Legendary Godzilla is so fucking funny to me because like. You start out with the 2014 movie. Very restrained. Relatively slow pace. Limited godzilla screentime, they really want you to relish every moment he's there, and it delivers. Godzilla is fucking huge, looks and moves like something that size would, looks impressive, you get a good sense of scale. He's minimally personified, just showing occasional moments of pain. Feels like a force of nature. Very cool, thoughtfully designed monsters. Takes itself fairly seriously, with a little bit of humor. Nothing groundbreaking but a pretty solid movie.
Fast forward 10 years later. Godzilla x Kong. Monsters beating the shit out of each other every moment of screentime. There's a freakish Kong baby. Kong has a giant robot fist that can cure severe frostbite. Giant apes swinging bone whips. Historical monuments being destroyed worldwide left and right. Everything moves at a lightning pace to the point you get mildly surprised when visually reminded that these are absolute colossal monsters. Giant monsters laughing and taunting each other and making silly faces. 80s music nostalgia bait every 5 minutes. Doesn't know when to end a joke. Godzilla has a snatched waist and can jog for some reason. Restraint is not a concept. Genuinely one of the stupidest things I've ever watched in my entire life. I am in awe.
#I mean I love stupid ass movies but I think godzilla VS kong hit the sweet spot of being dumb as fuck while not QUITE feeling like#I'm a baby having shiny car keys jangled at me for the entire runtime (though it was close)#I really do like the 2014 movie on a lot of its own merits and in large part because the MUTOs are so fucking cool#Like it's a really sleek/interesting/thoughtful design and not just 'cool monster with spiky shit all over it'#I like how they behave like animals and little bits of them like nuzzling each other while exchanging a nuclear bomb as a nuptial#gift was really cool.#Human protagonist was boring as fuckkk and they really should have gotten Bryan Cranston for all of it instead (and I was of this opinion#before ever seeing BRBA.) But it's not all marvel witty quip dialogue so that's something

my hater moment about marvel designs is that female superheroes are overwhelmingly young. and also other things but thats a big one.
#txt#extremely rambly and disorganized thoughts ahead. apologies.#maybe i should not be speaking on this since my favourite superhero medias are ones that are satirical of superheros#ie the watchmen & the tick. particularly because i have problems w superheroes as a whole#in that theyre either used to reinforce a national image or promote punitive & reactionary measures against crime#my only exception is batman beyond <3 <3 <3#so fair warning this is coming from someone who has a lot of problems with superheroes. particularly marvel#but i'm just of the opinion that a lot of marvel designs are just... not good...#the emma frost rivals design is really bad ok. Sorry. they dont need three blonde women with white suits and blue accents.#do u know how many times i confused dagger w invisiwoman. and now Shes here too.#but aside from a gameplay perspective. none of her elements look Good to me. she doesnt read as high fashion. the bob looks dumb sorry#and i am tired of the continued objectification of women in superhero media. like the thigh and breast jiggle physics for emma frost.#or how 95% of the women have the same face and body.#and they all look like they're in their 20s. but the men get to look old.#btw if i'm to be a bigger hater outside of just rivals its that i have seen One emma frost design i actually like.#i have very particular tastes about character design. and i'm aware i'm picky. but#superhero designs leaning more into making sure they're read as superheroes as opposed to reading as The Character kind of pisses me off#for some i think it really works. like spiderman. but others i wish theyd be a little more creative#and not just try to reinforce to the audience that This is a superhero!#like i hate captain america as a concept but some of his designs are dumb as fuck too. why is the supersoldier wearing spandex#why are some of the looks for the high fashion superhero so Boring. why does the weather goddess just wear a basic suit and cape.#anyways. this is all to say i believe that emma frost should be an old drag queen or some other sort of diva in her 50s.

Potentially unpopular opinion but I like that Obsidian just doesn't want to do romance. Like. Good! I feel like a lot of RPGs shoehorn in that shit for no reason other than because it's popular, and I respect that they're just not really about that as a developer. I remember AssCreed Odyssey and Valhalla had "romances" but in reality you could just fuck some rando once and that's it. But it was still like oh a big deal. You can "romance" people.
On the other side of that equation you have games like BG3 and Veilguard who are like. Yes we have romances. We have so much romances. Look at all your companions! Aren't they all so fuckable? We've made sure they're all conventionally attractive btw. Everyone's tall and hot and sexy. So you can fuck them. Most of the character development is locked behind fucking them.
BG3 was particularly bad about this cuz they all. God they all looked so generically hot. Like I'm sorry but the fuckability of the BG3 companions worked directly against making them interesting designs.
Obsidian went "nah no romance. Here's a horny old lady furry. She's hot pink and talks about having sex with a guy who isn't you. Here's a grumpy dwarf who hates you. Kai is bald and has fucked up shark teeth. Also his dead boyfriend will act as a posthumous cockblock. Giatta is the one conventionally beautiful companion and you cannot have sex with her either." And like. My one complaint is that I would've loved to see more companions, but the ones I have feel like an actual ragtag group of adventurers. Instead of like. A collection of hotties cunting it up in tight pants and perfectly tousled hair. Ya know? That's fun too I guess but it gets kinda. Boring. It's like the cast of your average Marvel movie. I just wanna see some normal guys sometimes. Imagine the Envoy's mental state if they had to deal with 4 really hot people all the time while having mushrooms growing out of their face. Cruel and unusual punishment.

Charles Dance/Yeston & Kopit Concept Makeup
Phantom Cosplay & Makeup Application: @phantomonabudget
Prosthetic: @dyadmufx
This is my first interpretation of what Erik (The Phantom) might have looked like in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of the Yeston and Kopit stage show. This version is quite famous for never showing Erik's face. Instead, we are left with only clues to his actual appearance. I imagine that decision was made as often the imagination can co.e up with far worse possibilities than whatever they would have out on camera. Still...it's fun to try.
Makeup Design
There are few clues or hints in the movie to build upon. We know the eyes are sunken in due to the eye shadow applied to the actor, Charles Dance. We know that the mouth, jaw, and skin around the edge of the face appear to be unaffected. And when pressed about his appearance, Erik says only: "I have no face. I have only the semblance of a face...and no one should have to look at it."
So...not exactly descriptive, and leaves a lot of room for interpretation.
Given the visual clues (or lack thereof), we know the middle of the face is the only area affected and it is completely covered by the mask. I chose to use a beautiful, foam latex base prosthetic appliance by DYAD FX. I kept the skin tone similar to that of the mouth and around the face, but carefully and thinly layered colors from my alcohol activated pallettes to give the effect of a very thin, pinkish tone to the area. I painted in veining to further the effect of the thinned out skin.
...No Nose??
I wanted to give the illusion of not having a nose (or at least that he was losing his). This is certainly the holy grail of Phantom visual design for most Phans, as we have truly only seen one makeup design faithful to the original Gaston Leroux novel...and that was Lon Chaney nearly 100 years ago! So I wanted to try to incorporate that element into this design.
However, it is impossible to eliminate the nose using makeup alone, as effects makeup is additive, not subtractive. Meaning, we add things like prosthetic appliances to the skin to create an effect, but can't take away what the person naturally has. Any time you see a missing nose in film and TV, it is removed using visual/digital effects (VFX). Oftentimes, VFX compliments a prosthetic effects makeup design (like Red Skull in the Marvel movies). It is possible to hide the nose under surrounding prosthetics, but in my opinion, that is usually not successful for realism. Adding more material under/around the nose makes the end result look more simian (ape-like) than just a human without a nose.
To allude to this effect, I instead painted the majority of my nose dark to appear like a cavity, and left the tip of the nose. I felt it gave a better and more realistic overall look. It simply suggests the nose is missing (or soon to be completely missing) instead of trying to physically bury the nose in a ton of material.
Overall, I'm happy with this first attempt but can already think of changes I'd like to make. I enjoyed this and look forward to doing more interpretations of classic Phantoms, to include a Gaston Leroux concept makeup in the near future!

