Behold,,,,. Every hermit design I’ve created over the past year and a bit: with heights and chibi versions of wings included>:D

A parrot avian in some universes, a shapeshifted watcher in others, it’s a 50/50 which one I decided to go with

Avians in my mind take on the wing patterns of a bird they connect with, which usually happens at around 18-23. Instead of facial hair they grow feathers around their cheeks and in their hair.

His earring is a present from mumbo ^^

The gold detailing on his wings have the watcher symbol and suns on it, and his shoes have suns too! (why suns you may ask? “Grian” is the Irish word for sun, and according to my myth/history nerd friend there was an Irish sun goddess named Grian)

He was originally supposed to have glasses however I am terrible at remembering glasses even though I wear them so they just kinda vanished

If I go the avian route, her wings are small and usually kept under her jacket.

The moon detailing changes with the moon phase! Her hair also gets more floaty depending on how full the moon is

He’s got heels and he’s absolutely slaying. That’s really it I can’t pick my favourite detail it’s all fantastic. Look at it

BUTTERFLY LOREEEEE

Well, I mentioned in another post that the main courting ritual for butterfly hybrids is gifting sweets. So if you didn't see that post, I think it's very cute to keep in mind that that is the whole reason Lizzie learned to be a really good baker! She wanted to make sweets for Joel so she could court him properly!

Joel, being a bad boy, tried to play it cool and act like he wasn't all that interested in sweets, but his antenna spark with glamor when he gets excited and that was a dead give away. She had to stop surprising him with cookies or sweets she made because if he wasn't expecting it the patterns in his wings would light up with glamor from happy surprise and we all know Joel isn't supposed to channel glamor in his wings anymore 😔

Joel is shorter than Lizzie and grumpy about it! Lizzie is also way stronger than him, which results in some very funny events such as her carrying him over the threshold of their bakery when they first got the building, because without being able to channel glamor Joel can't lift Lizzie anymore. He was huffy about the whole thing but he let Lizzie do it because it made her happy. Grian still has the photos, Joel wishes he could burn or delete them but there's no way Grian is letting that happen. 😆

Joel goes for check-ups at the labs with Doc several times a year to make sure the tear in his wing isn't getting any worse. They've tried a few temporary solutions to ease his pain, including different potions and they've even discussed the idea of attempting an augmentation, but Joel refused. It would be too heavy, and glamor can't pass through inorganic material, so while maybe it might ease some of his pain, it would shut down any hope of a treatment coming along in the future that might be able to repair his wing so he can fly again. Not like he's holding out hope, he's pretty much accepted at this point he'll never fly again, but that doesn't make it any easier. We've seen him work through all of this, though, and now he at least will go for flights with his avian friends or Mumbo...y'know, if he can convince Mumbo to fly. 😆

Rating each hermit’s likelihood of being a furry

scar keeps getting furry allegations so i thought i’d make this post

Joe Hills - 7/10 he doesn’t really consider himself part of the community but he has a sparkledog sona and dresses up in his homemade diy fursuit sometimes. he respects furries deeply and does not tolerate hate towards them

Xisuma - 8/10 totally a furry he changes his skin all the time to dress up as the latest minecraft mob. he already has a “cringe” oc (evil x). he doesn’t even know what a furry is i think but he probably owns a fursuit anyway because he thinks its neat

Hypno - 3/10 he’d say no but give him cat ears to match with max and he’ll be wearing them every stream from now on

Keralis - 2/10 pretends to not know what a furry is but he does. he does.

