The Best Gotham Has To Offer
Contents: Flirting, pining, fluff, gender neutral reader, reader is from this world, reader knows Bruce Wayne is Batman
Words: 650
Bruce cautiously follows the sound of thumping coming from down the hall. He's unsure if Alfred is the one making that noise or if someone was actually dumb enough to break into Wayne Manor first thing in the morning to loot the place.
Drawing closer to the stairs he realizes the sound is coming from the first floor. He proceeds down the stairs and steps into the Grand Hall. The sound seems to be coming from his right, from the bathroom. He quietly approaches the door and knocks.
"Huh?"
The tension leaves his body as he hears your voice, "You alright in there?"
"Oh! Yeah! Sorry for the noise. The sink had a small leak so I'm fixing it."
He turns the knob and walks into the bathroom to see you with a screwdriver in hand twisting a screw back into place on the cold water knob. He leans beside you against the sink cabinet, "You know I can just have Alfred call a plumber for that, right?"
"I know." You pop the little cap with a capital C back into place on the knob, "But I don't wanna just sit here and do nothing after all you've offered to do for me. I want to be useful around here." You respond, turning to face him. He gets a stunned look. You've noticed he's more expressive with the cowl off but you're still not used to it.
"Usefulness isn't necessary."
"It is to me." You say with a serious expression.
He studies your expression for a moment before smiling and standing straight up, "Where is Alfred anyway?" He asks, trying to change the subject.
"He said he was gonna dust the parlor then make breakfast." You drop the screwdriver back into the toolbox and close it, "I was gonna help him with that too once I got done here." You mention while turning the water on to wash your hands.
He lets out a small chuckle, "Aiming to put him out of the job, huh?" He jokes. Something else you're not used to yet.
"Of course not, I just want to help. You're helping me after all, so I want to return the favor."
He smiles again. He steps aside to let you out of the bathroom and follows behind you, "We could go out for breakfast instead." He suggests, "My treat."
"You don't have to do that Bruce," You stop and turn to him and he stops too, "You're already doing enough for me by letting me stay here while we try to figure out how to get me back to my own universe."
"It's fine really. I'd like you to experience everything Gotham has to offer while you're here."
"I think I already experienced that last night with the whole clown abduction thing."
His smile quickly deflates, "Don't let Joker define how you look at this city. It's got a problem, but there's still good people here."
"I know. I'm looking at one of them." You smile at him this time. You could swear there's a hint of a pink to his cheeks. His smile returns.
"Gotham is a little calmer in the daytime. I know a good restaurant that's in the heart of the city. We could explore downtown too."
"I… guess that doesn't sound so bad. I probably should leave the manor every now and then or I'll go stir-crazy."
"I'll let Alfred know to only make breakfast for him and Dick." He says walking past you.
"He isn't driving us there?" You follow along behind him this time.
"I can drive too."
"I know, but-"
"I think he'll be fine letting me out of his sight for a day." He jokes. You smile and hold in a laugh this time.
"You sure about that? Batman might not need supervision but Bruce Wayne might." You tease.
"Maybe a little." He looks back at you with a grin.

Actually the way alien abduction lore has evolved in the modern world is a very good example of how mythopoiesis works.
Why are the aliens similar but different from one abductee to another? Why are sometimes friendly sometimes evil? Why dont people see little furry guys anymore, we used to love little furry guys? The answer is that thats not the point. These are very similar to stories of contact with the divine. They are not "true" or "false" in the way that statements like "water boils at 100° C at sea level" or even "batman's secret identity is bruce wayne" are. They serve to hint to something else. The act of encoding and decoding those stories serves the purpose of hinting at a mix of shared culture and values, at similar experiences with the divine or the sacred, at similar fears and anxieties, etc. They are collective artwork.

Nice Logical Girl
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/sUTvRx3 by stopgivingmeheck Stephanie realized she was being spiteful. Cruel, even. She realized she only carried this grudge against them because of Bruce and Barbara, and she should be the nice, logical, girl she is and not hold anything against Dick, Tim, or Damian. But- She was done being the nice, logical girl she should be. - Stephanie Brown discovers a plot of C List villains attempting to smuggle drugs to one of the crime syndicates in Gotham. The problem is, the Bats have no idea which one. Even Black Mask's drug ring is shoveling out drugs, even though Batman took down his main supplier a month ago. And when kids in Gotham start to go missing, the Bats have even more to worry about. Especially because the profiles for the abductors never seem to match up. Stephanie starts to think that there’s a connection between the kidnappings and the new drug supplier in town, but no one seems to listen to her. Nice, logical girls would stay back and assess, waiting for the Batman or Oracle to give her orders. Luckily for Gotham, Stephanie Brown is done being a nice, logical girl. [comic review] robin, vol. 2: triumphant (1991-93)
“detective work is often made up of intangibles. it’s looking for the out-of-place, the unusual… even the unthinkable.”
the first comic in this collection is batman #465 “debut” which covers tim drake’s first official night as robin out on patrol with batman. it’s an alan grant-penned story and you know how i usually feel about those, and there is some of his usual weird bullshit politics happening. the art is great, though, and i do like the bits that are just robin on patrol. but the story as a whole is just… not great. c-rank
thankfully we quickly switch gears to a three-issue arc by the chuck dixon, batmans #467-#469 “shadow box”. there’s a kinda annoying throwaway line early on about a seized weapons shipment looking like “saddam hussein’s christmas list,” but it’s from a fed who is set up to look like an asshole so i’m gonna let it slide. the story as a whole features the return of robin’s first major adversaries, king snake and lynx.
in addition to moving his operation to gotham to escape the imminent transfer of sovereignty to communist china,6 king snake is also out for revenge on robin. he sends batman several grisly messages letting him know that he’s gunning for the boy, and bruce takes tim of the case while lying to him about the reasons. i hate it when he does this, but it is pretty good storytelling and gets the audience to really identify with robin, so i’m not knocking it from a writing standpoint. just, y’know, ffs bruce. plus robin totally gets vindicated when he goes against batman’s wishes and ends up saving his life, so take that bats.
anyway, yeah, this story is pretty great. literally my only real complaint is i would’ve liked a lot more lynx toying with robin, but i get that she’s just kinda in his rogues gallery now and they can just have them fighting each other without preamble. i just really like seeing boys i relate to get bullied for some reason, no idea why that could be. b-rank
next up, we have the second robin miniseries, robin ii: the joker’s wild! this four-issue limited series was another chuck dixon venture. there’s some weirdness with the joker’s escape that i didn’t love but don’t really want to get into right now, but that’s more or less my only real complaint. from this point on the joker enacts one of his characteristically massive schemes, kneecapping the city’s infrastructure with a computer virus that he forces a tied-up and drugged computer genius to deploy for him.
the vast majority of this miniseries focuses on how rough it is for tim to keep up with his school/social life while also spending his nights trying to protect the city from the joker. it really takes a toll on him, and by the end of the story alfred tells him he doesn’t think batman could’ve done any better. there was some really fine character work in this one, on top of some great detective stuff and superhero stuff. just a really great miniseries in every respect. a-rank
and lastly we get another chuck dixon miniseries, robin iii: cry of the huntress. this one again has some fantastic character work with tim, this time dealing with his father’s return home and facing increasing scrutiny that makes it harder for him to operate as robin. bats actually ends up grounding him anyway because black mask’s emergence in gotham is leading to an uptick in gang violence and bruce is worried tim will get hurt, but when tim ends up stumbling into a situation in the wild involving a girl he starts immediately crushing on getting abducted by the russian mob, he starts sneaking out to do some solo robining.
