pirate au go brr. sorry quick lore drop about this au
so it starts with moleswift(DUH...) as pirates they were first mate and his captain (swifts) captain, they were probs looking for something to make them immortal idk fountain of youth pirates of the Caribbean core, they find it they drink from the fountain and mike dies almost instantly compared to norton and he has to get traumatized to see him die in his arms
Tumblr media
Norton realizes he is immortal under the full moon like he's full skelly under the light, so he's just actually a dead man walking. Mike's dead tho but he gets another form of immortality (constant reincarnation)
Anyway, norton and every iteration of Mike throughout 500 years
< soul and sparrow - i think this was his ronald of ness era where he was still trying to hide the fact he was immortal so he kept changing his identity, the first ever time he met another mike that found in a barrel at like 19 years old.. maybe idk, sparrow grew part of his Golden Rose crew, during the whole time… and mike looked up to him as his captain.. until smth more… Ronald projected swifts the most on sparrow, and honestly ended up having to leave him when sparrow was realizing that norton wasnt aging at all since they met, he had to leave him bc he was having an existential crisis about being immortal and not aging at all anymore no matter how he tried to hide or ignore it, so he left sparrow (and the crew, basically fakes his own death.) this is when he just embraces his immortality at this point, after being kind of a recluse for a while
Tumblr media Tumblr media
< cocoa and soul - maybe 100 years after sparrow, and hes given up trying to fake his identity, he has the face paint and everything, hes mostly known as soul now.. cocoa is the owner of an inn and he meets him every time he docks at his towns port, hes nice to him kind.. much softer than sparrow or swifts, but still as cocky and confident in himself (he notes that this mike smokes) cocoa lets him stay over whenever he wants to (hes trying not to get attached to this mike , so hes thankful for the fact that hes not a pirate or a sailor, just someone he can come home to any time, his light house per say.) he didnt have to do a painful goodbye with him, just a letter and the occasional sack of gold and jewels to spoil his favorite chef.
Tumblr media
<pomegranate mike, and soul honestly pomegranate was probably part of a traveling merchant boat that got destroyed at sea, luckily souls crew was around to fish them out of the water, this mike tho wasnt interested in anything that he had to offer preferring the life of being free with his guild at sea or anywhere, he loved to entertain but staying with soul probably felt like a cage. he probably asked soul to take them to the nearest port, hes was a nice equally fun mike, but wasnt interested or too scared to commit to soul. (Wahh da one that got away) soul respects him, of course, but it cant be denied he was hurt over this. and he grew a little bitter because of it.
Tumblr media
<cunning and soul.. - at this point 300 years passed already…pomegranate was the last mike he found and he didn't stay with him long and let him go without fighting because thats mikes choice man WHATEVER anyway, this is nortons sad emo boy era or as i like calling it weezer norton era. he became relentless, ruthless and his name was known through the seas, hes travelled the world at this point and his immortality has never failed him yet. he learned magic from patricia at one point, and now he has a crew of ghosts he necromanced into life to man his ship,- really kicking up the visuals in my head here but he has a literal ghost ship, its a physical ship but everyone on board is probably a ghost or a zombie (WHATEVERR MY AU MY WORLD BUILDING I SAY THEY EXIST.) anyway (onepiece reference i guess) when he saw cunning in one of the meetings for idk pirates or smth, tagging along with hollow (also a pirate bitch on his ass for the past years hes annoying as hell), he ws down right pISSED. (he hasnt seen a single mike reincarnation in 300 years, hes tried sleeping around getting over him, but NOTHING really compares to his soulmate.)
BUT anyway basically, in this au Hollow is looking for Alice (eternity whatever) and Soul knows where she is so he makes a bargain, he'll give Hollow Alice in exchange he gives him of of his most trusted men. (Points at cunning.) IF he gives him Alice in a pretty little bow for him, he can have cunning for himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cunning is like "pft. Yeah right. You're not gonna find her before we do." And soul is just smiling (horny depressed and has been blue balled for years at this point, u don't know what this guy can do) so he just smiles.
Hollow, surprisingly agrees. "OKAY if u find her before we do I'll give my end of the bargain." Cunning is a little upset at this, but he's determined he'll find Alice before soul. (eermmm)
Soul wasn't lying about knowing where Alice was tho, so he kidnaps her and takes her to hollow. Like a sack of potatoes.
"Gimme gimme." smth like that and mike is so distraught about this he's crying, verbatim; " I don't want to be that bag of bones property- I'm not property " but he's already at souls shoulder and he's kicking and screaming. He's such a bitch in this au I LOVEE BITCH ASS CUNNING WHINEY WHORE. nortons kind of an ass here and hes sort of using him as a way to distress the last 300 years away. Before he spoils him with everything hes gotten (for mike.)
So it's just rough hostage core treatment for the first couple of months until he starts using the money he's been hoarding on mike to spoil him.
But anyway, after cunning dies in idk when, 🤷‍♂️anyway when he dies kay the next one and final one is quinlan, he's an immortal vamp/witch and hes the only mike who remembers every mike reincarnations memories, he knows that soul is out there looking for him but he doesn't care about that rn, in this life he's looking for his mom, and ignoring souls horny whale calling in the back of his mind until they inevitably cross paths BEC they are SOULLMATESS AUGRGRHSHAHAGGZ In my head the way they meet went like this "Mole."
soul looking at him in surprise bec ever since someone misheard his name being soul and he grew tired of correcting people its mole, he hasn't heard that name in years. he wasn't even sure if this was his Mike, he doesn't have the blue eyes he used to have they were more green/gold… and each mike he's met always had swifts eyes. So thats why he's like emo. Do u get it anyway, this is their reunion in the middle of an pub that cocoa bean used to run, they standing in front of each other and quin almost looks too relaxed when their EYEESS MEEETTT FUCKKK anyway, "Swift?" and theres just that LOOK thats unmistakably mikes on his face that mole just couldnt help but take him into his arms like a the sad depressed man he is. They kiss and they start sailing together forever until they turn to ashes.
