You sigh, continuing your reluctant balance. Palm against the grass, you balance upside down on a single arm. What the hell could this possibly improve? Your circus act?

Anakin had said it was a common way to learn to multitask with the Force, using it to up your strength and remain balanced whilst completing other tasks, such as throwing and pulling objects with your mind. Which was easy enough, until he made you deflect blaster shots with you saber while in the same position. Would he ever let up?

After all, in what situation would you be using your saber while stuck upside down? It was useless, you determined, but couldn't find yourself fighting with him. Instead, you frown, replying to him with an attitude.

If it was your goal to infuriate your master constantly, you've succeeded. Anakin despised you. Anyone he could find within the temple willing to listen had heard his rants.

You're rude — impulsive — arrogant — inept — and most infuriatingly, everyone seems to adore you. Whether it be the Jedi masters, your fellow padawans, or even the younglings, you've managed to deceive them all into believing you're heaven-sent. Obi-Wan especially.

It turns out Anakin’s old teacher was good friends with your late master when young. Which in turn, made Obi-Wan love you dearly. You'd share stories of the man over dinner, laughing while Anakin watches from a distance, seething.

Sure, it was childish, but what could he say?

Hatred was in his bones, and you were his sole focus lately. Every thought was about you, loathing the fact he’d have to see you again, to train you. He’d push you to your very limit to try and gain a semblance of control, when he knew deep down; there was no controlling himself.

Which was why his gazes lingered, his words carried deeper emotion, his touch… reverent. Anakin was determined to pretend he didn’t notice — he didn’t, he was sure. And if he did? It meant nothing. There’s nothing he despises more than you, he’d say. He knew it was an overcompensation. After all, you’re an inherently good person; a Jedi in training, beloved by children and animals. There was nothing about you other than some personality quirks that was truly terrible. So.. why?

As Anakin continues your training, he decides not to think of it anymore. He’d deflect his emotions by yelling at you, harshly scolding, and picking you apart for the tiniest of flaws. What bothered him the most was your indifference. You’d sigh, scoff, roll your eyes, but never took it to heart. You truly didn’t care, seemingly a simple annoyance at his actions but you never felt hurt. As if he didn’t matter to you.

How couldn’t he? He’s Anakin Skywalker, a general, a Jedi master, extremely talented and handsome. Why don’t you care? Now, Anakin isn’t a vain man. Looks don’t matter to him, and he’d never truly cared about his appearance.

But you should.

You should feel nervous around him, fearful of his disappointment. Anxious of whether he likes you or not. He doesn’t, but he wants you to hope so. You should do everything in your power to prove yourself to him, beg him for approval. So why don’t you care?

Anakin kicks your feet into proper placement, as you squabble with another padawan. He notices the boy’s master is kind and instructing, guiding his hand while Anakin forces yours. He notices you gaze to the Jedi longingly, as if you wanted a master like that. Anakin scowls and closes his eyes, keeping his calm. How could you possibly want anyone else? You have a legend training you, you’re the luckiest girl in the temple.

He’s the unlucky one, with such an annoying padawan. You shouldn’t desire anyone other than him, he’s the best master you could hope for. Obi-Wan Kenobi himself picked Anakin out for you, which must mean something. Yet, it seemingly means nothing to you.

Anakin watches as you spar with the padawan boy, your skill exceeding his. Anakin chooses to believe it’s because of him, not your work ethic; or lack thereof .

Shortly after the start, you win. Obviously. This boy had no skill, Anakin could see that much. He felt a strange sense of pride watching his padawan prevail, but tried to ignore it.

Not long passes when the two of you silently eat lunch on the same bench you’d gone out to the last time you’d entered the gardens. You sat with clear space between you and your master, something he didn’t complain about. You hadn’t dwelled on it much, but wondered why Anakin had remembered what you like to eat for lunch and packed it for you.

Chewing on it quietly, you swallow and speak, “Did I do good today?” You ask, gaze still fixed ahead on the rows of flowers before you, looking to your favorites. You were curious to know what he thought of your performance today, and hadn’t hesitated to ask. Nor did you hesitate to assume his answer would be a quick, sharp no.

But, as he always does, he proves you wrong.

“You did fine. The boy wasn’t much of a threat. Yet, your form was… fine.” He’d said, which, coming from him, was probably the best compliment you’d get. You’re surprised, still not meeting his gaze, as you let out a breath and close your eyes, with a small smile.

