Note about HatCapUp - Callie is a super high poly mesh (30,000k i think?) so this might not show up if you have an older computer. JUNE 2019 DIMENSIONS ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULES & REVIEW

Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of June 30 KST:

A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly total).

A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on their monthly schedule.

Threads do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.

Overall Company

The company summer package DVD and photobook releases this month, so each artist will film a short video encouraging fans to buy the product at some point in the month. Following the Hawaii retreat, there’s talk around the company about their CEO’s absence, though he hasn’t been seen around the headquarters of the company often lately anyway.

She begins her North American tour at the end of the month, though Dimensions doesn’t currently plan on a big push in the market like they do for Unity and Alien, so she isn’t really doing much press while she’s there. Nevertheless, she has a devoted niche fan base in the states to warmly welcome her for her concerts.

He continues his music show promotions for his latest album after returning for the retreat and does his rounds of fan signs, including three outside of Seoul. Dimensions is paying extra attention to physical sales and buzz in online communities this comeback to gauge what venue to book for his first solo concert.

Gal.actic

Upper management has been giving their all to book Gal.actic CFs to get more positive associations with their names after their last comeback debacle. It hasn’t been easy since a search of Gal.actic’s name still brings up more news of the injunction than anything else, but they’ve managed to land a CF deal with a mobile RPG Immortal Warrior conveniently catering to a male audience by giving each member a scene of their own asking, “Oppa, what do you want to do?”. Word is that they’ll also begin filming a reality show following their comeback, so the girls are asked to prepare a pitch for a reality show concept to present to their management that will be filmed and included in the reality show. The actual concept has already been decided, so the filming is entirely for the entertainment value.

Important dates:

June 20: Immortal Warrior CF filming.

June 29: Reality show concept pitch filming.

Alien

Alien have booked another brand deal, this time with sportswear brand Kappa Korea, which they’re scheduled to film CFs for the brand after returning from a performance in Norway. Each member will get their own highlighted CF, and the group will also shoot a photo shoot for one of the brand’s F/W collections later in the month. This is all in between studio recordings for their next comeback and continued English lessons for their American activities while Dimensions shops around for an American label to sign a contract with, signalling that expansion into the Western market remains in the plans for Alien.

Important dates:

June 11: Performance at Voyage to K-Pop concert in Oslo, Norway.

June 15: Kappa summer CF filming.

June 27: Kappa F/W photo shoot.

MARS

Their Youtube cover project is put on pause this month so that they can focus completely on their comeback and build anticipation from anyone who’s been checking out their covers. They film the single MV mid-month, and then film a CF for California Beach, a water park in Gwangju, later in the month. It’s their first CF in a while since their frequently darker and theatrical image doesn’t make them the most in-demand group on the CF market.

Important dates:

June 14: Callin’ M/V filming.

June 20: California Beach CF filming.

7ROPHY

The track list and concepts for their next comeback are finished, so they’ll be in the studio recording this entire month. They’ve also booked a photo shoot with 1st Look magazine thanks to their recent increase in popularity, though the members don’t have much experience with magazine photoshoots despite their four years in the business. At the end of the month, they’re being named City Ambassadors for Seoul Metropolitan City, which will come with promotional duties for the city, and will attend an ambassador inauguration ceremony at the end of the month. It seems like Dimensions finally cares about them enough again to seek out publicity opportunities, but the 7ROPHY members should know better than anyone how fleeting management’s favor can be.

June 9: Performance at Asia Model Festival (also attending: Aria).

June 11: Photoshoot for July issue of 1st Look magazine.

June 15: 2019 K-Pop Artist Festival in Seoul.

June 27: Seoul Metropolitan City Ambassador ceremony at Sewoon Hall in Seoul, South Korea (also attending: BEE).

Unity

The members get another short break in Seoul, which will involve a lot of recording for their comeback album, including learning the title track choreography, they’ll take off to return to the states and start their North American tour, which they’ll finish off next month. In addition to Good Morning America and Strahan and Sara appearances, where they’ll do their first performance of their yet to be released comeback track, the members will be doing a lot of miscellaneous radio and online promotion targeted at the American audience with the help of the marketing department of the American label Dimensions has signed a distribution deal with.