THE ENDD

The Difference between The Black Agenda & The Reparations Movement
Reparations Commissions are popping up across the Country, but none of them come close to addressing the true spirit of Reparations. There are several reasons for this:
Neither Democrats nor Republicans in Congress have a real interest in discussing Reparations; let alone dispensing anything tangible.
Minorities involved in these Reparations Projects have either tried to include their demographic into the discussion, or they have been against it.
Infighting amongst members of the ADOS, FBA, Freemen, & Indigenous Community have weakened the overall message of Reparations. The Masses don't realize that they are All THE SAME LINEAGE GROUP. This division weakens Our collective argument, but has allowed some to eat well over the past few Yrs.
Organizations like The NAACP, The Urban League, The National Action Network, NCOBRA, NAARC, & other like minded Groups have promoted a Trans Atlantic Reparations Agenda that ignores CARICOM. In effect, it 'Centers' Black Immigrants (including Afro Latinos) in the Black American Experience. Most arrived at least 10Yrs after Jim Crow ended- how do they qualify for American Reparations?
The recent kerfuffle over San Francisco NAACP President Rev. Amos Brown's rejection of that City's Reparations Proposal spotlights the problem w/ letting Our (so called) 'Established Leaders' drive the Reparations Bus. They drove the Bus into Our current situation, why should We expect anything different from them? Many of these individuals chose Corporate Donations over Black Community Development. They arent 'Leaders', they're Corporate Lobbyists. These are the Same People that let HR- 40 rot on the 'Social Action vine' for over 30Yrs; If they REALLY wanted Reparations...
Another issue, are the individuals & Organizations narrating 'The Black Agenda' into the Reparations Argument. They are separate & distinct. The White Noise of their rhetoric has confused The Masses, which weakens the magnitude of Our Fight. For the sake of clarity, I want to point out the difference between The Black Agenda & The Reparations Movement.
The Black Agenda, is an All inclusive Program for Black & Afrikan Americans, regardless of their Country of Origin. This includes Africans, Caribbeans, Afro Latinos, & Afro Asians. All of Us share in the current experience of being Black in America. It is an experience that is unique to Us, & is also what unites Us.
The Black Agenda is about Equity. America loves to promote 'Equality', but equal measure doesn't guarantee that Everyone will somehow end up on equal ground. We have been collectively marginalized in America, so it's only fair that they level the playing field. 'Rising Tide' Programs, like those offered by The Democratic Party are on the right track, but NONE take into account the fact that Black America needs an extra scoop of whatever they propose.
The Black Agenda deals w/ the issues of Community Development: Residential & Commercial/ Business Property Ownership, Job Development, Training & Employment Opportunities, Health Care & Mental Health Solutions, School Reform, After School Programs, Youth Empowerment, Visual & Performing Arts Programs, Daycare & Pre- K Programs, along w/ the necessary Community Boards needed to present these & other Community related issues to Local & State Agencies. The goal, is to improve the overall Quality of Life in Black Communities- up to the level of Every Other Community.
The Reparations Movement, is a specific call for American Society to pay their long overdue debt to American Descendants of Chattel Slavery. This Movement is about Indemnification. While Black America collectively deserves legislation, American Descendants Of Slavery deserve much more. The problem w/ EVERY Reparations Program offered so far, is they All ignore the fact that Reparations is a debt owed. They All read like Politicians are giving Blackfolk a hand out. These Programs also fall short on what is really owed.
A lot of numbers have been thrown around over the years, but I have consistently said that Final Reparations numbers will depend on WHO is held liable. If the U.S. Government alone is held liable, Reparations will probably be in the $18 Trillion- $22 Trillion range. If Corporations & Individual families are included, that number could reach $64 Trillion. That should give a clue to the extent of Exploitation, Theft, Terrorism & Oppression that Black America endured over the last 246Yrs- 400Yrs. American History is a chronicle of Anti- Black sentiment. Reparations Naysayers point out the impossibility of dispensing Trillions of Dollars, but a Multigenerational Reparations Program is an easy solution.
The Republican Party's outright refusal of, & The Democratic Party's attempt to graft Feminist & LGBTQ... rhetoric to Critical Race Theory (CRT), are attempts by both Parties to keep Mainstream America away from Our Nation's cruel & bloody past. They obviously fear divulging this history, because it will quell the Argument 'Against', as it strengthens the National Argument 'For' Reparations. The Immigrant Argument of 'I wasnt Here' becomes embarrassing, when We consider 2 facts:
It was Black American Labor that built America up & made it attractive (i.e. The Land of Milk & Honey) to Europeans, Asians, Latinos, Caribbeans, & Afrikans looking to start a New Life.
Black America is responsible for motivating ALL of the Immigration Initatives over the last 150Yrs; especially those since 1965.
It's only fitting for Immigrants living their American Dream (at another's expense) to pay tribute to the people who made that dream possible. I like the analogy of 'Inheriting an Old House'. The New Occupant didn't cause the wear & tear on the house, but that doesn't change the fact that they will have to invest the Time, Work, & Money needed to restore & maintain it. THAT, is the price of Occupancy.
Another thing to consider, is the fact that most Black Americans are descendants of Indigenous Americans or American Indians (Coppertoned Aborigines); not to be confused w/ 'Native Americans', who migrated from Siberia. Less than 10% of Transatlantic Slaves landed in North America. Our Ancestors were Prisoners Of War, that were forced into Indentured Servitude, & later Chattel Slavery on their Own Land. Census Records reveal the effort to hide Our lineage.
Starting w/ the 1790 Census, Indigenous indentured servants were reclassified as Negro & Colored. By the 1900 Census, Indigenous People were being punished for identifying as 'Indian'. They were forced to identify as Negro, Colored, or Mulatto. By the 1970 Census, We were designated 'Black'; & on the 1990 Census, We were labeled 'Afrikan American'... Out Of Afrika Theory is not only Culturally false, it now appears to be a ploy to get Us off of Our Land. We're looking to Afrika, while the Blood & Bones of Our Ancestors fertilize This Land. Our success in agriculture isn't an accident- We were Here for millennia!... I guess that adds an extra wrinkle to the Reparations Discussion.
