compression. (sakusa kiyoomi x reader)
Tumblr media
summary: atsumu is the perfect person to feed your obsession with kiyoomi’s arms.
word count: 1172
warnings: swearing, very mildly suggestive (if you squint), detailed descriptions of kiyoomi’s arms in compression sleeves so it’s not for the faint hearted

When you studied Marketing and Communications in university, you didn’t exactly anticipate that your future would include you managing a V League Division 1 sports team. But every day when you went into work, you thanked the gods above that this is where your career path had led you, because that meant you could ogle Sakusa Kiyoomi and his infamous compression sleeves all day.
Oftentimes you were certain Kiyoomi didn’t mean anything by them. For him, they were practical. They kept his arms taut and ready for the ball. They made his movements sharper. He received the ball better. He didn’t have to feel his bare skin on the dirty court. These were all reasons you had heard straight out of his mouth. When you heard him mention them so nonchalantly, it almost made you feel bad for the absolutely sinful- borderline deranged- thoughts you had in your head about the way those sleeves made his arms look.
You were well aware of the kind of thoughts Kiyoomi’s choice of athletic wear caused among his fans. To put it simply and bluntly, they went feral over it. There were whole Twitter accounts dedicated to just his arms, or his chest. And as someone who often managed social media profiles for some of the members, you got to see the most unhinged of these comments with your own two eyes. And you would be the first to (secretly) admit that you agreed with 90% of what was being said, because holy shit did those sleeves do something to you.
Most of the time during practice, you could feel your eyes drift back over to the man in question, wearing a black sports tee and those godforsaken sleeves, working up quite the set as they played set after set to prepare for their next game. As the hours passed, Kiyoomi would get more and more disheveled, curls becoming unruly enough that he would grab a towel, biceps flexing as he ran it over the nape of his neck and dipped into the collar of his shirt. Christ almighty.
You should’ve known that you would eventually get caught. But if it was anyone who would notice, you had expected it to be Meian or maybe Coach Foster. But the person who did bring it up to you happened to be the biggest nightmare in this scenario; Miya Atsumu.
“Ya should be a little less obvious ‘bout it.” He commented when he trudged over to the bench where you sat, grabbing a water bottle and beginning to chug. You tore your eyes from Kiyoomi who now had his back to you, the muscles under his shirt flexing with every movement. You raised an eyebrow at the blond, not yet correlating his words with your hidden obsession. He placed the bottle down and placed a hand on his hip, giving you a knowing smirk.
“A blind grandma could notice the way yer lookin’ at him.”
Your eyes widened and cheeks flamed when he nudged his head in Kiyoomi’s direction, and you knew you had been caught. You clenched your jaw hard.
“You say a single word-”
He threw his hands up as if in surrender, effectively silencing your threat in its tracks.
“I won’t, promise! But there is one thing…..”
You groaned loudly, throwing your head back. Of course, of fucking course he would blackmail you with this.
“What do you want?” You deadpanned, glaring at him and preparing for the worst.
Atsumu looked a bit affronted, as if the mere insinuation that he might want something was preposterous to him. You gave him another tired look, until he sighed and gave up, plopping down heavily on the bench next to you.
“A phone number. Ya know that cute girl who comes by once a month? From the Volleyball Association?”
“No.”
Atsumu’s mouth dropped like a child who just got slapped. “Hey c’mon! Ya didn’t even hear me out!”
You groaned and pinched the bridge of your nose, feeling a characteristic frontal headache begin to build, courtesy of Miya Atsumu. “I’m tired of setting you up with people, Tsumu! It won’t end well, as always-”
“I’ll get you a picture of Omi with his compression sleeves.”
You give him an unimpressed look. “I can get hundreds of those off the internet.”
“I’ll get you a picture of Omi with just his compression sleeves.”
That made you halt in your tracks. You searched Atsumu’s face for any form of mockery or lie, and you found none. Your eyebrows shot up when you realized he was being serious.
“In the locker room. I can get it for ya today.”
Oh my god. Instinctively, your eyes darted over to the man in question, who was talking to Hinata about something. It looked like volleyball tips since he had his arms before him in a receiving position, and Hinata was rapidly nodding to what he was saying.
“No.” You shook your head. “No, that’s wrong.”
“I’ll take a selfie with him, yeah? He will know there’s a photo. And I can send it in the groupchat.”
You look back at Atsumu, seriously contemplating his offer. He kept yapping, as per usual, thinking that the more he talked, the likelier it would be to convince you. And the bastard was right, it was working.
“No one else will bat an eye. We see each other in the lockers all the time. No big deal.”
You bit your lip in thought. The possibility of seeing Kiyoomi shirtless and only in compression sleeves had your pulse rising.
“And you just want her number in return?”
Atsumu nodded eagerly. You gave him a narrow-eyed glare.
“Send the picture. Then I will give you the number.”
His triumphant grin made it feel like he had already won. “Deal.”
That evening, when your phone pinged with a text notification, you nearly flew across the bed to grab it, opening the picture Atsumu sent in the groupchat with eager fingers and freezing as soon as you laid eyes on it.
Atsumu had held up his end of the bargain spectacularly.
He had taken the picture with Kiyoomi a little further in the background, so he could get the man’s full torso in it. He was facing slightly away from the camera, but his face was turned towards it, capturing the scowl between his eyebrows and the little pout of his mouth. He was gloriously shirtless, still a bit sweaty from practice, and he held his shirt in his hand, one arm flexed as he held it while the other was held carelessly by his side, compression sleeves hugging the cords of toned muscles just right.
There was another ping, pulling you out of your trance and making you realize just how dry your mouth had gotten. Atsumu had messaged you privately.
“My payment? ;)”
You rolled your eyes and sent him the number, immediately going back to the picture and starring it for future reference, a tiny smile quirking up the corner of your lip as you did so.

operation : be your boyfriend | yang jungwon
synopsis ; thousands of ways to say, 'i love you,' and jungwon can't even carry out one special procedure without messing up. that is, until your birthday rolls around and you're greeted by the kitten you've always dreamed of owning, at your doorstep...
pairing ; clumsy!jungwon x fem!reader | genre ; fluff, crushing, confessions | wc ; 2721 | warnings n notes ; you're not oblivious, you're just a little bit of a mastermind sociopath! appearances of sunoo riki heeseung and eunchae in this fic!
Tumblr media
baby... i'm just tryna play it cool... but i just can't hide that... i want you ઇઉ
OPERATION 1 : SECRET ADMIRER
“Clearly, he’s not listening to us.”
“Yang Jungwon…”
“Yang Jungwon!”
Jolting back to the present, Jungwon coughs awkwardly and jerks his gaze away from the girl across the room. He didn’t realise he was staring at the mere back of her head the whole time… how embarrassing for him. Shifting his gaze back to his groupmates, staring at him with a bemused expression, he clears his throat.
“I’m on task,” he tries to say, but it comes out as a pathetic croak from the roof of his mouth. He has to clear his throat again.
“What a liar,” Riki scoffs, following Jungwon’s prior gaze all the way to the front of the classroom. Doubled over with laughter by the board, yn seems to have an aura of gold surrounding her figure. In between rays of sunlight and flecks of fairydust, the way she smiles lights up the whole room like she’s in a fantasy book.
Barely trying to conceal it, Sunoo stares towards her direction. Ironically, the words that leave his mouth as he does so are, “can you at least try to hide it? You’re too obvious.”
“I can’t believe she can’t tell yet,” Heeseung mutters.
For some reason, the whole table goes quiet. In the middle of the silence, Jungwon can only hear the clacking heels of their Maths teacher walking around and the soft rustle of papers, amiable chatter as groups begin to complete their assigned project. But a single voice stands out in the crowd.
Never mind. Jungwon only hears her now.
Isn’t it ridiculous? How he believed that his initial crush on her would be short-lived, nothing more than an impulsive attraction that would fade once he got to know her. When she walked up to him, however, saying nothing but a simple ‘thank you for sending me notes for yesterday’s class!’, he felt like his heart would race out of his chest. Unfortunately for him, she was too charismatic.
With a perfect all-kill streak of grades, she’s never gotten a grade below 90. Not a point out of place. It’s the kind of person Jungwon aspires to be, a much better version of himself. Yes, he gets straight As every term and yes he’s been the class president for three years on end, but it’s nothing compared to her level.
For the past two years, ever since she joined the class with an air exuding and radiating sheer confidence, Jungwon has been trying hard to beat her. Once would be enough for him. He’s been trying so hard to defeat her, however, that he’s forgotten to try to tame his feelings for her too.
About a week after he met her, the butterflies churning deep inside his stomach were already too much for him. In her locker, silver letters Jungwon begged Sunoo to help him calligraph donned the bottom of an indirect, vague love letter. From your secret admirer. He doesn’t even remember now what he wrote inside, but he does recall many descriptions of her pretty smile and easygoing personality.
It was only a day later he found out that he had accidentally dropped it in the locker next to hers. Lee Heeseung from the class beside them walked past, a basketball under one arm and the other hand holding the letter and reading it aloud to Riki, walking briskly beside him. In an instant, Riki looked straight at Jungwon across the hallway and facepalmed.
OPERATION 1 : SECRET ADMIRER : FAILED
wait a minute, what is this? my heart is going lub-dub, just keeps pounding
Tumblr media
even from afar, oh, my, gosh! ; pulling me close, you're, my, crush, like a superpower
OPERATION 2 : INDIRECT CONFESSIONS
Daydreams. Flitting endlessly through your mind, like a paradox. It’s impossible to zone out during Biology. How dull you find the zoomed in aspects of all the systems in your body. Sure, you want to pursue something medical-related, but this class just isn’t it.
“Jungwon’s staring at you again,” whispers your seatmate, Eunchae. She uses her pen to gesture behind you. Two seats diagonal to you both, Jungwon notices your glances his way and pretends to look elsewhere. He’s resting on the palm of his hand, the paper he took out to take notes on completely blank.
“I can’t believe he’s the class president again,” you mutter with a tinge of bitterness.
Eunchae sighs. She’s clearly heard enough of your one-sided disliking towards the student leader, and it shows in the way she decides to disregard you. “You don’t have to hate him. He obviously doesn’t reciprocate the hard feelings.”
Of course he doesn’t.
You try to hide a triumphant smile. Of course Jungwon doesn’t harbor any hatred towards you. Rather, it’s quite evident in the way he always asks you to be the first player in his team during PE, asks you if you want to group up with him, makes excuses to brush past you in the hallway – he’s always wanted something more than friendship.
The one time you did agree to do a Korean Language project with him, however, when he came over to record the podcast you had written, all that got done was a bunch of giggles into the portable microphone. Jungwon, admitably, had a good sense of humor. And it, unfortunately, matched well with yours.
You’re making this more solemn than it needs to be, you think to yourself, biting back a small smile to yourself. Shouldn’t it be a good thing that you’ve got Jungwon wrapped around your finger?
Spinning your pen smartly, you sit up. Right. You’ve gotten out of many late homework submissions and responsibilities because Jungwon would literally cover for you with visible hearts in his eyes when he talks about you. You know you should feel guilty for exploiting him, but it’s just what a friend does, isn’t it?
Friend. Another memory fades in.
“Yahh, you’re so down bad you can’t even let her do her own work,” Sunoo mutters to Jungwon, quietly rearranging the papers. He thinks you’re out of earshot, but you can hear their conversation clearly from your desk.
Jungwon shrugs his shoulders in the corner of your eye, and you swear he glances over at you for a second. “She’s my friend. Are you trying to say you never copy my homework?”
Sunoo tsks loudly. “It’s different. She doesn’t need the help! You’ve seen her grades.”
They divert into a small argument about whose grades are better, but you’re not really listening anymore. Your heart is starting to race uncontrollably, and you look desperately down at your chest. You’re trembling from the fact that Jungwon called you his friend? How pathetic. You bite your lip, squeezing your eyes shut as if juicing your brains of unwanted thoughts.
But you can’t help but let out a short curse when your heart doesn’t slow down, your cheeks don’t cool off. Only Jungwon wants this. Not you too…
And so when Eunchae finally gets bored of Bio once again, she leans in and pokes you. “Anyway, you know Jungwon has the fattest crush on you.”
“Oh really?” you murmur, averting your eyes back to the liver diagram in front of you. Where you’re supposed to label, ‘oxygen-rich-blood’, you’ve scribbled ‘only jungwon’ in illegible handwriting. You pretend to act surprised, hiding the words with the palm of your hand. “He didn’t ask you to say that? Did he? As a prank?”
Eunchae rolls her eyes. “It’s not a prank.”
