thinking about dl!scar makes me sad for many reasons but one of the worst is thinking about him knowing far too well that grian is unhappy with him and just having to live with that

I am very concerned about this plot thru line that Normal desperately wants to help and is also a complete failure at it. Just some of his greatest hits (though he definitely wasn't the only one involved in some of these fuck ups)

thought he could fix hermie, actually opened the door for him to get horribly physically scarred and having the identity crisis of the century

Going to try and save his dad and uncle and ending up on the complete opposite end of an intense ethical debate

Definitely made Pepperoni Tony's marriage way worse before. not that it mattered in the end ig

Bringing Brad back to life only for him to be a miserable shell who resents every moment spent on earth

and the latest, trusts link to help him resolve the love anchor with empathy only to get the rug out from under him Again

So. Yeah time and time again Normal tried to do the empathic thing, tries to help people, and just Can't. And I'm very worried (read: excited but sad for him) about the direction this is setting for the rest of the season specifically as it relates to Normal and the Doodler.

It's growing increasingly likely that Normal fails to help it. I don't know what's going to actually happen, I don't think the cast knows what's going to actually happen, as long as Anthony was telling the truth about it being a dice roll. But either he fails or he nearly does we'll have to wait and see. Whatever happens I think this particular part of Normal's story (These are actually all themes of the podcast at large but i am going to mostly focus on normal and the doodler here barbecue otherwise this would be extra obnoxiously long.) touches on a few things.

-Agency

For Normal, so many of these failures (especially the anchor related ones) result after his agency and control of the situation has superseded. Pepperoni Tony's death was entirely outside of his control. he trusted his friends to help him with the anchors and they violate that trust and act in direct opposition to his interests while he is powerless to stop them.

The Doodler too, in spite of being a eldritch god of massive power, is lacking agency. It was hauled into reality without it's consent, was an unwilling passenger of the Oak family for generations, hell it's own summoning at the end of season one was not a result of its own actions. Other people's desire to use it's power or to prove their worth against it etc etc paved the way for all of that. It didn't tell the twins the prophecy. It didn't tell Lark who the Unsung Hero was.

-Projecting, the limits of support, and putting your own mask on first., whatever you want to call it.

There is this idea that you have to get your shit together before you're ready to help other people, and its true to a degree but its also not how life works. You have to be willing and able to keep working on yourself with the support of other people while also supporting them to do the same. I think one of the chronic problems of 90% of the cast is they are fucking up this balance one way or another. Normal's problem is layered. He really believes that its either one or the other and it you cant help yourself and someone else at the same time. So hes using it as an excuse to say Nope hes good actually he's done his growing his mask is totally all the way on and its time to Help People. because his family is selfless and self-sacrificial to the point it swings back around and is selfish again. He can't help anyone effectively because its a two way street and he's closed his side down.

-Cycles

small scale cycles, in the repeated breaking for Normal's trust. (Of intra-party trust in general which I could go off about some other time.) His trust in his father and his uncle has been under fire from pretty much every angle. Every time Normal trusts his friends they screw him over.

the obvious cycle of the burden of the Doodler in the Oak family, Normal and Lark both sitting on the throne. I mean what more can I say. And my personal favorite. The cycle of reaching out and failing. It haunts the Oak family. Hildy reached out to her son as he got lost to the call of power and failed. Barry reached out to try and mold Henry into his shape and failed. Henry tried to reach out to everyone around him and continuously came up short and his sons turned out all the worse for it. Sparrow reaches out to express his overbearing concern with his son and blunders it entirely. Normal reaches out to his friends and the slap his hand away, he reaches out to The Doodler and is steadily falling short of actually helping it in any meaningful way.

Short answer: If i could summarize it in a funny way, they're kinda like exes and Faker cant get over him, continously finding new ways to court him. Not "creating a new profile to see his instagram" exes. He's the "I'll throw a brick at your car's window while if u reject me again" type. He's insane over him tho

Scorched rejects him everytime, cuz he knows he's a bitch and unsufferable...except in some ocassions.

Long answer:

imma be real and honest with you i have no idea how these two would meet, and i cant remember if they've had any type of "canon" interaction either by Scorched's creator or Faker's. However, i kinda have some stuff to fill in the blanks, its VERY open to changes in the future tho

They met by complete accident while Scorched was floating in the void, at first, he only saw Faker at certain ocassions while he tried to snatch Hog's body, like a shadow at the corner of his eye, who was often watching silently to see how Scorched managed to escape the personal Void made for him, Faker is able to see it, thru any reflective surface (Picture Giratina in Distortion World) and seeing Scorched's efforts to get out while slowly getting consumed by madness picked his interest

After Scorched destroyed Hog's universe to a crisp and kept the burned, scarred look, that's when the breach between both was broken and they were now in the vast universe of Exes. Scorched was confused and lost, rightfully so, and thats when Faker comes in.