Important dates:

June 9: K-Pop World Music Festival at Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines (also performing: Fuse).

June 19: Unity 1st North America Tour concert at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, USA.

June 20: Appearance on Good Morning America, Appearance on Strahan and Sara.

June 21: Unity 1st North America Tour concert at Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta, GA, USA.

June 23: Unity 1st North America Tour concert at Watsco Center in Miami, FL, USA.

June 26: Unity 1st North America Tour concert at The Theatre at Grand Prairie in Dallas, TX, USA.

June 28: Unity 1st North America Tour concert at Comerica Center in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

Lucid

They’re not in the country when their comeback drops, but as soon as they’re back on Korean soil, a successful round of promotions is the number one priority, and that’s exactly what they’ll achieve. Their song will tie 7ROPHY’s latest comeback as the highest peaking digital performance of any of Dimensions’ girl group songs in recent memory. They can’t quite match 7ROPHY’s recent physical performance even after fan signs all around Korea due to losing some of their fan base with the concept change, but management remains hopeful due to increased popularity in online male communities. This comeback cements Lucid as a rising group to talk about and will bring in more new fans than any of their previous releases. As is common for rising rookies, they’re also scheduled to film a somewhat awkwardly cute video, “Tap Water Song”, celebrating the merits of tap water for an SBS campaign. It’ll be good for Dimensions’ connections, if nothing else.

Education and Opportunity: Interns share their stories

Throughout the year, BAX hires two interns to work in the Education Department: a Community Outreach/YouthWorks Intern, hired to help facilitate our YouthWorks Festival & Teen Arts Conference and assist with our public school partners/teachers in residence as part of our Arts in Education programming, and an Education Intern, chosen to work closely within our walls and with our teachers and students on a day-to-day, internal basis, assisting with classes, student concerts and the like.

BAX strives to bring people who are transparently moving through the world in socially equitable ways into the community. This mirrors BAX’s work with organizations like the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB) and Race Forward. Our staff members attend meetings, seminars, and workshops dedicated to developing and improving upon racial and social equity within organizations, especially through the lens of serving the arts community.

Two of our interns for the 2018-19 Education season are Brooke Rucker (Education Intern) and Charlie Fischetti (Community Outreach/YouthWorks Intern). At this point in our season, Brooke has left after being here from August through January, and Charlie has just extended his stay with us to continue working with BAX until this summer. The two had a slight overlap, however did not work side-by-side on a lot of the same projects, as they have had different timelines here.

Charlie, Brooke and I recently sat down for a quick sip at a café nearby BAX. On a sunny day, we had a joyful little reunion (as neither Charlie or I had seen much of Brooke since January). We settled in for a moment, grabbed some coffees, and got into it.

What was your general experience throughout the season working at BAX?

BR: BAX’s principles of racial equity and gender equality were already aligned with what I was interested in. [And] then being with the Education Department, I was really able to start practicing these things, especially with children, because they’re already so young, and still so impressionable…I began to really start to notice the language I was using with children through that lens. When I entered [this position] at BAX those were the conversations we just kept having: how are we engaging with these kids, and how are we engaging with these parents?

CF: Yeah, I had the same sort of experience. All of my admin work became informed by those values and I kept kind of going back to them, in things that are beyond, like, strict data entry.

We got into discussing the differences between having these kinds of conversations with kids and adults. Something we’ve all started to notice when working with or around children is that they are often much more intuitive about these things than we might have expected them to be. And yet along with that, we’ve all witnessed or heard about moments where their learned social conventions are challenged and we see a glimpse of curiosity, or are met with questions rather than confirmations. It’s quite eye-opening to think about this comparatively between conversations we’ve had with adults and with children.

BR: I feel like it’s so engrained in us…like we don’t even realize how deeply our gender roles live in us…I remember reading [a teacher]’s post, and they were talking about how they were trying to introduce themselves to their students: you can call me, you know, Ms., Mr., Mx., it’s like those little things you don’t even think about, like when introducing yourself; what do the kids, you know, call you?

