i doubt this will ever reach the person it's intended for but i do want to point out that lewis very much lost the psychological battle to jenson button. and he did so because jenson was nice. that tall british rodent man (affectionate) showed up at mclaren and was kind and polite to his engineers and mechanics and lewis lost his fucking mind. tweeted out his telemetry. had a full twitter can't believe he unfollowed me i thought we were friends but i guess not meltdown only to realise that jenson never followed him in the first place. got so upset by the team having the audacity to like jenson that he spent an entire year driving into felipe massa. i don't think that would ever happen now, even when he lost to george he didn't give a fuck. but it is important to me that people know lewis has absolutely lost psychological battles before in situations when it was in no way personal. him losing the fight with nico was not just because they'd known each other since they were 12, it was also because lewis is paranoid as fuck and has a history of taking things incredibly personally

zdarsky. so having had some time to sit on and think about batman #147 some more. well, here's the thing. i *do* understand the weaknesses in zdarksy's writing. he does have his favorites. he does have the unfortunate habit of hitting some characters with the stupid stick to make bruce & tim shine. which. i don't love either, it's not a hallmark of great writing. i do wish he would do less of that, & i empathize with the fans of characters who are not doing so hot this story.

however. i do think some of the issues arise from 1) the super expanded cast of characters nowadays means that you do have to pick and choose those who you want to focus on and uplift for the current story being told while everyone else get shafted and 2) i think. well, being a post-crisis fan myself. i think post-crisis as an era of comics spoiled us in a way with tight editorial, focus on shared continuity, and 90% of the titles being written by chuck dixon allowing for characterization and character trait consistency across titles & everyone having their own title to "shine" which allowed them to take a step back and be a supporting character in a different title in a way that overall felt like a less egregious depowering than it *currently* does in today's era: where titles & space to shine are far more limited opportunities for a hugely extended cast of characters and continuity is being held together by the thinnest string of vague references that allow us to pretend that it makes sense that this might be taking place in the same universe as concurrent stories.

because currently the way things are set up, due to the very nature of comics no longer being in their heyday of the 90s where they were selling like hotcakes, is that there's no expectations that you have to buy 10 different titles to get the entire story. there's more focus on "you can just by this one storyline by this one writer and it will stand on it's own and you don't have to read 12 other comics for things to make sense because you won't have really missed anything relevant to the story at hand". which, much like the shared continuity of the 90s, does have pros and cons (pros being that there's far less investment required from the reader, that you're not missing an integral part of the story in another character's line. cons being that there's far less narrative depth & character traits don't have a chance to develop and solidify across multiple titles & an overall smaller universe). but it's just so fundamentally different from how post-crisis was written that it's also a bit hard to truly compare 1:1 (it's also hard to compare completed stories to ongoing one)

because with the limited space with a focus on a contained story. that story has limited space. and so, that story is going to focus on 1 or 2 characters or relationships. and when you're in a bat-only title, well. compared to non-bat titles where the bat character tends to get slotted in the "smartest one in the room" role. the problem is that since they're all so smart together, someone has to get hit with the stupid stick (historically, it has happened to all of them at various different points). and sure tim is being treated extremely well by zdarsky. zdarsky clearly had a lot of love for tim. i would not recommend zdarsky to a non-tim fan. zdarsky's run is also the only title tim is appearing in, so for him to be bolstered up at the others' expense...i get the annoyance, i do. but at the same time it's also the only title tim's got going for him atm, he's allowed to be the specialist boy in it. cass is eating over in 'tec and birds of prey. nightwing has his own title to be the main character of (even if it's not being done well atm). other characters have their own dedicated space. tim is allowed to shine in the only one he's got for the moment.

and as a tim fan. it's funny because i see zdarsky as pulling back hard on "tim drake, boy genius" to instead focus on the other traits i love so much about him. focusing on him as the team up dude, calling back to the early tim and bruce dynamic where tim told bruce what to do and bruce had so much trust and pride in him, calling back to tim's strengths as the guy who coordinates team ups to try and help bruce be less isolated, tim thinking dick is great. his ingenuity and cleverness and hard work over being natural boy genius we've been suffering from. idk. i just. idk. one day zdarksy will be gone and tim will go back in the dungeon. for now i'll take what little i can get.

my greatest flaw is that i would lowkey ship sokka/azula if i wasn’t so convinced that azula is a lesbian. bc just think about it. they’re both these hyper logical calculating masterminds with debilitating perfectionist complexes to hide their perceived worthlessness, so they’re constantly achieving, and while they never feel any real joy in winning, they get actually suicidal the second they fail at anything. they think everyone who can’t keep up with them is some sort of idiot because they refuse to live in a world where they are in fact more intelligent than most people, including the adults around them. they love making the most insufferable puns you’ve ever heard and get offended if no one laughs. they have daddy issues and mommy issues. they share so many of the things they have wrong with them. so like. just imagine how amazingly awful they would be as a couple. they would indisputably make each other worse , but in the most disastrously entertaining way possible.