TAPE 006 ᯓ★

"I've never had a guy take me out before."

in which citygirl!pogue!reader is a bit stunned when her boyfriend takes her out to a high end for their first date night as a couple.
-
BF!Rafe and CITYGIRL!KOOK!reader
Lights of the city blur into one down the bustling road in Charlotte, North Carolina. You're sat in the front passenger seat of your new boyfriend's F150, watching everything fly past you out the window. You dressed as nice as you could for the occasion when Rafe had first texted you about, pretty with an Alice mini dress, sparkling in a captivating silver, fit around your curves. It was a foreign feeling, being taken out on a date.
You've never had the luxury of the experience, you were used to having the bad end of the stick, taking people out and then having them ditch you months later, it was a pattern you'd grown annoyed of and it had given you reason to doubt any advances that'd come your way.
Not with Rafe Cameron though.
For some reason, Rafe Cameron had made it through to you and actually seemed to be treating you right.
You were quiet, white French tips gently tapping along the edge of the window, gazing outside. After a bit, you heard a voice.
"You've been awfully quiet since we got in here, princess," Rafe's almost slurry sounding voice settled into your ears, and you turned around, your free hand mindlessly caressing the perfect ends of your straightened hair, "Oh, I was just..admiring the view outside," You answered, calm. Rafe looked handsome, all fancy with a navy blue blazer, open to a slightly unbuttoned white silk dress shirt beneath, and those nice designer dress pants you'd chose with him when you went shopping last week.
He looked good and put together. Unlike your past situationships.
Rafe gave a low hum to your answer, processing it, "S'a uh..high end, 'know you're probably used to all that, but-" before he could continue, you interrupted. "No, it's fine Rafe, really..I'm," you paused, hesitating on whether or not to really voice out your honest opinion, but if you were going to date Rafe, then you might aswell start getting comfortable with speaking on your thoughts, "I'm actually not used to this, you know? All the guys I've tried dating, they've never really taken me out, this is a first." You shrugged, hands crossed with the metal chain of your mini silver purse between your body and bicep.
Rafe's eyes squinted at that, a bit stunned as he glanced at you through the corner of his eye, "Seriously?" He sounded like he was offended with the notion. You nodded, and Rafe scoffed, "Guess it's reasonable t'not date if y'got guys like that tryna make ya there's."
You watched as Rafe's hand smoothly turned the wheel of the truck, and pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant. You couldn't help but marvel in your mind; it looked, lavish. Rafe found a spot, though there wasn't many full ones, parking expertly before pulling the gearshift into park and killing the engine. He got out of the car, moving to your side and opening the door for you.
Really, it did confuse you greatly and it showed on the dumbfounded expression on your face. Rafe stared right back at you and after an uncomfortably long time, his brow furrowed in genuine confusion.
"You okay, or-"
"What?" You interrupted, and blinked, long, mascara coated lashes fluttering before you realized, "Oh! Sorry, I.." You laughed anxiously, before you got out of the car, the ends of your black stilettos hitting pavement, "Thank you."
Rafe nodded while he closed the door, a hand slipping to intertwine his fingers with yours. It was a quiet walk to the front of the restaurant, and once you stepped through - you couldn't help but let your eyes widen. The place was gorgeous, it really reminded you of the Palace of Versailles, just in a black to white scaled modern thematic.
Your ears didn't catch on Rafe's conversation with a waitress who'd come to assist you to for you reservation, simply looking around like you'd just seen the world for the first time ever. Your feet were moving, presumably Rafe guiding you to your guys' table, but it wasn't clicking.
This place was ethereal and fancy, even beyond your standards. Eventually, you snapped out of your trance after hearing the subtle scratch of the chair against the almost glassy floor. "Have a seat, princess." Rafe murmured low into your ear, which settled comfortably into your chest.
You listened with no further word, adjusting your hair to lay behind you as you took in the place one more, before your eyes met Rafe, puzzled, "Rafe, this place looks..expensive." You spoke, and a husky laugh let the man, "S'that right? Thought expensive was your whole thing." He said light heartedly, pouring glasses of water for the two of you. Silence was all that came from you, seeming to register the sentence.
"Well, yeah but I mean this looks like something Marie Antoinette would own for an exquisite ball dance, not a date night," You laughed quietly, and a soft breath let you, almost of disbelief, "it's..it's beautiful."
That half smirk of Rafe's fell onto his lips, and he nodded, almost proud of himself for pulling such words out of you as the edge of the crystal glass hit his lips, water slowly going through the seams of the pink, "Wow, 'should be pattin' my back then." He joked, and you couldn't help but smile, a soft giggle leaving you. Giggles, that never came from you.
Least not from a guy's words.
You tilted your head, brows furrowing while your eyes narrowed softly, examining Rafe, "You're funny, Mr. Cameron," you murmured, a low tease in your tone that Rafe picked up on and he hummed, setting the glass down on the silk white of the table cloth.
"Anythin' t'see that pretty smile a'yours, princess." He smoothly replied, and you felt a foreign feeling. It was this tingling sensation, but not only that - there was warmth in your heart.
You couldn't help the grin that came onto your face. Princess, and those words.
Being called princess was best when it was coming out Rafe Cameron's mouth.
Maybe being taken out wasn't so bad after all; you could get used to this.
- note; hey LMFAOO. This is my first time writing these like..fics on tumblr of all places, 'n so I seriously, don't know how this shit works; a good friend of mine really guided me into it, and I decided it would be so embarrassing of me to start writing fics in the name of fan service and lack of anything better to do with my life so uh..here I am. Hope you guys enjoyed this, 'n if you didn't uh- lucky me. Could use advice, so slide it if ya can. Thank ya kindly!
also..I didn't proofread. I will later tho.. maybe might add some other stuff too..

some of my favorite hunger games movie costumes as a costume design student ✶✧
y'all really liked my lucy gray costumes post so here's a few more! i was trying to fit this all into one post but i just have too much to say and i think i'm going to have to do a part two later. my thoughts on some of my favorite costume design work in thg franchise as somebody is trying to do this for a living!
[in no particular order]
1. annie's wedding dress

yes, we know in book canon that her wedding dress was one of katniss' old options (which i think is a very sweet detail, and i always thought someone should write that scene because there's a whole bit where katniss and annie go through the dresses together), but obviously there wasn't time to explain that detail in the movies. i like that the focus bart mueller and kurt swanson put on these little details that make the outfit feel very district 4. it flows in a very watery way. the veil is obviously OBVIOUSLY the best part, there's a clear 1920s influence that works soooo well with her bangs, and we never get to see it in the movie but i love the little scooped details at the bottom of the skirt as well. it's just so tasteful and very well suited to stef.
2. barb azure's 1st stage outfit

