Anon, I will not block you since you seem to be trying to be kind and also sound like you may be young, but I'm sorry- I will definitely "call someone names" when they behave like he has towards me & others. There is a time to baby people and take the "high road" and there is a time you should be able to make your frustrations known. And I want you to realize that it is very frustrating when you reply to someone that has been awful or bigoted to you, and someone comes around to act like you shouldn't be upset, that you should be calm instead, should just be quiet. It's extremely invalidating, it sweeps bad behavior under the rug, and it makes other people hesitant to speak about their experiences. That is not me. It's not my responsibility to curb MY reactions because someone else "won't change" if I'm being too "hostile" towards them. Why is that burden always placed on the person that was hurt? Why am I obligated to be kind and give grace to someone that has told me to kill myself, liked posts calling me an antiblack slur, called me plenty of "names" himself, brought my late father into unrelated matters, and harassed myself and my friends? I won't. I refuse.

This also certainly won't ruin anyone's life- let's be honest. No one is going to give a shit about this, because it isn't paywaller focused "drama" or anything entertaining or fun to circlejerk over. It isn't something everyone can safely laugh at and make memes and shitposts about, so it'll be ignored. Just look at your dash- do you see much of a peep about this compared to, say, harrie's paywalled christmas tree? Do you see every account on simblr throwing in their two cents and reblogging everything about it the way they do making fun of paywallers' cc, or reblog discourse, or any other random meaningless drama of the week? No. He'll keep having a presence and being a complete asshole and posting his awful cc to make money off of, don't you worry. Worst comes to worst, he'll just delete and remake. He did it all the other times people spoke about his behavior, and he'll do it again now, until the next group of people he harasses comes out with a record of their experiences. But I'm not going to forget about it. Sorry, but I won't. There's too many red flags there, and there's too many good people on simblr that don't deserve to walk into that blindly.

Also, I want people to stop painting 21 year old adults as minors. Y'all do realize that 21 year olds have jobs, bills to pay, spouses, children, voting rights, etc? He is not a child. Do not make excuses for him. Saying that he'll always be immature to me because of his age is flat out wrong- I know many people in their early 20s that are responsible, mature, and respectful. They also know how to have clear boundaries with others (including children), and would balk at the idea of behaving like he does. They would be insulted and embarrassed by the idea that this behavior is normal for a 21 year old, and if you are that age, you should be too. He may be younger than me, but he's old enough to affect the people around him. And if he's immature now, he certainly won't get any MORE mature by having those around him handwave his irresponsible and harmful behavior. His weird friends may play that role for him, but i will not. He loves to talk about personal responsibility, so i will too- it's not MY responsibility to help him change for the better. I can't control that. But I can use my own voice about matters that are important to me on my own blog, and I'll continue to do so. And by the way I've gotten to talk to other people affected by this, and told they were also uncomfortable but too afraid to speak up about it, I'm very glad that I have.

I understand your perspective, nonny. I used to have a similar one myself- I couldn't understand why people were getting mad and calling the people I liked "names", why they were trying to "ruin their life" and just being so mean. And even after I became an adult, I wanted to give people chances, and I believed that simply being kind would change the minds of awful people. Sadly, I've learned the hard way that it usually doesn't. At least not with people that show a pattern of bad behavior over a long period of time, like with this person. It just makes it easier for you to be hurt over and over again until you finally give up. There have been times during this that I was struck with a strong feeling of pity for Xian and wanted to try appealing to him emotionally, but every callous reply or nasty comment I saw from him in response to even neutral words told me that it would be a waste of my time and emotional energy. I even tried just ignoring him completely, but that only led to him continuing to attack me, and then attack others in the community unrelated to me. Being angry won't change him either, but it WILL warn others and give a voice to those who feel like they can't have one. That's what I care about, more than any perceived retribution- I know well by now that no matter how awful a person is here, they will be lifted up and allowed to continue being awful. "Cancel culture" does not truly exist. Especially not in the sims community. He will be fine, but the people around him may not. And that's who I want to continue to be there for. I hope this makes sense to you, nonny.

i keep getting asks about that, so i'll answer one of them, addressing all of them.