there’s some political weirdness in this one, which i suppose is pretty unavoidable when kgbeast is involved, but it could’ve been a lot worse. and also like… even here, the politics weren’t all bad? like, there was this russian emigrant who gives robin some helpful information, and i honestly loved how he was written? he helps robin because he wants to help protect his new community from the kind of violence he fled newly-capitalist russia to escape. i’m frankly pretty surprised to see american comics doing this sort of thing so soon after the end of the cold war.
i also honestly really enjoyed how pulpy all the gang stuff was. also lynx and the ghost dragons end up getting involved, and i love how they’re continuing to be a going concern for tim. there still wasn’t nearly enough of lynx bullying him for my liking, but she certainly wanted to and that’s not nothing.
anyway eventually robin is getting his ass kicked when huntress swoops in to the rescue, and they end up joining forces to investigate the russian mobsters. i had at least one issue of this miniseries as a kid. i pretty much scooped up whatever comics i occasionally saw that said “robin” on the cover or prominently featured him, so yeah. it was cool to finally get around to reading this in full. a-rank

Zero Tolerance made us into a supervillain
Caitlin Dickerson’s frightening and moving article We Need to Take Away Children was the cover story of the September 2022 issue of The Atlantic magazine. It reports on the US “Zero Tolerance” policy, the policy of deliberately separating immigrant children from their parents. It should be required reading for everyone. At least everyone who can read English. It is not just a “this was awful” piece, but also dives deeply into who wanted this policy, what they did to get it enacted, and who failed to stop it and why.
In a letter to the editor in the Novemeber 2022 issue, Dr. Ranit Mishori reports that Physicians for Human Rights asserts that the policy in question meets the UN’s criteria for torture. I am not sure it does — but if it does not meet those criteria, it is worse. Criterion (3) is that torture is “for the purpose of coercion, punishment, or intimidation”. I do not know if that criterion is limited to coercion, punishment, or intimidation of the person being tortured or not. While it is clearly torturous to a 3 year old to be forcibly removed from her parents, in this case, the U.S. government policy was in place not to coerce or punish or intimidate the 3 year old, or even her parents. The policy existed to intimidate third parties, namely the victim’s countrymen who might be contemplating an attempt at entry into the United States. Let me state that more succinctly: we were torturing person A (a child, no less) not to extract information or change the behavior of person A, or even of her parents (person B), but rather in an attempt to affect the behavior of person C. Leaving aside the question of what on earth made people like Stephen Miller think that the average Venezuelan contemplating an attempt at crossing the US border is going to have a clue what US immigration policy is like — let’s be clear, the mule who wants to charge an outlandish fee to help transport him and his family is not going to tell him — this is worse than “normal” torture. In fact, this behavior – torturing one person to affect the behavior of someone else — is so heinous it is exactly what Hollywood has the bad guy do whenever they want the audience to cheer when the good guy kills the bad guy without any due process at the end of the film.
Think about it. In Jack Reacher: Never Go Back the Hunter (Patrick Heusinger’s character) threatens to torture, and then abducts and threatens to kill, 15 year old Samantha in an attempt to control Jack Reacher’s behavior. In The Dark Knight the Joker tortures and kills people, particularly Brian Douglas, in order to try to get Batman to “take off his mask and turn himself in”. In Olympus Has Fallen Kang Yeonsak tortures several people, including Secretary of Defense Ruth McMillan, in order to coerce President Benjamin Asher to give him the code to Cerberus. In Skyfall Raoul Silva tortures (and then kills) Sévérine, in part as punishment for her betrayal, but mainly just to upset James Bond. Heck, Darth Vader himself does exactly this in The Empire Strikes Back: he tortures Leia Organa and Han Solo for the sole purpose of luring Luke Skywalker into a trap.
It is hard to swallow that we, the United States of America, are behaving not just like the villain in this story, but like a supervillain.

✨Birds of a Feather✨
Masterlist ✨ Requesting Rules
Request; Could I request a YJs1 Dick x reader with the reader being new to the team and a protege of black canary? He’s my favourite 🥰
A/N; honestly, if one robin is AT LEAST one of your favorites, if they aren’t in the top three, i don’t trust you. also, i really like the way i wrote this a stuff, if anyone wants i can make this a thing. I fucking grew up on young justice i love these characters. rock and roll buckeroo!
Pairing; Dick Grayson(Robin) x Fem!Reader
Warnings; fluff, slight cursing
Tumblr media
Your upbringing wasn’t pleasant, for a short backstory, Black Canary found you when she did a raid on an illegal Meta-Human fighting ring. Your parents sold you to the leader of the ring. Your power was similar to Canary’s, in which your voice was a power. You could mimic sounds around you like a mockingbird, but you had similarities with an owl in the fact that your neck could turn all the way around and you had night vision. Black Canary found you when you were ten, taking you in as her own. She took you under her wing. *dad jokehehuheh*
She had taken care of you for four years, you ever really made you debut as a hero, until Batman started the underground team of sidekicks. Robin of course knew of you, as did Batman because, duh. Well, Roy did too but that was mainly because Green Arrow was dating Canary. He was like a big brother, and he deeply cared for you.
“And this is Black Canary’s protégé, Mockingbird.” You walked out from the shadows, a black hoodie and red jeans on. Your hoodie had your favorite band one it, whatever it may be. “Sup.” You nod your head at the boys, your hood covered your face since it was dark but you also had glasses on, kinda like Robin’s but they were reading glasses. The glasses could profile anyone and bring up their history, if it’s in the web or files on the cloud, you gotem.
Kid Flash was easy, he didn’t both with covering his face, everyone else was open with you, but not Robin. You glasses always got glitched out when you tried to activate them while looking at him. He knew this and did it on purpose. He didn’t know much about you, only you hero name, you also did that on purpose, it was a fun little battle. You were closer to Robin anyways, being close in age but that didn’t stop Wally from flirting. “Hey babe~ Wanna spar~?” The redhead would ask, before you could speak he would go pale. “Nevermind.” Then he’d run away, you guessed it was Robin, he had mastered the infamous bat-glare.
When Artemis joined the team, you were happy. Another human girl on the team, no offense to M’gann but you felt more comfortable with another human female around. Plus, she was funny. You lived in Star City with Diane and Oliver, and you met her first, it was awesome when you came with her to the Cave and saw all of them shocked.
“What’s up, birdy?” You smile as you trotted over to Robin, you didn’t really have a superhero suit, you kinda took after Black Canary, civilian clothes were your hero clothes. It was usually blood stained black leggings, a navy blue crop top hoodie and black paint around your eyes and bridge of your nose rather than a regular mask because those were itchy. “Do NOT call me that.” Boy Wonder grumbled and elbowed you playfully. You gave him a smirk and batted you eyelashes at him. “You love me.” “No I don’t.” He snorted.
“The Wallman is here!” A redhead yelled through the zeta-tubes as he entered, the loud noise made you yelp and grab onto the nearest person, which was Robin. When you both realized that you both turned red. “Yeesh...stay whelmed Mockingbird.” He finally got out after being frozen. You both had completely ignored the situation going on around you, until...
