Cruel Angel’s Thesis Chapter 3

It was late in the night, or early in the morning depending on how you choose to view it. V's fever had returned it had been alarming. Nari wiped the sweat from V's brow with a cool cloth. His skin was flushed and felt hot to the touch. Nari brushed his hair from his clammy flesh. Vanderwood and Seven seemed to be talking about something important in the other room. The door was cracked, but all she could make out was hushed harsh tones. Nari sighed; it appeared Seven was now fighting two hackers instead of just Ray. She laced her fingers through V's in hopes to comfort the sick and broken man before her. She opened the messenger app. 2 missed chat rooms, one with Rika, and another with the second hacker. Nari sighed to herself as she logged back out. She couldn't even bother herself to read the chat rooms. She set the phone down and laid her head down on their conjoined hands. Her eyes looking at V's sleeping face. She felt helpless; she didn't have the supplies she would have liked. She knew she was lucky to get what she had, but there where many things she didn't realize the importance of until now. Closing her eyes she realized that without the hospital she was useless. That was depressing.

She woke to the feeling of a finger running through her hair. She sighed a little at the comforting touch, before opening her eyes. Brown met with mint.

"Nari... are you awake?" His voice was soft.

"V how are you feeling?" She asked not lifting her head allowing him to keep playing with her hair.

"I'm much better... because you stayed with me all night long. Thank you, Nari." V's eyes where kind as he moved his hand to pet her head. "I went there to save you, but instead, I'm getting help from you. You seem to be a very strong person. But compared to you, I'm..." He paused collecting his thought. "I'm not at all responsible as a person in charge of an association."

Nari closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. "It's alright. You're good enough just the way you are."

"Thank you for saying that. I feel so comfortable, so at ease when I talk to you... I'm not sure why. Is it because this vibe you have...?" His confession made Nari blush slightly. "I'm... arguing every day against myself... whether I'm on the right track... However... when you support me when that happens... I get a little... very little confidence that I am on the right track. Sorry for making you see me like this." His voice was breaking a little. Nari opened her eyes to look at the gentleman before her. "Nari, please don't be too nice to me, I'm not worth it." She went to say something and he shook his head, fingers still tangled in her hair." as I was talking to you, I was able to realize so many things I never knew. Once my vision, I could see little by little of how trapped I was in my world. However... I'm already a sinner. There are so many sins I've committed. I don't deserve to be happy with someone. The happier I become... the more Rika would hate me. There will be even more misfortune and unhappiness. I must do something about Rika. I must sacrifice myself to stop her." Nari' s head shot up startling him a little. Her eyes were hard as she looked at him.

"There goes your habit again. You're trying to handle everything by yourself-." He silenced her out bust by placing his fingers on her lips.

"Do you think... this is my habit?" He questioned her soothingly stroking her hair again, Nari could only nod.

"But this is a bit different. This is something I must handle on my own. I can no longer watch any other people getting hurt. I'm the one who ruined her... so I'll be the one to put her in peace. It takes only me. If I sacrifice myself, Rika will stop. That's all I can ever wish for. I'll be at peace too... if I do that.." His eyes were sad, they were focused on his hand on her head as he spoke.

"You don't have to do this alone. We can work together." Nari assured him.

"I'm not the type of man who could do that. I've already failed once... Rika changed like that. It's because of me... it's because I loved Rika. Please, let me do this alone. There's only one victim necessary- me. I'll stop Rika and protect everyone. That's the only meaning left in my life. I can never forgive myself... maybe I shouldn't have started this... maybe I should've never done something like love. If I'd known this is how things would turn out... then... I wouldn't have started it in the first place..." He confessed. Nari looked at him with sad understanding eyes.

"There's nothing that shouldn't have started. Back then you only have innocent intentions... you only wished to experience love." Nari tried to soothe him.

"Nari, you keep telling me that I might as well really trust that your right. Do you think I'll be forgiven?" He asked eyes looking at her. Nari smiled softly and nodded.

"Haaa... you'd better stay away from me. I..Im a bizarre person, just like Rika. I might hurt you. You might find yourself in greater danger because of me. What if you suffer... because of me...? I'll be in so much pain... If I think that you might suffer because of me. What if you become like Rika...? What if I ruin you as you stay with me? I'm a monster, like Rika. Please... I don't want to hurt you. Not you." He was getting mystical with his thoughts.

"You're not a monster, V!" She yelled loudly causing him to close his mouth looking at her in surprise. She flushed, it came out so loud she was sure the others heard her.

"You're just... you've experienced tragically sad love. That's all." She voice was soft and quiet.

"No, I am a monster... I was addicted to loving someone endlessly, to the point I devastated someone. I was a fool... a monster... who thought that was the proper way of love. I'm just an empty shell... that tried to find meaning in love. Because I didn't even know who I really am." He sighed sadly closing his own eyes, his eyebrows scrunched together. He was fighting a battle within himself.

"Nari... this is who I am. I'm a photographer, the head of RFA, Rika's past love. The one who ruined Rika. A scaredy-cat trapped by my own fear... Wait... actually, I don't know... I don't know who I am, what kind of person I am. Perhaps... There is no definition of the real me. I'm just a bunch of complicated problems like a package of white blank puzzles..."

"You can find your hue from now on. You can start discovering yourself from the beginning." Nari mused softly, His eyes opened on surprised.

"Thank you... Nari. I wish I could have met you sooner... But I if I did... do you think there would've been anything different?" Nari flushed as he spoke. Unable to form words herself.

"This idea wouldn't leave my head. Do you think I would become like this... Rika would've become like this... if you were there? Haha... seriously I keep wondering why I had to meet you now... it's already too late... I'm determined to vanish alone once I stop Rika." His voice getting quieter as he spoke.

"Please don't go. Stay. Stay and find a new path." Nari heard her voice crack as she pleaded with him.

"I must go. It's too late to find another path. I've come... too far. So please... don't try to comfort me anymore, Nari. I... I can't stay with you. I don't deserve it. But thank you, Nari... if there comes one more chance... no nothing... if I continue this conversion... " He moves to stand, Nari, moved to allow him to do so.

"I fear I might say something funny to you. I'm sorry... and thank you for bearing with me." And with that, he left her alone in the room. Nari bit her lip thinking back on the conversion. She wanted to help him; she'd do anything to help him.

After a few moments, she realized just how stiff her body was. She stood stretching her worn out body, it popped and snapped in protest. She flinched at it. She took a deep breath before walking into the main room herself. Vanderwood and Seven were quietly doing things on their computer, but V was nowhere in sight. Realizing he probably wanted to be alone and went outside, she took to the kitchen.

Thanks to Vanderwood there was actual food to prepare. She was preparing omelets from everyone. She wished she had rice, but since there wasn't a rice cooker here, Vanderwood didn't bother getting any. She sighed they'd have to make do without. She made herself busy chopping some vegetables when V walked back into the cabin. Her eyes met him and he smiled before turning to busy himself with whatever Seven was doing.

Nari was about to place the omelets in the pan when her phone went off. She sighed picking it up checking the caller ID... Reluctantly she answered Rika's call.

"Good morning, Nari!" She shined and Nari rolled her eyes.

"Is there something you needed, Rika?" Nari asked. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at her. V was quick to his feet as he moved closer to her. Seven was right behind him. Nari put a hand up to stop the approach.

"I just called because I missed you." She replied.

"Is that all..." Nari questioned knowing it wasn't all.

"Well, I've been thinking about what we've been talking about in the chat rooms. I wanted to warn you not to trust V so early... he'll destroy your evil too. It's such a beautiful demon I couldn't bear it if you lost it."

"Rika, I want to help you... can't you just let go and stop all of this. Please." Nari pleaded with the girl eyes moving from Luciel's and V's

"Fallen angels like us are here to help those in pain from being shunned by the light!" Rika explained and Nari pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Maybe someone should tell these fallen angels it's the pain that makes us human," Nari muttered hitting the call end button dropping the arm with her phone to her side.

"You okay?" Luciel asked being the first to break the silence. Nari looked up smile plastered on her face.

"Yup! Breakfast will be ready soon!" She exclaimed bidding her emotions as she turned to finish cooking. The boys look unconvinced but didn't push the matter further.

Later on, Nari decided to step outside to enjoy some of the afternoon suns. She was starting to see groggy and hoped that small walk around the cabin would wake her up. She had a patient after all; it was already irresponsible to leave him in the care of Vanderwood. But both he and Seven insisted she takes a break since V currently took a nap. She argued back, but with the two men tag teaming against her it was a losing battle from the start.

She smiled looking up at the clear blue sky feeling the suns warmth on her skin. After speaking to V, she now understood why he was so fascinated with the sun. It really was the mother of all life. It made her feel safe; yes being under the sun had always made her safe. Like a mother's warm hug. She frowns shaking her head. Now was not the time to be thinking about mothers.

She sighed turning to return from her brief break. Once she entered the cabin, she noticed V and Vanderwood almost sizing each other up. Nari raised an eyebrow walking toward the men.

"There's no time... I'm fine. I can handle this. Could you please help me?" V asked the other man who looked at him like he was crazy.

"I'm already helping you," Vanderwood stated.

"Please take me where I tell you. I must see Rika." V was practically begging. Nari eyed the redhead in the corner; she could slightly hear the music coming from the headphones he was wearing. "I must see her in person... at mint eye."

Nari scoffed gaining the attention of the men. "You're not even doing well! Stop being so stubborn." Her tone was stern.

"Wow, that was a bullseye, miss," Vanderwood said in shock. "You'd better listen to her."

"There is no point in talking to Rika like this. It'd be different if I talk to her face-to-face."

"V, please for the sake of what's left of my sanity don't go." Nari pleaded causing V's eyes to meet hers.

"I'm sorry I'm being difficult, Nari. This is something I have to do." V spoke carefully trying to make her understand. Nari sighed pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Enough with your obsession with Rika! You should treasure yourself more." Nari practically growled through her teeth. Vanderwood looked startled by the venom in her tone. V only gave her a sad smile.

"She's right. You should treasure yourself. Why keep playing the hero?" Vanderwood backed her up. V sighed closing his eyes.

"Thank you, Nari. There was only one person who ever told me that, and now that person isn't even part of this world." His eyes bore into hers. She saw the pain. The fear. The uncertainty.

"You don't have to sacrifice yourself for Rika..." Her voice cracking as a tear spilled from her eyes. "You're already priceless to me."

V looked at her with a surprised expression at her confession. He closed his eyes taking a deep breath while a frown formed on his lips. He was quiet for several moments. "Luciel was right. You're so virtuous and brilliant."

She gasped and flushed at that. Her eyes didn't leave V's while he collected his thoughts and debated his options.

"I already know it's too late, but I keep regretting that I met you so late." He laughed humorously. Nari raised an eyebrow trying to understand what the mint-haired man was trying to tell her, without actually telling her. She was missing something she was sure of it.

"Nari?" He questioned when you were quiet for too long.

"You already have the courage to put an end to your obsession. It's already inside you, and I'm sure you can find it. Give yourself more time." She beamed him despite her frustrated tears.

"Courage to put an end to obsession." He pondered to himself.

"Now that sounds good." Vanderwood chimes.

"Nari, tell me to do you think I could really do That?" His eyes were searching to find the strength to within hers.

"Of course, as long as you love yourself," Nari answers softly.

"As long as I love myself? I..." he stopped mid-sentence and quietly walked into the bedroom. Nari kept a wary eye on him as he retreated. Vanderwood just gave her a small smile before returning to work. Nari sighed laying down on the couch.

Luciel eyes Vanderwood as he sat down on the other computer returning to the images. Luciel had only clued in there was an argument when Nari yelled. He didn't draw attention to himself, but he muted his music to listen in. He was stunned to hear the girl lose her patients with V, but was kind of relieved she managed to talk him out of going to Rika. That would have only made things worse. He sighed staring at the lines of code before him; it was infuriating that the opposing team's hacker was better than him. Whenever there was an opening there was also an attack. It was either take the opening or defend against the attack. He groaned tapping his keyboard a little too hard in aggravation. Seven then stood from his computer earning a frown from Vanderwood.

Ever since Vanderwood confronted him about Nari and her behavior toward V, he hasn't been able to concentrate. He walked toward the kitchenette to grab another. His hold eyes landed on the sleeping girl on the couch and he smiled a little to himself. She had her cherry lips slightly parted, and her long lashes laid upon her. There was a slight flush to her face as she slept. His eyes wandered down her body, the dip from her hip to waist was delectable. Her long coffee hair scattered about her frame. There was no denying she was a beautiful woman. Luciel eyes the girl over one more time before grabbing a discarded blanket and covering her. He felt Vanderwood's eyes on him as he softly felt her hair and gentle carcasses her cheek.

"You should get back to work." Vanderwood harshly whispered to gain his attention but not to wake the girl. Seven closed his eyes before shooting a glare toward his handler.

"Mmmm... Seven." She mumbled shooting a sense of panic down his spine. He stared at her wide-eyed as she shifted. Soon enough she settled, clearly still in a deep sleep. Luciel let out the breath he was holding before his eyes softened on the girl before him. A smug smile formed on his lips, she was dreaming about him. Deciding he was safe to move Luciel moved back to the kitchen to retrieve that he needed.

Soon enough he was stationed at his computer again. Ph.D. Pepper and HB chips before him, and never-ending broken code flashing upon the screen. The hacker apparently didn't know when to give up. Seven sighed bring a chip towards his mouth and bit it, typing with his left hand. He was trying to recover the messenger's core data, boot out the intruders before dawn, but it seems the other hacker had other plans. It was nothing but unrelenting attacks to his algorithm in place.

"Just remember what we discussed," Vanderwood mumbled toward Luciel gaining his attention.

"I thought I told you this isn't some soap-opera." He practically snapped back while his fingers typed.

"Honestly I understand the appeal of her," Vanderwood admitted causing Seven to look at the man.

"Her appeal doesn't matter." Luciel bit back, his eyes looking back at the computer sipping his drink.

"I mean there is no rule about fucking her..." Vanderwood stated causing Seven to choke on his drink.

"Shut up! I'm trying to work." Luciel snapped placing his headphones over his head blasting music into his ears. His mind filled with not so safe for work images of the petite brunette on the couch. He squeezed his eyes shut trying to tame his thoughts. He took a deep breath through his nose and allowed it out threw is the mouth. Vanderwood said that as if he went there with Nari it would be enough. Luciel knew that if he crossed that line there wouldn't be anything he could do. He'd be selfish and keep her. He lends back in his chair placing a hand in his packet. Vanderwood had said that just to make him feel complicated He was sure, but now the floodgates of his mind where open.