TLDR: it's fine! (except for $5 price for 2 pixels but it's not my business or problem)

first of all, this person could have simply not seen my post and had this idea on their own by looking at their own ears or ears of their sim and thinking "oh shit, there should be piercing holes" like i did. this thought was really long overdue, i'm surprised a lot of people didn't have this realization in years (though judging by people's tags and comments i got on my post, many people did, they're just not making cc)

for example, when i made my skewed glasses set, i thought that no one did it before me, then three days later i found out someone already made a similar thing in the past (thankfully, with different frame). maybe they also get asks about me "ripping off their idea", but for me it was genuinely my own idea. could be the same case here. not everyone on simblr is aware of my cc.

and even if they did see my post, i didn't invent the piercing holes as some big copyrighted creative idea, you know? they're not mine to get jealous about, i'm not a gatekeeper for piercing hole cc production. anyone can make them. go make more of them, gosh, it's fine.

and let's not forget that the more cc options, the better. theirs look different, they might fit someone's sims style or jewelry placement better than mine. do we write to everyone who makes eyelids cc that someone also made eyelids and ripped off their idea of eyelids? no! we're glad to have options. look at your cc folder, how many nose masks do you have? eyebags? face scars? bloody noses? chipped nails? more than one, i'm sure. why not have a wider choice of piercing holes as well? each piece of cc that we now have a lot of was made for the first time at some point.

i really hope that you guys only write these asks to me and don't also send asks to that person, saying they "ripped off" anything, and if you do, would you mind stopping that?

Several years ago, when my bbs were still actually babies, we rented a cabin for a week with my parents, my baby brother, and my sister in the Appalachian mountains.

It's late at night, and I head upstairs to pop my head in to make sure all the pocket-sized ones are still asleep and don't need anything.

1st step - Oh hey, a shadow

2nd step - Kinda weird that on this entire stair case only one riser has a shadow

3rd step - Also too, based on light directionality, that shadow is totally wrong

4th step - Is that a sock stuck there through static cling?

5th step - Is that a face?

6th step - Are those WINGS???

7th step - Is that a motherfucking BAT staring directly at me???

At the bottom of the stairs, I'm trying to regroup and figure out what the hell to do, the most basic, rudimentary, non-standard life skills I knew at this point in my life came from my girl scout years lost in the mists of time, and very most definitely included no knowledge on what to do if confronted by a motherfucking BAT.

Things I vaguely knew about bats*, gleaned by osmosis through pop culture a) bats hate bright light b) they prefer to avoid people c) bats hate loud noises d) bats carry rabies 5) bats are probably definitely nocturnal supernatural creatures from Transylvania

Conclusion: This bat has been hanging out in this brightly lit stairwell, just chilling while the constant bedlam only small children can produce rages around him. This bat is not WELL, he is not RIGHT, he is going to give us all the rabies and grin while doing so.

I'm trying to alert my mom and brother to the situation unfolding without startling the bat and setting it off, so I'm emphatically whispering it at them. My mom has had a couple of glasses of wine at this point though, so she isn't picking up what I'm putting down, and I keep repeating myself to the point I'm whisper screaming at her and and whisper hysterically laughing, because at this point my emotional responses have done what I already should have, which is to say, fucked right off.

I grab her arm in exasperation to lead her to the stairs and point at it and she just. doesn't. see. it. I have to lead her up to the 5th step before she finally sees it at which point she yells "Hey it's a bat!" And I whisper scream "What are you doing? Are you trying to get us rabies-bat-murdered?!?!?"

I go to the kitchen to look up Animal Control, and I hear her and my brother discussing strategies for getting rid of it. I'm trying to tell them to let Animal Control deal with it, but for whatever reason they've decided to stand their ground against the bat (the reason is wine).

Their weapons of choice? A WICKER BREAD BASKET AND A COAT HANGER.

So once I've realized how committed they are to this terribly stupid course, I just ask them to wait long enough for me to barricade my kids in their rooms, because unlike their grandmother and uncle***, I am not here for toddlers getting rabies-bat-murdered.

We're locked away, and I hear crashing, thumping, and shouting going on, and after eons later my brother came to tell me they got it. Evidently they managed to get it in the basket and sling it out an open window, at which point they heard a tiny plop from the driveway. However, the next morning the driveway was empty. No doubt that to this day that bat is planning his rabies-bat-murdery revenge.

This is also the trip where the moment I got home, I had to immediately turn around and go back, because my daughter left her special teddy bear there, a 5 hour round trip.

*This is in no way scientific or accurate, and I'm pretty sure I Mandela effected most of it.

Oooooh okay!! So I really, really love plants. 🌱 Look under the cut if you're interested in knowing more!

I counted 16 of them just in my room right now (and that's not counting my little area where I propagate cuttings). I have way more in my bathroom and kitchen too.

My oldest baby is a Golden Pothos that I got as a present back in 2020 (which kick started my obsession hobby). Her longest stem is over 6ft long now... although I'm thinking of pruning her again soon). I also have an English Ivy that's doing really well. I have two different types of Monsteras (Andasonii and Deliciosa). I recently repotted my Pearls & Jade Pothos so I'm hoping it'll get even bushier in a few months. Right now it's looking a bit rough.

My latest additions to the plant army are two different kinds of Prayer Plants. They look so cool! One of them has pink on her leaves. At night the leaves close up, and then in the day they open up again. It makes them look like very different plants depending on the time of day.

