It definitely does NOT feel like December should be over! But here we are, wrapping up the year of 2022 with December's reading list. This list is full of gems, I had such fun reading them and I hope you have a chance to enjoy them as well.

I was never a huge Data fan , I just wasn’t, he bored me for some reason as a kid and I still think he’s just okay, I liked Soji , but that first season felt all over the place , with a focus on Data and androids that I didn’t get invested in beyond a certain point. I think I made it to episode 8

I didn’t watch Picard season 2 once I heard he got together with Laris. I was also not drawn in because I’m not a Q fan. I loved Laris when she wasn’t his girlfriend though and I like Q in small doses, but not a whole season. I would have rather a season focused entirely on Picard’s fatherly relationships with Jurati, Soji or Elnor. I just wasn’t moved by the storyline.

I did like Seven more in Picard then I ever have. I really disliked her in Voyager, especially with the whole C/7 bad writing mess, but I liked getting to know her a little more in season 1 of Picard and was happy to hear that she was with Raffi, they are cute together from what I’ve seen on Tumblr. I don’t like that Raffi stalked Janeway though so I am a little uncomfortable being a super big fan of the Raffi character. But I like her

Season 3 is the season I’m enjoying the most because I’ve always been a P/C shipper and I’ve never gotten more than an episode or two here or there . This season feels like a gift I never thought I’d get.

And it features Seven in a supporting role where she gets to shine as part of a team and just vibe with folks and I really love that, it’s showing me all of her strengths , without making me feel like she’s shoe horned in like I did in so many Voyager episodes. She is fast becoming a character I would watch lead a series.

And I think Raffi and Worf have a good personality mesh together and that maybe he can help her channel her fire like he had to channel his and maybe she can help him find his fire a bit again.

I’ve never cared much about how Riker and Picard interacted , but I do find that showing them as emotionally close in a direct way intrigues me. R/T have always just sort of been there as a ship and it’s cool that they still are. I do hope we get at least one Crusher and Troi conversation.

So for me it comes down to plot more than characters, if this season had been about Picard and Worf or Geordi or Data or even Riker and Troi , I wouldn’t be as interested, but found family as a whole and the ship I’ve loved my whole life, yes please.

I wanted found family in the first two seasons and they went a different direction so this season is my cup of tea, it doesn’t have to be everyone’s though

Twilight Meta Review—Preface to Chapter 2

With the colder weather returning, it’s time for my Twilight reread, plus meta! So about three things I’m absolutely positive. First, the hate against Twilight was no doubt due more to its fangirl fanbase and its truly incompetent film adaptation than to its supposed demerits. This is still the best YA romance series I’ve read by a long shot—unfortunately, that is still not saying much. Secondly, Twilight stands out because at its core, it’s not even YA. It’s a (subverted) Gothic romance set in a high school. You could read this along with Rebecca and Jane Eyre and it would probably not be a total tonal shift. And thirdly, Edward is still unconditionally and irrevocably a cuttease. Stupid, sexy Volvo owner.

But! Lest you think my nostalgia goggles are firmly on. While most of it has stood up well, especially compared to the horrible writing of today’s YA, Twilight has its thematic and execution hiccups. Overall, it’s hampered by the fact that it’s effectively two classic love stories in one (with some Austen social comedy peeking in for some hi-and-bye). Overall they work well in tandem, informing each other in interesting ways, but occasionally they clash. Meyer definitely wanted to have both her cakes with this one. Interestingly enough, though, that’s what makes it so original. This was, in the end, a very fascinating fluke. All right, let’s go.

Preface: One Pair of Star-Crossed Lovers Sacrifice Their Life

I’d never given much thought to how I would die—though I’d had reason enough in the last few months—but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this.

I stared without breathing across the long room, into the dark eyes of a hunter, and he looked pleasantly back at me.

So begins this book with a truly eye-catching fake-out—of course, with the spoiler of Edward being a vampire on the back cover (the most effective marketing decision ever and I stand by that), the reader is immediately lead to the conclusion that the hunter might be Edward himself. And thus the book begins with sudden, immediate stakes.

This and the back cover spoiler effectively function like the R&J Prologue—at once giving away the whole plot while revealing none of the story. Meyer knows her classics—or at least her editors do.

1. First Sight: Cinderbella & Female Heroine Cred

My mother looks like me, except with short hair and laugh lines. I felt a spasm of panic as I stared at her wide, childlike eyes. How could I leave my loving, erratic, harebrained mother to fed for herself? Of course she had Phil now, so the bills would probably get paid…(p. 4)

Here we have the first reversal—Bella has actually taken up the role of the mother to her own neglectful parent, establishing Bella’s (forced) maturity and independent character. She is distant and self-aware about her father as well, calling him Charlie. A Cinderella situation, then, though with no evil stepmother.

It was to Forks that I now exiled myself—an action that I took with great horror. I detested Forks.

Bella is moving from her happy, sunny life in Phoenix to rain-drenched and very cold Forks and describes the move as “self-imposed exile.” Is it me or am I getting some Hades-Persephone vibes here? Even her closeness with her sunny mother is very telling…

“I want to go,” I lied. I’d always been a bad liar, but I’d been saying this lie so frequently lately that I sounded almost convincing now.

This is proven somewhat untrue by the narrative since Bella is able to deceive others, at least temporarily. Of course, it’s always mitigated by the fact that she turns her “open book” face away and other factors. Still, Bella is established not to have the clearest picture of herself and her abilities, like most girls. This is part of her arc—she definitely gains more confidence as the series goes on.

That would explain why I didn’t remember him. I do a good job of blocking painful, unnecessary things from my memory. […]

The thing, I thought to myself…it had possibilities—as a nickname, at the very least. (p. 7-8)

And thus begins Snarky!Bella’s running commentary. I hated how they effectively removed that in the film adaptation. Stewart would have done her throwing-shade humor perfectly.

But of course, it does reveal Bella’s unhappiness about Forks, her loneliness. Again, that Persephone parallel. Hell, in some versions Persephone deliberately went to Hades on her lonesome, even for the exact same reasons. And of course at the climax Bella would be determined to sacrifice her life for her mother.

To my intense surprise, I loved [the truck]. I didn’t know if it would run, but I could see myself on it. Plus, it was one of those solid iron affairs that never gets damaged—the kind you see at the scene of an accident, paint unscratched, surrounded by the pieces of the foreign car it had destroyed. (p. 8)

Though Bella can be low-key snobbish—there is that persistent negative contrasting of small-town Forks in favor of cosmopolitan Phoenix—her tastes are paradoxically quite humble and modest. It makes for an interesting contrast with the urbane Edward and largely informs her fascination with him. Opposites attract and they inform a key part of Bedward’s dynamic.

I didn’t relate well to people my age. Maybe the truth was that I didn’t relate well to people, period. Even my mother, who I was closer to than anyone else on the planet, was never in harmony, never on exactly the same page. Sometimes I wondered if I was seeing the same things through my eyes that the rest of the world was seeing through theirs. Maybe there was a glitch in my brain. (p. 11)

Bella is a most peculiar mademoiselle. She’s a beauty and a sin, she doesn’t quite fit in. She feels there must be more than this provincial life—Okay, I’ll stop now.

