls. The box is painted in washes with a combination of Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber. The design has her wrapped around the box, her paws nestled in by her face. On the back, the beaver’s tail has her human form smiling at her finished product."

Chenford's first kiss from Tamara's pov
read on ao3 rated T wc: 1326
Tamara was annoyed, walking home from the bus stop two blocks away. The day had not gone according to plan, not even close. After Lucy’s recommendation to check out C’s car auction for a good deal on buying her first car, Tamara showed up to their special Memorial Day sale and fell in love with this mega cute light blue mini with the white stripes. She had seen it listed on their outdated website, stoked Lucy had known about them since they were frequently used by police and the fire department to remove vehicles in the streets blocking entrances, fire hydrants, and other fire and safety codes.
It was a good car and probably sat in a parking garage for most of the pandemic so it didn't have too many miles on it yet and looked fairly clean. It had the retro center dash, no touch screen. The perfect car to zip around LA and look cute while doing it. Tamara balked at the low price, excited to see it was below the amount she had saved for her first car purchase, able to snag it with enthusiasm.
Just that morning, she showed up to offer her cash in exchange for the car. After Lucy’s insistence that she meet her at the station to show off her new ride, (so Lucy would know it was her driving if she needed to pull her over), Tamara saw her dream car snatched away from her the instant that police dog started barking at her trunk.
Forced back onto the bus just hours after thinking she was done with it, Tamara contemplated stealing acquiring her 6th car. Instead, she had asked the cute boy who worked in the police garage to keep an eye on when the car would be released from Evidence so she could repurchase it before it went to auction. She had considered texting Tim to keep track of it, knowing he would just to get Lucy off his back; she ended up not, expecting him to be in a bad mood after meeting his doppelgänger.
Not being able to stick around and see him, to make fun of Tim, sucked, but she had to catch the bus in time for her late morning class and had to miss out on what Lucy had later texted and could only be described as “Florida Tim.”
She liked the car and freaking hated taking the bus. All she wanted to do when she walked in the door was get to relax, and not worry about her car. Then she wanted to bother Lucy about Dim and hear about Tim’s reaction to it all over a bowl of whatever cliptok recipe she had saved last.
Walking up to the building, she looked up and saw a low light emitting from their 6th-floor corner apartment even though the shades were closed. Lucy probably had candles lit, the cute wall sconces, and her lanterns. The apartment got so much sun, alternative lighting was more of an ambiance thing than anything else.
Then she noticed Tim’s car parked in their second parking spot, her parking spot. The one she would have used had that dog not found the black-tar heroin in her trunk. And thank fuck it was Lucy and Tim who had been there, instead of some random cops on Melrose.
Tamara took the elevator up to their floor, shuffling her backpack to get out her apartment keys, so much lighter missing the weight of her car key. It was only there a short time, but damn it had been so emotionally bonding struggling to take it on and then off again just an hour later. Only one drive in on their journey together. She flipped the light blue coiled rubber around her finger, waiting for the elevator to finish ascending, wondering what Tim was doing at their apartment. He and Lucy didn't really hang out outside of work, not since Tim started dating Ashley and Lucy started seeing Chris.
What she didn't expect to see, but couldn’t say surprised her, when she unlocked her apartment door– Tim and Lucy standing fully pressed together, and making out.
“Ooh? Uh, I—” Tamara startled, interrupting their moment.
They backed away from each other, like teens caught doing something they knew they shouldn't have, shocked and outed, fear dripping off their faces with fright.
Breathless and affected by a good kiss, Tamara knew it was a long time coming and immediately offered to vacate for their privacy so they could continue. It was about damn time those two idiots wised up and did a little more than just make out.
“I should probably go,” she thumbed back to the hallway, sure she could let Lucy and Tim have the apartment for the night.
“No!” Lucy protested, pointing accusingly to Tim she explained, “This is work. This is work.”
Tim, panting, nodding along with what she was saying, jumped in on their alibi, “Yeah, yeah, we-we’re going undercover. And its—”
Tamara interrupted, not needing to hear their half-baked excuses, “I mean, hey- hey, it's cool. I mean, you don't have to explain yourself. Alright?” She huffed with a laugh, wanting to show her support for their budding relationship. “I should probably go.” nodding back to herself and the door, Tamara stepped toward it.
“Nope!” Lucy protested as Tim chanted behind her a series of no’s.
“I was just about to leave. You know what?” Tim rushed toward the coffee table, both of them having no idea what to do with themselves or their bodies. “No, I don't have anything.”
Tim stepped around the couch and looked to Lucy to say goodbye but thought better of it, instead just awkwardly pointing at her and saying, “I'll see you tomorrow,” in a low and even tone.
“Good— good work tonight,” Lucy muttered clearly in reply. Turning away from him, hating out that sounded.
Tim echoed his reply, “Great work as well,” before saying a curt “bye” to Tamara and shutting the apartment door looking like he was still stuck in the gravitation pull of Lucy’s kiss.
Tamara looked around the apartment as he left, trying to see if anything was out of place, giving Lucy an extra moment to compose herself before offering up anything, really. Seeing the events still processing on Lucy’s face, Tamara did the kind thing and offered to leave her to it, “I’m gonna go to my room,” she announced, watching Lucy immediately turn away in agreement.
“Yeah, me too. Good.” Stalking off tall and proud, Lucy went to her room to spiral for a minute, or two.
***
Tamara got the rundown at breakfast– they’re doing an undercover assignment as their doppelgängers who happen to be dating each other Lucy warned Tamara not to comment on it and swore that the kiss didn’t mean anything. He was dating Ashley, she was dating Chris, he was her boss, and nothing was going to come from it. It was just a part of becoming an undercover cop and Lucy was going to have to get used to pretending with her coworkers if she wanted to be halfway decent at her job.
Plus, she needed to debrief with Tim, needed to see how he was reacting, if they would talk about it and do something about the chemistry they both felt or if they were going to move on like it was just part of crafting their undercover personas– which is what it was, part of their backstory. They had to be good at kissing, and they were, maybe a little too good.
Whatever her excuse, Tamara didn’t quite believe her, always having advocated for appreciation of Tim’s zaddy-ness and knowing Lucy had a thing for older guys. Ah, it would only be a matter of time now, until Tamara needed to get a car to give her an even easier out to leaving the apartment vacant most nights for Tim and Lucy to practice more.