In case you didn't think I was a nerd, I have a whole ass plant spreadsheet where I keep track of watering, fertilizing, propagation, and make other notes about their growing conditions.

So yeah! That's my one fact. I could honestly talk about this all day. Thank you so much for the ask Swann!

While hitting the gym trying to get wedding ready, Genesis ran into her girl Kiera who had lots of updates on her dating in the city shenanigans. They had already spoken about the disappearing act Gavin pulled at the last date, but now she was getting the possible reason for his distraction and disinterest. 

Oh Gavin... We were all rooting for you, but luckily Kiera seems to have found another potential bae. I guess we’ll see you next lifetime.

Behind the scenes/Gameplay info under the cut

This is all I wanted. Just some good, look like they smell like shea butter love. But Gavin had other plans and he didn’t give a damn about what I wanted for him. Exhibit A below. Not even basic but VERY unattractive. Damn. 

When I first discovered Gavin in game, he really was married to old Kim Goldbloom from Henny and they had a child. I immediately tried to erase his history leaving him free and clear for Kiera, however he was just not that interested. I figured it was something about his past that he couldn’t forget/let go. I brought old Kim back to life, gave her a curvy ass makeover and look at that... VERY attractive.

Then this man played me AND Kim AND Kiera by calling to ask about another woman. I just had to go and see who this woman was and when I found Marissa... I giggled. Gavin, in his best Saweetie voice, said 🗣 “that’s my type! that’s my type”. So I gave Ms Ma’am a makeover too in case he decides to pursue a little something new. 

So that’s my story time and adventures in trying to not be a heavy handed watcher, and how I ended up offering my fave to simblr to see how his life could play out with someone else. He’s still in this save so I’ll keep an eye on what he gets into. And I make no promises to NOT step in in the future and make these sims do what I tell them to do lol.

Why did you choose your url?

There is a hot, sweet beverage in my country called atole. We mostly drink it as a traditional breakfast thingy (sometimes with other food) because it is a bit heavy, yummy and fulling (?). People call me Nat for short (my name is Natalia) and one friend at my university thought it was funny to call me N-atole because he saw me drinking a chocolate atole cup :D I've been using that nickname for my internet / gaming persona since then. CYBERBULLYING within the Sims-Community - Spread LOVE and not HATE -  with Tips

This is important to me. Okay, I was thinking back and forth if I should do that, and guess what? I will express my opinion. Because I think it’s extremely important to say something. This Sims-Community, especially here on Tumblr can be a very toxic place at times for simmers who do make a mistake. It’s literally the end of some great simmers who did provide beautiful content, before you judge, hear me out.

Even if you apologize and recognize that you made a mistake and promise to do better it doesn mean anything. Because there are simmers who keep trashing each other out there. You won’t get a second chance by the community to prove you learned from your mistakes and let you be. I’m not a big simmer in this community. Yet, it’s sad to see that BULLYING is obviously accepted.  It seems to be okay to keep trashing those who made that one mistake, even after them leaving the community and simmers still join the ride and keep going on that like yeah I'm happy they learned their lesson and left, finally. We don’t need that trash here.

Okay, I’m not religious by any means, but this quote is damn true, and I will say it:

Let them who are without sin cast the first stone.

After all we are humans (from preteen till senior, regardless the heritage and  nation).  Most simmers tend to forget that behind each profile there is a real human. We tend to make mistakes and in most cases we learn from them. 

But is it really okay to keep trashing each other? I mean, we are all here to enjoy what we love the most, and that’s the Sims, right? I get this feeling that you need to fear our Sims-Community because once you do make mistake, mostly without intention, there is no way to recover from that. At least I’m convinced that some simmers are not aware of whatever mistake they made and then realize it, oh damn, this is not what I wanted. But such issues lead mostly to riots up to boycott.

A bunch of Simmers don't think about it how toxic this can be and what it can do to the emotional state. In fact, there is a name for this it’s called cyberbullying. 

Let’s face it guys: Causing embarrassment or humiliation isn’t fun, and in most cases, this is happing in our Community with simmers who made a mistake. This sort of behavior is inadequate, and there is no excuse, regardless of the case.

I simply believe in the good within a human's heart. Most simmers who fall into this mixed-up trap called "Real Life vs. Sims Reality" must think about the fact that their stories leave a distinct impression. Maybe some of them just didn't think about the potential consequences that it could hurt someone.

Understandably, some topics are highly sensitive. So here are some tips from a small simmer for all those who fear to make a mistake.  If you are a new Storyteller or even a long-time Storyteller please make sure to read my suggestions.

Under the cut I gathered, I hope some useful tips:

The Offender [The attacker, who feels hurt]

The Bully [Well, yeah]

Keep in mind I don’t take any side, nor I will. I speak in general terms overall.