“Recognize: Speedy, B06.” The computer spoke, making you grinning like an idiot and turn towards the tubes. “Well for starters, he doesn’t go by speedy anymore. Call me Red Arrow.” Your eyes lit up at your brother, well not really brother but you both looked at each other as such. “Roy-” Oliver started but you cut him off. “Roy!” You yelled happily and ran towards your redhead. “Wa to ruin his moment...” Wally grumbled but you flipped him off as you hugged Roy. “Why don’t you call anymore? I’ve been worried. So was Olly, and I guess Robin, Kaldur, and Wally, but I’m your sister!” You whined and teared up, your tears mixing with the paint you used as a mask causing black tears.
“Oh birdie...you know why.” Roy soothed causing you to sniffle and rub your tears away. “Right, sorry.” You mumble and pull away, “Sorry.” You mumbled again and walked back to your spot by Robin, the taller boy put a hand on your shoulder. “Roy, you look-” Oliver started, “Replaceable.” Roy hissed and walked over. “You know it’s not like that.” “Then why bother with a sub? Can she even use that bow?” He gestured angrily to the blonde archer. “Yes she can.” Artemis hissed back. “Who are you?!” Wally whined. “I’m his niece.” “She’s his niece.” “She’s my niece.” Artemis, you, and Green Arrow stated in a matter-of-fact like tone. “Another niece?” Robin snorted, earning an elbow from you.
“But he’s not your replacement!” You chimed in, walking over to the arrows. “We have always wanted you on the team.” Aqualad said, walking over to the now, Red Arrow. “And we have no quota on archers.” The leader continued. “And if we did, you know who we’d pick!” Wally chimed, glaring over at Artemis. “Whatever Baywatch,” Artemis glared, “I’m here to stay.” You stifled a chuckle and looked away. “Baywatch...” You snorted. “But you came here for a reason, right Roy?” You asked when you finally calmed down. “Yeah, a reason named Dr. Sterling Roquette.”
Both yours and Robin’s eyes widened before you both pulled up a file with the holographic computer. “Nano-robotics genius-” Robin started as he began typing. “And claytronics expert at Royal University in Star City! I love her!” You finished and gushed the last part. “Vanished two weeks ago.” Robin continued, earning a frown on your face. “Abducted two weeks ago, by the League of Shadows.” “Woah, you want us to rescue her from The Shadows?” Boy wonder said in a hopeful tone. “Hardcore.” Wally said in awe and fist bumped the other boy. “Dumbasses.” You scoffed and hit them both in the back of the neck. “Roy probably already did that.” You pointed out and walked over to him with a big smile. Roy smiled back and ruffled your hair. “She’s right, I already rescued her. There’s only one problem, the shadows already got her to make a weapon, ‘Doc call it the Fog.” Roy pulled up an image of a dark cylinder looking object with red buttons.
“It’s comprised of millions of microscopic robots, nanotech infiltrators, capable of disintegrating anything in their path- concrete, steel, flesh, bone.- but it’s true purpose isn’t mere destruction. It’s theft. The infiltrators eat and story raw data from any computer system and deliver the stolen data to the Shadows. Providing them access to weapons, strategic defense, cutting edge science and tech.” “Perfect for extortion, manipulation, and power broking.” Artemis starts, earning a groan from Wally, an admiring look from you, and a knowing look from Robin. “Yep. Sounds like The Shadows.” She finishes. “Oh like you know anything about The Shadows.” Wally groans and glares at the blonde, who just smirks. “Who ARE you?!” Wally yells obviously irritated, both you and Robin chuckled a little.
“Roquette’s working on a virus to render the Fog inert.” Roy says, ignoring the childish behavior. “But if The Shadows know she can do that...” Robin started quietly, you gasped softly. “They’ll target her.” You whisper in shock. “It’s okay, right now she’s off the grid. I stashed her in a local highschool computer lab.” Roy shrugs, opening his mouth to speak again. “You left her alone?” Green Arrow asks in shock and mild disappointment. ‘Oh great, here we go again.’ You think as you roll  you eyes. “She’s safe enough for now.” Roy spits and glares at Oliver. “Then let’s you and I take care of that together.” “You and I? Don’t you want to take your new protogé.” The redhead spits again, earning a groan from you. “Roy, you brought this to the team, we’ll talk care of it okay?” You say softly, putting your hand on his shoulder. “And she is part of the team. I promise nothing bad will happen. Trust me, big bro.” You smile, a child like glint in you e/c eyes. “Fine, Y/n. I trust you.” Roy whispered, kissing your forehead before leaving. “Speedy-” The computer started, “Change that to Red Arrow.” You spoke up before Roy could, you winked at him before he left.
Robin knew it was a platonic gesture, you both looked at each other like siblings, he knew that. He fucking knew but a piece of him was jealous. He didn’t know why, maybe he like you? No, he wouldn’t, doesn’t matter anyways. The team had a mission to do. But god damnit he couldn’t stop thinking about it. He wished he could be the one kissing your forehead, holding you, knowing your actual name like Roy did. Damn, being a teenager with feelings fucking SUCKS.
All of a sudden you all were linked up by Miss Martian telepathy. “Everyone online?” Her voice rung inside your head, causing a giggle. “Mhm.”  You hummed in your head while you sat on a table between Kid Flash and Robin. “Woah, this is weird.” Artemis said, in her head of course, and you just giggled in response. “I know right? Prepare for a killer headache when Megan cuts it off!” You giggled more as you popped some of Wally’s fruit snacks in your mouth. Then the doctor started complaining. “Lady, I’m not really diggin your attitude right now.” You say while rolling your eyes. “You literally look like some random kid they got from the street!” The doctor replied earning a huff from you as you sat up straight.
“You literally look like some random kid they got from the street.” You said, using your mocking power, you spoke in her exact voice, earning a shocked look from her. “Now shut the fuck up.” You hissed in your normal voice, earning a stern look from Aqualad. “Oh don’t judge my language fish boy.” You grumbled and crossed your arms, looking through a blind. “Do you always act like this when people try to help you?” Wally’s voice rung in your head. “Pot, kettle, you’ve met?” Artemis replied, you snickered slightly. “Great, now I want kettle corn. Thanks Art.” You whined and then ignored them arguing until Robin spoke. “You should give her some more credit. It was /her/ arrow that saved you from Amazo.” Robin said with a smirk, in which you practically swooned. “No, it was Spee-Red Arrow’s arrow, right?” “Not so much.” Robin snickered and you did as well.
“God I love his voice.” You thought and then you realized that everyone was connected, SHIT. Your eyes widened and your face turned red. “I mean haha, I was thinking of something else.” You got up. “I’ll...I’ll go an patrol the halls...hall monitor duties.” You got up. “Oh god oh god. This is so embarrassing.” You though as you messed with your fingerless gloves. “Should we tell her?” Wally’s voice rang in your head, you could feel him smirking. “THEN DON’T LISTEN!” You screamed from the hallway and you could hear his laughs. Everyone basically knew you had a crush on Robin, it was obvious to everyone but him. He felt the same, it was also obvious to everyone but you. This was not the TIME.
You were walking down the hall, until you heard footsteps behind you. You turned around, punching the figure and wrapping you legs around the person’s waist as you pinned them down. “Woah woah, stay whelmed, Mockingbird.” You squeezes you legs tighter when you realized it was Robin. “What do you want?” You whisper-shouted. “You seemed to be distraught. You really should get traught.” He gave you a smirk that you always melted over. “Mind not squeezing me to death?” He asked and you flushed as you let him go from you thighs crushing him.