I kept my face pulled back into my hood as I walked to the sidewalk, crowded with teenagers. My plain black jacket didn’t stand out, I noticed with relief. (p. 15)

Bella has a consistent horror of standing out. Actually relatable, ha. Understandable for her age and introverted personality.

“That’s really kind of nice—for them to take care of all those kids like that, when they’re so young and everything.”

“I guess so,” Jessica admitted reluctantly, and I got the impression that she didn’t like the doctor and his wife for some reason. With the glances she was throwing at their adopted children, I would presume the reason was jealousy. “I think that Mrs. Cullen can’t have any kids, though,” she added, as if that lessened their kindness.

Aaaaaand Bella is justified in her throwing shade at Forks. -.- Yeah, these kids are not the sharpest tools in the shed. But they’re not gross caricatures of high schoolers—they feel very natural in their characterization. The film adaptation tried to play up their immaturity and vapidity, especially on the boys’ part, which wasn’t an inherently bad idea—it’s a quick and easy contrast with Edward and his family. But Book Edward is so obviously leagues above them all in maturity that Meyer doesn’t need to go all social comedy shenanigans with the rest of the characters. Movie Edward, though, is barely a convincing vampire himself.

As I walked down the aisle to introduce myself to the teacher and get my slip signed, I was watching him surreptitiously. Just as I passed, he suddenly went rigid in his seat. He stared at me again, meeting my eyes with the strangest expression on his face—it was hostile, furious. […]

I didn’t look up as I set my book on the table and took my seat, but I saw his posture change from the corner of my eye. He was leaning away from me, sitting on the extreme edge of his chair and averting his face like he smelled something bad. Inconspicuously, I sniffed my hair. It smelled like strawberries, the scent of my favorite shampoo. (p. 23)

Notice how even when Bella tries to avoid seeing him, she is still very much aware of him and everything he does. This is something that comes up over and over again throughout the book.

(But oh, the film adaptation really turned this scene into an utter farce, didn’t it? With the whole fan thing and nose-clutching and everything. Pattinson really dngaf here and/or got horrendous direction.)

I could see his hand on his left leg was clenched into a fist, tendons standing out under his pale skin. This, too, he never relaxed. He had the long sleeves of his white shirt pushed up to his elbows, and his forearm was surprisingly hard and muscular beneath his light skin. (p. 24)

Bella checking him out as early as page 24. Homegirl already has it bad. But again, it shows Bella’s sharp observational skills, turned up to a 1000 when it comes to Edward. There is clearly the Romeo in her.

The door opened again, and the cold wind suddenly gusted through the room, rustling the papers on the desk, swirling my hair around my face. The girl who came in merely stepped to the desk, placed a note in the wire basket, and walked out again. But Edward Cullen’s back stiffened, and he turned slowly to glare at me—his face was absurdly handsome—with piercing, hate-filled eyes. For an instant, I felt a thrill of genuine fear, raising the hair on my arms. The look only lasted a second, but it chilled me more than the freezing wind. (p. 27)

Even in the midst of the raging beast, Bella notes Edward’s beauty. Oh, honey. You are doomed. (That said, I get it. It’s all about the *snapping fingers meme* contrast).

But this scene is so cinematic, much better than the poor shadow of the film adaptation. The gust of wind, Edward stiffening and dramatically turning to glare at her, full predator mode, and Bella frozen like prey in fear and awe. And then Edward sweeping out the room and the oblivious maternal receptionist asking Bella how her day went. And Bella is Just Fine(tm).

Chapter 2: Trying Not To Look Unsuccessfully

Last night I’d discovered that Charlie couldn’t cook much besides fried eggs and bacon. So I requested that I be assigned kitchen detail for the duration of my stay. He was willing enough to hand over the keys to the banquet hall. I also found out that he had no food in the house. (p. 31)

And so begins Bella taking over the household duties for her father, just as she did with her mother. Cinderbella(tm) strikes again. No wonder she has trouble making friends her own age and relates better to decades-old vampires (!!). Bella’s character really is perfect for this type of story.

In Gym, the kids on my team learned not to pass me the ball and to step quickly in front of me of the other team tried to take advantage of my weakness. I happily stayed out of their way. (p. 37).

I like how Bella’s clumsiness is an actual character trait that doesn’t disappear when it’s convenient to the narrative. Hell, you have her falling on her way over to the ballet studio at the climax. That’s what I call consistency.

My chin raised a fraction. “No, she did not sent me here. I sent myself.”

His eyebrows knit together. “I don’t understand,” he admitted, and he seemed unnecessarily frustrated by that fact.

Most all the antis complain about how there is nothing about Bella that would attract Edward (as if attraction is ever logical). But this small moment very pointedly develops the rationale: Bella is as much a mystery to Edward as he is to her. Not only that, but she challenges his preconceptions and assumptions. And of course his attraction grows the more he gets to know her, as they are essentially birds of a feather.

Edward Cullen was leaning against the front door of the Volvo, three cars down from me, and staring intently in my direction. I swiftly looked away and threw the truck into reverse, almost hitting a rusty Toyota Corolla in my haste. Lucky for the Toyota, I stomped on the brake in time…I took a deep breath, still looking out the other side of my car, and cautiously pulled out again, with greater success. I stared straight ahead as I passed the Volvo, but from a peripheral peek, I would swear I saw him laughing. (p. 52)

Would have been a great (actual) humorous moment for the movie had it decided to include it. A lot of the book is tense, hothouse suspenseful romance, but there is some light and humor too.

he zheng's movie story plot gave me major call me by your name vibes so i rly wondered if the author was inspired by that to write this wn

supernatural s1e15 the benders (w. john shiban)

(this is a rewatch so spoilers abound)

starting off with the xf vibe in the teaser music, which this whole episode is very xfiles home (s4e2).... homage. beginning is surprisingly memorable just because it's not what i expected, i'm always stressed when a kid shows up but not this time!

also didn't realize hibbing minnesota was so far north, past duluth! i lived in the twin cities for 8 years or so. i guess donna was from hibbing, but no one lived there. but there was an episode title with hibbing in it (10x08) hence some of my confusion. anyway. to the bad humans!