It's Time for Us to link the moving parts of Our Lineage into Black Voltron, so We can get on w/ The Work. -Just Saying

Some more people with glorious manes and a lot of eyeliner playing obsure musical instruments and headbanging.
It makes me very happy that a few of you were actually interested in the music I posted yesterday, @quintalon since IRL i don't have any metalhead friends, but I do love to talk about it, so here's a quick rec list :)
Spoiler. It wasn't quick.
Fair warning, lots of non-english speaking bands here, and also probably a lot of overlap in the artists in the bands, because them promoting their side projects would have been how I found out about them in the first place. Also, god help me, I just absolutely love weird music.
So, in no particular order.
A few more d'Artagnan songs I love:
Herzblut
We're Gonna be Drinking
BONUS: One-take singthrough of Hey Brother by lead singer in normal clothes with his man-bun. Hot in a different way but i'm here for it.
Feuerschwanz. Same singer as in d'Artagnan, probably equal amounts of serious music as absolutely absurd stuff, but stupid talented all the same. On a related note, I'll save you the trouble of translating. It means fire dick.
Some Feuerschwanz recs in order of most to least serious:
Das Herz eines Drachen
Bastard von Asgard (My personal fave, this whole album is fire.)
Dragostea Din Tei (yeah, you read that right. their covers are hysterical and numerous. see also: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, Ding)
Alestorm. I've been listening to these idiots since i was a teenager, so lots of examples in this one. Pirate metal, does what it says on the tin, generally very silly, kinda like the Pirates of the Caribbean music with electric guitar and A LOT of swearing. Some cool sea shanty vibes. Lots of generally good times.
Paddy and the Rats. Also vaguely piratey, I like the sound though.
Join the Riot.
Red River Prince.
Dark Side of the Moon (band, not Pink Floyd album). First Light
Russkaja. More Polka/ ska vibes than traditional folky sound, but some of the most gloriously weird music i've ever heard. Before anyone says anything, they use Soviet imagery and some Russian language, but they are and have always been hardcore anti-war, and the band members are from all over Europe.
These will both have you saying 'wtf am i putting in my ears right now?' hopefully in a good way. Shapka and Energia.
Wind Rose. Dwarf metal. Someone said that the song i posted earlier sounded like a metal band in middle earth, well these guys literally sing about Erebor and Durin and whatnot. Nerdy AF, obviously.
Saltatio Mortis. My Mother Told Me
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
The HU. Mongolian folk metal. Incredibly atmospheric.
Yuve Yuve Yu (music starts at 1 min)
Wolf Totem
I could go on, but i've tortured you all enough for one day. Rock on, my dudes.

Drop Them Bones Chapter 10: Square Meal
Square Meal: A good quality, nutritious meal
History: This term was most likely derived from the fact that sailors were served their meals on square shaped plates. However, from the 1500’s onwards, the word ‘square’ meant that something was upstanding, proper or straightforward.
So Chapter 10 is the longest chapter so far, but I figured I could be forgiven for the length, given how long it's been taking me to update these days...
Notes:
If you google “things found in an alligator’s stomach”, I guarantee you will be equal parts fascinated and horrified.
Since posting the last chapter, I’ve eaten alligator twice – both times in the Midwest, of all places…
Research spiral, Jamaican Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries
I love making bento boxes, but often fail to have time during the week. That doesn’t stop me from having a collection of adorable food picks, various vegetable cutters, cute egg poachers, and more silicone cups than you can shake a stick at.
Random link on Coevolution
Layers of a rainforest
Tropical Fruits
Alligator eggs are squishy!
Recipes slain in the making of this chapter:
Fish Head Porridge: I know I've already had a congee recipe in another chapter that uses fish heads, but they really are delicious...
How to Grill a Whole Fish: I've set fish on fire using this technique.
How to Bake a Whole Fish: I've also set fish on fire using this technique.
Homemade Mayonnaise: I'm a firm believer in the difference between a mayonnaise and an aioli, and I am invariably sad-faced when restaurants lie. This recipe is helpful if you always have the other ingredients on hand, but sometimes go through mayo too fast and it's too late at night to order groceries...
Grilled Gator Bites: Like most food things native to Florida, gator bites are usually fried to hell and back with spices that make them unrecognizable as their original meat. Ref. conch fritters in Chapter 4.
Caribbean Orange Spiced Carrots: So simple, so delicious. I could live on these.
Bento Box 101: If you've never taken the time to make yourself a bento box, I highly recommend it as self-care. The little shapes, the tiny food, the variety, the splendor. Seriously, I collect plastic food picks from anywhere I can find them (usually international food markets) - there's nothing quite like daintily plucking a star-shaped carrot with your teeth from a pick that has a horrified-looking octopus on the end to brighten your day.

Countries - North America
I currently working on denominations in Califinity, mainly the two biggest ones. However, I hit a snail due to just trying to think up names for it. Like, GRR Martin said he doesn't bother with it for Westeros' names like The North and King Landing, but I am obsessed with namings. If the name doesn't have meaning, or doesn't looks right, I gonna fucking throw myself off a bridge.
Anyways, right now I focusing on North America states because there are a lot more countries than ours today. And I including Central America and the Caribbeans, because it's still part of North America. I will also talk about UNAC, which is a supernational union similar to today EU (EU was already federalized in bhna contemporary) and superseded NAFTA.
United States of Fredoia
I already talked about Fredoia briefly on my last post, only that it superseded the USA. Fredoia inherited the majority of USA lands (there were time they didn't, thanks to Neo-Confedercy). They did lose many lands due to many Native tribes declaring independence (I will elaborate that later).
Like USA before, Fredoia kept it capital city where Washington, DC was, and like Washington state, its name is change (maybe Unionpolis, very original lol). It incorporated Arlington Country and Alexandra City, giving DC a total land area of 270 km². It population should be around 3 million. It administration level will be called a metropolis-state level: it status is equal along with other states (they are represented at congress), but it functions more as a city.