Nari woke to hear Vanderwood and Luciel muttering to one another in English. She frowns as she listened to them. It seemed they weren't getting any lead way with the hack... hackers? It seems like Mint-Eye wouldn't go down without a fight. She sighed stretching upon the couch. She looked toward the window to see the sun starting to set. Nari brought a hand to her eye looking at the blacker place on her. She smiled at it. Someone had taken the time to care for her.

"Forget the girl and work!" Vanderwood yelled in English causing her to sit up to look at the two behind the couch.

"Think what you want, but she's the one in danger!" Seven yelled back in English.

"You both know I speak English, right?" She informed the two men on perfect English, causing them both to whip around. She smiled at the two frazzled men before her.

"Sorry, we didn't mean to wake you." Seven apologized.

"It's fine, I probably slept too long." She yawned while both men eyed her.

"I'll be damned she really does know English." Vanderwood gasped in Korean.

"It helps when you're working the ER." She explained switching back to her native tongue as well. Luciel just smiled before turning back to the computer.

"Any other languages?" Luciel questioned resuming his typing. She shook her head though he couldn't see.

"Nope. Just the two." She explained as Vanderwood turned back to his computer.

The two resumed talking in what she assumed to be Spanish. She sighed just how many languages did they know? Instead of letting curiosity getting the better of her, she stood from the couch and wandering into the bedroom to check on V. He was still sleeping peacefully. She smiled as she walked toward his bed before placing her fingers on his neck to feel for a pulse; startling the man awake.

"Nari?" He groaned.

"Just checking in on ya!" She chimed with a smiled. His mint eyes met with her honey brown ones. He smiled softly sitting forward.

"Give it to me straight Doc." He joked taking her off guard. She smiled before letting out a giggle.

"Congratulations! YOU'RE GOING TO LIVE!" She yelled lifting her arms up dramatically. In return, she got a heartfelt chuckle.

"All thanks to your efforts." He smiled.

"Thank you! Thank you!" She muttered in English bowing.

"I'm going to head to the restroom. Thank you, Nari, for everything." He stood as she moved to the side to allow him room.

"It was nothing." She brushed him off while waving her hand inform of her face. He just smiled at her before taking his leave. She sighed moving to make the bed.

Nari found herself outside layer the evening. Score for the RFA, but mostly Seven for reviving the messenger, but also score to Mint Eye for making Rika and Ray unable to be deleted from said messenger. Luciel was still hard at work trying to boot them out before actually allowing the other back into the messenger. She sighed looking at the rising moon starting over the trees. She took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves. It was always one small victory for them, that lead to an even greater victory for the opposing team. She honestly worried for Luciel at this point. She hasn't seen him sleep since they've arrived at their little hideout. If it wasn't for her cooking, and Vanderwood getting food, he would have been living off of HB chips and Ph.D. pepper. The whole situation was infuriating to no end.

"I'm so mad." Nari mutter as the redhead walked up behind her. "I just feel like screaming."

"Then why don't you?" He asked joining her, looking at the moon with her. She closed her eyes taking a deep breath in.

"ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!" Nari screamed at the top of her lungs into the night sky catching the hacker by surprise.

"Did that help?" He asked with a frazzled smile.

"I do feel a bit lighter. Why don't you try?" She turned to him smiling.

"I don't really think simply yelling for no reason will help." He muttered turning his gold eyes toward the girl.

"Never know unless you try." She pushed and he smiled taking in a deep breath.

"You have to do it with me." He stated and a grin graced her lips. She turned forward head tilted toward the sky, moonlight making her honey eyes sparkle.

"On the count of three?" She suggested and Luciel chuckled.

"One." He started the count

"Two." She giggled.

"Three!" They muttered together.

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" They both let out a scream from the top of their lungs. Then there was a moment of silence. Nothing but the light bristle of leaves. They then looked at each other with beaming smiles. Gold met with brown entrancing the duo.

"What the fuck is wrong with you two!" A very angry Vanderwood snapped from the door, V was behind him looking bewildered.

It caught them from their daze and they erupted with laughter they both had to grab their sides.

"It worked." She chimed still laughing.

"Even though it was ridiculous it did." Seven laughed with her.

"Nothing's wrong?" V asked breathlessly looking at the pair laughing at him.

"You're both insane! Absolutely insane!" Vanderwood yelled stroking back into the cabin. The two doubled over in more laughter.

"I'm so sorry we startled you!" Nari gasped through her giggles.

"It was your idea!" Luciel informed her.

"I know. I'm so sorry... not sorry. Sorry. Not sorry..." She chimed causing Seven to laugh harder.

"Please don't do that again. We thought something happened." V said evaporated.

"Sorry... not sorry." Nari continued still laughing moving toward the cabin. Her laughter was cut when foot caught a rock-throwing her forward. A strong arm caught her before she could hit the ground. Opening her eyes she looked up at Luciel's face a flushed. It was that moment she got a good look at the hacker. He was about four inches taller than her, with endless gold eyes that bore into hers causing her to flush. His red curls move in the light breeze. The only conclusion she could come up with was he was beautiful.

"Careful." He muttered helping her upright.

She listened carefully to the deep husk of His voice, truly listening to it. She felt his arm started the release his grip on her small frame when she started laughing. He raised a confused eyebrow.

"You're always picking me up when I'm down!" She spoke honestly watching a flush snake its way up his neck. As if she burned him his arm withdrew from her. She frowns a bit at the loss of contact instantly missing his warmth. Realizing this Nari felt her cheek warm as she blushed under his stare, probably confusing the man before her further.

"Would you have preferred to have fallen?" He asked.

"Oh, you know what I meant." She muttered sticking out her tongue with a wink before starting toward the cabin.

She laid a hand on V's arm as she muttered something with a small giggle and beaming smile. V nodded to Nari before her figure disappeared from Luciel's sight. Luciel's eyes met with V's before he followed behind her. He knew that look. It hadn't been one he himself has gotten directly, but he has seen enough movies to know what the mint-haired man was thinking. Suddenly the situation felt like a soap opera. Luciel sighed picking the rock that tripped Nari before turning back toward the moon. He looked at the moon as he sighed. He was only human after all.

Chapter 2 Aria Part 1.

In the next upcoming months Aria and Harry reconnected. Her album was to be released soon but she longed to go back to the days she sang background for the band.

Laying in bed she remembered the day Liam and Harry got into a fight over whose part she will sing along with and somehow she managed to appease them both. It was the first time Harry truly noticed her as he tells it to people.

It was currently 10pm in New York which meant it was 3am in Manchester where Harry was working on his album. Aria was supposed to be asleep instead her mind raced filled with anxiety she couldn’t relax instead her thoughts took her to the worst possible outcomes for performance the next day. To help pass time she texted him

“My album is done will you listen to it?”

He paused “i don’ kno’ if i should.” He was hesitant. In the past she depended so much on his opinion he got frustrated with the search of approval from him.

“Ok fair enough i’ll have Mr. H listen to it”

He remained silent

“Maybe i can do like a Sia thing but cover my whole body be in dungeon somewhere”

He was still quiet

“Ok Harry good night.” She said ending the call. She knew him too well he was asleep.

As she sat aimlessly looking at the ceiling she contemplated all the different things she could do to put an end to her contract. Get sick with a virus, purposely damage her larynx, car accident etc. When Harry awoke at 3am his time he called her she stared at the phone contemplating whether she would swipe right or left. The screen went dark she thanked the gods for not making her make that decision.

At 10 in the morning she found herself in the studio listening to Thomas or Tommy berate her

“ARIA! Im talking to you!” he said snapping her out of her thoughts

“Sorry” she cowered away

“WHY” he paused “why didn’t you perform like you did in this video? you were so good then what is it now?” he was showing her a video of her singing at a local jazz bar. There were only 10 people, people she would never meet this was different this was executives and produces people who had the power to build or destroy her career with one move.

“I dont know im just nervous”

“ABOUT WHAT? WE HAVE DONE EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN TO GET YOU TO NOT BE NERVOUS? SO WHAT ARE YOU NERVOUS ABOUT NOW?

“EVERYTHING!” She argued back before looking at her phone Harry had called her 5 times already.

Harry: Aria are you ok ive called you multiple times

She recorded Tommy

He hit the wall beside her “YO YOU A FUCKING EMBARRASSMENT IT’S A WASTE OF TALENT YOU HAVE. I GOT A 10 YEAR OLD WHO WOULD KILL TO BE IN YOUR SPOT!” He walked away from her “…SO YOURE TELLING ME YOURE GONNA LET SOME 10 YEAR OLD OUT DO YOU? DO WE NEED TO MAKE YOU SING NAKED NEXT TIME?”

She spoke softly “Im sorry I can’t Tommy”

“DONT TOMMY ME! TELL ME YOU CANT! YOU JUST DONT WANT TO! YOU KNOW HOW HARD I HAVE WORKED FOR YOU! YOU OWE ME THIS!”

She sat silently and hit the send button

Harry: get up and walk away. He texted feeling his anger rise if he was there his fist would be connecting with Tommy’s jaw

Aria: I cant

Harry: Aria get up and walk away

Aria: he’s blocking the door.

She remained quiet waiting for the vent session to be over.

“You have a show tomorrow Chicago Bulls so get ready. Ya ass aint making a fool out of me again” She nodded leaving the studio. She ignored Harry for the rest of the day working on her vocals. She sat at home working on her ranges.

“You sound good Ria” her grandmother said cooking

“Thanks Grandma”

“Whats wrong?” she noticed her behavior

“Tommy screamed at me… told me lots of things i was an embarrassment to him… grandma i don’t know if i can do this”

“Youre too good dont let him ruin you!”

“I know”

Her phone lit up it was Harry texting her.

Harry: can you call me please

She stood up and went to her room to call him

“Aria” he said looking at her on the camera

“Hey” she said getting comfortable on the bed. Her eyes were puffy her nose was red. “How was your day?”

“Good.. are yeh ok?”

“I’m ok” she sighed

“Wha’ happened with Tommy”

“Have to perform tomorrow”

He tilted his head in confusion

“Yea”

“Don’ wan yeh to be sad pet”

“I’m ok Harry. Me and Mr. H will be tough” she joked

She chuckled wiping her tears “I don’t even know why im crying Harry thats the problem. With Mr. H i know i cant let him down"

“You never let me down" he spoke softly

“I have, i know that, but im trying not to.”

He sighed not knowing what to say. She was always too hard on herself. Her worst critic never letting up on her imperfections. “ ‘M gonna go to bed” he mumbled

“K good night” she said before ending the call

The next day she walked onto the court her hands shaking getting ready to sing the national anthem. Tommy had softened his tone but his words were still harsh. She found herself panicking 30 minutes prior, hunched over with a paper bag to her mouth. The cameras flashed she brought the microphone to her mouth. She closed her eyes imagined she was at home. When the song was done people jumped to their feet cheering her on. She thanked them and rushed off court. It was one of her best performances.

“WHOO!“ Tommy cheered “THAT WAS IT! THAT’S WHAT YOU DO!… You sounded so good. Thats what you do in front of the execs don’t worry about them you got this Aria!”

She smiled taking a deep breath in she wanted to leave there was no celebration for her this only meant the inevitable an album release and a music career.

“Thanks Tommy can i go home now?”

“Nah lets go party!” “I really dont want to”

“Look its for your image just one drink” he begged

“Ok” she sighed as they made their way to club she texted Harry

An hour passed one drink turned to two and two turned to three she thought. Her head was spinning, Tommy was being too friendly, he was groping her in places he shouldn’t have. Only managing to stand up and rush up the steps she found a room and locked herself in it. Quickly she dialed Harry’s number forgetting he wasn’t in the US, when she remembered she called her grandmother

“Aria do you know what time it is? im asleep!”

“Grandma please come get me” she sobbed on the phone

“Whats wrong?” she sensed the urgency

“He almost raped me i dont know whats wrong with me”

“You stay there i’m calling the cops”

“Where are you?”

“Tommy’s house on 3rd bellavue house with all the cars”

“Stay where you are I’m coming!”

It felt like eternity waiting for her grandmother. She was finding herself waking up from an unconscious ous state every 5 minutes. She was fighting to stay awake. Her phone rang 4 times before she awoke

“Hello? Hello? Aria!?”

“….Grandma?”

“Where are you? You tell me now or i’m coming in with my shot gun!”

“I’m coming don’t” she said weak

Slowly she stood up her legs felt like jello, she opened the door and walked to the staircase held onto the railing with a death grip the party was dying down. She saw him at the corner of her eye he was mingling slowly she walked down the steps trying her best to not draw any attention to herself. When she got to the bottom of the stairwell. The door seemed so far away there were so many people in the way she tried to quickly move around them

“Aria? Is that you?” she heard his voice

“ARIA! I’m calling you!” fear took over she was pushing people out of the way, when she reached the door she opened it and collapsed her grandmother already standing outside her car ran towards her

“Aria” he spoke in her ear as pulled her up. She winced away

“YOU GET AWAY FROM HER!” her grandmother threatened

“I’m just trying to help her out”

“YOU TOUCH HER I’LL BLOW YOUR WHOLE FACE OFF!”

His temper rose “CALM THE FUCK DOWN OLD BITCH!” “I GOT YOUR BITCH TOUCH HER AGAIN AND YOU WON’T HAVE A DICK” She whimpered standing up

“Aria are you ok?” she spoke to her helping her up

She limped to the car her ankle sprained

When they got to the house it took her grandmother 10 minutes to wake her up

“Oh thank God! Aria what did you drink?”

“I don’t know” she said turning her head away from her

“Let’s get you in the house”

She slumped on the couch her grandmother close by the whole night.

The next morning she woke up with a splitting migraine confused about what happened

She groaned her memory was hazy, she remembered drinking a blue motorcycle and Tommy being aggressive she remembered him walking her to the bathroom his smile on his face his eyes telling her something else

“Oh mi nieta you’re awake!”

Her voice raspy “Grandma what happened?”

“Thomas tried to rape you!”

She thought “No… what?”

