Author's note: Okay, so, I've had this written as bullet points but with nothing really concrete since I first outlined the series, but it didn't really fit with what i posted, so i just let it be, until a few days ago when @getsojaded said a few nice things about this series that had me thinking about it again. Then this was born. It's just domestic fluff. The angst writer in me didn't know I could write something that's just fluffy, but here we are.

If you just came across this, I don't think you need to read the whole series to think this is cute so if you just wanna read some fluff maybe go for it oskaoskaoksoaks.

You're in the kitchen humming...

Emma follows the noise more than anything else. She’s not really used to waking up alone anymore so when she rolled over in bed to find Calum’s side empty, she was confused. Then she heard the clanking coming from the kitchen, so she sleepily moves to their closet, grabbing the first of Calum’s hoodies she could get her hands on, before walking through the house, leaning against the doorway to the kitchen, watching Calum's back as he reads something in his phone while leaning against the counter and humming a melody she doesn’t really recognize, the band was back in the studio, so for all she knows it could be something new he’s working on, before walking up behind him and wrapping her arms around his middle.

“Hi,” she says, leaning against his back, her head on his arm.

“Morning,” Calum says, turning his head to kiss the top of her head, and she giggles.

“What are you doing?” She asks, leaning her head to the side a bit more, glancing around all the ingredients around the counter before looking at his phone so she could see what he was reading, finding a brownie recipe. 

“Woke up feeling like baking,” he shrugs and she giggles.

“Okay, you need help?” She asks, moving to sit on the chair next to them.

“Not unless you’re ready to tell me the secret to your brownies,” he teases, glancing at her with pleading eyes and a grin, making her laugh.

“Okay,” she agrees, folding her sleeves so she could use her hands, pulling her hair up, and the bowl next to her closer and he turns to her, looking surprised.

“Wait, really?” He asks, face lighting up, making her heart flutter as she nods.

“Yeah.” The nod becomes a giggle when he leans forward, kissing her, then becomes a laughing fit when she almost falls off the chair as she chases his lips when he pulls away, making him have to catch her so she wouldn’t end up face first on the floor, laughing too.

“You okay?” Calum asks when he finally stops laughing, and she nods.

“You’re gonna be disappointed though,” she scrunches her nose, looking at him.

“Why?”

“It’s just chocolate,” she explains, pressing her lips together and turning to the counter, pulling the bag of flour and a measuring cup.

“What is just chocolate?” He frowns as he watches her pour the flour into the bowl.

“I add melted chocolate and cocoa powder to the batter, then I put some chips in it just for good measure,” she laughs, glancing at him while motioning for him to get the sugar for her.

“So it’s just an insane amount of chocolate?” He asks when he hands her the bag, and she nods. 

“Sorry to disappoint you,” she giggles as she adds the sugar and he slides the cocoa powder to her.

“Not disappointed, I should’ve guessed it was something like that,” he chuckles and she smiles at him as she mixes, “so you just put the chips in the microwave, or do you need to melt it in some fancy way?”

“Microwave is fine,” she says and he nods, kissing the side of her head as he moves to the microwave, “did you melt the butter?” 

“Yeah, it’s in the other bowl, you mix wet and dry separately, right? So I already mixed it with the eggs,” he tells her, making her laugh, “wait does the chocolate go with the wet or the dry?” He asks when he moves back and she raises an eyebrow at him, “never mind, stupid question,” he laughs, mixing the chocolate in. 

“I’m gonna get a tray,” she says as he finishes the batter and he grins at her. 

“You think they’re gonna turn out as good as yours?” Calum asks once the brownies are in the oven, sitting on the chair by the counter and pulling her to him so she's standing between his legs.

“I don’t see why they wouldn’t,” she says, leaning into his chest and hiding her face in his neck when he wraps his arms around her. 

“We’ll see,” he says to her hair, and she nods. 

“In a few minutes, yeah." 

"I'm gonna let Duke out," he says, letting go of her and she pouts at him, making him laugh and kiss her, earning him a giggle.

"I'll make coffee and clean then." 

The counter is clean, the dishes are washed and Emma is checking to see if the brownies are done when Calum comes back.

"Love?" He calls from somewhere behind her as she looks around for the oven mitts and she hums in acknowledgment, "do you remember the first time I had your brownies?" 

"Yeah," she laughs, opening the oven door and pulling the tray out, "you joked I was your favorite person and that I should marry you, hard to forget," she adds, setting the tray on top of the oven, "why?" 

