I also want to point out, if you’re a latine out of Latin america, seeking reconnection to your roots, or even if you’re still here but want to deepen ties to your ancestors, culture, etc. Brujería is a cultural practice, and it isn’t the only one. Culture can be folk magic, but it can also be playing instruments, dancing, writing, singing, stories and myths, and much more. If you want to reconnect, brujería isn’t the only route and it definitely shouldn’t be the only path you take to get closer to your folks. You should be walking all these at the same time, at different levels sure, because maybe history interests you more than music, or you have a gift for singing and not dancing, but you should be aware and connected to it all, not just the magic.
Because then you aren’t in for reconnecting, you’re in for “oo shiny that makes me different and gives me power” and that’s not reconnection. That’s ego.
Reconnecting involves community and Elders. Eventually, and through the elders in your community, you’ll find out what role you’re meant to fulfill in your community. We all have one. The Healer and the Witch are just as important as the Doctor, the Lawyer, the Musician, the Storyteller, the Historian, the Scientist, etc. Maybe you have more than one gift. Maybe none of those gifts has to do with magic. Maybe your gift isn’t conjuring spirits, but it’s playing violin, or piano, or dancing, or writing, or practicing the law and defending the innocent, or tending the land and protecting ancestral agriculture techniques, every gift isn’t about witchcraft and it doesn’t have to be magic to be magical.

127: Carlos Di Fulvio // De nadie y de todos
Tumblr media
De nadie y de todos Carlos Di Fulvio 1985, Estudio Gismondi Producciones La Plata
I fell in love with Argentinian guitar music a few years ago after purchasing a pair of LPs by Atahualpa Yupanqui, the folklorist and payador who from the ‘30s on did much to popularize his nation’s unique fusion of Spanish and Indigenous music on the domestic and international stage. My collection of the genre is very small, but I’m very fond of this 1985 release by Carlos Di Fulvio, an elegant player active since the late 1950s whom I’d recommend to anyone with an appreciation for romantic balladeers. Di Fulvio, who as of 2023 is still alive, has a Spanish Wikipedia entry that reads like the work of a PR flack (and/or, more generously, a big fan), but the following roughly translated description strikes me as fair: “Di Fulvio's circumspect and profound style is the opposite of those frenetic requests for clapping and the fluttering of ponchos: ‘I always understood that the guitar is a chamber instrument; not for crowds but for those who can be silent and listen.’” And indeed, unlike the rural originators of the folk tradition or the post-1950s generation of popular musicians who embraced its aesthetics, Di Fulvio's natty attire on the black and white sleeve of De nadie y de todos [From Nobody and From Everyone] looks more like a mid-century LP than something from the mid-‘80s.
youtube
The album is predominantly a solo guitar affair, played fingerstyle with masterly skill (see his take on Yupanqui’s “Zambita del alto verde”) and refinement. He is a fine singer as well, passionate and warm, but never excessively sentimental. The majority of the compositions are Di Fulvio’s, sometimes in collaboration with friends and fellow songwriters Mario Ponce and Ricardo Rodriguez Molina (who guests on the closing track, a lovely vidala called “Evocacion del susqueño”). As is usually the case with non-English LPs, the words are largely lost on me, but the excerpts on the back of the sleeve hint at a contemplative lyrical sensibility: “Those who walk away singing / Never fully leave.”
Like many Argentine musicians of his generation, Di Fulvio suffered under considerable censorship during his early career but today enjoys status in his own country as one of the major figures in his genre, though he seems to be little known outside of the Hispanosphere. I’m always on the lookout for more of his work, and if you happen to see any of his music in the wild it’s likely worth snapping up, as these guys tend to be consistent.