New York City is also a metropolis-state, incorporating counties and cities in its surroundings, including Hudson Country, NJ(yep, Jersey City included). However, it lost being the biggest in the US (being now 18 mil), Metropolis of Los Angeles is bigger, far bigger (24 mil). Also, they rebuilt Penn Station, now called Empire State Central Station.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, voting systems and constituents' representation are different. It is a proportional representation by parties, meaning Fredoia has a multi-party system. The head of state and head of government is separated, and its government structure is a parliamentary republic like Germany.
Thanks due to quirks, immigration, civil wars, geographical barriers, and the fact that this takes place hundreds of years later, Western and Eastern Fredoia have very different cultures compared to today. How people differentiate West and East is by geographic barriers like how we do so with Mississippi River. The Rocky Mountains Range helped differentiate the two regions.
For one, Latines are now the majority in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and other Western states (maybe not Oregon nor Washington). There are already articles that projected this will happen. What is unique due to the mixture of Latine and Anglo culture, especially the language, created a new ethnicity called Californians (Kalifornán written as gender neutral). They even developed a unique language called Kalifornán in its native language (Kalidán if you read my other post for Dune). It's a mixture of Spanish and English, mainly that Spanish superceded English phonetics and any words that were originally French. However, many English words still remain, words like ín (and), islán (island), lán (land), ríf (river), and such. Also, some letters change due to pronunciations, like Spanish J is now Hr (Juan will spell Hruan), Spanish and English Ch, along with English J is now Ç. The C that pronunced similar to the word city is now S (reason why Frinsica has an S now). I gonna write a post for this.
One key factor for Californians' ethnicity is that the majority are Califinitans. The majority of Fredoia Califinitans are located beyond the Rocky Mountains, with exceptional of Upland South-
Tumblr media
-due to The Great Blooming and the Neo War. Almost all of those in Upland are what I called Deitist: believing that Califia is someway a deity.
There is also a new ethnicity/race called Biras (Birace?Biase?). They are the English version of Mestizos. I was thinking that since interracial is more acceptable, and therefore more biracial children, that will be far more biracial in the future. I will think they will be the majority (maybe 1/3?), though they will likely have different groups depending on their background. Sasha Waybright is likely a Biras, however, this will depend on if her one or both her parents are from the Eastern. She probably will view herself as a Mestiza since she will be a Kalifornana.
I also want to create a different post that focuses only on the State of California.
Native American States
After the Second Civil War, many Native American tribes declared independence. How many, I don't know, and to be honest, I don't think it is more than 10. Right now, I gonna create ones from the US since I more familiar with it. There likely are independent First Nation states in Canada, and there definitely is a Mayan state in the Yucatán Peninsula (and maybe whatever the Zapatistas are controlling now).
Kingdom of Hawaii
This was already a no-brainer as there is already a sovereign movement by Native Hawaiians. Honestly, it is rather they would have a monarchy or republic is the question.
This part is going a bit controversial, but once the USA government kinda just collapsed, there was a lot of chaos in the islands. There was a massive exodus, many who were non-native, who went back to the states. However, there was also an expulsion of other non-native, even those were not white, by Native Hawaiians; there were conflicts between two groups who wanted to either remain in the union or become independent, which led into this. Hawaiia also has a right of return for diaspora Hawaiian like many other countries do.
The capital is still Honolulu. They are a member of UNAC. When Amphibia was transported at the Pacific, Hawaii claimed some islands in its southern water that were uninhibited. There are political tension between the and the Kingdom of Newtopia due to this, and also the fucking megafaunas they traveled to the islands.
Navajo-Hopi Nation
Again, a no-brainer, however, the thing that was a bit shockingto me was that there is another tribe reservation inside Navajo. I was wondering why there was a hole in Navajo until I look at a proper map and saw Hopi in it lol
Tumblr media
(Other reservations in the East likely will be incorporated simply because Navajo-Hopi ask them "hey you wanna join us?")
Honestly, it likely they had the most peaceful transition: it isolated thanks to being in a desert (and behind the Rocky Mountains), there is not that many non-native in it to begin with, there are other issue happening for the USA government to worry about, and the most hilarious reason, is that they never publicly declared independence. They decided to ignore DC and acted like an independent country for either half to nearly a century.
I don't know if Navajo-Hopi should be a binational state or not. Binations don't usually last that long, and there are other non Navajo-Hopis that live in the nation. The capital city is Jeddito, an actual place in Navajo that is inside Hopi. Population in the nation should be around 10-15 mil. NH is part of UNEC.
Republic of Lakotah
Likely the biggest Native country if Alaska isn't independent. It is actually based on a proposal state for Lakota.
Tumblr media
It capital and largest city is Omaha (will go by a different name). The city is right on the tip, and it is the most important city as it is connected with the Mississippi River.
Even though Lakotah is meant for Lakota, there are other Native tribes who emigrated to it. There is likely ethnic tension between Lakota and the other non-Lakotas, but I don't think it won't be as awful as other places.
Of all the native states, Lakotah was the most violent; the country situated in five Republican states. The likely reason how they managed to gain independence is due other tribes from the surrounding coming over to help (similar to Bleeding Kansas). And anti-quirks were not as pivotal or heated compared to Whites (especially Republicans), so while Whites were fighting among themselves about quirks, quirks and non-quirks Native were teaming up.
There is a unique architecture in Lakotah, buildings which are called Tipi. Tipi are small, arcological buildings that are meant to house either 2,000 to 10,000 people. They primarily house people without hurting the environment. They are small, 1/4 to the size of a square kilometer. What is unique is that it is a commune, allowing people to share and control resources via democratically. It's the only place on Earth where they have true communism. How Tipi interspersed the lands is unique because I got the idea from Not Just Bike on his video of Switzerland. Lakotah is a sprawling country, where half the population lived in 5 major cities, and the other half lived in Tipi in said city's region or somewhere else. Instead of having sprawling suburban like the USA and Canada, Lakotah is sprawled by Tipi.