“So he asked you to say it.”
“...”
“I see.” You reach into your pencil case and pull out an eraser to wipe away the traces of your daydreams. It’s a good thing you do, because Eunchae suddenly looks over and teases you for falling asleep in lesson when you’re usually such a good student. If only she knew about the homework incidences. If only she knew about the thoughts that run through your head.
What he’s trying to do is kind of… cute.
OPERATION 2 : INDIRECT CONFESSIONS : FAILED
my heart feels like a giant magnet, everything about you sticks to my heart, boy
Tumblr media
we're magnetized, i admit it. this time, i want!
OPERATION 3 : LET'S GET IT!
She’s got to be joking, right? There’s no way…
“Yeah, idiot, you’re invited to my birthday party. You got a problem with that?” (Name) scoffs at Jungwon, retracting the simplistic black and white invitation card in her hand. “Maybe you don’t deserve this?”
“No!” He says a little too fast, reaching out to snatch it from her playfully.
He reads it with a poorly hidden smile. Is he even trying at this point? He’s been on the verge of a proper confession for a while now. Why would he want to hide the fact that he really really really wants her to be his?
“15 May?” He sighs, feigning disappointment. “Too bad, I can’t make it.”
Wait for it…
“Really? That’s too bad,” she replies monotonously, walking away without a care. Not the reaction Jungwon was expecting. He releases a breath of air, only now realising that he’s been holding his breath. How boring of her.
“I was lying!” He calls, smoothing out his school uniform and running down the hallway after her. “I’m definitely coming!”
She clearly starts to laugh as she runs away from him, yelling, “come or not, it doesn’t matter to me!”
Jungwon doesn’t give up. With a hand running through his hair, he chases her down the halls. He would chase after her for eternity if he had to. Eventually, he catches up to her with a tap on the shoulder. WIth a mock-annoyed look, she slows down, shoving his shoulder.
“What’s your problem?” She huffs, “Can’t I get a break around here?”
Jungwon smiles. With just the right amount of delusion, maybe he can convince himself that whatever she’s spouting is just a white lie. Untruths to cover up the truth. She wants him back, he swears!
“You’ll never get a break,” he mumbles, suddenly going shy as he leans in closer. Just like I practiced with Riki. Just like I practiced…
“Annoyi–”
“From running through my mind all day.”
When Jungwon finally dares to open his eyes (yes, he was so scared he closed them), he’s shocked to see an empty spot next to him. When he looks up and down the hallway, (Name) sticks out her tongue at him, taunting him. The unbothered glimmer in her eyes reveals that she hasn’t heard a thing.
Once again, Jungwon leaves school with a pit of mild disappointment in his stomach. Not so upset that it hurts like hell, but the wound’s deep enough to leave a scratch.
OPERATION 03 : LET'S GET IT! : FAILED
completely opposite, our type ; you're J and i'm so P
Tumblr media
S and N, polar opposites, but that's what pulls us in
INTERMISSION : BABY YOU'RE MY CRUSH
You hear it all.
What would Jungwon say when he finds out, that for a while now, you’ve been wrestling with your own complicated feelings, playing a game of tug of war inside your own heart? Nobody even knows you know. Nobody would even suspect you, of all people, to reciprocate Jungwon’s feelings. And, by this encounter, even Jungwon himself has no idea.
i'll make it have a green light, girl's gotta have guts. so, let's go let's go, let's go let's go!
Tumblr media
don't wanna hide it, the magnet in my heart. gonna follow my feelings and get with you, boy
OPERATION 4 : CATCH SOME FELINES (FEELINGS)
What would Jungwon do for love? Just ask him this one question. He’ll probably lie and tell you he doesn’t know, and doesn’t fall for the traps set out by catching feelings, but it won’t explain why he’s outside (name)’s house on her birthday at 8 in the morning. He could very well have come at 9, an hour before the party starts, but he wants to have some time alone with her.
To present his gift to her, snugly bundled up in his arms. And to, uh, say some other stuff.
He looks down at the pearl-white fluffy being, purring contently in his arms. Just a while ago, he got his inspiration for a birthday gift for her. She may have casually brought it up in the midst of discussion for yet another group project, but miniscule things like that stick with Jungwon for ages.
“I want a cat…” she whines, when their group’s gotten sidetracked from their discussion topic. (what do you think the rate of pet ownership is like in Korea?) “they’re so cute. Oh, even better, a kitten!”
“Just get one then?” Eunchae rolls her eyes, and Riki hums in agreement.
“I would. Even my mum wants one. But it’s so much work to adopt one.”
So much work to adopt one? Jungwon scoffs in his mind. Now take a look at the lengths I’ve gone to for you. And I don’t even know if you like me back. Am I stupid or am I stupid?
“Yes, Jungwon? Can I know why you’ve summoned me so early in the morning?” Suddenly, the front door opens after many persistent tries to ring the doorbell. “I know you’re excited for my birthday… but this is just weird.”
She doesn’t notice the kitten squirming in his arms, still rubbing her eyes blearily. She looks so exhausted that Jungwon wants to apologise for awakening her and almost runs away to save himself from the awkwardness. But he stands his ground. This time, he will succeed.
The chronicles of Yang Jungwon’s confession story. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
“Happy birthday.” He murmurs softly, daring to take a step closer and hold out his arms. At first, she squints down at the blur of fur in his hands, face smeared with confusion. It’s only when the furry ball lets out a small mew that she gasps and jerks her head back up. “I… I, uh…”
Seeing her so amazed, with tears gathering in her eyes from the euphoria, he loses track of his words. His mind goes blank. Not knowing whether to continue calmly, or panic and die on the spot, he struggles to speak and feels his cheeks quickly growing with warmth.
What if, just like we practiced doesn’t reassure him anymore, with the last time he used it as an affirmation turning out to be the greatest embarrassment of his life? Just like we practiced? He’s never practiced to be fluent and smooth. He’s always naturally been that way. He’s never had to fumble for the right words to say. Just like we practiced? When would he ever practice worst comes to worst with Riki? Come to think of it, he probably should have. He can’t handle standing here with such shame any longer.
“I’m sorry for being so annoying I just really really like you and I don’t know whether you’ll like this gift or not, but I can’t go another day thinking you probably don’t like me back you can just reject me that’ll be better than misleading myself forever and ever…”
He blurts in a small voice.
And then, he repeats himself, louder and more confident. Like he usually is. “I like you…”
“You must be blind, Yang Jungwon,” she says, laughing through the tears. A moment of silence passes as Jungwon tries to comprehend what he’s just heard. Blind? Why? She’s not going to say… “I like you, too?”
It’s a question. It makes his heart race, but it doesn’t seem like enough.
“You do?” He chokes, his voice failing him. Blood rushes to his ears. “You don’t.”
“Wait.” She clears her throat and claims, “I got nervous. I do. And it’s not the kitten, I know what you’re thinking…”
Taking a step back, she receives the kitten into her arms and coos while Jungwon tries to process everything. “Though I’m so surprised, and so grateful. This gift is the most thoughtful thing ever. No joke.”
She knows what I’m thinking…
Jungwon frowns and steps even closer. He’s so close and she’s so pretty, teary eyelashes gleaming in the morning sunlight. “So you’ve known what I’ve been thinking, huh?”
“I have.”
The hard, challenging tone that seeps into her voice is all too familiar to Jungwon. When she leads him into her house for the second time in his life, all he’s thinking is, what a way to reminisce the moment he fell in love with her.
“You wouldn’t get it.”
“Oh, but I do!”
A game of wits, you could call it, is what sixteen year old them are playing. Head to head in number of points, they’re competing for first place. Jungwon hides behind his whiteboard, eagerly awaiting her response. She’s never going to guess what he had in mind. She’ll never write the same exact thing, letter for letter—
“I know what you’re thinking.” She whispers mockingly, smirking as she reveals her answer while peeking over the top of his board. The answers match up. She’s won. “I know exactly what goes on in your head.”
OPERATION 4 : CATCH SOME FELINES (FEELINGS) : SUCCESS!
no push and pull, gonna run to you ; our chemistry yeah, i'm in too deep now no push and pull, no regrets, gonna zero in on you ; never holding back straight ahead, yeah

the thing is... JK Rowling did write the books. She certainly did write the books, which was the pivotal first step.
However, here is an incomplete list of people who meant more to my experience of reading and enjoying the Harry Potter books than JKR ever did:
My grandmother, who read them because she loved to read and because she wanted to understand what the hell her granddaughter - whom she'd recently moved 3,000 in part to live near - spent 90% of her time talking about; who passed away this past fall.
My other grandmother, who read them for more or less the same reason except without the cross-country move; who passed away in 2014. It was in her honor that I bought the current set of books I own.
The uncle-shaped family friend who always listened to me expound on my latest theories for the next book, and told me his own like an equal in intellectual debate
That one writer on Mugglenet's fanfiction archive who wrote a crack soap opera fic in which Professor McGonagall got pregnant from Crookshanks, and the children were cat-human hybrids whom they called "kiddens." That haunts me to this day.
Honestly, collectively every single person who wrote content, be it recordkeeping, fic, or analysis, for MuggleNet circa 2005-2008. Some people spent their internet-childhoods on Neopets or Club Penguin; I read every single page on MuggleNet.com.
The summer camp counselor who'd read HBP when I hadn't yet, and who responded to my positively tsundere attitude toward spoilers by telling me straight-faced that Harry started dating Luna [not Ginny]. A) The fucking audacity! she lied right to my annoying 10yo face! B) I got to experience the giddiness of finding out what happened twice, once then and again later when I read the book! Thank you, Natalie(?) from Y-Camp!
The two friends with whom I went to the DH midnight release party at my local secondhand bookstore, in closet cosplay. We were all in the first 5 people to get our books, and we promptly started reading them while standing outside the bookstore, in the light coming through the front window. 1 of them was parentally required to go to bed but the other and I stayed up all night reading, until we finished the books sometime mid-morning.
My dad, specifically when he (still) tells the story of having to make a "walk of shame" (his words) back to the bookstore the next afternoon, to ask if they had the broom we'd accidentally left behind.
The tourists from America, England, France and China who were all waiting in line at the Platform 9 3/4 overpriced photo op in King's Cross Station the same time I was, in the summer of 2013, which unironically made me feel more spiritually connected with humanity as a whole than possibly any other experience in my life. Like, this is embarrassing. It's a pure tourist trap. Yet people from LITERALLY all around the world had all made the same journey I had to be there, just because we all loved the same books. and that's...really special.
...you know? So, JKR is doing real harm to the trans community now, and will continue to do more and maybe even worse in the future; and I am so, so sympathetic and angry about that. I have no intention of giving her money or any other support ever again, nor of encouraging anyone else to do so.
But all her present vitriol is only drops in the lake of my warm memories. I don't let them give me a falsely rosy view of her, but nor will I let her poison them. And I encourage others to let themselves find the same balance, if they can.

“This is it.”
Jeonghan side-eyed his friend as they walked across the grassy quad. “What are you going on about?”
Joshua swept his arms in a comprehensive motion. “This. College. It’s the start of our lives.”
“But that’s what you said when we were freshmen in high school.”
Joshua’s arms dropped as red crept up his cheeks. “Okay, but this is gonna be different. This is us being adults. Conquering obstacles–”
“Joshua–”
“–reaching goals–”
“Joshua–”
“–going the distance–”
Jeonghan closed his eyes as Joshua ran straight into a bench and flipped over, landing on his back. Instantly, the quad filled with laughter. He groaned as his vision filled with stars, trying to get his bearings. It wasn’t until a face appeared that his senses came back.
Was she an angel?
He blinked once. Then twice.
The worry on her face was replaced with relief when she noticed he was alert.
“Oh, good. You’re okay.”
“I think so,” he mumbled, trying to stand.
“Maybe we should wait for the paramedics to get here,” she mused.
Jeonghan nodded in agreement. “Someone’s calling for them right now.”
“Seriously. I’m okay!” A smile spread across his face as he began to rise. It faltered quickly as his legs wobbled.
Jeonghan grabbed his arm, guiding him to the bench.
“Sit. Now.”
“Yes, please do,” she said in agreement.
The paramedics arrived quickly, getting to work on assessing his injuries.
Honestly, he was okay. His head hurt a bit, but they were fussing over nothing. He didn’t need any more embarrassment on his first day as a college freshman. Jeonghan gave her a polite smile.
“Thanks for helping. He’s a little stubborn, but I know he appreciates it.”
“It’s alright. I’m just happy to know he’s okay,” she said with a smile.
