I’m a fan of Henry Cavill so I was looking forward to seeing his new movie “Argylle”. I didn’t know much about the plot, except what was revealed in the trailer. And I decided not to read any reviews or check its Rotten Tomatoes score before buying my ticket.

I saw it last night at an early screening (I was one of only three people in the theater). I guess everyone else read the reviews.

For Cavill’s sake, I wish I could say I loved it. But… to cut to the chase… “Argylle” is a mess… a convoluted, tonally uneven bloated mess.

In the fictional world of the movie, Bryce Dallas Howard plays a writer of spy novels. But somehow her plots contain details about a real spy agency. When her life is threatened, Sam Rockwell plays an agent sent to protect her and guide her to safety.

Meanwhile we are given glimpses of her fictional spy called Argylle, played by Henry Cavill (with his much talked about, over the top, hair cut).

Early in the movie there are some fun sequences where Rockwell’s spy is fighting assassins on a train, but Howard sees Cavill doing all the stunts and giving her an occasional wink.

Cavill’s fictional Spy was over the top. So you might think Rockwell would play the real spy more seriously. Nope. Rockwell’s entire performance was played for comedy, with irritating quips sprinkled throughout. So the “real” world was more unbelievable than Argylle’s make believe world.

After Cavill disappears about half way through, we are given an incredible plot twist only to be followed by two more incredible plot twists. What happens is not worth repeating here other than to say director Michael Vaughn decided to turn frumpy 42 year old Howard into an action star. Sorry… not buying it. (The only believable thing she did was to take off her high heeled shoes before running away?)

BTW, the cat featured in the trailer spends nearly all of the movie in a plastic backpack. Cat lovers might worried the cat didn’t have enough oxygen to breathe. But don’t worry about it, I strongly suspect that most of the time the cat was CGI.

Throughout the film, many times I had the sense that the actors were standing in front of green screens, as the backgrounds had an artificial quality about them. Has AI already taken over Hollywood?

“Argylle” was produced by Apple’s film studio, so if you’re planning to see it, don’t bother buying a ticket… it will be released later this year on their streaming service.

A movie about Henry Cavill’s fictional spy would have been so much more fun than the convoluted mess Michael Vaughn shat out.

I have hit my first serious barrier with Jar Full of Cosmos, and that is the fact that my little laptop just doesn't have enough compute power. Unfortunately it's too laggy to effectively experiment with materials and do a better job grooming--not to mention animation tests. Thankfully, I have new PC components on the way. In other good news, the fur system obscures pretty much all my bad mesh deformations. It also obscures his facial movements, but I planned for that and intend to do most of his emoting with ear and eye movements. Next time I make an animal, I think I'll use shapekeys instead of bones for facial animation.

The groom holds up from afar (and with lower resolutions) but up close it needs a lot more work. It's also worth noting that I am using the old particle system because the geometry nodes still feel too confusing, and apparently they can't be animated.

Dating a cat hybrid would be so strange.

You’d just randomly find her sitting in boxes throughout the day, you would never really entirely understand why.

Her getting the zoomies when you got home from work would drive you up the wall. She means well but… she really needs to take it down a notch sometimes.

She would be the best cuddler, soft, fluffy and purring until she randomly decided to bite you and shatter whatever warm feelings you were having.

She’d have to be so very gentle when eating you out. Her barbed tongue verging on the edge of painful with every lick. She would have you seeing stars though, but with her feline oral fixation it might also be the death of you.

Merlin can shape-shift in the legends, so just imagine him turning into an actual bird and defecating on Arthur’s head for shit and giggles.

Ehm, so maybe you excepted something smarter, but that’s it.

Just Merlin’s usual shenanigans but as an animal.

He turns into a cat and purrs into Arthur’s soft furs and sleeps between his legs and Arthur complains but ends up cuddling him, then he wakes up with Merlin in his human form between his arms and kicks him out of the bed to fetch breakfast so Merlin turns into a goat and stares into Arthur’s eyes and eats his blankets instead.

Merlin as a dog going around barking at Arthur while he trains to scare him to bits.

Merlin as an horse pooping over Arthur’s bed roll in the woods during a patrol so they sleep together *a chorus of ‘awww’ heard in the distance*

Just Merlin’s idiot version but like in a farm.
