Been rewatching Heartbreak High to prepare for season 2 and, while I love the show as a whole, I have to say the Ca$h/Darren storyline might just be one of my favorite queer stories ever. I'm so excited to see what they do with these characters next.

Linked above is a folder with zip files for each episode of Heartbreak High Season One. This cast includes: Ayesha Madon, Thomas Weatherall, Chloe Hayden, Asher Yasbincek, James Majoos, Brodie Townsend, Will McDonald, Sherry-Lee Watson, Gemma Chua-Tran, and Bryn Chapman Parish All of these screencaps were made by me using 1080p footage. Maki: Vivaldi's Winter to listen to, and Bruch Violin Concerto to perform. Bruch was the first "serious" concerto Maki has learned, and it's her most polished piece of repertoire.

Karin: Mendelssohn violin concerto to listen to, and Ysaÿe Violin Sonata №3 to perform. The Ysaÿe is just her showing off, honestly.

Kairi: Chopin's "Torrent" etude to listen to, and La Campanella to perform (also showing off). He has set his aim high and he'll follow through.

Suzuka: Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto №2 to perform. No strong opinions on the listening part, she'll listen to most anything.

Akari: Playing God by Polyphia to listen to; no strong opinions on the performance part!

Reishi: Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto to listen to, Prokofiev Flute Sonata in D major to perform. He's just vibing.

So, Heartbreak High has been renewed for a third and final season. I don't want it to end so soon, but I guess it's better than getting canceled without a proper finale 🙃

I keep seeing people being surprised/shocked about Touya starting piano lessons at 3 years old, and can I just say... Yeah, that's super common in classical music. My guess was actually 4 years old, 5 if we're being generous; 3 is still on an earlier side, but it's sadly extremely common.

Chloe Chua started at piano at 2 and a half years old, started violin at 4. Ray Chen, started violin at age of 4. Hilary Hahn, 3 years 11 months, violin. Joshua Bell, 4, violin. Leia Zhu, 3, violin. These are all just people I can list from the top of my head - and all of them are still playing and genuinely love classical music.

I'm not saying that's a good thing. Honestly, the ethical debate on this can go on and on, so feel free to cast your own judgement; but classical music industry is practically built on child abuse, and it's extremely rampant in it. But you also can't deem an early start as something that's inherently child abuse, because often it's just not. It's a complicated topic on which jumping to conclusions is something I'd advise against. In Touya's case, we know it was abusive because of the... "Methods" Harumichi used, but we don't have that kind of privilege or knowledge to judge real people's situations.

Anyway, yeah, I did fully expect something like that from Touya's story. I can't say it's not upsetting, but is it surprising? Not at all.