(padalecki still with the crispy R on crazy. now i'm wondering if he always uses it and i just stopped noticing at some point)

i will admit that i saw something at a formative age that had an incredibly upsetting situation with a hot poker and so this scene also is distressing. at least it's not threatening sexual violence this time. but objectively, that's a gorgeous shot

Videogame music is so much more than normal music

Videogame music is so much more than normal music I believe that normal music, music that is made for the sake of making music doesn't hold, most of the time, the same weight that videogame ost holds when listening to it.Obviously music can hold a meaning, tell a story, spark emotions and help resurfcae memories, but this last one is especially relevant for videogame ost, as you have a sort of direct connection between the music and the memory of what you were doing when you listened to it during the videogame. My favourite example is Ultrakill. It's a fairly new indie fps game, still in early access (development started in 2020). Every level and every boss fight has their specific track, which definitely helps to associate the specific track to a specific moment of the gameplay.The game, being inspired by Dante's "Inferno" (which i will refer to as "the literature"), has the reccuring theme of Hell, death, danger, and the music really shows for it. Just so things make sense, a very short summary of the plot is that mankind is dead, you are a blood-fueled robot and the only blood left is in Hell, where humans had set up research facilities of some sort (the game is not finished, we don't know everything yet).Each layer of Hell has a theme inspired by the literature, for example in Layer 5 "Wrath" is ocean themed, because in the literature it's a putrid marsh fed by the River Styx; in the game, the River Styx has overflown because of the amount of sinners that ended up there. You can feel the theme of seas and oceans in the music, especially for the tracks "Deep blue" and "Death Odyssey" and every time I listen to those tracks i can rewatch myself playing the level, exploring the various rooms, surviving the arenas and the feelings connected to that, while if i started listening to any other type of music that i enjoy i definitely vibe with it, it's nice to listen, it makes me feel good, it relaxes me and everything else, but videogame ost have the power to take me away from where i am and make me re-live the same emotions connected to the game, whichever they are. Another example, also from Ultrakill, that also shows how videogame ost can't be understood fully by a non-gamer, is the track "Tenebre Rosso Sangue", that plays in a special level, a prime sanctum (therebare currently 2 out of 3 prime sanctums. They are special levels, very difficult, that require you to have near perfect skill to access them, let alone complete them).This specific level (named P-2:"Wait of the World"), is a climb towards a climactic boss fight against the soul of King Sysiphus (again, it makes sense if you play the game or watch footage of it, it's hard to explain) and "Tenebre Rosso Sangue" is the main track of the level, the build up to the boss fight. After completing the level, which can take a while considering the difficulty spike compared to the previous levels, i was left with a sense of pure bliss and satisfaction, the climax lived up to the crescendo of the level itself and now that I listen to the track, i love it for 2 main reasons:The music made for Ultrakill is (mostly) exaclty the type of music i already listened too, so it was easy to add some of the tracks to what i usually listen toI re-live that level, everyday, by just listening to the track and it hypes me up so much that it feels unreal.You can agree with me, you can deny what I'm saying, you could argue that it's too subjective of a feeling to understand what I'm trying to really say. 🐉 Do you like books about dragons? What type of story with them do you prefer? Dragonfall by L. R. Lam for sure was a ride. I'm surprised how much I was engaged by it even though it didn't feel like my type of book. Dragonfall follows two main characters. Everen is the first male dragon in ages who is destined to save his race. Arcady is a genderfluid thief whose dark heritage secrets can bring a painful death. A chance brings them together and they don't have any options other than to cooperate, but they both, of course, have a hidden agenda. Dragonfall is promoted as an adult fantasy, but for me, it felt rather YA. The difference is for sure blurred, but our main characters are rather young(and both describe themselves as barely adults) and the feeling of the plot and characters gave me distinct YA vibes. What I liked about this book: • Character dynamics. It was written well, and the tension between our characters was real. There was an enemies/lovers aspect and it worked. • The plot was interesting and I was always curious about what was next. Especially, I liked the heist part, who doesn't enjoy a good heist? • The concept and the idea of the world, the history of dragons and humans, the political, social, and religious aspects were nicely developed as well. What didn't work for me: • Characters. I'm just a little bit tired of edgy and prickly never trusting characters. I won't say they didn't have their reasons, I've just read too many such books and it didn't feel too deep for me. • Some writing aspects. The book has a lot of info-dumbs(especially the initial part), but still, some things were rather confusing. And at some moments in the book, I wasn't sure I fully understood what was going on. The ending was partly open but satisfying. Honestly, I'm rather eager to read the next book. Considering the first book hasn't been released yet, it's a lot of waiting for me. And my final rating for this book is 3.75/5. officially reached the "perpetual screaming" part of my xbc3 playthrough

just beat chapter 4 and i gotta talk abt it or else i cant sleep

this was the point i rushed story and actually ignored sidequests cuz as soon as they said they're going to castle keves i Knewwww they were gonna meet melia and n and i HAAAAD to see that so bad

and oh boy. did it fucking deliver.

listen man at this point i was trying to get everyone to rank 10 in all the default classes so i accidentally went into the melia fight with THREE HEALERS + a healer hero and let me tell you. YIKES. sure did make reviving allies a cinch though.

iwas. gonna cry so bad. I LOVE MELIA. OKAY? and fighting her makes me sad. ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE USES THE SAME MOVES AS HER XBC1 KIT. I GOT BRAINBLASTED SO MANY TIMES. and that was painful emotionally and gameplay wise

speaking of N. haha his goal is eternity which the ouroboros is a symbol for!! have thought the entire time that it's rlly fun irony how the names r kinda reversed. we, the ouroboros, symbol of infinity and perpetuity, are going around and breaking everyone else's loops and this whole fuckin perpetual motion machine we call society.

also GEEZ there's a mio-look alike too so she's head consul of agnus probably?

also fun how they're n and m which is also the letters melia and nia start with. almost as if this was a deliberate choice to name noah and mio this way

n gets MORE mysterious as noah gets sudden migraines bcuz of him and like IS THIS A CLONE SITUATION OR NAH? cuz eunie remembered HER past life so hard it gave her ptsd (great payoff to that this chapter too as she has an Actual Panic Attack when facing D again, BUT she uses her fear to bamboozle D with taion's help and that was EPIC and COOL because JESUS CHRIST DID NOAH AND MIO JUST GET BISECTED? YAS GIRL CUT OFF HIS ARM)

where was i. i love eunie also. high entia bias from melia? perhaps. eunie is also just great.

noah and n. what is this. i compared this to the shulk n zanza deal before (i should not use just n to shorten and when i am talking abt a guy named n) bcuz the current vibes with the 100% confirmation of reincarnation through ethel rlly makes it seem like noah is a reincarnation of N when N is. still alive. which is what shulk was to zanza kind of.

i gotta go to sleep now but xenoblade plot makes me go bark bark awooga. maybe i'll actually check out a xbc2 longplay after this and brave the anime-ness of it all for Lore

i rlly like that each game is its own thing and it only tells u the lore you need for This Specific Story like xbc1 doesnt need to tell you abt timeline split shenanigans cuz its Not Relevant Here u just need to know there was a guy named klaus who blew up the world once but the broader lore is still THERE if u wanna put it together

which i kinda dont cuz i'm an idiot. still rlly like it though :)

fav moment is when mio punched O & P in their dumb fucking faces and everyone angrily yelled at them abt ethics. well technically it was ethics but i feel calling it that undersells the sheer venom of "THAT'S OUR LIVES WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE! WE'RE NOT YOUR TOYS!" and then pushing a fucker off a cliff.

Let's have a look at my brain melting during this episode (there's a lot oops):

- Commando armor? Slicked back hair? HOLY FUCK GREGOR OMG THE BOY!!!!! WE ACTUALLY GET TO SEE THE BOY!!!!!! (wait hold up does this mean we might see Wolffe too? Not asking for a friend I'm asking for me)

- Eek this is giving me very much "Ahsoka being hunted by Trandoshans" vibes

- Hunter doing knife tricks....that's...well....AHHHHH

- Omg Omega trying to copy the little knife spins is so cute

- REX!!! HIM!!! MY FIRST LOVE!!! HE'S BACK AGAIN!!! YAY!!! Sweetheart that poncho is fantastic!