“Your wordplay is so stupid...” You smiled softly and tucked a piece of hair behind your ear. “So what? You said you love my voice.” Robin teased. “I do.” You sighed and then covered your mouth in shock. “I-I mean...shut up!” Robin bit his lip and rubbed the back of his neck. “I have to head out with Superboy.” He mumbled in which you sighed and grabbed his wrist before he could leave. “Be safe okay?” You whisper softly, getting closer to him. His lips were inches away from your. Robin smiled and kissed your forehead. “I’ll try.” He smiled in which you turned so red you were sure you would’ve been glowing. “It’s Y/n...Y/n L/n.” You spoke up as he started to walk away. “That’s my name.” You mumble. He turned around, wide eyed.
“Y/n L/n eh? That’s a pretty name.” Robin teased before running off.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why had this day turned into shit? I woke up this morning in a good mood. My hair and makeup looked amazing. I made it to work early. I had a decent night of tips. I even met a couple of hot guys who were not total douchebags. Overall, it had been a pretty good day. So why then, on my way home did I have to run into these assholes?
“Hey there baby, looking good.” I hear a male voice say from behind me and I roll my eyes.
Just ignore them.
“What’s the matter sweetheart, you think you’re too good for us?” Another male voice asks, and I clench my fist so tightly that my fingers were turning white.
Keep walking. Do not hurt them.
I keep my thoughts on repeat as I continue down the street until a man twice my size and built like a brick house steps into my path. His brown eyes looking me up and down hungrily. My stomach churned.
“Wanna join us for a little party?” He asks and I narrow my eyes at him.
“No.” I answer my words filled with finality.
“Come on, you don’t mean that.” He adds as he reaches out to touch me.
I instantly step back out of his reach causing his hand to miss my shoulder and fall to his side.
“I do mean it. Now, move while I’m still asking nicely.” I demand making him chuckle at me.
“Or what sweet cheeks? What are you going to do?” He questions moving towards me again and I suddenly realize the guys from before are still there as they stop me from moving back any further.
I feel a hand touch my waist and I instantly slap it away.
“Do not touch me.” I state anger filling my words.
“Come on, just play around with us. You’ll enjoy it.” The man from behind me says and I roll my eyes.
“I seriously doubt that.” I retort making his friends laugh at him.
“Let’s go baby,” The big man says reaching out and grabbing my arms holding it dangerously tight.
“You have three seconds to get your hand off of me.” I warn my jaw clenching.
“Or what? What are you gonna do?” He challenges as he jerks me into his chest.
Fuck this shit.
Using just a hint of my super strength I grab the wrist of the hand that was holding my arm and giving it a quick squeeze make him fall to his knees. A cry of pain leaves his lips making his friends come to his rescue. I feel them move behind me and I smirk as I twist just right to send the big dude flying into them. Wiping my hands against each other, I place them on my hips and cock an eyebrow at my attackers.
“I’m going to give you one more chance. Apologize, and then be on your way.”
“Why would I apologize to some freak?!” The big guy yells and I narrow my eyes.
“Cause if you don’t,” I walk closer to them my eyes slowly starting to glow as brightly as the sun. Fear fills their eyes and I do not even need to finish my sentence. My eyes speak for themselves.
“I’m sorry,” Big guy instantly yells out as he tries to scramble to his feet. His buddies following suit.
“I’m sorry, what?” I add folding my arms over my chest.
“I’m sorry, ma’am.” They all yell out and I smile.
“Good, now remember, treat ladies with the respect they deserve, or I’ll find you.” I warn and their faces pale. “Bye-bye.” With a quick wave of my hand, they jump to their feet and race away.
Taking a deep breath, I look to the sky and seeing the moon glowing brightly let out a heavy sigh. I knew Gotham was a dangerous city, but after everything that had happened in Metropolis, I had needed a break. A break from being a hero and fighting crime. Plus, a break from him. My heart winces at the memory and I shake my head.
I force the memory from my head and continue back on my way home. Maybe a tub of ice cream and some take-out would raise my spirits.
~~~
Bruce stood on the roof of a building catty-corner to the alley where the event had taken place. He had watched the altercation with curious eyes. He had met her earlier that day when a Dick had wanted to meet with him at a little restaurant nearby. At first Bruce had been surprised about the location of their meeting but seeing his oldest smile brightly at the beautiful waitress cleared up any questions he had previously had.
Flashback
Bruce walked through the restaurant door and gave the room a once over before his eyes landed on his oldest son’s figure. The boy was smiling brightly as he talked with a (H/C) waitress who had her back towards Bruce. Dick’s eyes glance past her and landing on Bruce give him a quick wave. Bruce unbuttons the buttons on his suit as he closes the distance between them. Reaching the seat, he swiftly slides into the booth seat across from Dick.
“Hey Bruce, glad you could make it.” Dick starts making Bruce nod. “Bruce, this is (Name).”
“Hello.” Bruce says his eyes glancing up to look at her politely but as they move back to look at Dick, he had to do a double take his eyes landing on the beautiful waitress in front of him.
“Hi.” (Name) replies softly a smile filling her lips.
Their eyes meet and Bruce swears that she was like the sun. Her bright smile and shining (E/C) eyes made his heart race in his chest.
“Nice to meet you.” Bruce adds a smirk on his lips.
“Nice to meet you too.” She replies shyly. “What can I get you to eat?”
“I’ll just take a coffee.” Bruce replies quickly and she nods.
“And you’ll have the deluxe?” She adds as she turns back to Dick.
“Yes ma’am.” He replies a smirk filling his lips as he tries to flirt with her.
“Coming right up. I’ll be right back.” She replies smiling at them both before she turns and walks away.
Bruce can’t help but stare after her as she walks away. His eyes unconsciously look her up and down examining every inch of her. From her hair down to her feet which were uncharacteristically in a pair of dark blue high heels. Normal waitresses would not be caught dead in high heels and he would know. He had dated enough of them. The sound of Dick clearing his throat brought Bruce back from his staring.
“I know she’s pretty Bruce, but we have to talk.” Dick jokes making Bruce glare at him.
“What did you need?” Bruce asks as he leans back in his seat.
“Nothing, just wanted to have lunch.” Dick replies making Bruce cock an eyebrow at him.
“Right.” Bruce says leaning forward to rest his arms on the table.
“And I might have wanted to talk to you about Damian.”
“What did he do this time?”
“Knocked over a meth lab over in Bludhaven. Almost got some innocent people killed.”
“I’ll talk with him.” Bruce concludes his eyes catching sight of (Name) as she makes her way back over with his coffee and Dick’s drink.
As she sets the mug of coffee down in front of him, she gives him a sweet smile. Bruce offers a polite smile in return as he reaches out to pull the coffee closer to him.
“Thank you (Name).” Bruce says and her smile brightens.
“You’re very welcome.” She replies a tinge of rouge filling her cheeks.
Bruce had to admit he was having some unsavory thoughts about her at this moment and it was driving him crazy. He usually didn’t feel this way about a woman this fast. He wanted to touch her, but he held back.
“(Name) how long have to you worked here?” Dick asks pulling her attention.
“Only a month or so. I just moved here from Metropolis.” She says and he looks through his eyelashes at her to see that she was surprised at what she had said.
“Metropolis, huh, why would you want to move here?” Dick asks and Bruce must fight the urge to kick his son under the table.
“Well,” She pauses for a moment her eyes turning sad and it made Bruce furious. “I wanted a fresh start, I figured why not Gotham.” She answers honestly making Dick and Bruce eye each other in surprise. People didn’t usually move to Gotham for a fresh start. In fact, they ran from Gotham. “Sorry, but I have to go, if you need anything please don’t hesitate to ask.” She says as she quickly moves away from the table.