this is so insanely up my alley. this is one of those costumes that has so many details it's screaming at you, and yet as the audience we barely get a glimpse of it on screen. i love how many layers barb azure is always dressed in, and how she's paired with these close toned colors in most of her outfits. this is another headpiece that is truly a marvel- and her little velvet capelet ugh! i especially love all of honor's costumes because i think her outfits have the most nods and references to romani traditional clothing, and that's very intentional.
i think it's interesting as well because in my opinion, this outfit seems more fancy and showy than what she wears on reaping day (blouse, long skirt, little vest). we know that the people of 12 are forced to wear their very best to the reaping, and i like to think that barb azure's very best was not what she wore that day. she's got much more elaborate outfits, but she saves that for the covey shows, because the reaping and the government don't get to partake in that corner of their lives. it's a quiet rebellion.
3. the butterfly dress

it's hard to narrow down all of effie's costumes to just one, but this one has been my favorite ever since i was a kid. i think it's unique from her other outfits because it's so singularly on theme, which speaks more to book effie and the people of the capitol in the books than a lot of her other looks. the capitol loves a hyperspecific theme, and this costume nails that.
it's hard to see in these pictures, too but her makeup details with tiny butterfly wings that match the ones coming off her dress and the ones looking like they're going to take flight in her hair and on her arms- perfection.
this is also effie's most orange look, and you could argue that there's a tie there with this reaping being a big moment for peeta. i think there's an intentional color theory thread there somewhere.
4. coral

shoutout to my they/them butches!!!
the details. EVERYTHING about this costume. oh i could do a whole post on every single tribute from the 10th games, because it's so interesting to me how all of their reaping day outfits so deeply signify the culture of their district. their home is where their honor lies. it's the only thing they have left. i also think there's a note of pride found there that isn't as apparent in the 50th or 74th/75th games. much less time has passed since the war, and the districts still have a sense of identity much more distinct than they do in the future. people remember a time when they weren't living under the capitol's heel, existing only to help operations run for the rich. the culture is stronger. and lucky for us, we get to notice these details in the costumes all the more, because the tributes never change, so we have plenty of time with them.
i want to know everything about this. who embroidered the fish and the starfish, was it her mom? grandpa? sibling? who cut her hair like this, and why? did she wear it like this as long as she can remember? her ears are pierced, when did that happen? there's just so many little things that hint at a whole lifetime lived by coral before this all happened, and that just makes everything so much sadder of course.
5. the academy uniforms

the brilliance of these costumes cannot be understated. in the tbosas episode of the art of costume podcast, trish summerville talks about how the thematic element behind the academy uniforms is basically this idea that everyone is one. a singular entity, with no one rising above the rest- thematically ironic, since the whole idea of the plinth prize and coryo's whole character journey is this struggle to be elevated above his peers. it's androgynous, so there's no gender attached to it. red and grey are two of the signature colors of the capitol. the academy logo is on all of the buttons. it's brilliant, truly. and of course, there's the symbolism of all of it being red, because they all have blood on their hands.

also much love to hmu, because the hairstyles EAT. the way all of them have a signature look is so delicious, and the inspiration that a lot of the styles take from the 1940s and early 50s is so wonderful and classic looking (palmyra's bumper bangs!!! arachne's bows!! persephone and vipsania's victory roll-esque pony tails!!!).
that's it for tonight fellas (i have a lot more favorites so i will probably definitely make a part two of this)
#johanna interview dress i'm coming for you#no but seriously trish summerville is a GOD#the hunger games#costume design#costume analysis#catching fire#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#annie cresta#barb azure#effie trinket#coral tbosas#clemensia dovecote#coriolanus snow#arachne crane#palmyra monty#persephone price#vipsania sickle

Here's question that's been ping-ponging around in my head - purely for the funsies:
Out of all the mirror-verse, who's evil counterpart had the biggest glow-up (not necessarily that they look better, just that they look freaking cool)
Alternatively, who looks worse?
YES. The evil glow ups. This answer will be neither simple, nor brief.
First off, just to be clear, these are all based on the mirror universe characters created by Diane Duane in the book "Dark Mirror", which was a continuation of the mirror universe introduced in TOS. IDW then created a comic series and that's where I'm pulling this art and my opinions.
First and foremost: I love all the insane muscles. 100% amazing choice to have a whole universe of protein infused gym bros.
Picard: Slight glow-down. I know a goatee is the signature look of villainy, but it's kind of the only thing different about him. To quote Brent Spiner, when showed these comics at a con, "that's just how Patrick already looks". I think it would've been neat to see some leftover Borg tech utilized here, or even something cool with his artificial heart (permanent gun-hand powered by his heart, Iron Man style, OR a replicator hand than only makes cups of tea).
====================
Riker: Glow-up. I think the injured eye and scar is a really cool look and they lean into his intimidating size. I will say the beard braids are... interesting. I think I like them because they feel pirate-y, and that's an appropriate vibe for the setting.

====================
Data: Glow-up. From a visual perspective, it's awesome. The Borg bits look so cool, BUT I feel like there could've been something more interesting that ties into his character thematically (bits and pieces of real humans? yikes, that's grizzly).
====================
Beverly: Glow-down. Sure she looks more evil, I suppose, but she just looks like her Prime self but severe. I feel like there could've been something more to do here. She's "the captain's woman" and is a doctor without morals, so maybe some questionable visual or neural augments? I'm not quite sure.
Wesley: BIG Glow-down. I hate this look, it just screams... early 2000's Disney high school bully. I'm also not a fan of how his character was depicted in the stories. If anything, with who Wesley is in the prime universe, I think having him remain a moral constant would've been interesting since he is capable of becoming a Traveler and therefore, transcends space and time.

====================
Geordi: Glow-down. I think Geordi is my least favorite design after Wesley. The bald look and the funky visor just don't do it for me, it feels very Marvel villain to me. I honestly love the idea of the Empire openly using all sorts of Borg tech and I know Data already has dibs on that, but Geordi IS the tech guy, so letting him go crazy with the bionics would've been cool.

====================
Worf: Neutral. I know we see a very different Worf in the DS9 mirror universe but in the TNG one, he's actually a shockingly tragic character. The Klingons are enslaved by the Empire and he's actually one of the only characters who has a moral conscious. His design is just.. Klingon who isn't in Starfleet. Not sure how I'd change anything, but I'm always down for lots of scars.

====================
Deanna: Glow-up. This design leans into her character weaponizing her sexuality. Troi is quite possibly the most evil of all the mirror characters and she knows it. I think her design is pretty fun overall and ties into the character very well.
====================
Look at all these murderous, vascular cuties.
All art is by JK Woodward, except the Picard one which is by Zach Howard.

