one thing i desperately need explained in the riordanverse is how in the world these different afterlives can just coexist??? currently rereading the lightning thief (of course) and it mentions that mortals see the underworld differently according to their beliefs & i am bewildered as to how that logic works across all the many afterlives of the riordanverse (also if jesus is canon in the riordanverse then why isn’t the televangelist pastor mentioned in tlt in his afterlife???)

I finished Nona the Ninth and.... I was going to make a whole post outlining everything that confused and frustrated me about the book (because there is A Lot) but actually I think I can sum it up much faster. This is a story mostly focused on characters and people, and I often do not care about characters and people. I far prefer worldbuilding to nearly everything else and I think the worldbuilding is there, but it is not really being explained. There is a war happening, and I understand absolutely none of it. I don't understand the sides/factions, I don't understand the politicking happening, I don't understand the goals, I don't know who is leading what or why or where they are etc etc etc. And I don't know if that's a fault on my part as a reader or that it's simply not being explained well. In relation to that, everything is unreliable narrators. And I think I am coming to the conclusion I don't like that. It means I don't know what's actually happening ever and it is beginning to really frustrate me.

ok so usually my personal posts are just me yelling into a void not expecting an acknowledgement but

Someone please look me in the metaphorical eye and tell me that when you have a fifteen or sixteen year old cat with a life threatening illness who is comfortable and in good shape and when you have SPECIFICALLY AGREED WITH HER VETS that her best course of action is palliative hospice care and just making her comfortable especially because she has to be sedated for any exam and is always traumatized for days afterwards

That it is ok if she has some concerning symptoms that you only did a telehealth visit for and they gently reminded you of her care plan consisting of symptom management for literally anything that happened, related to her illness or not

And that you are not some sort of guilty monster if you're looking at her and feeling weird and tortured because you're not taking her to the vet anyway

Because I know it's fine but boy howdy I sure feel guilty having an animal with new symptoms I'm not seeing a vet for

ship what you want, i have no problem with that, but i do think it’s outrageous that the day Piers died isn’t even a memorial for him but a day to celebrate a ship. just goes to show that this fandom never sees him as an individual and doesn’t let him be his own person. which is incredibly sad.

does anyone else have like trouble understanding the hate steve gets? like i get it if you dislike a character or find them boring etc. it doesn’t really need any reasons. but like, people hate steve. and i don’t know why, and by that i mean, when someone says they hate steve i’m like, alright, you do you, and like i might look at their content because i like hearing opposing opinions, and i just want to understand why, and there is never any concrete opinions for why. the only solid reason i’ve heard is the “steve lied to tony” (of witch i don’t actually blame him for) but other than that it’s always just bunch of vague personality traits that mostly apply to tony.

When I was young my dad offhandedly told me he thought people treated fish with so much casual cruelty because fish can’t scream.

The words branded themselves across my soul.

As an adult I think he may have been joking. He payed no especial attention to any indignities fish suffered in our household but I could never forget. I saw fish in a different light after that.

Fish kept in tiny bowls, breathing their own poisons, dying by inches. Fish kept in cold tanks, casually disposed of. Fish touted as being short lived when they could outlive the better loved family dog if only they could breathe. Fish casually won and discarded in cheap plastic bags, thrown away a week later.

How they would scream, if they could.