“Isn’t she pretty?” Dick asks as they both stare off after her.
Pretty doesn’t cover it.
“I need to go.” Bruce says as he finishes his coffee off. “I’ll talk to Damien.”
“Thanks Bruce, tell Alfred I’ll be late tonight. I have a mission with Babs.” Dick adds and Bruce nods.
Standing up he makes his way toward the door when he almost runs into her. She hadn’t been paying attention to where she was walking and almost ran smack dab into him.
“Shit, I’m sorry. I should have been paying attention.” She says quickly as she chastises herself.
“It’s fine (name).” He says and she relaxes. “Thank you for the coffee.”
“You’re welcome.” She replies offering him a soft smile. She goes to walk past him when he stops her.
“This might seem forward of me, if it is, I apologize; but if you’d like I can show you around Gotham sometime.” Bruce hears himself ask and even he is surprised. Had he really asked her that?
“Um,” She starts her body radiating how uncomfortable she was.
“I’m sorry, forget I asked.” He quickly adds as he goes to walk past her.
“I’m sorry, wait.” She calls as she gently reaches out to grab his arm. “I’m a little uncomfortable, I won’t lie.” She pauses giving him a chance to turn back to face her. “But I didn’t say no.” She adds and he lets out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding.
“Oh?” He says and instantly wishes he could smack himself.
“Yeah, um, I’m off tomorrow if that works for you.”
Fuck, he had an important Justice League meeting tomorrow.
“Tomorrow works.” He answers making a mental note to push the meeting to later.
“Cool, um I’ll meet you in Robinson Park about noonish then?” She asks and he nods.
“Works for me.”
“Okay, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then Bruce.” She says a bright smile on her lips.
God she was gorgeous.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” He says flashing her a smile before she rushes off back to work.
End of Flashback
Bruce did not know what to think about what he had just witnessed. Who was she really? The fact that his interest in her wasn’t swayed by the sudden discovery surprised him. Against his better judgement he follows her and when it’s quiet enough he makes his presence known to her.
“Pretty interesting display, you showed back there.” He says making her stop in her footsteps. He watches as she turns towards him with a worried look on her face.
“Are you here to lecture me?” She asks worry turning into anger.
“No, I thought you standing up for yourself was admirable.” He answers honestly and she softens. “What are you doing here in Gotham?”
“Look Bats, I came here to get away from Metropolis, funny I know, considering its right across the bay, but this was the only place I could think of.”
“Who are you really? I’ve seen your eyes before.” Bruce says as he remembers the bright glow of them.
“Can we talk about this inside?” She asks pointing to her apartment building. “Rather not air my dirty laundry out here if you don’t mind. I won’t run, I have no reason too.”
Against Bruce’s better judgement he nods.
“Cool, I’ll open the window when I get there.” She replies as she turns from him and heads into her building.
Bruce moves to the roof as he waits patiently for her to open her window. His mind starts to run wild with thoughts about who she could be. She wasn’t a villain, that was certain. She just did not have that air about her. He had been wrong before though. A few of his exes could attest to that. The window opens and he stealthily makes his way into it.
Will Continue on the 22nd of January.

ok, I watched the Pennyworth pilot, my thoughts:
- I was immediately struck by the vibe. I was really sold on what was being conveyed through the music, visual aesthetics, tone, ect. It was a strong presentation. (I watched the Superman and Lois pilot earlier this month, and while they established the small-town setting of Smallville it felt very contained/constrained where we didn’t see that much of it whereas this pilot showed off much more of the world.)
- I went into this not knowing a whole lot about the characterization that they were gonna use for Alfred and Thomas and I really really enjoyed the approach. For Alfred, he came across as so young and so competent and just his mannerisms and his personality made him very appealing as a character that I now want to follow. I’m intrigued by his conflict and competence with violence and his desire to be his own man and how those thing will play out in the future episodes. (I also liked how he approached his family in his conversation with Esme after the terrible breakfast, and didn’t dismiss them or their role in his life and also insisting that he exists separately from them/isn’t defined by them.) For Thomas, I enjoyed how abrupt and direct he was in the early nightclub scenes, and then that being followed up his whole demeanor during the abduction... loved that. His interactions with his sister and his mother on the fun were fun, but his interactions with Alfred were of course the most entertaining.
- I wasn’t expecting them to be calling Alfie soft in the beginning. I think when you think of Alfred Pennyworth you traditionally think of something very formal and probably cold, but again I really liked this Alfred.
- I honestly don’t feel bogged down at all by knowledge of Batman comics. Like there are parts in some of Alfred and Thomas’ interactions where you know ‘oh, they don’t know how their relationship is gonna end up but we do’ but Alfred just seems so young in this show, I am not thinking about him as an old man, and I’m not thinking ‘oh, Thomas is gonna die in front of his child’ whenever he’s on screen or anything. I’m not constantly looking at everything through the lens of this being the precursor to Batman, the show is standing on its own. And it’s interesting on its own! (Not that I’m super into Batman comics, I just mean that broadly speaking there’s appeal for a non-Batman fan audience. I don’t have to care about Batman to care about these versions of these characters.)
- The scene where Alfred and his friends take Thomas hostage is what sold this show for me. I loved the way they spoke to one another there:
Thomas: “I assume Esme is somebody very close to you, so I can’t appeal to your compassion or your avarice, but I do appeal to your reason. If they kill me, they have to kill you. They can’t afford to have any loose ends. The stakes are too high. There will be no exchange.”
Alfred: “That’s possible. If you have some alternative plan, I’m happy to listen.”
Thomas: “I am not qualified to formulate such a plan.”
“Alfred: “No. I can’t think of anything either.”
- Oh my gosh... and then the conversation in the car... and then their ending conversation where Thomas tries to hire Alfred... love the writing, love the acting, love the relationship between those two, it’s all so very entertaining. They’re different but their both straightforward in a way that I feel is very complementary.
- Also, I wasn’t expecting to be interested in the romantic relationship between Alfred and Esme just because I’m not much of a romance fan but this episode successfully sold me on it, particularly the scene where she demonstrates parts of her play in the park and then their dynamic when they’re turning down Thomas’ job offer. They’re fun. It... didn’t work out for Esme that she tried to escape that first time on her own, but I’m glad that she wasn’t timid, and I was glad to see her assert herself later in the Pennyworths’ home. There are definitely less interesting ways her character could have been written.

batman: the abduction
[ID: Bruce Wayne shown in the foreground as he types and stares at the computer. Behind him, Alfred watches while looking mildly concern. He hesitantly proposes, “Erm... I hate to suggest it, sir—but you don't perhaps think you're suffering from some kind of delusion?” Bruce looks over his shoulder at him as he replies, “Delusion it may be, Alfred—but I'm far from alone in suffering it.” END ID]

My girlfriend asked me to make her a list of works of fantasy and science fiction so should could feel keyed into references when they come up in conversation. She wanted to feel more grounded in these genres, which she likes, but hasnt made the effort to be on top of everything.
I was happy to compile the most important names, but told her it couldn’t be a short list because recognizing the works of today means honoring their origins, which goes way back into our past.
What’s below is my best effort to include what I assess to be the most culturally relevant becoming, tempering my favorites, and trying to keep it from being totally overwhelming. I’ve left off works from the past five to ten years because it can take a span of time before we're aware the effects new ideas may have. Felt like sharing here in case you or your friends want a crash course on the bedrock of our imagined landscape. I do try to be globally aware, however this list will reflect my bias as a white, straight, male who grew up in the States. And as this is an ongoing conversation between her and myself, I wanted to be able to vouch for the contents.