Lakotah land area is 200,00 km², with a population of 55 mil., and Omaha population is 10 mil.
It is also a member of UNAC
Country around Oklahoma
I know for a fact that tribes in Oklahoma declared independence too, the only issue is I don't know a name for it. There are multiple ethnicities in Oklahoma, and there likely need to have a lingua franca.
Tumblr media
I still gonna call it Oklahoma. Oklahoma City is the capital, with a population of around 1-2 mil. The country itself is 15-20 mil. Oklahoma is a member in UNAC.
Maya Republic
Mayas initiated their country during the Dark Age/Vigilant Era, like the four other countries I mentioned. And when i said Maya, I mean Indigenous Mayas , not Mestizos who don't identify as such. The Maya Republic controls Chiapas, Yucatán Peninsula, Belize, and Northern Guatemala.
Tumblr media
I don't know where the capital city will be. Either Mérida in Yucantán, Jovel, or Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Population is likely at 30 million. Maya is a member in UNAC.
The majority of Mayas are likely Califinitans, though I don't know if they will be deitists or nondeitists.
UNAC
UNAC, or United North America Confederacy, is what I said before: a supernational union similar to EU. And I mean similar in many ways.
Border between UNAC members are open, there is a singular currency (called Uneso), no visa required for nationals when working in different countries, UNAC Nationals allowed to vote and stand in office in local government, no restrictions in trading, etc. There is not much standard when it comes to infrastructure. However, they do have major projects for UNAC to feel more connected. Almost all railways in mainland North America are electrified (25kv/50hz), all have standard gauge, have uniformed signals, and are connected. It's theoretically possible to take an hsr (450 kph) line or two from New York City to Panama City. But a more preferrable opition is a Maglev (750 kph) line, which goes directly to either city.
The capital city is at Rio Grande mouth, called Rio Grande City. It picked for a symbolic reason: Rio Grande separated Latin and Anglo culture, the treatment of Mexican, and proxy Latines, by the former USA, and picking the capital on the mouth bonds the two cultures together.
The city population is around 20-25 million. Some interesting things i think up is that there is a lot of bodies of water in Rio Grande City, like what it is today-
Tumblr media
-so the city kinda looks like Venice. There are artificial islands similar to I-Island off the coast, though they are much smaller, likely at average of 10-50 km². There is a pro-hero academy meant for UNAC national students. There is also a Triwizard-like tournament for Pro-heros academies, and it is always hailed in the city.
I think the UNAC government is similar to the EU along with Switzerland. It has two legislative, one voted by population, another by it state government. There is also a commission committee that handed making laws, but I too lazy to look it up. UNAC Senate, the one elected by population, has a degressive proportionality when giving each state senator. Let's be honest, Fredoia will fucking out vote every countries due to having the highest population. Mexico comes in second by population, with maybe a population of either 250-300 mil, but even then, adding all the other countries, they still won't outnumbered Fredoia, even if Fredoia did lost many states before. So, small countries (maybe less of 10 mil?) automatically have 5 senators, and the Senate will apportioned senators accordingly. Likely Fredoia only filled 1/3 of the Senate. The executive branch is a council of each countries head of state and government, like the EU.
Amphibia and the Boiling Isles
Amphibia can't be a member due to it government and representation. Even though Amphibians could elect local leaders, non-Newts can't vote for the supreme legislative body, and the kingdom is a semi-constitution monarchy. Like, UNAC is okay with Hawaii being a monarchy (if Hawaiians choose it) as it government is very much a constitution monarchy. The monarch has restricted power, similar to the British monarch. Andrias has far more privileges that will make UNAC very uncomfortable. There is some trade right between the two, and the Amphibians do have an easier time getting a visa (this I imagine how Hop Pop and two kids manage to enter California).
For BI, it is complicated. BI is situated in the middle of the Atlantic, and therefore does not feel connected to North America. Actually, there's likely tension between UNAC and BI (and likely other countries, especially EU and West Africa countries). Many of the islands block shipping lanes, so conflicts between BI and other countries are likely to happen. Doesn't help they are also do magic and far more non-humanoid like.
Not only that, but BIS are very isolationist. Rarely do they connect with the outside world. Even when Belos becomes emperor, it didn't really change its isolational policy other than scaring other countries because now they are united and far more powerful.
There's nothing else much to talk about. In the EU, they have a similar international pro-hero academy for EU national students to learn together -this is the premise for snk/bnha fic, where 104th class are a pro-hero class (Eren was a non-quirk until his father gifted him one, and not only Ymir (freckles) is from a famous and loving pro-hero parents, but she also in an arranged marriage with Historia, her childhood best friend).
Anyways, that's it.

Her heart, in spite, is warm and bright
Her smile awakes the Northern Light
She, queen of the kings, runnin' so fast, beatin' the wind
Nothin' in this world can stop the spread of her wings
She, queen of the kings, broken her cage, threw out the keys
She will be the warrior of the North and Southern Seas
-Alessandra, Queen of the Kings
Some- those who survived Blackbeard’s hell ship- thought they would be forced to their knees if they weren’t chucked off the ship to begin with. Knives and axes slipped into hands that still bore the scars of far too many raids or months stuck in a trunk in the lowest hold. Even Izzy Hands himself swallowed dry as the ship approached.
Then the Queen herself comes across the rope bridge between their two ships and her expression is clear of smeared kohl, tears, or fire. She has a sword, yes, but a posture that speaks to a confidence that seems natural, not arrogant. She seems impressive, but, at least from a glance, doesn’t seem to be too dangerous.
But there’s that lingering fear, that level of threat that those who killed Blackbeard cannot forget. It digs into their brains, seeding itself in the fertile soil of well-honed paranoia.
Zheng Yi Sao is the fucking Pirate Queen. She is a goddess among pirates, the greatest pirate captain in the world. Compared to her, Blackbeard was an ant, and yet he was their god for so long, able to destroy and ruin them all so thoroughly that they're all still trying to sort things out, months later.