For the character ask meme:
Marvel vs Capom Megaman!
Technically that would just be Classic Mega Man, so we'll go with him!
Send Me a Character
And I will tell you my:
First impression I know who Mega Man was and that there were different ones (I just wasn't sure how or if they were necessarily connected at first, so I drew him and Hub interchangeably but confusedly). I think Rock is cute, but his design was too simple for my tastes.
Something about Smash's additional details clicked so well to me. (MM11 is still not quite there for some reason, so I don't use it.)
Impression now I've always had an interest in robot characters, and after learning more about him, I was somehow able to explore so much with that concept and just Mega Man's character in general. Unsurprisingly, working with him reminded me a lot of Astro Boy and the situations he faces with the innocent mindset of a child and the body of a robot, just not as heavy (I won't talk about the Archie Comics, I stopped following after a while for reasons).
The thing about working with child characters is that they aren't always going to act like older characters, in their words and their emotional responses. On top of that, drawing them is particular too-- their faces, the things they do with their hands, etc.
It leaves a lot to think about, but the thoughts are very welcomed. Kinda like a "put yourself in their shoes" sorta exercise.
So besides the fact that I grew to really love the Mega Man series, with its fun characters and robot designs, I really appreciate the "pureness" of Rock's character. I know he's also a hero with a strong sense of justice, but in the end he's also just a child. A robot child.
Even when compared to the other Mega Mans, Rock is the simplest, purest form of the non-human. His "humanness", while present, differs from X and his complexities despite them both being totally mechanical. Hence why I chose that word "pure".
Though Rock may appear simple, it turns out it's with much meaning. At least to me it does. I have no idea if these words make sense.
Favorite moment This is a Smash thing, but watching the lights of Mega Man's eyes during his fighter reveal is always gonna be so cool.
Idea for a story I made two (ancient) comics that touch on the uncomfortable dynamic between Rock and Dark Pit. I never really clarified it, because I'm still not sure, but Dark Pit's harsh attitude toward Rock were meant to cover for something else.
It's been so long, I don't know if I'll ever return to it. But there's definitely a lot of loose ends I've still left flying around. (Y'know... Like the one with Beck.)
Unpopular opinion I don't really like Rock's MM7/MM8-type proportions. He looks way too tall and way too lanky.
Favorite relationship *Coughs loudly in Captain N*
Favorite headcanon The little depictions that remind you Rock is originally (and still is) a helper robot are very sweet to see.
#wow looking back at my comics from that time makes me feel nostalgic#but also darn I used to write so much (I feel so bad that I haven't done things that nice of a size since)#like I want to but ahhh my energy is stolen by my work...#for real though I really did put all my energy into those megaman comics#well at least I have a lot of them on paper than none at all :)#Asks#Ask Mew#rubyrosevalentine#megaman#rockman#I don't really think there's any way for me to interestingly talk about rock solely in the topic of mvc#so yeah we'll talk about him in general (it's for the character after all)

Not sure if you were accepting questions too but if you are, 17, 24, and 27? ~arceespinkgun
Sure I'll accept questions! [Ask Game]
17. Have your thoughts on a particular Transformers continuity and/or character ever dramatically shifted? If so, how has your opinion changed?
YES. HEHEHEHE. Some messages from last year:
These messages are so funny to me now...
I don't think the same about IDW1 phase 2 now, or its Soundwave (or his relationship with the cassettes) now haha. But when I was first reading, I quite liked it xD.
With the cassettes, after reading Marvel G1 I was like... why does every TF media demote the cassettes to just being Soundwave's minions!?!?! Why can't they be their own persons again q-q??? (Thank you ES for Frenzy and Laserbeak...)
I did read IDW1 largely by its published date order, but I think I didn't really grasp a lot of what it said or presented. If I were to talk about said comic in-depth, I'd have to reread it (and its sister series) entirely... but I don't feel like doing that rn.
Soundwave deciding to betray Ratbat out of cold pragmatism is far superior than him dishing out some kind of karmic justice. (Neither story would care about the ramifications of this for Ratbat himself, though.) All the retcons are just... absurd/unbelievable to me (I like most of the originals better... and trying to smooth inconsistencies between them just falls flat to me). Decepticons being originally for equality against Autobot oppressors just... ehh; it's an uninteresting subversion of expectations. I don't like Decepticons being the revolutionaries who went too far cliché (and it puts Autobots in such a weird position).
Phase 2 has like, one of the most extensive insights into Soundwave's mind though, so while it's not my favorite iteration of him there are some things I do like from it.
The other continuity my thoughts have changed a lot on would be Prime. It was my first and favorite Transformers show, but as I delved more into TF... I realized that it really paled in comparison to a lot of other TF media. Like... all the Decepticons had terrible "arcs" (can't recall the Autobots' off of the top of my head). I also don't like how the Decepticons are structured in this show.
I'd later watch the live-action movies, so being able to recognize its actually very, very obvious influence on Prime sucks. Arcee, for example.
24. Obscure, neglected, or otherwise unpopular character(s) that you like?
Marvel G1 Siren... I don't even know how to describe him, but I quite enjoy watching his bad luck.
Minerva from Super-God Masterforce. Her design is very cool and I like her strong sense of right and wrong / her voice of reason.
(I also like Cancer, Browning, and Mega from this show.)
(This reminds me... I need to get those officially translated manga volumes...)
27. Favorite altmode?
This one's hard... I'm NOT gonna say the beloved anachronistic tape deck...
This has to either be Shockwave's ray gun altmode or Galvatron's particle cannon altmode. I guess I find guns that can be fired by themselves to be cool xD.
#vynx.txt#i both wrote and deleted a lot from my yapping abt phase 2 soundwave... i couldnt decide what to say#but i never wanna see a soundwave like idw1 phase 2 soundwave again xD. unrepentantly evil soundwave superior

Do you still have any hope for old lady Agatha Harkness comeback in mainline Marvel Comics? She will be in a Doctor Strange and Hulk one-shot backup story team-up with May Parker, and in June's solicitations she appeared in an 70s John Buscema remastered pin-up of the FF with her. I know this means nothing but the fact that they still acknowledge that Agatha was old and interesting one day gives me a certain hope.
I find abrupt changes and retcons just as annoying as the next person, but-- and I know this might be an unpopular opinion!-- I also think that walking them back and pretending they never happened is even worse. If you're going to make a bad choice, you should at least have the integrity to stick to it. If you just start going back and forth, the whole thing falls apart in my mind. I feel the same way about the Maximoff retcon-- they could have played the AXIS thing off as a misunderstanding, but after building up their new origin story, I just don't think there's any way to go backwards without making an even worse mess.
Obviously, every situation is different, and Agatha's new look isn't a retcon. It's definitely a product of M C U brand synergy, but she doesn't actually look or act like Hahn, and I don't mind her characterization, especially in Scarlet Witch. People are quick to label her as a villain now, but there's a lot more nuance, and her motivations haven't actually changed. Setting aside the ageism and obvious pandering, I don't hate this version of Agatha, I just don't like her costume design, and I wish they'd kept her hair white. I felt like her younger form in the Uncanny Avengers (2015) Annual was just a lot more recognizable as Agatha, and I wish that her new design had stuck to that aesthetic-- although, I realize she'd probably look a lot like Clea, especially if she was wearing purple.
And that's the thing that really gets me-- Agatha's physical age has fluctuated before, and it was never treated as remarkable. During her recent encounter with Brielle in the Marvel's Voices mobile comic, Agatha remarks that her face "waxes and wanes like the silvering moon." I think it would be pretty easy to turn her into a Margali-type character whose appearance shifts and changes depending on the circumstances. You could even turn it into a maiden-mother-crone gimmick. Alternatively, if you just tweak her costume and hairstyle to look a little more mature or severe-- and make sure Ebony sticks around!-- she'd feel a lot more like her old self. Dauterman's already doing that in his artwork. In a couple years after the hype dies down, it might feel like she's back to normal, even if she never goes full-grandma. I just think it would be silly, or cheap, for her to magically revert to her classic 70s look.
If anyone's curious, Hulk & Doctor Strange is part of a team-up event series written by J. Michael Straczynski, where each issue pairs off two unlikely characters-- although, in this case, there is history between Stephen and Bruce. Anyways, this issue also includes a back-up story about Agatha and May Parker, which is pretty unexpected. Agatha looks like her old self on the cover, but we don't know when the story is set.
The Buscema piece is a wraparoud variant cover for the first issue of the new Fantastic Four series that's coming out in July. It is, as you mentioned, a remaster of an older piece from what looks like the 70s, although I'm not sure. Regardless, I don't think this really means any thing, in terms of Agatha's present-day depiction. Marvel puts out refurbished artwork and classic homages all the time.