Nice Logical Girl
by stopgivingmeheck Stephanie realized she was being spiteful. The Many Crossovers of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
http://bit.ly/2Xzhucg
There have been so many different incarnations of the Heroes in a Half Shell and between them, they've seemingly met just about everyone!

tumblr
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has covered a lot of ground in the past 35 years. There are so many different takes on "four reptiles in eye masks who fight crime with ninjitsu" that it's honestly hard to keep count of all the different continuities. From the gritty Frank Miller homages of the earliest comics to goofball cartoon characters to CGI hunchbacks in the latest two movies, there have been a wide range of interpretations.
Like all popular properties, the Ninja Turtles have done their share of crossovers. They've met all kinds of characters and rubbed elbows with so many different franchises. They've fought alongside everyone from Archie to Batman to Alf. You can basically plug and play them into any situation at this point.
Tumblr media
Starting, fittingly enough, in the Mirage days, the Turtles' first crossover came in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #8. Turtle creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird teamed together with Dave Sim and Gerhard to do a story where the foursome met up with Sim's magnum opus character Cerebus. Otherwise known as the star of "that once-beloved barbarian aardvark comic that went off the rails once Sim grew to hate women."
Watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Amazon
In the story, we're introduced to Renet, a time-travel witch with no pants who acts as an apprentice to a strict master, who she's deathly afraid of. After screwing up, she steals a magic scepter and hides out in 1986 New York City, immediately coming into contact with the Turtles. Escaping her master once again, she brings all of them to 1406, where they run afoul of Cerebus the Aardvark. The three parties reluctantly team up with the easily-disgruntled Cerebus annoyed by the mere presence of the Turtles while the Turtles are constantly annoyed by Renet's never-ending, airheaded attitude. A year after this issue, the Turtles and Cerebus – once again depicted by Eastman, Laird, and Sim – would briefly meet up in the pages of Miami Mice #4, where Cerebus again wanted to distance himself from the four.
Tumblr media
Also in 1986, the memorable Donatello Micro-Series issue (the one where he teamed up with Jack Kirby) ended with a pin-up by Stan Sakai, depicting the Turtles surrounding his own anthromorphic swordsman creation Miyamoto Usagi from the comic Usagi Yojimbo. 1987 brought us a comic called Turtle Soup, where various comic creators would do short stories featuring the Ninja Turtles. Sakai got to write a storyline where due to some magical residue brought on from his adventure with Renet, Leonardo is sent spiraling through time and ends up in an adventure with Usagi. The two are attacked by the same pack of enemies and cut them down until they are the only ones left. They turn their attentions to each other and are about to go at it, but Leonardo returns to the present, causing Usagi to run through nothing and crash into a tree.
read more: The Original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie is Still Amazing
That began a lengthy relationship between the two properties. Miyamoto Usagi became the Alien to the Ninja Turtles' Predator. In the Mirage comics, Leonardo made several more trips into Usagi's time and eventually brought his brothers with him. Usagi got his own action figure as part of Playmates' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line, showed up in a couple video games, and two of the animated series. In the '80s cartoon he was named Usagi Yojimbo, I suppose for simplicity's sake, where he was stranded on Earth after being pulled in from an alternate reality. He starred in two episodes.
The 4Kids cartoon had him show up more often, also from an alternate reality, though they played up his relationship with Leonardo more than the '80s cartoon. When they did the Flash Forward part of the series where the Turtles were in the future, they intended to introduce his comic book descendant Space Usagi, but that never came to be.
Tumblr media
One of the more entertaining crossovers came in the form of Flaming Carrot Comics #25 to #27 by Bob Burden, where Raphael gets stricken with amnesia and ends up becoming the sidekick to mentally-lacking superhero the Flaming Carrot. Raphael ends up wearing a sack on his head and a cape that says "BREAD" on it, calling himself the Night Avenger. Instead, the authorities call him Bread Boy. The two of them, later joined by the rest of the Turtles and Mysterymen member Screwball, work together to prevent a group of evil umpires from using the disembodied head of Frankenstein's Monster to steal the Empire State Building. It was very, very weird.
read more: The Weirdest Classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Episodes Ever
The two parties would meet up again a few years later in a four-issue Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Flaming Carrot crossover with Jim Lawson on art, where a military team has gone missing after investigating a mysterious island. The government brings in the Turtles to investigate, while at the same time, the Mysterymen start their own investigation. The two sides collide, befriend each other, and then fight fire ghosts, a werewolf, and other ridiculous things. Meanwhile, the Flaming Carrot tries selling lemonade. He isn't successful.
Tumblr media
Across the '90s, the Ninja Turtles crossed paths a couple times with Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon. Drawn by Michael Dooney, 1993's Savage Dragon/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has Dragon visit New York City to investigate some animated gargoyles abducting the elderly. While friendly with the Turtles, he has a running gag of never being able to tell them apart, suggesting that they get initials on their belt buckles. Even then, in a later crossover, he refers to Raphael as "Rembrandt."
Image Comics took in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise in the mid-90s, so they became integrated with the universe more. Turtles showing up in Savage Dragon's comics – which happened quite a bit – was no longer all that special anymore. Raphael even made a quick appearance fighting a Martian in an alley in Mars Attacks Image.
read more: The Real Life Stories Behind Martial Arts Movie Legends
The most amusing appearance during this time was Gen 13 #13B, where Grunge goes on a journey that causes him to run into all sorts of indie comic characters like Bone, Madman, Savage Dragon, etc. His brief meeting with the Ninja Turtles has a bit of a meta thing going on where Grunge asking, "What happened to you guys?" is less about how they got in a life-and-death predicament and more about how they lost their overwhelming popularity.
Otherwise, the Mirage-era Ninja Turtles made a couple other less-notable crossover appearances. In 1991, they appeared in The Last of the Viking Heroes Meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Michael Thibodeaux, which again brought time travel into the fray. In 1996, we got Creed/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Trent Kaniuga, where they got tangled up in a plot with a young boy named Creed and a mystical, green crystal. While the Ninja Turtles had nothing to do with it, one of their supporting characters starred in the two-part Gizmo and the Fugitoid comic by Laird and Michael Dooney.
Tumblr media
During the early '90s, the Ninja Turtles also appeared in a more family-friendly comic run under the Archie Comics banner. Naturally, this gave us Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Meet Archie by Ryan Brown and Dean Clarrain. Around that time in the Archie Turtles series, the four are brought to various realities by Cudley the Cowlick, a giant, cosmic, talking cow head. Because comics are weird. He drops them off in Riverdale for twelve hours. Archie and Betty see them and freak out over what they figured to be an alien invasion, yet nobody believes them. The four disguise themselves and even check out a Josie and the Pussycats concert incognito, but reveal their true identities when Veronica gets kidnapped by some criminals intending to get a hefty ransom. It isn't nearly as good as Archie Meets the Punisher, but it's fine for what it is.
read more: The Comic Book Roots of the First TMNT Movie
In terms of properties with far less staying power, there was also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Meet the Conservation Corps by Paul Castiglia and Dan Nakrosis. This was actually used to springboard the short-lived comic where an alien crash-lands onto Earth and uses some special tech to turn random animals into mutants for the sake of protecting the Earth from pollution. It was just as hokey as you'd expect, though the villain design wasn't bad. Oily Bird is a giant, oil-covered duck, the only survivor of an oil tanker spill that killed his family. The mix of oil and toxic waste turned him into an insane monster out to overrun the entire planet with pollution. So, I mean, the comic has that going for it. Looking at covers for the Conservation Corps series, he later became a cyborg. So it has that going for it too.