“Thanks, Master.”

The days passed slowly, becoming weeks of you training under Anakin. The two of you had mutually decided to try and come to a common ground, (attempting) to leave the bickering in the past and remaining cordial. Your days of training now filled with learning rather than excruciating work and insults. You’re not friends by any means, and he certainly isn’t nice to you, but it’s better than before.

The hours of your days are spent mostly sparring with your master, but you managed to surprisingly make a new friend inbetween training. All times of eating and any breaks you might get were spent with Caleb — a fellow padawan a couple years younger than you, whom you would spar with as a means of his own training.

You found it fulfilling to help out a younger acquaintance, liking his company — he’s a nice guy, after all.

Unfortunately for the two of you, you master began to notice your absence when not training. He could never find you around your usual spots in the temple; hell, you weren’t even chatting with Obi-Wan as much anymore. What had taken you attention so vehemently?

Then, he saw you two.

…Oh.

His eyes land upon you sitting with a young padawan boy, probably around your age. Cross legged as if meditating, but instead, laughing and goofing off together.

Anakin had spent hours looking for you… and this was what he gets in return? Oh, he sees how it is. He understands now.

Why you’re distracted while training, trying to get things done so you can leave to spend time with some boy. What were you thinking? Were you truly as stupid as Anakin always thought you were? What could you possibly want him around for?

Anakin knew the boy; he was Master Billaba’s padawan. What could possibly be so interesting about him that you couldn’t find with your master? Anakin was a smart man, he had much he could teach you. But Caleb? That… padawan? Why would you choose someone of such a lower status as opposed to the Jedi Master who spends every day with you?

He wasn’t sure why, but Anakin could feel his chest tighten at the sight. Your eyes closed, with an open mouthed grin as heavy laughs erupt from within you. Anakin had never made you laugh; what did he say that was so funny?

If Anakin knew your laugh sounded like that, he’d have tried to be funnier a lot sooner.

He would’ve approached you, reprimanded you for screwing around when you should be training, but Anakin thought it beneath him. He shouldn’t be begging you to come back to him, you should be begging him for forgiveness. That was the way this relationship worked after all. Even if you didn’t know — yet.

You will.

The days following became harder to manage.

Anakin’s attitude has worsened further than ever before, and you’re unsure of what you’ve done. You even tried to speak with Obi-Wan, but he was at a loss, too. You’d obeyed Anakin’s every order, followed his training to a tee, so what had you done to him?

Every response from the man was bitter, sharp with an edge of venom. He was back to roughly training you, in a way that had made a fellow Jedi Master concerned when he’d accidentally walked by. You felt like you were being bullied by the man, for something you didn’t understand.

You didn’t understand how he lay awake at night, waiting for you to beg for forgiveness — something that never came, which only made him more upset each passing day.

Luckily, you were quite the tough padawan. You didn’t complain about his harsh treatment anymore, resorting to taking it in stride and hoping it was all a plot to make you even better. It was not.

It was until Obi-Wan had reprimanded his former padawan for this behavior when it staggered a bit, as Anakin felt guilty for it. He just… didn’t know how to control his emotions; he never did.

One day you’d pointed out how he let up on you and you were curious as to why. This whole time Anakin had thought you were the one who told Obi-Wan about it, but alas, no. He was confused.

“Obi-Wan said I was being too harsh.” He says, simply.

You scrunch your nose in confusion, “Well, yeah… but wasn’t that the point?”

You truly couldn’t tell the deep running emotion behind his actions? What exactly had happened to make him that way? You really thought it was all a training regimen?

“Well… I suppose it was,” Anakin began, not wanting to explain the truth; he’d die before being honest, “but Obi-Wan told me to stop.”

Despite what Anakin thought of you, you in turn shrugged nonchalantly, “If it makes me a better Jedi, I’d prefer you continue that way. Maybe just speak nicer to me, though.” You say casually.

For a moment, Anakin dismissed it entirely. Why would he purposely put you through intense and painful work outs and squabbles when you’d done nothing (on purpose, that is,) to deserve it? Then, he thought… he couldn’t help himself, but for a second, he liked the idea that you could take it.

He looked to you, not speaking as he thought. Should he continue the training for his own perverted purposes? Besides… maybe a few bruises would look pretty on you.