CF: And the teachers have really good insight into those things… gender is something that affects everybody, and race also affects everybody, but people often only think about those things affecting people who are marginalized by gender and by race. But it really is a part of everybody’s experiences, and I think [it’s important] if you have privileges or disadvantages, to bring those up; that [privilege] doesn’t mean you can’t talk about it and that it doesn’t affect you.

I find these conversations easier to have with kids [than adults].

We began recalling moments we’ve encountered where kids say things or respond to prompts in a conventionally gendered manner. For example, asking kids to assume a character and noticing that all the girls chose feminine archetypes, like princesses or fairies, and all the boys chose more masculine archetypes, like superheroes. How do we approach and respond to these moments?

CF: It’s not like you can’t be princesses, but think about the other options!

BR: I feel like it’s more like, opening their awareness; like its ok if you wanna be this, but you can also be this too, it is acceptable.

CF: I think especially in creative things, especially with kids, it really reveals a lot about things that kids are learning and are exposed to at early ages. And it’s never too early to talk about those issues, because they’re already being exposed to it… Yeah I mentioned something, about having a boyfriend once; this kid was like “my hair is purple,” and I was like, “oh yeah that’s my boyfriend’s hair color,” and a lot of the kids were like, alright that’s fun, but then there were a few who kind of challenged me on it, or would say, “that’s weird,” and I said, “why is it weird?”

What as individual people did you bring to the table in your position?

BR: For me, it’s definitely being a black woman. I feel like anywhere I go, when I’m entering a space, bringing that, is like bringing everything. I think it was great for kids to get to see that in the space; black kids and white kids, because I feel like we are always “oh the black people, you know cater to the black kids and they’re their role models, but it’s also important for the white kids to be able to see that black people are in these positions [and spaces].

CF: I’ve brought more video and photo knowledge, and I think that has extended beyond education, which has been really fun. I’m working towards making changes in how…especially in education, like opening up documentation conversations with young kids, like there’s no correct answer but I think having sort of base line, ethical rules is a good place to start, ‘cause it can get, complicated and voyeuristic and seem like taking advantage when that’s obviously the opposite of what we’re trying to do.

And also as a trans person, I’ve been enjoying navigating that, especially since this is my first work experience where I don’t have to—people will gender me correctly if I don’t say anything, so it’s interesting, now I have the option to bring it up. I’ve not always been in spaces like that. And I think there’s also a balance between wanting to be a representation for kids but then also knowing that my experience is still a slim representation of the trans experience, so I think having other trans and gender non-conforming people in the space has been great, because I’ve always been like, the trans person in the space.

What were some challenges/questions you came up against?

BR: I think for me, my only challenge, per se, was that I didn’t know how to advocate or ask for more, ‘cause there were some times where I felt like I wanted to take on more or I wanted to learn more in the admin world. Everyone is super busy, and you don’t always have time to just sit down and teach someone things, but looking back at it now, I wish that I would have. Because that’s what the internship is for, like for you to learn from this organization. I don’t know if it’s necessarily categorized as a challenge, but just looking back it’s something that I wish that I would have done more of.

CF: Yeah, I think the fact that my internship has been extended now, going in I wanted to be more involved with marketing, and that is happening now, which is really great. Cross-departmental collaboration and things like this [are some things] I think a lot of organizations struggle with.

I didn’t really have any experience with kids before, so I think that was one of my biggest—I don’t know if challenge is even the right word, it was just new for me. There’s no like, if this situation happens, here’s what to do, you just, gotta roll with it…sometimes kids come up with things and I’m [not sure] how to respond.

Highlights, favorite part of your job, any moments that stood out?