“Y/N!”
She looked up at the sound of her name. A group of people were waving to her. She put her hand up and turned to Jeonghan.
“I have to go, but it was nice talking to you. I hope your friend feels better!”
Joshua heard the name from the stretcher, and realization crossed his face slowly. “Jeonghan!”
His friend ran over to him. “What?!”
“Was that Y/N?! As in Y/N Y/L/N?!”
“Uh, that’s a stretch. I mean, there’s a lot of Y/Ns–”
“No…I’m sure of it. That was her!”
“Joshua–”
“Humor me. What if that was her? It’s fate! We were meant to meet once more. It’s destiny–Ow!”
The stretcher dropped, making him bump his head against the bar. Jeonghan shook his head in disbelief.
“This is gonna be a long year.”
---
With Jeonghan in tow, Joshua walked into the student center, looking around. By then, a few months had passed, and everyone had forgotten about his blunder on the first day of class. He thought it best to keep a low profile during the semester.
Joshua was always hopeful of running into Y/N on campus. Occasionally, he’d see her walking around, but every time he tried to speak up, he got tongue-tied, or a group of people would surround her. It seemed like he’d never get a chance.
One breezy fall afternoon, Joshua sat against a large oak tree, strumming his guitar. Jeonghan joined him moments later, dropping down next to him with a plastic bag. Reaching in, he took out some snacks, crunching on some chips while Joshua played. He hummed a few bars before taking out a small notebook. Jeonghan noticed a worn folded piece of paper fall out and scooped it up.
“What’s this?”
Joshua yelped, trying to reach for it, but Jeonghan pulled it out of reach. With a grin, he opened it up and read the contents. His eyes widened as he turned to his friend.
“I can’t believe you still have that letter.”
His face warmed as he snatched it away, stuffing it into his pocket. “It’s not that serious, Jeonghan.”
“Oh, is it not? Cause keeping a letter you wrote countless times back in high school to a girl who didn’t know you existed is pretty strange.”
Joshua rolled his eyes before returning to his guitar, strumming the strings absentmindedly. Was he being delusional at this point? Should he just give up on his crush?
“Maybe I’ll give up. It’s stupid,” he mumbled.
Jeonghan frowned slightly, noting how Joshua’s mood had darkened. The last thing he wanted was for his friend to be down.
Joshua returned his guitar to its case and stood up. Jeonghan looked at him curiously. “You got class?”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “I’m done for the day. I might go back to the dorm to study. I’ll see you later.”
He waved before walking off, leaving Jeonghan alone. Leaning against the tree, he sighed heavily. He had to get Joshua out of this funk somehow.
But what to do?
Something fluttered in the corner of his eye. It was the letter from Joshua’s pocket!
An idea began to form in his mind, making him chuckle.
Yep, this might work after all.
---
Y/N sat there toying with the straw from her milkshake, bored and only half listening to the conversation around the table. Honestly, did they have anything worth talking about? There had to be more to life than when the next party would be or how many kegs they could drink. Still, she humored her friends, offering a laugh now and then.
“Right, Y/N?”
She blinked, looking up from her milkshake. “Huh?”
Her friend Irene rolled her eyes before sipping her diet Pepsi. “Were you even listening?”
She shook her head as a groan surrounded the table. She shrugged sheepishly. “Sorry. What were you saying?”
Irene sighed heavily. “The party—the one the Sigma Lambdas have every fall for Halloween—is happening this Friday.”
“Oh,” Y/N said, distracted once more. “Oh, yeah. I guess I’ll come.”
“We have no choice. Plus, Mingyu is gonna be there,” Irene added.
Y/N’s nose wrinkled in distaste. “And I would care because…”
“Jeez, Y/N, get with the program. Your boyfriend is gonna be there .”
“Correction, ex-boyfriend, and that makes it all the more reason not to go.”
Irene let out a noise of exasperation. “I don’t get you sometimes. If anything, this is the perfect opportunity to go and prove you don’t need him.”
“Whatever. We’ll see how I feel,” Y/N grumbled.
It wasn’t like her friends would listen anyway. She dated Mingyu all through high school. Meeting him on her first day, they became the ‘it’ couple and were at the hip. While they seemed like the quintessential high school romance, Mingyu was relatively immature in many ways. It was too much their senior year, and Y/N called it quits. He took it so well, insulting her intelligence and saying she’d regret it, but that only solidified her decision.
Of course, this was after they promised to go to the same university together, and now she was stuck with him for another four years.
Again, she ignored her friends' discussions and stared out the window, sipping her milkshake. When three fraternity brothers from Sigma Lambda Theta walked into the cafe and approached their table, Y/N and her friends looked up with interest.
“Heard you ladies were coming to our party,” one said.
Irene nodded. “Yeah, wouldn’t miss it. Heard y’all have a lot planned.”
Seungcheol eyed Y/N curiously, nudging Soonyoung. He pointed his chin towards her. “You’re Y/N?”
Her brow lifted in interest. “I am. And you’re Seungcheol?”
“Heard a lot about you.”
“Is that a fact?” she chuckled, sipping her milkshake. “Can’t always believe what you hear.”
Seungcheol smirked with a nod. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Soonyoung grinned. “Don’t forget to wear your best costume. Masks included.”
“What are you going as?” Y/N inquired.
The shorter of the three shook his head, rolling his eyes. “Please don’t get him started. He hasn’t shut up about it all month.”
“Jihoon, lighten up. You’re just jealous.”
“Sure.”
Seungcheol cleared his throat, shooting the girls a smile. “Anyway. Gonna be a great time,” he shot Y/N a look. “Save me a dance?”
Y/N shrugged with a laugh. “Maybe. I like to keep my options open.”
“Sounds good to me. See y’all later.”
As the guys walked away, a glint flashed in Irene’s eye.
“What do you think about them, Y/N?”
“Them? Them who?”
Irene frowned once more, shaking her head in disappointment. “You acting clueless? The Sigma Lambdas! Isn’t Mingyu trying to pledge? Wouldn’t showing up with the frat's president as your date be funny?”
Y/N sighed in exasperation. “I’m really not trying to date right now. I’d rather focus on my studies–”
“All I hear is blah, blah, blah.”
“What do you want me to say? It’s not the end of the world. I mean, they are cute, but–” she argued.
“Whatever Y/N. If you want to be alone, that's fine, too.”
“Life isn’t always about having a boyfriend, Irene.”
“You worry about what you do, and I’ll worry about me,” Irene retorted.
Y/N stood up from the table, nearly knocking down the drinks. “I guess friendship isn’t the biggest priority either.”
Without another word, she stormed off, leaving the rest of them alone in the cafe.
---
The next few days passed without much drama. Even though Y/N and Irene made up, there was still some tension between them, regardless of their saying everything was okay. So many things ran through her mind that her concentration was off in class. Only one day after one of her lectures, the professor called her up as the class was leaving for her to notice.
Y/N slung one strap over her shoulder, gathered her books, and approached her professor’s desk.
“Yes, Professor?”
He pulled up a file, flipping through the papers. “I normally wouldn’t say anything, but you’ve been doing so well in class, Miss Y/L/N. Is everything alright?”
Damn it.
She nodded her head, trying to smile. “Of course. Maybe I'm just a little burnt out this semester with my credits, but I’m okay.”
He sighed, handing over a folder to her. “I’m going to give you a chance to work on this research paper again. I know you can do better than this. I’ll accept it next Friday.”
“Alright. Thank you.”
Slipping the folder into her bag, she walked out of the classroom, her thoughts swirling. It wasn't until the last minute that she bumped into Joshua coming out of the building. She jumped with a start as her books fell to the ground. Joshua blinked, staring at her before scrambling to pick the books.
“Are you okay?”
She willed herself to smile, taking the books from him. “We have to stop meeting like this. How’s that bump on your head?”
Joshua sheepishly grinned as he rubbed the spot.
“I'm never gonna live that down, but I'm alright.”
Now that she was in front of him, he was too nervous to speak. Did she even recognize him from high school?
Clearing his throat, he tapped her shoulder politely. Y/N turned to look at him curiously.
“Yes?”
“Your name wouldn't happen to be Y/N Y/L/N, right?”
Her brow quirked. “Um, yes. Why do you ask?”
“Well
“Y/N!!!!”
She looked past Joshua with a frown.
Mingyu was walking towards her with Seungcheol. His smile faltered as he saw Joshua standing next to her. “No fucking way…Bambi goes here!”
Joshua’s face paled upon hearing that name. Of all the people who had shown up here at this very moment…Mingyu had managed to graduate and get into a university?!
His knees buckled as Mingyu’s hand slammed into his back in greeting. Joshua had to hold the wall to keep from dropping to the floor. Y/N’s eyes glanced from him to Mingyu in confusion.
“Bambi?”
Mingyu rolled his eyes with a laugh, nudging Seungcheol. “Dude always looked like a deer in headlights, especially when he was our mascot and got tackled.”
Seungcheol started to chuckle as Joshua attempted to back away slowly. Mingyu grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him into a headlock, giving him a noogie. Joshua grunted, trying to loosen his grip.
“So what you doin’ talking to my girlfriend, Bambi?”
Y/N scoffed with a roll of her eyes. “Ex-girlfriend, Mingyu. And let him go, please. Let’s be adults.”
A pout formed on his face as he let Joshua go reluctantly. “Seriously? Y/N–”
“Save it,” she snapped. Her expression softened as she took Joshua’s hand into hers. “Walk me back to my dorm?”
His eyes widened in surprise. “U-Um s-sure!”
“You’re sweet.”
She smiled, barely acknowledging Mingyu and Seungcheol, as she walked out of the building with Joshua in tow, still dazed by the unfolding events.
Mingyu’s eyes narrowed, watching the pair walk off.
“That geek is gonna pay,” he mumbled, storming out of the building.
---
Joshua hardly touched his drink as Y/N placed it before him. She removed the wrapper around her straw and stuck it in her milkshake. Her brow quirked in interest.
“Sooo. You went to our high school?”
Joshua finally grabbed his cup and took a generous sip. “Uh huh.”
Her lips turned downward, trying to recall his face. “I don’t know why I can’t remember you.”
He shrugged, trying to shake his disappointment. “I-It’s not like you would have noticed. We didn’t run in the same circles.”
Something about that statement made her stomach drop. Sure, she’d been what you’d consider popular, but Y/N was pleasant with everyone she came across.
“What were you into back then?”
Joshua sat back as the tension slowly drifted from his shoulders. “Band, mostly marching and pep. I was in the film club and tried out for the soccer team, but…yeah.”
Y/N nodded in understanding. “You seemed to have a lot of interests. I’m surprised we didn’t run into each other.”
“Well, Y/N, we have been in the same classes since freshmen year.”
Her cheeks felt hot, and Joshua fumbled as he tried to change the subject. “I-I’m not saying it like it’s a bad thing. It’s just how life happens. Our school was big, so it’s okay.”
The relief passed her face. The last thing she wanted was for someone to recall her being self-absorbed.
A smile formed on her lips, which he returned wholeheartedly. “Well, it’s time for new beginnings.”
“Agreed.”
After a brief silence, she looked at him and asked, “Are you good with music theory?”
His brows lifted as he nodded. “Oh yeah! I took those in high school! Do you have any questions about it?”
“Do I?” she said with a laugh. Y/N pulled out her research paper and handed it to him. “I got an extension to write a better one.”
He flipped through the pages with a hum. “I see. Do you want help? I’d be happy to give some insight.”
Y/N beamed at him. “I’d owe you a huge one!”
Joshua smiled. “That’s not necessary. How about we meet Friday night at the library to discuss the details.”
Realization dawned on her as her smile faltered. Joshua’s brows knitted.
“Is something wrong?”
“N-No, it’s just there’s this party on Friday–”
“Oh. Well, you should go.”
She sighed, falling back against the booth cushion. “That’s the problem. I really don’t want to.”
“So don’t go,” he reasoned.
“It’s not that simple–”
“It kind of is. Don’t force yourself into things just because your friends want to,” he interrupted. His eyes widened again, and red crept onto his face.
“I-I’m sorry. That wasn’t my place to say.”
Y/N let out a genuine laugh for the first time in weeks. “Honestly, that was the most honest response I’ve gotten. People always try to hide the truth.”
“Some people suck,” he said matter-of-factly.
She nibbled on her bottom lip. “Why don’t you come to the party?”
“M-Me?”
“Why not? It definitely would make my night better,” she exclaimed.
He looked at her in astonishment. Y/N sipped her milkshake, trying to cover up her bashfulness. “I mean…the more the merrier, ya know.”