Pink Dolphin merman Riddle Rosehearts au

I've been seeing a lot of merman TWST aus recently and I wanted to make one too! I've been with the merman Riddle idea in my head for a while and I decided to make an AU with him as the focus. I could have just went with the goldfish thing and make my life easier? Absolutely. But I wanted to incorporate something that would make Riddle's deslike to the nickname "Goldfishes" make sense, so I decided he'd be a different species.

Here's some lore on what changed in this AU + Riddle as a calf

(written in a very simple way because I'm lazy)

We already have merman on the story, but they are all from the coral sea, and since the Pink Dolphin is from fresh water, I decided to make some alterations on the world's map, I don't have pics of how it would be like, but there would be 2 gigant rivers (like the Amazon or maybe bigger) around the world and a few big ones. In those rivers there'd be small communities of freshwater merfolks, and one of them just happened to be in the Queendom of Roses, where Riddle was born.

His mom wanted to have a more stable life, so she decided to go out of the river and go to the big cities on land, she meet and feel in love with one of her colleagues in her job and they got married, they had riddle and she decided to raise him in land, just occasionally going back to her hometown in the river from time to time, usually in family events where she would brag about what she accomplished to the rest of the family and blah blah blah.

Yes, that's my excuse to why riddle lived in land and not in the river with the rest of merfolk and how he managed to be Trey and Che'nya's childhood friend.

And here's Riddle as a calf! He's already got some scars from bumping into places and in his hands specially because of his mom making him study a lot and it hurts his little hand to write so much.

I chose the red Amazon river dolphin because I love them, they are really cute and I wish they'd have more attention.

I made some research here about their anatomy to make him look more like the actual animal, I'm no biology major though so Idk if there's any wrong info

I had to mark the other subspecies because I was getting confused and didn't want to use the wrong info.

Sae Niijima is such a good character it drives me insane a little. She's not a mother nor a maternal or doting older sister but instead a twenty four year old who was thrown into a position of responsibility that she never asked for. She loves Makoto just as much as she resents her and its so apparent every time they talk up until November. "Are you studying?" (I want you to do well) (I need you to get a job and stop making my life harder) "I'll use any method necessary to get this promotion" (Life will be easier for us) (So stop distracting me with your problems) "Focus on your future" (I know that you're capable) (I can't afford to waste my time on you, so stop wasting time on others)

Makoto is not only the sole reason she pushes as hard as she does for a promotion, for success, and the reason that she loses herself in her animosity over her fathers death, but also someone she can't stand for so long. Makoto was 14-15 when their father died. Sae was 21. As soon as she got the career she wanted and things started to look up, her stability was robbed from her and she was disillusioned with the system that her father had taught her to rely on and completely adhere to. How do you manage, the daughter of a cop, following his footsteps towards law enforcement, when you're suddenly reminded of how unfair it is? You can't quit, your little sister relies on you and she's so young and struggling just as badly with this grief. So you pick yourself up and you get moving again. You push harder, press further. You abandon your morals and your ethics because punishing criminals (guilty or not) is almost like punishing the man who killed your father.

And the whole time she's fighting for promotions, going for drinks with the SIU Director to make herself more favourable for promotions, trying to navigate being a woman in a competitive, suffocating, male-dominated field, falling behind despite doing so much where others are promoted for doing so little - all the while your little sister comes back from school and her biggest issues are so small compared to yours.

Persona 5 revolves so heavily around grief and loss and change and Sae embodies all of that so well, all of the sharp and unpleasant and jagged parts of grief.

I have very specific thoughts about Bruce's 'childhood' and how he tried to do things differently with Dick than what happened with him because of how badly it affected him. He knows what it's like to have everything change so fast and to be so angry but too young to actually do anything about it.

I can see him making sure Dick doesn't get too close of a look at his parents because Bruce remembers being stuck with his parent's corpses until the police got there, all alone with no other way to call for help than screaming. I can see him hiding Dick from the flashing cameras and hiding any newspapers about the 'story' so that Dick doesn't have to see how the press spins everything. Bruce has that picture of himself sitting shellshocked from the ambulance on the front page and he knows how violating that felt, how publicized his trauma was, even if he can't completely prevent it for Dick he can do his best to make it hurt less.