Minimize Conflicts

How to minimize conflicts as Simblr in a Multicultural Simming-Community. If you are new to this Sims-Community and you want to prevent being attacked, for what you do. Here are some examples which caused issues in the past. Because some simmers haven't been diverse enough or talked about topics without doing proper research and considering potential consequence that specific choices can cause drama and action you didn’t intend to happen:

Diversity Create SIMS of all nations from all sorts of background (e.g. Age, Nation, LGBT, Transgender, Religion, etc.) Regardless, even if you have your playstyle, which is fine, by the way. But you are a part of a multicultural melting pot from the moment you joining this global Sim-Community. Sure, you can’t make everyone happy but show you are diverse, and you will be loved ;). 

Stories: Depending on the topic you choose for your Simstories you always need to keep in mind: Can I hurt someone's feelings with what I say and how I portray it? Is this accurate? Don’t simmify anything without taking such thoughts into account. Simply, because it can unleash a backlash. Writing about certain traditions, lifestyles, cultural or historical facts can be at times tricky. You must be aware that specific topics can blow up in your face. More particularly, if you have no experience with these topics or do not understand their historical implications. As you can hurt real people through what and how you write about situations, relations, and the way you portray it. Some people will resent you. Especially with regard if you want to talk about topics from minority [+ethnic] groups. That goes for relationships, historical events, and everything that can be considered as sensitive. Yo have to think twice before you write about it and dig into such topics.

Pre-work: Be sure to do your pre-work before using sensible topics: Such as historical events and any form of diseases, religion, sexuality, violence, crime, racism, alcohol, abuse, and other aspects that fall into this category.

Research: It is strongly encouraged that you to do a profound and good research before you implement somewhat a heavy topic into your story. Make sure to layout ahead before you post it. Write it and read each line. Think about what kind of impact your words can have. Like could it imply something you don’t want to?

Stereotypes: Can you hurt someone’s feelings with how you portray them without thinking about your intention and what you try to achieve by using a stereotype? Does your reasoning sound logical and valid? Why are you using a stereotype? Explain the reason if it's not clear enough.

THE MISTAKE MAKER

You made a mistake now what?

Show understanding and tell your intention why you did what you did.

Remove Post. If it happened without intention - remove your post instantly.

Don’t take it personally. Don’t let this hurt your emotional state.

You are human. We tend to make mistakes. Always keep that in mind.

Anxiety. If you suffer any form of anxiety, don’t let this go to your heart.

Suicide Thoughts. If cyberbullying achieved this? This not good at all. Please reach out to suicide.org to get help in your country via a helpline simply because life is too beautiful and too precious.

How to deal with digital attacks

Ignore it. Don’t react or respond to negative comments.

Block online haters.  As soon they make negative or hateful comments, delete first. They keep going? Block them. Don’t let words hurt you. Yes, you can also block the anon (IP will be blocked) or turn off the annon function in your settings for your inbox. Talk to someone you can trust and report “offensive content” on Tumblr here. Tell that they bully you, keep the messages until you are done with the report, and do screenshots for proof.

Be kind and respectful. Yes, even to haters. It shows that you’re in control of your emotions and that you aren’t letting negativity bring you down.

Stick with your supporters. Keep your followers who do appreciate and understand you. Having a friend nearby if you think you might encounter a hater not only makes it less likely that an incident might happen, but also means you’ll have positive reinforcements just in case.

Reminder. Remind yourself that comments from a hater are a reflection of them and aren’t really about you. People who feel good about themselves don’t need to put others down.

Criticism. Understand criticism can be a sign of pain. People sometimes lash out because they have other life struggles. Negative comments may have nothing to do with you.

Feelings. Acknowledge your feelings. Talk to a trusted adult or friend and get some encouragement and support.

Be yourself. Keep being you. Keep moving forward, pursuing your interests, and being who you are.

OFFENDER

The attacker, who feels hurt

Ask. First ask, what did you mean by saying XYZ? 

Intention. Question the intention. Did you intentionally imply XYZ?

Express feelings. You have all the rights but give them the chance to explain themself but be forgiven and show understanding if they tell you they did not want to hurt your feels.

Forgive. If the person apologizes, be forgiven.

Second chance. Did the person learn that their behavior can hurt? Do they do it right now? Well, why not keep following and enjoy, right? Or let them be if you don’t want to follow them any longer.

BULLY

The dickhead that keeps going.

Listen, Bullying is not okay.

You don’t know who is behind that profile.

You don’t know in what emotional state that person is.

Words do hurt even more than physical pain.

It can lead that person to do something dramatic (like suicide etc.)

Your words have an impact, and you don’t know what it can cause and do to someone. Put yourself in their shoes.

Be forgiven.

Unfollow, if you don’t like them any longer but don’t trash that one simmer. This is so NOT cool.