- Ok I have a feeling we are gonna get some Echo character development in this episode. The way Echo looked at Hunter was what got him to cave in and agree to go rescue Gregor. He knows it's the right thing to do and it's so interesting to me that Echo seems to have the strongest sense of moral obligation (aside from Omega). I have a feeling like this might clash with Hunter being the leader and honestly I wanna see how they handle that as a team.

FINAL THOUGHTS

- I just love clones more than life itself. Look at the boys go. I love them. I wanna give them all hugs (in regards to Tech…I will not kiss and tell).

- Gregor has and always will be so precious. Love that quirky boy so much.

- WTF IS GOING ON WITH REX??????? I NEED ANSWERS!!!!!!!

- Echo played such a major role in this episode and honestly I'm so glad. I still think there is so much more room to grow his character, but at least it's something.

- Gonky being that bitch this episode 👑

- Not sure if you've noticed, but my soul is no longer attached to my physical form. Tech has it. Tech owns my soul. I am more than ok with this.

- The last 5 minutes really just did that didn't it? Like jeez bro that was a lot

- Cross? Breaks? Hunter? Out? And? They? Both? Escape? After? Having? An? Emotional? Reconciling? PLEASE???????????

Overall, while I did really like the Ryloth episodes, I honestly think this might be my new favorite episode.

The episode itself was well paced

The stakes felt rather high

Fantastic action

Echo played a main part in the storyline

Contributed to not only the plot of the show but added context for how Gregor and Rex meet up

Tech flying and looking hot while doing it...that's very important to the overall ranking

It was engaging and intense with one hell of a cliffhanger at the end

So yeah I really liked this episode! I'm super excited to see what happens next (omg there's only two episodes left oh no scary)!

their main schtick is that nick is a wonderful amazing alien boy (in like 3 aus) and otherwise just a wonderful amazing boy. he does him some archery & shit, he is amazing in every way, he is hot, and he is @mr-loverbee's idea of a manwhore. cody is a human sack of shit. in p much every au he is a conspiracy theorist who lives in his basement, which his father set up for him after pulling him out of school in 7th grade. from there codys education consisted of 4chan browsing. since i wrote this character 4 the 1st time hes changed a little bit -- for one ive made his story a little more watertight and yk. just generally fixed it up. he was intended to be a joke character. he ended up being the reason i got a boyfriend. shit changes.

they are basically all relationship goals. thank you.

siuoll and yvonne? siuoll likes yvonne. yvonne really doesnt know how she feels. they are childhood friends with naivix, who loves them but continues to pursue a wider circle, leaving siuoll, the depressed homebody, and yvonne, the shy introvert, to fend for themselves. in most aus, siuoll considers cody, who joins their group very late, bad news. (basement dwelling alien? potential friend stealer??). yvonne and cody, though, become very close and reach a deep understanding. this group is cuddly. they are an outlet for cuddles. these four absolutely cuddle profusely.

maynrd and huntte? huntte is minding his own business. he is an upright prick who would never break a rule. he has a repressed desire to be a rock star and he keeps a guitar that he cant play hidden in his home. maynrd is annoying, flawed, and painfully charismatic. he is an actor, he wants to be seen, and he and huntte are matched mostly in their egomania. they are opposites and so they r vry funny to play and 1000% good corruption arc material. maynrd and huntte r go-to main characters for black-and-white morality plots -- superhero/supervillain, angel/devil, etc. these two are fun -- i love making huntte go absolutely batshit.

amorei is caught between the two. she starts pretty consistently as hunttes girlfriend, however, the two are similar in their strong wills and quick tempers. though maynrd, amorei, and huntte are three of a kind, they are just different enough that no matter how you slice it, it just doesnt pan out cleanly

most plots involve some sort of huntte corruption arc, or require maynrd to be hurt before the two realize how one truly cant exist without the other. a fantastic outlet for drama

to continue on amorei, after huntte turns his back on her, she pursues vaughn. though she still has feelings for huntte, she would prefer to ignore them and seek easy outlets for her bitterness as opposed to addressing the bigger problem. in some aus she is good friends with maynrd despite their love triangle -- they both need someone to gripe about huntte to, after all

vaughn tolerates amorei, though at the end of the day she isnt entirely invested in it. she cares, but in a distant way, and she isnt able to return amoreis angry passion. amorei deserves a lot better, in short

auriga & alexia r off 2 the side. auriga is often unexplored and alexia is mostly just the glue holding everyone together -- she spends a lot of time being the mom friend and putting others first. auriga is the one she goes home to -- in the sort of "main" au auriga is an empath who is troubled by the conflicts of the others (naivix ends up burning down the library where huntte works after a troubling event involving siuoll questioning their friendship in public (for additional context, in the frame of reference that troll romance gives, naivix is sort of kind of cheating on siuoll with cody in a friendship way). siuoll being jealous of cody leaves cody adrift in it all, he has no place to stay because he lives with naivix so he turns to auriga and alexia and eventually yvonne (who is roommates with maynrd). auriga is unable to stand his worry and grief surrounding where he stands with naivix. long story short, that was a long story and thats the very very short version)

continuing down the list, fedexx is troubled and tad is caught up in it. thats the only way im going to put it because thats an even bigger can of worms. fedexx is a sort of semi-friend to them all. tad is their latest conquest who gets a bit too mixed up in fedexxs shit, proving that tad is in fact the unluckiest bastard to ever exist by catching feelings for the guy. yikes. anyway.

falvyn and the green lady are assholes inspired by characters played by a batshit lady on a roleplaying server. falvyn hit on naivix and is, as such, portrayed as a creepy ex who preyed on naivix when he was too young to really understand what he was getting into. the green lady is either portrayed as his mother or as the omnipotent being she was originally cast as. yes. the lady who stands and watches cody for an extended period of time, calmly breaking down his worldview and providing incentive for codys once baseless paranoia. ah yes, exactly the way to handle an anxious, abused kid who learned everything he knows from his jackass dad. in one particularly spicy au, codys dad and the green lady are together, making flynn codys stepbrother. i could overexplain that one anytime -- the plot and character dynamics are amazing in my opinion. creme de la creme

i dont blame you if you didnt read this all the way through! ik its a lot & some of its dumb af but these characters hold a special place in my heart and they often feel like friends to me. several of them were the catalysts for some of my strongest relationships. i still act out these characters lives on a daily basis, they are growing with me as people. many of them started as two dimensional characters who gained a life of their own. they litter my sketchbooks, most of my writing is about them, they are the subject of so much of my conversations. they saw us in and out of some of the worst bits of our lives. hell, i even have a fucking naivix sticker on my computer that my boyfriend made for me.

Always Hungry

Blurb Harry is caught in a Death Eater pit trap during the war. He is dying alone and nobody knows he is in the trap. Except Severus who jumps into the trap with him. Only Death Eaters can find a way out of the trap. Severus gives Harry his full magic good and bad including the Dark Mark. Only one of them get to escape.

The intensity of Harry's hunger in the fic will leave you feeling creeped out and horrified. This is war, make no mistake. The narration is through Harry. His disorientation is chilling.