At first, Faker planned to keep Scorched to himself like someone who could spread his components around so he himself could escape his own void, considering how strong, and capable Scorched was of destroying shit + his regular anger issues. At first he would talk to him in his head kinda gaslighting him into thinkin this was a normal ocurrance in the exe world, and then revealing himself thru mirrors and water he could see himself in. When they finally came face to face (in the water) Faker realized some things all at once

Scorched was now bigger than he expected

He was a lot less angry than when he was trapped in his void, and actually very eloquent

He's not as stupid as he thought he would be.

Faker still kept pushing his plan and trying to convince Scorched with his views, but Scorched interrupted him with the "Now that sounds like bullshit" and "Why would i want you to get out i just got here i cant get myself in more trouble than i already im"

Faker kept at it, to no avail, cuz Scorched was very set on just surviving with any scraps of energy he could find, he didnt really felt like helping a random ass exe to dominate the whole world or whatever, rightful thinking if u ask me.

And for a while, that was that, until they met in person, more especifically Scorched accidently entering Faker's little pocket dimension (Visualize the background he has in Faker, in the mod)

For Scorched, it looked like a regular exe pocket world partially destroyed and dead by whoever resided it, he has seen a few of these before in his search for energy (except this one had some silly little flowers with teeth, like in Lord X's), with the key difference of an absolutely RANCID vibe attacking his nose and being. It was strong and uninviting. He has found the place where the voice in his head resides.

And boy, was it fun? For Faker i mean, at least for a while.

Faker would not let him go just like that, not without having fun with him first.

He would torture him psicologically, hurt him in fights to the brink of death, demostrate how strong he really was compared to the imperfections Scorched developed during his time in his own void, he would call him weak, try to break him mentally.

But Scorched held on. He fought back, and he spat at Faker's face at any given chance he had were he offered him to work with/for him. He would very very audibly reject him again and again.

And Faker was...fascinated. At how an inferior being such as Scorched could reject him so easily and stand his ground against him. Wasn't he scared of death? Specially by his hand?

He was even more taken aback by the fact he couldn't get himself to kill Scorched or leave him bleeding out; he would always put him back in shape snapping his fingers so he could fight again or give him space to recover, he would always ask him to join him instead of forcing him to, and even if his insolence was met with more aggression, it was starting to feel personal by the way his own voice sounded irritated each time and he stomped the ground in anger, like a child being denied something. (Little prince of the void is not used to being denied things)

Faker would tell himself it was all part of a bigger plan, that there was no fun in trying to force him to do things with him if he was so absurbdidly powerful (And being honest, even if it disgusts him, thats an aspect he got from Lord X)

As time passed, Faker was starting to develop some sorta odd feelings for Scorched. Not the traditional romantic feelings tho

He was fascinated by his existence, often irritated by the way he snapped back at him without fear, the way his words seemed to cut deeper than his claws; it made Faker feel angry, grumble to himself and stomp the floor and yell at the sky, but at the same time, it was something so new and out the usual shit. Scorched was fearless and confident, even face to face with the prince of the Void

As if he wasn't someone to be feared. As if he didn't knew who he was

One time, Faker tried something different. He tried being...nicer, softer. Long fingers touching Scorched's shoulders and his voice low, deep and close to his face. He didn't threatened him, he just asked again if he really didn't want to join him. Scorched's was surprised, super confused, but overall...flustered, stumbling over his words and looking away from Faker. And it made Faker's whole fucking brain break for a second.

Well shit, that's cute. As cute as it can get for someone like him at least.

He didn't had time to try it again and prove his theory further because Scorched managed to escape, and by the time Faker noticed he was already lost in the vastity of the exe universe, so far infact, he couldn't even talk to him in his mind. Saying Faker was this close to destroying his entire pocket dimension is an understatement.

He wanted him back. He needed him back. Scorched was the only being that made him feel strange and weird and warm inside and he didnt had time to decipher what it was, or to find a way to use this to his advantage, it was driving him crazy. He was able to feel new emotions and now the source of those emotions was gone, he felt a step closer to being capable like his creator just to jump back 10 steps.

So from here an out, he would ocassionally try and find Scorched again, and the times he managed to he would try and convince him to come back to his dimension. Scorched just kinda turns him down everytime, even when he gets all flustered again. He even tries to bring him back by offering him his own energy (And Scorched is kinda curious about that, but is it worth it? ehhh)

And if we got into insane territory, Scorched's behaviour kinda turns Faker on, but u didnt hear me say that

Hi! I'm usually not one to send asks all that often, but what the heck. I'm kinda curious about your thoughts on something too since I've seen a lot of differing opinions.