If you ever need Stuff, and it can be (or has to be) slightly old, and doesn't have to be *specific* it just needs to *work*,
look for surplus sales. Surplus sales are when a public/state entity (think universities, department of transportation, etc) needs to get rid of stuff. There are strict rules about them getting rid of stuff, and often, if it still works, they can't throw something away. [state rules may vary, I am speaking from the US so country rules definitely may vary]
It doesn't matter that it's out of date, that it doesn't run the programs they need, that every other desk in the building has those fancy holes for wires to disappear into and this one doesn't. They have to make it available to other departments and then offer it to the public. (Also this cuts down on trash/recycling/disposal costs, also also I think any income from surplus might just be free money that they can add to the budget without having to have detailed plans for it.)
My local university surplus updates its inventory once a week and is open twice a week: Once for people involved in the university, and then later for the public to pick over.
I needed a monitor that was <24 inches for desk space reasons, and had a VGA connection, for old-computer reasons. 25 cents. TWENTY-FIVE CENTS, on a table of older monitors. They have plenty of newer monitors for more, if you need 40-inch HDMI etc etc, but they aren't retail-price either. Computers labeled as "no hard drive" or "for parts only" or whole computers that actually work, would you like an iMac for like $300??
I needed a new office chair, I mentioned recently. Surplus listed having "39 rolling chairs" in stock. I went and they ranged from basically exactly the chair I was replacing to fancy ergonomic whatevers. I got a new chair -- $30 for one that, glancing at the Staples website, would be about $300 new. Pulls to the right a little bit if I'm rolling it down a hallway but I'm not so who cares.
And it's not just office supplies and furniture? When the food service department replaces stuff, same rules apply. When the drama department gets rid of costumes and props.
Lots of 3-ring binders for 25 cents apiece. Aprons, same. I think 25c might be the minimum they can price stuff at. Sports stuff. A/V equipment. Cameras. wires and wood.
Also used cars, and fancy lab/janitorial equipment if you need a $4000 medical-grade freezer for $200[as is, functionality unknown] or a $10,000 floor scrubber for $800[works], but in my experience those are auctions rather than being loaded into the surplus warehouse.

