shanks, four years younger than mihawk, is usually granted the "starry-eyed crush on the cool older boy" trope (with good reason!), so i was thinking it'd be cute to grant that dubious pleasure to mihawk in an age swap au instead.
mihawk, scrappy nine year old, gets picked up by roger for a trip on the oro jackson to the next island (roger just wants to feed the kid lol), and gets sweet talked into it by dangling a duel with rayleigh, the current world's greatest swordsman, as bait. when mihawk gets there, rayleigh says mihawk has to be able to beat his apprentices first, and gets his ass summarily handed to him by a thirteen year old shanks, who both impresses and embarrasses mihawk, as shanks beats him without even trying but he's so cool when he does it.
and so mihawk declares himself shanks's rival, and when he wins, shanks will have to listen to a request. and years and years later, when mihawk finally does win, that request--which he's never changed his mind about--is permission to start formally courting shanks. charmed, and absolutely having seen this coming after years of observing an obvious crush and slowly warming up to it as mihawk grew and changed between their meetings, laughs and just kisses mihawk straight-up.

Until canon definitively proves otherwise, Tech is off having adventures with Hondo and Phee and there are just, circumstances continuously preventing the three from making it anywhere near Pabu and this is the fanfic I wish to see in the world, even if I have to write it myself-

oh my goodness, dalliance has me absolutely frothing at the mouth. Im so excited to see how you develop this one! The ink handprints was such a fun addition too! I dont know if you plan to bring those back at some point later, but i certainly wouldn't be disappointed if you did.
I'm frothing too!! I'm having so much fun with Dalliance! Just! Shigaraki and Dabi being able to be in public and be disgusting with each other (both in a horny way and eventually in a lovingly horny way) is making me feral! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and I can't wait to keep working on it!
(Maybe the handprints will make a comeback later, we'll have to wait and see!)

My mom just started reading Fox’s Tongue and Kirin’s Bone after I raved to her about it lol.
She’s four pages in and she wants to know if the way people sometimes use the phrase “met death” had anything to do with sparking the idea for this story? (As in, “he met his death walking down king street” or “she met her death in November”)
That is EXACTLY where the initial premise came from. I overthought the phrase one day, and here we are. <3

Waiting Silently for Hours
[Image ID: The silhouette of a young Marik can be seen through the door of a room labeled "Solitary Confinement," while the surrounding white walls are broken and splattered with blood. On the right side, Marik's hair is normal, his hand hanging at his side. From a small blood splatter on the wall, the word "HELLO" is written, though the "O" is smudged out so it appears to simply read "HELL." Below the splatter slumps the corpse of a facility member, blood covering its head and torso. A futuristic rifle lies at its side, spent bullet shells littering the floor. Between the feet of the corpse sits a creepy doll, facing toward it as if in conversation.
On the left side, the silhouette of Yami Marik's fluffy hair and glowing Eye of Anubis can be seen, his hand raised and splayed against the door. Nearly the entire wall on this side is covered in a massive spray of blood. From a puddle on the floor, the word "HELL" is again written in blood.

Bakura: Where's Your Heart That Beats for Me?
Yugi: Single Out the Shadows
Marik: Waiting Silently for Hours
The Nursery in Secret World Legends is a horrible nightmare facility, with plenty of places to put poor Yu-Gi-Oh! kids, via "possessed child" crossover shenanigans. So after I did the screenshot edit with Bakura, I figured I'd go ahead with doing Yugi and Marik, as well. After all, they each fit the "Inhabited Child" experiment.
This door is actually situated in a bright section of the hall just before Yugi's screenshot section. Turn right, and you'd see Yami's shadow trailing across the floor toward you. Turn left to head back the way you came, and you'd find the carefully-curated living space for the children, eventually reaching the eerie doll room Bakura is in.
For those unfamiliar, Sleepless Lullaby is the quoted song—and is the only thing that plays in the Nursery, on loop, as a way to (try to) condition and pacify the kids.
(As you can see, it did not end well for the folks running the facility.)

You’ve done Beauty and the Beast, would you ever write anything else based on another fairytale?
From this ask game!
I absolutely adore Fairytales. My dream would be a bunch of short retellings set in my world, so I can pretend the book pretty much all my chars have actually exists.
(Fun thing: Damien reads to Merry from one like that, Breannan to Caldyn, and Finnian gets one as well xD)
I have one other outlined, for Cinderella, but it's— oh look at that, how time flies, I need to be somewhere.

This part of the editorial from 2099 (pic sourced from this post) is so interesting to me because i don’t even think the idea of Miguel having these kinds of flaws is uninteresting or impossible, but I just personally would never have come to this conclusion just based on the text.
Like, when I personally look at how Miguel and Dana interact, I don’t see any indication that he emotionally condescends to having a relationship with her, when you’d think this strain of elitism should shine through in some part of their relationship at least initially in his arc.
I don’t look at Xina and Miguel’s interactions and interpret any sense him feeling threatened by her intelligence (even if we're just talking purely pre-spidermanning), when you’d think an element of that would be present, even in a flashback. He was a callous dickhead about the cheating explanation, but that alone without some corresponding behaviour to how he speaks to/treats Dana, even just as a flashback, just doesn’t offer the bridging piece to displaying what the authorial intent apparently was, at least for me.
Also, and by god we always come back to Dana’s writing being so damn lazy, but if Miguel - even if only at first - sought Dana out due to the emotional convenience she provided, what has prompted enough change that he is willing to bear and forgive actions like her seeking out the company of the man who drugged him when she wants to needle Miguel.
ALSO. PETER DAVID I AM SPEAKING DIRECTLY INTO YOUR EAR RN. ITS VERY SILLY TO ME TO POINT OUT THE MISOGYNISTIC STREAK INTENDED IN MIGUEL’S ACTIONS HERE BUT THEN LITERALLY JUST NOT BOTHER TO MAKE THE WOMAN THIS IS ABOUT MAKE LIKE. SENSE WHEN YOU WROTE HER. OFFER NO EXPLORATION INTO WHAT HER ACTIONS SPEAK TO IN HER PERSON AND DELVE INTO WHAT CONTRADICTORY ACTS MIGHT TELL US ABOUT HER.