Also under the Archie banner, the Turtles made a quick guest appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog #10, back when that series was young and intentionally silly. Sonic was busy running through an underground labyrinth and when in a sewer, the four Turtles ran by, admitting out loud that they were basically lost. Not only in the wrong sewer, but in the wrong comic as well.
Tumblr media
Nearly twenty years later, Sonic's evil double (no, the other one) Scourge ended up in prison with Bebop and Rocksteady in Sonic Universe #29, though that's more of an Easter egg thing than an official crossover.
Speaking of criminal acts, the '80s animated series led to Michelangelo showing up in the all-so-memorable Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, the anti-drug cartoon about a teenager who gets into marijuana. After he's seen stealing money from his little sister, a bunch of cartoon characters come to life to spend a half hour lecturing him that drugs are bad and smoking weed will make you look like a zombie and kill you. Alongside Michelangelo are Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, the Muppet Babies, Winnie the Pooh, Slimer, the Smurfs, Alf, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. That's a of properties that got transformed into lousy CGI movies over the last few years...

Oh, God. We're due for a CGI Alf reboot, aren't we?
Regardless, as someone who was 8 when that cartoon came out, us kids only gave a damn about Michelangelo showing up. Dude didn't even get to appear on the VHS cover.
Tumblr media
It wasn't Garfield's only meeting with Michelangelo. The winter 1992 edition of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Magazine had a one-page comic written by Garfield creator Jim Davis with Gary Barker and Larry Fentz on art and Laird himself doing the inking. The gag here is that Garfield tries disguising himself as the fifth Ninja Turtle in order to get them to leave him alone with all their pizza. Instead, they choose to beat the holy hell out of him, which is rather messed up, all things considered.

He's just a normal cat with the ability to inner-monologue, guys.
Tumblr media
In 1997, the Ninja Turtles returned to TV with the abysmal Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. The live-action show introduced their female member Venus and lasted for a mere six months before cancellation. An episode of Power Rangers in Space called "Shell Shocked" brought the two parties together and while it should have been the best thing ever, it was outright terrible. The evil Astronema decided the best way to defeat the Power Rangers would be to summon the Ninja Turtles, brainwash them, and then make them betray the Rangers. Everyone was insufferable, nothing made any sense, and they only came to their senses by the weakest of all plot devices. It ended with the five Turtles surfing through space and me wanting to die.
The preview of the following episode mentioned Bulk being attacked by a claw and that had me more pumped than the previous 22 minutes.
Tumblr media
One bit of strangeness is how the Turtles had a tendency to constantly crossover with Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of the Moo Mesa. Namely the fact that these multiple adventures happened well over a decade after the Moo Mesa cartoon's cancellation, and even then, it wasn't exactly the most memorable show to go back to. The mutant cows appeared sporadically through various issues of Mirage's Tales of the TMNT in a bunch of dimension-hopping storylines I'm not going to even begin to explain.
read more: The Essential Episodes of Tales From the Cryptkeeper
Around that time, when the 4Kids animated series did the Flash Forward season, the Turtles were thrown into a Danger Room-type simulation by the villain Viral where they're stuck having to face the cast of Moo Mesa in a barfight. Viral leaves them to die and returns later, insulted to see the Turtles playing cards with the likes of Moo Montana.
Tumblr media
That 4Kids Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series lasted a good seven seasons. Once Nickelodeon bought the rights to everything Ninja Turtles and it was apparent that the 4Kids series was going to be cancelled, they went out in style with Turtles Forever. The animated movie was about the 2000s cartoon crossing over with the '80s cartoon in a plot where the badass Utrom Shredder takes over the '80s Technodrome and tries to use it to wipe out all reality.
There are a couple minor problems in there. The '80s Turtles are treated a little too much as jokes to the point that all four of them are practically Michelangelo. Due to union issues, the original voice actors couldn't come back, meaning we were cheated out of James Avery playing Shredder one last time. Still, it was a wonderful love letter to the various takes on the characters, especially in the final act, where they visited the black-and-white world of Turtle Prime, where they met the grim and gritty Mirage Turtles.
read more: The Craziest Episodes of the Beetlejuice Animated Series
Coincidentally, an episode of the Nickelodeon CGI animated series called "Wormquake" has shown that show's animated Turtles looking through alternate realities and seeing their '80s cartoon counterparts, with Michelangelo wondering why they look like dorks. The hour-long episode has them fight a giant worm and in the end, they get rid of it by sending it to one of the alternate realities. That gives us a quick scene of the '80s incarnations choosing to fight it, all while giving us back the original voice actors. Seriously, hearing Donatello yell, "Turtle Power!" gave me the warm fuzzies.
The Nickelodeon cartoon team and the '80s cartoon team would finally meet up in the season 4 episode "Trans Dimensional Turtles." It's essentially a half-hour remake of Turtles Forever (right down to the use of the Mirage universe in the third act) only using the current show and focusing on a team-up between '80s Krang and Kraang Subprime. Again, the original voice actors return and it leads to a funny moment where Rob Paulsen's '80s Raphael makes fun of the way Rob Paulsen's '10s Donatello talks.

That brings us to the current IDW comic series. IDW has a lot of licensed series under its belt and back in 2011, they introduced a soft crossover event called Infestation. The idea was that a zombie virus was spreading around on an inter-dimensional level. That meant it tied together all these different properties without actually having them meet up. The first series included Zombies vs. Robots, Star Trek, Transformers, Ghostbusters, and GI Joe. A year later, they did Infestation 2, which included Transformers, Dungeons and Dragons, GI Joe, 30 Days of Night, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Instead of zombies, the second series focused more on Lovecraftian nightmares. Over the course of two issues, the Turtles investigate some disturbances in the sewer and defeat an otherworldly squid, saving reality.

IDW used the same soft crossover concept more recently in X-Files: Conspiracy. The crossover involves X-Files characters the Lone Gunmen, whose quest to track down a maguffin leads them to various worlds. They deal with Ghostbusters, Transformers, the Crow, and – you guessed it – the Ninja Turtles. While the Turtle tie-in issue doesn't feature Mulder and Scully, it does have them fight vampires, so there's that.
Tumblr media
In 2014, the IDW comic would do a four-issue crossover miniseries with Ghostbusters. Written by Erik Burnham and Tom Waltz with art by Dan Schoening, it revolves around Chi-You, the ever-powerful sibling of Kitsune and the Rat King (who is basically an immortal demigod in IDW continuity). The Turtles and April end up in the Ghostbusters' reality and work alongside Venkman and the rest.
It's a solid outing and one of the things that really works is how everyone matches up with their counterparts. You have the two brains, the two dorks, the two assholes, the redhead lady assistants, and...Leonardo and Winston. Yet the story makes them feel like kindred spirits in the way they act as the down-to-earth ones who have to put up with their partners' over-the-top personalities.
Also great is how even in a cross-dimensional team-up, there's still skepticism. Donatello refuses to believe in ghosts while Egon refuses to believe in aliens. Real glass houses.

This was followed up with a sequel where the ghost of TMNT villain Darius Dun has teamed up with Ghostbusters villains known as the Collectors. The plot has caused different Turtles/Buster pairings to dive through various realities and has led to some neat moments, like Peter using his psychology know-how to help Michelangelo work out his issues with his fall-out with Splinter or how Donatello and Egon discuss their recent experiences of dying and coming back to life. They also run into the ghost of the Turtles' mother and, naturally, Peter hits on her.

