So what do people write F1 fics about? Are there ships? Is it about the races?

Are there ships? Oh you are asking the right questions.

The short answer is yes, some of the literal best rpf ships ever exist in F1. These guys are constantly doing things that have you going "wtf that's the gayest shit I've ever seen in my life"

I cannot explain every ship, but here are a few of my personal favorites

Lestappen - Max Verstappen/Charles Leclerc Childhood rivals to current rivals(who are literally obsessed with each other) This is my F1 main ship, I love these two they are insane. Max is the 3-time world champion and Charles is trying to get the title himself. You might be asking, are they always gazing into each other's eyes like that? And the answer is yes(Charles literally tripped over a cameraman because he was staring at max)

Landoscar - Lando Norris/Oscar Piastri This is a new one. Oscar just became teammates with Lando this year and they have amazing chemistry. A very silly duo, Oscar is blunt and Lando is the most chaotic goofball british himbo you can imagine.

Galex - George Russell/Alex Albon Very good friends, they have grown up in their careers together. There is a whole history of sus moments and they are really supportive of each other. Also George is a walking meme with intense rage behind him, and Alex is the sweetest.

Charlos (also known as C²)- Charles Leclerc/Carlos Sainz They are teammates with Ferrari and get up to some extremely sus behavior. They also just goof around in YT videos. Their teammate dynamic is complex to say the least.

Fics often write about relationships and race/season drama. But there are a ton of aus as well. You will see many other ships as the multi-shipping possibilities are kinda endless. These are a few of my faves, anyone feel free to comment your favorite F1 ship below.

Another thing you see a lot of is wish fulfillment when it comes to certain driver's seasons. Is my fave not doing well this season? well in this fic he got the car of his dreams and is winning. Which is sometimes extremely needed after certain race weekends let me tell you.

and also their loser bestfriend (/J NO HE ISNT) he is depression the character and i love him ❤, he's got the tism. the yippie if you know what i mean, he's actually the most interesing of the three tbh.

they are actually part of a much bigger story. but saying more would be spoilerssssss. tune in when i realese their askblog or whatever. they are my EVERYTHING (fun fact juan is 5'2, bruno and maria are 5'4, lol)

okay - i am seeing the rumblings on Carlos and the trope about promiscuous bi characters - I see you.

but I also - am trusting this week.

I am trusting Robbie and I am therefore trusting that the nuance will come - Carlos is set up to be pinning after Mary tbh - to turn into the overlook best friend trope I think.

The problems come when there are only single representations, and there are not a plethora of bisexual men on television, we never GET explicit bisexual representation that's not exploitative for the male gaze. On Buffy they wanted to make a prominent bisexual character but felt lucky to have permission to instead have a gay one. Rep is few and far between and complete and nuanced representation really requires more prominence on television, a variety of portrayals.

You cannot portray a rainbow using only a single color.

So clearly. The proper solution is to have more bi main characters on television. #MakeMaryBisexual2022 #CanonBiMary
