It was a shadow against the rough gray brick wall, in the light of scant traffic, now and then it faintly illuminated its outline and diminished in frequency as the hours cut into the night.

In the darkness, past two in the morning, only an almost tiny point of hot orange ember broke the pitch. He smoked while waiting for the poor soul he was supposed to kill.

An ironic snort, rich and deeply low, left his lips with acid humor - Poor soul...the soul was a thief, gang boss, done more shit and victims than his executioner could ever dream of. And tonight they would be his victim and dinner - He would still earn extra money for his death. But, according to his 4-month stalking, this guy was supposed to have passed the alley half an hour ago, he didn't want to have to keep the bucket hidden for a long time in the abandoned house adjacent to the alley where the job would be finished - in that region even aluminium was coveted to get some money and he only had that one.

But did he have another option? No, he didn't. He was hungry. Caim took another drag on his cigarette, blind to that darkness, imagined the smoke leaving his lips, fading and merging with the night.

He waited.

.:OOC「 I've been scarce. I apologize. My muse for Caim has somewhat waned since my better laptop stopped working (Because of this, I haven't been able to play Drakengard and keep my inspiration high. Videos don't help after playing it for myself.) I've also been dragged into another game but I'm not going to roleplay for it. The player base scares me, I don't even want to imagine the RP scene if there even is a legit one. And other than that, I feel like it's probably better for me to keep distance from the dash since Final Fantasy XVI was released recently and as someone that can't play it and wants to, I don't wanna get tempted by imagery or talk and spoil myself. Caim is a 21+, MeWe based, supernatural & slice of life! au, literate roleplay. Loosely inspired by the Hotel Del Luna series, it runs as a  Seoul based hotel, that tries to help their guests move on. Key word: tries. Whether it's some sort of grudge, or just a need to spend one more night in the banquet hall, some guests simply refuse to leave. Our members, as the staff, have to do their best to simultaneously fulfil their hotel duties and reap / guide a soul or two to the light. A task far more arduous when the staff themselves are dealing with their own grudges and curses.

War raged ever onwards between the Empire and the Union, but what befell the Faerie Village was decidedly not. This wasn’t carefully planned tactics at work, nor had honor been involved. Only brutality- Dogs tearing at each other to slake some frenzied hunger for blood. 

As a steward of the forest, it was his duty to protect those who dwelled beneath it’s boughs, but one mortal alone is nothing against the might of hundreds. As he cradled the cold body of his murdered sister to his breast, it was like something inside of him had cracked through the shell of his psyche. Not broken, but freed. Chains drawn taut, bolts to the wall loosening until they SNAPPED.

Perhaps it was the feral cry that left his lips, stained crimson from where he’d torn out the throat of an imperial, that attracted Hati. Whatever the reason, the Great Mother of Wolves had roused and sought out Fleuret like she was following the plaintive mewls of her offspring.

Pact partner, mother, goddess...

It was difficult to pin down the exact way that Ravus saw Hati, but the nature in which the direwolf nuzzled him and reacted to perceived threats was certainly that of a violently protective parent.

Slashes and sprays of red had stained the pure white of his vestments, fine and sumptuous fabrics now heavy with vitae from their slaughter. Ravus himself was on one knee, leaning heavily against the sabre he’d pierced the earthy loam beneath his feet with. Breathing heavily from the exertion of the killing frenzy he’d taken part in, it’s only the beating of massive wings that makes him pause ad raise his visage skyward.

Hati’s hackles bristled as stiff as that of a broom, baring oversized fangs as she leapt in front of her ‘child’. Her tail wasn’t straight or flared up like wind-whipped banner, but curled halfway between her hind legs.

Despite her aggressive display, Hati was scared. And if Hati was scared, then there had to be good reason for that.

“A red dragon,” he mused aloud as Angelus landed nearby, Ravus’ icy blue eyes then shifting to the other human dismounting the massive creature. 

“Leave now. There is no more sport to be had here. Unless you’ve come to avenge your fellow soldiers?” he questions, raising the curved blade of his sword.

