WIP Questionnare (tag game)

Tagged by @buffythevampirelover ^^ using A Chant for Blood to answer these! Answering them all out of boredom, but you can answer as many as you like ^^

What was the first part of your wip that you created? ...the first chapter 😅 but tbf the very first scene has changed drastically since then! it was a bit of a 'main character wakes up' cliche so I decided like right after writing chapter 3 it would be changed after the first draft was done.

If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be? oo! Possibly Nothing Else Matters by Apocalyptica. Prob my fave one out of the story's playlist.

Who are your favorite characters you've made? Why? Probably the makoth characters, like Gunilde and Oddvar. and idk 🤷 ive had a soft spot for orcish characters lately, makoth included. Can't forget Karliah, too! She's been with me since middle school.

What other pieces of media do you think would share a fanbase for your story? oooh. i dont know. possibly game of thrones? or any gothic fantasy novel. I actually don't read that much victorian fantasy, so I don't know many. However, Snow White and the Huntsman did influence me a lot, so if that movie has a fanbase I suppose it counts.

What has been your biggest struggle while writing? Creating the magic systems. It's like chemistry for me; my brain just can't work it out. the main magic system, which i have just called Spellwork, feels so underdeveloped, but the other magic system for the Makoth, Skvæla, is a little bit more fleshed out. At some point I have to sit down one day and work the whole Spellwork thing out before I lose my mind 🥲

Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them! There is! Maugr are native to Reyoarfell, and only used by the Makoth. Wolf-like beasts the size of polar bears, with thick fur and short legs to combat the cold climate of Reyoarfell. The makoth only use them for travel or to carry/pull heavy things, they are not suited for combat or racing. These animals are important to them, and are not allowed to be owned by anybody outside of the country.

How do your characters get around?(ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.) Mostly by horseback or carriage, as trains haven't been invented yet. But also, the first book is contained in one city so they don't need anything else to travel long distance. However! Portals to travel between countries do exist, but they're rare and expensive to use.

What part of your wip are you working on? I'm currently editing the early chapters, getting it ready to look for beta readers. Adding more scenery and sensory descriptions, changing a few things about the characters, trying to find a way to make the plot twists less obvious before they're revealed 😅

What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in? Hmm. victorian fantasy, knight lady, eldritch being, vampiric lizard man, body horror, corruption arc, and monster hunting are the ones I can thing of off the top of my head 😅

What are your hopes for your wip? That there's people out there that would at least enjoy reading my novel, and love the characters as much as I do :)

I started collecting all the songs I've been listening to this year and I'm currently up to 57 hours. I tried not having doubles. Also this is almost exclusively from my "main" lists.

Next up I kinda need to comb through my emo list to find out what I've actually listened to. That playlist is almost 40 hours, but I add things frequently, and I probably switch lists often enough to have missed songs even if they have been there a while.

But it's fun. I do think I haven't been exploring too much music this year, but I would hope there's more than 60 hours total. My old everything list was 143 hours, so...

Though tbf I was probably less strict on my definition of "song I've listened to". Rn it's mostly within 2023, also I kinda need to recognize the song based on title and/or sound. (songs that I've only heard once or twice don't count).

i think it would work really well with mmm slightly post lmanburg niki. andby slightly i mean. well when she leaves (that is the whole thing of the song gdfjkhgsdf) also side note at like 1 minute 11 on that song theres a discord notification really subtly in the background and it makes me paranoid every time i hear it. anyway god its such a nice song. even for just like. the end of lmanburg. not necesarily paired with a character, just the sense of leaving a place that was so highly populated before it got blown up twice and was like. the main part of the smp. yeah. anyway also the lines "they'll knock down the pubs before helping you...they'll let you jump under trains before helping you" yeah those four lines have big niki vibes but also i think the song could work well with exile tommy or actually even with the finale when tubbo is about to sacrifice himself? mmmmm yeah

mmmm got exile tommy vibes innit. a lot of these have exile tommy vibes tbf i just like sad songs and also exile tommy. plus the song has a lot of like. the message is sort of like. changing yourself to appeal to others? like with "ill cut my hair to make you stare" but also the repeated thing of "ill figure out a way to get us out of here" which is clearly the main character of the song trying to help everyone when they are clearly not in a good way themself. yeah thats got big tommy vibes in general tbh but more like. pre finale tommy. i think he got a bit more independant after that.

