Okok don't know if it's already been asked but how the ROs act when jealous in crushing stage? (Maybe a short snippet? 😂) And if you want, do they act different when jealous but in relationship stage?
I think when they're already on a relationship stage, they're more cool-headed than on the crush stage. I mean, they're in a relationship with the MC so they feel some jealousy but nothing like in the crush stage where everything is still uncertain.
Caemon:
It was the third dance in a row.
With the same person.
Caemon noticed every detail of the interaction. From the body language of both of them to the way the MC smiled as their dance partner spoke
The princex seemed to be having fun and having an interesting conversation — a conversation Caemon wouldn't hear.
That would be a gross invasion of privacy and also terrifying
Terrifying to know the subject of the conversation especially if it involved a specific topic: The engagement season.
He knew the MC would marry whomever they wanted - and while recent events had given him the feeling of having a certain edge in this matter, he wasn't naïve to think it meant anything concrete. At least not yet.
And that wasn't something that made him comfortable.
When the dance was over, their current partner finally said their goodbyes and withdrew leaving the MC standing on the dance floor – alone and available.
Caemon didn't realize what he was doing until he was only a few steps away from the MC, his hand outstretched in a mute invitation.
The problem was that someone else seemed to have had the same idea and was already approaching the MC talking excitedly.
The MC seemed surprised by this and hesitated.
The hesitation hit Caemon with a stab in the chest, the blow causing him to retreat a step.
The taste of jealousy had a bitter taste in his mouth and he would rather die again than have to feel it again.
An almost comical expression crossed the MC's face as they moved a step closer to him, dismissing the other person with a polite nod.
They had chosen him.
When their hands finally touched, Caemon didn't know if he would be able to let them go when the end of the song came.
N:
As if it wasn't already extremely annoying to have their conversation interrupted by a third person, N still had to witness that person make quite clearly their interest in the MC.
That last part shouldn't make them so angry, so frustrated, so close to totally losing their cool.
It was almost vulgar to have to watch this scene without being able to intervene
After all, they had no right to ask this person to walk away and they couldn't tell the MC to do it either. The hybrid was just being polite - no indication of interest on their part had been detected by N.
Even then N couldn't stop the jealousy from poking at their skin in an uncomfortable and painful way
They had already felt many emotions but jealousy was new to them. They understood this concept, of course, but the experience of having to go through it was something else entirely.
And they would need time to learn how to deal with that emotion.
Until then, they would have to face it in silence, without letting anything appear in their gestures or their expression.
And especially without letting the MC know.
That would be the easiest, after all, they were already hiding something much bigger from the MC
Sostrate:
The feeling isn't exactly new to her.
But it's intrusive and confusing. She shouldn't be feeling this for them. It shouldn't be that way
As she watches the MC being openly courted by someone she begins to realize that maybe her game has gone too far, or worse, that maybe she's gotten caught up in her own web of feelings and intentions.
Maybe she got too close to the fire.
It was supposed to be just a joke: flirting with royalty, but now the consequences were burning her. And there was nothing she could do to escape that.
Because if she backs down now, it's going to mean losing any chance to change that game and destroy that feeling
And maybe..maybe be the only one the MC would want to flirt with.
"Okay then," she says to herself, unable to take her eyes off the scene, letting jealousy burn inside her. Because it's the only thing she can do right now. "I can fix that"
Theome:
"It's enough" the words came out of Theome's mouth before they could contain themselves.
How strange, usually they are controlled. Careful in how they behaved and what they said
But lately, when it comes to the MC, it's like they don't have control of anything anymore. The mere presence of their childhood friend seemed to have an overwhelming influence on aspects of Theome's life that they had not even imagined.
"Hmm?" Oh, the person looked at them now as if they was surprised to see Theome there, they must have forgotten everything while flirting with the MC right in front of Theome.
While trying to convince the Princex to join them in the next dance.
Theome felt their mouth dry. They had acted on impulse so they had no idea how to handle the situation now. Their words were the result of a moment of jealousy.
Jealous
They had felt jealous to see someone so interested in the MC, someone with the courage to demonstrate it openly and still invite them to a dance. Someone who could gain the attention and maybe even the heart of the MC.
Fear and jealousy.