Steven. Obviously Miki's accident and Missingno annihilated his sanity, but I feel like Mike's ghost also haunts him. Not in a malicious way, but just by existing. He just really wants to understand why Steven had to do that to him but whenever he attempts to reach out Steven flips due to guilt. I've seen someone's headcanon where Steven is this cold-hearted bastard who never cared about Mike, even as kids, and idk. It just doesn't sit right with me. Nothing wrong with it I'm just wondering how many other people share that sentiment vs Steven feeling immense guilt at being so blinded by rage that he'd murder his own brother and basically sell his soul.

ANYWAYS i can definitely do that for you and ALSO do not apologize i ramble so much as well its fine. this'll be so long i apologize so im putting most of it under a read more !

i think steven just sort of like... blocks it off and tries to forget everything about that ever happened, but obviously, you cant forget that stuff that easily. it haunts him but he tries to push it as far back to his head as he can and he tries to forget SOOO hard... he's in intense denial. i like the art of him immediately regretting it but i think he'd just stare at mikes corpse for a few minutes and then just be like. scarred by the imagery, and it'd make him breathe heavily and make his eyes widen in regret and he'd just keep staring for a few minutes. but he'd just run away afterward and it just burns into his mind sometimes, making him remember and regret it.

as someone with mental illness of Horribly Bad amounts, when someone you trust like that betrays you or you believe them to betray you ( which, its the ladder for steven and mike, mike obviously didn't intend to kill miki whether or not you believe he initiated the trade with slightly malicious/selfish intent or not ) it does bad damage to your psyche. especially when the murder of someone you care for is involved, which makes the thinking in steven's brain go "oh mike murdered miki. intentionally or not he's the reason she's dead." and then that makes him very upset towards mike mixed with someone he sorta looked up to betray him like that. he just regressed hard and went thru a depressive spiral for a whole year, having the thing he most loved taken away from him so suddenly almost entirely without his control, and then he got so tired of bottling it up he snapped ( lol ) and killed mike.

suicidal thoughts cw for this paragraph: and also during the 1 year without miki, steven obviously went through a major depressive episode and a sort of downwards spiral that just got worse and worse, and i don't think he wanted to get better. this is heavy but i sort of think he just hoped neglecting his self-care would eventually kill him and reunite him with his miki again, which is all he wanted. he didn't eat much if at all and he just sat in front of miki's grave, sometimes for days. he made a bed out of his misery, because it felt comfortable in a morbid way. if he died, he'd reunite with her, because at that point he didn't know anything could bring her back and all he wanted was her. it felt better than just... getting over it, or trying to. people convinced him to take better care of himself, but he still barely did anything past his necessities. this didn't help his mental state at all, as you can probably tell, which also fueled his hatred towards mike after the incident more and more. he made himself suffer this much due to an accident he caused, and he used that as further reasoning to dislike him, even though that was all self-inflicted.

i also like to think they didn't hate each other genuinely before this - mike never genuinely hated steven, but steven after the incident probably had Many complex feelings towards mike, mostly negative. but before the incident, they definitely had arguments and spats, and sometimes one would say something that would genuinely hurt the other ( usually steven did this to mike more than viceversa imo but both happened ) which both of them also probably bottled up and didnt talk about a lot ( although mike'd definitely apologize if he ever went too far - steven, i feel like would be too guilty and nervous to apologize ) which also sort of exploded in steven's face after miki died in front of him. those 3 things mixing together did not make a good combo for him.

the interp of missingno needing souls or steven at least thinking it does is fun but i like to think it never did and steven was just going through a horrendous downward spiral, and he went back home bc... where else would he go, he'd still have to pack the rest of his stuff to leave if he intended to, and seeing mike so vulnerable flipped a switch in steven's mind and made him just go [ steven voice ] "You know what would be funny?" ( worst way to describe that but u get it ). this can also arguably be missingnos influence or missingno possessing steven, which i feel is more plausible then it needing a sacrifice. but i think it just probably inserts or pushes forward steven's intrusive and aggressive thoughts, which i like to believe he always had especially after the incident, but never this bad. and then he just did it bc the thoughts wouldn't leave him alone and his mind convinced himself into it. even though he already had miki and didn't need to do that, it felt... fitting, to him. it was satisfying for a moment, especially because i like the interpretation that his mind warped mikes dying expression into him looking like he's laughing at steven ( explaining his hyplull sprites when hes being strangled being so weird ), until his mind realized the damage he just did, seeing mikes glazed over expression that was very much not smiling or laughing, and he went "oh. shit" in his head probably. his mind couldn't even comprehend what he just did. it'd take a lot of processing, and he didn't even want to process any of that, so after staring for a bit he just walked away from the scene and escaped to never be seen again.