so like. tw suicide but thats what the entire song is about and bing bang boom i just think it works so so so so so so so well with not only exile tommy (who obviously did try to kill himself) but also wilbur in a slightly more metaphorical way? so like. his self destructive habits leading him to a point where he had no choice other than to kill himself and to take his country down with him. and its all about other characters trying to help them and persuade them not to but also near the end there is a second voice trying to persuade them to go along with it, which im thinking like. if its wilbur, either dream or maybe just himself. his own brain persuading him to continue down the path that would inevitably lead to his and his countries destruction. also it works well with schlatt for the same reasons, except he doesnt want to die. maybe (since the song is so goddamn long) like. one verse for tommy one for wilbur and one for schlatt? dead gang poggg but also like. the verses cover fairly different things which work with one character but not so much the others, for example the first verse would be tommy because its mainly about persuading the person to not kill themself (which tommy did himself but shhh) the second for schlatt because its literally about drinking and smoking away your problems, and the third for wilbur since its more of a fight between the "good" and the "bad" sides, which is obviously what wilbur was experiencing. also obviously i have a soft spot for this song because its string instruments and french, basically my favourite combination ever (also i like his voice idfk lmao)

Tbh, there are many songs I love every year but there always are some that I love more than others. To prevent this post from becoming a complete mess, I will do this chronologically, starting with the 2020 songs I love.

My clear number one this year must be Répondez-moi by Gjon's Tears (Switzerland) (which is the song I made GIFs for before Lie To Me). Straight up 12/10, I sometimes (okay most of the times) I shed a tear (or more like a waterfall lol) when I listen to it, even though my French sucks and don't understand everything.

I also love Violent Thing by Ben Dolic (Germany) but TBF, I might be a bit biased because I'm German and I already loved Ben when he participated in The Voice of Germany. But for me, Violent Thing is a really good song and I'm really disappointed that we won't get a live performance of this on the ESC stage.

Another one of my favourites is the Danish song from this year, Yes by Ben & Tan. It's just a song that makes me super happy and I love their voices. I know many people think this is cheesy but I don't think so even though I can see their point.

Chains On You by Athena Manoukian (Armenia) is just a bop and has the third best music video, and that's all I'll say about this. Because otherwise I probably couldn't stop anymore.

The last 2020 entry I absolutely love is Grow by Jeangu Macrooy (The Netherlands). I've seen some people claim that this was just an attempt to copy Arcade, but no, it's not imo. Just because both of the songs are ballads it doesn't mean one tried to copy the other. Also, this is the second best music video (best one is Switzerland).

Alrighty, let's continue with 2019, and disclaimer: just because I like a country's song it doesn't mean that I support that country/the politics of that country.

Even though my Spotify top 100 from 2019 might try to tell you otherwise, I was really happy when Arcade by Duncan Laurence (The Netherlands) won last year, it's seriously in every playlist of mine. His live performance was stunning and I still think about it very often.

The song Spotify tries to tell you is my favourite from last year, is another one I really love (but who would have guessed that). Sometimes my mind just goes *clap clap* and I think back to that performance of Soldi by Mahmood (Italy) and then I have to think of the time when I went to his concert last October...

Okay and now we get to the song that I decided to write that disclaimer for. Scream by Sergey Lazarev (Russia). Drama 10/10, staging 10/10, lyrics 10/10 and vocals 10/10. In the beginning I admittedly didn't really like it but it grew on me quickly.

Yay, another Danish entry: Love Is Forever by Leonora. It's such a sweet song and has a really important message (imo). Alright, the staging with the giant chair is a bit weird but also oddly fitting? Also, Leonora has performed in the Eurovision Home Concerts and her performance was just. So. Good. Oh and the use of the four languages is just amazing.

Another ESC bop: Dirty Dancing by Luca Hänni (Switzerland). In the beginning I hated it but then he performed in the final and I was like "okay I guess it's actually alright but still not my favourite" and well, now I love it but I don't know why. Like it's a great song but I didn't realize my mind changed from hate to live in a month or so.