BR: I do have this one moment. For [two of our After School Pick Up students, we’ll call them Ella and Jake for these purposes], their parent personally spoke to me when I first started picking them up and requested that I hold their hands, when we cross the street. So [Ella] like, always would hold my hand, like she loved holding hands but you know, [Jake] wasn’t really about it. [Laughs] So anyway one day we were walking back and I had Ella’s hand and all of a sudden, I felt this hand, reaching for mine, while we were crossing the street, and it was [Jake]; he had just put his hand in mine and I was like, my heart right now! [Chuckles] I was like, “don’t say anything Brooke, just keep walking.” [Laughs]

CF: In YouthWorks, there were these two kids waiting for their dress rehearsal, it was maybe a day before the show, and this one girl was really panicking like, “oh no I don’t know my lines, I don’t know the positions…” and I just leaned down and sat with her and was just said like, “Well, what can I do to make you more comfortable?” I really didn’t try to impose; I just said, “Communicate to me your needs,” which I think is an important practice for kids. We kind of talked through what her actual worries were; because sometimes kids will say something but they actually mean something else, but they don’t know that they mean something else. We worked through communicating her actual needs.

Pieces of advice for the next person stepping into your position?

BR: I told Aviya [our current Education Intern] to take agency in the position, to make it her own. Go in there to help, but also to take. Take everything that you can, and don’t feel bad about really showing that you’re hungry and you’re really doing this to feed yourself.

CF: I think both of our positions, there are definitely tasks that you have to do throughout, but don’t be afraid to go beyond those, and bring your experiences, your passions…everything is valuable, and being honest about what you need is important, whether that is being underwhelmed or overwhelmed. I’ve always felt like if there is too much on my plate, [at BAX] I feel comfortable going to somebody and asking for that, asking for prioritizing certain things which has always been an issue for me, I’m usually just like, “well I’m just gonna handle it on my own and try to do all of it. But that’s unhealthy…it’s a point of growth.

BR: it was a really great internship. And it came exactly when I needed it. I had just moved to New York, and I was just looking for something to grab a hold of, and it popped up; and I met so many people through it who have now become my community.

CF: BAX really is the intersection of a lot of organizations.

Charlie will be joining us as a Lead Counselor for our Summer Arts Program. This year, he was an Assistant Cameraperson for "Overstigmatized 2: The Stigma Stops Here," a feature-length thriller produced by Global Action Project about the role of criminalization and police violence towards trans womxn of color. (see the trailer HERE). This summer he will also be resuming production as a cinematographer for a film directed by his friend Ashley Turzio. It's the story of a single immigrant mother who leaves her child behind and moves to New York to give her child a chance at a better life.

I'm going to start rewatching the old series on Tubi and I'll make notes of how it can be super duper gay, but here are some thoughts based on what I remember:

First of all, we've got queer rock stars, what else do you want?

The plot of Jerrica being a normal girl and then during into a super-fem rock star just screams trans girl to me. Like, she's closeted because she owns a large record company and rich people hate women, so it's easier to just not say anything. But then she's given the chance to present in rip-your-eyeballs-out hot pink and all the neons like the way she's always wanted and does have to out herself?? That's awesome and I'm crying. Also she's mspec because she is.

For the rest of the band? All of them are some flavor of queer. I can see some feminine non-binarys, some good WLW action (because media is lacking of it), perhaps an aro character because I'm aro and I'm super cool.

Also, Pizzazz? The lead vocalist and guitarist of Jem and the Holograms rival, the Misfits? Yeah, she's Jem's ex. That's it. (Homoerotic battle of the bands, please and thank you)

Roxy, Stormer, and Jetta are in a polyamorous relationship (pizzazz is that meme where the one person in the friend group always felt left out only to realize all of their friends were in a polycule).

I could be misremembering, but I think Jerrica ran a foster home? I think it's possible to maybe turn it into a shelter for young homeless queer kids. Maybe, Im still on the fence.

POC Jerrica and Kimber?? I'm all for some indigenous characters, but open to feedback.

An Aja and Shana childhood friends-to-friends with benifits-to-lovers storyline? (If that were to happen, I'd want to make the Benton sisters non-white so I'm not just pairing off the only POC characters)

Just like in the She-ra reboot, I want more body types! I would give my first born child (/j, just in case any witches are reading this) to have a fat, trans, feminine, queer rock star. Like, gjskdhskj.