"Theome?" That was the MC's voice calling them back to reality. "Do you want to go get some fresh air? Together?" There was anxiety and worry in their voice and it only made Theome even more aware of what they could lose if they didn't act soon
They couldn't speak yet, too caught up in the confusion of their thoughts and the feelings that seemed to drown them.
But a quick nod was given in response.
"I will have to refuse your request," the Princex informed their suitor in a polite but firm tone. "But I hope you enjoy your time here."
The MC's suitor stood in the middle of the hall, staring as they both walked away.
Meanwhile, the MC guided Theome towards the gardens calmly, their hand barely touching their friend's arm.
This time the MC had chosen them. But how long would it stay that way?
Tba:
Stand still. Being invisible. Follow orders. Pretending they're just part of something mundane.
It's easy for them to play around with it but not when they're being challenged – not directly or purposefully of course, no one would be so stupid to do that
But that doesn't change anything.
Not when their MC is being the target of what is obviously a pathetic attempt to be seduced.
Normally they wouldn't use their powers so close to the MC, it would be too risky, but they need to end it
Allowing someone to think they can behave this way with something that is theirs is simply unacceptable.
But they're going to have to be discreet — at least for now.
So they use only a fraction of what they have to send a clear and direct message.
Stay away from them now
Only five words but surrounded by an intense feeling of violent oppression and a clear promise of blood if the order is not complied with immediately.
They watch the once charming and expectant face of the poor creature turn into a grimace of fear and anxiety.
A desperate look around
They don't even bother to end the conversation properly before turning around and stumbling toward the door.
Rude.
For a whole second their beloved MC doesn't react, but then, they turns to them, well, not exactly to them, but their gazes cross for a moment.
They seem confused and suspicious.
Of course, they must have felt something.
It was necessary, dear, no one is going to stand in our way.

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
ne for þis caemon wē to kaamelott!
Tumblr media
bet us geriht nu!
Tumblr media
wuldor = prestige

Zevril Academy
I figure the best way to get these rpg blogs started again is to report on our current campaign, so here we go! I am currently running a campaign called Zevril Academy, telling the story of a group of students at a prestigious international academy of magic, combat, and leadership. We’re actually pretty far into the game, approaching the end of the second semester arc, but I will do my best over a series of posts to get all you wonderful people caught up. The campaign’s player characters are:
Caemon, an individual actually composed of two kobold incanters, Estis and Estris, in a large cloak
Nano, a wyvaran conscript, an ex-pirate with a gambling addiction. appreciates a good fight. is very gay.
Cashmere Silentcleaver, a human paladin, the son of notorious warlord Dreadlord Silentcleaver who wants to escape his mother’s bloodstained legacy
Repsaj Nirab: daughter of a famous adventurer with a penchant for cooking and caring for her friends. the responsible one. also currently retired as a PC.
Dellis Never: a strix thaumaturge with a keen, investigative spirit and a specialization in destruction magic.
Syllara: a wood elf magus, an ex-bandit coerced into becoming a royal knight and an expert archer. takes her circumstances seriously, but has an unpredictable chaotic streak as well.
I’ll post summaries of the game up to this point, and possibly some fun campaign moments or character spotlights as well soon.

oh dunk I finished more NPCs and forgot to post them
these are actually HotDQ book characters-- Miresella and Caemon, who I'm giving slightly larger roles to. They were a bit more roughed up at their first appearance, but I didn’t feel like drawing all the ow.
the players have since given them armor, but if I make them recur it’ll probably be different armor anyway.

How would the Ro's react to a classic fakeout out kiss. IE where the MC leans towards as if to kiss them but at the last minute it turns out they were actually just grabbing something off a shelf behind them.