Unpopular opinion: Home by Kobi Marimi (Israel) was an amazing song. Of course it wasn't another 'Toy' but still a great successor. The emotions in it and also the lyrics are just *chefs kiss*

Heyyyy everybody. Idk this probably sounds like a weird thing to try to boost but like! If anyone has a Switch and they wanna try to get a tiny bit more active in their lives, I’d suggest getting that Fitness Boxing game! There’s a free trial in the store I think? It gives you a pretty good feel of what the game will hold for u!

But uh like. I find myself putting off going to the gym or really doing a lot lately. Combo of procrastination and just Depression lmao but!! I find myself a little more inclined to give my lil workout game a chance now and then merely because it’s Right There and tbh it’s kinda fun? It’s been making my heart pound and I’ve even been getting a lil bit of a sweat going with some of these workouts, I’m definitely already feeling a difference in my arms!

Readmore if u wanna see me talk more about it! Mobile users..... sry lol.

There’s admittedly not a lot game-y about the game- you do more workouts and you may be able to get more cool outfits for your coach and maybe some more fun songs to work out to, but it’s all based on fitness!

You can choose who you wanna work out with from these guys, and you’re even able to kinda customize them a bit more- changing hair and eye color, even skin color. Of course you can also give em new outfits as you go along to make em look neater! (I’ve actually chosen mr beefy on the far left lmao but tbh he’s got a more energetic voice than the girl you start with and it makes me feel a lil nicer when he says good job <:3c)

The gameplay is similar to that of a rhythm game. You’re told to take a stance and bop a little to the rhythm of the music. (Tbf I don’t have many places to be able to stand and play this, I just sorta do upper body while sitting down and it works just as well!)

Little icons scroll up the dotted lines on either side and you try to punch in time to get it in the circle. Like rhythm games, you can get a perfect, ok, or miss it completely and at the end it’ll tell you how many you got of each. While this all is happening, ur coach is in the middle mirroring what stance you should be in and what moves you should be doing in case you need to remember what the difference is between a jab and a hook. They’re also there to encourage you to keep on and will alert you to how many combos you may have left in your workout!

The main menu looks like this- you can track how many days you’ve done your workout and there’s a way to check how many calories you’ve burned and the like. You can also do free training on top of your daily if you wanna keep it going! The ‘my data’ at the bottom there is actually things such as your name, birthday, weight and height to kinda track your BMI if you wanted... But to be fair, they never really push you about it more than an alert now and then to keep updating if you want to keep track. As someone kinda iffy about weight-related things, it’s nice that it’s not very intrusive.

Also also you can tell your little trainer what you want to focus on for the most part! I personally got rid of stretching and told them to focus more upper-body since I’m stuck sitting and so far it’s been heavily into arm movement.

A lot of the things you can tell the trainer is if you’re trying to burn more calories, if you’re hoping to build muscle, or if you’re just kinda maintaining what you’ve got along with what parts of the body you want to focus on! It’s not a one-size-fits-all workout game, which I really appreciate!

I’ll also say about the music real quick- a lot of it’s fun to kinda mess around with while punching but tbh it’s not much more than background noise. When I first played it, I didn’t even recognize the song they were playing before I realized it’s mostly the music parts more than singing and such. So uh. Don’t get too extremely excited about the playlist, though I admit I’ve had fun bopping along to LMFAO and TImber with Ke$ha. You can favorite the songs you get and they’ll play those more often for you!

One last thing that I’ll say that keeps bringing me back to it- it’s all rather positive! I admit I’ve not done an awful job yet to warrant any sort of digital disappointment, but I’ve had a few rough runs... But even then, my trainer would simply say “You can do better!” with a rather cheerful tone of voice. It’s not blaming, it’s not shaming or anything- hey! You can do better, so let’s work on doing better! I know they’re just digital guys, but it’s nice to have that sort of positivity somewhere in your day, especially in something you’re still baby-stepping into! They’re incredibly kind and forgiving, pushing gently when you do bad and congratulating you when you do a good job! I have missed a day or two and they’ve not said anything yet, so there’s none of that “where have you been?” schtick! (Or at least not after just a day or two. Let’s see after I miss a week lol.)

I just really appreciate this game as someone who doesn’t have the time, room, mentality, energy, or drive to get myself to go to a gym or work out. It gets me moving more than I would otherwise! I’d also say this might be fun for anyone who’s already working out- perhaps as a warm-up before you head in? 

Lmk if ur interested and still have questions, maybe! I know switch games have steep prices but I find this one worth it!