I consider you a JW expert so I wanted to ask your opinion on something; I follow this blog called does-it-like-women where they make polls asking whether a certain piece of media likes women (it's pretty hilarious). Anyway, Jurassic World failed massively and gained the verdict of 'Hates Women' - do you feel like this is accurate? I'm inclined to agree but eh, it's complicated
I think it’s important to understand the context of why jw 2015 got so much backlash. it actually started before the movie even came out… by a man who sexually harassed women (joss whedon). it began when the scene where claire was approaching owen for the indominus was dropped as a teaser where he basically calls claire a stiff bitch. people, particularly marvel fans, went into it assuming she’d be a bitch archetype. this was not an organic backlash.
as for the movie itself, there’s the heels controversy. I must stress that BDH WANTED the heels. they were going to let claire go barefoot instead but she was like “why would she go barefoot??? there’s glass and sticks everywhere?? I think it would be more in character if she just kept them”. the heels were an artistic choice, chosen by the actress, to emphasize that the character could, and I quote, “do anything a man (owen) could do backwards and in heels”. and the reason she STARTS the movie in heels is bc the character designer specifically wanted her to “seem like she wouldn’t survive past the first act”. the viewer is meant to see her as incompetent, like the men of the movie, and completely unequipped for the jungle. and then she breaks every expectation by being, as the director calls her, the real hero.
as for her character arc, it’s more about class than femininity. there’s a misconception that she’s giving up her corporate job bc the narrative wants her to be a house wife. this is blatantly wrong. the narrative wants her to be kind. capitalism is not kind. that’s why from even the early jw dvd interviews they’re starting to talk about her as an eco-terrorist (yes, they use that word) in the making. it’s also somewhat explicitly the reason she leaves owen in fk. he wants to play domestic life and she wants to run an activist empire to save the dinosaurs. im paraphrasing multiple interviews in that but yeah.
the most iffy part to me is her ending up with a child. I’m willing to let it pass bc she does it in a very non-traditional non-heteronormative way (adopting/fostering an older child with lots of baggage) but i don’t mind people having issues with it. I would however be absolutely livid if they canonized bio children for her. fanon is whatever but that woman should never be pregnant in canon.
as for zara, i cannot stress enough that it was the actresses choice. in the script, that death is of a man (two, actually). that was not going to happen unless katie mcgrath really wanted to do it (which she did).
I would also like to emphasize that claire is the first antagonist figure to not die. she fills the role of the corporate lawyer in JP or ludlow in TLW. yet, the narrative redeems her corporate greed instead of punishing her for it. if she were in any of the original movies, she would’ve been one of the big deaths. and this was WHY she was chosen to be the main character (I also cannot stress enough that she is. not owen. the director says that like every other interview cause everybody downplays her importance). they wanted “a character who had a lot of room to grow”.
I think the narrative is incredibly kind to claire as a character and that her being a woman is part of that. another part of her jw arc is what the director describes as “being underestimated by every man who she comes across”. she is meant to be dismissed as very one note (because she’s a feminine woman) and then you see she is very nuanced (which is why her last name is dearing. it’s meant to be a tongue and check way to call her ENdearing) and capable. owen and the boys during the rex scene are meant to be her “damsels in distress” as a subversion of the trope.
I mostly covered JW here bc I’m not sure what specifically that poll was based on but JW is my personal meta-favorite of the franchise bc of how much it absolutely adores claire. I’d give links to all this stuff but I am at work and wasting company time on this <3

Fight scenes, action, and pacing in Kagurabachi

Kagurabachi is good. It's really good. This isn't news anymore. The once-memed-about manga surprisingly turned out to be as good as people were joking it would be.
There is a lot I love about it. The action and fight choreography is fun and exciting, for one thing.
There is a scene in a recent chapter where the action involves moving up and down floors of a hotel using elevators. The main character, Chihiro, comes face to face with an assassin, Hiruhiko, As he steps out of an elevator. Hiruhiko is trying to kill Iori, a high schooler whom Chihiro is trying to protect. Chihiro pushes Hiruhiko back into the elevator, instructs Iori to head to the hotel's roof, then cuts the cables, causing the elevator to fall down to the ground floor. As the elevator falls, Chihiro and Hiruhiko briefly fight in free fall, before tumbling out into a hallway as the elevator crashes. After a tense sword fight Hiruhiko slips past Chihiro into a working elevator and heads to the roof. Chihiro follows closely in another elevator, and we get some lovely panels of the two of them, briefly taking a breath, readying themselves to start fighting each other again as soon as the doors open.
Words don't do it justice.
I'm leaving a lot of details out of that description, but throughout this altercation there is a marvellous sense of stakes and tension. Something that Kagurabachi excels at depicting. The hallways in the hotel are small and confined, the elevators are even smaller and even more confined. It can barely contain the action that unfolds.
The atmosphere is also thick with tension. Hiruhiko is dangerous and possibly a psychopath, evidenced as such when the elevator doors first open on him holding by the hair the decapitated head of a guard he had just killed. Iori is vulnerable and scared, and going through her own emotional conflict. Before, and during the elevator fight, people are constantly get diced up and killed. Some of them have been recognisable characters with personalities. Some of them were allies of the main character. Almost all of them were cool and likeable. A lot of them are now dead. Iori could very well be next.
The world of Kagurabachi is brutal and fast paced. As is evident when a lot of characters are almost routinely getting killed off within a handful of chapters from their introduction. We barely get to know them. No-one is safe, not even the main characters like Chihiro, who regularly suffer near-death injuries, or sometimes get hurt so bad they just straight up die.
It rules.
This is what makes the following a bit weird to say: I really wish the story and plot would slow down just a bit to give us time to get to know the characters.
Don't get me wrong, I love the brisk pace, and the high stakes that comes as a result of that. But the characters, and consequently the audience, just don't seem to get a break to process all the shocking events that happen in each arc. The pacing is so fast that just when one action packed arc ends, another begins just as quickly. We don't see a lot of chapters where they just hang out or chill, even if only for a short while. There is no peaceful existence for them to return to for a short time, only for it to be violently interrupted. It's just action and violence with no downtime.
I guess this could be by design, since the main character's peaceful existence has already been shattered at the very beginning of the story. He has nothing to return to. His home is gone, and he has seemingly made no attempt to build a new one. His life is filled only with violence and revenge. But sooner or later that will get tiring. For both the main characters of Kagurabachi, and us, the audience.
Then again, this is just my personal opinion, and I could be wrong.
Anyways, Kagurabachi! Its good! Can't wait for the Anime! Hope it doesn't disappoint!