Mikey and Leo episode centered around Mikey wanting to push Leo and Draxum together since Leo’s the most reluctant to give Draxum any grace (for good reason!) But, thinking on the spot, Leo says he’s gotta go do something for Hueso and “just can’t hang out right now 😔” (yes, he says the emoji out loud.)

Mikey calls his bluff and now the three of them (Mikey having grabbed a weary Draxum along) go to Hueso’s to find that yes, he actually does have a job for him. Said job asks for Leo to go with Hueso to deliver multiple pizzas to this giant yokai quite a distance away, and Hueso figured it would probably go better with Leo’s help (emphasis on probably.)

Well, Mikey decides that this would be a great bonding opportunity for them and basically invites he and Draxum along. Unfortunately for Leo, Hueso doesn’t care enough to wave away more help, though he does side-eye the wanted criminal Baron Draxum coming with them. But who is he to judge? (This choice has consequences.)

The journey goes about as terribly as you’d expect, but at least the pizzas get delivered on time.

SORRY MY BRAINROT IS INTENSE, to try to resolve this im going to write a little something! it's obvious dream (i might just use utmv names for the sake of my terrible memory) is the founder and top dog at justice reigns, i know ink is his mercenary and is the only one to take direct orders from him, but where does that place finch? is he above ink at 2nd or under ink at 3rd? if you have the time, could you maybe explain briefly what they think of eachother? moreso ink & finch and dream & ink for the sake of my plot, they'll be interacting and i want it to be as accurate as possible

ok so, first off, ink isn't the only one to take direct orders from dream, if I said that in the past it may have been a mistake. (who the heck is getting orders from dream if only ink is taking orders from him hahaha) ink, for the most part, only takes direct orders from dream, not is the only one who does. for his status, ink is not part of the hierarchy in JR; he doesn't have the authority to give anyone orders. if dream tells ink to take orders from the justice division, he has to take orders from the justice division, but the justice division doesn't have power over ink by default. if JR has a hard or specific mission, they might send ink. (I feel like it would make sense for there to be more JR mercenaries than just ink. but it's a little late to contemplate changes to the lore)

finch is an officer of the justice division, but I don't know what exactly his status is supposed to be. I've said he's a captain before, but I feel like it only makes sense if he's 31, aka his fatal flaws age. so, take with that what you will. he could be young at 24 and be far ahead for his age but not in a position of full authority (think: a senior who gets put in charge of a smaller group, not the guy who goes to meetings) or he could be 31 and be a captain. that aside, I imagine that finch and ink don't really talk on a casual basis. their impressions of each other are probably limited to "that guy again," while passing each other in the hallway and likely some awkward small talk. they probably have worked together a few times and finch probably thinks that ink is too irresponsible and doesn't fully understand why ink works such an important job. (because he gets it done, somehow) they're kind of polar opposites. which does leave some room for an interesting dynamic if you think it's interesting.

as for whatever ink and dream have going on, they're kind of friends even though they're technically not supposed to be. in ds there is a tangible barrier of authority and power that would be difficult to overcome. not impossible, but difficult. they do still kind of have that "you're just my boss" relationship in fatal flaws which creates a little distance, but I think they could become friends more easily there because arthur isn't immortal and hasn't used any godlike power to gain a following.

And a trope I Hate is forced humanization, in general. If a non human character is supposed to become connected to humankind, then fine. It's not atrocious on it's own. I don't care.

What I do care about is when they're belittled for not being "human enough" in a "weird way". Like, yeah, maybe the alien that doesn't celebrate birthdays is strange to the protagonist. They don't have to call them out on it. The alien doesn't have to be seen at the end celebrating their birthday to solidify how human they've become.

If you want it to happen have it happen gradually. Have them become curious about it, and find out they actually like the customs they're not used to yet. Aliens finding pleasure in a playground, monsters enjoying food they'd never gotten to taste before, and robots discovering they genuinely like watching TV. Whatever!

Just work around their differences, make it be gradual, and not born from the main, human cast making fun of them or pointing out how weird they are for not liking X thing. And for the love of god, don't make "Becoming Human uwu" the center of their story. It's so... Heartbreaking. Bleak, even.
