Its become unclear how it got to this point by now — who officially dared who, what the argument was about beforehand, whether you've decided you like or hate the softspoken stranger with a smile wider than even yours. You'd remembered to remove your coats, but not your hats, and its a miracle neither of you lost your glasses.

By the time you're ringing out your hair, and wondering why you did that, you're stuck unable to shake the the sense that something was... off. A feeling like that one you get when something terrible, hollow and ancient looms beneath your ship, waiting to swallow it up. You turn over the parting gift — an ivory bird, with eyes in its jaw and teeth in its beak — and try to shake the foreboding sense that the Scrimshander can hold its breath for a long, long time.

Most of the things that Oswald valued on the Surface (his father, the antique shop they ran together) are gone. Sure, he wishes he could go to the coast and see what it looks like when the blue of the open sky melts into the azure sea. He also dreams about seeing the constellations he learned about in his youth, instead of the ever-changing False Stars. But he built a whole new life and identity in the Neath and he's not about to give that up just to see the sky again.]

5: How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe? elias' name has very little meaning other than liking how it sounds, and a refrence to story that has some... thematic ties. mostly in that if you isolate someone from their community because of a disability, they tend to do awful things for that love (platonic, familial, and otherwise) that they crave. i think elias and erik would get along well, even if their disabilities are different Marigold's is foreshadowing to how they end up! Reflective of who they are. A beautiful flower in a garden, associated with death, the dead, and ghosts, who's pretty while they bloom, but doesn't last long. I wanted a warm colored flower name, and the associations are what made me choose it over other things. I also read a book series as a kid with a princess named Marigold who escaped from an evil queen. I also think it has a nice sound when my friends say it, and it's fun to type! Thursday I went back and forth on a little bit! They were originally going to be Monday instead! I wanted them to have a day of the week name as a refrence to the Calendar council having month of the year names, to tie them back into that with the revs! since many of us are fans of the Monday's child poem because of a certain prophet, i ended up looking to that to decide! "Monday's child is fair of face" didn't fit super well. Not that Thursday isn't handsome in their own right, but that their attractiveness and beauty has little impact on their story (unlike elias (designed to be hot because of desexualization of disabled folk) or marigold (used their good looks to be a fashion plate muse). But! "Thursday's child has far to go" speaks a lot more to Thursdays personal development, which is something i like a lot!! it's also part... cycles, thursday growing into being dependable, and just. the sun will always rise, time will always cycle back around, there will always be another thursday. even if the empress tries to stop it. Also in this game, bad things tend to happen on Thursday specifically (with that being when the month's ES is released) so! ties in well to their whole 'omen' deal thursday definetly had the most thought put into their name, and marigold wasn't even supposed to *have* a name ask game here!

NEARLY FORGOT THE SECOND QUESTION WHOOPS What is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most? there's a LOT about elias that i like, but i'm forcing myself to not ramble so! beside the obvious of their chair... i think it would be their stains <3 i used to walk around covered in stage prop paint and normal paint all the time in highschool, and personally? i think it's cool as fuck for marigold... probably their tattoos, or the rings and tears around their eyes. visible signs of what's been done to them </3 thursday's silhoutte is probably my favorite, i put a lot of hard work into getting that pawn-shape to come across (and so do they, have you seen how rectangular they are without their shapewear?!)

avery's clothing choices at any given event depend primarily on how much crime she intents to perform there. she'd honestly be a cool Bag a Legend! character – she'd relish veils' properties and assets.

Shale:

shale's style also depends on what he's doing – his great game strategies relies on people assuming he's a simple dockworker, so he has to dress appropriately. i imagine he has exactly one suit (but it's one he really likes) and he's very excited when he gets to wear it.

oh for sure changing my ambition. heart’s desire is good and all, and it is in character for Lady A, especially with the adoration ending but like idk if I had known light fingers would pull a genre bait and switch I probably would’ve gone for that or even nemesis. also I just found so much of it kinda boring especially compared to light fingers and nemesis

also I’m pretty sure I accidentally locked myself out of the affair of the box

also I think it’s kinda unfair that the artist’s model and jewel thief are spouses but not their counterparts (and the only reason the struggling artist is disliked is because of his opportunity card which wouldn’t be a problem if I could marry him)

not even a spouse but if the quiet deviless can become a companion why can’t the affectionate devil (I will always make the argument that these two are interested in you for more than your soul)

also once dashing smuggler. don’t like that the super long built up story just ends in him going back to the tomb colonies and fucking him

laughtrack <3 this ones half about her religious beliefs with the eye and how she thinks noone will believe her, and half about her relationship with angel and how she got away with her abuse + stealing mae's soul (at least for now). not to mention that angel doing that to her isnt even that new; getting used and thrown away is a repeating theme of maes, which i think adds to the whole "laugh and laugh at me" part.

i have plenty of devastating mae songs but divine loser encompasses all of maes hardships and goes "and it destroyed me entirely. theres noone left. i go on, but theres noone left."

divine loser has so many little Things about it when i think about mae with it. "i had to have killed god" goes so much harder when the god here is the eye, both one that mae has a personal relationship with and one of knowledge and fearlessness (and death, but its not too relevant here lol)

something something knowledge and fearlessness -> autonomy (overcoming fear to achieve your goals of seeking knowledge), and the eye itself being closed which both subverts what it would represent and gets to represent sorrow from it (as itd be drawn/a simplistic sketch here, so i can give it some drawn tears <3) for everything that's happened. gods probably feel bad when their disciples are hurt and such.

also, looks at the "im just afraid of feeling numb / forgetting how to love my cat" and both mae's soullessness and the cat being lucky here. ow my heart </3 ow ow o💥💥💥💥💥

🌈 Does your OC speak more than one language? If so, how many and which?