tuesday again halloween problems (10/31/2023)
not quite an "oops all friends" edition but this edition heavily advised by viewers like you. thank you!
listening
mcr's blood, for seasonal reasons. spotify
Father Finlee by Spence Hood and Justin Ray Stringer is my new favorite song, a spooky prison? folk ballad? elements of the work song and dirge about it. rounds are underutilized in modern music imo.
Finlee played that guard like a fiddle Turned his own fears into a honing missile “Father can you save my soul…” “Well, first you gotta bring me a little C4...”
usually when a song intrigues me like this i try to find interviews or breakdowns of samples or something, but i am coming up flat empty. @dying-suffering-french-stalkers tasting notes: "Volga Boatmen, maybe, but by way of like...1950s/60s Disney choruses? Like Grim Grinning Ghosts?" spotify

reading
somewhat horrifying but unsurprising article about how companies who want (or want to keep) governments contracts can buy out entire DC Metro stations' adspaces. via @andmaybegayer i think?
The Pentagon station, a prime target for reaching DOD staffers, was one of a kind. The Pentagon is the most expensive station to “dominate” according to Outfront Media data which I obtained, even though it has substantially fewer riders than some of the others. Advertising to the 665,786 commuters estimated to visit the Pentagon station in a four week period costs $198,000 (about 30 cents per commuter), before fees. Yet in Gallery Place-Chinatown, a station in downtown DC farther away from government buildings, it costs only $120,000 to reach more than three times as many people (5 cents per commuter).
it is difficult to stress how uncooperative miss mackintosh was during this book's photoshoot. this is genuinely the best one.

i did not enjoy and did not finish Roshani Chokshi's 2018 queer magical intrigue and heist caper in belle epoque france, first in a trilogy. i think there is a mismatch between concept and execution here. i originally had a rather long paragraph about how i'd be interested in a non-new-adult book from her, but after checking her website and seeing that she mostly writes midde-grade and YA, and classifies this book as YA (which doesn't really make sense to me, i think everyone in the core crew can legally drink and i think what i read from this book fits better in New Adult) and has a forthcoming adult book i am not interested in, i think she is simply not an author for me. i reevauated this book with YA in mind, but i think teens deserve books with sophisticated writing and good execution too!
this had a really killer hook but the worldbuilding comes very in thick and fast during the first quarter of the book i read, and felt a little dorling kindersley (here is an eye of horus! on a chinese compass! with a sumerian cipher!). the magical system chokshi uses is novel in its heavy reliance on physical objects and like, countermeasures and counterspells? we get little hints of it as a global system, and it feels very analogous to The Power Of The Computer. a lot of it is based on creation of various physical objects, some of it is mind-based, there are the equivalent of magical stone faraday cages. the macguffin is like. what if a major internet exchange was an object you could carry around.
this magic system is so interesting it makes it disappointing and difficult to break down the distinction between "i don't think the soft-skill worldbuilding through connections and loyalties of characters is that well executed in these first hundred pages" and "hate this specific literary device". we are dropped into a heist at a magical auction where the many magical representatives are attending and rapidly rush through a lineup. this would be a really fun movie or other visual setpiece with intricate costuming choices, but it's hard to show and not tell a complex system of combined familial/cultural/nation-state houses of magic with backstabbing politics when you are rushing through a very time-limited heist. i know that it's the first in a trilogy, but the sheer number of factions and names is very large for a ~400 page trilogy entry. if this were a fucking doorstopper of a series i would have more faith that all will be eventually explained and i will eventually be able to distinguish them all, but i truly don't think she has the pages to do that.
the book's most frequent reviewer praise is that most of the core (but still! very wide! there are so many goddamn names!) cast are colonized or otherwise oppressed people, and i must give this book props for including a bisexual man in the ragtag crew. i read up to the first hundred pages to the first twist, and when the person who joins them at the twist has a voice that is not distinct from the existing gang’s, who are already not distinct from each other, i put the book down. a brief excerpt that does not serve this point very well but serves the following paragraph's point
Tumblr media
this book felt like someone describing their dnd campaign to me. people on goodreads do love this book so i'm sure it does eventually deliver on the heist and found family aspects, but it's simply not for me.
bought this here in houston over the summer ( i think) not sure where

"it’s a pity you didn’t know when you started playing murder…that i was playing too." vincent price truly is that bitch. his scenes with his fourth wife in the film, carol ohmart, are electric. they hate each other so much. they've tried to kill each other so many times. she laughs when he reminds her how she poisoned him with arsenic. the sex has got to be insane.
this is a public domain movie that's embedded in its own wikipedia page, lol, but there are various restorations of varying quality floating around.