Caemon: He would watch the MC with curious interest. Not really believing that the MC would have the courage to take the first step and break the tension that was already building up between them. When the MC walked away with an object in their hands, not even seeming to notice his presence there, he would wonder if he had misunderstood their intentions or if the MC had just made one more move to intensify the situation between them
N: Error. Error. N's mind would go blank. They wouldn't quite know how to act or what to think. Do they want the MC to kiss them? Yes. Yes? Since when? It would make them so engrossed in thinking that they wouldn't even notice the MC walking away with a book in their hands
Sostrate: She would be perplexed at first, but totally excited for the kiss to happen, seeing that this was not the MC's real intention, she would feel frustration, but also the certainty that maybe she would have to take the first step for this to happen for real
Theome: Honestly, they would just stare at the MC with a mesmerized air. Their mind already wondering what it would be like when the MC's lips finally touched theirs... The spell would be broken when Theome saw that they had just misinterpreted the act. Oh, well... maybe one day the MC would finally approach them for a kiss. If they built up the courage to talk about their feelings for the heir, of course.

Caedmon’s Hymn, according to legend, was the first piece of poetry in the English language.
The difficulty was trying to figure out what the heck Caedmon was actually saying. I mean, when you read it, the meaning just kind of washes over you. It’s when you sit down to diagram it that you go, “Wait. Which verb does this word go with??”
And then of course there’s the last sentence. Caemon, I think THREE appositives for the same subject are a BIT much. Just sayin’.

Guys, I have some news for you! I made some new characters (Caemon and Stacy already existed) for some Gacha stories that I'm planning to make! Caemon: a mysterious boy who is trying to find his purpose in life within his friendships Stacy: a girl who can easily get in another mood, it is best to try to stay on her good side Maya: Caemon's loyal but extremely shy pet, Maya has deep feelings for her master and hopes that he would feel the same way Aisha: an extremely popular teen model, she's not in a relationship, but she has amazing experience in flirtation Mei: a student who is really loyal to all of her teachers, she's extremely nerdy but highly intelligent, her brain could probably calculate faster than a supercomputer Kurumi: a girl who loves to wear really dark clothing, she has a passion for art, she looks mean, but she's actually really sweet Xabia: a girl who loves to play videogames for a living, she'd talk about her favorite games the most with all of her friends, she'd even explain her own personal theories to storylines Freya: Xabia's older sister, she's extremely athletic and strong, nobody around her wouldn't want to mess with her #monika #friskafist #anime #instagood #instadaily #gachatubers #gachatuber #gachaverse #gachastudio #gachalife #youtube #youtuber #photoshop #chibianime #chibiddlc #justmonika #dokisquad #bloodfestplays #flintpelt #undertale #magic #undertalesouls #genderbender #genderbend (at Fayetteville, Arkansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/Byr3e1fhTsL/?igshid=x84t16z64bx8

Chuck’s life has been the farthest thing from normal, bound by his privileged family—most especially his parents, with relief in the form of his unconventional grandmother. Chuck—Charles Philippe, technically, was born in the autumn of 1989 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. The hospital was chosen by his grandmother for her daughter-in-law not for the top-notch medical care or excellent doctors, but because of the deluxe private suite with a view of Central Park. Chuck’s birth was unremarkable: he came quick and effortlessly according to his grandmother, though his mother claimed otherwise and had her tubes tied following the birth. Otherwise, everything went swimmingly. Chuck’s grandparents, most especially his grandmother took an immediate shining to their grandson. Though his grandmother had picked out his name, she soon settled on a nickname that he would go by for the rest of his life: Chuck.
Chuck was born into an small family—aside from his parents, there was his grandmother and grandfather, the domineering figures of the family. Chuck’s parents were around, but weren’t exactly present or necessarily involved in the minutiae of raising Chuck, preferring to handle things the way their own parents had: with a nanny. Aside from the help, Chuck’s grandparents were heavily involved in raising him: most especially his grandmother, who doted on Chuck . Perhaps she was seeking to correct the wrongs made with his own son, Chuck’s father: but regardless, Chuck looked up to his grandmother and loved her perhaps more than anyone else. She encouraged him to be wild and free, and offered him an outlet to be just that: a child, relieving him of the restrictions of a conventional childhood. Chuck’s childhood was somewhat lonely; he was an only child and only saw his cousins, on his mother’s side, occasionally. But he always remembered being happy and content. Though Chuck was born into a family with money, he really isn’t the type of obsess about it—it has always been something that has been there for him and he is grateful for that, but he still wants to have his own life and his own successes, instead of relying on something that has been given to him. He hates the idea of a handout and always has, as his grandparents have always stressed that he be independent as possible.