Rec note This fic gives off the vibe of Darren Aronofsky movies. Intense, suffocating and scary.

But there was no water, other than the condensation on the wall, and no food. No one came to check on him with a prisoner's rations – no dirty cups or mouldy crusts of bread. He had scrabbled about on the floor, in the corners, searching for signs of rats or bugs which he was sure now he might be able to stomach out of desperation. If Sirius could survive that way, so can I. If only I still had my wand.

Brown Sugar

Blurb A wartime and psychological trauma recovery fic. The Voldemort characterization for me.

An insane Voldemort finds out that the Malfoys managed to make a boy out of the Diary. He starts getting attached to this boy. He is taken captive by the Order when Severus betrays him. His sanity breaks down even more. Severus is the only jailer with kindness for him. The war goes on until Tom saves him and takes him to Montserrat where he recovers slowly. I really love the recovery part of the fic. It's done beautifully.

Brown Sugar is the first-person fic for me. The writing is devastating. The psychological characterizations for Voldemort, Albus and Harry are brilliant. Severus, his divided loyalties, how his hatred and love are sides of the same coin! The fic goes to really dark places of the human psyche.

"Give him his wand," Dumbledore ordered. Severus frowned, but he threw my wand at my feet.

"Pick it up," Dumbledore said quietly. "Let us duel."

I had done that to Harry Potter in the graveyard.

The incisiveness in plot and characterization in this fic is something I haven't encountered in my reading before. It doesn't hold back. It is intense, brutal, disturbing, unforgettable and exactly what it needs to be. A brilliant and chilling masterpiece.

The fic has a happy ending. Really healing conclusion which fits the story.

The narration is by Voldemort, with a first-person POV, an eerie choice. When he's crushed we are crushed with him. When he's healing we're healing with him. The first-person POV works brilliantly for this fic.

Rec note - I don't like Voldemort as a MC in slashfics. I don't find him that interesting in canon. But I am completely head over heels for this author's take on him and this fic! The fic I rec whenever anyone wants to know what the first-person POV can do! If you've seen Pedro Almodovar's movies like Pain and Glory it's that kind of feel - beautiful, disturbing and traumatic with a healing conclusion. With that said, this is an intense fic covering a lot of complicated topics.

This fic is unsettling and unpredictable. The Ministry keeps the prisoners in a dollhouse. Yes, they are made into tiny doll sized prisoners! There's a cat to catch them if they try to escape. The cat's called Attila.

Harry applies to be a prison warden. He wants revenge because his friends were killed in the war. Severus is a prisoner. We see where there is going. It's definitely not easy to read.

The second part of the fic is about Harry making amends. Snape is freed. They start a real relationship. This real relationship part I didn't connect with but it's a fic so it works with some suspension of belief.

What's not to love about this fic? The plot is amazing! The concept of the dollhouse prison. The brilliant writing in the conversations between Harry and Severus. Severus's characterization! He is a prisoner but he's definitely Snape. Harry's mental health. This fic covers a lot of ground without a lot of words.

Harry looked, and looked. Prepared for it though he had been, the sight still shocked him—a living, breathing human being, shrunk to the size of a toy.

Genre Angst! Brilliant angst! Mental illness. Character Death. No happy ending.

Blurb This fic has an incredible characterization of Severus but it doesn't stop there. A lot of Snape-centric fics focus on Severus's character development. This fic does a powerful Harry characterization which really drives the plot. He's got one task - kill Albus Dumbledore's murderer.

Harry goes to Spinner's End after the war to kill Severus. Severus is trying to die. He selected a really disturbing method. A spell that removes his magic. He is dying when Harry arrives. Harry saves him. That's good, right? It's a chilling and tense plot. Severus is suicidal. He's also attracted to Harry. They fight over a stuffed toy which both of them are disturbingly possessive about. Harry's mental health isn't good. It's a masterful tragedy that grips you and breaks you. No holding back here.

'You're just mad because I saved your life again.'

'I'm mad because I'm still alive. You, on the other hand, are simply mad. Why didn't you let me die?'

'Because knowing I'm going to kill you is the only thing that keeps me going.'

Blurb When they return from the DoM the brains from the tank are affecting Ron. He is weird and creepy. Everybody's scared of him. Except Harry. Harry goes in charging to save his friend. His idea of saving Ron is smutty and maybe not the best. It's Harry after all. But what really shows powerfully in this fic is how much guilt Harry has for taking them to DoM. What being Ron's friend and saving Ron means to him.

This fic has a great take on some of the canon questions I have around DoM around sideffects from Ron's brain attack. The smut doesn't feel smutty. It feels like friendship, if that's the right way to describe it? Harry's and Ron's relationship is way more than friends with benefits. Harry loves his friends. He carries a ton of guilt about what they went through. There's nothing he won't do for them. The characterization is on point.

Fifty Shades of Truth

Blurb Is Severus Snape really a noble Byronic hero? In this fic, he is a master manipulator. With total Gone Girl movie vibes, he manipulates Harry to depend completely on him, gets him to cut off his friendships with Ron and Hermione. Ron and Hermione don't give up on Harry. They keep trying to save him from Snape. They don't succeed in their goal. A disturbing fic because it hits too close to real life stories.

Harry could track him just as easily, but Severus knows he would not think of it, presents no real risk. After all, Harry was bred for this: born into chaos, raised in neglect and abuse, carefully moulded into the perfect pawn by Dumbledore. He was ripe for the taking, by the time Severus got to him.

Blurb Goat Song opens with setting stage in the village of Hogsmeade. So the people of Hogsmeade passed the time. They trod the boards and sang the chorus, and they waited for the hero to make his grand entrance. Because the Death Eaters are in control. Severus Snape has just killed Albus Dumbledore. He's now the Headmaster. He's visiting Aberforth. The reader discovers that they have a relationship. It's got some of the best descriptions of Severus Snape in fanfic I have seen.

Severus Snape was a novel show, a queer lad with an odd manner about him that disturbed most who met him, Albus included, and so gave Aberforth a good chuckle.

It's about goats. It's about absinthe. It's about first times. It's also about sacrifice. How does Aberforth save Severus after Nagini's attack?

Excerpts and explaining don't really do this fic justice so I am going to stop doing that. This author has a talent for writing poetry in prose. The characterizations, the pacing, the plot development - it's just incredible to read. It's as much about Aberforth's relationship with Severus as it's about both of their relationship with Albus Dumbledore. A delicate and beautiful intense fic .

Help Wanted: God and Executioner

Genre - Wartime angst with a happy ending

Blurb - What if the war hadn't ended in the seventh year? In this fic, the war is going on after Albus Dumbledore's death. It doesn't factor in Hallows. What we get instead is an army of child soldiers trying to end Voldemort. Severus is their informant from the enemy camp. Harry and Severus start meeting in Hagrid's shack in the sea to exchange information and make plans. It gets really brutal. The war is dragging on for years. People are dying. For strategists like Harry and Severus they are left to play the role of both God and Executioner.

A deep and intense fic which doesn't hold back on showing the horrible consequences of fighting this war. They both have a lot of coping mechanisms... The characterization of Severus here is incredibly nuanced - he does what needs to be doing and still tries to stay human.