i also like the interpretation that steven thought mike didn't actually care that much about miki dying or even did the trading thing on purpose - he clearly didn't kill her on purpose, but steven was so blinded by his own muddled emotions and rage and he needed an outlet, someone to blame, so he couldn't see it any other way and CONVINCED himself that mike did that on purpose. also because admittedly in canon mike saying that he needed a charizard implies he already had a charmeleon but thats muddy territory and probably just slightly a plot hole. but if that was the case i bet steven was like "... just evolve the charmeleon?" "but that'd take too looooong!" or something like that. mike is impatient as hell fr fr mans got adhd

if you want a good take on this and havent already, read faulty on ao3 . i hate ao3 for various reasons and only go there when im Parched for content. but goddamn that fic has the best characterization of the two imo, especially of this dynamic of them specifically along with their other relationships ( namely daisy and reds relationship to steven and mike too ) - steven even sometimes goes through like being slightly better around mike and then it all drops when he realizes she died for nothing, and mike didnt even finish the dex. fucking phenomenal fic tbh i love this characterization of them sm. a lot of this summarizes how i think they'd both act after the incident

as for the haunting... yeaaa. i think steven's just way too scarred and confused and scared to even allow mike to properly reach out, if steven even realizes it. i like to think he's paranoid and overthinks so he probably goes "oh god what if its mike" and then woopsy daisy! It is mike. and he just tries to pretend its nothing so bad and to ignore and avoid him because he's scared and confused and it makes him think far too long about his emotions on the situation that he was intentionally bottling up and pushing to the back of his head.

he also probably would think mike would try to revenge kill him because that's just how he thinks he himself would react if mike did that to him. Which makes him regret things further. he sleeps less due to this, usually on the defensive even though mike has no intent to harm him. i don't think mike ever had any room in his heart to ever hate steven. he's just confused or slightly upset at worst at anything steven's said or done to him... mike probably doesn't even really blame him, but he does just hope he's ok and prob lets out a sigh of relief when he finds steven, who is still a mess going through many things, and also murderous now, but he's still alive! which is a win in mikes book i guess!

he probably just tries to pretend mike isn't actually there or actively get rid of him, or he wouldn't even notice mike is haunting him in the first place, depending on how obvious the signs of the haunting are. his house is already sort of run down and haunted as fuck anyways, but in the back of his head he knows somethings off.

i also ... like the interp that steven took all of mikes team bc nobody was there to care for them anymore. so maybe when steven notices he sends out mikes blastoise or some of his other party members and hopes to god mike leaves him alone to go bother his own pokemon who he hasn't seen for years. after all, he basically never let mikes mons out of their ball, and even considered donating them all to professor oak or something ( probably just.. leaving the pokeballs out infront of the lab one day ) but that felt wrong, so he always kept them on hand. sometimes feeding them and not much else. mike probably had a ghost type ( gengar ) who can conveniently probably see him, and mike definitely would try to communicate to steven further through said ghost type. and he'd just be like. "gdi why did i send out the ghost type" in his mind.

miki can definitely see mikes ghost. mike is also like "OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU. WAIT YOUR ALIVE????" in his head, but he quickly gets used to it. he has no idea what the hell a missingno is or how/why she's alive but he just stops questioning it. they sometimes share a glance and nod. mike will sometimes avert his gaze from her due to guilt though. miki doesn't seem to care or hold resent, probably because imo 'M ( however you want to spell Missingno Miki ) isn't actually miki. it's missingno sort of possessing, haunting, or keeping miki's dead corpse alive, but her soul is no longer there anymore. at least most of it Isn't there. due to that she's a lot more emotionless. even if miki's soul was in there though, she would not hold genuine resent. if miki's soul was in there she'd probably be scared of steven ( specifically yk S!3V3N ) tbh

i definitely think steven has hallucinations sometimes, usually of miki or mikes corpses, usually much more horrifying looking than they actually were, so this doesn't help!

steven overall is just on the fence and regrets it all but doesn't even wanna think abt or interact w mike but if he somehow became more okay with it, he might start leaving mike notes or something. or talking to himself, assuming mike might overhear. small steps like that. and maybe if mike is able to sometimes steven just passes out on the couch or smth and mike covers him in a blanket while hes asleep and stevens just like. "That was not there when I fell asleep." in his head. stuff like that.