The Weygands were very affluent, based in Hempstead—a small town on Long Island. His family also maintained a residence in Manhattan, in the city, where his father worked and his mother socialized. Chuck’s father, Presley Weygand, was an investment banker who worked for Credit Suisse, while Chuck’s mother, Caroline, belonged to an equally affluent family: a scion of the Fairfaxes, a first family of Virginia. Having won Miss Virginia in her youth, Caroline was signed to Wilhelmina Models in the early eighties, but was more well known in celebutante circles for her fast living and outrageous fashion sense. While many were surprised when she captured Presley’s heart, Caroline easily made a stunning transition from club-goer to society hostess. The story of Chuck’s parents, however—was just a warm up to that of the family’s Matriarch—Diana Weygand, born as Diana Berenberg into a Hanseatic family in Hamburg, she had been a socialite in her youth and had inherited a fortune from her father as a young child, who had made a massive success as a grain broker, cornering the Argentine wheat market and making four million dollars in the process. Diana lead a colorful life, and she eventually met and married her husband, Albert Weygand, a globetrotting game hunter who belonged to an old and prestigious Belgian noble family, in 1946. It was a marriage of convenience: Albert provided social respectability, while Diana had money. Nevertheless, they managed to make their marriage work, settling in post-war Paris briefly before finally settling in New York in 1950, where Albert took up work as a sales representative for the Olin Corporation. While Chuck’s grandfather was a conventional man who enjoyed regaling Chuck with tales of his game hunting—his grandmother was not. Diana was an eccentric who loved music, and in her later years lived like a queen who was often confined to her bed. Both of his grandparents had their issues—they both loved to drink, and his grandmother was on numerous medications for a variety of ailments, but nevertheless he adored the both of them. While Chuck had a warm relationship with his grandparents, the relationship with his mother and father was much more distant. Though at times Chuck’s mother could be capable of warmth, and his father could crack a mean joke, it seemed that Chuck’s parents were wholly unequipped to deal with their son in a genuine way: his a check-mark on the list of things needed for their perfect life, but nothing more.
Because of his parents disinterest in raising their own child, Chuck spent a great deal of time at his grandparents. Aside from extended summer vacations at their home, he also spent the weekends with them, and his grandparents also often made great strides to pop down to Hempstead and the city during the week to check up on Chuck, giving him a bit of normality in his otherwise chaotic life. His grandfather often took Chuck outdoors, encouraging him to take an interest in nature and teaching him how to shoot. It was Diana who ignited Chuck’s first great passion—the piano. Having learned how to play in her youth, as any well-rounded high society belle, she began to teach Chuck what she knew as an amateur player. Chuck was amazed by the piano the very moment he started playing, and his grandmother and grandfather took great pride in watching him play and arranged for lessons with a private tutor. They wanted nothing more than to see their grandson, the apple of their eye, succeed at whatever they wanted to do. Chuck loved music, but most especially he loved playing it. It let him leave behind the sometimes lonely life with his distant parents and forget about everything else that troubled him. While it was his grandmother who encouraged his musical passions, it was both of his grandparents who began Chuck’s interest in photography. Chuck often spent hours pouring over old photo albums with the two of his grandparents filled with pictures of Albert as a smiling young man hunting in exotic locales in Asia and Africa, Diana as a pouting debutante, and numerous other scenes depicting their lives both before and after the Second World War. On his eighth birthday, Chuck’s grandfather bought him his first camera and encouraged him to begin photographing his own life. While it began as a hobby and something fun to do with his grandparents, photography would eventually turn into Chuck’s second passion.