The Suwannee Belle is a riverboat constructed in 1985 in Wisconsin by the Lacrosse Riverboat Company. It operated in New York, Alabama, and finally Florida where it offered dinner cruises. It ran aground in 1988 and was officially decommissioned in 1991. It sat in dry storage in New Jersey until being purchased by an investor for $1 in 2003. The boat was moved to Pennsylvania with the intention of dressing it up in a rainforest theme and operating as a restaurant called the Towne Crier Cafe in a small artificial pool. But the scheme went bankrupt before taking off, leaving the Suwannee Belle simply abandoned sitting in a small ditch. It was sold at auction in 2005, and it's current ownership is unknown. In 2006, Connie & Charles Gallagher bought a bar next to the Suwannee Belle and named it the Riverboat Saloon in honor of the boat that had already been left next door. The saloon's website went offline in 2015. A Yelp review from 2018 claimed the saloon was closed, with new ownership planning to reopen later that year. Today, the saloon has an active Facebook page and does seem to be open, though you might think otherwise based upon the state of the signs advertising it and the general appearance of the building. The boat itself has deteriorated seriously in the past few years. The image attributed to Tatyana Jula is from 2010 and shows how much better the boat looked at the time.
Also. All bubble blowin' babies will be beaten senseless by every able-bodied patron in the bar.

Howdy! Just reaching out with a two questions that are tangentially related to each other! Wanted to see if you do commissions and I had a question about resources.
My partner and I do Landsknecht costumes at Ren Faires, I wanna surprise them on (or maybe a few weeks after) Valentine's day of a commission of us in your style in costume! Your art style and familiarity with the period would make it perfect.
I also saw on your Landsknecht character art of Gunnlod[?] (this one https://www.tumblr.com/qsycomplainsalot/tagged/gunnlod) that they had a sweet doglock(?) pistol hanging from their hip. I couldn't quite tell because the mechanism is turned away. I've been meaning to add a Reiterpistole onto the current costume I've got. I was wondering if you had any reference images you use for when you're designing wheellocks/doglocks you could share?
Hey ! I'd say yes for the commission but considering my backlog it wouldn't be ready in time for the 14th of Feb. As far as designing firelock weapons honestly it's just a matter of building up your reference library by looking at museum collections and auction websites, I often just look up stuff as I need it .w.

How To Identify Motivated Sellers For Cash Deals?
Tumblr media
Identifying motivated sellers for cash deals is crucial for securing favorable real estate transactions. Motivated sellers are those who are eager to sell their property quickly, often due to financial difficulties, life changes, or other pressing circumstances. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to identify these sellers and capitalize on cash deals.
Leverage Public Records
Public records are a valuable resource for identifying motivated sellers. Look for properties with:
Tax Delinquencies: Owners who are behind on property taxes might be more willing to sell quickly to avoid further financial complications. Check local tax assessor websites for lists of delinquent properties.
Foreclosures: Properties in foreclosure are often owned by sellers who need to divest quickly. Foreclosure listings are available through local courthouse records or online databases.
Probate: Estates going through probate may involve motivated sellers, especially if heirs wish to sell inherited properties quickly. Probate records can often be accessed through county court websites or local probate courts.
Monitor Expired Listings
Properties that have been listed for sale but did not sell can indicate motivated sellers. These owners may have been unable to sell their property through traditional channels and might be open to cash offers. Review expired listings on real estate platforms and reach out to these owners to gauge their interest in a cash sale.
Network with Real Estate Professionals
Real estate agents, brokers, and property managers can be excellent sources of information about motivated sellers. Establish relationships with these professionals and let them know you are interested in cash deals. They often come across sellers who need to sell quickly and can provide valuable leads.
Direct Mail Campaigns
Direct mail can be an effective way to identify motivated sellers. Create targeted mailing lists based on criteria such as property tax delinquency, absentee ownership, or property condition. Send personalized letters or postcards offering to purchase their property for cash. Highlight the benefits of a quick and hassle-free transaction to attract sellers who need to sell urgently.
Drive for Dollars
“Driving for dollars” involves driving through neighborhoods and looking for signs of distressed properties, such as:
Overgrown Lawns: Indicates potential absentee owners who might be motivated to sell.
Boarded-Up Windows: Suggests properties that may have been abandoned or neglected.
Maintenance Issues: Properties in disrepair could belong to owners who are eager to sell to avoid further expenses.
Once you identify potential properties, research ownership information and contact the owners to discuss a cash offer.
Utilize Online Resources
Online platforms can provide insights into motivated sellers. Additionally, local real estate investment forums and social media groups can be sources of information about sellers who are eager to close a deal quickly.
Engage with Wholesalers
Real estate wholesalers specialize in finding motivated sellers and can be a valuable resource for cash buyers. Build relationships with local wholesalers who have access to properties from sellers in urgent need of cash transactions. Wholesalers can provide you with leads on potential deals before they become widely known.
Attend Foreclosure Auctions
Foreclosure auctions are a direct way to find motivated sellers. Properties being auctioned are typically owned by individuals facing financial hardship. Attending these auctions can give you access to properties where the sellers are looking for quick sales. Be prepared to act quickly and have your cash offer ready to capitalize on these opportunities.
Look for Divorce and Estate Sales
Divorce or estate sales often involve motivated sellers who need to liquidate assets quickly. Monitor local court records or reach out to attorneys specializing in family law or estate planning to identify potential sellers. These situations can often lead to urgent sales where cash offers are appreciated.
Conclusion
Identifying motivated sellers for cash deals involves leveraging various strategies, from utilizing public records and monitoring expired listings to networking with real estate professionals and employing direct mail campaigns. By staying proactive and using these techniques to sell your home for cash you can uncover opportunities for favorable cash transactions and secure profitable real estate deals.