A Tokyo Record Style FIRST! The album photographed here, Argentinian in origin, Las Grandes Creacions de Antonio Tormo, scored by this cute couple that I met outside Tower Records in Shibuya, has no Discogs listing and is nowhere to be streamed – a record that is officially off the grid, proving yet again, that if you want access (and knowledge of existence) to the full breadth of music available, record stores are still your best bet. And the fact that I can’t listen to this album, except directly from Akira and Noa’s copy pictured here, makes me want to listen to it all the more! What a find! So much young and vibrant energy was emanating off these two as we chatted about music and about their last live shows, and the music they love. They mentioned last seeing J-alt-rockers, One OK Rock, seeing past and looking forward to future Summer Sonic festivals, and a love for K-Pop. Akira mention that he’s part of a creative unit called “Bandit” (@bandit_maskedriders) who produce Hip Hop, dance, and electronic music – I gave them a listen - quite cool! When I heard this, I asked him if he happened to know of another similarly creative unit called “Killa” or the recording artist and member, KEPHA, both he and Noa lit up and said OF COURSE. I mentioned that I’m also a KEPHA fan, and that his father is a close personal friend of mine, and co-host of my PechaKucha Podcast, “Top 5 Records” …the supremely cool, one and only, “bemsha!” So bemsha, if you’re reading this, relay these friendly sentiments on to KEPHA and tell him I met some of his fans on the streets of Shibuya. Maybe we should connect these two at the upcoming Tokyo Record Style Day, ahem, on March 19th from 2pm to 5pm (come one come all) …or anytime! Well folks, another day, another record, another style! More TRS on the way! #Tokyo #record #style #tokyorecordstyle #records #music #recordcollector #recordstore #vinyl #vinylrecord #Latin #Folk #World #Country #Zamba #Chacarera #Chamame #Copla #Argentina (at TOWER VINYL) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpcv_JhPo9V/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

(I'm boutta project hard, so let's get it out of the way): Angel, Guy, and Milo as Argentinians.
Angel will try to make traditional meals for David and fail miserably for most of them, but what they can do flawlessly is asado. Literally, the designated asador/a/e by their family. Boquense with their heart, will infodumb about futbol like a mf. They drink the mate HOT and sweet, like the water has to be BOILING for them to even consider taking a sip. They danced chacarera in elemental and high school and still keep the clothing. They refuse to show the photos to David (he still finds them anyway. He thinks they look adorable.)
Guy will go crazy for the selection and the World Cup/the America Cup even though he actually doesn't know much about futbol. Supports River (because he liked the colours). He makes the actual WORST mate ever. It's so sweet it's practically water, herbs, and sugar. Also, it's barely warm or room temp because he's afraid of getting burned. Only he likes his mate. He sings his heart out to La Princesita Karina even though he's never ever been through anything remotely like what she sings lmfao. He will pull Honey in to dance, and if it's a romantic song, he will sing it while looking into their eyes, even though they don't understand the lyrics.
Milo danced tango his entire childhood and will teach sweetheart. They dance at every solstice party. He has dad taste in music, meaning purely national rock, the occasional ballad if he feels romantic (he whispers the lyrics in sweetheart's ear/against their skin). He's a hot bitter mate lover, the type of mate that will make your face go bogdanoff. He's Racing 'till the end (as much as I want him to be of River, nah, he supports the same team as his mom.)

I've recentely started watching one piece, and i have obssesed with the clown, so in result now im obssesed with cross guild and bc im from argentina i now have a bunch of headcanons about this silly guys if they knew and understood for some reason music from here...
BUGGY would unironically listen to los wachiturros, las culisueltas, nene malo, and songs of heartbroken 50yr ladys with 6 divorces. also he would totally dance and sing along with his whole clussy to those. he would like to sing shit songs like leña para el carbon in front of crocodile and mihawk bc he knows they hate them. every summer the whole crew has to listen to marama, rumbai, el dipy and stuff bc he loves it. ALSO he would totally do a whole dramatic lipsync spectacle of him singing tita marelo's "se dice de mi" and it would be so flashy and awesome
CROCODILE gives el chaqueño. idc he just seems like the kind of guy reading the news at 6am with la ley y la trampa sounding in the back, also he listens and DANCES tango but nobody knows the dancing part. he also listens a lot of folklore, chacarera, and on chill saturdays he would listen to cuarteto like los palmeras and los tekis. he would surrender to the music and dance sabalero with buggy bc he just loves it and him and idk fluff happens. he just looks like he has my granpas music taste
MIHAWK looks like a rock guy, spinetta, los piojos, el indio solari, viejas locas, soda estereo, la vela puerca. all of that. he doesn't either sing or dance but he is vibing internally and thats all that matters. but i know he would sometimes find himself mumbling buggy's music and he would cringe and throw himself to the ocean or something, it happens at least twice a week