“well if i were to be honest my lord,” as they asked ( or told might be a more truthful word ) the demon to be, “i would say the idea is quite stupid.” it was needless, in his eyes, but even for caim - the originator of murder - such honest words were far out of place. “if you were to do such a thing you would lose many followers.”

Caim swatted Andre's hand away as he reached over in an attempt to pluck a sweet off her tray.

"I told you to go get your own," she said, narrowing her eyes at him as he pouted.

"Haven't you ever heard of sharing?"

"Haven't you heard of getting off your pampered ass to get your own?" She had to refrain from rolling her eyes as he sighed dramatically.

"You are so cruel to me, but have it your way." As he made to stand, Andrealphus spotted a familiar figure not too far from their table. Even though she wore a mask, he would know those fox ears anywhere.

Caim, having followed his gaze, couldn't help but smile. "Jillian~! Finally some good company~" Her smile turned into a smirk as she felt the marquis's glare under her mask.

Caim got out of the little box that grumpy Jenny called the library office carrying a pretty impressive stack of books, followed by the fish-brained Lily - Jenny’s niece - chattering some superficial insulting bullshit in a vain attempt of trying to make out with him later.

Little talk Caim half ignored, nodding when he thought he should, just to be polite.

Frankly, didn’t she notice he didn’t have any interest and was quite busy at the moment?

And then as he finally reached the counter, turning his side to interject her, the librarian met the flash of iridescent eyes across the hall, inhumanly bright ones, stopping mid sentence all of sudden from an answer he was giving - he did not even remember exactly what it was about.

This was an unexpected situation. The blood drinker was taller than him, long golden hair matching perfectly with an unusually expressive, beautiful and too bright eyes, regal posture. A shiver passed through his spine, his self-defense, red alert tried to warn him of possible danger, mixed with the excitement of meeting another - Fuck! …the-they seemed..not animalistic and uncivilized…he seemed like.. him..perhaps the lights deceived his brain, he was seeing things, this sensation in his guts could be wrong…but the more he gazed the other… And then the silent moment was broken when Lily opened her mouth to question Caim once more.

“Are you gay?”

Caim's blue eyes went wide as he was brought back by such a question and his cheeks burnt embarrassed, flickering his gaze at the woman with dagger eyes,the prejudice in her voice unwelcoming.

He was probably staring at the guy and openmouthed like an idiot!

“No, I- ” And then the bridge between his eyebrows furrowed.

Why was he explaining himself to her?

Then he shook his head slightly, passing part of the book stack to Lily’s hand almost too absentmindedly - his mind was completely taken by the moment.

“...Now, do something useful and put this back on the shelves, use the time to read some real interesting content for once. Now.”

Lily just stab-glared at him before leaving.

Caim cleared his throat, gazing at the ground of the library in front of his feet silently.

...sorry for that….no, maybe…

He swayed subtly in his own feet as he spoke to himself, trying to find balance again, as he thought, trying to find words to speak with…how should he start this, should he?

... It is not always that someone like you appears in this area…- if any at all and-

All words fled from his mind and lips equally, like they never existed, his bad boy posture was undone, he fell disarmed in the instant his large cerulean hues unable to avoid giving another glance to… - and as suddenly all the world disappeared, all sounds were muted, reddish pink lips were slightly open once again - He simply felt unable to unglue his eyes from the ones of that man, terrified to death and curious and, shit, he felt adrenaline and fear running inside of him, eating away each one of his cells. Eyes fixed like a prey trying to calculate the predator’s next step, like some toddler distracted and fascinated by bright coloured paper in the Christmas tree for the first time- and he didn’t know which sensation of those he hated more.

He hated how weak he was and how vulnerable he felt. Where was his fucking great acting now, his bad boy aura of danger, his… he was unable to conjure any of that now and, although he didn’t ever have the memory of innocence or being a child, he damn well felt like one, and well, it did felt like shit. Ignorance tasted like death.