One world they visit during this is a society run by mutant animals where Harold, Danny, Bill, and Ernie are the Ghostbusturtles. Cute.

Recently, they have been having endless crossovers with the Dark Knight. The first of which is a trip to the DC Universe for Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a six-issue miniseries by James Tynion IV and Freddie E Williams II. It's fantastic.
They end up stranded in Gotham with the knowledge that the science that allows them to exist doesn't exactly hold up in the DC dimension. Their mutagen will gradually become inert, eventually turning them back to normal turtles.
After a run-in with Batman, the four talk about what the hell just happened. Donatello does some internet research, Michelangelo figures out the pros and cons of this dark avenger, Raphael considers him to be some psychopath, and Leonardo reflects on the fight and figures him out in his own way.
"I've never fought someone like him...Shredder, maybe...but it was different. He was testing us. Avoiding lethal blows...he wanted to figure us out. He was fighting like a detective. I've never seen anything like it."
We ultimately get a team-up of the Foot Clan and the League of Assassins, which makes all the sense in the world, and it gets over-the-top once they use mutagen on the inmates of Arkham Asylum. Snake Joker, Hyena Harley, Baboon Two-Face, Vulture Scarecrow, Elephant Bane, Penguin Penguin, and so on. But all the mutated Batman villains in Gotham are no match for Splinter wielding Harley's oversized cartoon mallet.
Tumblr media
The same creative team would make two sequels. The second series focuses on Bane taking over New York City in the Turtles' universe while made even stronger from mutagen. It ends up taking the combined might of Batman, Splinter, and Shredder to take him down.
As of this writing, they're in the midst of a crossover story amazingly called "Crisis on a Half Shell," where the villain is Krang wearing the Anti-Monitor.
Tumblr media
The current story also features a team-up in there between the Mirage Turtles and a classic, smiling, blue-clad Batman. Everything about this is fantastic.
Yet there are even more TMNT/Batman crossovers out there. Matthew K. Manning and Jon Sommariva did a five-issue miniseries called Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures. This time it's the Turtles from the recent Nickelodeon show meeting up with Batman: The Animated Series.

In it, Mad Hatter creates portals into the Ninja Turtles' universe and sends a handful of Arkham villains there to cause trouble. This includes a stretch of time where Joker takes over the Foot Clan and goes around wearing Shredder's helmet. On the other hand, Shredder is able to overcome Joker gas via pure willpower and hatred towards Splinter.
Tumblr media
The comic even uses the crossover as an in-universe explanation for why Scarecrow changed up his look and became ultra-creepy for Adventures of Batman and Robin.
Inspired by these comic crossovers, an animated movie called Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released. The story is very much based on the first comic crossover with the mutant Arkham inmates and the team-up of Ra's al Ghul and Shredder, but the main difference is that they don't do the alternate universe gimmick. It plays it up like Batman and the Turtles have always existed in the same world but have been completely unaware of each other up to this point.
It's very much worth watching, especially for a spectacular Batman vs. Shredder fight early on. Shredder even enters the fight with the same slow-motion jump from the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie! I love it.

Despite all these Batman meet-ups, it still blew everyone away when NetherRealm Studios announced that all four Turtles would be playable in Injustice 2 as the final DLC release. Not only do they get to fight with the DC Universe (or a darker version of), but they also face the likes of Hellboy, Sub-Zero, and Raiden. Each Turtle has about a half hour's worth of dialogue with their opponents and there are tons of cute references in there. My favorite is a subtle Turtles in Time Easter egg where Michelangelo's skateboard has an apple-shaped sticker that says "BIG" and under it is a sticker saying "3AM."
Tumblr media
Their ending has Harley Quinn reward them for their help by giving them a pizza laced with the same chemical used in the game's "super pills," which allows street-level characters to go toe-to-toe with Superman. After ingesting this, the Turtles go back to their home dimension and absolutely crush Krang and Shredder with little issue.

So yeah, that's quite the rolodex of aquaintances.
Throughout the years, Leo and the rest have met up with everyone from the Mysterymen to Baby Kermit the Frog. With so many incarnations out there, it's like nothing is off-limits when it comes to teaming up with the Ninja Turtles. It's weirder to realize the properties they haven't crossed paths with yet, like Spider-Man or Predator.
Tumblr media
I mean, Michelangelo, Gandalf, Milhouse, and Shaquille O'Neal were Lego Master Builders that one time. That feels totally normal and makes perfect sense to me. It's just the kind of world we live in.

I was asked by the amazing @beckiboos! Thank you! <3
Which BTS song means the most to you?
I haven’t heard of them or listened to their music XD
How do you feel about astrology?
It’s fun and I love drawings of constellations/anything to do with stars in general, but I don’t think it works!
Do you think ghosts exist?
Yes. I actually had a problem with something paranormal for a few months which wasn’t fun so yeah.
What’s your favorite instrument?
Drums! The power, the beat and twirling drumsticks just ♥ only got to play a drumkit a few times in school. I was bad but I had fun!
Who was the last person to make you really smile?
@beckiboos just killed me with a beautiful pun-filled rendition in my inbox XD
Also just re-read @ronqueesha‘s snack cake story and lmao everyone should read it!
What do you do when you feel vulnerable?
Either run away or get very aggressive! XD
What is the last dream you had?
That I was a werewolf and some hunter abducted me because the Brotherhood of Steel had opened some conservation place for werewolves (actually training werewolf soldiers) and were offering a lot of money for them. He was driving along some beach road but the windows of the car were slightly down and he got soaked when huge waves broke on the road so I laughed at him and then at some point I made my daring escape when he stopped in traffic and went running up into wooded hillside as a wolf.  Overall it was a hilarious and inspiring dream XD
Are you a nature person?
Yes! If I’m burned out being somewhere wild really reinvigorates me!
What’s your favorite thing to do to relieve stress?
Find enemies in Fallout and go wild with the pain train C:
also playing with my pets - you can’t stay upset when a cat is running really quickly in circles or your dogs are wagging their tails!

Marvel, DC, or neither?
I’ll say DC for the batman games!
What do you want out of 2018?
Happiness and progression - I feel like I’ve stagnated half my life so I’d like to feel like I’m going somewhere!
Do you hold grudges?
“Hating someone is like drinking poison yourself and waiting for the other person to die” is a saying I live by so nope, no grudges! It achieves nothing but bad feeling and misery on your end, the other person doesn’t feel it so why bother?
Who is your favorite Disney hero/heroine?
Megara from Hercules and Mulan!
Do you consider yourself a positive person?
Most of the time though my family call me cynical and I do have some issues with anxiety and depression but yeah - usually I’m of a sunny disposition!
What is something you love that’s underrated?
Fallout 4 :3c also Rune Factory4! Seriously I need another game!
What is your dream job?
Working with animals or being an author who can live comfortably!

Somewhere green, beautiful and quiet where I could raise my future animals and goat herd in peace. :3
When was the last time you faced a fear and how did it go?
Sometimes I get painfully shy and dread even heading out, but I just made myself go do it. I got over it as I went!
Which would you prefer to read: poetry, fiction, or non-fiction?
Fiction - I want to escape and see what other worlds people create! I need to get out of this one sometimes XD
Where do you feel most at ease?
Out in wild places where I can’t hear people/cars etc!