“Aria you called me you couldn’t even stand! you need to call the cops i think you were drugged”

“He what?” she sat up needing to piece things together

She picked up her phone there were texts from Tommy

Tommy: i hope you had fun i had too much to drink

Tommy: im sorry about what i did I love you😗 Aria i would never hurt you i was just fucked up Tommy: shit you were too,

“I came to get you! that rapist was trying to pull you back in”

She stood up and fell to the ground

“Ahh!” She grimaced grabbing her swollen ankle

“I think you sprained it” her grandmother picked up her foot “here put it up let me get some ice”

In the bathroom she undressed she noticed bruises on her neck, her thighs and knees when the skirt fell she covered herself with her hands, she had no underwear, she could not remember what happened to it. In shower she tried the best she could to remember she couldn’t. But she also knew something wasn’t right. she scrubbed hard feeling dirty. She felt a sick feeling from the pit of her stomach she hunched over unable to stop it. She vomited.

In her sleep it came to her in a flash

She saw herself drinking her drink.That nauseous feeling intensified

“I gotta go I don’t feel good.” she steadied herself by holding his shoulders

“No stay” he rubbed her sides

She shook her head “I’m leaving”

“I said stay” he insisted pulling her back, her back to him he breathed on her neck. She moved her neck away “Mmmm you have a nice ass” he said before smacking it

She shot up in cold sweats her head pounding was it true? Did he really do that?

She looked at her phone there were texts from Harry. He sent her a screenshot from the tabloid the caption “Looks like you and Thomas had fun, you did great! I watched it! what a way to celebrate😂😋” the picture her hair on her face with one arm behind it looked like they were in the middle of a dance. Her wrist ached as if it had a memory of the pain that was inflicted upon it. Harry was oblivious to the dark truth. feeling nauseous she jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom. Rising slowly she cried looking at herself in the mirror.She blamed herself she should have known better. She should have been more careful.

Picking up her phone there was another message from Harry

Miranda: Bitch call me you look lit😂😜

Miranda: Umm that picture doesnt look right call me 🙁😕😞

Harry: call me when you wake up pet I miss your voice😗.

She snatched her laptop from the floor quickly she searched flights to Manchester leaving the next day. She was willing to pay any price once she got the confirmation email she hopped off the bed and three clothes into her suitcase

Her grandmother walked into her room “Where you going you can’t leave!”

“Manchester”

“Are you going to tell him

“I can’t even remember what happened! if it happened will he believe me?”

“Aria he can’t get away with what he did! now I don’t know how the music industry works but that man cant walk away from what he did to you!”

She knocked in the door she quickly wiped away her tears

As the day turned to night she sat crying on the couch. She checked her emails wanting to tell her grandmother she was safe. Her heart dropped seeing Tommy’s name on the list she hesitated to open it. When she did it was a picture of her in the airport the title read Aria party girl rushed to Manchester to see Harry. The caption read Rumor is he called her screaming mad about the picture of her and manager Tommy G. His email: Im fucking calling you and you in UK? We got sessions you better be back by Tuesday. She felt sick to her stomach they couldn’t be more wrong. Sleep finally seeped in after hours of laying awake. Her memory flashed through her dreams

“Come on” he says grabbing her hand he had a goofy smile on his face pulling her towards the dance floor

“No Tommy” she tries to resist

He pulled harder making her collapse into him “damn baby! I didn’t know you wanted it like that?” he chuckled

“Stop” she pushes away from him

Harry quietly took of his clothes and retreated to the bathroom. She could hear him humming behind the water. When he got in bed he cradled behind her kissing her cheek before falling asleep. As she begun to get sleepy she prayed she wouldn’t wake up from a nightmare. In the morning her prayers were answered she softly got out of bed and got ready. Harry woke up an hour later.

“Wha’ do yeh want for breakfast pet?”

“Nothing this is fine”

“ ‘Re yeh sure? you’ve been pushing around the cereal for 5 minutes” she was in a daze she didn’t notice

She shook her head “it’s fine I promise” she lied

He grabbed her hand “Ok are yeh sure? cuz i’ll get yeh anything yeh want”

“I promise” she said forcing the spoon in her mouth.

When they got to his mother’s house she was greeted with love

“Aria come in we have missed yeh oh I always knew yeh two would get back together!” Anne hugged her

She smiled

“Aria!” Gemma greeted her “finally someone we like… no love”

“When are yeh goin to marry her Harry?”Anne asked

“Oh muuum” he fussed

Gemma grabbed her hand dragging her away from Harry “We have to catch up that dress at the wedding to die for where did you get it?”

There was a lot of catching up to do which Aria gladly agreed to do anything to take her mind off that night

At dinner she sat once again pushing her food

“Do yeh want something else?” Harry whispered

“No!” she got scared “this is fine!” she put a mouthful in her mouth

He gave a look she was definitely being strange. She had no appetite there was a raging migraine she was trying to calm down. After yawns went around the room after dinner every one retreated to their rooms

“Ok off it pet what’s the problem?” He asked while they lay in bed. He was trying to find out what was wrong with her

She spoke softly “Nothing”

“No there’s something big show comin’ up?”

“No just thinking”

“About?”

She shook her head and smiled

“Yeh don’ wan’ to talk ‘bout it?”

She shook her head

“Ok” he looked down at her holding Mr.H “You’ve been holding him awfully tight can’ yeh hold me like tha’ too?” He joked

“No you might break” she teased

“Wha’?”

“You might break” she held back her smile

“Are yeh saying I’m weak?” He asked towering her

“……..Yes”

“Yeh wanna test tha’ theory?” he asked before kissing her deeply his kisses made her forget momentarily but when he started grabbing her thighs and kissing her neck is when her mind refused to let it go. She froze eyes shut tight. He noticed the tension in her body he raised up to look at her

“Aria wha’s wrong?”

“Nothing”

“You’re stiff as a board look at me” she opened her eyes “wha’s wrong?”

She sighed “I can’t…. not tonight”

He huffed “ok” he gave her sweet kisses

“Sorry”

At night her prayers were not answered. Her mind took her back to that night

His hand is immediately around her neck his eyes cold and dark he pushes her against the wall. “bitch ill kill you matter of fact” his other hand loosens his belt

“please” she begs clawing at his arm he pulls out his penis, "you know you want this dick" he jams his knee into her thighs forcing them open. “shut up.” He reaches up her skirt to rip off her underwear. He pulls hard making her body jerk forward before the fabric gives way. "Harry cant do you like me" He gets closer kissing her neck she tries pushing him off he places both arms above her head holding them by the hands he reaches between her thighs she’s crying “please” she begs. He stops and looks at her he licks his hand before he palms her vagina. He moans “you wet already, just how i like it”

She shot up from her sleep in a cold sweat immediately she ran to the toilet a violent vomiting spree was to begin.

Harry groaned “Aria?” he turned to his side to confirm she wasn’t there

“Aria” he called sitting up hearing the vile noise. Slowly he got out of bed and walked towards the bathroom. He knelt down beside her rubbing her back

But it wasn’t was it? Tommy really did those things. The reality was setting in.

In the morning she continues to rub Harry’s arm unable to fall asleep she lay awake against his chest

During breakfast she checked her phone

Tommy: Where the fuck are you at

Tommy: you think it’s funny you fucking with my career

Aria: I need more time please

Miranda: so you really gonna ignore me your bff?

As Gemma and Aria shopped around she tried her best to act natural.

“Are yeh ok?” Gemma asked during lunch Aria even though trying her best was very distant

“Tell Harry he owes you a vacation”

She smiled Gemma her biggest advocate always made Harry go out of his way for her “Only if you come too!”

“You know it!”

As the day wound down she hopped the night would be gentle on her she couldn’t wake up from another nightmare.

“Did you see this?” Harry laughed showing her a picture of her crawling up the stairs. Who would possibly take that picture and furthermore insinuate she was going to have sex with Tommy?

She smiled

“Yeh were having fun weren’t yeh?”

She remained silent

“But ’m glad yeh ‘nd Tommy handled your differences” he said falling asleep

She melted into his chest not wanting to remember anything

The next day she Aria, Anne, and Gemma decided to clean up then treat themselves to dinner. She got multiple texts during the day. People were asking her about the picture.

Miranda: uh you need to call me NOW! i know your ass didnt fuck tommy

Miranda: you disappeared to Manchester whats up☹

Miranda: ARIA what did Tommy do to you? Why did Mimi call me crying???😭😭

He frowned “he didn't” he paused to think remembering the dirty glances he gave women

“I gotta find out more” Weezer said scrolling through his phone

As the day went on he couldn’t help but think about it. It gnawed at him this was her manager, someone who was close to her.

“Oh shit! Now they are saying one of the girls was assaulted the night he partied with Aria”

Harry tried to shake it off. “no he couln’ have”

Stevie rushed to him“Harry have you seen?”

“Yea” not wanting to be bothered by it

“No look!” Stevie said shoving the phone at him

Harry looked at him before grabbing the phone he read the words ‘A witness has stepped forward caught him in the act.’ As he read the details his heart rate picked up ‘…. walked in on him with his female artist.’ Tommy only managed Aria and another female artist who was absent that night

“Have yeh talked to Aria maybe its someone else” they tried to reason

“Did she tell you anything?” Gigi asked

He looked at them “no she would tell me”

When the day ended even Gemma got notifications on social media people were tagging her on the posts. Aria’s phone was buzzing nonstop.

Miranda: Aria

Miranda: dont ignore me im your best friend,…. thunder buddies for life

Miranda: Aria

Miranda: did it happen?

“Aria wha’s this?” Gemma asked showing her the article. Her heart sank reading the article Tommy was getting charged with sexual assault. Two victims identified one had yet to come forward. She was the remaining piece.

She shook her head “its nothing”

“They’re saying you’re the other woman is it true?”

“Other woman for what?” Anne asked taking the phone from Gemma’s hand

As Harry rushed to his mother’s house he thought to himself those pictures that were taken, she did look uncomfortable in Tommy’s embrace. The bruised wrist she explained away seemed to be the one he was holding behind her back. She also never got that drunk in public so it was strange that she got that drunk, even when she got drunk she was never that sloppy, falling all over the place hair in her face.

As Aria tried to convince Gemma and Anne that wasn’t her her phone lit up

Miranda: Shit is hitting the fan I hope you told him

Tommy: you bitch

Mimi: hope you told him

Aria felt her breathing hitch

“Aria this sounds like yeh!” Gemma said reading more articles

He paused before speaking standing across from her. His eyes burrowing into her soul. “Wha’ happened that night at Tommy’s house?”

She looked down. Her nightmare was coming to life. It seemed forever when she heard her name being called.

“Aria” Harry called his eyes were becoming more bewildered by the second, her silence was confirming his gut instincts. She looked up at him before looking down. Pulling at her sleeves occupying her hands. She was losing the battle on holding back her tears. It wasn’t long before he called again.

“Aria… I asked yeh a question” his voice assertive he walked closer to her searching for her eyes. His breathing uneven. He needed her to tell him nothing happened. Everyone was looking at her waiting for an answer.

“ARIA!” he screamed in frustration. He startled them.

“Oi! Wha’s going on in here?” His dad asked walking in

The tears won they poured out of her eyes

“Aria tell me wha’ happened!” anger spewed in his voice

“Harold!” his mother scolded in a whisper

“Oh my god!” Gemma said in shock

The whole room came to the realization something dark happened that night. Her behavior made sense now the lack of appetite,the pale look on her face, the vomiting, the insomnia, the night mares.

“Aria” he whispered she had yet to speak. He needed her to say it was a joke. That there was no way it happened.

She looked up at him with tears rolling down her face, her hands were shaking pulling on her sleeve “please don’t make me go back to that night” she spoke softly

“Oh!” Anne grabbed her chest “yeh poor thing” Anne immediately rushed to her side and held her in a tight embrace.

“Harry he didn’…. did he?” Gemma looked at him hoping he could offer up a reason

He squatted down. Holding his head. There were no longer butterflies in his stomach from fear of the truth. Fear was replaced with anger which started from his chest and radiated out “ ’M GONNA KILL HIM!” He said standing up

“Oi! Stop that!”

“Dad not right now!” He paced the floor “…. That BASTARD put his hands on yeh? im going to kill him!

“CALM DOWN HAROLD!” His father said grabbing his shoulders

Aria sobbed in the background. He should have known something was wrong. Her eyes told him something was wrong they were filled with sorrow. He pushed passed his father going outside.

“Oi! come back’ere!” His father chased after him

Gemma knelt down next to her crying and hugging her “Im so sorry Aria”

9.08 a.m.

Jiwon was fast asleep on her comfortable bed as she had a nightmare about Sungmin who got married to another woman. She tried her best to look at the woman’s face, but she couldn’t. She wondered why she was invited to the wedding, but just before the bride and groom announced their vows, Jiwon shouted,

Jiwon: Stop!

Just then, Jiwon woke up from her sleep. She covered her face with both of her palms and relieved a sigh as she realized that it was just a dream.

Yeeun who was still sleeping on the bed downstairs moaned as she heard Jiwon’s loud shout just now, but she tucked herself deeper in her blanket. She was probably tired of her mid-term exams that just ended that week.

Jiwon who couldn’t try sleeping any longer, went out of her room and headed to the bathroom to relieve herself. As she checked her phone, she saw an overwhelming amount of messages coming in from her friends, even those who rarely talked to her. Jiwon murmured to herself,

Jiwon: Did something happen?

She opened her chat with one of her female friends in the same major,

Jiwon thought, ‘video? What video?’’ She clicked on a video link that was sent to her in her other chats. Her expression turned from being confused to a shocked one, as the video titled ‘Nation’s Bus Kiss’ on her phone screen has been watched over 50,000 times. In the video, she could see Sungmin and herself kissing through the bus window.

Jiwon was shocked, but she put on a sly smile as she internally enjoyed it. She flushed the toilet, washed her hands and headed outside to grill some toast for breakfast while reading the comments under the video,

Jiwon smiled as she read the comments, she didn’t know her kiss with Sungmin from the bus window could be the talk of the town. She closed the video application and munched on the warm toast that just popped out fresh from the toaster.

10.10 a.m

Yeeun woke up from her sleep. She sighed in frustration as she had to welcome the day where her parents will be meeting Hochang for the first time, or the last time?

It wasn’t enough that the mid-term exams had caused her brain to fire up, and now she had to face another hurdle, but deep down she wanted to overcome that successfully. She was determined to make her parents trust her relationship with Hochang.

Yeeun exited the room and saw Jiwon who was sitting alone at the dining table. She asked when she saw Jiwon smiling like an idiot,

Yeeun: Something good must’ve happened, huh?