“I’ll see what's going on that day,” he decided. He was not ecstatic about the invitation but didn't want to get his hopes up. Being near her was almost enough for him.
“Okay,” she said, trying to hide her disappointment.
They returned to idle chatter the rest of the time, realizing they had much more in common than each had known. He eventually said his goodbyes, promising to give her the paper back after he made any edits. Walking back to his dorm, he thought about their time together. Y/N was amazing in so many ways. Joshua would have fallen even deeper in love with her if he hadn’t already fallen madly in love.
He stopped in his tracks.
Love?
Shaking his head, he unlocked the door with a scoff. What did he know about love?
The letter.
Damn it.
That letter.
Groaning to himself, he walked inside to Jeonghan, who was reading at his desk. Jeonghan looked up from his book at his friend's expression.
“You alright?”
Still in a daze, Joshua plopped on his bed, blinking. “Y-Yeah.”
Jeonghan hummed, going back to his book until Joshua spoke up.
“I spent time with her.”
“Her?”
“Y/N.”
Jeonghan placed his book down and faced Joshua with interest. “What? What happened?”
Joshua recalled the events the best he could, grimacing at the part when Mingyu appeared and his conflicting feelings about the party.
Jeonghan let it all sink in before talking.
“Well, now you gotta go to the frat party.”
“Yeah, but Mingyu’s gonna be there.”
“So? Y/N personally invited you. It seems she wants you there, and that’s enough. Who cares what everyone will say? We’ll have fun, you’ll see.”
Joshua sighed heavily, looking up at the ceiling. He was taking a chance. This could be the start of something great or crash and burn in utter disaster.
Time to take a gamble.
---
When Y/N and her friends arrived, the party was in full swing. She watched as people ran around the house throwing balloons filled with water. Irene screeched, jumping in place as one splashed by her feet, nearly getting her costume wet.
“Watch it!”
Irene let out a sound of exasperation. “Do I look okay?”
Y/N fought to roll her eyes.
“You look fine.”
Irene beamed as she twirled in the black, red, and white plaid two-piece. She adjusted the hat on her head. “We’re gonna be the popular people here. Clueless was a hit!”
Y/N adjusted the skirt on hers. She would have instead gone as Dionne, but Irene insisted she be the Cher. Arguing would have been fruitless if she wanted any attention on her, so Y/N just went with the flow. Heads indeed turned as they walked by. Seungcheol appeared out of nowhere, clearly red-faced from the alcohol.
“You made it!”
Y/N held back the eye roll from Irene’s giggles.
Seungcheol gestured to them with the beer can in his hand. “You’ll be the girls from that movie, right?”
“Like totally!”
He grinned, setting his gaze on Y/N. “Would you like something to drink Y/N?”
Irene pushed past; a Cheshire grin spread wide. “We’d love something to drink.”
He chuckled, watching Y/N’s reaction. Y/N held back the eye roll, threatening to appear.
“C’mon, I’ll show you where the drinks are.”
They followed Seungcheol into the kitchen. The entire counter was covered in various drinks, from malt beverages to cheap vodka, anything to get someone entirely buzzed. Mingyu stood near a silver basin, stirring the bright red liquid. He looked up, making eye contact with Y/N as he waved. Grabbing a few cups, he poured the liquid in, adding some pineapples, strawberries, and oranges.
Y/N stared at the cup in scrutiny as Irene happily sipped on hers.
“This is so good! What is it?”
Mingyu tapped his glass against Seungcheol’s. “We call it carat juice.”
Y/N’s brow raised, giving him a deadpan stare. “Wow, so clever.”
“I thought so,” Mingyu answered with a smug look.
She sighed heavily, looking around for anything to get her away.
“Just enjoy yourself tonight, Y/N. It’s the least you can do. You’re being so uptight,” Irene taunted.
What the hell was wrong with her? Irene had been doing too much lately, and Y/N was letting her ‘friend’s’ words get to her.
“Fine.”
She chugged the drink back, trying not to cough at the alcohol burning down her throat regardless of the sweetness in the cup. She wiped her mouth off and ran towards the dance floor. Maybe sweating for a few hours would help make her numb to the whole thing.
Joshua and Jeonghan walked inside, looking around at the scenery. Very few people were wearing original costumes. Most were dressed in bedsheets as ghosts or togas.
“You sure we got the right costume?”
Jeonghan shot Joshua a look. “No one else is gonna have it.”
Suddenly, someone shouted from across the room, " I'm a dude. He’s a dude. She’s a dude. So we’re all dudes!”
A snort passed Joshua’s lips, and he waved, giving a thumbs up. Jeonghan gave him a smug look. “See?”
“Fine. This was the way to go.”
He adjusted the paper hat on his head before smoothing the striped blue and white shirt. Okay. So maybe Jeonghan's idea of being a Good Burger employee wasn’t a bad idea after all. As he got more comfortable in his skin, he opened up more to talk with the people at the party.
“Oh, you play the guitar?”
Joshua nodded as he sipped his drink. The guy slapped his back, causing his knees to buckle. “We always have a jam session in the quad in the afternoon. You should join us.”
“BAMBI!”
Joshua let out an audible groan.
Shit.
Mingyu pushed through; cheeks reddened from the alcohol. Joshua tried not to recoil from the smell of his breath. Wrapping his arm around Joshua, he waved his cup, slooshing the liquid all over the floor.
“Didn’t think you’d show up,” he slurred.
Joshua removed his arm, sidestepping away from him. “Uh. Yeah. I was invited.”
“Who’d invite you?”
“I did.”
Both men looked up as Y/N appeared, the growing crowd parting for her to pass. Joshua felt his heart still as she smiled at him.
“I’m happy you made it, Joshua,” she said.
“T-Thanks,” he gushed out.
Y/N gave him a nod of approval. “I like your costume.”
“I like yours too,” he said with a grin.
Feeling neglected, Mingyu glanced between the two, not liking how the conversation was going. He managed to get Seungcheol’s attention. Both men nodded, and devious grins appeared.
Y/N smiled at Joshua, cocking her head in the direction of the kitchen. “Wanna get a drink? There’s this jungle juice–”
Red liquid splashed over Joshua, covering him from head to toe. Laughter erupted around the room. Y/N looked shocked as Mingyu and Seongcheol bent over, shaking with laughter. The empty red cups were enough evidence for her.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!”
Mingyu snorted back a laugh, trying to look serious. “What? It was just a joke.”
Y/N shot Joshua with a sympathetic look as Jeonghan appeared, handing him a crumple of paper towels. Joshua tried to wipe off the liquid in vain, feeling the stickiness cover his skin. Trying to keep his cool, he walked up, heading up the stairs without a word. Y/N snarled as she punched Mingyu in the arm with a hiss. “You’re such an asshole, Mingyu!”
He shrugged, giving Seungcheol a fist bump. “Eh, what else is new.”
Shaking her head in disgust, she stormed off as everyone watched in awe.
Joshua found himself in a bathroom upstairs, trying to avoid getting the stain out of his shirt. Luckily, he ran into Woozi, who you called Jihoon before. That frat member was kind enough to tell him about the bathroom away from the crowd while he got himself together.
“Remember not to close the door all the way. The knob sticks.”
He threw the towel into the sink. It was useless—both the stain and possibly talking to Y/N.
“Maybe it’s just not meant to be,” he mumbled to his reflection. He couldn’t go back out there. It didn't look like that. He sighed heavily and sat on the toilet seat, a dark cloud hovering over him.
Jeonghan found Y/N quickly. She sat outside, away from the smokers, attempting to get some fresh air. He stepped closer until she noticed him standing near her.
“Hi. You’re Y/N, right?”
She looked up, guarded at first, as her brow quirked.
“Do I know you?”
Jeonghan stepped back, giving her some space. “I'm sorry. I’m Joshua's friend. You probably don't remember me, but we went to the same high school.”
“Oh,” she gave him a small smile. “Sorry, it’s just been kind of crazy tonight. What’s your name again?”
“Jeonghan,” he answered. “Listen, have you seen him? I’ve been looking for him for a while.”
“No, I was just about to go look myself.”
“He can’t be too far off. This house isn’t that big. Wanna help me find him?”
She nodded as he gave her room to walk. Just as Jeonghan turned, something fell from his pocket. Y/N paused, seeing the envelope with her name on it. She picked it up, twirling it between her hands.
“Jeonghan?”
“Hmm?”
She held up the envelope before his eyes. “Why do you have something with my name on it?”
Oh shit.
Jeonghan shrugged, letting out a scoff. “I didn’t drop that.”
Y/N crossed her hands over her chest, tapping her platform boots on the deck. “Oh really? So this just magically appeared before you?”
“Yep.”
“Are you serious?”
“Yep.”
Her eyes narrowed, looking it over. “Well then, it’s no big deal if I open it, right?”
“Yep–wait! No!”
Jeonghan lunged forward, tripping as he tried to grab the letter. Y/N pulled it out of reach with a smug look.
“So obviously, this means a lot to you, but it has my name on it.”
“D-Don’t read it! It’s not mine to give!”
She stared at him, waving it in front of his face. “Then who did?”
Jeonghan dropped his head in defeat. “It was Joshua,” he mumbled.
“What was that?”
“It was Joshua…he wrote it.”
Her eyes widened in surprise. Suddenly, the envelope felt heavier than usual. Should she open it? Something was always there in the few times she ran into Joshua. She wasn’t sure what it was, but she felt so much at ease in the little time she spent around him. It wasn’t like with her friends. She didn’t need to put on an act.
“Should I open it?”
Jeonghan wiped off the dirt from his costume as he stood up. “Honestly, it’s up to you, but whatever you decide involves you and Josh.”
Biting her lip, she glanced from Jeonghan to the envelope before sliding her finger under the flap. The notebook paper was stained with age, and the creases were deep from constant folding. The black ink was partially smeared on the paper as the words looped along the lines.
Her eyes scanned the words, silently reading them to herself. Jeonghan watched the emotions change on her face with interest. What could she be thinking? Y/N cleared her throat as she folded the paper and placed it in her pocket.
“Excuse me.”
She ran off back inside the house. Jeonghan secretly patted himself on the back.
Joshua, you owe me.
Y/N ran up the stairs, looking for anyone familiar. Towards the end of the hall, a door was propped open. She knocked on it gently, waiting for an answer. When none came, she stepped in to see Joshua leaning against the window, eyes closed.
“Joshua?”
His eyes fluttered open as his head turned toward his name. His jaw dropped when he saw her standing in front of him.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah. Are you okay?”
“Uh–”
Y/N started to close the door, looking at him with concern. “Are you sure?
“Wait!”
Y/N jumped in surprise just as the door shut behind her. Joshua tried catching the knob to no avail. Groaning, he leaned against the counter.
Y/N violently shook the doorknob, but the stubborn door did not budge. She gave a few sharp knocks, pausing to listen for any voices.
Nothing.
Joshua shook his head in disappointment. “Told ya.”
“Yeah. Thanks,” she snapped, leaning on the door.
Joshua scoffed as he stared at her in disbelief. “What’s your deal? It’s not my fault. I tried to warn you about it.” She sat against the sink with a defeated sigh, looking anywhere but at Joshua. But he didn’t warn her.
“So we’re stuck?”
“Yep. I doubt anyone will come this way. The party is loud enough they won’t hear the knocks or us.”
“Lovely,” she said, rubbing her eyes.
He glanced at her curiously. “Not to be rude, but what are you doing here?”
Y/N gave him a stern look. “Duh, looking for you.”
“Why?”
“Well–”
“Felt bad about your boyfriend spilling his drink on me?”
She could hear the hurt in his voice. “He’s not my boyfriend, Joshua. You know that.”
“Do I? Wasn’t this some ploy to mock me?” His tone was accusatory.
Y/N’s jaw dropped in shock. “What? No! Why on earth would you think that?”
He shrugged, fiddling with the buttons of his shirt. “I don’t know. People suck.”
“You think I’m like them?”
Joshua met her gaze, seeing the sadness in her eyes. He was projecting, and he knew it. In frustration, he ran his hands through his hair. “No. No, I never thought that. I’m sorry, Y/N.”
“It’s okay. I understand. People do suck. Maybe I was like them before, but I don’t wanna be like them anymore.”
He nodded in understanding. “That’s mature of you.”
“Hardly.”
The quiet fell between them, with only the muffled sound of the music in the background. Y/N pulled the letter out of her pocket and opened it up.
“It may sound silly, but nothing else seemed to matter when you walked into my life. I spent so much time wondering how or when I’d speak to you. If I ever shared a space with you, I’d thank the stars for this opportunity.”