Also I really want one of the holograms to have a chronic illness like EDS or POTS or CFS/ME that requires them to use a mobility aid because I want that for my disabled friends

Please talk to me about this, I am begging.

I want nothing more in the world than an animated Jem and the Holograms reboot that follows in the super queer footsteps of She-ra. There is so much potential. The original was already the gayest show I watched as a kid, so imagine if the story was trying to be queer. Like, ND Stevenson? Are you free for the next 5 years?

Aradia is placeholder-chan. Member of the occult club when she was alive and she was H Y P E D about death. Her greyish shade, monotone otherwordly voice and eyes staring into the Void are her ways of showing excitement

Tavros is a member of the gaming club though he plays card instead of video games (except pokemon which he played every and all existing versions and forms of the game). is bullied.

Sollux is annoyedlord’s gema. Head of gaming club. Does not care. Does not want to care. Just want to code. Go away. NO HE WON’T MAKE AN OFFICIAL REQUEST FOR THE CLUB

Dirk is a member of the science club. Helps cleaning the explosion. The rest of the club is entirely composed of his robots

Roxy is a member of the gaming club. She competes with sollux on coding. She sometimes helps the science club. Sneaks alcohol into school that somehow flies under the student council’s radars.

Jake is Budo. He is hyped about self defense and heroism but he needs to chill out and work on his agressive recruitment methods. trains to beat the science club members aka robots and Dirk. And jade sometimes throws inventions at him. Which explodes. The school staff is very tired of their “light spirited strifes between chaps”.’’

Damara is ghost girl. She knows her murderer’s descendant is in the school and she is revengefull. There will be blood

Rufioh is Asu Rito. he likes to enlist his friend into the sports club. As the club’s leader he’s very popular and he knows it

Mituna is a delinquant. 2cool4school. He needs helps with his pompadour in the morning which he will immediatly ruin with his helmet but he’s cool so they don’t kick him out of the club. Also latula would kick their ass and Vriska thinks he’s fun

Kankri is a member of the student council. Uses his whistle in the library when students are too loud. gets kicked out of the library for whistling. Strongly opposes bullying but his constant remprimands on socialy unadapted student can sometime appear as similar. also tends to encourage self-loathing instead of actual recovery. “Th9ugh I d9 enc9urage dial9gue instead 9f vi9lent means, have y9u c9nsidered that entering a therapist’s waiting r99m with scarificati9n marks c9uld be triggering t9 the 9ther patients ?” “OMG K4NKR1 NO SHUT UP D:< !! Horrus is a former member fo the science club which he left for the sports club when Rufioh became the leader. is very insecure about himself and his choices, kinda miss the science club but trusts Rufioh.

Kurloz is a member of the occult club. obsessed with demon summoning. Would probably be bullied if he didn’t scared the shit out of everyone. Rose constantly keep him in check and refuses that his girlfriend joins the club. Meulin’s boylfriend

Cronus is Spiky. Great Master of The PompadourTM. Tries too much. Pretends he smokes. His big brother actually kills people. Was the delinquants’ leader before Vriska arrived “Back off doll this ain’t a place for a chick like you. Unless, you came to see m- OWV STOP PLEASE THIS HURT” “::::D”

Meenah is Musume. Loanshark’s daughter, mean, filthy rich, doesn’t like to do boring stuff and has her yes on senpai to kill him.

Pop is the headmaster and instead of a tazer he uses pranks

Mom is the teachers. all of them. and the nurse. and the psychiatrist. at least she’s not the lunchlady. probably not.

Bro is ayano. He is a creep. And a dick. And an abuser. and a dick. annoyedlord would like me to let you know that Bro is also a dick

Grandpa is the sport teacher. he uses tigers and cheetas to make his sudents run faster

dad is the policemen. All of them. The entire policeforce of the town is dad. at least he’s not the lunchlady. probably not

nana is the detective. she’s probably the tunchlady