also mike might switch the tv channels or just Project an image onto it somehow. and steven just. squints at it. i think it'd be nice if they eventually got used to eachothers presence again and just silently hung around eachother. mike really wants to look after steven after seeing the state he's in and how much he didn't really help steven effectively when mike was alive. for an example probably, like, nudging the bathroom door open and turning on the bathwater and trying to make steven take a mfing bath and practice self care for once and steven just begrudgingly sighs and goes to do it since he might as well. and mike just walks away and is very smug about it. he Will make his little brother practice self care again and he's made that his personal goal. steven walking into the kitchen and seeing various pots and pans floating around along with a mess on the floor ( mikes getting used to his levitation powers still </3 ) and he just squints his eyes and leaves and comes back and theres a meal on the counter

steven making pancakes and he just holds out a plate for mike and he just takes it. and steven just sees the plate floating and goes "yea thats about what i expected" or smth. its cute, Although i cant see that happening very easily unfortunately </3 steven is very broken and very much Not wanting to think abt mike. so itd take very long for him to warm back up or even be ok with him possibly existing arnd him. but this'd prob happen eventually if mike is persistent, and by god, is mike persistent. its what got him into this mess in the first place.

howdy i had a dream about vampires and mumscarian so behold the ramblings of my drowsy brain. i've also gotten distracted like seven times trying to write this lmao boatem as vampire hunters but scar gets turned (because of course he does) and the group is torn between team 'well-he's-a-vampire-now-we-gotta-kill-him' (impulse and pearl) and team 'how-about-we-don't-do-that?' (mumbo and grian) mumbo's got a spine like a wet noodle though so he flip flops between both groups. grian puts up a front of wanting to kill scar but every time the two come face to face he seems to always miss when it counts the most.

it doesn't help that scar's fully embraced the aesthetic and is like 20% hotter with the fangs along.

the two do a lot of flirt-fighting, grian insistent that he can take on scar by himself only to come back battered and even more determined to "handle" scar on his own.

everything boils over when grian's has scar pinned to the floor, sliver chains on his wrists to keep the vampire down, stake poised over his heart, and he just can't kill him. scar does his best to convince grian that he doesn't need to do this, that he can just let scar get away yet again, and grian quietly confesses that he doesn't want to let scar go.

he misses when they were on the same side, and his heart's split in two.

dropping the smug facade, scar bares his heart in return, that he hasn't been attacking humans, he hasn't hurt a living soul, that just because he was turned he wasn't suddenly a completely new person.

grian caves and lets scar go, but not before making a small side comment about enjoying their chasing game, but that it has to end sooner rather than later.

the two find each other yet again, but it's different, grian's not geared up for one, his only defense a silver cross at his neck, he's slower, he's not putting up a real fight. and he's grinning the whole time.

scar gets grian pinned up to a wall, eyeing up the chain with an annoyed grumble. a contingency plan, grian explains, flushed and breathing heavy.

grian makes scar promise that if he's turned, he'll still be good. it's that blurry line between monsters and humanity, and he promises.

grian yanks off the chain in one clean snap, when they're interrupted by mumbo, silver knife out and ready. he's already lost scar, he wasn't going to lose grian too. mumbo tells scar to stop controlling grian, because surely that was the only reason grian hadn't killed scar yet.

but grian holds up the chain in clear view, and lets it fall. with an open hand he asks mumbo to come with them, that they can all be together again, no more fighting, to run away and live the rest of eternity happily.

grian can feel scar getting impatient, the vampire's breath hot against his neck, fangs lightly pressed to his skin, and he pleads with mumbo to come with him.

mumbo hesitates, and in the distance, pearl could be heard shouting, her voice drawing near. he turns back, and looks down at his knife.

scar didn't want to fight him, and neither did grian. but pearl did.

he steps close, picking up the chain, and for a moment he really considered the offer. but a pair of footsteps grew close, and mumbo pocketed the chain, rushing back down the alley. "i'll cover for you." grian opens his mouth to beg again, but scar's bloodlust had reached its peak, and he sinks his fangs into grian's neck. he lets out a shrill scream, and the last thing grian sees is mumbo warding off two shadowy figures, being carried away in scar's arms. grian wakes up with a vial of blood pressed against his lips, and drinks greedily, curled up into scar's side. "we'll get him," scar reassures him. "we'll bring him home." tl;dr two vampires and their human boyfriend try not to die hope u enjoy like halfway thru this ask basically turned into a fic in it of itself - ☾ anon (im new here :D )

OKAY heres a stream of consciousness that may or may not eventually become a full length fic BUT ive got the seed of a plot going so here it is:

soulmate au but not one where u have some sort of signifying mark or whatever

but u can ask the spirits for guidance and theyll show u ur soulmate

and most places have mostly lost the tradition or the legend or whatever but the water tribes keep the tradition alive

around when someone comes of a certain age theyll be put into an induced spirit sleep and some of the spiritual leaders will ask the spirits to guide them to their soulmate

and sokka being sokka he doesnt quite believe in or care for spirit mumbo jumbo or soulmates so hes like nah i dont think ill ever go thru w that yall do yall