Mumbo - 1/10 logically he would know of furries due to his young age and activeness online but i don’t believe he does, he has never heard of a furry and never will

Cleo - 6/10 with enough encouragement she’d wear a fursuit. maybe if joe made one for them. she’s got a vtuber avatar so this is just next in the pipeline i think

Jevin - 3/10 he isn’t one but he does have a non-human character which technically qualifies him as one. instead of a fursuit i think he’d have to coat himself in jelly or something

Stress - 2/10 i think she’d find the idea of furries cute and funny but wouldn’t be one

Zedaph - 9/10 you’d see him rocking up to furcon. his fursona would be a weirdass sheep worm hybrid

Grian - 4/10 i can see it. despite fan interpretation, i don’t think he’d be a parrot though i think he’d be a cat tbh

One breath later…

It only takes one scratch of a spectral arrow to light him up like one of Between's randomly spawned mobs. The invisibility potion makes it worse, actually. Without skin to block the light, he's blinding like a ghost as BigB drags him out from beneath the table by his leg. Mumbo balls himself around the llama respawn blanket, squeezing as hard as he can, but Carrie, Vee, and Slippers hold him down and wrestle it away. Scarlet fabric slips through his fingers. Mumbo flops back against the floor. The restaurant's lit by purple endflame. It's brighter than you'd think, actually, considering how many endermen and endermites live here.

Am I the main light source now?

Vee cannot help him. That's quite all right; wouldn't expect her to. She stands with fists clenched in her sleeves, eyes averted. And BigB cannot help him. He's in a crouch, not looking either. The whole patrol's standing now, peering over the leafy divider wall or else circling around to join their captain. Ripple_Weave and Snakesnake leap right over, thumping on the table. Typical.

… I can take them. I know I can. This isn't over. Agh, can I do this without hurting Vee or her vex?

Carrie ties the patrol banner at her neck like a cape. "You got good trades?" she asks, barely glancing down at him.

"What?"

"You're a wandering trader. What do you sell?"

Mumbo flicks his eyes around the patrol. That's a lot of eyes bearing down at him. A lot of curious faces. "I… I don't particularly want to say in a room filled with anarchy individuals, but I do specialize in something I care deeply about, yes." Is she trying to empty my pockets? Dumping out his things isn't the smartest move before a fight. "Most of my things are with my llamas. I just came to get their blankets back."

Carrie says nothing, just scrutinizing him with pinched-up eyes. What's that look mean? Mumbo tries to hold her gaze, but flickers his attention away and back again. It's, ah… quite difficult to face her head-on. She's got a scowl full of venom with a cherry on top. A poisoned one, probably. Vee leans forward with folded arms, bringing her mouth near her captain's ear.

"They're like ravager saddles. He's bonded to his llamas like I am to Muddy."

Ah, I'd rather you didn't make them sound especially valuable…

Carrie rubs the edge of her captain's banner between thumb and forefinger. "I have no quarrel with you," she starts to say, and probably, "I'm just here for Skizzleman," but the words are lost. The butterfly hybrid host hurries over, loud and flapping. They can't just do these things. They can't attack each other; they have to leave. Carrie says they will, but lunges forward to grab Mumbo's water glass and silverware. She clangs them together… mostly by bashing the cup into the tiny shovel rather than the other way around. Her big wings swish outward, big back straightening, big shoulders squaring up.

"Everybody, may I have your attention? Listen up, because I'm only going to say this once. My name is Carrie, short for Carrion, and I'm captain of my patrol."

I can take them.

Mumbo flips over, mostly rolling, and jumps back to his feet as fast as he can. Halfway up, he whips the modded scythe from his soul slot and rears it back behind his head. You thought his body glowed bright? Try a netherite weapon with 17 enchantments on it. Shouts explode across the room, not only from the patrol. Snakesnake and Ripple_Weave look at him in utter shock, but before they can react, Mumbo swings the scythe straight through their chests. Ribbons of fire tear behind it. Beyond the Sharpness V and Fire Aspect II - not to mention Sweeping Edge III - this thing's got the Ambush and Illager's Bane enchantments slapped on top. Yeah, slime blocks are very important to Doc's friends, including the vulture hybrid he did that job for. The pillagers explode, scattering pixels, arrows, and emeralds all across the tablecloth. Thank Looting and Prospector III for that. His communicator vibrates in his pocket. He doesn't need to glance at it to know what it says.