Chuck loved to take pictures, but the piano was what he loved most. Music kept Chuck going, and is what encouraged to keep trying. He took his musical lessons studiously, and while he primarily learned the classical works, in his private time he enjoyed branching out into other music too. Music was Chuck’s anchor throughout his school years, where he attended the Caemon School, and later the Beekman School. Chuck didn’t have the easiest time in school—though he could be extremely charismatic and had little issue making friends or keeping people interested, he sometimes struggled with his school work and focusing. But no matter what difficulties Chuck had, he knew he could rely on his love for the piano; it was his greatest love and what he poured all of his focus on. Indeed, from a young age Chuck had decided that he wanted to play piano professionally, and his grandmother definitely encouraged it. Despite the great love Chuck had for music, it didn’t mean that his life wasn’t difficult. The most tragedy in his life occurred when he was twelve, when his grandfather finally passed away. He hadn’t been in the greatest health, and the last year of his life had been especially difficult. Chuck took his grandfather’s death hard—while he was always much closer to his grandmother, he had still had a special relationship with his grandfather. Chuck became more immersed in music in the wake of his grandfather’s passing, often practicing for hours at a time. When he wasn’t practicing, he was listening, his music tastes widening in the period to include alternative and punk acts. Chuck was drawn to music that helped him work through the feelings he felt in the wake of his grandfather’s death. While he still had his grandmother, he still felt as if he had lost a large figure in his life—and he had. While music took up most of his time, he continued to take a heavy interest in photography, as it helped him feel close to his grandfather.
As Chuck grew into a teenager, things only became more complicated. While he had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth and could materially want for nothing, he didn’t mean that his life wasn’t a roller coaster otherwise. His relationship with his parents remained distant and formal; even the loss of his grandfather didn’t bring Chuck closer to his parents. If anything, it widened the gap. He spent more time at his grandmother’s when possible, and she in turn made more of an effort to come down to Hempstead and into Manhattan to be with Chuck, though given her increasing health issues often kept her confined to Newport. Chuck was mostly on his own from this point on, a practical latchkey kid, albeit one with a disposable income. Chuck pressed his boundaries as a teenager, trying to discover who he really was: that included things such as going to parties, having his first drink, sneaking out—though he didn’t necessarily have to sneak out. Chuck had a wide range of friends, from preppy players who lived on the East Side, to public school punks who hung out at skateparks. Chuck enjoyed hanging around the alternative crowd, and he often went to underground concerts and shows when he could. He loved being around people who enjoyed him for him, where money and your name didn’t matter. Chuck grew closer to these groups of friends, and would cultivate friendships that would last his entire life. While Chuck didn’t rebel to catch his parent’s attention, it was always quite needy for attention and affection from others—and often it sought it out in turn. Chuck’s group of friends moved quick and fast, and Chuck was introduced to sex early on in his high school career, even if he wasn’t having it himself. Not that he didn’t want too, and not that girls didn’t try—but they weren’t who he wanted. Chuck realized that he was into guys. It took him time to come to terms with it, but he eventually ended coming out his sophomore year, his grandmother being the first person she confided in. She handled it well, while his parents brushed it off with their usual indifference. Chuck has definitely always been a physical person, and the attention that he often wanted, he sought it out physically. He has had his share of relationships, but he tends to believe that romance needs to come hand in hand with realism. While Chuck can be promiscuous and has little shame in casual hookups, deep down he does hope to find someone that he can share the rest of his life with.
When Chuck turned seventeen, his world as he knew it came crashing down. His grandmother’s health had declined as he had gotten older, and her health issues became more grave. One evening, she collapsed at her home in Newport and was rushed to the emergency room. A hypochondriac for most of her life who had always complained of being in pain, she was diagnosed with advanced and inoperable bone cancer. Diana had little idea what to do now that she was actually in pain, but it didn’t matter. Sent home under hospice, the main goal was to keep Chuck’s grandmother comfortable. After several weeks of agony, she passed away at her Newport mansion. Upon her death, a great portion of her wealth was donated to various charities and foundations that she believed in. The trust fund that had been established for Chuck when he had been born was also further augmented. He would receive a modest stipend per month, with a portion of the fund to be granted to him at age twenty-five, and the full amount of the trust come into his possession at age thirty, with funds already earmarked to be put towards his education. Chuck’s father received the majority bequest—the Newport mansion, and the remainder of the Weygand wealth that hadn’t been earmarked for philanthropy, something which didn’t sit well with his father. Still, the majority of what remained of the Weygand wealth and capital would be tied up in trusts that would be untouchable until Chuck himself died. The death of his grandmother tore Chuck to pieces, and was even worse than losing his grandfather. His grandmother had been his true parent and practical parent, and been his rock and always believed in him. Before she passed away, she told Chuck to ‘Always be proud of who he was.’ That is what Chuck tried to do. He poured himself into his music, trying to brush off the sorrow he felt by focusing on his upcoming recitals: he knew that soon he would be playing before people that might determine which college he got into, and he wanted to be prepared. Wanting to pursue playing professionally, he threw himself into his practices with everything that he could muster, and there were days and nights where he worked his fingers to the bone, trying to perfect some of the most complex pieces he had ever attempted. While he worked on perfecting his skills, Chuck began to feel a nagging pain in his arm in his wrist. He tried to brush it off, but it continued for several weeks until he finally decided to see a doctor. The results were crushing: he had tendinitis, an inflammation in his wrist. He was prescribed anti-inflammatory medications and put on rest, but when Chuck met with his musical director he was hit with an even harder fact: if he wanted to keep playing, he would need to retain his form. Chuck was talented—very talented. But his piano form was imperfect, and had caused this injury. If he didn’t relearn how to play the piano from the very beginning, he risked injuring his hand again—or worse, causing it to develop into a chronic form of tendinosis. With one sentence, Chuck felt eleven years of musical training along with his dreams flushed down the toilet. Chuck tried his hardest to work with his director, but the pain remained and starting over the beginning was frustrating. Chuck knew he could never relearn everything in time, and in his arrogance he believed he didn’t need to retrain his form. When he went ahead with one of his recitals and had to quit mid-performance because of the intense pain, Chuck felt his dreams dashed up against the rocks. He gave it all up, and even quit playing piano for awhile. On top of his grandmother’s death, Chuck felt himself slip into a short spiral. He filled his nights with partying, drinks, and as much sex as he could get. It gave him relief from the pain and emptiness in his life, but it wasn’t a permanent fix. Chuck couldn’t keep living like this: it pained him, and it pained him more to imagine what his grandma might think. He did his best to get back on track, although he still had bouts of self destructive behavior. He fought recovery through a hobby his grandfather had introduced him too: photography.
In his last year of high school, Chuck decided to focus more on his photography. He tentatively picked up playing the piano again, but only privately and he refused to consider retraining his form or making an attempt at going before another admissions board. Besides, he had thrown away the prior year on self indulgence and would make correcting his piano playing even more difficult. He gave up any hope of playing professionally, as much as it hurt him to think about it. His hand still remained an issue. Though he didn’t play nonstop anymore, it still occasionally ached and caused him pain, but he managed to power through it. His final year in school flew by, and Chuck graduated from the Beekman School, though it seemed empty without his grandmother there to see it, though his parents did manage to show up. In the wake of his grandmother’s death, Chuck had tried his best to reevaluate his relationship with his parents. While it was rocky and he still bore some resentments towards them not being fully around, he could at least understand in a way why they acted the way they did—the pressure his father felt at work to be a high achiever, and the financial resentment towards Chuck’s grandmother, to the anxieties of being a high society hostess that his mother sought to drown with psychiatry—in the same way his grandmother had. After his graduation, Chuck was aimless. He had no clue what he wanted to really do with his life. He wasn’t at all prepared to go to college, and chose to take gap year. Instead of staying in Hempstead, the city, or wandering the world with his trust fund, he decided to stay up in Newport at his grandmother’s home. The mansion wasn’t in awesome shape—there was no staff and his dad was wanting to sell it, seeing it as a White Elephant that would bleed the family dry. Compared to the heyday when his grandmother had been the doyenne of Newport society, her home was now a total wreck. Using the monthly stipend from his trust to support himself, Chuck devoted his gap year to his photography. He photographed things within the home, what would eventually become his first coffee table book called ‘The Fall’ which featured the decay in his grandmother’s magnificent home; dust, broken things, the ruined garden, and most famously—her immaculate bedroom, messy and untouched since she last left it, bottles and bottles of prescription pills on the night stand. The book was published by a small indie company and was Chuck’s first real accomplishment. Although this was a time of reflection for Chuck it was also time where the devil played. Chuck often had fun pilfering through the well stocked liquor cabinet, and sometimes even threw large parties where he invited anyone who was willing to come. Occasionally he went out to find a companion for the evening— these were the nights often fueled by alcohol and whatever else could be found laying around the old manse. Other days were less disturbing, where Chuck simply played the piano for hours, enduring the pain to play great works by Saint-Saën, Rachmaninoff, and Wagner.