"You are my favorite person," Calum says, and she chuckles, turning to him, finding him down on one knee, her eyes widening as she looks at him, "would you please marry me?" He asks, opening the ring box, but she's answering before he's quite finished speaking.

"Yes," she says, her voice sounding way too high as she drops to her knees too, "oh my god, yes," she repeats, throwing her arms around him, almost making them fall back and he laughs as he holds them up and her tightly against him, before she pulls away and starts kissing him. 

"Can you let me give you the ring now?" He asks against her lips and she can't stop smiling as she nods and pulls back, giving him her hand.

"I love you," she says once the ring is on her finger and she throws herself at him again.

"I love you too, so much," he says, cupping her cheeks and kissing her, before pulling them up.

"Did you plan this?" She asks, looking at the brownies and back to his face and he shakes his head.

"Not really. I've been trying to find the right moment and this felt right, so I just went for it. I was right to assume you would prefer something like that, right?" He asks, studying her face and she nods.

"Yeah, that was perfect actually, if you tried to pull something too elaborate I would've freaked out." 

"I know."

"This is just," she breathes, looking at the ring, "I love you so much." 

"Me or the ring?" Calum teases and she rolls her eyes.

"You know I would marry you in a parking lot with a ring pop."

"Yeah?" He asks, pulling her to him and she shakes her head, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"No, I'm only with you for the money," Emma jokes and he laughs.

"Damnit," he complains looking away, but he’s still laughing. 

"Babe, I've been in love with you for a decade," she says, cupping his cheeks to get him to look at her again.

"It's a long-term investment," he jokes and she gives him an unimpressed look.

"Idiot." 

"Your idiot," he grins at her, leaning in so he could kiss her, and she giggles against his lips.

“I can live with that,” she grins, kissing his cheek and moving away from his hold, opening a drawer to look for a knife for the brownies.

"Wait," she stops, closing the drawers without pulling anything out, turning back to Calum, "who gets M on the ceremony?"

i have a series that i've been planning on and off for the past year or so and i've finally got the first chapter written. being my perfectionist self, i feel as though i need to keep planning some more things but there's a part of me that really wants to just get started and, sort of, force myself to begin or else i'll never get the series written since there isn't that sense of urgency or encouragement to keep going when i have other things to do

the series is called: Divorcing Orion Black

it'll be my take on a Harry Potter fix-it-fic set in the marauder's era where reader is transferred into the Harry Potter universe and forced to replace Walburga Black, her main aim is to give sirius and regulus a better life by being a better mother than Walburga ever was. But, it's never easy considering the limited knowledge people have on the marauders era and because... the true Walburga never really...left?

the focus will be on platonic relationships as well as all the comfort and fluff in the world considering how dark and sad and angsty the marauders era characters' destiny ended up being

I just read the new chapter and it's soooo good.i love it soo much. like not even american so I don't fully understand the jersey thing (the post ab it was rlly helpful tho) but OMG THE JERSEYYY logan really screwed up with that one didn't he. mia has me slightly on edge tho because something seems off, idk if I don't just prefer grace for no reason, but at the same time I'm delighted happy that mia convinced them to play spin the bottle. KYLE DURING SPIN THE BOTTLE!!! he was sooo obvious, love him tho. kyle, calumn and dalton will be so relieved when they finally get together. I feel bad for ben tho bc he seem so nice and like such a good guy but we know he can't say forever, he's basically set up for failure. also calum is just so funny, he keeps hinting to oscar that maybe what him and logan do isn't typical friend stuff but oscar just moves on with like no concerns at all.logan and oscar are both so oblivious. I could keep talking forever but I just really wanted to say that I loved this chapter and well done on 100k words 💗💗💗

Meet Cute to Second Date: Calum is brought to the ER after an accident to get checked. There, he meets a breathtakingly gorgeous neurology resident, whom he just has to take out on a date.

House Date to Board Prep: After 2 incredible dates, Calum and (Y/N) take their relationship a bit further. A hospital party where he meets her colleagues, a fantasy of hers come to life, and the cutest study date, solidify their relationship.

Boards to Wedding Invitation: (Y/N) sits her board exams while Calum is away for promo. When she passes her boards, Calum celebrates her by treating the hospital, earning a permanent spot in the hearts of the staff. It is finally time for (Y/N) to meet Calum’s closest friends, which of course is not uneventful. (Y/N) gets invited to a wedding, and Calum wants to be her plus one.