But Zheng Yi Sao has a smile that is bright, almost warm, if rather quick.
-aletterinthenameofsanity, swear this time around I'm gonna stay (love me if you choose to)
I absolutely love the depiction of Zheng Yi Sao/Ching Shih in this series so much! She's a fantastic ruler established to have the sort of confidence and power you'd need to take over China and the Caribbean sea, but is allowed to be sassy and romantic and drop dead funny at the same time WITHOUT losing her fleet (my number one complaint with her storyline in the show- why bring in the most badass and most powerful pirate to ever exist and then strip her of all of her power). Her romantic dynamic with Frenchie is fun and hot and a well-developed relationship of equals.

Sonia Sanchez was born Wilsonia Benita Driver in Birmingham, Alabama. After her mother’s death in 1935 she lived with her grandmother. Her grandmother taught her to read at age four and write at age six. When her grandmother passed away in 1943 she moved to Harlem, New York where she stayed with her father Wilson Driver.
Driver attended Hunter College in New York City where she took creative writing courses although she graduated with a B.A. in Political Science in 1955. Continuing her education at New York University, Driver focused on the study of poetry. She also married and divorced Puerto Rican immigrant Albert Sanchez, although she retained his surname. She later married poet Etheridge Knight and together they had three children. They would later divorce.
In 1965 Sanchez taught at San Francisco State University. The course she offered at San Francisco State in 1966 on the literature of African Americans is generally considered the first of its kind taught at a predominately white university.
Sonia Sanchez released her first collection of poetry in 1969 entitled Homecoming. Her poetry was described at experimental and innovative; Sanchez was the first to blend the musical elements of the blues with the haiku and tanka poetry styles. She tackled many genres of literary art such as writing children’s books, and plays. Sanchez is most famous for her Spoken Word poetry books. She was awarded the American Book Award in 1985 for one of her best-known books, Home girls and Hand grenades.
Sanchez was a major influence in the Black Arts and Civil Rights Movements of the 1960s. She was an active member in the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) as well as the Nation of Islam. She was inspired when she met Malcolm X and used his vernacular in some of her poems. She left the Nation of Islam after three years of affiliation in protest of their mistreatment of women. She continues to advocate for the rights of oppressed women and minority groups.
Sanchez has received countless awards for her work including the P.E.N. Writing Award (1969), the National Academy of Arts Award (1978), and the National Education Association Award (1977-1988). She has guest lectured in over 500 colleges and universities. Her poetry has been heard worldwide in Africa, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, China, Cuba, Europe, and Nicaragua. Sanchez’s last faculty appointment was at Temple University in Philadelphia where she was the first Presidential Fellow at that institution and the first to hold the Laura Carnell Chair. Sanchez taught courses in English and Women’s Studies until her retirement in 1999.
Ms. Sanchez now resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

5 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Black Interior Designer
In the world of interior design, diversity and representation matter. Hiring a Black interior designer not only brings unique perspectives and creativity to your project but also contributes to the promotion of inclusivity and equity within the industry. Here are five compelling reasons why you should consider hiring a Black interior designer for your next project:
1. Cultural Sensitivity and Awareness
Black interior designers often have a deep understanding of diverse cultural influences and histories. Their unique perspective allows them to incorporate elements of African, Caribbean, or African American culture into their designs in a way that is authentic and respectful. Whether it's infusing traditional patterns, textures, or colors into the space, a Black interior designer can create an environment that celebrates diversity and promotes cultural awareness.
2. Innovative Design Aesthetics
Black interior designers bring a fresh and innovative approach to design aesthetics. With a keen eye for detail and a knack for thinking outside the box, they can transform any space into a visually stunning masterpiece. Whether you're looking for a contemporary, minimalist look or a bold, eclectic style, a Black interior designer can tailor their designs to suit your unique preferences and needs.
 3. Empowerment and Representation
By hiring a Black interior designer, you are not only supporting diversity within the design industry but also empowering Black professionals in a field where they are often underrepresented. By actively seeking out and hiring Black talent, you are sending a powerful message about the importance of inclusivity and equality in all aspects of business. Furthermore, seeing successful Black designers in prominent roles can inspire future generations to pursue their passions and dreams in the field of design.
4. Community Engagement and Impact
Many Black interior designers are deeply rooted in their communities and are passionate about giving back. By hiring a Black designer, you are supporting local businesses and contributing to the economic growth and development of minority-owned firms. Additionally, Black designers often prioritize working with local artisans and craftsmen, thereby preserving traditional skills and techniques that are integral to their cultural heritage.
5. Breaking Down Stereotypes and Bias
Hiring a Black interior designer challenges stereotypes and biases that may exist within the design industry. By showcasing the talent and creativity of Black designers, you are helping to break down barriers and create a more inclusive and equitable environment for all. Furthermore, working with a diverse team of designers and professionals can lead to richer, more dynamic design solutions that reflect the varied perspectives and experiences of the people involved.
In conclusion, hiring a Black interior designer offers numerous benefits beyond just creating a beautiful space. From promoting cultural sensitivity and awareness to empowering underrepresented communities, the decision to hire a Black designer can have a positive impact that extends far beyond the confines of your project. So, the next time you're considering embarking on a design endeavor, remember to seek out and support Black talent in the industry. Your space—and the world—will be better for it.

FROM THE SMALL’S ARCHIVE: MIGUEL ZENON/DOS ALAOS with Camila Cortina Bello, Noam Tanner, and Varun Das, SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 2 DECEMBER 2023, 7:30 set
Taking advantage of my discovery that these shows are immediately available on YouTube, I didn’t have to wait for this one to be archived on Small’s Live. While it was relatively easy to be “at” Mezzrow’s last weekend for Billy Drummond with hero Fred Hersch and John Hebert, this run around the corner at Small’s was equally a must see as Miguel Zenon is simply a huge figure in the music.