Joshua felt the blood drain from his face. She had his letter! How? Why?
“Y/N–”
A small smile appeared on her face as she put the letter away. “You wrote this when we were in high school?”
Instantly, the blood rushed to his face as he tried to hide his expression. “It…embarassing enough as is. I didn’t mean–”
Her lips pressed to his, stopping him midsentence. Joshua’s eyes widened in surprise, and his limbs stiffened. It took a few moments for his brain to catch up when he finally kissed her back, wrapped his hands around her waist, and pulled her close. His heart hammered loudly, and he swore he could hear hers, too. It seemed like hours passed before they broke apart. Y/N blinked a few times, trying to catch her breath.
“I never do that.” does he mean he never would have done that?
“D-Do you regret it?”
She shook her head with a laugh. “No. No, I don’t. You’re a great kisser.”
“As are you,” he answered with a smile.
“Joshua–”
The door to the bathroom crashed open, breaking them apart. Jeonghan, Seungcheol, and Mingyu stood in the doorway in shock.
“Thank goodness Woozi said where you were.”
Mingyu stepped forward with a snarl, pointing at them.
“So what's this?”
Y/N let out an exasperated sigh. “What are you talking about, Mingyu?”
“You two together?”
“Why do you care? We’re not, so anything I do has nothing to do with you.”
His jaw clenched as he stepped towards her. Joshua pushed himself between them as Mingyu stared hard at him.
“Bambi, move.”
“Don’t call me that, Mingyu. You’re being an ass. Stop while you’re still ahead.”
Mingyu shoved Joshua, who staggered back. Y/N grabbed Mingyu’s arm. “What is wrong with you?! Have you lost your mind?”
Mingyu yanked his arm away as Y/N was pushed back. Jeonghan and Seungcheol tried to grab Mingyu when Joshua swung, his fist connecting with his cheek with a dull thud. Mingyu fell against Seungcheol with a groan. Jeonghan looked at each man in surprise.
“Shit. Nice job, Joshua.”
He hissed, shaking his fist, and pushed past the group, walking away. Y/N placed her hand on Jeonghan’s arm. “I’ll go.”
It didn’t take long for her to catch up with him.
“Joshua,” she called.
He stopped walking and turned towards her. Looking down at the ground, he sighed. “Sorry. I just needed to get out of there. Are you okay?”
“I’m not glass. I’m pretty tough,” she answered with a smile.
He laughed, shaking his head. “I don’t doubt it.”
Y/N paused before speaking. “I like you, Joshua, before the letter. I was just too scared to say something,” she explained.
“And now?”
Y/N felt the warmth crept into her cheeks. “I think my kiss was proof enough.”
He took her hand into his, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“I think we deserve to get ourselves some breakfast. What do you think?”
Y/N stood on her tiptoes, wrapping her arms around his neck. A grin appeared on her face. “Only if you’re treating.”
He chuckled, placing another soft kiss on her lips. “Deal.”

Days passed by, nor you or hanbin has made an effort to talk again. you missed him, and he missed you too. the more time passed by, the more you realize that you couldn't stop thinking about him. you lost your focus in lectures, forget to submit assignments, spend all night studying but forget it the next day. the straight A's you managed to obtain started to decrease day by day, so you had no other choice but to overwork yourself, pushing your limits further in order to not disappoint your peers. and it seemed to have worked, the more you pushed yourself, the less you thought about hanbin.
Little did you know, hanbin noticed your change in demeanor. even though he was surrounded by his friends, he couldn't help but think of you the same way you've been thinking of him. on times where the two of you were in the same lecture, he'd often glance at you typing away at your computer or rubbing your eyelids. he noticed the particular black underlines beneath your eyes. he noticed how clumsy you were nowadays, tripping over or dropping your books. he noticed how you bite on your nails and furrow your eyebrows when you can't solve an equation. he noticed them all.
he wanted nothing but to explain everything to you, to clear up the misunderstanding that's been going on for years, but something inside of him tells him it wasn't the right time. so he stuck to the one thing he was good at, admiring you from afar.
------------------------------------------------------
"y/n can you take these documents to professor lee? thank you!" one of your peers spoke from behind you, dropping a stack of heavy files on your arms and before you could retort back, he had already walked past you, slinging his arm on some random girl and walking away as you struggled to balance your books and the files you now had to deliver.
from the corner of your eye you could spot hanbin talking to his friends, you thought he didn't notice you but he felt your stare and unconsciously looked towards you. In a panic, you quickly averted your gaze but something had slipped in front of your feet making you trip on said object. the files you were once holding were now scattered on the floor, thankfully there weren't too many people around but still, your face flushed beet red out of embarrassment.
"oh god i'm so sorry!" a voice rang through your ears and suddenly there was a brunette kneeling in front of you, helping you pick up the files you dropped and standing up to offer you a hand.
you took his hand and stood up groaning from the pain. a sting was felt on your right knee and you sigh when you see a newly formed bruise, similar to the ones you used to get as a kid. the man in front of you also seemed to notice as he mumbled more apologies.
you finally looked up to the said man to see that it was one of the guys in hanbin's huge friend group, seok matthew.
"I'm so sorry, it's completely my fault i didn't see where the ball was going, please forgive me i'll do anything!" he bowed 90 degrees to you and put his hands together. you assumed he was a freshman like you from the way his overly polite attitude and you couldn't help but chuckle.
"it's okay, i was also at fault for not paying attention, just be more careful next time.. both of us that is." he looked back up, his eyes visibly relieved as he gave you a wide smile. he offered to help you carry the immensely heavy documents and gave you a band aid for the bruise on your knee.
you weren't sure, but from the corner of your eye you could see hanbin clenching his fists and his eyes held an emotion between sadness and anger, but you brushed it off as nothing as you continued your way to the professor lee's office with matthew.
------------------------------------------------------
you and matthew started hanging out more, he would accompany you when you were studying in the library, share you his lunch when you forget yours, and constantly follows you around. you didn't exactly mind his presence but everytime you looked at him you could only think of his friend, the thought of that made you feel guilty for matthew. he had done nothing wrong but you just can't seem to reciprocate his efforts to befriend you.
you were currently eating lunch and studying with your dorm mate in the dining hall. your head felt dizzier than usual, your eyes couldn't focus on the words written on your textbook, and to top it off there was still a stinging bruise on your right knee that you covered with some baggy jeans. suddenly, the chair in front of you creaked and you looked up to see matthew.
"hey, can i sit here?" he pointed at the seat across from you, smiling to you and your friend.
"umm, sure?" your friend responded as she continued to eat her food, paying him no attention as she was busy taking notes from your text book.
"y/n what's your next lecture?" matthew spoke as he put down his eating utensils, now gazing at you with a thin lipped smile.
"i think it's humanities and social science, why? are you also gonna be there?" you ask curiously as you put a spoonful of food in your mouth.
"oh what a shame.. mines art and culture, but i think my friend hanbin is also going to your lecture after this." you almost choked on your food only from mention of his name, gulping down your water to cover it up.
"that's great.. sorry matt but i think i should go now i have a lot of studying to do" you were lying, you were almost done revising the whole semester's lessons and the truth was you were planning to go to the bathroom or get some fresh air in hopes of easing up your head ache.
"wait, i'll walk you there since your hall is near mine." before you could take more steps, matthew appeared beside you with his usual bright smile.
you would feel even more guilty if you rejected him so you just nodded at him in response. While the both of you were walking, matthew constantly initiated small talk with you.
"how was your day?" you'd respond with a fine and ask him back.
"what were you studying before?" you showed him your textbook and he replied with an 'oh' while nodding.
you felt extremely bad for not reciprocating his bright energy like you usually could, but your feet were aching and the head ache got worse. you could barely think straight and you didn't want to hurt matthew's feelings so you used the last of your consciousness to look like you were enjoying his conversations.
but that was short-lived as he took notice of your obvious struggling.
"y/n are you okay? you're really pale and sweaty." he had stopped walking, going in front of you and holding onto your shoulders while one hand tried to check your temperature.
"no matt, i don't have a fever it's just a minor head ache it'll go away." before you could assure him with a smile, your body went limp and your eyes blacked out.
------------------------------------------------------
matthew who was standing in front of you thankfully caught you before you fell to the ground. he stood in panic, holding both of your shoulders and keeping you upright.
"y/n? hey are you okay? y/n!" he shook you a few times and seeing that you weren't responding he did the most logical thing he could think of, calling sung hanbin.
matthew sat you down on the floor with your back touching the wall, a few minutes passed after the 10 second phone call with him and hanbin and for a moment matthew thought his friend wouldn't even show up. but he was wrong, hanbin rushed out of his lecture room, the one you were also supposed to be in as he ran to the location matthew told him.
when he arrived, the first thing he saw was your limp body leaning on the wall. hanbin wasted no time and picked you up bridal style, he even forgot about the existence of his friend that called him there.
"hyung! I'll take her to the infirmary, just lead me there." matthew stopped his tracks, holding his wrist as his voice was stern.
"no it's fine i'll take her, just go to your next class matt." even though hanbin was slightly annoyed, he still smiled warmly to his friend.
"but i.. okay fine." matthew couldn't do much, he just accepted it and walked back to his class even though he was still worried about you.
the moment matthew started walking away, hanbin was already speeding across the campus heading to the infirmary. on his way there, he couldn't help the way his heart was beating abnormally fast. he was almost mad at himself for not taking action beforehand, why didn't he notice your symptoms earlier? could he have prevented this from happening? thoughts ran through his head as he was running hastily, his footsteps echoing the halls. People stared, but he simply didn't care.
upon arriving at the infirmary, hanbin gently laid you down on the beds and called a nurse to inspect you. a few moments later you fluttered your eyes, the light above you hitting your eyes making you squint. on your right you saw a figure of a man who seemed to be deep in thought, remembering the previous events, you called out to him.
"matthew?" you spoke in a low voice, squinting more to focus your eyes on the silhouette.
it was when you realized who it really was, you quickly averted your gaze. the boy seemingly sighed, bending down to be eye level with you before speaking.
"please look at me y/n." his voice was soft and gentle, as he was trying his best not to frighten you. you took notice and it made your heart almost melt.
but every muscle in you was rejecting the man's plea, his eyes were the reason you fell for him, his eyes were the reason why you were hurt when you realized you could never stare into them again. you feared that if you oblige, you might experience the same longing again, the same infatuation again, and of all the same hurt again.
carefully, hanbin placed the palm of his hand on top of yours, radiating a certain warmth that you missed so badly. the more he waited, the more his confidence faltered. you took notice of this from the way he gradually hung his head down more and more, now the both of you were staring at the floor in a tense atmosphere.
hanbin was about to retract his hand, but you've had enough of beating around the bush. you held him by the wrist before he could move one more inch, mustering up all the courage you never thought you had in you.
"explain." one simple word.
you didn't know where the confidence came from, maybe it was from seeing hanbin so defeated that it awoke something in you. you eyes finally met his, hoping the anxiety behind yours wasn't evident enough for him to see through.
the moment your eyes meet, the spark that was once lost in hanbin's eyes came back almost instantly. to you, his stare was deathly. accompanied by his endearing smile and whisker dimples, you were right, you definitely fell in love again.
his free hand reached yours as he put both of your hands inside his in a protecting manner. he caressed the back of your palm sweetly with his thumb before beginning to speak.
"first of all, i'm sorry. i'm sorry for everything." never once did he break eye contact with you, mumbling these words sincerely and you know he's going to mean everything he says.
"I'm going to be honest with you, 100%. during high school i messed up and i know that. i never meant to hurt you but i did and you don't know how many nights i spent thinking about it. no excuse could cover up my mistake but i'm going to tell you what really happened because you deserve to know."
"you know how my sister often has sport tournaments, one day fell when she was rock climbing so i had to check up on her. mom was too busy taking care of the cafe and dad was also severely ill at that time. one day, i received a call from mom telling me to go back home. at first, i thought i would just be staying for a few days but those days became weeks and those weeks became 3 years. areum fractured her right leg and someone had to take care of dad, i'm sorry if this feels too sudden for you, you don't have to forgive me but please just talk to me." you were stunned, but you had one last question.
"why didn't you reach out to me?" the question that kept you up at night, you hoped he'd continue to answer truthfully.
"because i was scared."
for the first time, he looked down at his lap. tears were starting to well up in your eyes, you were angry at his excuse but you held yourself back from lashing out and let him explain himself.