Michael hums.  Calum glances at him out of the corner of his eye.  He looks solid, like Calum could reach out and touch him without his hand going straight through.  It’s still hard to reconcile the person next to him with the one who keeps flickering out of existence, but he also isn’t the guy who’s picture got plastered online when he first disappeared.  There’s a heaviness here that Calum didn’t get from any of those images, a distinct otherworldliness that can’t be captured in still images.

Luke hates parties. He hates spending his free time socializing, period. He would rather spend a Saturday night on the couch, watching Criminal Minds and stuffing his face with pizza. But one night, his friend forces him to go to a party. Obviously, he hates it, especially when the party games come out. He's forced to play them and he doesn't really like anyone he's going to have to play against. Luke just wants to go home before all this supposed 'fun' starts.

Little do both boys know, that one certain game is going to bring them both together and may even change Luke's usual routine of not partying or Ashton's obsession with partying.

I've only just started chapter one (~2k rn) but I'm already in love with it lol and I know it won't be a while until I share it but I'm really excited to !!! :D I love writing chaptered fics and I love having FUN with them. And, bc it's an AU, I've already gotten to plan some stuff and make up some fun things !! like, for instance, Calum is in a ~band~ (not 5sos) that I got to name anddd because the entire fic takes place on a tour, I also got to plan a tour !!! which is. kind of a logistical + geographical nightmare dude bc i had to pick the places, the dates, and the venues within the places blah blah blah but yeah :) I'm really excited about all of it. I even made a tour poster lol <3

but !! yeah !! I'm really excited about my fake little band that Calum is playing in <3 and I'm excited to for him to meet his future fave groupie <3 and I'm really excited to write them falling in love over secret hook-ups at hotels and ~forbidden pasts~ (bc those are my favorite) and I'm excited to get to share it all w/ people when it's written !!!!

Ahh so I've started another fic, which has been in my ideas notebook for a short while. It's going to be a multi chapter fic with each chapter being from a different pov

It's going to include bad friend Scott, bad parent Sheriff Stilinski, the Hales are alive and not part of the McCall Pack. It's going to have Chris as an enemy but turning out to be the hero of the story with Jackson being the linch pin that gets Stiles out of BH after everyone reacts to him coming out as gay.

The fic has come out of two things that has helped shape it so far. A prompt I saw where the superhero turns up at the villains door battered and bloody before passing out while saying that they didn't know where else to go

2022 Writing Evaluation

thanks for the tag bella @clumsyclifford​! thinking about writing and stats is weird for me in a lot of ways right now but I thought this might be a nice way to try to reflect on it in a constructive way.

5. story with the most kudos/bookmarks/comments: 

Kudos - for real

Comments - this city screams your name (which makes sense because chapters) but then there’s a massive drop to a ton of fics that all have about the same amount.

Bookmarks - new shapes and for real are tied

6. work i’m most proud of (and why): 

hmm. I think probably for real? It’s the longest fic I’ve ever written and one of the few this year that generally came fairly easily for me overall. i really thrive in a world where I can just describe Luke in a way that feels very true to actual Luke but also am scared of canon friends to lovers, so famous aus are a sweet spot.

And I guess maybe interlude too, because I hadn’t really done a “big” muke fic in a long time, and it was challenging, but in an overall rewarding way.

7. work i’m least proud of (and why): 

I guess I don’t often feel good about a fic before I post it these days, but there’s not necessarily one that stands out here as something I’m least proud of. 

I’ve posted a few fics this year that have just been lingering wips I managed to wrap up, and they tend to feel the most incomplete to me, like lowercases and capitals and keep these dreams. I feel like you can tell that I originally wanted more for them and just didn’t have the inspiration to make it happen.

9. a time when writing was really, really hard:

It’s been hard all year. Especially the second half of it, there were multiple times I wasn’t sure I’d ever finish another fic. And I’m still kind of in that space of…I’ll keep trying to write, but I can’t guarantee anything will get done. 

I think some of that is just because after writing for the same fandom for a certain amount of time, it’s kind of hard not to just feel like you’re repeating yourself, which saps inspiration. There’s also so little engagement with fic these days that it’s hard to actually tell if your writing is any good, which makes motivation difficult for people like me who don’t write specifically for engagement but DO have a strong desire to Be Good.

That said, I’ve still managed to post a lot of content, so the way my brain is processing this isn’t necessarily in sync with reality, and that’s something I can try to be aware of and try to reframe when I get in my head about it.