Bruce suffered being helpless for years, being so angry at Gotham and the world and not having a good outlet for it, he had no control over anything that was happening with him, so with DIck he knows how important being Robin became because he knows how becoming Batman felt for him. Bruce got into fights because he couldn't hold his anger in and had to turn that anger inward in fear that Alfred would get sick of him and leave too. Robin was a productive outlet, even if it was a dangerous one, but who knows what would've happened to him if he didn't have it? He already got that taste of freedom and feeling like his intervention could actually make a difference that Bruce took years and years of stewing in trauma to find.

The most important thing to Bruce is that Dick doesn't become another Batman.

Little idle thought I've been having recently but I think Cyparissus' story is very important for characterising Apollo and Apollo's love. It's so easy to think of love and loss as two ends of a spectrum, likewise, so often, death is seen as an ultimate and tragic end in love stories - something final and inescapably tragic, the only force that halts love by separating the lovers.

Cyparissus' story is... not that. Yes, the deer dies and one can conclude then that death is once more at the heart of separating two lovers, but I think Cyparissus specifically requesting to die, specifically begging Apollo to let him grieve forever even after Apollo has done his best to help Cyparissus move on from the accident and Apollo letting him is a powerful thing.

Because Apollo not only puts Cyparissus' wishes over his own, he's also able to see past his own building grief to immortalise Cyparissus in such a way that both grants him his wish and allows other people to glorify Cyparissus as well! And I think such a beautiful thing is something criminally overlooked!

It's become something of a joke that 'all Apollo's lovers turn into plants' but from a functional perspective, flowers are the most brilliant way to keep the spirit of a beloved thing alive. Flowers are like stars - as long as there are humans, humans will always contemplate the nature of flowers and as the god of poetry and song, Apollo creating opportunities for his beloved mortals to be remembered eternally even if they never seized glory in the traditional way is such an intimate and beautiful thing. Even then, Cyparissus is elevated to a similar status as Daphne with Apollo's actions - not merely a plant or flower but one that specifically symbolises him, one that is extremely fragrant and beloved by him. Just as Daphne's laurels were synonymous with glory and victory, Cyparissus' cypress became a emblematic of grief and remembrance. Even today, thousands of years later, people still view cypress trees as mourning trees and plant them in cemeteries and use the ash in incense burnt in remembrance of others. How's that for Apollo keeping his word.

Idk why there's disbelief over Mark S/Helly in terms of motivation. Helly is just as capable of cruelty and selfishness as Helena. They are at the core of it, the same person with different memories/experiences. They can be two perspectives worthy of indulging their own dreams and desires and also be the same person. Narratively here especially, this isn't about morality, it's about human nature.

Helly was never cruel, sure, of course. Helly felt like she was the same as the other people in MDR. But Helly has something right now that she never even achieved as Helena. Someone who loves her. Someone who is choosing her. Helly is Winning over Helena here.

Jame Eagen wanders down just to be a freak and reinforces the reality of it. Helly is "More" than Helena, hasn't been worn down by the weight of experience and the world (and their cult and corporate bullshit). She still has, in some way, the innocence of youth and lack of experience with the world. She doesn't have the same fears and burdens or triggers as Helena in her conscious experience. She still has the ability to express her passions and outrage and defend herself. And to love and not feel sorry for it.

Severance gave Helena a chance to exist without the learned perspectives and burdens of the Eagens and she is able to be free with herself and her passions and desires-- whereas Helena was likely drained of any dreams for potential beyond a strictly guided future decades ago.

Of course Helly is feeling a rush of joy and satisfaction over Mark loving her. Mark choosing her. She tried to do the "right thing" by being logical with Mark. "I'm her." Even outside of Lumon, if they bring it all down, there's no hope for an Eagen and an ex-severed employee in reality. In the Real World they will never be together. Mark couldn't love Helena, how could anyone love an Eagen? (Poor Helly really with like, the enemy is within etc, but that's kinda the situation framed by Lumon for everyone by setting the stage with your Innie isn't human kinda rhetoric.) (This was also reinforced by Helena trying to get close to Mark to see if he still had feelings or chemistry with her and finding out they were not going to work outside Lumon.)

What if the equator is a building that could be a continent? Can be their whole world? They're choosing to live Now. Together in the present despite knowing that with their half lives, they could be brought to an end at any moment. It's very willful young love of them. And why wouldn't it be? This is their First Love. They haven't even been "alive" that long or have any memory of romance beyond their current infatuation. They don't know the world or it's places, and maybe that's okay, maybe they can exist in this space so long as they have love and the others.