BUT ALSO sokka being sokka he just falls into spirit bullshit REGARDLESS so as a fresh young thing he has what he thinks is a Weird Dream where some animal spirit comes around and tries to get him to follow

and thinking its a dream he does

and the spirit leads him to a little boy barely older than him with long dark hair and bright yellow eyes and he doesnt know yet? that thats a fire nation thing? bc as a wee lad he hasnt seen anybody from the fire nation before

and baby zuko is super confused bc he also has never seen someone from the water tribes before and also doesnt know much about spirit journeys or soulmates but they start a tentative friendship in their dreams

and sokka wakes up and tells everyone wow i had a weird dream last night

and he starts to explain and folks r like wow! that sounds like a soulmate journey!

and hes like but the spirit showed me a boy?

and theyre like yeah that happens tell us about him!

and he starts to describe the boy and all the excited adults suddenly go pale when he tells them about the boys bright gold eyes

rambling about how pretty they are like a big bright sunny day

but he notices them all go quiet so he clams up about it and stops telling them even tho he has similar dreams in the future and keeps having spirit dream chats w zuko

MEANWHILE bc whats a zukka au without kataang

katara gets super jealous that sokka got to go on a soulmate quest and demands to get to go on one too

and everyone says no youre way too young usually we wait until youre a teenager or something

but shes really insistent and stubborn and whiny bc tiny child

so the adults decide okay whats the harm she really wants to meet her soulmate well just have to be careful with the medicines we use

SO she goes into her spirit sleep and she follows her animal guide and it leads her out over the frozen ocean and its beautiful and magical but suddenly shes trapped in a cold dark place and it feels like shes being frozen and crushed and she starts to panic

and outside the dream all the adults start to panic bc shes thrashing around and her lips are turning blue and they wake her up as quickly as possible

and absolutely NO ONE knows what the fuck THAT means!

ANYWAY time goes by and sokkas like 12 and he finds himself drifting in his dream to the familiar dream space where he usually talks to zuko and finds him there clearly Super Injured and he tries to reach out and help even tho he knows theres nothing he can do, that they cant touch in this spirit space (this isnt the first time zukos had injuries when they meet up, its just the worst)

and zuko lashes out, screaming at him to go away

and sokka is never able to find him in the dream space again, like zukos spirit is closed off

so when they run into each other (lol) the first time in person, they dont recognize each other

sokkas never seen zuko w the scar and sokkas got the full face paint on

and then zuko kicks sokka into the snow and his face paint comes off and boomerang knocks zukos helmet off and suddenly they connect the dots like "YOU!!"

and then like normal story happens except sokka and zuko already know each other so sokka knows Why zuko does the things he does and zuko already has a push in the right direction, since he had contact w a Not Fire Nation person who helped him get some context early and zuko probably joins the gaang early in this one

-this was such a weird ending to an entire show. why did season 3 only have 13 episodes?? why did it feel so weirdly paced?? WHY WAS THE ENDING LIKE THAT. I think. I am going to pretend I did not see that. fucked up, dudes. I'm like...hm. I shouldn't have watched that because now I'm mad. valerie sweetie im SO sorry you shouldve been more present. it felt like..if they knew this season was going to be short, and the last season, they should've spent more time wrapping up EVERYONE'S plot lines for the entire season. imagine how cool it wouldve been if every single ep of season 3 was working towards something, a big, nice wrap up at the end, with nothing feeling TOO rushed because they'd been heading towards the End for the whole season....

I will probably end up writing a follow up full series thoughts post. In a couple of days so I can sit with my thoughts. BUT. overall, I really liked the show! (ignoring the finale and some of the moments that aged pretty poorly...) it was charming and a fun concept and very fun to watch in general :) and I am pretending the finale didnt happen <3 and I’m gonna dive RIGHT into the dp tags and mix fanart and posts in my queue, very excited to run and look at that 🏃🏻 (and, of course, make more fanart myself hehe >:3)

Witnessing violence has a huge impact of kids, often more so even than being physically abused themselves. I could see Dean and Cas starting to notice that with Sammy. He could draw scenes of Dean hurt or draw revenge against John. When he’s playing, he could act out things that are similar to real events, or play with themes of being able to save people, because he could never protect and save Dean.

When he’s playing with kids who come through the inn, he could try to talk them out of going to their parents if someone gets hurt, especially if their parents have had some ale.

He could also project his own feelings onto their animals. Luna doesn’t like sleeping alone. His cat hates it when people yell. When he’s talking with Pastor Murphy about the books he reads, it’s always through the lens of the world being unsafe, and people being violent just because they can be.