Google Ads Help to Grow Your Buisness
Mastering Google Ads: A Comprehensive Guide
As a leading Digital Marketing Agency with extensive experience in Google Ads, we understand the immense potential this platform offers for businesses of all sizes. Whether you're a small startup or an established enterprise, leveraging Google Ads effectively can be the key to driving growth, increasing brand visibility, and maximizing ROI. In this article, we’ll guide you through the intricacies of Google Ads, from setting up your first campaign to advanced optimization techniques.
1. Introduction to Google Ads
Google Ads is a powerful online advertising platform that allows businesses to reach their target audience through a variety of ad formats. Whether your goal is to generate leads, increase sales, or build brand awareness, Google Ads provides a range of tools and strategies to achieve your objectives.
Tumblr media
2. How Google Ads Works
The Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Model: Google Ads operates on a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) model, meaning you only pay when someone clicks on your ad. This model ensures that your advertising budget is spent on potential customers who are actively interested in your products or services.
Ad Auction Process: Every time a user performs a search, Google Ads runs an auction to determine which ads will appear and in what order. The ad rank is determined by a combination of your bid amount, the quality of your ad, and the expected impact of your ad extensions.
Ad Formats: Google Ads offers a variety of ad formats, including:
Search Ads: Text ads that appear on Google search results pages.
Display Ads: Visual ads that appear on websites within Google’s Display Network.
Video Ads: Ads that appear on YouTube and other video partners.
Shopping Ads: Product-based ads that appear in Google Shopping results.
3. Setting Up a Google Ads Campaign
Tumblr media
Creating an Account: To start using Google Ads, you need to create an account. This involves providing basic information about your business, such as your website and payment details. Once your account is set up, you can begin creating campaigns.
Choosing Campaign Objectives: Google Ads allows you to choose from several campaign objectives, such as Sales, Leads, or Website Traffic. Selecting the right objective is crucial, as it determines how your ads are optimized and where they appear.
Keyword Research and Selection: Effective keyword research is the foundation of a successful Google Ads campaign. Tools like Google’s Keyword Planner can help you identify relevant keywords that your potential customers are searching for. Selecting the right keywords ensures that your ads are shown to the right audience.
Ad Creation and Targeting: Writing compelling ad copy is essential for attracting clicks. Your ads should be clear, concise, and relevant to the user’s search intent. Google Ads also offers extensive targeting options, allowing you to reach your audience based on demographics, location, interests, and more.
Bidding Strategies: Google Ads provides various bidding strategies, including Manual CPC (Cost-Per-Click), Enhanced CPC, and Target CPA (Cost-Per-Acquisition). The choice of strategy depends on your campaign goals and budget. For example, Target CPA is ideal for campaigns focused on generating conversions.
4. Optimizing Google Ads Campaigns
Tracking and Measuring Performance: To assess the effectiveness of your Google Ads campaigns, it's crucial to set up conversion tracking. This allows you to measure actions taken by users after clicking on your ad, such as purchases or sign-ups. Key metrics to monitor include Click-Through Rate (CTR), Conversion Rate, and Quality Score.
A/B Testing: A/B testing, also known as split testing, involves running two or more variations of an ad to see which performs better. This can help you refine your ad copy, headlines, and calls-to-action to improve overall performance.
Budget Management: Effective budget management ensures that you maximize your ad spend without overspending. Google Ads allows you to set daily budgets and adjust them based on campaign performance. Allocating your budget to high-performing campaigns can lead to better results.
Continuous Optimization: Google Ads is not a “set it and forget it” platform. Regularly reviewing and optimizing your campaigns is essential for maintaining and improving performance. This might involve adjusting bids, refining keywords, or updating ad copy based on what’s working best.
5. Common Challenges and How to Overcome Them
High Competition and CPC: In competitive industries, the cost-per-click (CPC) can be high. To compete effectively, focus on improving your Quality Score by creating highly relevant ads and landing pages. Additionally, consider targeting long-tail keywords with less competition.
Ad Fatigue: Over time, users may become less responsive to your ads, a phenomenon known as ad fatigue. To combat this, regularly update your ad creatives and rotate different versions to keep your audience engaged.
Low Click-Through Rates (CTR): If your ads are not receiving enough clicks, it could indicate that they are not resonating with your audience. Improving your ad relevance, crafting stronger calls-to-action, and testing different headlines can help increase CTR.
Budget Management Issues: It’s easy to overspend on Google Ads if you’re not careful. Regularly monitoring your spend and adjusting your budgets based on performance is crucial. Focus on campaigns that deliver the best ROI and reduce spending on underperforming ones.
6. Advanced Google Ads Strategies
Remarketing: Remarketing allows you to target users who have previously visited your website but didn’t convert. By showing them tailored ads as they browse other websites, you can re-engage them and increase the likelihood of conversion.
Using Google Ads Extensions: Ad extensions provide additional information about your business, such as contact details, additional links, or promotional offers. Using extensions can improve your ad’s visibility and performance by making it more informative and appealing to users.
Automated Bidding and Smart Campaigns: Google’s automated bidding strategies use machine learning to optimize your bids in real-time, based on factors like user behavior and conversion history. Smart Campaigns are a fully automated option that can simplify campaign management, especially for small businesses.
Integration with Google Analytics: Linking your Google Ads account with Google Analytics provides deeper insights into user behavior on your website. This data can help you refine your campaigns and improve targeting by understanding how users interact with your site after clicking on your ads.
7. Case Studies and Success Stories
Examples of Successful Google Ads Campaigns: We've seen numerous success stories across various industries where Google Ads played a pivotal role in driving business growth. For instance, a client in the e-commerce sector achieved a 200% increase in online sales within six months by leveraging a combination of Search Ads and remarketing strategies.
What Can Be Learned from Failures: Not every campaign is a success, and there are valuable lessons to be learned from failures. Common pitfalls include poor keyword selection, lack of targeting, and inadequate budget management. Learning from these mistakes can help you avoid them in your future campaigns. So get attach with expertise of Imagency Media Ad Service