Sometimes it is the smallest things that allow us to retain our humanity in times like these.

Harry! This Harry is so tired of the war left on his shoulders after Dumbledore's death. He's got Ron and Hermione. But he is really struggling with the kind of decisions and strategies he is forced to make.

In his more bitter moments, he wondered if they could just stop all this fighting and uncertainty and lay it out in the open. War as poker. I bet you a Neville Longbottom. I'll see that bet and raise you a Draco Malfoy. I'll see your Draco Malfoy and raise you a Ron Weasley. Call.

The fic has a happy ending for Harry and Severus!

The Snape of the 2000s before the last books were published. Ambiguous morality? Check. Ambiguous motivations? Check! Ambiguous allegiances? Check! His characterization confuses the reader just like it confuses poor Harry. A brilliant and ambitious plot that delivers on everything it promises and some!

Snape kidnaps Harry and trains him to defeat Voldemort. Kind of. He keeps Harry isolated and dependent on him to make sure that Harry trusts him. The fic is really dark especially on the psychological side. Harry has a terrible life. This fic doesn't hide or lighten up that stuff. How can he actually defeat Voldemort? Why isn't Dumbledore training him? A lot of the questions before Hallows was published have super creative answers in this fic.

"Please," he said, eyes still closed. "I just -- I need to understand."

A rustle of robes. "What is there to understand? I used you, Potter, and Voldemort is dead, and you're once again a hero, and I'm once again a traitor. Congratulations on a game well played."

It is a heavier fic. Definitely look at the warnings!

The ending fits the fic. Sometimes even on really good fics I feel like the ending doesn't match the fic. This one knocks it out of the park.

Rec note I kind of have lost track of how many times I read this fic. It's just an absolute thriller. Reading for the nth time doesn't make it feel dated or boring which can happen with older fics sometimes. I got a Matrix Agent Smith movie vibe from this fic.

"So what was the point if you didn't let me listen? Just to make you feel better about the whole thing? I can't even-- I can't relate to you. I feel like I'm talking to an alien." "Speak with a lot of aliens, do you?"

Genre - hard to categorize. It's set in wartime. Character study. Happy ending!

Blurb - The fic that got me started on the idea of making this list! Unique, brilliant and unsettling.

A character study of Severus Snape. How does he see the world? How does he think about the major players in his life? In this fic his mother raised animals for slaughter and curing. So from his childhood Severus thinks about beauty and personality in terms of fat.

Snape had long ago learned that he was not one of the Beautiful. The Dark Lord, though – the Dark Lord was all economy of motion and languid ease, all sharp impatience and sleek insinuation, all burning coals held behind a sheet of ice. He smelled like sweet smoke rising from a sacrifice of flesh, and his voice was the low crackle of the fire devouring the meat. He was the altar and the fat upon it, and he sacrificed to himself, and he would pull Snape up onto his fire and burn him, and Snape would be remade into a thing of beauty himself.

Harry is oranges and freshness in comparison. There is a powerful scene where Severus is rubbing orange juice on his Dark Mark to clean it. The fic goes on to describe Dumbledore, Lucius and Draco on a similar note.

Blurb A gorgeously written fic. It is poetry written like prose. You know what they say about words touching you in the soul? This is that kind of fic. It gives me the vibe of movies like A Beautiful Mind. Remus centric. It starts with Remus getting the news about the Potters death and Sirius's betrayal in 1981. The ending is in Harry's fifth year when Sirius and Remus are reunited in Grimmauld Place.

. He wants to tell Dumbledore to feel the weight of Sirius’ name around his neck heavier than penance, go on, Headmaster, stretch your hands out across the empty bed, remember the edges of his teeth at dusk once a month as you rebirth yourself under the hot white acid-flood of the moon, and don’t forget, don’t ever forget how much he never loved you. Do this, again and again and again, as many times as your brittle life will allow. Then, Remus thinks, then you can speak to me of strength.

The characterization of Remus, Sirius and Harry are brilliant. Sirius especially is one of the best Sirius characterizations I have read in fic if not the best! But it's also the rare m/m slash fic that puts in just as much into female characters like Fleur and Tonks.

“What I’m saying—what I’m saying is, it feels like the world left me behind,” says Sirius, leaning over to blow out the last candle and tug the quilt over them. “And it did, didn’t it? I feel like I’m just now starting to catch up. With myself, as much as anything.”

This fic is definitely angsty - it's the kind of angst that you don't want to stop feeling it anyway.

Blurb Amanuensis has some delicious dub con fics. In this fic, new mom Narcissa is giving advice to pregnant Lily. Lily wants advice on how to raise a wizard child because she is feeling some insecurity as a Muggleborn who married a pureblood. She wants to impress her in laws. Narcissa uses this as the chance to show how Slytherin she is. She does things under the cover of teaching Lily on how to be a good Wizard mom.

Good dub con fics are hard to come by. Especially in femslash. This fic doesn't try to be anything other than one thing and one thing only.

Lily could read that smile. That smile said it understood why Lily was there, even though Lily could hardly put it into words herself. She didn't like Narcissa--hated the bloody woman. Hated her and her pureblooded house and pureblooded husband and her undisguised contempt for all things muggle--and muggle-born. So why had she accepted Narcissa's imperious summons--nothing like an invitation--to visit and learn first-hand what was expected of a mother with a wizarding newborn?

A Necessary Evil

Voldemort is defeated but he's got one more plot! He makes himself into a fetus in Albus Dumbledore's stomach. Severus and Harry have to figure out how to get rid of Voldemort from Dumbledore's body without letting anybody else know about this problem...without killing Dumbledore in the process. Dumbledore being Dumbledore wants to love the fetus and give it a second chance. If this sounds like a whacky crackfic it really isn't. It's subversive and brilliant in some of the subjects it's looking at like abortion and ethics. Like Help Wanted: God and Executioner which we saw on the list before in this fic we are back to looking at the greater good. Poppy wants to protect Albus's rights as his healer. Severus and Harry want the fetus gone. Lucius has some agenda.

"Yes," Albus said mildly, as if our objections were absurd. "I plan to bear the child."

Poppy shook a thick sheaf of medical records at him. "Albus, you're 156 years old. You're not in the best of health. This is so far beyond medically unwise that it borders on the suicidal."

"We're talking about an infant," Albus said, shifting a bit against the mound of pillows piled at his back. "A veritable tabula rasa."

Tabula rasa? A grimy scrap of parchment with runes written in shit was more like.

The fic goes in some unpredictable directions but it lives up to the ambitious scope it tries to cover. The YMMV part in the fic is Harry's characterization. It is definitely closer to overpowered/grey tropes but we have to remember that this fic was written in 2004 before tropes like that were super common. Put in that context the fic has a lot of interesting things about Harry's characterization.

Rec notes - First-person POV! Severus's POV works here brilliantly to show us that picture of horror and desperation when he is working against time to save Dumbledore and get rid of Voldemort. Dark humor in dark times! First-person POV makes this fic what it is - personal and incredibly powerful as we share in Severus's worries about Harry, Lucius, Voldemort and Albus.

