Cains Brewery Village. Lomo LC-A. Konica Chrome R-100 (shot at 50 iso. Developed at 100.)
When plans to revive the Cains Brewery site on Stanhope Street where first mooted they included an "arthouse" cinema and a hotel. Nowadays it is mainly bars and food outlets.
In the early days there were some small bars with character and charm. These were quickly crowded out by bigger bars designed to get full of drunken revellers.

The Coburg
This Pub seems to have stood the test of time, and development. I understand it was slated for flats 7-8 years ago and skirted closure, but hung on. It's a calm, non-descript, easy going place at the corner of Stanhope and high rises, lol. Sandwiched in between the Marina, and Cains Brewery Village, you can enter, slow down and chat with the locals. Most often, I come across fellas from road work, or construction as patrons. There is no music, so say hiya why dontcha? In the winter, the fire is usually on and the feel really improves with that warmth and steamed window panes. When the sun shines, the benches outside are a nice asset. I like to pull up with my bike in the summer. This pub has one thing I really really like, Theakston Dark Mild; quite possibly my favorite beer! Brewed out of North Yorkshire. Think Guinness lite. Not quite as dense and filling, but similar taste and a bit mellower. At 3.5 ABV, you can have a few and not get squiffy at all. As far as the Coburg, there's not a lot of gloss and sparkle, but there appears to be plenty of folks who like it that way.

Chas spots Al and clocks Aaron's handy work in the form of Al's bruised and battered face and is shocked Aaron had hit him! (Really Chas!).
As Aaron arrives to see his Granny, Chas collars Aaron and using the excuse he wants to speak to him about Liv in front of her mum and Cain pulls him out of the room.
Chas lectures Aaron about hitting Al, Aaron is unsurprisingly unrepentant about his actions Aaron questions why it's such a big deal he doesn't appreciate the strength of her feelings for him, Chas covers replying she's concerned about Aaron getting himself arrested Aaron's confident that Al's not likely to call the police.
As they talk some more Chas gets a message which she claims is from the brewery Aaron is skeptical but goes back into the back room with his grandmother.

“Goodbye God, I’m going to Bodie!”
In 1859, gold was discovered in the hills north of Mono Lake and the town of Bodie was born. Because of its isolation on the eastern side of the Sierras, far from any mountain pass, Bodie grew slowly. Then came the big silver and gold strikes of 1877, and the rush was on. Soon the bitter adage, “Goodbye God, I’m going to Bodie,” coined by a young girl confiding to her diary as her family prepared to move, was heard all over the country.
Bodie’s population had exploded to 10,000 by 1879, making it one of the largest cities in California. At its peak, this bustling Wild West metropolis boasted over 2,000 buildings, including seven breweries, more than sixty saloons, a red-light district, and even a Chinatown complete with opium dens. Bodie was wild. The hard climate (temperatures in the 100s during the summer and twenty feet of snow in the winter) brought in hard people. The volatile atmosphere of money, gold, and liquor meant that murders were a daily occurrence. Bodie had the dubious reputation of being one of the roughest town in the Old West, and that’s saying something.
Like a thousand other boomtowns, Bodie’s glory days were short lived. By 1881, the mines began to play out, and Bodie slipped into a long decline. In 1892, a massive fire destroyed half of the tinderbox town in a single day, and in 1932, a toddler playing with matches started a second big fire, which claimed many of the remaining structures. The entire town was eventually bought by local merchant and banker J.S. Cain, but by World War II, Bodie was essentially dead. Empty and untouched for decades, its abandoned buildings were protected by Cain’s full-time, live-in caretakers until 1962, when Bodie became a State Historic Park.
At one time, hundreds of late-nineteenth-century mining boomtowns were scattered all over the West. Most are gone: burned down by vandals, ravaged by antiques collectors, and dismantled by salvage operations. However, thanks to Cain’s caretakers, Bodie is the best-preserved, most authentic mining ghost town in the American West. Nearly two hundred buildings, “held in a state of arrested decay,” are filled with dust-covered merchandise and forgotten, untouched since the 1940s.
On my first trip to Bodie, during a family vacation in 1973, the place was still more or less deserted. We could drive right into the center of town and park. It was mind-boggling to stand quietly among the elegantly weathered buildings. You could feel time grind to a halt as the wind blew tumbleweeds down Main Street. It was untouched and perfect, a ghost-town hunter’s dream. Unfortunately, that’s no longer true. Today Bodie swarms with tourists all summer long, and rental RVs pack the parking lot, a quarter mile from town.
Still, that first trip sealed my fate. I became completely fascinated with the realization that places like this occurred all over the West. Since then, I visited Bodie many times, and its surreal charms continue to draw me back. Closed and difficult to gain access to at night, Bodie had remained one of the top locations on my “Someday I have to do night photography in there” list. When the opportunity finally presented itself through a photo workshop, I leaped at the chance. -Troy Paiva

Current images of the Cain's Brewery Village in the Baltic Triangle section of Liverpool, England. This area has seen considerable revitalization starting prior to, then opening in 2009 from 18 former 100-150+ year old warehouses brought back to life with breweries, shops and eateries. Nicely done Liverpool, nicely done. It reminds me of Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.

Red Brick Vintage. Lomography Fisheye 2. Ilford XP2.
Red Brick Vintage has been a fixture of the Cains Brewery Village for as long as the latter has existed. In fact, it existed long before that area was redeveloped and has moved premises three times. It's current site is their biggest yet and includes a cafe.

Such a cool fun place and probably my favorite in Liverpool. Located close to Cain's Brewery Village at 9 Bridgewater Street. I went because I saw that the beer, Taller Than a House, from Chapter Brewing was no more as that brewer was closing and Delia (the owner operator) was a big supporter. Unfortunate...a really good beer from a small brewer. The evening was great despite that (and the rain) as it was game night! 😁 I didn't sign up, but was given a free play and teamed up with Laura the bar keep, who had more smarts than I did! 😂