"i can't hold it anymore y/n, the truth is i like you, shit no i love you so so much. you don't know how nervous i was to tell you about my sudden leave, hell i could barely sleep at night. i was an asshole, the biggest jerk and i didn't deserve you. i thought it was impossible for you to like me back, so i left." a single tear slid down your cheeks, you were mad at him, so so mad but you couldn't do anything but let more tears fall down.
"fuck you." your fist hit his shoulder, he had his own pool of tears welling up but he continued let you hit his shoulder, chest, and arm as if he was accepting his punishment.
but you weren't that angry, you knew deep down that was what you would've done if you were in his position too. run away from your feelings, because that's what you also did.
you get off the bed and kneet down in front of him, the tears staining your cheeks with your nose becoming beet red. you were going to land another fist to his chest when his hand stopped you, pulling your wrist as you crashed into hanbin's chest and now sitting on his lap. he wasted no time but to embrace you, cradling your head with one of his palms as the other lays on the small of your back. you shut your eyes, breathing in his cologne as you bury yourself in the crook of his neck. hanbin had his head on top of yours, caressing your soft locks as he breathed in your scent.
you both stayed like that for a while, enjoying each other's embrace as the peaceful silence took over. slowly, you retracted your head from hanbin's neck and gazed into him before speaking.
"i hate you for the times you made me cry in my bed for nights on end, i hate you for leaving me behind so suddenly, i hate you for only explaining everything to me now. but i can't help but fall for you each and every time." you just finished crying but you feared if you continued further then you'd start crying into hanbin's chest again.
with your words, hanbin leaned closer until your noses were touching. his right hand coming up to cup your cheeks almost feather-like.
"may i?" you didn't verbally respond as you wasted no time to connect your lips with his.
the kiss was tender, soft, and compassionate as if your lips were molded together. those years of build up led to this, feeling a warmth erupt in your chest as you savored your first kiss. hanbin put his free hand on your waist, pulling you impossibly closer.
when you finally let go to catch some air, you stared into his eyes withholding all types of emotions but there was one particular emotion that stood out the most, love.
your eyes flicker to his face, seeing how he somehow became even more handsome. suddenly you understood all the hype about him, you smiled shyly feeling your face turn crimson red as you realize the position you were both in.
"oh uhm, sorry." hanbin muttered, his own face turning bright red as you got out of his lap.
"soo.. does that mean i'm your boyfriend now?" hanbin asked, biting his lip in anticipation while you were holding in a giggle.
"yeah.. i think." you answer timidly, as you were facing each other with a bigger distance this time.
you couldn't help the smile that crawled onto your face in response, hanbin's face copying yours. sitting on the ground of the infirmary, you two looked like a high school couple who just confessed their love to each other.
"oh, i have one more favor to ask!" hanbin chirped, looking a bit more serious this time.
"if you overwork yourself one more time, i'm breaking up with you." you knew he meant that in a playful way from the way he was holding in a smile.
"Yes sir, understood." you both erupt into a pit of giggles, enjoying each others company as minutes pass by.
you couldn't believe it, the campus heart throb was betrothed to you out of all people! it all felt unreal to you and hanbin felt the same way. the childhood best friend he'd been crushing on badly for years on end was finally his, suddenly he didn't care as much to become an idol because now his life revolved around you, the love of his life who made him fall in love over and over again.

I just saw a TikTok about the fears and motivations of TMAGP and I don’t think I can sleep until I get this out.
So the main big bad(s) of The Magnus Archives was the fears and their entities and artifacts. All the main characters and statement givers, if not the rest of the world, were effected by them. Motivated by them even.
Even if someone wasn’t experiencing one of the fears firsthand, a connection to someone who has or even just a read through of a particular statement could motivate one to do so much.
Jon had The Web first. He experienced Mr. Spider at such a young age and his fear of spiders carries on for as long as he does. Then it was The Eye, the position he presumably worked so hard for turned out to be far more sinister. He was trapped and he was paranoid and he was surrounded solely by other paranoid victims. And yet, this fear did nothing but push Jon to do more research, to find what was going on, and to fix it. He was scared and he was tearing himself and his relationships apart but he saved the world, at least once.
Martin was Lonely for a long time, making him a perfect candidate to be taken under Peters Lukas’ wing. He was isolated from the beginning, watching his family and friends drop one by one like flies. Close to the end he felt he had no choice but to give in. He probably knew it was wrong to give himself up to The Lonely but if that meant saving what was left that he cared for, he’d do it every time.
Tim was such a doting big brother who lost his other half in such a devastating and horrific way. His brother was picked off by The Stranger when his curiosity got the better of him and his best friend was murdered and replaced and he didn’t even notice for months. His fear turned to aggression and his aggression turned to vigor to research and fight to do his damn best to stop The Unknowing, and he did.
In The Magnus Archives, fear and trauma is what motivates people. It’s the rush of adrenaline that gets people moving and fighting. And while sometimes it’s also to get something they want (a better world, to save someone, revenge) there is always trauma that comes first. You cannot have the motivation and obsession shown in TMA without having experienced the fears in one way or another.
I think The Magnus Protocol is going to flip this on it’s head. Instead of fear fueling motivation, it’s going to be motivation that leads to the fear and trauma.
Gwen is a perfect example of this. She’s so dedicated to her job and so obsessed with filing things accurately so that she can work her way up to the managers role. And I think her precision and dedication to the statements and the knowledge they hold will put her straight into The Eye’s influence, or maybe even The Web.
Sam is a similar case, his curiosity about the files is going to lead him to something unsavory that he won’t be able to get out of.
In The Magnus Protocol everyone wants something. Gwen wants power, Sam wants knowledge, Colin wants to get ahold of this strange computer system, and I think Chester and Norris most all want each other.
I think Jon and Martins love for each other, their wanting to be together and still sacrificing that in hopes of bringing the world back fundamentally changed the way this world operates. They wanted to be together so they came back in the form of our little text to speech bots, they will always be together now, even if that means being trapped in a desktop from the 90’s.
The Magnus protocol is going to be about wants, and I think that is going to be apparent very soon as Colin works on the app more and as Sam dives deeper into the files and as Gwen works her way up the corporate ladder.
It may even be that these characters become entities because of their wants. Like the woman in episode two who wanted to perfect her art and herself at the cost of her physical appearance and relationships. It really wouldn’t even shock me if my the end of this all of our main characters will have succumbed to a fear in some way, except for maybe Alyce.

An awesome team (in the making)
Sneak peek at the "Life with Derek"-inspired AU
*****
The door of her locker got slammed shut, and Julie jumped like a startled cat. But she did not scream. Most certainly not.
“Nice voice, Molina.”
Okay, maybe she did scream. Just a little.
Julie huffed, frustrated. She recognized that voice. Of course, she did.
There was not a single student (or member of staff) at Los Feliz Performing Arts School who didn’t know Luke Patterson’s voice. Because Luke was a lot of things – but never, NEVER, silent.
Scowling, she turned around, and there he was: Luke Patterson with his ridiculously outdated haircut, washed-out band tee, and ripped jeans. Oh, and his stupid grin that was absolutely not adorable. Nope, absolutely not.
“What?!” she snapped at him.
“Whoa, hold your horses.” Luke raised his hands in mock surrender, but his grin turned into a smirk. It did not make Julie’s heart stutter! “I come in peace.”
Julie scoffed, though she wasn’t as upset by his ambush as she would have been under normal circumstances. Actually, she had meant to talk to him.
While they shared a handful of classes and used to be in the music program (before Julie had dropped out), their paths didn’t really cross. They moved in completely different circles. Before her mother’s death, she’d mostly hung out with Flynn, Carrie, and the other girls that formed Dirty Candi. These days, it was just Flynn. But still!
Luke, on the other hand, was in a rock band. And as far as Julie could judge, that was all he ever cared about. He most certainly did not care about school. Luke was chaotic and disruptive, and Julie wondered if he would stay until graduation. With his silly outfits and questionable antics, he was the walking cliché of a rebellious punk-rock teen straight from the early ‘90s.
So, yeah, they did not mingle. Usually.
“What do you want?”
“Covington assigned partners for the group project.”
Julie frowned at him. “He never assigns pairs.”
“True,” Luke said, rocking on his heels, hands behind his back. Julie sighed. Luke was always like this. Too bouncy. Too fidgety. There was too much energy in him. But today, it seemed worse than usual. “But he did this time.”
Julie huffed. “Great.” That was just great. So much for the grandiose plan she and Flynn had been working on. “Well, thanks for letting me know—”
She cut herself off, caught off-guard by the look on Luke’s face. His smirk turned more sinister, and there was a manic glint in his eye. A horrible realization dawned on her. She gaped at Luke. “No!”
“Yup!” Luke beamed at her and even had the audacity to pump his fist into the air.
Julie didn’t buy it. Folding her arms, she eyed him suspiciously. “Mr Covington hates you.” He’d never team them up.
“He does,” Luke confirmed without a care in the world. His expression turned smug. “Meanwhile, you’re the apple of his eye.”
Julie paled first, then a hot flush blossomed on her face. “I’m not– He–”
Luke smirked triumphantly, and Julie groaned.
“Fine, whatever,” she snapped. “But you better don’t mess this up, Luke.”
Luke saluted. His smile never wavered. “Don’t worry, Boss. I’d never.” He winked at her. “We’re gonna make an awesome team, Julie.” And then he turned and bounded down the corridor to where his friends were waiting for him. There was a fucking spring to his step.
Julie let out another groan, annoyed. Luke wouldn't put in any effort into this project. He never did. She rolled her eyes as she turned to her locker again.
However, when she opened her locker again, she couldn’t help the smile that crept on her lips.
For once, the universe was working in her favor.

'Til You Drop (Leviathan Obey Me! x Reader)
just playing with levi until you fall asleep
Warnings: none
956 words
gender neutral reader
("..." means timeskip)
.
.
.
.
.
You were lying on your bed, slowly getting more and more bored. You were about to get up and do something (by “do something” you mean go be nosey) when your phone made a sound.
Looking at the screen, you saw it was Levi:
>>
Y/NNNNNN HURRRYYYYYYY UPPPPP!!!
I NEEEEEED YOUUUURRRR HELLLLPPPP!!!
>>
After hopping off your bed, you ran out the door and down the hall to Levi’s room.
When you got there, you knocked on his door.
Knock, knock, knock.
Instead of making you say some kind of password Levi yelled,
“Y/NNNN, GET IN HERE!!!!”
You burst in, making sure to close the door behind you. Levi sat in front of his TV, with a look of determination and distress. You sat beside him to his left. He paused the game and looked at you.
“Good. I need a healer and you’re perfect. Beel was horrible, he never healed me! What’s the point of playing healer if you don’t do your job?!”
He handed you a controller then scooted a little closer, leaned over, and began explaining what certain buttons did.
“This is to move, obviously. This one is to use your ability. This is to block. You use either of these to dodge.” He said, touching the controller and brushing your hand with his in different places. His face wasn’t too far from yours.
“This is for a basic attack that can be aimed at allies to heal them.”
Levi sat back straight and looked at you. His orange and purple eyes smile into yours.
“Do you think you got it?” He asked.
“Yep!” You replied, smiling back at him.
“Good.”
He put his game face on, eyes filled with determination and a smirk on his face. He faced the screen.
“Y/n and Levi…”
He unpaused the game.
“GOOOO!!!!!!”
The room was filled with the sound of buttons clicking. Both of your eyes were ultra glued to the screen, the bright light of attacks and explosions colored your faces and filled your eyes. Until, finally, you entered the last stage. The game began loading, saying that it was downloading more content.
He turned his head toward you.
“Alright, Y/n, prepare for an ambush. We’re gonna take out the small guys and then charge for the big one since they heal him, okay?”
“Yes sir!” You said, nodding.
Blush adorned his adorable face.
“Oh, sorry, I was really into it, heh…” You apologized awkwardly.
“N-No, you’re f-fine.” He replied quickly.
You both turned your attention back to the screen. It was at 90%.
“Ready…” Levi said as you both leaned over.
“CHARGE!!!”
.
.
.
“We did it! Whoo!”
Levi exclaimed, his hands over his head, still holding the controller in his right hand.
You held out your right fist for a fist bump.
He stared at it for a moment and put his arms down as a pink blush slowly tinted his cheeks and nose. Finally, he raised his left fist and lightly bumped it with yours.
“You did awesome, Levi.” You complimented.
His blush got five shades darker. He looked away from you. “You’re always so nice.”
You laughed.
He looked back at you looking over your features and outfit. He lifted his eyes and made eye contact with you.
