Why is Rachel considered a masculin charecter?

Rachel's "masculine" character

That seems to be a common misunderstanding within the fandom, which I also fell victim to for a while. I think it stems from the English fan translation (perhaps even the French licensed translation?) about her in the Character Guide.

Yana-san tried to clear that up a while later, like in tweets or something, but it's still a pervasive misconception.

What Yana-san was trying to say is that Rachel is a strong-willed woman, much like Vincent says of the Phantomhive women. In "With Father" he was mostly talking about his sister and mother, but he probably chose to marry a woman who shares many of the same characteristics.

Rachel doesn't have the strongest physical health, given her severe asthma, but she's clearly (per the Character Guide and Vincent) the disciplinarian in the family, not Vincent. And we've seen her take charge of a situation when Vincent didn't know what to do or say (when real Ciel says he doesn't want to become earl anymore). She's also canonically the one who names the boys, since Vincent says so, explaining to the real Vicar Rathbone that he's no good with choosing names and that Rachel named their own sons.

She's also got a rather raunchy sense of humor (grabbing her little sister's boobs and being openly envious of her for her endowments). Madam Red might have developed her own naughty sense of humor partly influenced by Rachel's.

Idk exactly how the original Japanese words it in the Character Guide, but at least one translation came up with "masculine" to describe her personality. Like I said above, the fandom -- including me -- ran with it. I haven't deleted the old posts I made about it, but there should be reblogs or comments or both on some of the old posts, where I try to clear up the confusion. And there should be some newer posts, like this one, where I explain the misunderstanding.

Rachel's strong-willed and not particularly demure, with her occasionally raunchy and scathing wit. She takes charge of situations when her husband isn't sure what to do. She's the one who spanks the children when they misbehave, and so they fear her more than their father. Some would call this "masculine" of her... and that's possibly how the misunderstanding came about in the first place. She doesn't 100% fit gender norms of the Victorian era. But then again, who truly did?

Personally, I find characters who fit 100% to some stereotype to be one-sided and boring. Rachel strikes me as an interesting, multifaceted character. And we still hardly even know her....

I’ve seen a lot of people post about the multiple books Aziraphale gave away and how surprising it was. It is definitely notable that he gave any books away, but I think the number and context are important.

He went to Mr. Arnold first because he would play a key role in the Ball. After the music shop owner directly said that nothing could get him to attend the meeting, Aziraphale offered him the Doctor Who annual. However, it was in exchange for bringing a harpsichord and a quartet of musicians, with less than 12 hours notice, to the meeting. So it wasn’t just bribery to attend- it was payment for a performing musician. I have no idea what something like the annual would be worth, but I assume it was fair compensation.

The second book, the magic book for Mr. Mott, he offered to lend, not give it.

So Crowley was definitely surprised that Aziraphale gave away a book, but it was just the one and it had a plausible explanation at the time.

Here's a dark hypothetical, but what if, when they were put back together, one of the twins didn't wake up, like there are still two souls in their combined body, but one just...Won't awaken(at least not for a long while anyways, enough time to the point they think the other is gone maybe). So it's just Elio or Archie, how would each react? How would Dahmia react? How would the king and queen react if Archie was the one who awakened, since the physical change is obvious? That also begs the question, how long was it before Archie woke up in Elio's head? Did Elio think Archie was gone when he woke up? How did he react before that? And what does Elio think about their situation and what their dad chose to do(since we know Archie's feelings, he feels angry and betrayed)? Sorry, this is a lot, just got so many questions

The way things shook out would still happen regardless of them both being awake in the same body. They’d both be mourning a lot more, dahmia & whoever is the one that woke up. Even after what Elio did, Arche still loves him, deep down.

Likely with shock, relief that he’s alive, but also some classic parent ‘what were you thinking?!’ In which Arche would tell them the truth, bc he feels his parents are the only ones he can trust unconditionally. The only reason he didn’t tell them about being alive in canon is that he didn’t want them to hurt :(

Arche woke up the same time that Elio did, but he stayed silent for weeks. He was so out of it and so disoriented being out of control, and Elio hates the dark so there was never any true moment of darkness even when Elio would sleep until Arche revealed himself

You would not believe the amount of guilt that he felt before he realized Arche was inside of his head. The sheer soul crushing weight of knowing what he had done to his brother had made him unsalvageable. That they both could have survived if he hadn’t done what he’d done.

Pragmatically, Arche understands his decision. Emotionally? Destroyed. He and his father were very close.