🇦🇷25 de Mayo Special🇦🇷 Star x Arg!Fem! Reader (a couple of silly things and travelling headcannons)
⊹ Feliz 25 de Mayo, viva la patria! ^^
⊹ ࣪ ﹏𓊝﹏𓂁﹏⊹ ࣪ ˖
• Cathleen do likes to travel, She enjoys a break from work (when She has one) so when you invited her to your country she was like an exited puppy, there was a month before the flight and she already knew basic Words, places she would like to see, food she would like to eat and that little data You can find in the touristic videos. It was cute tbh, it reminded You Of a kid on Disney.
•When both Of You arrived, She was ecstatic, Even if there was some sad things, like homeless people on the Main city, She would kindly give Them some money. You Didnt had the chance to change the dollars for pesos, so lets say that those homeless people were really really happy. (At the time i'm writing this, one dollar is equivalent of 890 pesos argentinos)
• For her, the food Is absolutely heavenly. She Isnt very picky With food, and the fact that is the food of Your land makes her like it even more. It's obvious that She likes asado, but She was amazed to see lots and lots of artisanal ice cream places. There was a gummy bear flavor in one of those places!
• Lets Say You wake up at Night only to find her infront of the fridge With a empanada on her mouth (sin doble sentido)
• You were driving to a little town that had a lagoon. San Miguel del Monte, a gorgeous place. Then You asked her "Gorda me cebas unos mates?" She then abruptly looked at You, confused "Did You just called me Fat?"
You then explained her that Gorda can Mean fat, but in argentinian mannerisms it is a pet name, like a "dearie/dear". You also explained that the word Torta means cake, but in argentinian mannerisms it also means Lesbian. She then let a loud "ooohhhhh i understand now!", She's very eager to learn and understand the jokes that your friends made. "If i'm a cake then... What cake would You think i would be?" - She said, in a joking manner with a smug smile. What cake would She be?
• Cassie dressed like a gaucho dancing "chacarera del olvido" with Y/N dressed up as a paisana.. She would try her hardest to dance, and she actually does decently! The shy look an her face after it is priceless! Please fill her face With kisses and tell her She made it right! (SOMEONE PLEASE DRAW THAT)
• She would use the Boca Juniors oversiced shirt you gifted her as a Pijama. Imagine the sight Of her with that shirt and her undies. Her face still groggy as She asks You if there are some remaining coquitos bc She LOVES THEM.
• Imagine her in a typical party, the saturated cumbia on the speakers, then. El carnaval carioca.
• She would be confused, but trying Her best. Someone gave her a matraca and some silly spectacles. She looks so cute yet ankwardly trying to blend in, the Mountain of a woman in the train of party people, she looks at you with a face that screams "take me out of here, im confused and scared", but when the ankwardness goes away, She enjoys the party. But She's still confused about the Meneaito. If You want to laught Your ass off and then get punished in bedroom by her, make her dance alongside the family. Don't forget to record her!
• As an important person, She attended some military parties, and got interested in learning the history of the land of her beloved. Because it's not only gauchos and meat. Not even tango!
• She got herself like five books, which She reads at night (With her reading glasses, that make her look 20/ more hotter). She wants to know more of the woman She loves and swears to protect, and part of her is the history of the land that saw her grow.
• Cathleen wants to be an expert in the T/N subject, not only her tastes and body languaje, She want to know what You learned at school when You were little, those nostalgic flavors you tasted, those party nights that left You dysphonic, and much more. Cassie wants to know her little Star like the palm of her hand<3
𓆉𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟𓇼
𓆟 Hi guys, sorry for the delay, i had lots Of work to do. The next work is going to be "Songs That remind me Of Star". A personal take, it's going to have songs that i think She would listen, and songs that i listen and that I associate with her.
𓆉I hope You liked it, i'll try to make it better next time!

My Creek Design to my new AU!
Which I have no idea how to name! Yei!
So, Creek survived after the end of Trolls 1 (barely) He ended up very far from Pop Tree, very damaged, amnesiac, half blind (he can actually "see" but it's just like colored spots and that's just barely) ; He is also mute sometimes (I mean, there are days when he wakes up and his mind says "I don't want to talk today", it happens a lot), he knows sign language (in mostly Spanish and English).
But why mostly Spanish? Well, because why was it adopted by a new community of trolls based on Argentine folklore and other Latin countries. Their caretakers are: Anahí, A chacarera troll and ruler & Melina , A Gato troll, Anahi's wife and judge of the province. I don't have the finished design yet (I'm horrible at drawing feathers and jaguars but I try), I'll share it too.
PS: Tresillo, Marimba and Tambora come from here, it's like in our world. It is a large island that they decided to divide into countries and then those from the same countries divided themselves into musical genres within their selected territory.

Al compás de la chacarera
Tumblr media