“Ah! I-I’m sorry…” He yelled as he turned away from you. He lowered his voice and mumbled to himself. “...Totally caught me staring…”
“O-Oh, yeah there’s this cool puzzle game that came out a couple of days ago.”
Levi took the controllers, stood up, and walked over to his tv. He began setting it up, kneeling on one knee, his back to you as he continued speaking about it.
“I’m sure you can help me get all of the endings. Since you think differently…i-in a good way, you know.”
“Hey, Levi?”
He looked at you from over his shoulder.
“Hm?”
“I like hanging out with you.”
Levi gave you a closed-eye smile, a slight tint of blush on his cheeks. “I like hanging out with you too.” He turned back to setting up the game.
When he finished he sat back down beside you.
“I just wish it could be you and me.”
He held out a different controller. You took it and smiled at him.
He fiddled with the controller in his hand. “I mean it, Y/n.”
Levi looked back at you. “I want to keep you all to myself. I don’t care if it sounds selfish……You’ll keep playing with me, right?”
You nodded. “Of course, Levi. I’ll play with you until I drop!”
Levi laughed. “Lol, I like your determination. You better stick to your promise though.”
.
.
.
“Alright Y/n, you ready for the next…oh…”
You lay on his floor clearly asleep.
“You really did play ‘til you dropped, huh?” Levi asked out loud. He took out his phone and looked at the time.
“Ah, 3:27…”
He looked back at you.
“Well…I can’t have you sleeping on the floor…” He looked over at the bathtub.
Levi settled you down in his bed. It was a lot comfier than you thought. “There,” Levi stood with his hands on his hips, proud of himself.
“Ah…where do…….where do I sleep…?”
He looked down at you. “I don’t wanna……fine…”
He lightly shook you and whispered your name. “Y/n…”
Your eyes fluttered open. “Levi…?”
Levi stood over you, a shy smile on his face. “May I…um…”
“...Yeah, it’s your bed, Levi.”
“Oh…um…okay…”
Levi settled into his bed, you snuggly in his arms, facing him. “D-don’t let anyone else do this with you, okay?”
“Mhm.” You hummed half asleep.
“Good. Good night.”
“Good night, Levi.”
“I…love you, Y/n.”
“I love you too.” You mumbled into his shirt as you drifted to sleep.

This Time We Make A New Start
Rookie/After Re2!Leon Kennedy x GN!Reader (mostly platonic, but can be read romantically)
Roommate Series
Summary: The daily routine of you and your roommate, Leon Scott Kennedy.
Takes place in modern time, not in the 90s because I felt like it and you can't stop me.
Word Count: 1050
Genre: Can be seen as fluff, just some fun roommate stuff
TW: profanity, mentions of depression and suicide, reader takes medication (self-indulgent type shit), if any others plz lmk (not beta read, we die like luis)
Inspired by: Does Anybody Have a Map? from Dear Evan Hansen Light Behind Your Eyes by My Chemical Romance
++++
5 am every morning. The most annoying alarm going off every. Single. Morning.
No snooze either. Your roommate wouldn’t let you.
“Y/N! Wakey wakey!” He screamed from the hallway of your apartment.
How could he be such a morning person? He was 22 and being trained to death for some secret agent organization or whatever. Well again, so were you.
When Raccoon City went down, the same thing happened to your city, which was a small bit away from Raccoon. You were the sole survivor. You and Leon were both recruited and became partners. Due to training a lot and getting along, you chose to live together. It’s not like you had anywhere else to be, your home was gone, and you needed a new place to stay near the training grounds. It had been one year of you two living together. It may be chaotic, but if it weren’t for him and if it weren’t for you, who knows where you two would be? Depressed? Suicidal? Dead? You were all each other had.
“Yeah, yeah, I know!” You shouted in response, jumping out of bed quickly. You put on some socks and slippers and left your room and made a path to the bathroom.
The door was closed, so you knocked. “Ocupado!” Leon spoke from the other side of the door.
“Hurry up, I need to brush my teeth!”
Soon after, you heard a flush and the sink turned on. Then, the door opened. “It’s fine, I just needed to piss,” He smiled at you and stepped aside, letting you in. “I gotta brush my teeth too, so you have to deal with me.”
“Fine, fine,” You agreed, squeezing to the left side of the sink while Leon went to the right. You both grabbed your toothbrushes, then Leon reached for the toothpaste to put some on your brush and his. “Whoever finishes first doesn’t have to make breakfast,” You challenged, immediately starting to brush your teeth after.
“That’s not fair!” He squeaked, quickly getting to brush his teeth.
You won.
“Cook!” You bumped him, rinsing your mouth and putting your toothbrush away. Walking out of your room, you hear Leon finish and catch up to you.
“Take your meds, dumbass,” Leon elbowed you in the side. “Can’t have you crying at the training grounds,” He chuckled with a wink and sped up his pace to get to the kitchen to avoid the backlash.
“Oh, shut up! That’s not how it works!”
“Just swallow them, gobble them already!” You heard him laugh from the kitchen while you walked back into your room to both take your meds and get dressed.
You got into the standard training clothing that was provided for you and some running shoes. Once finished with all you needed in your room, you quickly exited and rushed to the kitchen.
“It’s 5:30, hurry up and eat or else we’ll be late,” Leon spoke, putting a plate of eggs and toast in front of you. “I’d rather not have to do non-stop fights until I win 5 in a row again. Some were fucking knife fights. I’ve been here for a year, jesus fucking christ,” He complained while he sped through eating his food.
“Hey, I had to do agility training for 8 fucking hours straight! If I failed a chase, I’d have to start from the start and lose all of my progress,” You groaned and took a bite out of your toast. “They’re trying to get is fucking killed.”
“I guess that’s to help us survive in whatever… else happens to us,” Leon sighed.
You could tell he was thinking back to Raccoon City. His face had dropped and he had gotten quiet. It was times like these that you knew you two needed each other here. “Don’t worry, one day I’m sure you’ll be able to beat the shit out of Krauser, and it’ll be the most satisfying moment of your life.” You chuckled and hoped to bring the smile back to his face.
Leon let out an amused huff. “Yeah right,” The smile slightly returned. That was all you needed.
You stood up to go to the fridge for some milk, but once you opened it, there was no milk. “Leon, did you drink all the milk?” You turned to him in annoyance. He looked away and pretended to not hear you. “You’re paying for the next gallon!” He leaned back in his chair and groaned in response.
“Oh fuck, we gotta go. Traffic is being shit right now according to the news,” Leon stuffed down the last of his eggs, standing up and rushing to his room to get dressed.
You grabbed your bag that sat by the front door that you had already put fresh water and spare clothes in and waited for Leon. “If you don’t hurry up, I’m leaving without you!”
When you finished your sentence you saw Leon rushing from his room basically hopping on one foot while he tried to slip on his other shoe. “Hold the fuck on, geez!” He finally got the shoe on, grabbed his bag by the door, and the hung up car keys. “Got everything?”
You saluted him. “Yes, Agent Kennedy.”
“Oh, shut up,” He chuckled, opening the door and letting you out first as he quickly followed behind you.
It wasn’t perfect living that way. Knowing what you were doing for a living, being forced into this, having to go through what you two went through. But without each other, that light in your eyes would have faded a long time ago. You weren’t sure how long that light would stay there, knowing it was fading day by day, but you knew with Leon by your side it would take a bit longer. And he knew that with you by his side, he’d have more hope to hold on to.
It had hurt to say goodbye to all your friends, all of them had met their tragic ends. All the people you wanted to save, and with every passing day you felt that survivor's guilt and the feeling of missing them all.
For them, you didn’t want to lose this fight. But you couldn’t do it alone.
You two needed each other, to save the light behind your eyes.

“Since I didn't like her straight away but it was hard to find people that felt the way I did at the time I actually googled "people who hate Meghan Markle" and Tumblr popped up.” I’ve been BRF fan since the 90s and William was the good looking, athletic guy reluctant to be king one day and Harry was the fun-loving party Prince. I thought Harry would be William’s Princess Margaret (sometimes wayward but fiercely loyal and do all of the social engagements the monarch didn’t/couldn’t do). I watched when Catherine came on the scene and then Chelsea and Cressida. Harry absolutely had a type, tall, blond, from a good family. Then we get to 2016 and there are rumors he’s dating some random American actress who no one has heard of with some dime a dozen blog and on some basic cable legal show that she’s not even the star of. Let’s face it, Suits is not Law&Order or SVU. Not to mention, she’s short, brunette, and not from a connected family. She appeared out of nowhere and all of is sudden has a VF cover? I thought for sure he’d end it then because none of his previous girlfriends talked about their relationship with him but Meghan did. Then there’s IG in Toronto and “the statement” and I knew she was going to be trouble. She made damn sure everyone knew they were together. She still does it, referring to “my husband” and Duchess of Sussex on every article ever written since they married. Superficially, she looked smug as hell too.
Harry absolutely had a type, tall, blond, from a good family. Then we get to 2016 and there are rumors he’s dating some random American actress who no one has heard of with some dime a dozen blog and on some basic cable legal show that she’s not even the star of.
Yeah so when the news started coming out that he was "possibly" dating this divorced American actress I was like "yeah right..." then when it came out she was half black i thought "not a chance in HELL is this true" because let's face it...this is the guy who wore a Nazi costume and was known for throwing around racial slurs. No way was this story true. Then it WAS true and I thought, eh maybe he is turning a new leaf. Of course there was talk he didn't know she was half black until they had been dating a while and he was afraid to break up with her because he didn't want her to call him a racist.
While all of this was going on we got the spooning banana Instagram post and then the coffee cup with bracelets IG post. When that came out and you saw she was baiting someone into connecting the dots so she could FINALLY brag about her once in a lifetime catch I thought "she's toast...nothing Harry hates more than someone flaunting their relationship and talking to the press." Because at the time Harry was way more tightlipped about his life than William. Harry guarded his privacy fiercely and was known to drop people faster than a hot potato if they talked about him to the press. I never thought the relationship would get past this point.
Then Love Shield 1.0 and I was like you..."uh oh...we are in trouble here..." Also because there was ZERO evidence she was being harassed and she claimed in the statement. There weren't hundreds of paps chasing her down the street like Kate or Diana. In fact, it seemed that Meghan was courting and LOVING the attention. Smiling big and bright at the cameras and making sure to wear her "H" necklace. This is when I knew she was a manipulator and a liar.
Then when she was in London and kept walking in front of the Daily Mail offices to get photographed. She looked ridiculous walking around London in her "wellies."
When "Wild about Harry" came out I 100% thought "that's the end of her" so when they were engaged shortly afterwards you could have knocked me over with a feather I was so shocked. I expected breakup news, not an engagement.

oh my gosh fellow animation student !! I love learning about other people's art school experience, if you'd be willing to share? I think the diversity of assignments and teaching styles and focuses is cool 🩷 love your art as well !!
Yeah I can share a bit ! I’ve really enjoyed the program so far, I think I’ve learned a lot and I’ve gotten the chance to use programs I wouldn’t have access to usually!
First semester I had 9 classes (I’m counting story lab + lecture as two separate ones) and it was honestly pretty difficult to keep up with the workload, especially because I was still finishing up zine work. I had so many assignments, there were many weeks I’d have something due everyday, sometimes multiple things in the same day, so time management was a big struggle and I ended up having to sacrifice the amount of drawing I did for fun and for socmed </3 I think that was the biggest bummer cause it meant I lost both what helped me relieve stress and something that made me happy :/
While the work was intense and time consuming, I really did enjoy what I was making for each class. My favourite classes were character design, storyboarding, and animation. I felt like they were the ones I did best in and I realized loved my animation teacher her classes were really fun and I laughed a lot lol. I also really enjoyed my life drawing class, I have a lot of respect for my teacher, he marked harshly but I learned so much under him and my life drawing skills have improved a lot since september. He also collects bones and brought them in and it was super cool. He told us all the stories of were he’d picked them up, like asking farmers or finding roadkill and cleaning them.
Overall in each class, I really appreciated the critique I’ve gotten and I feel like I’ve really improved! I actually dropped out of art school before and one of the main reasons was because I felt like I wasn’t really getting anything out of the program. My stuff was nowhere near perfect but I was one of the better students so teachers used my stuff as an example rather than see me as a student that also was there to learn. I hated that so I left, and I’m really happy I don’t feel that way in the program I’m in now!
What I will say though is one of the hardest lessons to learn is that you can’t go 100% on every single thing, it’s just straight up impossible unless you don’t take care of yourself and get no sleep. It sucks because you want to do your best and be amazing at everything, but an assignment that’s half assed is better than handing in nothing at all and also better than permanently hurting yourself because you push through the pain and don’t allow yourself any rest.