He has more than sufficient jazz, in a narrow sense that really doesn’t fit the music, chops to be central to the SF Jazz Collective. I saw him/them early in my Jazz St Louis days for a Miles Davis program and streamed him getting very very friendly flak from none other than Lee Konitz for a duo date with Dan Tepfer. He is spending some of that social/artistic capital—and not paying down the principle one iota—with projects that dig deep into the repertoire of Latin American and Caribbean tunes and reconfiguring our conception of that music. The focus is on the melodies and the rhythms, though insistent, are not to the fore.
Building on duo projects with longtime pianist Luis Perdomo (they recorded an album of boleros on a stream from the Village Vanguard that I watched as I did for a stream from Mezzrow’s the night before they went into the studio to record the follow up), he now has this band doing the same thing. Camila Cortina Bello is the pianist and she brings tunes from her native Cuba, especially those of Pablo Milanes. Those complement those of Rafael Hernandez from Zenon’s Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rican and Cuban music differ and there are wonderfully vast variety in those traditions. Throw in the rest of the Caribbean and Latin America (Perdomo is from Venezuela) and throw out the notion that Latin music is one thing. What I appreciate in Zenon is that he goes deeply into these traditions and doesn’t smother them with too much thunderous drums. Varun Das with the whole band can do that and they added that seasoning, but they also used it subtly.
In that sense, this was thoroughly a jazz show, even if jazz is hardly one thing, with virtuoso playing prodded by improvisation and accompaniment. Zenon is a master. Cortina Bello has lots of chops and an elegance that makes these tunes sing. Noam Tanner took his opportunities to complicate the rhythms and the harmonies. Das did both the full Latin flourish but, even better, the same thing with great subtlety.
Miguel Zenon is a force and we benefit from him unearthing this massive cultural legacy.

[ad_1] Rugged, windswept, and ripe for adventures, the best remote islands for wildlife spotting are a far cry from your typical all-inclusive Caribbean getaways. And while I’m all for some rest and relaxation on a sun-bleached beach, there’s something truly special about seeking serenity on one of our planet’s wild isles. Whether I was whale-watching against the verdant backdrop of Dominica, encountering penguins on the Falklands, or being left in awe by Indonesia’s Komodo dragons, all of these remote islands share one common thread: they were home to some of my most unforgettable travel memories. Of course, deciding on the best islands to visit will vary depending on your interest, but if you’re seeking that ‘edge of the world’ feeling, then these remote isles are the perfect choice for spotting wildlife, relishing adventures, and reconnecting with raw nature. A whale’s tail sighted from a boat in the Azores The Azores For verdant volcanic walks and whale-watching  Starting a little closer to home, especially if you’re travelling from Europe or the west coast of the USA, the Azores – an autonomous archipelago of Portugal – are a true adventure playground. Rising spectacularly from the cerulean waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the nine inhabited volcanic islands all have similarities, such as epic hiking trails and verdant vistas, while retaining their own personalities. Long an in-the-know wild isles getaway, the Azores have had the spotlight turned on them in recent years. This is in no small part to being a year-round cetacean spotting destination, although the peak whale-watching season runs from April until October. From all the islands, boat trips depart into the deep blue to spot these magnificent marine mammals, with São Miguel – the largest island and gateway to the group – offering the most extensive choice of sailings.  But apart from being renowned wildlife islands, the Azores are also riddled with handsome hiking trails that pass through dense forests, climb up soaring peaks, and linger alongside colourful hydrangeas. São Miguel is also loved for its geothermal activity and hot springs, and surfers and water sports fanatics are equally spoiled. While there are no ferry sailings to the islands from Portugal, you can get around the Azores without a car, using public transport and some inter-island ferries. However, a vehicle and domestic flights are needed to explore every corner of the archipelago.  The Galapagos Islands For endemic wildlife, giant tortoises, iguanas and island-hopping Renowned for their pristine landscapes, conservation projects, and endemic fauna and flora, the Galapagos Islands are some of the most wildlife-heavy isles you can visit. Sitting around 600 miles off Ecuador’s coast, the best way to see the island’s native wildlife is by choosing from one of the many exciting Galapagos island expeditions available, as island-hopping by boat will allow you to cover more ground across the 120-plus island archipelago.  The most famous resident of these unspoilt isles is arguably the Galápagos giant tortoise, which can grow to around 5 feet. Still, with hundreds of endemic species (including birds and marine life) calling the island group home, there are plenty more wildlife spotting opportunities to get excited about. Standouts include the Galapagos penguin, Lava lizards, Marine iguanas and the Galapagos hawk, a scarce bird of prey. Then there are the numerous non-native species, such as sea lions, albatrosses, and the colourful Lightfoot crabs. Snorkelling and scuba diving are equally excellent ways to experience the underwater side of the Galapagos, with sea turtles, rays, and shoals of tropical fish thriving in the protected waters.  But these remote islands aren’t only about seeing the residents; there are plenty of (responsible) low-impact adventure activities you can enjoy during your visit. Hiking around active volcanoes, surfing the less-crowded
swell and kayaking amongst sea lions are just three of the adventures awaiting these near Eden-like isles.  Kayak around the shipwrecks and wildlife of Stanley, The Falkland Islands The Falkland Islands  For solitude, sheep, seals and penguins aplenty Forget any ideas of a luxury island escape on the Falkland Islands. These rough, rugged, and windswept outposts of the United Kingdom are true wild isles where sheep outnumber humans by the thousands. But the main reason to visit the Falkland Islands isn’t the little lambs; it’s the million-plus penguins that nest across the archipelago. With less than 20 of the numerous isles inhabited – and even then, some only have a population of two – these are genuinely remote islands where days can pass without a conversation, let alone seeing a convenience store. Sadly, the islands are still remembered by many for one thing only: the Falkland Islands War with Argentina, which developed due to the (ongoing) dispute over the Islas Malvinas – the Spanish name for the archipelago. But if you ask me, the real owners of these lands are the five species of penguins you can spot here. Rockhopper, Macaroni, Magellanic, King and Gentoo all have vast colonies, and seeing them bunched together at Volunteer Point is one image which will be forever imprinted on my mind. Over the two weeks I spent in the Falkland Islands, I embarked on various adventures, starting with an Army flight leaving an RAF base in the UK. Kayaking around shipwrecks and playful seals, boarding tiny planes to reach the outer isles, and taking hauntingly silent walks to white sand beaches are all staples of a trip here. But it was the time spent watching playful penguins diving into the waters that was most precious. However, to see the grandest of the species – the Emperor penguin – you’ll need to head even further south.  