Current manga[ish] reading list in no particular order

Neighborhood Story (Gokinjo Monogatari) by Ai Yawaza - I now own up to volume 3 of the English release of the manga. The four volume set is based on what I believe was the 10th Anniversary reprint of the manga in Japan. The French edition also follows the four book format but I think the German sticks to the original seven. I have the original tankobon editions for volumes 1-3 where when you line them up, it creates a long dinner table with the entire cast.
I read the entire manga in the early 2010s via scans and had spent the late 90s to that point praying for an official release after Paradise Kiss was printed by Tokyopop. The series was old enough that in the late 90s early 2000s no one was out there doing the line by line translations that I used to use to read manga. I read all of Wish that way with the original manga and the speech bubble guide. e.g. page 12 panel 5 Overall impressions - this was a white whale for me - I likely bought the original manga when I was sixteen or seventeen based on the art style alone. I would say it falls into your standard dramatic shoujo manga with high school students but the lives of ones in counter-culture, outside the norms of usual expectations. When I read the scans I enjoyed it and while it was nothing mind blowing it is a rewarding read. The various individuals sporting alternative fashions is one of my favorite aspects of it. You have a MC who leans mostly towards mod style (Twiggy from the 1960s) with a strong vintage twist, punk, lolita, generic 90s alternative dude, preppy and your designer brand girl.
I look forward to getting volume 4 and completing the set, just it will be likely 28 years later than I would have wanted. The Rose of Versailles by Riyoko Ikeda - I sprung hard for the recent English hardcover editions. One of my friends lent me her roommates 2 volume tankobon set of this series in 2000, but it too lacked a good translation to find online and read along to it. I watched the anime in 2014 and bought the DVD box set. Of course, I couldn't say no to this classic shoujo manga. I'm through the first three volumes and slowly working my way through it. Seeing that I already watched the anime, nothing in it is overall surprising.
I have noticed that early on the level of gay is pretty high and this current "twist" of Andre getting closer to Oscar is much stronger than I felt in the anime. The entire loss of Rosalie and her fawning over Oscar was a disappointment, also toned down in the anime. There is a lot more questioning with Oscar's character as to who she is, what she desires and how to fit into her world. I really wish it pressed those questions more but alas, I'm really starting to feel the Oscar x Andre pressure ramping up. In the anime I felt like it sort of came out of nowhere and in the manga it is more like - okay Rosalie's crush was cute but real adult relationships need a man. lols. Even with my different opinion on the manga compared to the anime, I cannot stress how owning such a fundamental manga series is. I don't think I'll ever attempt a meta on this - more than enough already exists about this with how long it has been around. Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama - An impulse purchase at The Comic Swap on Allen Street. I'm pretty sure some of the individual volumes of X and other early 2000s manga were on the shelf when I was in university.
I'd heard some good murmurs about this manga and a friend kept recommending it. I can't explain how blown away I was this series. The art style is amazing with little use of screen tones and the emphasis on line art. With the author's previous work for DC and Marvel it shows but in all the good ways as far a composition and again that line art. And we haven't even gotten to the story itself! I have read through volume 3 and the pacing is excellent. It doesn't info dump how magic works and the world building is natural and unforced. It already has brought up great questions about who controls knowledge, disability vs accommodation, dealing with trauma, what is your purpose in life/goals. It has the right amount of whimsy that you feel cozy but at the same time you know when shit is serious.
What I feel the most is that Witch Hat Atelier is intentional with everything in it. It is a carefully constructed story and comes together naturally with a good balance of young pupils and adults. And the character designs! Oh my goodness, I love them all.
The Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyuuga - Can't skip my gal Mao Mao. I mean I cosplayed as her back in April because how frequently do you get a pragmatic female lead with deadpan humor and is a scientist who likes plants? I also watched the first season of the anime loving every moment of it and how it really shines with its focus on women navigating a world not made to really benefit them. I decided to read the original light novel instead of the manga based on the light novel. I think by time I finish volume 2 I will have caught up to season 1 and hopefully, pull ahead of the eventual second season which comes in 2025, I think.
Out of all the titles, this one is likely my biggest guilty pleasure as a plant biologist; Mao Mao as a character has a lot of common scientist traits which make her very relatable and fun to see in any sort of media. Her obliviousness to certain things not because she doesn't have an eye for details but because she can't be bothered is realistic but rarely given to a female character in most forms of media regardless of cultural context.
Will I dive into the rest of these series for a meta? I'm honestly not sure. I may do a "quick" review of Gokinjo Monogatari when I complete volume 4 but it isn't the sort of manga that feeds into deep critical analysis. It is a coming of age story about artistic kids and looks cool.
I'd likely be more inclined to tackle Witch Hat Atelier but sometimes I just want to read something and not deep dive into it even if it intellectually feeds my curiosity. My current plan is to catch up on the manga and I'm relying on my county library to read volumes 4-13. If I really like it, I'll probably become a sucker and buy it at some point but I need to be a little more mindful of my manga purchases for the sake of my overflowing bookshelves. I took one of those surveys about how much manga you own and I wasn't expecting to clock in at almost 200 volumes when I've given away/sold/donated them from time to time.
I've got some thoughts on Kekkai Sensen but I'm waiting for the next chapter to drop since it ended on a cliff hanger with that plot twist where the "Count" from previous statements in the manga was not some old frumpy classic Dracula like Blood Breed but instead in a teenage form as Edgar. I liked the twist since I was suspicious of his character but didn't think he might have been the true mastermind of things. But we'd be lazy readers if we'd forgotten that Blood Breeds can easily shapeshift as demonstrated with Girika and Tonio. I will always give her ultimate cougar cred testing out her boy toy before committing to making him a Blood Breed instead of snacking on him.