Jiwon who realized Yeeun had already woken up, replied.

Jiwon: Eo… something VERY good.

Yeeun: What is it?

Jiwon shyly replied and showed her the video of her and Sungmin that went viral. Yeeun who saw the video blurted,

Yeeun: Aaayyy, who is that?! Why so cheesy?

Jiwon’s eyes widened in shock as Yeeun couldn’t recognize that the couple in that video is Jiwon and Sungmin. Jiwon responded,

Jiwon: Ya Jung Yeeun, you don’t recognize who those two people are?

Yeeun shook her head and said,

Yeeun: I don’t know.

Jiwon shook her head in disbelief and said,

Jiwon: It’s me.

Yeeun got startled at Jiwon’s answer, and she exclaimed in shock,

Yeeun: What?!

Yeeun snatched Jiwon’s phone and tapped the replay button on the video. Her eyes goggled as she recognized the couple in the video.

Yeeun: Daebak, I didn’t know you guys are that open in public?

Jiwon: Well… what do you expect, it’s me. Song Jiwon,

Jiwon laughed at her own statement. Yeeun who didn’t want to hear Jiwon bragging off further, went into the bathroom to shower. She had to get ready for the meeting.

Kang-Eonni’s Apartment

Kang-eonni has been studying fashion communication for about a year and a half now, and she’s doing pretty well in her studies. She didn’t expect that her old self who used to splurge on branded fashion items could help her in proposing great ways to deliver fashion brands.

Although all her fellow friends in the major are much younger than her, she didn’t mind it at all. In fact, they all look up to her who seemed to have a good understanding of the industry already.

Since holiday is approaching, Kang-eonni wanted to find some internships at fashion brands’ stores. She scrolled down the job-finding search page and stumbled upon an internship ad that says, ‘YSL Assistant Store Manager Internship’.

When Kang-eonni read the internship description, she told herself,

Yina: Ya… This is the perfect opportunity for me.

Kang-eonni clicked on the apply button at the end of the page and sent her CV to accompany her application.

Belle Epoque

11.47 a.m.

Eun went inside her room after a late morning shower. Since it’s Saturday, she doesn’t really have anything to do. Eun sat down on the wooden chair and scrolled down her chats. She thought, ‘I really have no friends.’

Eun sighed in disappointment as she had to face the rest of the day with no activity. Suddenly, her phone rang from an unsaved number, but the call came from a 010 starting digits, so it must be a local caller. Eun picked up the phone rather hesitantly and said,

Eun: Hello?

There was no answer, so she tried again,

Eun: Hello? Who is this?

At that moment, a reply came from the other side, it was a guy’s voice. Eun could hear him clear his throat first and said,

Man: Eo. Eun-ah, it’s me.

Eun could recognize the voice right away. It’s the voice she’s too familiar with.

Eun: Seo Janghoon?

Man: Eo. It’s me. Hey, I think it’s gonna be a quick call, so I’ll let you ask a few question.

Eun: Arasseo… How’s the first week?

Janghoon: Oooff, I was almost late last week when I came back to the base, but thankfully I wasn’t. I arrived at 2.58 p.m, and do you know what punishment I could’ve faced if I was late?

Eun chuckled and replied,

Eun: What is it?

Janghoon answered,

Janghoon: A deadly punishment. I have to-

Eun cut into janghoon’s words,

Eun: Forget it, I changed my mind. I don’t wanna know the details. Thanks so much for calling me and fulfilling your promise.

Janghoon: of course, I’m a man of his words.

Eun laughed subtly and continued,

Eun: After that?

Janghoon: After that what?

Eun scoffed and said,

Eun: I heard Twice came to perform…

Janghoon: Twice? What’s that?

Eun rolled her eyes but smiled shyly and replied,

Eun: Don’t date act like you don’t know!

Janghoon who realized he’s got caught, said,

Janghoon: Well, I just watched. But they weren’t that fun.

Flashback

26th February 2018

Army Senior: Everyone, today will be a rewarding day for us all.

Janghoon’s mate: Ya, I heard a girlgroup is coming to perform

Janghoon who heard his friend’s announcement, commented,

Janghoon: Jinjja?! Who???

Before his friend could answer, the army senior continued his speech,

Army senior: Today, a group of performers will visit the base to perform for us. As you may already know, they’re called…

Janghon frowned his forehead in anticipation, hoping it would be his favorite girlgroup.

Army senior: Twice.

When the senior said ‘Twice’, Janghoon jumped up from his seat and so did his other fellow friends. For one moment, Janghoon thought, ‘Being in the army isn’t so bad after all,’ but he was also conflicted by the thought that Eun might kill him if she found out. He shook that thought off his head and enjoyed the opportunity very much.

As soon as Twice members entered the stage, Janghoon who took the front seat shouted every member’s name and chanted, ‘I love you!’ He definitely had so much fun.

Flashforward – Call with Eun

Eun: Jinjja? They weren’t that fun?

Janghoon: Eo,

Eun: Arasseo. Don’t dare lie, or I’ll kill you.

Janghoon froze for a second, but then he tried to divert the conversation into something else,

Janghoon: But anyway, what are your plans today?

Eun sighed and said,

Eun: I don’t know. I don’t really have friends to go out with. Yej-

Before Eun could properly call her ex-bestfriend’s name, Janghoon advised,

Janghoon: Hm… I think you can try talking to her again. You guys were so close, it’s such a waste to cut off your friendship just like that.

Eun who wholeheartedly considered Janghoon’s advice, said,

Eun: I’ll try.

Just then, she could hear some noise from Janghoon’s end, ‘Ya! Don’t monopolize the phone! Are you the only one who wants to make a phone call?!’ With that, Janghoon said,

Janghoon: Eun-ah, I think I have to go… Good luck! I love you!

To end his words, Janghoon gave Eun a smooch from the phone.

Eun: Eung, arasseo. Talk to you again soon!

Eun ended the call, and then continued to scroll down the list of friends on he KakaoTalk before clicking on the name ‘Yeji’. She opened the chat and texted,

Eun stared at the messages she sent and locked her phone to wait for a reply.

Tani Next Door

12.15 p.m.

Yeeun met Hochang who was waiting in front of the famous Japanese fine dining restaurant. He looked noticeably dandier than usual. He wore a light-blue colored long-sleeved shirt and a straight-cut chino with a pair of boat shoes, looking like he’s more ready than usual to formally greet Yeeun’s parents.

Yeeun: Hochang-ah

Hochang who realized Yeeun’s presence, greeted her cheerfully,

Hochang: Eo, Yeeun-ah!

Yeeun: Are you ready?

Hochang: Yeah, why not!

Hochang held Yeeun’s hand this time and went inside the restaurant to wait for Yeeun’s parents to come. Yeeun and Hochang have ordered the food they wanted to have as soon as they arrived, so when Yeeun’s parents come, they didn’t have to wait anymore.

After waiting for about 15 minutes, both Yeeun and Hohang cold hear footsteps from outside the private room. They both shared a glance in acknowledgement that the parents must have come.

True enough, the usher who was wearing traditional kimono opened the sliding door and knowing that, Hochang and Yeeun stood up to show their respect. Hochang’s heart beat so fast all the sudden, it was his first time meeting a girl’s parents. The only ‘parents’ he’d personally interacted with were his friends’ parents in high school.

He didn’t have a clue on how to ’win’ the hearts of the girlfriend’s parents, but thankfully he did learn from the stories that his sisters shared after they had a meeting with their husbands’ parents.

As soon as Yeeun’s mom and dad went in, Hochang shook dad’s hand and did a 90° degree bow to both parents. Thank God, it wasn’t so awkward from the very start.

When the sashimi, sushi, ocha and some other dishes came to the table, shortly after the four were seated, mom decided to open the conversation,

Mom: So, I’ve heard a little bit about you from Yeeun. I heard you’re currently taking computer engineering studies?

To this, Hochang replied,

Hochang: Yes, that’s right. I’m currently in my final year, just like Yeeun.

Yeeun could see that her mom was still not highly satisfied, but she kept quiet because speaking could only make her feelings worse.

Mom: Alright, so what do your parents do?

Hochang paused for a while and Yeeun who understood Hochang’s family condition, looked at Hochang in sympathetically. Hochang responded,

Hochang: My father unfortunately have passed away just 2 years ago due to stroke, but he was an architect. My mother is a housewife.

Yeeun’s mom and dad who didn’t seem to show interest at first, suddenly gave him one, because they also felt sympathetic.

This time, dad asked in place of mom,

Dad: Stroke? How long did you find out before he passed away?

Hochang didn’t know why that question was asked, but he replied honestly anyway,

Hochang: Honestly no one really knew that he had stroke. He was such a passionate and hard worker as an architetct, so nobody realized he was that ill. Truthfully, as his only son and as the youngest child, I feel very much responsible, and I should’ve known about that sooner.

Yeeun’s dad knew best about stoke and internal illnesses, as he’s a specialist doctor. Although he may seem tough from the outside, he knew exactly how patients’ family members feel to lose their loved ones. Dad replied,

Dad: It shouldn’t be a burden for you. As a university student, you just need to focus on your studies and make sure that you can guarantee yourself a position in the dynamic and competitive workplace.

Hochang who carefully heard dad’s input nodded and hummed in agreement. Dad then continued with the ‘investigation’ to get to know more about Hochang.

Dad: So, have you had any plans for your career? What kind of jobs or positions are you aiming for?

Thankfully, Hochang knew exactly where his passion is, and he knew what kind of job he was going to apply for as soon as he graduated.

Hochang: Well, I have a keen interest and understanding about software programming, and I definitely have paved my career direction towards that field. I also had a quick internship at a prominent technology company last year during the summer break.

Mom and dad showed their satisfaction at Hochang’s answer. Truthfully, they didn’t really want to know much yet about Hochang, because they knew Yeeun was still too young to even consider building a family. Most importantly, Yeeun’s parents honestly wanted to make sure that Hochang is dependable enough to guard Yeeun and make sure she’s safe.

Yeeun who had been quiet since the start of the meeting, finally opened her mouth to share her thoughts,

Yeeun: Mom… Dad… there’s something I really want to tell you about Hochang.

Suddenly, the three people round had their attention on her,

Yeeun: If you care about me and how I truly feel, I am very happy with Hochang. Do you know how secure and safe I feel whenever I’m with him?

He always made sure I walked inside whenever we walk on the streets so I don’t get hit by vehicles passing by easily.

He let me express myself as who I am without having to pretend to be a person that I’m really not.

I very much appreciate his effort to design an electric buzzer for me so that I can defend myself from potential proprietors, he even made sure that I have an emergency application installed on my phone, so I can instantly push the emergency button if there’s something wrong.

The parents were a bit taken aback by Yeeun when she could utter the words she just said without fear. It’s been a long time since Yeeun last expressed her feelings so openly like that in front of them.

Mom and dad looked at each other before showing each other a certain sign. It wasn’t clear what it meant, but for now, Yeeun and Hochang could calmly accept the fact that they have both accomplished the parents meeting phase. That’s the most important thing,

Sungmin’s Car

1.32 p.m.

Sungmin was on his car, driving from his apartment going to pick Jiwon up for a weekend meet up. They have only been separated for less than 24 hours, but it literally felt like forever, Sungmin had a thought, ‘If only Jiwonie lives with me, I won’t have to act so crazily like this.’ Crazy for what? Well… Jiwon isn’t the type who shows her feelings to anyone easily, and the kind who’s capable of not meeting her boyfriend for a whole week without a problem. Sungmin knew well enough that he’s not the type to beg people, but in order to meet Jiwon, he had to.

Every time Sungmin says ‘I miss you’, Jiwon would only reply, ‘Yeah. I know’ and that’s it. But honestly, Jiwon is that dense, she didn’t understand metaphorical statements. By right people should know that when a boyfriend says ‘I miss you’ that means he wants to meet the girlfriend and ask her out, but Jiwon is a rare case.

Sungmin who was bored, turned on the radio. It was a sunny Saturday, a little bit chilly on the weather, and the DJ who hosted the radio show was talking about the type of boyfriends millennials are dreaming of these days.

DJ: Listeners, nowadays, millennials like relationships that are straightforward. And unlike in the past, millennial couples aren’t conservative anymore. So they’re not scared in showing public display affection. So for guys out there who are wondering, ‘what kind of guys do girls want,’ here are some answers.

Just yesterday, a cute couple video was posted online. It has now reached 80,000 views and it basically showed a guy and his girlfriend kissing passionately through the bus window.

Just when Sungmin heard of the description, he got reminded by what he did with Jiwon the day before, ‘what is this?’ Sungmin thought. ‘Do other people actually like to do those things too?’ At that point, Sungmin didn’t know the video that’s discussed was in fact his.

DJ: So what’s the point? The point is actions speak more than words.

Belle Epoque

1.48 p.m.

Sungmin reached the outside of Belle Epoque and he called Jiwon to notify his arrival. In just a couple of minutes, Jiwon who looked so pretty in her parka coat and jeans, got into Sungmin’s car. They greeted each other with a peck.

Jiwon: Have you eaten lunch?

Sungmin: Eo. You?

Jiwon nonned.

Sungmin: So, should we go now? Movie theater?

Jiwon: Yess! I can’t wait to watch that movie together..

Jiwon laughed as she imagined the scene that she saw in the trailer. What movie were they gonna watch? It’s the movie Yeeun and Hochang watched 2 weeks before on Valentine’s Day.

As the car accelerated and went onto the high street, Sungmin asked,

Sungmin: Jiwon-ah, I’m asking you cause I’m curious…

Jiwon looked at Sungmin to listen to what he’s about to say.

Sungmin: Is the bus kiss that we did yesterday done by many people? Cause I just heard on the radio that a bus kiss video had been watched over 80k times.

Jiwon’s eyes widened as she was shocked that Sungmin didn’t know.

Jiwon: Sungmin-ah, you didn’t know?

Sungmin: Didn’t know what? That the kiss is a popular thing? That’s why I’m asking you.

Jiwon: Ya, are you sure you’re calling yourself an aspiring journalist?! How can you not know that the video is our video?

Sungmin: What do you mean our-

Sungmin suddenly processed what Jiwon said,

Sungmin: Mwo?! OUR VIDEO?!

Jiwon: Eo.

Sungmin: Someone took a video of us yesterday?

Jiwon nodded.