But he could also play out the positives too. He could be playing with another kid and the kid is pretending to be wounded in battle and Dean sees Sam kneeling down and saying “don’t worry, it’s going to be okay, it’s not too deep, you’ll be okay” (like how Dean remembered helping Sam in KYIS when he was getting glass out of Cas’s foot) and Dean can see that Sam only knows to play that way because that’s how Dean has talked to Sam.

oh god why was i cursed with emotions. yes yes i so agree with u!! how much witnessing violence fucks kids up is a really big theme in my stories, bc i think it lowkey is a really big theme in canon dean and sam’s traumas. like the show makes it pretty clear that dean has always been the Protector and has bore the brunt of the abuse in their household, but. that fucked sam up so much. that survivor’s guilt baby!!! its fucking powerful!!!

so YES thats def gonna come up in Wander Home. oooomg i love all of these ideas!!! dean and cas watching sam play “pretend” of really really fucked up things, reenacting things that he’s witnessed, but like changing the endings so that he saves the person being fucked up or whatever (its always dean, really, even if in sam’s games it’s some random unknown figure). and both of them r like :/ bc they know whats going on but like have no idea what to do about it.

maybe sam starts doing that thing where the playing pretend starts to merge with compulsive lying- like, cas will see a horrible scar on dean’s body and be like oh my god! what the fuck happened! and sam jumps in before dean can say anything and ramble out some fantastical horrific story in which sam saved dean from some even worse fate than what happened in reality, and dean escaped with only that scar. (like a huge rabid dog broke into the inn! john threw dean towards it bc he didnt care about dean and wanted the dog to eat dean bc then it wouldnt be hungry for the rest of us! it almost got him but i stabbed it with my knife before it could eat him!! so now he only has that scar!!)

ugh maybe this happens with a scar on sam’s own body that he got in a really tragically mundane way, like john just hit him with something and it left a mark. but he again makes up some story about how he got it defending dean against the Bad Guys how he got hurt but managed to fend everyone off, and his scar is now a testament to his bravery. cause that’s what he WISHES happened. and he cant really process what actually did happen, and the guilt he feels about all of it. and like....he Knows he’s lying, ya know, but also he doesn’t, bc that’s what compulsive lying is, he’s not like “oh i’m gonna tell a lie now” but he’s also not like “hm yep that is 100% what actually happened.” he’s just like. not evaluating his own thought process at all.

and yes!! he def thinks all adults are scary and bad, so assumes that parents will hurt their own kids like his own hurt him. he def freaks the kids out sometimes- like generally he’s actually a nice kid who’s fun to be around, so kids play with him easily, but he’ll say horrifying offhand shit or take their pretend games in alarming directions or yeah like freak out when the kids want to go get their parents. so the can freak unabused kids out.

yess projecting emotions on to animals. ;~; goood luna doesnt like sleeping alone! my cat doesnt like it when you yell! hes so transparent but he doesnt realize it at all, and he gets really pissy on “the animal’s” defense. he’s like excuse me the chickens do NOT appreciate you being loud rn. meanwhile the chickens r not noticing at all.

I powered thru and still managed to understand most of the arc despite reading half this issue out of order (essentially) bc the website I read it on split the pages up and I couldn't tell they were supposed to be doubled (and also I'm dumb so I didn't figure it out)

oh man that last panel of trailbreaker holding up roller’s juice box...iirc the first time I read this I thought that was roller (cause of the juice box I guess? idk I'm an idiot) so I was like oh ok he must've come back or something. very much related but I didn't really think about tarn being a particular pre-established character and totally didn't read the whole ‘roller is tarn’ thing that was going on 

which in my defense ruth also didn't pick up on any of that while reading this and eventually like 2 issues before the reveal I had to prompt her like ‘you should maybe be wondering WHO tarn is’ vhbahjksdfbaksjdf

so! issue 37! this issue is a solid favorite of mine, id say definitely top 5 or even 3. I'm super biased bc I fucking LOVE time travel, it’s seriously one of my favorite tropes ever, and this issue hits all the time travel beats I love. characters traveling to the past and interacting with people they know! conversations that have multiple meanings bc of TIME TRAVEL! trying to save someone who meets a terrible fate in your future! fun time travel action! the time traveling characters being generally terrible at hiding the fact that they're time travelers! ITS SO GOOD. 

and I love the clever way everything is tied together here - where we get a nice continuation of shadowplay, with this taking place shortly after that with a lot of the same cast, and time travel classics like the good ole ‘if we hadn't travelled back in time and done what we did, the future we came from wouldn't have existed at all,’ in the flavor of ‘rodimus saving his baby self’ and ‘rodimus NOT saving trailbreaker’ and ‘everyone forgot about roller :(’