One of the things that sucked the most assignment wise was my bone portfolio for life drawing, I had so much planned out and I really wanted to do amazing, but I had to cut a lot out to get it done on time, and so the finished project was lacking a lot. I got a decent mark for it, but personally I know it could’ve been so much better, and I just have to live with the sacrifice I made so I could get all my work done on time lol
I don’t want to share too much more about the assignments I did, but I was really proud of my work in my character design class and also my last storyboard assignment, where we took part of a script and made new boards based on it. I got a lot of compliments from the teacher about my attention to detail with subtle and human actions. I’m happy cause that’s the kind of stuff I love portraying and love seeing in films haha.
One other thing is I was so close to failing layout, the last two assignments I left until the very end and almost didn’t get them in one time before teacher’s grades were due, and without them I would’ve failed the class. As it stands, I got over a 90 average so the two assignments made a big difference lmao.
Sorry this was so long lol

Let me say it like this.
After reading the manga, I had this sense of " Usagi, the girls and Mamoru are going to be good as long as they have each other". After everything we saw them go through in those five arcs ,it was a sense of that everything is going to be good. After everything Usagi went through in her five arcs and especially with StarS arc dealing with Galaxia and Chaos , that she is going to be ok as long as she still have her hope, her friends and her love which her love for the Girls and Mamoru are strong to conquer anything. That even tho it is still going to be darkness becasue of Chaos, she will always be the light . Even tho the girls didn't get any character development in StarS because Galaxia was taking them out left and right, the character development they gotten in Dream Arc made me felt they even tho they dream was to protect Usagi and the planet , I still feel like they will still able to pursue their dreams and they was going to be ok. It's a bittersweet, happy and satisfying ending seeing Usagi and Mamo get married and the girls happy with them. It's bittersweet cause you know they still have to the darkness but it's happy because everyone is alive and got each other. Yes, You want more but it gives you enough that you know it's going to be good. As long as they got each other, they are going to be ok at whatever comes their way. Naoko was able to do that in 60 acts and some side stories which the manga is short. Hopefully Crystal will convey that message.
With PGSM, I had the same feeling seeing Usagi and Mamo getting married and as they ride onto the sunset, they was going to be ok and the girls as well.. Seeing Mako and Motoki together engaged, Rei properly going to be at the shrine, Ami going back to America to finished her studies to become a doctor, and Mina going back on the road. They all doing their own thing but if one need the other, they will drop what they are doing to be for each other. It's also an satisfying ending since you know where everyone started and you get to see where they end which have a sense of everything going to be ok.
With the 90's anime??
Nope
I'm going to be straight honest. I am so glad they didn't end the series with the wedding because it would have been unbelievable.
I watch Episode 200 and I feel a couple things at once
Usagi is not in a good place with herself and she honestly needs therapy to deal with all the trauma she faced, to find her voice, and to heal.
Her friendship with the girls are barely there which to me it's not strong and she honestly needs distance herself from them because they are not good for her.. ( I mean when the girl dream about them they pretty much say negative things about her which they do in real life.)
I love Usagi and Mamoru to death but they honestly need to break up because she seriously dealing with self- esteem issues if the last thing she's asking him after 200 episodes are yall going through so much shit if he love her. Still be friends and support one another but not be together until they both can stand individuality and as a couple.
The girls need to go their sperate ways as well to actually grow and realized their own trauma ( because they didn't really grow in the 90's anime). Also realize how they treated Usagi and each other was not good.
Usagi needs to give Luna to Ami because she's never going to heal with negative feedback in her house like that.
Luna needs to realize how she treated Usagi and correct her behavior..
Like a series finale shouldn't make you feel that these characters still have ALOT of growing up and work to do because they had 200 episodes to do the work and growing up. They haven't got them to a place where they you know they they going to do more growing up off screen unlike the manga and PGSM.
It is very unsatisfactory to me because I watch 200 episodes with these girls and I want them to do is not be friends anymore, for the main couple to break up and the main character to seek therapy, get rid of her cat ,and get new friends in order for her to find herself and stand up.
Every Usagi dealt trauma but why 90's Usagi is the only one that I feel like that is not in a good place and don't need to be around her friends? That her friends are not good for her because how they treat her? That she needs to know her self-worth and place in the world before even thinking about getting engaged let alone getting Married to Mamoru?
I SHOULDN'T FEEL THAT WAY!!
I should feel happy, feel like they are going to be good and if everything comes their way after Galaxia they can make it.
Not them go their separate ways and Usagi handle things on her own.
It may give everyone else closer but to me it give me nothing.

How did you fix your sleep problems?
it kind of happened in four stages, and once i'd done them all i woke up one morning and was like, huh.
first, i started watching asmr videos. i almost immediately realised they put me to sleep, but it took me an incredibly long time to realise i could use this power... to go to sleep.
second, a GP gave me this amazing tip about how sleepiness is a 90 minute cycle, and at the top of the cycle you have about a 20 minute window to actually fall asleep. if you miss it, you might as well stop trying to force yourself to sleep until you cycle back around again and turn a light on and fill the time until you're sleepy again. once i started paying attention, i found it really obvious that a second wind is really just coming out the other side of that 20 minute window. instead of seeing that "second wind" as evidence that you don't need to go to sleep, the thing you should be looking for is the start of that drop into sleepiness so you can jump on it and actually take advantage of it.
third, and this was like a solid two years later, i did all the things they say you should do for good sleep hygiene. got rid of the tv in my bedroom, stopped using my bed as a hang out place and only used it for sleep and sex, got rid of half the blankets i was using, no eating before bed. etc etc etc. i don't think these things along would ever have helped with my inability to fall asleep without tossing and turning for hours, but once that was sorted (see step 1), it did cut the pre-sleep process of waiting for my body to "get sleepy" much more straight forward to make use of the sleepy cycle (see step 2).
last one was more circumstance than anything. so, even though i had sorted out the how of getting to sleep, i didn't really have a good sleep pattern. i was working a full time job at a supermarket where my hours were 3pm to midnight and the end of my week was saturday night, so i could wake up whenever i wanted and i'd come home at 1am and pass out. then i finally got a job at a law firm. hooray! i finished my last full time shift at midnight saturday night, and i started at the firm at 9am monday, where i would be working regular business hours 5 days a week for the first time in my entire life. i had, thankfully, all the things above at my disposal, and this forced me to suck it up and put all of them into practice and give myself a proper bed time every night. and i did.

Badland Dancing
This is what happens when you let gay people do anything
Anyway,COLLAB TIME WITH @arczism AND SHE MADE ART FOR THIS AND LET ME TALK HER EAR OFF ABOUT IT AND INSPIRED MOST OF IT SO GO LOOK AT THE ART FOR IT
Dating V meant a lot of things. Sometimes it meant 2am clean ups when he went on jobs and didn’t go straight to Vik, sometimes it meant not seeing him for two days and getting spoiled when he got back as an apology, and it also meant trips to the Badlands.. Not the ideal date or vacation but Kerry endured it regardless.
V would get him all dressed in head to toe gear, which normally turned into jokes about how long it was gonna take him to get Kerry out of it that night, but also it smelled like V and Kerry loved it. He stole his clothes as disguises anyway, but maybe it was also a tad bit of Kerry’s possessive side coming out, letting people know he was V’s and V was his.
Despite it all though, Kerry did like sitting around the campfire. A guitar would get put in his hands and he’d strum away with V leaned on him while he played. After everything they had gone through, Kerry was glad V was finally letting him into his world. With the promise of a forever at the tips of their tongues.
The Aldecadlos almost never seemed to believe Kerry would be coming, because what rock star would wanna hang out in the Badlands? None, and even now with nearly a full year under their belt of being together, Kerry had only ever been a few times. He couldn’t stand being away from V for long, and according to the nomads, V couldn’t stand it either. They’d tease him around the campfire about how he’d moan and groan about missing Kerry.
Kerry wandered out of their tent after V had set it up to find him and Panam setting up the campfire. He watched from afar, watching V’s shoulders and back shift as he lifted wood and dropped it. The sun was going down now, and it had finally cooled a bit. And much to everyone’s delight, Kerry had promised a song or two by the fire.
By the time the fire was ready, Panam and Kerry had settled next to each other to let V finish the work, which resulted in a lot of teasing from Panam about how V was such a good worker and such, V just rolled his eyes as he started the fire and people started to settle around it in exhaustion. A guitar was handed to Kerry as promised, V requesting the boat song. That’s how Kerry knew these people were special, special enough to have V wanting them to hear that.
The night went on, jokes and drinks and stories passed around, until the subject of dancing came up. “I’m assuming Mr. Rockstar knows how to dance?” Panam asked, a bit starstruck every time she looked at Kerry. Kerry just laughed and nodded. “I know how to do a lot, tango, slow dancing,” he nudged V teasingly, then noticed a look.
“What? Your man can slow dance but you can’t?” Panam asked, meaning it teasingly but V shrugged. “Nope.”
“Wait wait wait, we’ve been together how long? And you never told me you can’t dance?” Kerry asked, acting as if that would ever come up. V just shrugged again. “Wasn’t a skill I needed growing up, don’t need to know how slowdance on the streets.” Kerry frowned a bit, then stood.
“Come on,” He held out his hands for his partner to take, earring a raised eyebrow. “What?” V laughed, not moving.
“I’m gonna teach you how to slow dance.” Kerry said simply, pulling V up like he was nothing. Okay V may have started to get up by that point but no one needed to know that. Kerry knew a lot of basic things in his day to day life is what V would consider a luxury. Hell waking up in a bed and a roof over their heads V considered luxurious.
“Now?” V asked softly, and Kerry just smiled, nodding. He was 90 years old, his shame died with Johnny about 51 years ago. He’s done and seen more embarrassing things than a Merc who can’t dance in front of his friends. And besides, V looked amazing by the fire, the glow in his eyes and how it reflected off of his face and lit up his hair enough to show the red in it. How could he not want to show his love that didn’t involve taking his clothes off right here… now that was an idea- Kerry no. Focus.
Kerry showed him the correct places to put his hands, talking him through it. He was distantly aware of the guitar being strummed to a slow beat that Kerry could work with. V looked so lost in what he was doing, but it was cute. And Kerry fell in love a bit more with him every single day. Especially when V was looking at him with the same look he himself gave someone that never returned it. It took a while, but he found someone that looked at him the same way.
The dance was clumsy, Kerry unable to keep his laughter back watching the big bad Merc stumble over his own two feet. Panam had moved to give them more space, and to probably save her own ass if V ended up falling, smart girl, Kerry would give her that.
“Ker, I’m gonna step on your feet-“ V whispered, more focused on his mainline than the world around them.
“Baby you’re doin’ just fine, relax a little. Besides, these boots were made to be roughed up. They’re your boots anyway.” Kerry teased, tilting his head up to make V look at him. “There ya go, see? Just focus on me and you’ll fall into step with me okay?” He said, V nodded a bit. He was touched that V was worried about stepping on his toes though.
“You dance about as well as an infant.” Kerry teased, making V laugh a bit. “Like I said, no need for dancing on the streets..”
“You aren’t on the streets anymore, baby. You’re all mine now..” Kerry whispered before leaning up for a kiss, both pulling back in surprise when there were whistles and catcalling from the nomads. Kerry had forgotten they were there and what he had been doing in the first place.
He smiled innocently up at V, which earned a genuine smile back, before Kerry suddenly dipped him. His merc gripped onto his shoulder with a gasp of surprise and laughter from the group around him. V gasped out a curse before Kerry sealed their lips again. Kerry felt V smiling against his lips, cupping his face.
The Aldecadlos cheered around them, Kerry doing a little bow before sitting back down again, then grunted when V flopped into his lap and laid on his chest. He kissed his temple and wrapped his arms around him, gently patting his chest. He would have laughed in your face if you had told him he’d be hanging out in the Badlands with his merc boyfriend right now, but he wouldn’t change this for the damn world.
He knew his phone was probably being blown up right now, and when they got back he’d be bombarded with questions on where they hell he had been, and why he hadn’t answered. He’d worry about it when they got back to the city, right now his focus was on the man leaned against him.
V gently moved his head up to whisper in Kerry’s ear, reaching up to take one of his hands innocently.
“You ever heard of the devil’s tango?”
Kerry grinned.
“Heard of it, baby I invented it.”
“You wanna teach me?” V asked, and when Kerry pulled back to look down at him, V was giving him the most innocent look for a man that just suggested such a thing.
“Absolutely.”