Jiwon: I thought you knew already, that’s why you asked me out on a date~

Sungmin was silent, but then he said,

Sungmin: Wh…where is it, the video?

Jiwon: I’ll show it to you when we reach the theater.

In the theater after buying the tickets and snacks…

Jiwon and Sungmin sat on the sofa and then Jiwon showed Sungmin the bus kiss video on her phone.

Jiwon: Sungmin-ah, here

Sungmin looked over to Jiwon’s phone to watch the video. After watching it, his lips stretched so widely as he couldn’t contain his shyness over what he actually dare to do in public with Jiwon. Sungmin being Sungmin, he tried to not show his happiness inside,

Sungmin: But is this even legal?! Aren’t they supposed to ask us permission?

Jiwon replied,

Jiwon: Why? I’m so happy that people actually like our cuteness.

Jiwon tried to pinch Sungmin’s cheeks, but he pulled back. Instead, Sungmin pinched Jiwon’s cheeks back. They both laughed as they realized what they’re doing.

Announcement: Theater 5 is now open. Audience who hold the tickets to theater 5, please proceed to the theater. Thank you.

Jiwon and Sungmin got up from the sofa and went inside as they heard the announcement.

Belle Epoque

3.00 p.m.

Eun was still in her room. Her boredom still lingered as she literally had no one asking her out that day. She exited the room and found Eunjae who was coloring her nails. Eun commented,

Eun: Eunjae-ya… Mwoya, you color your nails?

Eunjae who realized of Eun’s presence, answered in cheerfulness,

Eunjae: Eo! Eun-ah, do you wanna do it too?

Eun hesitated for a while, but she thought it would be fun too, since she almost never colored her nails. As she sat down on the living room carpet, Eunjae told her to pick any color she wanted. She chose a pastel pink color.

Without Eun realizing, a notification came on her phone. It was from Yeji.

Yeeun’s House

3.10 p.m.

Yeeun’s parents just reached home and they sat in the living room. The helper delivered them Chinese tea for afternoon tea. Mom and dad took a sip and mom said,

Mom: Yeobo, what do you think of Yeeun’s boyfriend, honestly?

Dad: Well, personality-wise, I think he’s fine. He looked like a good student, and he knew where he wants to go career-wise. But I know one think doesn’t really support our family legacy.

Mom knew exactly what that meant. Hochang’s family isn’t influential enough to be included in Yeeun’s family.

Dad continued,

Dad: But one this I see is that Yeeun is happy being with that kid, and the fact that he even designed an electric buzzer for our daughter’s safety actually shook my heart as a father.

Mom sighed,

Mom: I know and I agree to all that you said, but isn’t family background the most important thing in here? If we let Yeeun continuously be with that kid and ends up not being able to separate from him, what are we gonna do, then? I think it’s better to tell her now that they should stop meeting one another.

Dad surprisingly agreed, and nodded as his wife explained her opinion on the matter.

Movie Theater

In the theater, in the middle of the movie…

As the movie showed the mature scene between the male and female leads, Sungmin looked over to Jiwon who’s sitting on his right side. His eyes blinked nervously and then diverted his eyes on the seat in front of him and not on the screen.

Jiwon, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy what’s played on the screen while munching on the popcorn on her lap. Jiwon looked at Sungmin who wasn’t paying attention to the movie and held his right hand. Sungmin noticed what Jiwon was doing. He smiled, while caressing Jiwon’s left hand.

When the movie wrapped up, the two exited the theater.

Jiwon looked happier than usual after watching the movie, everyone could guess it ended beautifully. On the way to the parking lot, she talked about the movie and asked,

Jiwon: What do you think? Mr. Grey is soooo romantic, isn’t he?

Sungmin: Well, is there a more romantic guy than me?

Jiwon chuckled and hit Sungmin as she couldn’t hold Sungmin’s super sweet talk. Sungmin pushed a button on the car key and unlocked the door to his car. The two went inside and left the building.

Jiwon turned on the stereo and stared at the clouds above that seemed to be moving together with them. The sky was naturally painted in gradient of pink, purple, and orange, as the sun was about to set and the night was approaching.

Sungmin hardened his grip on the steering wheel as he gathered his guts to ask Jiwon carefully,

Sungmin: Jiwon-ah

Jiwon changed her attention from the sky to Sungmin,

Jiwon: Hm?

Sungmin: Do you want to eat ramyun and then go?* (T/N: Netlix and Chill)

Hearing this, Jiwon smiled and laughed saying,

Jiwon: Sure.

As Sungmin heard Jiwon’s answer, Sungmin took a deep breath as he was going to be prepared for it.

Sungmin’s Apartment

Sungmin keyed in his passcode and let Jiwon see it.

Sungmin: Remember this properly, okay?

Jiwon was a bit startled at the fact that Sungmin is letting her know the passcode to his place,

Jiwon: Sungmin-ah, are you sure????

Sungmin: Since when have I not been sure if it concerns you?

Jiwon nodded and her eyes was stuck on the keypad as Sungmin entered, ‘1236’. The door to the apartment opened and Sungmin let Jiwon enter his place first before he followed inside.

Jiwon hooked her bag strap on the coat hanger in near the living room and blurted,

Jiwon: Where’s the ramyun?

As Sungmin processed Jiwon’s question, he frowned and put on his confused face,

Sungmin: Ramyun?

Jiwon replied,

Jiwon: Didn’t you offer me to eat ramyun before going home?

Sungmin sighed and clenched his fist at his girlfriend’s ignorance. He couldn’t believe Jiwon who confidently called herself the master of ‘mature activities’ didn’t know the meaning of ‘Do you want to eat ramyun and then go?’

Sungmin held himself back and headed to the kitchen as he prepared two packs of Kimchi Ramyun for the both of them.

While Sungmin was cooking, Jiwon approached the fridge to take a look at the fridge contents. Jiwon’s eyes widened in awe as she saw what’s inside Sungmin’s fridge.

It was full with containers filled with home-cooked food, not to mention bottles and cans of mineral water, soju, and beer filling up the door. Jiwon commented,

Jiwon: Sungmin-ah, you sure do eat well, don’t you?

Sungmin smirked,

Sungmin: From now on, will you be willing to eat more often with me? You see, my mom sent me all those food just for me. It’s such a waste cause I can’t always finish them.

With Sungmin’s request, Jiwon asked back nonchalantly,

Jiwon: Can I bring the girls too?

*Goat sound*

Sungmin paused and hesitated before responding,

Sungmin: …. Forget it.

‘It’s not that I can’t finish all the food my mom sent. I was asking so that I can meet up with you more with no special reason,’ Sungmin thought internally. ‘How can my girlfriend be this clueless…’

Sungmin put in the flavoring from the packets and stirred the ramyun as the water was boiling inside the pot. After that, he turned off the electric stove and sprinkled some chopped spring onions on top. He asked Jiwon,

Sungmin: Jiwon-ah, can you take the Kimchi and radish from the fridge?

Jiwon: Hm, okay. What else?

Sungmin: 2 bowls and 2 sets of spoon and chopsticks too please

Sungmin carried the pot and placed it on the coffee table in the living room. He sat down on the carpet before Jiwon joined him.

As the couple slurped the perfectly cooked ramyun deliciously, Jiwon said,

Jiwon: Yaah, this is it! If I’m the expert in somaek, you’re the expert in making ramyun.

Sungmin smiled as he heard Jiwon’s cute analogy.

Suddenly, Jiwon remembered the first time she went to Sungmin’s apartment. She recalled the fact that she and Sungmin were both sitting on the same spot. It’s just that they’re eating ramyun now while they were drinking together the last time. Jiwon opened a conversation as the thought hovered in her mind,

Jiwon: Do you remember?

Sungmin looked at jiwon.

Jiwon: That night when we drank together on this very same spot

Sungmin paused whatever he was doing and silently trying to recall the moment as well. Honestly, it was awkward for him to discuss about it, although they’re a couple now.

Sungmin however replied,

Sungmin: Of course, I remember. How can I not? It’s the moment that set us to realize our feelings.

Jiwon stared at the carpet and smiled as she heard Sungmin’s honesty. She had another question to ask,

Jiwon: That night. Why were you thinking of asking me to have some drinks with you? You know, you’re tnot the kind of guy who ever initiated to ask someone to have a drink together.

Sungmin now smiled as he remembered the exact reason,

Sungmin: Because I wanted to spend more time with you. It was Valentine’s Day. And I wanted to spend that special day with the woman that I love.

Jiwon moved her brows up as she was touched and cringed at Sungmin’s heart-fluttering answer.

When the two finished eating, Sungmin washed the dishes while Jiwon sat down on the sofa looking at her phone.

Sungmin finished washing the dishes and brought a couple of mugs filled with mineral water and placed it on the coffee table while he joined to sit next to Jiwon. He extended his right arm on the sofa behind Jiwon’s shoulders and asked,

Sungmin: What are you looking at?

Jiwon showed him the content of what she was reading and replied,

Jiwon: My High School friend is getting married next week on Saturday. She’s inviting me to her wedding ceremony and reception

Sungmin nodded while he drank from the mug.

Jiwon continued,

Jiwon: It says here that I can bring someone to accompany me. Do you wanna go?

Sungmin raised his eyebrows and asked back,

Sungmin: Me?

Jiwon nodded.

Sungmin thought for a while and replied,

Sungmin: Alright, I’ll come with you. What will I not do for this girlfriend of mine~

Jiwon lauughed a bit and said,

Jiwon: Gomawo

Without them realizing, their faces were already very much close to each other. Both of them gazed at each other’s eyes and Sungmin went to kiss Jiwon’s forehead. Jiwon closed her eyes as she felt Sungmin’s deep affection. Sungmin continued to trace his lips to kiss Jiwon’s nose until his lips touched Jiwon’s. Their instinct and reflex guided them to passionately share a deep kiss and they changed their position from sitting down, to laying themselves down to cuddle on the sofa. Jiwon and Sungmin were both facing each other, with Sungmin’s right hand under Jiwon’s body to protect her.

Thankfully, they didn’t proceed to the bedroom this time and could hold their desire to not cross the boundary.

No matter how dense Jiwon is, she’s able to show her affections fully for Sungmin in times like that, and that’s what makes Sungmin believe in Jiwon’s true and sincere feelings for him

Belle Epoque

6.29 p.m.

Eun went back to her room as she had finished painting her nails and talking to Eunjae for a good few hours. She realized that she hadn’t checked her phone, so she unlocked her phone and saw a few messages from Yeji,

Eun stared at the messages to break down the content. She couldn’t believe that Sooji actually agreed on meeting her again after all the problems in the past. Eun typed her response,

Just like that, Eun locked her phone back and stared at the ceiling while lying down.

In the movie, the female lead wants to invite the male lead to spend the night at her place but she isn’t sure how to go about it, so she ends up suggesting he eat some ramyun before he goes home. “라면 먹을래요?” (Do you want to eat ramyun and then go?”

Once he’s inside and she’s making the ramyun, however, she changes her question. “자고 갈래요?” (Do you want to sleep *together*?)

3: Does your WIP have a title? If so, explain its significance. If not, what are you calling it for now?

Okay so I have been calling it the Youtuber Superhero AU (because it started as a fandom au but then i made it an original!!) but I thought maybe it could be "Thicker than Water", since my MC, Leo, is an orphan and he lives alone for most of his life (most of his life lmao at least until canon point? read also: around 9-11 years when in canon he's like 19?) in a remote, lowkey magical place/dimension?, but ultimately he comes back to his hometown and creates a family for himself!!!! i won't give spoilers but, since i already said this, part of his found family is his adoptive dad, an alien who is also a superhero!! If not TtW, I would call it maybe,,,,, Moonstone???? at least the first book!!! (ooh, maybe TtW can be the series name and Moonstone the first book's name?) because Leo kind of gets his powers through a moon stone????? it's not actually moon stone; it was a strange rock he found in the magical dimension that seeked out a champion for the god Huitzilopochtli??? and the closest word Leo could get for it was Moonstone, because of its uhhhhh singular qualities!

OKAY, this is a fun one!!! Leo's hometown is named Star Nova, idk why it just seemed cool, and it is a futuristic city!!! They don't follow capitalism Because I Said So, and they're really into, like, environmental stuff!!! So you'd see SO much flora all over the city kshdsjfh like those???? idk what they're called but like the towns overridden with plants? but controlled!!! There's a tiny percentage of the population (tho I still haven't decided if this is worldwide?? I have a way to make it worldwide but idk) who have superpowers, either due to "individual" factors (e.g Leo's powers are bc of the moonstone, and Matthew(his dad)'s powers are due to him being an alien!) or were affected by a weird experiment an Evil Corporation™ were doing; ECtm was trying out an illegal experiment that could alter living beings' genetics to their will, but it went wrong and their substance exploded and went airborne. Those who were working on it knew about its risks and toxicity, ergo they were wearing a special suit and weren't affected, but the gas contaminated and ??mixed?? with the air and spread to the nearest city, Star Nova (the unofficial capital of the Joint Pacific Nations) and affected a Whole Lot Of People!!! this all happened a while before canon, and the corporation got away with it bc they were filthy rich basically. Anyway, a lot of the people who were affected to the "virus" reacted negatively and died, some were uhhh """immune"""???, and a few Seemed to be immune but had actually had a successful celular-level bonding with the substance! It didn't do anything to them, but their children/grandchildren were born with physical or mental anomalies, also known as super powers (gasps)!!!! BUT!!! a lot of the story happens in the magical city of Coatl (it means serpent!), located within a pocket dimension somewhere inside the Mexican southern forest, where Leo finds himself when he's four years old, recently orphaned, guided by a magical ....bird....being....? he lives there for around eleven years, and he's granted Huitzilopochtli's Champion's power once he's like. oooooooh uhhhhh maybe….. flowery prose???? i'm a poet at heart, so if i don't use loads of metaphors and language uhhhh idk their name in english but language variators??? i will literally die. but seriously nsjdhsjdhsjfh nothing too serious!!!! most of my “”””angst”””” scenes are….. not so sad, i think skfjsjfj

uhhhhhhhhhhhh seeing how underdeveloped she is right now??? probably Persephone???? bc she's genderfluid skfjsjfjdjfh or uhhhh Scott??? bc i too love leo with my heart and would die for him and stay with him in the afterlife. (hypothetically, of course….)

13: Your characters are stranded on a deserted island. What happens?