(i think ive mentioned a few times tht lou likes singing but that is admittedly an understatement. he loves singing. he hears a song he knos the lyrics to and he feels incredibly compelled to sing tho his lack of confidence stops him in public spaces. u may hear a bit of humming when no ones paying attention to him tho)

(going off that there are certain kindsa songs he likes singing more than others, think its been mentioned that he likes higher energy music generally speaking so naturally thats the kinda music he likes to sing to but he REALLY likes songs he can just belt to it feels so satisfying to him. he is surprisingly good at adele songs)

(he cannot sing really rough throaty songs to save his life tho like just thinkin abt it makes his throat hurt. he likes a fair bit of metal and screamo n stuff but his voice is just too smooth to sing it. smooth but lightly textured. like vanilla icecream w the lil vanilla beans n stuff still in it. hes also not very good at whistling)

(hes mostly a tenor but he does have a pretty decent range and his falsetto is p decent tho it does hurt his throat)

(speaking of his more notable scars are a burn scar on his right forearm from when he was really young, no one remembers exactly how he got it but it had something to do with a kitchen accident, and sum cut scars on his left shoulder from shortly after he’d moved out of his mom’s house. he also has various minor scars on his hands and wrists from handling/playing with cats and getting into the occasional knife fight back in the city as well as a very small scar on his upper lip from a time a dog bit his face when he was young)

(u might not guess it but he is incredibly clumsy and does not have the best spatial awareness when it comes to like. objects. he does fine not crashing into people but hes probably bumped into a lamp post at least once)

(idk if its ever come across but he also does lots of hand gestures when hes talking. snapping his fingers or shaking his hands when hes tryna think trying to illustrate what hes talking about with vague motions. he does a lot of shit w his hands in general, tapping fingers on surfaces drumming his hands on his legs, doin peace signs n finger guns and playing with his fingers/clothes mindlessly)

(when hes real angry or sad his speech tends to actually be much more concise, he’ll speak slower and take time to really consider his words. when he’s angry both his expression and the words he chooses have the potential to cut like a hot knife thru soft butter, and when he’s sad hes more considering his words to try and keep from bringing the person hes talking to down)

(ive drawn him with a sketchbook a couple times but he probably has a journal with some writing in it too, nothing serious just thoughts he has sometimes phrased with flowery words but its not like. super amazing poetry or anything. hes no elliott)

(speaking of sketchbooks he absolutely draws his friends from time to time. hes incredibly embarrassed by it and hed never show anyone but he does it. a lot of his doodles are accompanied by lil thoughts and comments he has while makin em)

(back when he worked for joja i like to think he was like a phone operator for like. the joja help line or smth which is an oxymoron and he probably spent most of his work day getting yelled at by ppl over the phone. he does not like talking on the phone. much prefers texting)

(idk how clear ive made it on the blog but he absolutely hates morris. morris is probably the only person in town who hes like physically threatened. morris has thusly elected to avoid fucking with him as much as physically possible)

(i think its been mentioned he carries some kinda pocket knife on him at all times but he also likes to carry one a those novelty combs that looks n acts like a switchblade but its not. mostly just to fuck w ppl. pull out what looks like a switchblade then open it and hah uve been fooled it was a comb all along)

(speaking of combs bcus his hair is thick and wavy as mentioned before hes gotta take real good care of it or it gets. Unmanageable. when he was a teenager he didnt take care of it for a while n it got so long and tangled it broke like 2 combs it was awful)

(that in mind he is prone to getting wicked bed head. catch him when he first wakes up and its like a rat king was planted on his head)

(also did i mention he has several knives? pocket knives switchblades hes probably got a decorative dagger in a box somewhere, and ofc his monster fighting sword. he probably has a pair of brass knuckles somewhere too)

(its defintiely been hinted at more than a few times but lou is a huge foodie. he is always hungry and loves food but he cant stand mint or bitter tastes sometimes he has a hard time w sour stuff too. he likes spicy and savory/umami/w/e foods best, and while he does have a decent sweet tooth he can make himself sick off sugary stuff pretty easy especially w really dense sweets like fudgy brownies n shit)

(the reason hes not so good w mint and bitter things is cus his senses r very keen and bitter and mint are very unpleasant to his mouth and nose. theyre intense and stick around much longer than theyre welcome and it just feels bad ykno. this in mind he could not explain to u why he likes spicy stuff as much as he does)

(hes also really sensitive to like actual temperatures, especially heat. if it gets too hot and humid it can make him real nauseous n give him a migraine, hes better in the cold but even then it makes him really sneezy n sniffly. this is moderately ironic considering the previous point)

(jhjh im gonan stop here bcus this is getting super long but this is absolutely not all the stuff ive thought of. its mostly just the more lighthearted n mundane stuff that i could remember off the top of my head lmao)