Ripple_Weave had their soul reaped by MumboJumbo using [Raidbuster Prototype] Snakesnake had their soul reaped by MumboJumbo using [Raidbuster Prototype]

Their crossbows crash across the table and tumble to the floor. A red-gold sheen whips across his figure. He tightens his grip on the scythe's handle. Dynamo bonus. Next hit hits harder. Although I may have lost my Ambush…

Swirls of cyan energy spiral around him before zipping across the restaurant, straight out the door. If he did the little ritual right when they started this journey as trader and escort, they're off in search of Impulse's thermos now. His comm buzzes again, which should mean-

Illagers shout and leap, drawing axes and crossbows- Mumbo whips around, taking out Starjump and Roadrunner even with Ambush ineffective now. Both vindicators dissipate, souls whirling off like the rest. Cosmos and Sundance fire bolts at him. They slam his shoulder. Mumbo staggers sidewa-

A ball of spikes crashes against his side, lurching upwards, and flings him straight across the leafy barrier wall. He hits the patrol's table with a thump. The scythe flies from his hand and clatters out of reach. Zigzags of pain shoot across his head, and Mumbo coughs so hard, it burns.

"Ow…"

"That's gonna be a lot of incident reports," BigB says from a chunk away.

When Mumbo forces up his head, vision blurred, Vee's standing with both arms lifted, but her vex trio seem to be awaiting a command. Carrie's switched from her standard blue vex form to full seravex mode. Four long, pink wings smack the air behind her, stretching towards the ceiling as though cradling the sun. These ones are feathered and full of muscle. She's got a thick stick slung over her shoulder, and the stick's attached to a chain. A massive spied ball dangles like a braid. And it glitters purple.

"Seravex can enchant their maces?" he asks, weakly. How… how much damage did that do? His communicator's in his pocket, but that felt like a lot.

… Like, a lot a lot. Is there some kind of Trader's Bane enchantment that parallels the Illager's Bane he's got on his own weapon? Or maybe I just took 60% extra damage from Ambush III. Fair's fair. Mumbo slides a hand across his chest, feeling out the gash in his side. Two of those spikes punctured so deep, he can fit his knuckle in the tears of vest, shirt, and skin. Blue energy oozes out, coating his bright white fingers in a cyan glow.

"I was talking," Carrie growls back. "And this thing's got the Critical Hit, Committed, and Void Strike enchantments, so I suggest you park your tush."

Her headcannons:

The hermits won't hurt each other on purpose, so they won't rape each other.

A few of them are mates with each other but they are an open server and don't mind sharing their mates with each other.

Like 2 or 3 of them have trauma with stuff to do with their mating cycles and going into heat.

Almost all of them have something wrong with them or something from the past they recovered from, like cutting or self-hatred.

Ex is Xisuma's brother, but Hels is a clone of Wels.

If you give her a request keep these in mind.

tw mild body horror (eyes on wings) and blood

I know I said bone-wings for Creature Mumbo (big black wings that are just the skeletal structure of wings), but please do consider: Purple Emperor butterfly wings.

The name is perfect (purple emperor being, of course, an allusion to the Void), and the wings are dark purple and black and have two "eyes". I also like the idea that the Void doesn't know a lot of Overworld things. It doesn't know that there are different types of wings and just slaps butterfly wings on Mumbo's back and calls it a day.

Imagine someone seeing Creature Mumbo for the first time. Standing in a ring of rising smoke, the remains of mobs littered around him.

If normal Mumbo is slim, then Creature Mumbo is emaciated.

He buys suits that are black specifically so you can't see any red stains from redstone. Imagine how terrifying it would be to see his suit jacket vibrantly scarlet with blood. Beads drip down from his hair, trailing down his cheek, giving him this awful illusion of crying blood.

His own eyes are gone, which isn't very obvious since he's never opened his eyes as Creature Mumbo. But if you squint, you can see that his eyelids lack the bulb that most closed eyelids have - there's no eyes behind the lids, nothing to obscure.