SIDENOTE

Speaking on general terms. Big simmers do have a specific role model function as well. Many, in most instances, several thousand simmers of all ages are following you. It’s your responsibility not to support any form of Cyberbullying. 

Because children and young people follow you. They adore and love what you do. Take your role model function seriously and please, don’t support any form of Cyberbullying.

Rules:

Age requirements: Young Adult to Elders; to submit a sim you must be older than 18 years old.

On the matter of CC: this is a maxis mix blog. I would much rather you go nuts on Skin and Skin details than on the outfits, but you are allowed to use CC at will, using the following guidelines.

You can do all of the outfits and how many of each you want, but limit CC use to 2 EVERYDAY OUTFITS: the first one of these will be used on the first episode. This is the outfit your sim will have when meeting the judges and simblr for the first time. So, dress to impress. The other one will be used on the first photoshoot, so it is just as important.

You can send me your tray files as soon as you send out your application, since everyone who submits will be featured on the first episode.

I need your Sim to have skills. You can choose 10 skills total, and only 2 can be maxed out.

Submissions will be open until one of two things happen: we get 15 sims (I can dream,  right?) or we reach the deadline, in which case I will move forward with who I got. The deadline is August 18.

There’s one more requirement: take a picture of your Sim and send it to me. Yeah, you heard me right. Make your own photoshoot, chose a spot in their hometown that means something to them. The Sim World will be a big theme in the show. Please send it in the highest resolution you can (ideally 1920x1080px). You can edit but keep it to a minimum. This picture will be up for simblr vote and determine who gets to compete (like a pre-elimination). Only 10 will have a chance to become SNTM. Please send the picture privately. You can send the picture with the tray files or through discord (ask me privately for my ID). Don’t DM it or post it because tumblr eats the quality.

So, it's actually my first time playing The Sims 2 and i'm really liking so far, i'm having quite a tough time finding what stuff should I download to make the game better (and prettier). What mods/cc do you use to make the perfomance top notch? I'm currently going through resources from simblrs, but i'm trying to hold back so i don't break the game with too many things. (btw do you know how much GB you can have until the game gets laggy?)

Oh man this is pretty hard question for someone who has pretty much just winged it with same setup for years only adding on top of the pile and replacing files that got corrupted between computer transfers but well lessee... (this got really long so I’ll put the rest under read more)

For starters, protect your game from itself, this tutorial goes through quite few points, I recommend going through each step just in case. Most important is write protecting your game files though, that way you can’t break your installation.

Marasims has tutorial for how to get your game to recognize your graphics and fix pink flashing and crashing (might wanna go through it even if your game appears to be working now)

Get some essential mods! These are up to anyone’s preferences and you should choose what to install depending on the way you play really but the ones listed in the first post are good start, they basically are things that’ll keep the game from killing itself. I’d at least recommend FFS Director's Cut and Boiling Oil’s No Sim Loaded, they’ll help to keep your game safe and it does help the performance a little too when the game isn’t spawning hundreds of Sims in the background.

Get familiar with things you can do in your game that will cause it to explode and avoid doing them. Yeah, it’s old and crappily coded and many default functions will cause neighborhood/game corruption.

And that’s most important ones for making the game run and not break for starters. If it’s still not flashing pink at that point after few minutes of playing then let’s get to beautification:

For nicer looking Sims I’d start with default replacements, you can only have one per item in your game at once, but if you get bored/don’t like the one you chose just delete it and replace with another and it should just work without extra steps (do delete caches between though, the first tutorial linked mentions the three: accessory.cache, groups.cache, and cigen.package). Defaulting the game items alone gets you pretty far before you need to start introducing custom content.

Lighting mod can do a lot for the looks of your game, there are couple to choose from:

Hat’s edit of it

Spookymuffin’s

DreadPirate’s maxis match lighting mod. (I think this is what most people use nowadays)

Perhaps you’d like some additional face sliders if you create a lot of sims?

Choose if you’re going for more realistic or more maxis matchy game and try to build your downloads folder accordingly, doing so helps to limit the content and keep the look more cohesive.

If you want hairs you can probably find anything you might need from allthehairs.uk. Keep an eye on the listed polycounts, while your computer probably can display high poly hairs if it has actual graphics card it’s really not good idea to fill your game with hairs that have polycount over 10k-20k since those will cause lag and possibly ruin your graphics card.

Simscave updates (+updates archive) are good way to find new content to download, they get updated almost daily.

I honestly don’t build/decorate enough to have recommendations for buy/build category things, I just download houses and whatever nice items I see, throw everything that comes with them in and then cry because I have to clean out the things I don’t even need for anything. Talking of which: Never install sims2packs with the game’s installer, always use Clean Installer instead! 