10. a scene or character you wrote that surprised you: 

Maybe comfortable silence Luke. He really turned into something a lot more nuanced than I expected. 

that fic in general became a lot different and more than i expected. it wound up being maybe the most “real” thing i’ve ever written and ever will write.

11. a favorite excerpt of your writing: 

Oh god. um. That would require me to remember what I write. I literally have no idea. There are some scenes that stand out, like the beginning of for real when calum and luke meet for the first time at the coffee shop, and the porch scene in new shapes.

12. how did you grow as a writer this year? 

I’m not sure that I did. And I don’t mean that in a bad way necessarily. I just feel like I fell into a groove in 2022 and have not really grown but am also quite comfortable in my groove.

13. how do you hope to grow next year? 

I think to grow as a writer I need to work on my perspective in terms of what counts as “success,” what are reasonable expectations to have for myself, and learning how to be better about dealing with the times I don’t feel inspired. Figuring out how to do that in a more constructive way mentally.

And, in answering the next question, I thought of another thing - I tend to assume people don’t want to hear about my writing unless they ask directly. So I stew in things a lot. I get stuck, I get frustrated, and I feel like no one cares, so I just don’t talk about it. But when I do manage to talk about it with the right people (see below), it’s always helpful. so maybe trying to get out of my own head more and be more proactively open about my writing.

14. who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc)?

Meg @kaleidoscopeminds​. It’s meg. In so many ways. Not just in terms of supporting and encouraging my writing and helping me through sticky spots, but also being my audience. Like even if no one else reads a fic, I know meg will, and that makes it worth posting.

Aria @calumthoodshands​ has also been a key influence here by being an idea machine, always prepared with suggestions. Not to mention the moodboard she made for comfortable silence before it was finished, which ended up inspiring several scenes in the fic.

15. anything from your real life show up in your writing this year? 

there’s at least one fic that’s very specific to personal experiences in many ways, but I think generally the way real life sneaks into my fics is through little details. Things that have happened to me, things that have happened to someone I know, or just things that I talked about with someone. Like in the spirit is the direct result of a “real” conversation with meg, even if nothing in it is remotely real.

16. any new wisdom you can share with other writers? 

I think last year I talked about writing something even if it means writing out of order or jumping between docs. And I still think that’s good advice for a lot of writers.

Beyond that though…this year has been all about learning to create in an environment where it doesn’t feel like the content is really being consumed. Finding ways to be okay with sending a fic out into the world and not really knowing how it’s received. Which is something I’m still working on.

17. any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year? 

This is going to sound more negative than it is - but not really, no! I have a couple WIPs that I might at some point get inspired to finish - including podcast cake! But I have no big ideas for new fics, and I don’t have anything I’m currently working on that I feel enough strong inspiration about that I’m confident I’ll finish. 

But you never know when something will hit, and there’s something nice about the sense of possibility there.

do you listen to music when you write/edit "An Arranged Marriage" ? what kind of music gets you in the mood to write/edit the fic?

I do have music that I listen to get inspired, but I don't oftentimes write while listening to music. I listen to all sorts of music over the course of my day, so I tend to have it quiet when it's time to sit down and write.

Well, I guess that's a lie, because I've got two lists: inspiration music and writing music. Both I occasionally dip into if I feel that it is necessary for the scene (parties, dances, etc) or if I just feel the vibe is necessary.

Inspiration music is whatever song I've latched onto for the day that just gets my interests going. I can't possibly list all of the songs that have inspired me, we'd be here all day if I did, but I can offer some of my most recent songs I've listened to. They may not even be possibly related to the story, just the vibe that's being given off by the song has caught my attention.

When It's Right, It's Right my beloved ♡ The sequel I never intended to write to the story I never expected to write lol

5: What part was hardest to write? Hmm. That's a tough one. I wrote this one out of order and ended up having to write a few chapters with things like the 'never going to live this down' in a row, and I struggled to keep things fresh and not feel repetitive. I also struggled a bit with the final two chapters, but that was mostly because I didn't want to let it go yet lol

13. What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn't listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading? I usually just listen to my Glee favourites playlist on Spotify, just to have some background music, but for chapter 9, the proposal, I listened a *lot* to the James Bay and Calum Scott version of Biblical. And by a lot, I mean that I literally had it on repeat for days xD (I wish youtube told you how often you've played a video ;))