Continuing the butterfly hybridity, his hands end in claws that look like tarsi. His legs bend in strange ways. Big wings of deep purple and black so dark it lacks dimension protrude from his back, looking less like they grew there and more like they tore their way from his flesh. It's not very clear, but look closely and you'll see that they're serrated at the ends. Look even closer, and you'll see that unlike regular butterfly wings, these have thin but impossibly strong bones running through them, sort of like a bat's wings. Where the bones end, a small claw slips out from the wings, blending in with the rest of the serrated edge.

There's something else that's ominous about the wings that no one can really put their finger on, until someone finally sees: Two eyes of burning black on the bottom of his wings.

They blink. They don't have pupils, but they still manage to follow you around. They look and they watch. They glare.

Returning Student Summaries!

Marigold (she/her, moonbloom hybrid):

She went on a tour with Skizz, then met Pearl as her new roommate where Pearl met Goldie’s support tea dragon. When Goldie used her magic to add plants where Pearl suggested Goldie should cause chaos-, Goldie then met Stress at nature club where Stress gave Goldie a key to the greenhouse warning her to not give it to Pearl- she would cause chaos. Then Pearl tries to grow poisonous plants once Stress left, but Goldie convinced her not to. Then Goldie met Bdubs.

Lou (she/her, butterfly hyrbrid):

Started off on a tour with Pearl, but when Pearl noticed corruption, panicked and almost lost control, shifting into half-watcher form. Grian came, and Pearl went to rest (meeting Goldie). Grian then started using his watcher magic to try and heal Lou, (unfortunately watcher magic is not used for “good”) but he just knocked Lou out. When Lou woke up on the infirmary bed, she freaked out tried to run away, and insulted Cleo a lot. Eventually she did let Scar put the salve on. Once she was done, she went on a tour with Cleo, apologized for being rude to them, got mad at Cleo again and Cleo dumped their trauma on Lou. Ended with the tour finishing, Cleo is Lou’s roommate.

Milly (she/they, vampire):

She went on a tour with False, and talks about her fire trauma. False then goes to find Mumbo, Milly and Mumbo then they talk about vampire stuff. Once Mumbo leaves, False and Milly go tot the library, where a watcher visits Milly and says to not ask about what she should not know. Afterwards Rose, Milly’s demon appears, and they get to their shared dorm with Gem, and false leaves. Gem meets Rose, and they chat. Gem leaves and Milly goes to explore, after meeting Doc, Milly get’s food and meets Grian and Scar, it ends with Rose saying that Grian is a bit suspicious.

hello it is the local mumbo simp

I've been seeing a hc where Mumbo in s9 is canonically hibernating in a copper cocoon (thanks grian) and will come back as a butterfly or moth! So could you write something where he comes back/wakes up and the reader sees him for the first time and is just a completely flustered mess while Mumbo is confused and a bit worried they don't like his new look? They're already in a relationship and the reader has they/them pronouns?

Copper Coloured Wings

Drabble Contains: Butterfly/Moth Hybrid!Mumbo, Fluff, Self Conscious Mumbo --------------------------------------------

Putting down the last shulker of materials has you relieved. Moving to the new location, the location of yours and Mumbo's megabase, was quite the task.

This year it had been even more of a task, as Mumbo had entered his winter hybernation late. Which meant you had to move all the resources yourself.

"I'm taking a week off once he comes out of that cocoon." You grumble, entering the nether yet again to go back to the vault.

The trip through the nether is long, you run into Impulse on the way back, who is replacing his emerald bridge yet again.

"How's the building going over at the new spot?" He asks, careful not to fall off of the bridge. "Oh you know, haven't even started." Impulse chuckles at your words.

"I imagine it was quite the task moving two sets of resources over there. I'm not looking forward to moving my one set." His smile is warm, comparable to the nether surrounding you. You've missed having him around like last season when he was just next door.

"Yeah, it wasn't fun. My advice is go when it's overcast, the sun out there is hot." Impulse nods. "I'll keep it in mind, anyway, I better get this finished off." He gestures to the bridge which was previously made entirely of emerald blocks. "Between you and me, if I catch the culprit I won't be held responsible for any tnt minecarts found in people's bases."

The two of you laugh and say your goodbyes, you leaving the nether.