All 50 honest character prompts for Pre-Seige!Loki
To avoid wank over confusion, this is about this guy.
1. Do you project onto this character?
Yes. In weird ways.
2. Did you always like this character?
I probably started with conflicting emotions, but he was my favorite part of a Thor cartoon movie that introduced me to Norse Marvel (i.e. Hulk vs. Thor (2009)). And I was annoyed his plan was basically foiled by the power of love TM.
In my humble opinion, he's also the best part of old Thor comics because he's kinda funny and bitchy, and has weird "evil" past times. He scratches so many boxes of characters I like. He's like Grendel, Mordred, Cain, Odin, the Devil, and Loki all wrapped up into one character.
3. What first drew you to this character?
I got into Marvel!Loki before before I watched the Thor movies and before Agent of Asgard existed. Funnily enough, it was through Hela. I saw her in that Marvel cartoon mentioned above, and was like "Loki's giant goth daughter is hot, I'm gonna look up her mythology counterpart in Wikipedia." This introduced me to Norse mythology (and I thought myth!Loki was hilarious). Then it was a mixture of MCU!Loki (cus he's adorable) and Norse mythology(they're so funny) that made me want to explore pre-siege comics!Loki.
4. Did you initially dislike/hate this character?
I began to like him out of spite because the narrative annoyed me. The comics just felt overtly congratulatory towards Thor for either being SO VIRTUOUS or SO PHYSICALLY STRONG. He felt like a Gary Stu. Also, to top it off, every woman falls head-over-heels for him and make it their entire personality...
Kind of like how Balder feels in Norse mythology( yes he's my least favorite Norse deity for being such a Gary Stu. And before anyone comes at me: I AM AN ATHEIST! Leave me out of drama.).
I couldn't dislike Loki because I feel he got the narrative short end of the stick. Though sometimes I am annoyed at how he's written or handled. They'll accidentally make him sympathetic, which is hard not to given the conditions he was born into, so they make sure to show him doing something over-the-top evil or have an evil thought bubble the moment he's free to show how justified his treatment is. A lot of it comes off as abuse apologism (in my humble opinion, and fuck it, those comics are old as Odin's balls, so it's actually the case).
5. If this character were a woman, would you honestly still like them? Or in reverse, what if they were a man?
Yes. His reincarnated successor is a woman sometimes. And though he still identified as a man while wearing Sif's body to avoid being harmed by Thor, Lady Loki was interesting and amusing in a fucked up way. ( I am not a fan of the "man wearing a woman's body" aspect. That's basically a transphobic dogwhistle.).
6. Do you have any nicknames or pet names you use for this character?
Bastard Old man, evil sassy bitch, fucking pineapple butt, the fish torturer (he's probably envious that they can swim. He has scaley armor! He WISHES!).
7. Does the character’s age matter to you?
Not really. My favorite is the old man from Loki (2004).
8. Does the character’s looks/design matter to you?
It's nice when he's pretty, but not necessary. I guess I like him when he has a spooky bitch vibe. I love when he has a bunch of buckles and finger gloves like in Siege. And I love that Esad Ribic (e.g. Blood Brothers) gives him a jester-like costume.
Also, lol, but for the longest time I thought the Loki from Kieron Gillen's Siege Loki run has a similar pointy face to the MCU version. But he has no eyebrows, a cowl, and a different eye color. And that was before the casting.
9. Does this character remind you of anyone you know? Does that affect how you see them?
I associate MCU!Loki with a girl I was infatuated with because she was obsessed with Tom Hiddleston. But pre-JiM comics!Loki is maybe myself? He scratches a weird primordial angst I've had over being labeled difficult from a young age.
10. Do you see yourself in this character even without projecting?
Wouldn't that be projecting?
11. How did you “fall in love” with this character?
I find him kinda funny. I love scheming fucks that are hated and shunned by those around them for reasons beyond their control and legitimate reasons born out of their lashing out.
I love villains that think they have things under control but then realize they're way in over their head. He's that villain that occasionally teams up with more powerful entities only to get his ass handed to him, so he ends up seeking Thor help.
Part of it is also my frustration that the narrative and people failed to acknowledge there was anything sympathetic and sad about his circumstances for the longest time. Most sympathy is aimed towards MCU or the pretty reincarnated Loki.
12. If you could write effortlessly and as much as you wanted, what story (s) would you write for this character?
He's basically a royal hostage and a runt. Thor and Loki were not equals. That's angsty as fuck, and I felt it wasn't explored enough. I'd write about him being paranoid, fearing for the day Jotunheim tries anything due to his life being on the line, and knowing he's not considered a great loss by his home realm because he's a runt. And this could be used to showcase Thor's kindness. What if he makes an oath that he won't let Loki be executed in the event that Jotunheim breaks the treaty? (Ultimately dooming Asgard because he gave a future enemy a way to avoid execution (though he can still be tortured in myth-based punishments).). So when Jotunheim breaks the treaty, and Loki's dragged out for execution, Thor confronts Odin about his promise. Loki is allowed to live, though it was done with reluctance.
Also, Loki is a runt who seems to go out of his way to avoid physical fights and uses magic instead. Why has no comic book writer alluded to him being sickly? Like he's a dragon in that panel. Does magic tax him too much?
He was also temporarily blind and made a deal with Dormamu to try to get his sight back, only to have his mind broken and be driven catatonic. It'd be cool if that got explored in modern comics as they're bringing back past storylines. And yay! They've finally acknowledged how fucked up Loki's myth-based punishment is!
I'd also write about Loki and Sif's contentious relationship. He'd end up cutting her blonde hair she's so proud of because she mocked him. And he'd keep it to both mock her and to attempt to look more related to Thor. It's the weird yellow tassel he wears that's been shown to be removable. It's one of my weird HCs about comics!Loki.
13. If you could draw effortlessly and as much as you wanted, what scene (s) would you draw for this character?
Loki with his mouth sewn shut. It's such good angst!!
14. Are you physically attracted to this character?
Not really, but I'm intrigued at the variation of his appearance according to artists. Like they'll give him a face meant to be caricature while simultaneously caking his ass up (see below). There's something interesting going on with his facial features as Loki goes from villain to reincarnated antihero. You could write a media analysis thesis on the physiognomy of villains in Thor comics throughout history.
15. Are your thoughts surrounding this character usually sexual, non-sexual, or a mix of both?
Usually nonsexual. Though I am intrigued by the occasional NSFW thing I find with this Loki as he's not a common target for R34.
Despite that, there's a surprisingly high amount of suggestive bondage comic panels despite Loki being considered ugly and perpetually bitchless. Like look at this shit. Why is pineapple butt so caked up? D:
16. Have you ever cried when thinking about this character? Genuinely?
I don't think there's as much whump of him as there is of other Lokis. So probably not. He does give me the feels though.
17. Have you ever felt physical pain over this character? (ex: physical heartache).
I don't think so, but I am an apologist and woobifier regardless. Lol.
18. Do you prefer to see this character suffer or know peace? Angst or comfort? Both?
I'm a sadist.
19. Does this character serve as a stress ball/ security blanket for you? Something you run to after a bad day to feel safe or happier?
Yes.
20. Do you feel affectionate towards this character?
Yes. I love that bastard old man and Asgard deserved it.
21. Are your feelings about this character platonic, romantic, or familial? All of these feelings at once maybe?
Platonic. I like to study him like a bug. He's a perfect example of a Hays code/Comics Code Authority era villain.
22. Do you think you will always love this character?
Yep. I've lasted this long. And if I don't like cannon, I have plenty of experience ignoring what I don't like.
23. Has this character permanently altered or impacted your psyche in a way you won’t forget?
Yes. I now use the phrase "perpetually bitchless", that's how far my brainrot has gone.
24. Do you ever dream about this character? If so, describe a dream you once had about them.
I don't think so. I think I dreamt about MCU!Loki having a more interesting series though.
25. What kind of fan-fiction do you read about this character? If you don’t read fan-fics about them, why not?
There isn't a lot of fanfic for pre-JiM comics!Loki.
26. If you look for this character’s name on AO3, what tags are you including or excluding?
I'd have to exclude the MCU and Thor movies, and only select Thor (comics).
27. Do you like to ship this character with other characters or do you prefer not to?
I crack ship him with Komand'r as they were both over-the-top evil initially but later got more nuanced portrayals. They have so much in common.
I guess I don't ship strongly, because he's the embodiment of perpetual bitchlessness, but I'm down to ship him with every villain he's teamed up with.
28. Do you get defensive about this character? If yes, then why?
Yea. I feel like I'm probably more apologistic towards him than with other pretty Lokis and than other people are. It's probably due to my frustration of it taking so long by the narrative to admit there are sympathetic elements to his character.
29. Do you affectionately bully this character?
I constantly make fun of how bitchless he is. He also can't swim and he takes it out on fish (retconned because he can turn into salmon and has never being revisited, I know).
30. Are you especially sensitive about this character?
Yes. He's a sympathetic villain, goddammit!
31. Are you ashamed of liking this character?
Yes. I'm very secretive over my Loki obsession.
32. If you could make this character a meal, what would you make them?
Why did I think this meant turning Loki into food? Lol. Unfortunately I mostly eat beans, oatmeal, and tuna.
Well, he likes eating meat very grossly and hates fish. He seems to like hot dogs, so Costco hot dog? Maybe I'd give him a turkey leg of there's a county fair or renn faire nearby.
33. Are you “blinded by love” for this character or do you accept any flaws they may have?
I know he's evil, but I'm still going to be Devil's Advocate because the way he was framed in earlier Thor comics annoyed the fuck out of me. There were a lot of "evil adoptee" elements I didn't vibe with. Like they're already shit-talking him as a fucking baby! That's not fair.
34. Does this character inspire you with little things in your daily life?
We're both spiteful creatures.
35. Has this character ever prevented you from sleeping because you can’t stop thinking about them?
He's kept me up looking for panels and reading analyses so yea...
36. Do you feel a spiritual/soulmate connection with this character?
Maybe a small kinship. Though he does over-the-top evil stuff.
37. Is your love for this character a secret from people you know in real life?
Yes. I'm taking that to the grave.
38. Do you tend to joke more about dying or killing for this character? Both? What causes the distinction?
I don't say that, and he can do that himself. But I often joke that I'm probably a bigger woobifier towards him than to other prettier Lokis.
39. Do you feel lovesick over this character?
I woobify the fuck out of him.
40. Are you very empathetic towards this character? When they feel a certain way in the story, do you feel those emotions too?
He's over-the-top evil, so usually not really. Maybe in Loki (2004) and Loki (2010) I do. Though I do get angry on his behalf on occassion, like when Thor's in his "assault Loki first then ask questions later" mode, or the fucked up myth-based punishments. There's a panel where Sif is narrating about how Loki deserved to have venom dripping on his eyes and Thor's a softy for freeing him from his torture. WTF, Sif? She also goes off about how Loki's not really Thor's brother. Also, if you think people should be preemptively punished, you're a fucking cop. I said what I said.
In the example below, Loki wasn't even behind it. It was Amora:
41. Do you prefer to interact with this character directly via self-insert/reader type content? Or do you enjoy seeing them mostly with other characters in the story and/or your OCs?
I don't do or consume this type of fanfiction.
42. If you could, would you write this character a song or poem?
If I could I would. Lol.
43. What type of weather makes you think of this character?
A windy day.
44. Which season makes you think of this character?
A cold harsh winter.
45. Do you feel as if you are intimately familiar with this character?
I don't know, maybe?
46. How much do bad interpretations of this character upset you?
I feel like in a way I am the bad interpretation because cannon annoys me (and fuck it, cannon isn't always good when it comes to comics. Thor: Son of Asgard and Ultimate Thor are awful and they are closer to cannon than any of my takes on Marvel!Loki will ever be. Finding good interpretations of characters that have existed for at 50+ years in a comic that started out as anti-communist propaganda is like looking for a needle in the haystack.).
I don't like "evil from birth adoptee" narratives that for decades refused to portray him with an iota of sympathy. And there's a bunch of tropes I'm not a fan of applied to him. I find the Thor comics narrative more interesting when it's picked apart and deconstructed. Or "read against the text."
A MAJOR PET PEEVE I have with pre-2010s Thor comics is that they'll do their take on Norse mythology, but they'll erase Loki's involvement in solving the problem and they'll dumb him down when he's supposed to be an evil mastermind. Thor will solve the problem 100% THROUGH PHYSICAL STRENGTH ALONE and there's a weird undercurrent of "Loki should have known his plans would be ineffective cus strength trumps everything hurr durr durr". And Thor wil save Loki's ass from retribution. And like, fucking eyeroll! And if that isn't a Gary Stu. I'm of the opinion that if you want an evil mastermind, said mastermind needs moments to shine. I'm especially thinking of the Ages of Thunder and Reign in Blood runs by Matt Fraction. The writing is fucking stupid and misogynistic.
47. Does this character ever make you laugh sincerely?
Yes. He's a living shitpost who enjoys reverse waterboarding fish on his spare time.
48. What’s your favorite physical/design feature for this character?
His black hair, black nails (the MCU are cowards for forgetting about those), pointy ears, and eyebrows.
49. What’s your favorite personality trait in this character?
He's spiteful, he's a schemer, he's proud. He's the kind of villain that is constantly getting his ass beat by other stronger villains and is forced to ask for the hero's help.
50. Link your fav song, playlist, aesthetic board, fan-fiction, reference pile, personal artwork, analysis post, meme, headcanon, or quote for this character. Whichever one (s) you are most comfortable with!
I think I included some HCs in the "What Would I write" question. This song is in my MCU!Loki playlist and I found it the best fitting for comics!Loki both pre-JIM and post-JIM.