Odysseus's Last Days

Blurb - This fic is heartbreaking. Harry saves Severus. He doesn't save himself. Severus's mourning and how the Weasleys and Hermione support him is crushing. This is a great fic. Angst is hard to write in a realistic manner without going overboard. Somehow this fic manages that beautifully. It's definitely going to find its way into your thoughts and stay there.

Blurb A political intrigue fic. Unique and clever. Femmequixotic is incredibly talented at writing this kind of thriller and sneaking in a bunch of emotionally fraught relationships between the main characters. Draco's characterization here is rich and layered. This is fast paced. No dull moment. But if you stop and think you see the terrible decisions everybody made in the war to just survive.

Draco sleeps around London and scandals are happening because of him. His father who is the Minister in Voldemort's government sends him to Cornwall. He starts discovering secrets about the Order. We find out that Draco was working for the Order. He went back to Lucius when Severus is killed. But Lucius saved Severus and stashed him in Cornwall. Severus is now helping Order members to escape to France. Draco has to make a choice between staying with his father or leaving with Severus.

Rats' Alley

Blurb Sirius and Severus are prisoners in Lucius Malfoy's dungeon. The situation makes Sirius find out Severus is a vampire. It's a nonstop action and adventure after that. The feels! Sirius thinking about Azkaban, how he used to be before Azkaban especially when it was about sex. Sirius is a man who is kind of frozen in time. He has got a great sense of fairness. Chess is his main coping method.

Always it had been like that for him -- seeing the chess board clear and entire, every move forward and backward for ten moves on either side. Unlike life. In Azkaban, he had torn bits of his tattered clothing off to make chess pieces. It had kept him sane. He looked about him, studying the dungeon again. Captivity made sense. It was life that was confusing.

Like a lot of fics written before the final books this one has a pureblood Severus Snape and a halfblood Sirius Black. Cruel stepfather makes child Severus a vampire. Lucius gets him to sign up with the Death Eaters promising acceptance because the Ministry treats vampires really badly.

The fic is about Severus finding acceptance with Dumbledore, Sirius, Harry and other students at the school just like it's about Sirius finally figuring out what falling in love means for him. It's got a happy ending!

Rec notes I didn't think a Creature Fic was going to show up on this particular list. FabulaRasa's Sirius characterization is absolutely brilliant. Leaving this fic out was impossible.

Blurb Severus's characterization is a bit like Sherlock in the TV show. This fic predates the show though. He's a happy kid. Running experiments, reading books and avoiding his mother. Rare fic where he has a good father and a not so good mother. His birthday gift from his father is an ant farm. It makes kid Severus really happy.

How could he even know if he wanted friends or not? He was still finding out how people fitted together. He knew a good deal more about ants, for example.

It gets really serious and dark pretty quickly. Severus falls into Lucius's orbit. He signs up with Voldemort. Severus learns how to Slytherin in order to survive.

Another fic written before the final books with a pureblood Snape backstory. Like a lot of the fics in this era the author has a creative take on the character. I honestly don't know if another HP character got great fics written about them by so many talented fanfic authors during the books, after the books came out and even now. Pretty sure that this is my just reading bias. Anyway.

Style of writing! This one has a Terry Pratchett vibe to it. I really like how both Severus and Lucius are shown here.

He could hear Lucius ordering something, in a low voice, ending with, “...and get on with it or I’ll make you set fire to your feet.” Oh well, that was reassuringly normal. Lucius never did dreadful things to the house-elves himself. That was their job.

Rec note The take on Dumbledore has a strong bias. I don't generally like to read or rec fics with this kind of bias in his character. But the fic overall is unique with some strong standout moments.

The Order would definitely regroup and continue. But it will take them time.

Minerva's characterization here is just perfect.

She will soldier on, she knows, because that is what she does. And because anything else would be surrender, which she doesn't do.

The relationship between Rolanda and Minerva is tender and comfortable. It's dark times. But they have each other.

This is a hauntingly beautiful fic that will leave a impression. Writing, plot, characterization, narration - everything fits together for a unique fic.

This world is really dark and full of suspense.

The Ministry was his life, and had been since his fifth year of Hogwarts when he was called into McGonagall's office to discuss his career path, and yet he was impetuously destroying everything he had ever believed in for Malfoy, crushing his--his religion for this man.

Sacrifices need to be made. Draco takes the Horcrux in Harry's scar so that Harry doesn't have to die.

Malfoy's hand twirled above them as if he intended to pluck his words from thin air. "We're all our own greatest enemies and our own bravest champions. When our story ends we only have to hope that we've played all the right parts."

The love between Draco and Percy, Draco's characterization. Percy changing because of Draco. This is a gorgeous fic and unforgettable. Percy's funeral speech is heartbreaking. If you have seen The Spy Who Came In From the Cold it's that kind of vibe.

For one searing second, as pure and without conscience as a flame, a tiny smoulder in the corner that could burn down a house, Harry knew for certain he would someday fuck Snape. He wanted it, and he would make Snape want it, too. Even if it meant choking him into submission. Even if he had to use the collar to persuade him.

The fic is intense and complex. But it has a bittersweet and hopeful ending. Harry manages to free Severus from the wards. Severus frees Harry from Voldemort's curse. How are they doing that? Arithmancy. No, really.

Because the power to do so is based in the arithmantic complexities and interactions of emotions you can't control.

If In Between Days has the Snape characterization of the 2000s before the last books came out, When the Rose and the Fire Are One has the Snape characterization post-Hallows for me. I'm kind of used to getting my heart broken for either Harry or Severus in Snarry fics. This fic got me crying for both of them. Like I mentioned on another blurb, it's pretty common for fics with Snape as a MC to focus on his characterization more. He's definitely one of the most complex characters in canon so I see why the fics focus on him more. This fic has brilliant and an unforgettable characterization for him. But it's also got an equally powerful and unique one for Harry which matches the intensity of the Snape characterization.

Rec note - Sometimes a fic kills you with its intensity so much and you cannot really think about anything else. This fic made me take a break from reading Snape centric fics for ages because I didn't want to read another type of characterization for him. It was just perfect for me. With all that said, this is a heavier fic. It had such a total Never Let Me Go movie vibe to it. Uncomfortably human in a place where you least expect it.

"hope you've been well" readers r not well reading this

tbh the biggest "plot twist" in the story is how it feels like gu zhuoyan is set up to be the "wife chaser"---from the manhua promo pics showing him as the cold and aloof city guy in contrast to zhuang fanxin's naive and sweet countryside boy look, gu zhuoyan having stricter parents, gu zhuoyan being way richer, the setting of "he's only staying for a year", gu zhuoyan saying things like “i’ll make him fall for me to get back at my parents”, so i was rly shook when it's actually zhuang fanxin who constantly breaks his promises (though unintentionally) and becomes the "husband chaser" post-timeskip

their breakup chapters made me tear up ngl it was so drawn out and so so sad

the post-timeskip chapters r so fukin heavy?? like the author "tried" to make it a "romcom" with zfx chasing after gzy but there r so many inconsistencies in zfx's behavior and he's changed so much that one can't help but feel like there is something Extremely Wrong here

fak i was so invested in pei zhi and lu wen since they met in their teenage years but the author nvr stated they'd be a canon side ship but i still! shipped them!!!!