It's completely human for Helly to accept Mark choosing her. To run to him just to see him for maybe the last time. It's human for Mark S to run to Helly. It's human for poor Gemma, who doesn't even know her fucking husband is severed, to be pounding on the door.

But this is their Final Day to Mark and Helly. Maybe the very end of their world. It's Judgement Day. Of course they'd have them holding hands and running back to the unknown to face the end together. To die together.

There is also zero fucking chance Mark Scout would risk his life and brain continuing reintegration once his wife is back. Mark Scout is going to choose his wife. Mark is choosing Love on both sides here.

All of it is reasonable.

The least favorite character ask made me giggle a bit, "This character that appeared for a single episode is actually pretty cool. And this character is really awesome in this particular context. But ALSO I really like this character with very little actual screentime."

You‘re absolutely right though! Characters whose only purpose is to fill a particular role are chosen really well too! Like the Host Girl; sure, she doesn’t really have a personality or anything, but she doesn’t NEED to have one. As you said, she‘s collateral damage. She gives us more insight to Wukong, she shows us just how ruthless he can be. He‘s willing to kill the epitome of innocence: A child. A defenseless little girl with a cutesy voice, who was just in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

(It‘s also worth a mention that, contrary to Wukong, she revealed a softer side of Macaque. Not to the extent the fandom built it up, but in an arguably more meaningful way. He‘s worried/feels bad for a total stranger. Even if it was only a concerned look, she once again gave us a deeper insight to a member of the main cast.)

And the characters with less focus either have really genuine interactions (Yellow Tusk with Azure) that just endear you to them, or they drop a banger line (like the Jade Emperor) before their purpose is fulfilled.

And you're also totally right! There isn't anything wrong with characters that are there just to function as plot devices. Sometimes a child is there just to be a child, and that's all they need to be. I think I feel this way about Megapolis (a name for the city that hasn't even been mentioned in show). Like it's a city filled with innocent people, it's MK & the Gang's home, and that's all it kinda needs to be tbh. LMK has to be extremely tight with what it chooses to focus on because of time constraints, and it does that well. When it comes down to it, focusing on the characters/plot is more important than focusing on the setting (which I think debatably wouldn't contribute much anyways—like we don't need more of a reason to care about the city, you know?).

I have this same opinion when it comes to the Demon Bull Family, which may be an unpopular take, but the truth is that a lot of their development happened off-screen. After ROTSQ and until we see them again in 3x06, it's clear that there have been positive changes between Red Son and his parents. I think I've seen some folk want Red Son to cut off his parents entirely, but that kinda goes against the core of his character. Part of Red Son's appeal for me is his complete devotion to his family despite their flaws (saving them in ROTSQ and EYD, attempting to save them in 4x09). Red Son and Princess Iron Fan only ever wanted world domination because that's what DBK wanted, and after that failed—they gave up. They hit the bricks. Red Son then started a food business with his dad (jealous of MK and Pigsy's noodle shop mayhaps?), and I think it's telling that DBK would even agree to do that to begin with. DBK and PIF's disregard of Red Son may not be acknowledged in the way people want, and I get that, but it's not that it didn't happen. I'd say there's another jump in their development between the end of 3x14 and the beginning of 4x09, where the fact that DBK calls out for Red Son as he gets taken away shows a closeness between them that we hadn't seen before. It's also clear that DBK has grown past the person who only wanted to create the world in his own image, chastising Azure Lion:

DBK, unlike plenty of other antagonists in LMK (Spider Queen, LBD, and Azure specifically), learned to stop and accept the world as it was. He failed as a conqueror, but he still had his family, and he could try and not fail as a father for his "half-baked son"—or that's how I interpret DBK anyhow.

((I also want to bring up the fact that DBK didn't dare use the Samadhi Fire ring he had to power himself up with Red Son's furnace in AHIB. Like, even the Mr. Bull King has some restraint—there are prices too great to pay for the world, hence why he gave up on world domination after 1x10, when he almost killed his wife and son.))

To me it makes the Demon Bull Family feel like characters that exist outside of MK & the Gang, and can grow/change even when they're not on screen with our main characters, and I think that's cool. We also legitimately didn't have time for anything else.

Not having new linear games post 5 its judt that sims 4 wasnt even supposed to Be The Sims 4 it was a last minute pivot and the base code is so outdated and was broken On launch so like. i just wish we could have the final actual sims game be like. one that was always intented to be a major sims release AND be intended to be so long term . yk