If you’ve played Sims 3 and used to merge files in it for better performance you can do the same thing in Sims 2 too with SimPE, but: before you merge things together make absolutely sure you want to keep each and every single color you put in that file since if you delete one in game the game will delete the whole bundle. I believe merging does make the game read the files bit faster so it can be beneficial if you aren’t like me who’s constantly changing her mind about what I want in my game and what not. Here’s tutorial for how to do it.

Renaming files (and folders!) to remove special characters like [({%¤?~*})]+ etc and spaces should also help loading times, - and _ are fine though. Also make sure your file paths stay as short as possible with as few folders as possible since it helps loading times. So for example downloads\hair\male\newsea is fine but downloads\hairMaleNewsea would be better since it’s only one folder level to read instead of three.

As for what your computer can take without lagging, there’s really no number of files I can give you. I’ve read some people run their games fine with like 40GB of content, mine takes about 6 minutes to reach neighborhood with about 5GB of custom content but it runs without problems once I get in the game. Also just warning in advance: in CAS your makeup/accessory tab will pretty much lag if you install anything there, that’s just how it seems to be for whatever reason and there’s no way around it. High poly items cause more lag than lower poly items and files with bigger textures do so too.

I hope I’m not forgetting anything too important from the above, it’s really late and way past my bed time so I gotta just post this as is. If anyone else has any tips or other things to add please do!

Hi :) Do you have any tips for telling a story through your gameplays? Or even starting a legacy challenge?

When I was in the middle of writing this, I realized it’s all over the place and not everything probably answers your question, but they’re all things I’ve learned in my three years of being a simblr and trying to tell stories through this game. I hope at least some of it will be useful 😊 There are currently 2 different ways I approach storytelling. My Rose Legacy is mainly planned in advance with breaks for regular gameplay (but I focus on the story, therefore less completely random stuff happens). Golden Days, aka the gen 4 story I keep talking about but haven’t shown much of, is planned in advance completely (I write it first, then I go in the game to take pictures) and has no true gameplay parts. And then there are NSB and BPR, which are mainly about me having fun with the game. A lot of random stuff may and will occur. I do some planning too, but nothing too heavy usually.

But onto those legacy tips now. Some apply more to Roses, some to my other two legacies. Just get inspired by what you think could work for you!

It’s under the cut!

1. Come in with no big expectations

This might be just a coincidence, but it’s something I’ve noticed happened with all my big legacies. The only intention I had when I started them was to have a good time playing the game that I love. Don’t immediately think “I’m going to make the best founder ever” or “this is it, I’ll never create a better legacy”. Don’t stress yourself too much about it, just have fun. Don’t force yourself to be head over heels about your founder from the beginning, you will form a natural “bond” with them and their family as you play and get to know them better. They don’t have to be the best sim in the legacy, you might like their children more. It happened in all my legacies: I like Ezra more than Amelia, Isaac more than Elizabeth, Roxanne more than Gwyneth and (even though it wasn’t like that from the beginning) Ross more than December.

2. Have a basic idea of what you want to do

I found that I like setting requirements for myself because if I don’t do that, I’ll do what I’m always doing in the game, and well, then it all gets boring so quickly. When you’re playing a challenge-based legacy, you already have these requirements you have to complete somehow. If it seems too easy, just add your own! I’ll be doing that in my grey generation because I’ve already finished a lot of the requirements during the yellow generation, and this one would be too short and easy.

3. Try things you’ve never done before

Step out of your comfort zone! Think about what you’ve never done or explored in the game before: complete some aspirations, master some skills, have a certain number of relationships your heir will have to have in their life, make a rule about how many children your sim will have…have these basic guidelines, but don’t forget to give yourself some freedom too. Which brings me to the next point.

4. Whatever comes your way, roll with it

This is something I’ve been doing a lot in my NSB and it’s so much fun. Your house is on fire? It sucks, but don’t quit. This sim keeps showing up and wants to talk to your sim? Maybe they could be friends…or maybe enemies. Or maybe enemies to lovers! Was your spellcaster cursed? Nice, don’t you dare to exit without saving, challenge yourself and break the curse. Do you get an impulsive need to abduct your sim? Turn them into a vampire? GO FOR IT! Go crazy. Do bizarre things. Act on a whim. Let your sims suffer from time to time. Get inspired by the awful things the game throws at you. You could also make a list of things to do in the game, assign them numbers and then use google to roll the dice. Actually, I think I’ve seen someone make something like this already, but I might be making that up right now.

Basically: have goals, but leave some free space for unexpected twists. It’s like life, isn’t it? You focus on something, but sometimes, you can’t get straight to it. Obstacles happen.

5. And what about story-heavy parts?

If you want to add a part of a story that is less about gameplay, go for it! It can be refreshing. I always plan these parts in advance. Also, if I’m in the middle of a storyline, I usually break the previous rule, meaning that yes, I pretend some things didn’t happen, and yes, I quit without saving when something doesn’t go right. 