it's moumou but more depressing; i'd compare moumou to yybl's pts/fjx and hybw to waterfire, they kinda have that kind of vibe ish. moumou is very... at the core the drama is family-centered and jiang tian/sheng wang r rly quite "ideal" strong leads, and nothing drastic happens during the time skip, but in here zfx suffered so fukin much holy shit i'm so glad he got retribution and can finally be happy with gzy

there was a review that complained how zfx is inconsistent post timeskip, how he’s a “bad cop” professionally but turns into a muddling teenager when w gzy, and i just… rly disagree with that lmao like it’s p clear how he turned out like that, how he built this “stronger, better self” so he could cover up his history of depression and make it seem like he’s a better match for gzy than in the past

god when it was revealed that zfx's "let's break up bc i fell in love w someone else and he wants me to delete ur contact" call to gzy was a call he made before he attempted suicide and just wanted gzy to let go and move on to find someone better my heart broke… he literally called gzy and was happy to hear his voice before what he thought would be his death

other things that make me think: it was mentioned that zfx chased after gzy so desperately like his life depended on it, and zfx did say that if gzy rejected him, he'd just continue to live on and wish him well, but i just wonder what zfx would have done after that, is he rly ok, would he lapse back to thinking that there's nothing else worth living for anymore, bc gzy was literally his lifeline during his darkest times

the "op-ness" of mc n ml aren't overly emphasized unlike most other school setting danmei where both of them have legions of fangirls and campus forum posts abt them, it's kind of a minor detail but i appreciate the lack of cringe

pei zhi and lu wen aren't canon /unreasonable tbf the author nvr stated theyre gna be canon, nor did these two seem to have romantic inclinations towards one another... but the chemistry... the subtext... compared to cheng jiashu who doesn't seem to make a good impression in general ofc lu wen seems like the better option… also the author straight up said cheng jiashu is a plot device LMAO he literally only exists to move the story along…

has that v kdrama like climax where everything near the end suddenly becomes super dramatic, like the development is logical and laid out well but it's still... v dramatic…

lowkey the summary is misleading i thought they’d meet on a blind date after their separation as in their intended blind date is each other but then it was actually a wrong room situation instead… nothing wrong with it but webnovels and misleading summaries name a more iconic duo

You and kirishima vibe while he is a madman.

You all have dogs (i swear this part is important),but katsuki lost his in one of the mushroom forests, and then Kirishima keeps his in the mine so they can mine together (so cute)

Katsuki threatens your dog because hes sour he lost his, If youre away from the school, Kirishima will call you everyday, the exact same time everyday youre gone, unless youre in the car.

Bakugou pops in everytime, whether its just him yelling in the background, or hes yelling closer to the phone, calling you either a nickname he has for you, or a dumbass

We love him

Kirishima tells you a joke everyday, after he asks you about your day.

You had talked to them before leaving about that o n e family member, and it went like this,

“Oh babe! Theyre so unMANLY!!” -Kirishima

“WHAT ARE THEIR FUCKING NAMES?” - spiky boy

They’ll promise you they’ll have a big surprise when you get home

“Hi babe! How was today?” Kirishima sang through the phone, resting on Bakugou’s bed on his back.

Him and the blonde missed you so fucking much, but family events are family events, even if you have that… one person who isnt real manly all the time.

“I-its fine.” your voice wavered through the phone, and he sat up quickly causing Bakugou to avert his eyes from his phone and fix onto the redhead.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Kirishima asked, he didn't want to push you. He knows sometimes it's not best to face the problem, but just steer away from it for a second.

“Speaker.” The blonde commanded the redhead.

Kirishima nodded, and quickly clicked the phone.

But still nothing from your end.

“Dumbass, are you there?” Bakugou’s voice bellowed through the room, Kirishima was quick to punch him in the arm and shoot him a glance.

There was a moment on your side, and you began to talk.

“I don't like it here.”

There was silence on both lines, before you spoke again.

“Am- Am I annoying?” Your voice wavered, and broke. Kirishima felt like his heart was shot with an arrow, and Bakugou just seemed frustrated. That's not unusual but it was different this time.

Both you and Eijirou can tell the difference between his normal loud anger, and his different ‘I'm angry at you because you just talked yourself down’.

“You idiot, you're not annoying. Who said that to you? Because they’re fucking wrong.” Bakugou moved towards the phone, and Eijirou handed it to him.

“Teddy bear, they’re fucking wrong, okay?”

All there was on your line was, sniffling.

“I know they fucking suck okay? But once you get back, we can do whatever you want.”

“Anything at all?” You asked, he could hear you plotting over the phone, but he and the redhead couldn't help but smile.

“Yes babe, anything.” Kirishima butted in, and smiled at him. Bakugou rolled his eyes and continued,

“I’ll even fucking cook for you and shitty hair.” The blonde grumbled. You chuckled over the phone, which gave him a small amount of relief.

“Okay, uhm, when I get back can we just cuddle?”

Kirishima laughed, and agreed with no hesitation.

“In Katsuki’s room babe?” he beamed at the blonde to his side, as you giggled over the phone.

“Yes, in Katsuki’s room.” The blonde pushed his boyfriends head to the side, and kept talking.

“Youre amazing okay? Whoever said that doesn’t know shit. You're not annoying. No matter if I’ve made stupid jokes or some shit, youre not fucking annoying.”

Another sniffle from your line again, and you chuckled slightly.

“You promise?”

“Yeah, of course I fucking promise.”

“Me too!” you could hear Eijirou beam through the phone, and felt better. You had a few more days until you could see them again, but the daily phone calls are better than nothing.

“And I-I’m not annoying?”

“No you're not babe. You're so far from that, I- is there a word for unannoying?”

You heard a smack, and Kirishima complained, so you figured your blonde loudmouth boyfriend smacked him.

“Okay, hes fucking stupid. Youre fucking delightful, okay? You're not annoying and I swear if i ever get my hands on whoever said that im litera-”

“Okay! We are nOT finishing this sentence, but pebble he is right.” Eijirou continued the blondes sentence without the threat this time.

“That he's going to beat up my family member?” You asked, and you swear you heard Bakugou snicker.

“YES.” Bakugou shouted into the phone.

“NO” your other boyfriend countered him and kept going.

“We will NOT beat up pebbles family members, but we CAN confirm that you are delightful and we love you okay? We love you a lot and a lot!”

“I love you guys too and- I miss you guys.”

You craved cuddles from your boys, even though you weren't tiny, you still felt so small compared to them, and you missed the feeling of them next to you.

“I miss you guys a lot.”

“We miss you too babe, okay? And we cant wait to see you.”

“Yeah babe, we fucking miss you. We miss you a lot.”

You smile, and there's silence for a moment on both lines.

“Question.” You stated with a smile, and Kirishima immediately responded.

“Yes!” It sounded like he had fallen off the bed, but you kept talking.

“Hows our world?”

You asked about your shared minecraft world, knowing sometimes Bakugou likes to wreak havoc on 3D block worlds.

“Alive!” your redhead boyfriend basically yelled into the phone, oddly suspicious.

“Can our loud blonde confirm that?” you asked, snickering.

And, silence.

“I take your silence as…”

“Its fine you fucking nerd, your fucking dogs fine.”