Chuck spent around a year and a half in Newport. His book was published thanks to a connection who’s father own the publishing company, but it did encourage Chuck to think more about taking his photography seriously, especially when the first check from the publisher came in. He liked having the feeling of having made his own money, not relying on the monthly deposit thanks to his grandmother’s generosity. He had enjoyed his time off, but he didn’t want to live his life like a leech. He decided he was ready to go back to school, and he applied for NYU, wanting to attend the Tisch School of the Art’s photography program. When he returned to New York, he submitted his portfolio: various shots from The Fall, along with a photo series of older women of his grandmother’s generation in Newport that he termed 'The Merry Widows of Newport.’ He ended up securing a spot without a problem and enrolled for the fall semester in 2009. Chuck loved going to college, and he became even more involved in his photography, taking pictures for the college newspaper. Chuck was heavily involved in college life in other ways, pledging to Delta Lambda Phi which he eventually served as treasurer in. When Chuck graduated in 2013, he found work at a photography studio in Brooklyn. The work was rather mundane by most standards—Chuck did not enjoy taking family portraits, or shooting scenery. He longed to capture something real and visceral, much like his work of around his grandmother’s home. It paid his bills, but it wasn’t the same as creating his own content and publishing it. He longed to get back out into the field.
While working at the studio, Chuck came into contact with the woman who would become his mentor, Sharon Wetz. Wetz was a Denver based photojournalist who often worked for high profile news outlets like the New York Times, and was renowned for her conflict photography. Sharon had stumbled into the studio simply to look at some of the work on display with the little bit of free time she had, and Chuck ended up striking a conversation up with her. Chuck had more in common with her than he thought, and immediately became enthralled when she told him stories of some of the work she had done. They established contact, often communicating by email. It didn’t take long for Wetz to discover Chuck’s work, from his old photobook. Heavily impressed, she told him what he already knew: that he wasn’t going to get anywhere working at a studio in Brooklyn. Instead, she pitched him a radical offer: come out to Denver and work as her photography assistant. Chuck didn’t have to be convinced. He quit his job the same day and booked the first flight out to Denver that he could arrange. Chuck arrived in Denver completely new to the area, but he managed to find a nice studio apartment and quickly went to work with Sharon. Under her aegis Chuck saw a whole new life to photography—it wasn’t just about capturing the niceties of domestic life: there was something else to be grabbed at as well. Under Wetz, Chuck went abroad on several trips—including several stints in northern Iraq where the carnage left behind in the wake of ISIS was photographed, a series documenting the severe situation in Xinjiang province in China after a major earthquake, to how things were beginning to change for the better in the frontiers of Afghanistan where the Taliban once reigned unchecked. Chuck had finally found what his true passion was in regards to taking pictures. He wanted to see the world, to take pictures of reality. He wanted to show how things changed—sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse.
Chuck served with Wetz for a little under two years, but they were more important than all the time he’d spent shooting on his own and in school combined. It opened doors that Chuck didn’t know existed, and his portfolio expanded to include a variety of awesome shots from his foreign trips. In 2015 Chuck began to branch out on his own, gaining freelance work based on his own merit. It wasn’t quite the same caliber of work he had done with Wetz: he documented the migrant crisis in Europe, and changes in Cuba following the death of Fidel Castro. But regardless, it was his work, that he had received and covered on his own, and nothing could have made him prouder. These accomplishments helped him land a position with the Denver Post to work as a conflict photographer with foreign and war correspondents. Chuck grew to embrace Denver during his time there, and his circle of friends expanded as well, to include a wide variety of people. Chuck loved the line of work he had gotten into, as it truly made him feel like he was making a difference, and it was what he truly wanted to do with his life. He decided that Denver was definitely the place for him, and decided to make the move into Queen’s Apartments in order to have more space. While he has his work with the Denver Post, Chuck continues to take in freelance assignments as they come, and is often loaned out to various papers and outlets when someone is needed to cover particularly turbulent areas. Chuck is looking ahead to everything with great excitement, and despite receiving a portion of his inheritance in 2014, he’s working harder than ever and even has plans to open up his own photography studio sometime in the future.