He does actually! I’d say 2.5 because he can read/write/speak English and French but he can only read and sooooort of write Latin. Just because he had to do it for medical texts. French he learned specifically to annoy people, which is more of a motivator for him to learn things in general. Honestly if you can convince him it would piss people off he’d learn violin. He’a that committed to the bit.

🌳 Would your OC survive for a week on their own in the wilderness?

Barring the fact that he’s technically already dead, I think so? He’d hate it the whole time and only do bare minimum to get through it. His general health might be a problem though, he’s not very strong or fast, but on the other hand I’ve decided he keeps a bottle of alcohol in his wooden leg (yes. Because of pirates of the Caribbean. Shush) so maybe he can get wasted enough to not care.

🎨 This was a question about artistic hobbies I think but I forgot to copy it and I’m on my phone. I doubt anyone will read this far down to call me out on it.

I’ve mentioned before but Doe actually really likes writing romantic poetry. The looooooooong story kind. Like….book length. They’re all very sweet with happy ending endings for everyone!!! Sometimes he forces Darcy to read them because he’s so proud of them! Whether they’re good or not, however, is entirely up to the reader.

Boots:

🛏️ What does your OC’s bed look like? What would they like their bed to look like?

Boots sleeps either in Doe’s helmet or on top of his chest at night. He also likes to nap right in front of Darcy’s basement door so that he trips over him.

He meets the Vake and the Vake is mean to him and doesn’t want to be friends :C.

6. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?

I mean if we're talking like legal laws... they may as well not exist. But inner, moral laws as dictated by Conscience and the Revolution? As rigid as you can get. Whenever Silvia goes against her moral code, she spirals into self-hatred, and gets melancholy and irritable and just unpleasant to be around.

25. What are their thoughts on marriage? 

Silvia does want to get married--but not yet. She's only 22, and she's having too much fun actually being able to openly date women and, ya know, other genders that date lesbians. Besides, if she was going to marry someone, they'd have to be as hopelessly devoted to her as she is to them, and that hasn't happened yet.

26. Do they actively seek romance, or do they wait for it to fall into their lap?

Silvia will bend over backwards to get someone else to ask them out first. Like, they'll very clearly show that they're interested, but if you're waiting for her to confess first, you'll be waiting a long time. Still, she does at least actively seek out situations that create the appropriate conditions for romance.

Rose: Favorite form of self care? Elias: If Elias has energy to spare, then they'll work on their garden!!! It's something that is purely a hobby for them, so they don't have to worry about work or the Guild or anything else! It helps them work out frustrations, and give them something to concentrate on! They have a Dye garden at the university that their students and partners help tend, but back home they have an assortment of plants they they have purely for the love of them! it gets them out of their own head and serves as a good distraction for her! if they don't have energy to spare? They'll make their bed up with their favorite quilts and pillows, make some tea, and just rest and read a book! it provides mental stimulation, but also ensures she won't hurt her body if it's already a bad pain day! Pennitha: Pennitha will make herself a nice bath!! She likes the cool water, it helps ground her, and it also helps make sure she's clean! Pennitha likes to take care of hygeine, but unfortunatly when she's deep in morning that can go to the wayside. She also spends time taking care of her hair, and making certain her curls are properly maintained! She'll also work on her knitting, making scarves and gloves and mittens!! Usually she gives these away as gifts for friends, and if she's focusing on a complex pattern then she can't get lost in her own thoughts. She'll also go and visit friends, as being alone for too long has a bad impact on her (like with Elias! these two spend a lot of time in each other's company) Pheobe: Pheobe will dust and clean his whole house! It's good to be doing something productive, and it makes him feel good to live in a clean and happy space. He'll relight his candles, and maybe spend some time at his altar. He writes in his journal a lot too, it helps him sort through his own emotions and make well-informed decisions!!! Lily: Love language?

Elias shows their devotion distantly! They aren't affectionate in person, but they are cuddly! They'll initiate touch frequently, though they don't like recieving it if others initiate without permission! They'll lean on others frequently, or purposefully move out of their wheelchair to sit on someone. With blanket permission though, touch over clothing is fine!! Showing it to others, they'll also often send letters! Even if you see them everyday, you may still wake up to your letterbox full of poems they think you'd like, or pressed flowers, or even the rare photograph! Elias has been hurt by words a lot, but was never shown physical affection until they came to london, so if you want to win them over, gifts of things they mentioned previously, or returning their cuddles are the way to go! or just being there for them consistently! Pennitha also enjoys physical touch, though not as much as Elias. She likes being helped with things, and she'll reciprocate with lots of little gifts! Emotional comfort has the most impact on her however. Being a shoulder to cry on, to bear some of the burden with her, means absolute worlds to her. She's very good at gifting and planning things for others, and knows everyone's likes and dislikes!! She also enjoys spending time with people!

Pheobe is also fond of giving and receiving gifts! He likes scheduled time together, whether for walks in the marshes, fighting off blemmigans when those walks go poorly, getting coffee after washing off blemmigan slime... he likes being intimate with someone like that! He's also prone to cuddles! Ask game here