Seeing a colony of penguins was a dream come true Antarctica  For snow-coated expeditions and Emperor penguins If there’s one true end-of-the-world adventure, it’s Antarctica. Sure, it’s the seventh continent rather than one island, but if anything, that adds to the experience, as you’ll need to opt for one of the ever-growing cruises around Antarctica, which depart from South America, to visit. An absolute bucket-list dream for me, a trip to this vast icy land is certainly not wallet-friendly, though it’s undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Still, with rising concerns about the effects of tourism here, keeping sustainability and responsibility in mind when planning your trip is a must. Luckily, it’s a place for learning, and ships voyaging here will be equipped with local specialists and marine biologists to preserve the pristine landscape. The main wildlife draw for many is the chance to see the endemic Emperor penguins, which can grow to be four feet tall. You’ll also have the chance to spot other species of penguins, whales (including Orcas), seals and various sea birds. Kayaking across the mirror-like waters while admiring the icy landscapes is an absolute dream of mine, and I honestly can’t think of any better wild island adventure. Wildlife sightings aplenty await The Faroe Islands  For secluded whale-watching and puffins with decent public transport One of The Faroe Islands’s biggest appeals is that no expedition ship is needed to explore them, as the 18 islands have a surprisingly impressive network of subsided buses and ferries. You can even reach the autonomous archipelago of Denmark by ferry from the mainland, with the ferry then continuing to Iceland. I’m currently in the final stages of planning my dream trip here, and in just a few weeks, I’ll be setting foot in Tórshavn, the regional capital. The main appeal for me is to understand the remote way of life and learn more about the Faroese people, although wildlife plays a big part in bringing the small annual contingent of visitors. Puffins are the big draw for many, and it’s believed around half a million pairs breed across the archipelago.
The best place to spot them is the island of Mykines, although the breeding season only runs from April until September. Dolphin and whale sightings are possible year-round, meaning those who brave the foggy and dark winters might even get a sighting. Other attractions on these remote islands include turf-roofed houses, dramatic waterfalls plunging into the chilly ocean, and optical illusion floating above the near-vertical cliffs. It looks like a destination where you can both lose and find yourself, and I’m excited to report my findings in a few weeks. Pin it: Epic Island Escapes for Wildlife and Adventures [ad_2] Source link

Yahoo News UK: Royals should pay slavery reparations, say nearly half of Brits - exclusive Yahoo News poll
The Royal Family haven't been well received in the Caribbean in recent years, with two tours undertaken last year ending in PR disaster. (Getty Images)
New polling has shown that nearly half of Brits support financial reparations being paid by the Royal Family over their historic links to the slave trade.
The Savanta poll commissioned by Yahoo shows a big difference in how the issue was viewed by different age groups, with younger generations supporting reparations more than their older counterparts.
It's another signal of just how polarising the royals have become, and why one expert thinks that they have "fallen victim to the culture wars"
youtube
Overall, 44% of Brits think that the Royal Family should make financial reparations for their role in the transatlantic slave trade, while 32% don't think they should and a further 22% don't know.
Watch: Royal Family 'has fallen victim to the culture wars'
Royal Family 'has fallen victim to the culture wars'
Royal experts have accused the House of Windsor of falling victim to the "culture wars" amid the fallout from the Sussexes' departure from the UK.In a panel discussion on the 'Future of the Monarchy' hosted by Yahoo News UK's royal executive editor Omid Scobie, journalist and broadcaster Afua Hagen said the monarchy had become more divisive than in previous times - citing the Firm's treatment of Meghan Markle and subsequent family split as reflecting a more polarised society."The royal family have fallen victim to the culture wars - it's presumed if you like Meghan then you're a lefty, if you like Kate then you're right, you vote this way, you vote that way," Hagan said, addressing the panel.Joining Omid were author and co-founder of the Women’s Equality Party, Catherine Mayer; King Charles’ biographer and royal editor at The Evening Standard Robert Jobson; and journalist and broadcaster Afua Hagan.Watch the full clip above
The polling comes after King Charles announced he would allow a historian into the royal archives as part of a research project being undertaken by Historic Royal Palaces into the royals' ties to slavery.
However, Rishi Sunak made clear in Parliament on 26 April that the UK government currently has no intention of apologising for the country's role in the historic atrocity.
Of all age groups, 18 to 24-year-olds (58%) supported the royals paying financial reparations most strongly; this support gradually decreased to only 29% in the over 65s.
Political affiliation also played a part in how people responded to the question: with Conservative and Brexit Party voters coming in the lowest in favour of reparations being paid, at 29% and 20% respectively. 68% of Brexit Party voters surveyed said the Windsors should not make any financial reparations.
SNP voters responded most strongly in favour of the royals at 68%, this was closely followed by Green Party voters at 59% and Labour voters at 57%.
56% of respondents who voted Leave in the 2016 EU referendum said the royals shouldn't pay reparations, compared to 32% of those voted Remain.
King Charles has previously spoken about the UK's history of slavery on several occasions.
Tumblr media
In 2018, he called it an "appalling atrocity" during a visit to Ghana, and in 2021 said that it "forever stains our history" during Barbados's official ceremony marking their transition to a republic and removal of Queen Elizabeth as their head of state.
Last year in Rwanda, Charles said in a speech that he "cannot describe the depths of [his] personal sorrow at the suffering of so many" and that he is working to "deepen [his] own understanding of slavery's enduring impact".
These sentiments have been echoed by Prince William, who expressed his "profound sorrow" over slavery during a visit to Jamaica.
However, as yet, no official apology has been given by the Royal Family for their part in the slave trade.