They Are All A Mess. akfhajfjajfj Matthew would probably become the leader and like. establish order and shit???? but he's also the hugest nerd so he'd just give the leader role to someone else (probably seph staine?) and goes exploring and cataloging shit skfhsjfhdjf Leo is probably the most resourceful one of the bunch, so he would immediately like. start planning for huts and food and stuff???? also idk if they would have their powers in this situation cause it'd be too easy to get them all out of there????? but let's just say they do but the island is inescapable by flight?? he can talk to animals, so he could communicate with the local fauna and like form alliances???? Seph is a good leader, so he'd probably like….. keep everything in check???? and Leo's friends are all good and resourceful, so they'd make a good team!!!! tldr they basically create order immediately and do their best to not struggle??? after a few days/weeks, some of them start to like. break down? but the adults are like. wise and shit??? and i'm pretty sure at least one of them is like a licensed therapist??? so they help each other out uwu

14: Have you chosen birthdays for any of your characters? If so, when are they?

oh!!!! only for a few!!!! Leo and Maeve's birthday is on March 25, Scott's birthday is on August 27, Matthew doesn't really have a birthday??? because time is different in his planet????, Percy and Persephone's birthday is somewhere in November, and uhhhh im p sure that's all i got akfjsjfjsj i suck at birth dates

15: Do you know your characters’ MBTI personalities?

GOD, no. maybe i should do their tests???👀

16: What would your characters be for Halloween?

Leo… doesn't believe in/care for Halloween, as he didn't grow up around it, but it's totally Scott's jam!!! they are dirt poor in a good first half of the book, though, so they can't really dress up :( they met in the library, and after (spoiler alert!!!) scotty's death, Leo feels it appropriate to dress up as Scott's fave characters every year. Percy and Persephone are (very weak) shapeshifters, so their costumes ROCK!!!!! they always do matching costumes, so they get cliché pair costumes!! Matthew….. uh. he is… way too old for that. he was literally alive before Halloween was even a thing, so it's not really his thing. Leah just……. does her own thing??? she can see ghosts, so she sometimes does like historical costumes and stuff with their help!!! and Ben…. oof tbh that depends on what his fave song/album/whatev is at the moment??? he kinda creates like a story/aesthetic for them and dresses up that way!!!!

17: Does your WIP have any themes or motifs?

uhhhh found family, definitely!!!! i really can't think of any bc i'm an idiot, but uhhhh intelligence??? if that's a thing??? like,,, they're all powerful and shit but it's also like. brains over brawns????

Riku: Manager, thanks for the good work! I just finished sitting through Mitsuki’s course on serving customers, and it was really helpful!

Tsumugi: Thank you for the good work, Riku-san! That sounds good...! What kind of course was it?

Riku: It kinda felt like some sort of training! Mitsuki listed out all the points to “The Essentials of Serving” on some paper and held it up, and he recited them like they do in training. (1)

Tsumugi: I was thinking that you all wouldn’t be running around that much inside of the cafe to the point that it would physically affect you, so I gave the OK....

Riku: Ehー! It’s no problem! I’m not sure if I could do it well or not, but it feels kinda idol-ish right. I’m getting excited! (3)

Riku: He says, “There’s also a survey so please think carefully about your answers.” Iori kinda feels like he’s a parent!

Tsumugi: I feel like Iori-san is telling me to do my job from far away! (lol) Since it came up, would it be okay to hear your answers right now?

Riku: Yeah, it’s okay!

When you found out that you would be a cafe employee, what did you think about being careful about?

What kind of menu are you hoping the cafe will have?

Riku: I definitely want to uphold the 3rd rule of “No matter what the situation, always put on a smile!” that Mitsuki taught me. We’re idols, after all. I want to hear our fans saying that they had fun and that they want to come back again.

Tsumugi: What kind of menu are you hoping the cafe will have?

Riku: Cream soda! It looks so fancy and cool, so I like it. In the past, I wasn’t allowed to eat any ice cream or anything, so when we go to a family restaurant now, I always order it!

Tsumugi: Do you have any prior experience with roller skating?

Riku: I don’t! I’ve seen children glide around with them before. You know, the ones with wheels stuck on the bottom! Ah, this sounds like a bad joke! (lol) (4)

Tsumugi: I actually asked him about whether he had prior experience or not, but I feel like it’ll affect his image, so I’ll keep quiet..

Riku: So that means he hasn’t done it before, right!

Tsumugi: Ah...!

(1): i’m just imagining mitsuki holding a poster with his arms wide open and spread out and reciting the 3 essential points of serving customers at the top of his lungs

(2): THIS.............. so uh. riku initially typed “２、フレンドリーと馴れ馴れしいは紙一重！” to which tsumugi accidentally typed “２、フレンドリーと馴れ馴れしいは紙一重れ” notice how instead of an exclamation point, she typed れ instead. so basically:

the japanese keyboard that’s commonly used on the phone looks like this. as you can see in the first image, the ら and 、。？！squares are very close to each other. when you hold a square, you get 4 little more squares that pop up. as for ら, you get りるれろ. same with the punctuation marks square. now, れ and ！are both on the same extended square. when typing fast with this keyboard, you dont hold each square because thats a bit slow. instead, you can just swipe up, left, right, down on a square to get which character you want faster. for tsumugi’s case, since the ら and 、。？！squares are so close to each other, she accidentally swiped left on the ら square and mistyped れ instead of ！

as for my choice of translation, i stuck to the normal computer keyboard instead of choosing which phone keyboard to use. and since the @ and ! are close to each other as how れ and ！are, i used them.

(3): I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY AND I TOOK IT. アイドルっぽい?????????????? IDOL-ISH???????????????????? HA IM FUNNY

(4): i’m not going to lie this took me a while to get and when i got it i threw my phone across the room becausE IT WAS A HORRIBLE PUN, RI K U so basically the original is “ほら、靴にローラーくっついてるやつ！” (hora, kutsu ni rooraa kuttsuiteru yatsu!” riku nanase kills a man (me) i literally dont know how to translate this into an english pun im open to options im tempted to say “yknow! the ones with rollers on the skates! ....wait that sounds like a bad joke!!!!!!!!” but thats???? not really a joke?????? uh

(5): just for clarification. riku says that iori 偉そうに rabbit chatted him and i didnt want to write that iori arrogantly rabbit chatted him bc that’s a bit!!?!?!?!?!???! not iori!?!?!?!?! so i went with boldly bc i couldnt think of a better word pleasehelpme but basically iori messaged riku asking if he had any previous experience roller skating with the implication that he had his own share of experience already and riku basically sees through his bullshit

I've been trying to read the whole vc series, but school and work just keep preventing me from getting really far! Is it ok to ask you to write a little summary for each book so I can catch up with the fandom until I have the time to read them all thoroughly?

Yeah, I understand, time is limited :P

I don’t know that summarizing VC will allow you to “catch up” with the fandom, you really only need to read the first 3 books and the Vampire Armand to get most of the jokes on tumblr, bc most of the jokes seem to center around:

Louis being a pyromaniac,

Lestat being an obnoxious but somehow lovable glittery murder machine,

Lestat and Louis being awesome and shitty murder dads,

Claudia being an ungrateful spoiled brat,

Armand being a little brat, or a slut, or an evul coven master, or all of the above,

Daniel Molloy just wanting to vampire plz!!!11!,

Marius being a pedo, or too bossy, or both,

Gabrielle is a bad mom and an ice queen,

Nicolas is spelled NICOLAS and he is NOT DEAD!,

Secondary characters not getting enough love from anyone!!

There are often spoilers in summaries tho, do you really want to be spoiled? I LOVE being spoiled.

We have these unreliable narrators, there is a lot of disagreement as to what canon really is, and some fans choose to ignore parts of (or entire books) in the series. We bring our own experiences to the reading, and we choose what to connect with, so I think we can agree on some things about each book, but you will probably get a different summary from any given reader. Even AR has told us to disregard the hybrid Mayfair/VC books (Blood Canticle, possibly Merrick and Blackwood Farm) when moving onto the more recent VC additions (PL and PLROA). So, for example, I have a friend who has only read the first 3 books. She doesn’t even know what happens after that bc she prefers to think it ended after QOTD. So any new vampires made after QOTD do not exist to her. #Your headcanon may vary.

Anyway, you want summaries.

Gonna try to do a little summary for each VC under the cut as a personal challenge.

Spoilers ahead! I’ll try to do this with as few spoilers as possible, as factually as possible.

1. Interview with the Vampire - Louis tells the story of his life and unlife to Daniel Molloy. Louis starts at the point in his mortal life just before he meets Lestat, and how his life up until that meeting influenced the unlife that followed after he became a vampire. Lestat’s reasons for choosing Louis are unclear to Louis, but he wants Louis to choose to be a vampire. Louis is under so much duress (failing health, still in emotional distress over his guilt re: a close family member’s death) that the choice is not 100% legit, Lestat can’t wait for a more opportune time and proceeds to turn Louis anyway.

The whole story could be seen as Anne Rice’s exploration of the role of religion and the reasons why terrible things happen to innocent people, the concept of punishment.

For me, it was also eye-opening bc I was 11 when I read it and it introduced the possibility of love between a same-sex couple, even if that was in more of a read-between-the-lines way.

It also has a child vampire and I hadn’t seen any media even attempt to tell a story with a child vampire before. Few media that attempt it seem to have captured the beauty and tragedy of such a creature as in this story, and she reappears in a few of the other VC. Unreliable Narrator thing that continues throughout the series.

^ok that was too long, I’m going for shorter.

2. The Vampire Lestat - Lestat seeks to “correct the record” that Louis laid out in IWTV by giving us his own backstory, starting at his mortal youth and how that influenced the unlife that followed when he became a vampire, against his will (hence the “I’m going to give you the choice I never had,” line from movie!IWTV). There is more exploration in the role of religion and reasons why bad things happen to basically innocent people, and whether you really can make the best of a shitty situation or just give up. More about punishment. A very unique take on the origin of the vampires as a species is revealed. And the reasons why Lestat behaved the way he did (basically all secretive) in IWTV. Unreliable Narrator thing that continues throughout the series, who are we to believe? Lestat or Louis? And the author’s retconning which is perceived as “making excuses later in canon for behavior that’s already happened.” Some readers really despise this. Personally, I like having the options and trusting one version of events, or none of them.

3. The Queen of the Damned - Lestat’s modern-era rock career wakes the Queen of the Vampires and she has this awesome Radical Feminist idea for world peace. She’s already gotten started on it! She upgrades Lestat physically so that he can help her accomplish her goals, but he’s not really on board. They meet with the vampires she has allowed to survive her purge and it doesn’t go very well. Also in this book, we have different narrators, more about the vampire origin story, and the Armand/Daniel ship is sailing at its best here.

4. The Tale of the Body Thief - Having suffered so much through the past 3 books, Lestat is a suicidal hamburger-brained moron and makes some very bad choices. Despite everyone advising him NOT to, Lestat makes a terrible trade with a body thief and learns quickly that he had idealized being human. He does some horrendous stuff, and wants off the Being Human ride. He has one friend who helps him set things back to the way they should be, and then he betrays that friend in a spectacularly cruel way. More importantly, Lestat also gets a wonderful cuddly doggo.

5. Memnoch the Devil - Lestat Goes to Heaven and Hell, meets Jesus Christ, meets God, meets Satan (who prefers to go by “Memnoch”) it’s all a huge interview process to decide if Lestat might work for God or Satan and it’s basically fanfic of the Bible. Some people hated it for those reasons. I found it really intriguing, bc it presents a reason why God created the earth, and why there’s suffering, why God allows suffering to go on, and where religion comes from. Like Lestat, Memnoch says he’s not the antagonist, but really the good guy in all this. When Dorothy gets back to Kansas Lestat returns to earth, there is disagreement about whether he went on a real trip or he was just fooled by a really talented spirit. Lestat is so confused that he throws a huge tantrum and then gets solitary confinement, then slips into a coma.

6. The Vampire Armand - Armand gets his spotlight and gets to really tell his story, do we believe everything he tells us? Lots of good Italy times stuff. Armand visits Lestat in his coma-state, and talks about that, too.

7. Merrick - Merrick is a Mayfair witch in NOLA who bewitches Louis in pursuit of his request for closure with Claudia, and hilarity ensues. Louis gets the most screentime he’s had since IWTV, but the whole book is told from a 3rd wheel’s POV, it would have been so much better from Louis’ or Merrick’s POV. Major fatal thing happens but fortunately Lestat wakes up from his coma in time to save the day.

8. Blood and Gold - Marius tells his story, as does the vampire Thorne tell his own story. Marius talks about his artistic influences and his experience with the early Talamasca and Santino and the Children of Satan. We see Daniel (now living with Marius) under a kind of spell, which Marius says is temporary.

9. Blackwood Farm - Lestat goes to the Deep South and hears the story of vampire Quinn (his story defies summary) and, with Merrick’s help, saves the day.

10. Blood Canticle - More vampire and Mayfair mixing. And Taltos. It’s a very big WTF book. But it has some very funny scenes and lines in it. It ends with Lestat promising the Dark Gift to someone.

11. Prince Lestat - Vampire scientists. A clone. Someone gets kidnapped. Ultimate Vampire Coven Gathering. Lestat is cranky, saves the day anyway. Ghosts apparently can linger on earth after death and make bodies for themselves. Characters from past books reappear. New characters are introduced. Louis writes a chapter about how OK fine, he does love Lestat. FINE.

12. Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis - I haven’t finished this but basically… the REAL vampire origin story, and it involves bird-like aliens, who were sent to earth bc the aliens feed on the suffering of mortals. The bird-like aliens didnt want to create Atlantis. in fact they were pissed because this one creature of theirs, Amel, made Atlantis with the Luracastria (i dunno i think thats how it’s spelled) and their viewing tech couldn’t see through the material. Amel made Atlantis to spite the bird-like aliens omg i cant believe im typing this. Louis and Lestat finally have some legit canon cuddletimes.

- Pandora - the story of the vampire Pandora, and why Marius is bad at relationships. Lots of good Roman times stuff.