The vengeance saga, hm. I understand it's in Calypso's character to justify her blatant sexual assault by going 'sorry I was just in love uwu it's your fault you can't handle my 'love' and I did nothing wrong but sorry I guess' but I don't know it's just weird that all Odysseus gets to say is 'i loved you🥰🥰 but not in the way you wanted😔😔' like?? Huh?? I feel like he should've been given more to say, and especially not that.
Also Hermes canon design is really confusing to me, I'm just so ? by it. It looks like something from Marvel, like a bad redesign to a classic character. Dangerous was really good, probably my favourite, I just really really dislike his outfit? Why is it so green...
I have no opinion on Charybdis, it was alright I guess.
Get In The Water felt a little airy, wayyy less powerful than Ruthlessness. It doesn't really make me think Odysseus is in any danger, whereas Ruthlessness did. Like, even though we *know* Odysseus will survive Ruthlessness, it still makes you think something bad will happen, that he might not survive despite knowing better.
Six Hundred Strike makes no sense to me, I genuinely don't understand what happened?? Did Odysseus just get powers for some reason?? I'm... I don't even know what's going on. The music is alright I guess, I feel like all the songs have the problem of the music being quiet and the vocals being louder than before? I don't know if it's just me that feels that.
And, why are the Gods so weak in Epic? I know it's probably for tension and to have the actions against them have weight, but like???? They're?? Gods?? Why are they just basically super powered humans? Why can Odysseus basically just become super powered for a fight and beat Poseidon?? Why couldn't he do that before?
Maybe I'll like it more after a relisten, but I was really disappointed with this one? It just felt weak compared to the others. I don't know why. Maybe I'm not understanding it like I should, but you can't really blame me when all I have are visuals and lyrics to go off of, there's no real explanation for things in the watch party a lot of the time.

What would you rate Overwatch’s readability next to Team Fortress 2?
My capacity to care about Overwatch in any form died like five years ago, unfortunately. I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually played a match of Overwatch since 2020. In fact, I may not have actually played any Overwatch at all since then. Glancing at my screenshots folder, the last time I actually saved any gameplay screenshots of Overwatch was 2019, when I very briefly booted it up for Overwatch's halloween stuff.
These were October 19th, 2019. Every screenshot I took after this were all pics of opening freebie loot boxes or browsing the shop after they gave a skin away for free on Twitch Prime or whatever.
Also, I'm going to be real with you: I don't care about the TF2 vs. Overwatch beef. Overwatch feels so done to me now, after Blizzard's whole weird political gaffe (siding with China over content rules), the whole "don't you guys have phones?" problem, Blizzard only balancing the game around eSports tournaments, and, just, completely and entirely fumbling every part of Overwatch 2 to the point where there are rumors they're going to go back to just being called "Overwatch" again.
My distaste for Overwatch is so aggressive these days that I can't even really enjoy Marvel Rivals, because it is so obviously just trying to be Overwatch, and I have very little interest in more Overwatch.
I have no opinions on the character designs of Overwatch in any form outside of the fact a lot of the girls have sameface syndrome, to the point where, when I saw another Discord talking about a recent collab, I had no idea who I was even looking at.

I tried to guess which of these five girls was D.va and I turned out to be incorrect!
I just don't care and I'm not sure if there's anything that could make me care at this point.