A perfect example is when Miracle burned to death while I was setting up another scene. If it happened in a gameplay, I’d be heartbroken, but I’d keep it (and maybe I would get a new, different storyline out of it). But in this case, I was in the middle of the story and I couldn’t just let her die, it would affect everything and I wasn’t in the mood for that monstrous rewriting. (it was in the middle of quads’ storylines and really, I don’t think they’d be in the mood for going on dates right after their mother died, but that’s off topic)

6. If you need to, take a break

This sounds simple, but I’m always surprised how often people force themselves to open their saves just to crank out content for their simblr. Why? You’ll just end up being bored and bitter and very often, you can tell when someone isn’t having fun with their game (or simblr in general). It took me four months to feel like opening the Rose save again. It would be pointless to make myself load it up when I actually don’t want to play it. Remember what I said in that first point: you want to have a good time. If you’re not having it, just leave. Take that break. You don’t owe anything to anyone, and if anyone tries to tell you otherwise, well…they’re the asshole here, not you. You can get burned out or uninspired from time to time, it happens, it’s natural, don’t feel bad about it. Get some rest and then come back - next week or next month, doesn’t matter.

7. Small generations are the best

I learned this the hard way and yet I still find myself breaking this rule so often. Gen 5/6 of Rose Legacy were exhausting because there were just so many sims and so many stories I wanted to tell. I still ended up scrapping a lot of them and I’m not satisfied with it. My tip would be have less children per generation, but write down your story ideas and just use them in later generations. Be patient. In fact, as the time goes, you can develop these stories and get rid of the flaws, so in the end they’ll be better than if you have used them all in one generation!

8. Writing prompts, tags and ask games are amazing

If I develop a character more, I find it easier to get attached to them - and then I’m less likely to quit the save too. I’ve had many pretty sims, but I let them go in the end because they had no depth. You can always develop your sims on your own. No one is stopping you from sitting down and writing all the headcanons you have for them. 

However, what I find more fun are ask games with questions about your OC. Not only you’re challenged to think about something new (these questions can be about awfully specific things, I love when that happens), but you also learn which characters people are interested in or what they want to know about them, and then you can work with that too. However, don’t get discouraged if no one asks anything. It happens a lot and it’s hard to then not feel down, but you’re not the only one. It’s not even that big of a deal when you think about it! (I’m still learning this, by the way, I’m always discouraged when no one asks haha.) I’d suggest that you interact with others. One thing I always try to do is leaving an ask for the person I’m reblogging from - of course, sometimes I just can’t think of anything, but if it’s something as simple as dropping some question numbers, then why wouldn’t I leave them there and just pick a character I like?

9. Get inspired, but don’t become a copycat

This one…inspiration is great, but make sure you’re not taking it too far. I don’t want to draw a line where inspiration ends and imitation/copying begins, as I know that everyone sees it differently and what I’d consider copying someone else would still call inspiration, so basically, I’d just say follow your heart and be nice. Taking someone else’s storyline and just playing it step by step with your own characters is not okay. Also speaking of imitation - imitating a person’s writing style or sense of humor can sometimes be tricky. It comes natural to them, but you’re just trying to be like them and it might show and it won’t feel right. Allow outer sources to inspire you and shape you into a better writer, but stay yourself at all times and you’ll be just fine. 💕 

10. Play for yourself, not for other people

This probably should’ve been the first tip. Do the things you want to do, not the things that are currently trendy in the community. I mean, if you want to do the trendy thing, that’s fine! But if you’re only doing it because everyone else is doing it, well, you’re not going to enjoy it. Same with…let’s say you have a sim and she has to pick between two guys. A typical love triangle. You want her to end up with guy A, you have good reasons why you want her to end up with him, but your followers want her to end up with guy B. Maybe listen to their reasons and consider them, but in the end, you’re the one who’s making the decision. And if you still feel like she should end up with guy A, then just let her. Don’t completely give up everything to please your readers.

I can’t really think of anything anymore, but I think I’ve said enough. I hope it made sense. I wrote most of this on the train so yeah 😅 Also, sorry it took me so long.

Updates of a Rambling Nature

I am hoping to get in game again today and refresh my queue. I think as of now it is empty. While I continue to see an average of 2-3 people per week complaining that either the community is dying or whatnot... I have the exact opposite difficulty and point of view.

I find new TS3 blogs all the time simply through: -Other people re-blogging them -Shout outs -They commented on the post of someone else I follow -They liked or re-blogged one of my posts -They followed me -Etc. etc. etc.

I’ve followed at least 3 new blogs, and refrained from following a dozen others in the last week or so alone.

This post is a little rambly and long, so I’ll put the rest under a read more.

Since I don’t have a ton of free time anymore (Full time paid job, Part time volunteer job), I struggle to keep up with my dash a lot of times. Sometimes I have to choose between playing the game or looking at everything on my dash. I’m constantly bewildered as to how so many people seem to see the TS3 simblr community as dying. 