- Vittorio - is not a VC vampire, and wants nothing to do with that dysfunctional pile of fanged crazies. @monstersinthecosmos and @vittoriathevampire could give you a better summary of that one, since I didn’t absorb it too well :P

oh yeah im gonna uhhh copy these from what I said on twitter bc i want people here to have a chance to read these but: very long dr2 thoughts incoming. these were originally disparate threads but im too lazy to combine them coherently so this is what you get. under a readmore bc its very long and annoying lol

1. im gonna talk about this more when im further in and also when its not 5 am, but theres Something about the way that dr does its plot twists that feels kind of insulting to the intelligence of its audience. like. yeah a good plot twist is well-foreshadowed but at a certain point if you have an amnesiac protag and a traitor that gets mentioned from the very beginning............ik that there Is a reveal about this at some point already but its like. Really. R.

(honestly this was more of an issue with dr1 telegraphing its twists miles ahead but like. when you add like 6 blatant red herrings to try to confuse the player its just. Not good)

2. anyway minor nitpick that has nothing to do with the actual game and is a localization thing: who the fuck decided that "theater bonus prize" had to be the right order for that in English. that is super fucking unclear. you could justify "bonus theater prize" just as well.

honestly I've noticed a bunch of typos in the localization that really make me question it. this clearly isn't an original game issue but its not just forgetting a word or smthn, its forgetting the first letter of a word in a minigame. forgetting punctuation quite often. its..idk. its baffling to me bc dr isn't even a super old game? the official loc is WAY recent and I didn't even notice it being this bad in dr1 so idk what the hell is up

actually wait im thinking abt this more and dr2 having SO MANY translation errors is annoying when like. its a popular as fuck franchise (for some reason) and yet the quality of your translation is worse than obscure shit like rloop? what is wrong with you. ive already heard some tales about how gonta and (the one girl in v3 idk her name) got localized and ???? what the actual fuck happened there

3. honestly half of my problems w dr are literally just Plot Structure Things and I dont think v3 is gonna change those much. wow there are 5 islands! and there's obviously going to be a conclusion chapter! i Wonder how many people are going to die if two people die (ish) per chapter! wuoh!!!!!

4. i would like to criticize the 3rd case in dr2 specifically bc of it doing a hangman, a logic dive, and then another fucking hangman. who on EARTH thought that was okay. you do the first hangman and then instantly figure out The Case's Major Twist like. you didn't need those other two

5. honestly i might be going harder on dr2 than I would be otherwise purely because my last two games were fucking rloop and 13s which have absolutely MAGNIFICENT mysteries that feel properly foreshadowed the whole time. if you play two absolutely wonderful games In A Row then a completely average game is gonna feel like a mess lol

6. oh this is a dr structure complaint and not exactly something I know how to fix but once you get past the halfway point the murder mystery aspect starts getting way more boring for me bc you just have fewer and fewer people who could actually commit the crime.

7. ig dr's structure (in general, i cant see this Not applying to v3 and it applied to 1) would work better for me if it did something like rloop or yt//td. i know that's basically turning it into a different game but if you make your entire cast Potential Willing Murderers...hm.

its really hard to do death games generally but they generally feel less interesting to me if its just like "heres a motive, now Kill" like. idk. the motives never really have felt strong enough for me to believe they'd actually kill people. except the second case of 2 bc yeah that one actually tracks for me, but otherwise I'm like. the locked room mystery of 1 actively makes me angry bc the motive is stupid as fuck. 8. idk man obviously im gonna finish dr as a series bc a) I already own it b) it's too influential in the cosplay community for me to not, but it is genuinely kind of baffling to me how THIS is the spikechun game that got popular. its not bc of the M rating bc 999 is RIGHT there. at least the music slaps but it keeps feeling like a slog, and when I finished the last two games I played - both of which are 40+ hour games - in A WEEK because of how engaging they were...it feels a little more painful than it would otherwise

Alrighty! Welcome and thank you to Comic Tea Party for hosting this discussion! I am DA-POW!, the creator of JINGKU, and will be participating as well. Feel free to read through the short excerpt above, if you haven't already! Please remember to be kind and respectful of everyone's thoughts. But please don't hold back if you have any burning questions or passions pertaining to JINGKU that you'd like to share! As a starter, I'll go ahead and answer the first two questions here. O w O

So! What has been my favorite scene in the comic so far? I have a number of favorite scenes, but I would say the moments that I've enjoyed drawing the most is the scene where Lee gives Taw his kukaoki. 8^U!!!

And the scene where Lee saves Taw from falling to her death. Q v Olll

These are my favorite scenes because they turned out the closest to how I envisioned them as I drew. And that is always something very satisfying to know when a creator's life is essentially attempting to chase and capture their vision for other's to see. Now who is my favorite character? I have to say, I like each character for different reasons. ; v ; BUT!!! I will share who I enjoy drawing the most-- which is Hur. Since Hur is a character who has a bald cut, if I need to adjust him mid-way through--- there's not a lot of editing I have to do to say... Huatai. Who's hair I almost have to always redraw if I should need to change his position and placement on the page.(edited)

But then again, I also must confess Huatai is very dear to me! He is the only character that was alive before JINGKU's world was molded out from my late teenage years-- meaning he was made before JINGKU existed. He's gone through a lot of changes, but I'm glad that he's found a home in JINGKU. He is very important to the Vavoan afterall. XD I would love to hear what other people's thoughts are on their favorite scene and character from the JINGKU cast. I must confess though!!! As far as I know, Lee is officially the most popular character and if you feel that way-- please tell this silly bean why. (And if not, who's the precious bean you've offered up yer likes to, eh? Confess!) ; V ; When I created Lee, I did not put an inkling of effort to insure his place in anyone's heart and now I'm wondering if my lack of effort has backfired on me. XDDD(edited)

im surprised you find lee's popularity a semi-mystery given your own chosen fave scenes XD lee is my fave but until i answer more questions tomorrow i will be more objective and less subjective about why i think he is probably the most popular in general. and that would be due to 1) of the characters so far his positive traits have probably been the most focused on 2) of the character so far his positive traits are the ones who have had the most impact on the protagonist, Taw 3) of the characters so far, he is the one who continually does nice things without forseeable self motivation, and selflessness is an extremely endearing trait (keep in mind im talking about as he presents himself. maybe he does have selfish reasoning, but its an unknown factor). 4) although he's stoic, his "negative" traits are the least abrasive in their own way due to the fact he gives Taw some more space. whereas the others are somewhat more social aggressive.

so effort aside hes basically been the most positively painted character

actually the fact you claim to have not put effort to get ppl to like him makes him even more endearing because it just means hes angel through and through

XDDDDD But I must clarify (just for my own mental comfort) that I would have loved the scenes I mentioned whether it was Lee saving Taw, Hur, Voo, or simply a monkey. I was just really happy with how they turned out artistically-- more so than the actual fact that it was Lee or even Taw for that matter. ; W ;/ But OMG Rebel... OMG.... shakes head to self What have I done? It seems I played myself and I can't help but laugh at my own silliness.(edited)

Answer 1: One of my favorite scenes is from the first chapter, where Taw says she is like the fence protecting her family. It's difficult for me to explain exactly why it's my favorite, but something about it really resonated with me. (It could be because I'm a wife and mother, idk. Lol) Other than that, I have to say, every scene is meticulously drawn and all the characters are perfect in their own way.

The way they jab each other with insults and nicknames is just hilarious. 2. At the moment, who is your favorite character? What about that character earns them this favor? I am a bit undecided on choosing my favorite character, so I'm going to wait until there is more material for me to examine who I find the most favorable. 3. Will "Taw" be discovered and revealed to a woman and/or not Shu? What do you think will happen should that come about? Who might be the first to discover it? It's quite difficult for me to decide when Taw's secret will finally be discovered, but if that ever happens I think she will be in big trouble. I think the first one to discover Taw's secret will probably be Hur or Voo since they're the ones mostly close to Taw. 4. Do you believe that the Taw clan, especially Mother Mai, will leave the situation as is, or will they intervene to protect "Taw?" Also, do you believe Shu might be discovered wherever he went? If so, what might happen? I think they'll come back to help Taw in the future and I don't think shu will be discovered.(edited)

I love that quote too, and not just because it shows her love for her family. There's something poignant about her being a fence ... she's not one of the animals being protected. She is, and is not, part of the family at the same time.

OMG. O _ O @keii4ii Your wise mind knows no bounds. But yeah!!! Adding on to that, a few readers have talked about the fence being the borderline to what's right and wrong. The pigs being what's right and the wild animal being what's wrong. But as the creator, I didn't intend it that way-- though I won't stop people from discussing it in that sense.(edited)

But it's more so of simply: Protect those inside (and put yourself at risk)? Let others protect you (and put other's at risk)? Or simply protect yourself (and leaves others to their own mechanisms)?(edited)

Answer 2: I struggled for a long time over picking a favorite character. Just like everyone else, I really like Lee, but all of the characters bring unique qualities to the table that make them special and stand out in their own way. That being said, so far Taw is my number one favorite character. She's very strong and selfless when it comes to protecting the people she loves. I like that her character is flawed and that we get to experience her struggles with her. Also, quick superficial sidenote, but Huatai (and his flawless hair) is a hottie and if we were going solely based on looks that man wins hands down.

But on the topic of Voo & Hur, one reader of mine did mention that their interaction was "interesting." XDDD Pertaining to what @Chillin&Livin said, I'm happy to hear someone finds the two funny and entertaining! Some of us are probably not aware since they did pop up later to read JINGKU, but the first few drafts of JINGKU posted online actually had Hur's dialogue censored because I was not really sure on the target audience yet. In the end, I ultimately decided that the work would be best left in the hands of older teens and adults instead of children seeing as the topics that JINGKU will discuss would probably be too dark to share with a young audience either way.(edited)

I've got to agree Huatai's flawless hair is truly something. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Many of my friends have commented about his little twirl, which is essentially the last element that I placed on him before deciding he was ready to take his place in the circle of JINGKU characters.

So the fact that we're asking about the Huatai-- it reminded me that a few readers in the past have asked me: what in the world is everyone's actual names? XDDD I have no idea if any of the future questions in this discussion will poke at this, but I do hope to make plans to reveal some of the cast's real name where applicable in the future. Though, I must say that I make no promises. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

AH!!!! But the topic of the Green dialect! Just as a comparison, I would like to mention that the Green dialect is different in say... American English is to British English or Australian English. Which I have mentioned to @- ̗̀ Mitsu ৫ ̖́- at one point. XDDD Even a standard Northern American dialect compared to a deep Southern American one would be a good comparison. Of course, I must mention that I do lean towards a more British one to represent Huatai just because it would give him a more posh impression. ; v ; Though the thought of a deep Southern American one seems quite awesome too now that I've mentioned it. 8^L Example: Do you have a flashlight? (American English) Do you have a torch? (British English) Don't forget the fact that there is slight difference in stress of certain vowels and consonants in the Green dialect just as American English differs a bit to British English if you still need a comparison.(edited)

1) I'm torn between two scenes so ill just pick both. the first scene i really like is the one with Taw having to get out of bath thing with Hur and Voo. like majority of the time those scenes happen in secretly a girl stories, its really comedic and shenanigan ridden. and while ill love shenanigans, im not a huge fan of the trope because it always feels really forced and logically inconsistent. so i love that in this story taw got out of it no big deal. boundaries were respected and everyone moved on. so i appreciate that scene just for being different and not focusing on it (at least in that specific moment of context). the second scene i really like is the one where lee gives taw his kukaoki and is super patient with taw. it was heartwarming to see the contrast to their arrival cause it shows that rules will be followed and enforced not out of cruelty but because the rules exist and everyone is there for a reason. 2) as i stated Lee be my favorite. i already gave my objective reason why i assume hes the most popular in other spaces. but now my subjective reason. lee hits all the right notes for my favorite guildty pleasure character types. got the grumpy stoicism, the dedication and focus, the immense loyalty, all packed on top of a heart of gold. Lee is just the angel no one deserves. 3) I totally think Taw is gonna get found out. I mean theyre with the Huatai for life. So unless Taw dies a very early death, she's kind of doom. Something is gonna happen eventually that exposes the secret. I'm assuming it's gonna be Lee or Huatai. cause i dont feel Hur or Voo would be understanding enough. Or maybe it's gonna be someone we havent met yet. Maybe that pretty lady who greeted them when they arrived.

4) I think this largely depends on what they know. Like did Taw leave them a note that said "Shu ran away and I'm taking his place?" or was there a note that said "I hate you all I'm running away Shu is best and going to the palace like a good boy." Cause while I might of missed it, that really determines whether they even know to go looking for Taw in the first place. Even if they did know Taw is taking a risk, i'm not sure they'd do anything cause they do have to think of the whole clan. Actually speaking of this, this is why i actually dont view Taw's whole obsession with being the fence as selfless as a lot of others. Cause her actions to try and be the fence, while good intentioned, still have consequences. If she's discovered maybe her whole clan gets punished, for instance. at the very least, ppl are going to miss her im sure and be hurt by her absence. so her actions are not without their downfalls and selfish nuances. not that this is bad, at all, just saying the fence thing makes me side eye a bit sometimes. as for shu, idk. i dont think hes going to be found out unless he wants to be found out. and maybe hell want to be found out. theres no gurantee his relationship will last and like, where else is he gonna go at that point if thinks all go downhill? probably home, cause that is the usual instinct. 5) i think the green dialect might be specific, but i dont have theories as to why because there is much to be seen about the region. i think hes gonna be the best huatai who does all the great things and shows taw why taw should care about the kingdom. i base this on nothing except the huatai is a hottie and that lee trusts him so i feel compelled to trust him. #ShallowReasoningIntensifies

My favort scene is when taw finds out about shu and his boyfriend. i was really shocked-- I didn't think that any hmong story would include a gay couple because its something we shouldn't talk about. So it was daring to me.

Out of everyone we've seen so far, i think I'm leaning towards is mua. He seems like someone really sly and i like that-- sort of like gin from Bleach.

I'm going to agree with RebelVampire. Taw's going to get found out. i don't think she thought this through. I think she should have told mother mai what happened, and then decide on how to approch the problem.

about Shu though. I think he''s an idiot! I don't care much about who he was with, but how could he betray his family? I actually thought shu was okay at first, but then after he did that to taw I was like no.

i binged through Jingku and I was on a rollercoaster. For every scene that shcoked me, I was upset and also excited.

I just wish shu was more sly then this wouldn't have happened.