The light of the overworld is, like always, just a little too bright after stepping out of the nether. Even under the shade of Scar's tree.

Everything is slightly over-exposed, the grass is bright, the vault is bright, the shiny orange and green blob that's moving is bright, even the door of the vault is bright.

Wait. Orange and green blob?

You blink a few times, eyesight returning to normal. And what you see is.. interesting. You can't really say you're sure how to react.

Mumbo is walking around in the sunlight, black suit quite the contrast to his vibrant wings. They still look a little wet, he mustn't have been out for very long.

His wings, much like his cocoon, are copper coloured. But where his cocoon started that beautiful copper orange and turned the vibrant oxidised green his wings are a number of colours.

For the most part they're orange and green, with some places where the shades are transitional. Some of these are highlighted with white specks. On each wing there is one large black spot with a small red area on the inside. Eyes, the defense mechanism.

Most would likely find them an unsettling sight, after all they are a defense mechanism to keep predators away. You on the other hand are enamoured by their beauty.

Mumbo turns slowly, catching sight of you standing there staring. "Y/n I, my wings, I didn't know." He stumbles over his words, doing his best to hide them from your view.

"What are you on about Mumbo, my love?" You say, walking over now.  "I saw them in the Hermitissippi, they just, I don't know." He frowns, fiddling with the cuffs of his shirt sleeves.

"Show me properly?" You ask, Mumbo looks unsure, but turns around anyway. Slowly he stretches out his wings. At full extension they're even more gorgeous than you saw before.

The colours marry each other perfectly, blending from the rich orange to the vibrant green. The eyes are a perfect contrast to the rest of the colours, the deep back and rich red reminding you of the formal wear he so often dons.

Mumbo is quick to hide his wings from you again, turning back around with a sad look on his face. "I understand if you don't like them or want to see them or me ever again." He mumbles.

"What?" Mumbo looks confused at your question. "What do you mean what?"

"I mean whatever gave you those thoughts?" Mumbo shrugs. "That's what I thought."  You fold your arms over one another, walking until you're so close your arms are against him. You slightly move your hand to poke him in the chest.

"Your wings are beautiful, more beautiful than I ever imagined they would be. I can't wait to see them every day of our lives, I can't wait to see you every day either." You smile, noticing the pink flush that appears on Mumbo's face.

"So you don't hate them?" He asks, tone lighter than before. "No, I don't hate them." Mumbo smiles, pulling you in for a hug. "That's good then." He says with a small laugh, holding you tight with the reassurance that you still want him, even with his wings.

Realistic: The whole Captain America suit is less of a suit and more of a sweater with a lot of designs on it. He found out he just really likes that color palette and also i mean his nickname was Solidarity so it was perfect for a sort of Hero vibe. but no this man is dressed in a collared shirt and sweater bc he’s a total fuckin nerd.

Hilarious: Jimmy’s not a fish hybrid in this world but he might as well be with how many times he just THROWS himself into water. Like wheres jimmy? probably in the nearest pond getting like a million water born diseases. He’s just a lad who likes to swim. Its probably saved him more than anyone would like to admit tho bc it’s hard to kill a guy who’s doing butterfly kicks in a fucking river

Heart Breaking: He did Not expect Mumbo to follow him so quickly into the afterlife. Like, yes, he knew he would but not… Immediately. and not by Grian. He doesn’t think its his fault necessarily, but it does hurt to know that if he hadn’t done anything maybe they both would’ve lived longer. Luckily, and he doesn’t know who did it, but someone buried them side by side. It’s better that way, he thinks, that way neither of them have to be alone in any world.

Unrealistic: I havent stopped thinking about Canary in a Coal Mine, Harbinger of Death Jimmy since it was mentioned. A very sweet wholesome sunshine golden retriever guy who, when he dies, is the sign that EVERYTHING is about to go to shit. And to accentuate that; when he turns red- he doesn’t look Scary. he looks Sad. Sick. Broken. Because he knows when he’s gone, suffering will follow and theres no convincing that could ever stop that.
