So I've been reading The Cultic Calendars of the Ancient Near East by Mark Cohen 1993 and was proud of myself, its a 481 page book and I only have 167 more pages to finish. This will be only the third book in probably 7 years, that I finish cover to cover. The other two were a kids book and a food for thought book.
I bought a print copy, but didn't realize I was buying a different book— Festivals and Calendars of the Ancient Near East by Mark Cohen 2015. Thus I just discovered that the author considers the former to be outdated enough that updating it isn't enough, he had to make a completely new book. From the preface:
Too much has occurred in our field over the last twenty-five years, both in methodology and the availability of new texts, to warrant a mere update of The Cultic Calendars of the Ancient Near East. This work is a totally new book, all chapters reworked and most completely rewritten. There are some unchanged sections from Cultic Calendars, but they are relatively few. In some instances, such as the Umma month name pa -ú-e, I now consider my previously proposed reading to have been incorrect; whereas time has validated my assertion as to the reading of the month name se-kin-kus. In this book, I propose new readings and interpretations of month names, as well as completely new ideas in other areas, including a radically different approach to understanding the calendar of King Rim-Sin I of Larsa, the significance of the zukru festival at Emar, and a spring, not fall, orientation of the Ugaritic and Emar calendars. Much has been added to or changed in this book as a result of the published research of others over those years. I offer my apologies if I have overlooked the work of any scholar or have misrepresented his or her position.
I feel like I've wasted time. Because I want to finish those 167 pages because fuck it I want to finish a book. But after 481 pages of calendars and festivals I will not have the energy to read a 447 page book about the exact same topic.

Dungeon Meshi modern au where both Laois and Falin are food vloggers. Laois is always travelling to remote areas and cultures to try the most "extreme" foods and bring them to light. He's known as the guy who will drink blood and slam a still wriggling bug just to comment on it's nutty flavor. Meanwhile Falin is visiting long-standing eateries and sharing the stories behind local cuisine.
Nobody actually puts together they're siblings (in part due to wildly different viewerbases) until Falin in one video mentions how she enjoys eating insects and the comment section is full of folks asking her to "collab with the bug guy". Her very next video is her and Laois smiling infront of a mukbang style platter of insects and she introduces him as her brother.

Eddie falls asleep live streaming again one night . He’s only been asleep for a couple hours when Steve starts fussing. He sits up in bed, nudges Eddie, and then says in a voice that’s more sleep than awake, “Ed?”
Eddie responds in a similar tone, “Hm?”
“Get up. We’re gonna be late.”
“Kay.”
Eddie grabs his phone out of habit when he gets out of bed (Steve leaves his on the nightstand). If he would have looked at his phone than he would’ve seen that it’s three in the morning but he doesn’t, so it’s only when he starts the car that he questions, “What are we doing?”
It takes beat or two for that question to register before Steve answers, “…I don’t know.”
This is followed by silence.
Then a snort, and then Steve laughs out loud when Eddie says, “I didn’t even put pants on.”

I really want to talk about this paragraph from the Pride & Prejudice epilogue:
Lady Catherine was extremely indignant on the marriage of her nephew; and as she gave way to all the genuine frankness of her character, in her reply to the letter which announced its arrangement, she sent him language so very abusive, especially of Elizabeth, that for some time all intercourse was at an end. But at length, by Elizabeth’s persuasion, he was prevailed on to overlook the offence, and seek a reconciliation; and, after a little further resistance on the part of his aunt, her resentment gave way, either to her affection for him, or her curiosity to see how his wife conducted herself; and she condescended to wait on them at Pemberley, in spite of that pollution which its woods had received, not merely from the presence of such a mistress, but the visits of her uncle and aunt from the city.
I feel like a lot is made of women's unpaid labour in some domains (childcare, nursing the sick, cleaning etc) but we don't spend enough time talking about how maintaining social connections, with family and society, is also usually the work of women. This may be for many reasons, because it's not supposed to be work but pleasure, or because it's written off as just women gossiping, but it is work and it takes time and energy. It's also vitally important, maintaining social connections is what keeps you alive when times get tough but also what makes life worth living. These relationships will die without maintenance. The person writing letters, arranging holiday get-togethers, and smoothing over arguments is usually female.
Some readers hate this part, they want Elizabeth to Girlboss all over Lady Catherine and her snobby ways, but what does that accomplish? This is part of Mrs. Elizabeth Darcy's job, to do what she can to maintain family harmony. For better or worse, Lady Catherine is her husband's aunt, and burning a bridge is a big deal. I admire Elizabeth for putting aside her own feelings and moving towards reconciliation.

Vlads secretary recently quit in the middle of Vladco having a minor business expansion into Gotham and now he needs to hire a new one.
The bats are currently investigating one Vladimir Masters after he started to bring his business into Gotham. They’re very interested in the suspicious nature he acquired his wealth. Maybe it’s time to forge some resumes and bust out some old identities, Tim still has that blonde wig after all.