But I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the scene with Voo and Taw, although I sort of forgot about it in the midst of all the other plot devices I'm juggling. 9v9lll Ah... But I do understand the undercover girl bath scene trope that you speak of. XDDD I do my best to make characters true to their backstory, so every character's reaction to whatever pops up in JINGKU should reflect on them as a person. ; V ; Maybe someday when we get further enough, I'll do little extra installments outside of the canon plot with plot along the lines of the beach episode, the valentines episode, so on and so forth for giggles. (Makes fanfic and fan-comics of my own creations. =v=b) No promises though~~.(edited)

For all the feelings that I didn't invest into Lee... Now thinking it over, I'm sort of happy that the readers feel for him. Although as I mentioned, I never intended for this to happen. I guess it's like Bob Ross says... There's no mistake. Just a happy accident. Y v Y

On the topic of Taw though, I will admit-- as a human being and as myself (my background and circumstances)-- I would have never done what Taw did. OvOlll I don't think I'm that... gutsy? Willing to risk so much or gamble with such high stakes? Essentially, in the terms of the pig, fence, wild animal analogy-- I would be the pig. I probably wouldn't be very promising as a character. But as I always say, I think I would make great bacon. =v=b

BUT OMG. XDDD The lack of faith in Shu from my readers is immense! I can only hope that whatever happens, it will be for the better of everyone's life. OvOlll

In all honesty though, I'm surprised to hear that you've already sort of grown attached to Mua (just because he's just barely appeared.) OAO!!! Everyone in the Vavoan are sort of an oddball, so I'm glad they all shine through with their own respective traits.(edited)

I don't really care for lee because he hurt Taw. i don't like the guys that are always talking and don't listen to the girl.

Lee is always assuming everything like he knows it all and it just turns me off. Why dont he think to ask?

But yeah, he is the member thats like doing everything so i understand why people like him.

I also think that because lee is so truthful about everything like from what we know so far like vampire said, he is going to be taken of advantage of easily. taw is kind of different. Like she;s not really a good person, but not really a bad person to the country. From chaptor seven, i think Taw might be the one to do that. I wish the creator told us what taw was thinking though so we know for sure though.

@kongli I like that scene too because I think it gives Taw a chance to shine. We get to see how much she loves her family and is willing to sacrifice for them in action, not just thoughts or words.

i agree with shrimpchip. Taw seems like a person of action not just all talk. i like that she seems to be pretty careful like she thinks about what the other vavoan people say and then decide on what to do instead of just doing whatever.

For me personally, I think there are a lot of actions Lee commits that is questionable, for example, his initiative to take authority over everyone else in the vavoan. According to Hur in chapter 2 the vavoan are supposed to act as merely puppets who serve the Huatai. if a vavoan member were to create a problem then shouldn't it be in the Huatai's place to solve it, not Lee? And I keep wondering, why does Voo consider Lee's assault on Taw a nice thing? Even Taw wonders the same thing. If what Lee did was nice, what's the norm? I seriously want to know. Voo mentions how close Lee and the Huatai are in chapter 3. This is probably a bit out there, but it just occured to me... what if Lee is a bad guy and plans to over throw the Huatai and to do that he decides to create a close relationship with the Huatai to learn more about the Huatai's plan. And that sole reason is why Lee made Taw his target when Lee meets Taw and later forces Taw to join his schemes to kill the Huatai.

@Chillin&Livin Interesting points but I feel like, and I'm not the creator so I could totally be wrong lmao, people are misreading the situation with Lee. When I read through it the first time, I just assumed there was a hierarchy to the Vavoan. Obviously Huatai is head bitch in charge but when he's not around, who keeps everyone in line? It's Lee. The fact is, most people can't be trusted to do things independently (I feel bad saying this but it's proven to be true) without leadership or guidance. The other characters have a certain closeness between them, but Lee seems to stand out in a way that makes him feel unreachable despite his moments of kindness.

@DA-POW! (Yayao Yuying Studio) I'd be really happy for Taw if she could find a way home without any repercussions before she is forced to do something she may regret.

it'd be cool if Lee was a villain, but i don't think it will happen unless the creator pools a 180 on us. if it did happen, I wouldn't be surprised thuogh. Its sort of like a trope where this character is like all cool and good to a group, like lee is to the country but then later they're like just kidding. That's when shit hits the fan. i'm sure all the Lee fans would be heartbroken for real if it did happen though.

But what shrimpchips said, about heirarchy. i don't really think theres an official like level for everyone. I feel like it really is supposed to be the huatai and then theres the vavoan like chillin said. lee is just the kind of person that will do things before anyone asks him to because he feels like it.

I think that if there was someone that had something to offer to taw though and taw feels like its a good deal that she would take it. like I said I don't think Taw would just sit around waiting for something to work out for her situation.

1. My favourite is when Taw is mad about the their big brother Shu taking a whole day to catch the chicken. Because as a reader that was my reaction too. 2. Hur's rough behavior made me like them instantly. I am always a sucker for rough characters with golden hearts. The interaction with Taw was much like a tsundere HHHH You look like this rice ball. HERE EAT THIS BECAUSE YOU MISSED DINNER. HHHHH 3. I'm very much hoping that Taw's secret will go to their grave. I know thats light thinking but I'm really not wanting to see the reveal, what is the punishment?! Who will try to protect Taw?!? Will Taw become valuable enough to keep in the Vavoan? HHHHH 4. I don't really think Mother Mai will do much of the situation, as I think they would just assume that Taw disappeared and Shu went on their way. If Shu's discovered first that is a different story. I hope Taw gets the best life. ;w; 5. Maybe the Huatai is a replacement to the Huatai. MAYBE ITS AN INCEPTION OF AN INCEPTION. That is why Lee is so much favoured, because Lee was probably close to the Huatai before they were even going to be the Huatai. HHHHH I'm a fake Huatai playing the pretend for the real Huatai, so now I have to actually be the Huatai because the real Huatai went MIA. HELP ME OUT LEE. 6. I think their relationship is that of a newly born chick and a mother hen. Have you seen how many times the Huatai screams out Lee's name? (edited)

@kongli @shrimpchipsahoy @Chillin&Livin i agree with shrimpchips on the matter of hierarchy. because when theres anything involving large, large groups, theres always a structure of hierarchy. keep in mind also that the huatai is in charge of the whole kingdom basically. so its not just the vavoan under him. theres probably a ton of other branches and people. so while yes, the huatai might be the ultimate leader, that doest mean there arent also ppl in charge directly under him to keep order in various other matters of the kingdom. its kind of like how in an army you have a general at the top but then various other ranks under them who control various army squads and such. those other ranks obviously follow the generals orders, but at the same time they make sure those under them also get those orders fulfilled. now this being said, i do think its debateable on whether lee's position as this secondary leader is official or not. but even if it wasnt official this would be the natural result. someone always has to take charge, because otherwise theres just anarchy. youd wind up with even worse situations then what happened on the bridge cliff thing. instead of just taw falling off the cliff itd probably be like half of the vavoan because thered be no one ordering people around keeping things organized. and as was also pointed out, the huatai cant be there in every situation. so if theres no one in charge, even unofficially, theres going to be problems and will probably lead to the huatai getting offed pretty quickly.

that being said, if lee winds up a villain im okay with this. i will support lee to the end, even if the end is some sort of train derailment into the abyss

I came from webtoon and i stayed because i liked the story and characters. im so tired of always having to read character that dont do anything or like don't have a goal. Its like where in the hell are we going? and Taw is a bit different from the girls i always read. She;s kind of like not a good person who always try to save people that she don't know but she's not bad because shes just tyring to survive.

i also stayed because i liked the art. I really like the pictures you put at the beginning of the chapters.

QUESTION 7. Do you think there is any reason Lee is so nice to "Taw?" Is Lee just a nice guy or is there something else? Will Lee continue to help "Taw," or will Lee give up since "Taw" is years behind everyone else?

7) I think theres two things going on. first off, i think lee is just genuinely a nice dude. gruff and a stickler for rules, but nice. however, i also think pragmatically speaking its in lee's best interest to make sure taw is up to snuff. because if taw isnt up to snuff, welp, good-bye huatai. so in essence lee's actions may be less nice and more driven by the pragmatic need to have taw not suck at the job. i dont think Lee is gonna give up, but i have a high suspicion it might lead lee to learn that taw is not the taw that was supposed to be sent. or at least theres going to be many lectures. but again, pragmatically not a good idea to leave taw as is. unless theres like...paper pushers in the vavoan. taw can get that nice, comfy desk job in that case.

Answer 3: I think it's inevitable that the truth about Taw will be revealed to some extent. cries I can't imagine it would be easy for a woman to hide her identity long term, especially in consideration of baths/toilet time/that time of the month. I've been thinking a lot about who may be the first to discover it, but there are so many variables involved that I can't pin it down. Although I hope whoever discovers her secret helps her escape or fake her death or something (so she can escape without repercussions), I don't think the odds are in our favor. Lol

Speaking of kukaoki! I think I only mentioned this once (like way back when I posted the first draft of JINGKU on webtoons) but when the name kukaoki is broken down, it's defined as: ku = pair / kao = wheel / ki = spin. As a side note, the Hmong language is tonal (8/7 tones or so), meaning these definitions are conditional depending on the tone used when speaking the word. Kind of like how one kanji, though pronounced the same, can mean different things depending on how you depict the character. So don't try to share these meanings without that little bit of salt to add in^ There were a number of names I thought to call the weapon, but recalled that I shouldn't use hard to pronounce Hmong words for the sake of readers. 9v9lll I hope that my efforts pulled through. sweats(edited)

8) I think Taw is gonna learn, and I think she's also gonna learn that strength has advantage too, what with all the farm work. In all honesty, I don't think Taw is gonna go home. I think the inevitable path for Taw is to learn that there is more than one way to be a fence. so instead of just protecting her little family unit shell learn that by protecting the kingdom she also protects her family. or something like that. 9) It was Lee. /shot In all seriousness, I assume it was a foreign power. I don't get the sense that the kingdom is in the most secure of places, and I think it's a sign that these are troubled times that are gonna involved quite a bit of fighting and securing of power.

Number seven, i don't think lee is going to give up. Hes too stubborn. Number eight, i think taw will learn the kukaoki but she wont be good at it because Yah said that you have to start from when your a kid. I dont know how old Taw is but i think it would be hard for her like when someone learns ballet kind of late. Taw is probably going to try to find a way home but get stuck being with the vavoan for the rest of her lief. i think its going to be like she thought she wanted to go home but after staying with the the vavoan for so long she decides to stay because she likes it there.

for number nine, i think it might be a foreign power like vampire said. I went back to look at the part where they are atacked and i just realized that if huatai didn't get sick he would have been dead because Lee wouldnt' have came to move him from the carriage.

I think that someone in the country betray the country and if they did betray the country they might be working with foreign power.

okay, so i just thought about this but the huatai is supposed to be green right? why is he wearing a girl's shirt? a green shirt would be like the one shu's boyfriend wears or did the creator mess up?

And for those who are wondering about Hmong clothes... Essentially, there's a number of designs (its fashion afterall ;v;) but the main thing you should always be aware of is that a girl's shirt typically features an extended collar on the back. Hmong male clothes do not (and should not) have this feature.(edited)

O.O Maybe Huatai is secretly a woman. That would be awesome because s/he could be Taw's greatest ally! Other idea is maybe Huatai wears girls clothes to honor someone they lost (like Nuriko from Fushigi Yuugi, who is actually a man but poses as a woman to honor his late sister.)

i'm looking forward to when taw sees Shu again and kicks him in the butt. I really hope that the creator doesnt stop making jingku because theres like no hmong manga at all with a interesting story that has a lot of stuff in it.

Growing up, my family moved around a lot, and I found myself as a transfer student often as a result. (e.g. 1st grade year, I went to 3 different schools) I was also a sickly child and missed school a lot. That combination meant I was often clueless in the class: the material they were covering at a new school was sometimes a little ahead. Or more commonly, I miss 2 days of class and everyone else in the classroom was 2 days ahead of me. Teachers made zero effort to help me catch up. It was all up to me. What I'm trying to say is, I can really relate to Taw being thrown into a situation that she'd never been prepared for, unlike everyone else surrounding her. I'm looking forward to how she deals with all of that. I also hope she can catch a break sometime!

So there are a number of things I'm looking forward to for JINGKU and most of them revolves around revealing plot points. XDDD But depending on how the story of JINGKU goes, I'm kind of looking forward to drawing Taw with longer hair in the story. Q v O GEH. Probably just wishful thinking, but hopefully the opportunity reveals itself at some point. (Worry not. If Taw's hair grows, then the men's hair will grow as well. 8^U!!! Gotta trim dem heads!) On another note, I am very grateful to everyone that has taken the time to read the story and drop off their thoughts here in this discussion! ;W; I didn't know how well the week-long discussion would go since the active reader-base is essentially just a handful of people. 7. Lee probably had a big family before they left their family to serve the Huatai. Perhaps worrying about others is just innately ingrained into him, as well with the Huatai always comes first. So I believe Lee will help out Taw to become an asset to the Huatai. 8. OF COURSE TAW WILL LEARN TO USE THE KUKAOKI. Taw bby must be the very best that there ever was. Finding a way to get back perhaps will happen if Taw really superemly fails at something which I hope doresn't happen.

9. Well the Huatai's king died recently and it really could be an inside job. The Huatai looks super young. I'm not saying that the Huatai isn't prepared considering the Huatai has a 6 PACK OF A GOD, that means the training they did to learn how to become a Huatai is very evident. The dialect that the Huatai has was probably because of a close tutor who has the same dialect as Shu's lover. Because obviously you are going to pick up the way of speaking of the people you surround yourself around. Judging by the Huatai's behavior shown so far... I don't think the Huatai has many close relations other than Lee. (Because Lee is the ultimate Motehr Hen ) This might mean the Huatai has to lug around the Vavoan around lots of places... considering that they already supposed to be the cream of the crop.

10. I'm looking forward to Taw becoming more badarse. Lee showing more Mother Hen traits.... anDDD FIGHT SCENESE. I am a simple person who loves simple thing so maybe more... ABS. Jingku peaked my interest as I really love the opening. "Fence or Pig?" Taws love of family has a really warped dark side at the same time, and will be showcased more and more as the story progressed. How darker will the pure Taw be tainted in the dark. This isn't a fantasy story so there will be very realistic consequences and much heartbreak in the future. Hopefully I'll get to see some nicely timed comedy from the future.

A few peeps that have read the story have spoke about JINGKU as if its a fantasy story with tributes to the Hmong ethnicity. JINGKU is a HISTORICAL FICTION/DRAMA. O v Olll(edited)