I mean, I sometimes refrain from or stop following blogs that post more than like 3 times a day because I feel it’s too much to add to my feed and I won’t be able to keep up. But not being able to find active blogs, etc. is a problem I’ve never encountered.

In any case, my paid job is going very well. My volunteer job has been a bit rocky this year, and while we are finally on track, absolutely everything is late late late late. What that means for me is that it eats up more of my free time while I try to assist others in meeting deadlines, soothe ruffled feathers, find solutions to things that are simply ‘too’ late, etc.

Anyone who has been following me for a year or so will know that I often go completely dark with only a queue if anything for the entirety of May (and last year April and June as well). It is unfortunately looking like this year I may end up going dark starting in April as well.

We shall see how things go, but this is a forewarning of what may be coming in the near future. On a side note, even if I’m not active at the moment, I will still respond to messages. Asks may get put off until I have time, but I’ll still respond to messages both here on Tumblr and on Discord. (If you want my Discord and haven’t got it, just ask!)

Also, to those of you tagging me for things, I just want to let you know... I’ve been saving re-blogs of the posts you tag me in as drafts. That’s my way of making sure I won’t forget, and can go back and hopefully actually do some of those tags later. When I have time. It’s just free time is increasingly scarce right now...

CC Creator Spotlight - Aveira

To kick this Simblr off with a bang, I’m starting out with a CC Creator Spotlight!

@aveirasims​ is one of my favourite Sims 4 creators. Whilst her gorgeous recolours feature heavily in my Mods folder, I am also proud to have a collection of her own CC in my game. I love scrolling through her Tumblr to see what is on offer, and often lose hours doing so. Her work is of exceptionally high quality, and I truly recommend her to everyone who uses MM CC in Sims 4! Aveira is currently on hiatus, but her work is still available for download on her Tumblr. Please take note of her terms of use before you download anything.

So, you’ve heard a bit about Aveira and her work. Hopefully you’ve gone to take a look at her Tumblr for yourself and seen what she has to offer, but in case you’re feeling exceptionally lazy, you’ll find links to the items I currently have in my mods folder after the break.

Alien Eyes #1 - I have this as Facepaint in both the white and black sclera variations. Truly beautiful eyes that really complement the look of the aliens in the base game. I like having both versions as facepaint to allow me to keep the same eye between the human disguise and the alien face of the sim without too much difficulty, with only the sclera changing colour.

Eyes #15 - I use the Non-Default version of this, as I have a different set of eyes set as Default in my game. These eyes come in a lovely range of colours. They are beautifully shiny, with lots of depth to the colours, and they maintain their beauty outside of CAS too! As an added bonus, they appear to work for Alpha as well as Maxis Match (see below).

Heterochromia (Eyes #15) - This additional file to Eyes #15 is a beautiful creation. I use the Facepaint variation, with no issues whatsoever. The recoloured iris even changes size according to the iris size beneath! It’s very clever, and works beautifully.

Lips #12 - Currently the only makeup I have from Aveira, this lipstick is gorgeous. The swatches are lovely and there is just enough of a shine to the lips to make me fall in love with this piece (as I don’t tend to like matt lipstick, on either myself or my sims).

KiaraZurk’s Medium Soft Wavy Hair Recolour - This is the recolour that led me to Aveira. The mesh for this hair is beautiful in and of itself, but the recolours Aveira has created are stunning. I use a slightly older version of this file, but I’m sure I will update soon to her brand new recolour swatches!

wildspit’s Angelic Hair Recolour - The first of four brand-new additions to my game, this is another example of Aveira’s amazing recolour skills. If I had the patience (and if my laptop had the processing power), I would download every single one of Aveira’s hair recolours just to drown my sims in the stunning palette. I’m really looking forward to playing around with these hairs.

wildspit’s Angelic Hair V2 Recolour - Though there is little difference on Aveira’s part between this file and the previous version, the hair mesh itself is slightly different. I couldn’t decide which I liked best, so I got both meshes and their corresponding recolours.

Chocolatemuffintop’s Coral Hair Recolour - I don’t have a huge amount of CC when it comes to afro, dreads or braids (not to be confused with plaits, which I have lots of). This mesh is stunning in and of itself, and Aveira’s recolours are the icing on the cake for me - especially as she included ombres! I’m looking forward to playing with this hairstyle in game.

Moon-Craters’ Minako Hair Recolour - I adore this style so much, and when I saw Aveira had done recolours of it in her new palette I couldn’t help myself. I just had to have it in my game! I always download the “All Colours” version of Aveira’s recolours, and this piece is a stunning example of why. Even a colour you wouldn’t usually use on your sims looks breathtaking when Aveira has applied it.