8. Future Trends in Google Ads
Automation and AI in Google Ads: The future of Google Ads is increasingly focused on automation and artificial intelligence. These technologies are enabling more precise targeting and bid optimization, allowing advertisers to achieve better results with less manual intervention.
Privacy Concerns and Regulations: As privacy regulations evolve, Google Ads is adapting by offering more privacy-focused solutions. This includes new ways to target users without relying on third-party cookies, ensuring that advertisers can continue to reach their audience while respecting user privacy.

"Digital photograph of Mystic Hippo, taken sometime in 2002"
"After the CPW location and brand was bought by F.E, most of the original CPW animatronics were kept in storage, then sold off in auction, minus 2. These two animatronics were Orville and Mr. Hippo, a duo of circus-themed animals that would be in their own lounge within the building. Orville was repurposed as an attraction within the new Freddy's building, until being thrown out when the location closed, but nothing was known about what happened to Hippo.
In the early 2000's, a fan of the CPW characters had acquired all of the original animatronics, minus Hippo, and went to the internet asking for help to locate the animatronic. After over half a year of searching, the photo above was found in the gallery of the website of an arcade museum near the area of the CPW location.
The story was that when the CPW characters were sold in auction, a hotel owner bought Hippo, and used it as a replacement character in a fortune teller machine. As the original cosmetics were already deteriorated, the character was retrofitted with a crude plastic head, and was redesigned with a stereotypical mystic look, changing the character's gender, voice and name.
The fan got in contact with the museum, and after much negotiation bought the cabinet and the now Mystic Hippo, and has kept it in this state to today. As the story circulated in fan circles, some fans like to headcanon the character as transfeminine."
