thinking about classic lit. What if you were all alone in the world, having lost your family to colonialism, and this white man decides to take you in and be almost like a father to you- But Not Really! because the distinction must be maintained that you are not One Of Them. you learn things. you learn that you are wild and that his people and family dont trust you because of who/what you are. and they are cruel to you because of it, because of something you cannot control! its in your nature! In which case, why ought'nt you be cruel to them in return? to yearn to take everything from them, as everything had been held from you, just in sight but never yours? The resentment festers in you. You use others - closer to them - to take your revenge. You think, this man could've been good to me once, but he hurt me, and so when i have the chance to return the favor, i will hurt him! and his daughter is almost collateral damage of this chain of hurt, this cycle of disdain and lashing out against others, all started by , lets be honest, racism. And what if (also possibly because of racism) you only had one name because not only have you lost your real family, you will never belong anywhere.
but at least Caliban isn't played predominantly by white actors in adaptations which perhaps badly misunderstand the original text, like Heathcliff played by jacob elordi in the upcoming-[muffled yelling as i am dragged off stage]

Bitch you ask for a headcanon I shall provide ya:
How well does the rest of the team do as petsitters for Trinket? Do they fail a lot or are these guys used to petsitting by now? Does Grog try to feed him ale?
Grog definitely tried to give him ale - once, before Vex all but chewed him out so hard he couldn’t look at her. Other than that if anyone even looks at Trinket he’s got his weapon out.
Scanlan refuses point blank to look after Trinket. He just does not like that bear. At all. For no reason. And the feeling is mutual.
Vax successfully sneaks ale to Trinket and Grog pouts about it. Vax is the second best pet sitter for Trinket, partially because the bear is part of his family but mainly because his sister scares him.
Percy and Trinket have a respect and understanding for each other. Trinket knows to be safe. Percy knows to let him do his thing. Vex loves them both.
Pike is sweet with Trinket but she smells like Scanlan and he is not a fan of that. So she has to bathe before she can look after him.
Then there’s Keyleth. Sweet, loving, Keyleth. I think Trinket has a softness for Keyleth, doing as he’s told the way he does with Vex. Sometimes she becomes a bear and they just sit together, other times she druidcrafts flowers to make into a crown for him.

I've been chewing on what fears the bg3 characters would be because I do that with almost every piece of media I like now.
Gale is the Beholding (hubris, pursuit of knowledge above all else, his ex can literally see everything he does in/with the Weave). You could make an argument for Desolation b/c of the orb but I think that's secondary. Wyll is the Hunt imo, but the Desolation works for him too- I think his situation is similar to that Hunter we meet whose name I'm forgetting, whose inciting incident has to do with the Dark. I thought the same thing about Karlach but I think she's Desolation instead of Hunt, both aesthetically and because she was actively betrayed and is, you know, dying. Shadowheart is the Dark. Halsin could honestly be the Lonely: he's pretty isolated from the people around him emotionally. An island unto himself etc etc. Lae'zel is the End imo. You'd think she'd be Hunt but End fits into Vlaakith's whole deal (victim of the End, avatar of the Hunt?). Astarion could be either the Buried (since that covers abuse as well, he was literally kept underground/out of the sunlight, etc etc) or the Hunt. I'm a bit undecided there. I don't know enough about Minthara to make a call on her and I don't want to just say Web because of Lolth. Slaughter, maybe? Since that fear covers war. Jaheira and Minsc are Hunt too, I think (there's a lot of Hunt but that comes with the territory when you're adventuring).
Gortash is Web and you cannot convince me otherwise. I think Orin is Slaughter but, honestly, Durge seems more associated with the Extinction to me because of Bhaal's end goal. The Desolation and the Lonely tag-teamed Ketheric's ass but he's an avatar of the End. Dame Aylin is an avatar of the Hunt, victim of the Dark, and Isobel is an avatar of the End a la the main End avatar we see (Oliver? I really need to re-listen...)
There's obviously a lot of overlap and bleed because there always is. I've been wanting to make art based off of this but it's not happening anytime soon so I figured I'd shout about it into the void a bit lol

idk if it's what kae tempest was thinking but the chorus of philoctetes absolutely should be a chorus of inhabitants of the island and all women-- because it's lemnos, the island where the women famously killed the entire male population a couple of generations before the trojan war. what does it mean that philoctetes is abandoned there, on that island?

My myth designs for Roblox aren't affiliated with any existing games (like Forsaken) unless I specifically tag them, by the way! :D No hate to those games, I love them all so much, but it's just for any confusion that may arise LOL - they're just my interpretations on the myths themselves :)

Monologue of the character Helena to Hermia, from William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a fantasy romantic comedy written in the 1590s, one of the earlier plays of his career and one of only a few with no prior literary or historical source for the plot
Expressions of same-sex affection can be found throughout Shakespeare’s sonnets and plays, including The Merchant of Venice, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Coriolanus, and Two Noble Kinsmen. However, the Renaissance did not have the modern concepts of sexual identity and sexual orientation that we have inherited from 19th- and early 20th-century theories of human sexuality and psychology. Hence nobody in this period would have conceived of themselves in terms of modern sexual categories such as heterosexual and homosexual, or gay and straight. The challenge in reading passages such as this is to understand the personal, social, and political significance of same-sex relationships in Renaissance culture without applying anachronistic labels or standards of judgment. In Renaissance England, intimate relationships between women were generally accepted as long as they did not interfere with the women’s conventional sexual and social duties: getting married, having children, maintaining chastity, and behaving in an appropriately feminine manner. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream and As You Like It, adolescent female friendships finally give way to the new bonds between husbands and wives that signal entry into adulthood. However, being married did not prevent adult women from maintaining or establishing affectionate intimacies with other women through relationships of friendship, patronage, or service.
—Annotation in Barnes and Noble Shakespeare’s edition of the play (the first edition I read when I was seventeen), edited by Mario DiGangi
