Evan Buckley x reader
summary You're taking care of Christopher when Buck comes home, looking absolutely drained and in shock and goes straight to Christophers room. You overhear the news and make sure to care for both Chris and Buck.
word count 1639
tags pretty much episode 14 season 4, Eddie gets shot but it's not described, Buck is sad :(, Chris being the precious kid he is
a/n the way I sat there in silence when Eddie got shot is crazy. Like first they hurt us with Athena and Bobby's fight and then one second passes and Eddie (my bb) gets shot I'm so confused 😭 anyway I couldn't take it when I saw bucks reaction so I wrote a fix it for me. Also I screen recorded off of an illegal site to make gifs LMAO

You're washing the dishes when the front door opens and closes, footsteps echoing through the hallway and living room - right past the kitchen.
“Eddie?” You call and the steps stop. Instead of the man you'd expected there's your husband, Buck. He looks distraught, eyes bloodshot and lips bitten raw. What the hell happened? He doesn't even really look at you, it's like he's looking through you. “Buck? You okay?”
He licks his lips and blinks a few times but he doesn't reply. He walks straight to Christopher's bedroom, you following after him in confusion and worry. Why was he alone and why did he look like he'd seen a ghost or worse?
He stops before entering Chris’ room, but not to wait for permission to come in but more like hesitancy. He balls his hand into a fist and takes a deep breath before walking in. You take his spot in the doorway and watch with a worried frown as Buck squats down in front of Chris who's sitting on his bed, playing a video game.
“Where's Dad?” Buck looks down and you see him swallow again before he looks into the kids eyes. “He's.. not coming home tonight, Chris.”
Chris seems almost unbothered by it but considering that Eddie had to stay in the hospital overnight almost regularly due to his job, it was a reasonable reaction. But Buck doesn't seem to think the same and shakes his head minimally.
“Did he get hurt? In a fire?” Chris inquires and Buck turns his head to the side and slowly shakes it in negation. Before explaining it he sits down next to Chris and pinches the bridge of his nose, frowning. “No, not- not in a fire.” He takes another deep breath before continuing, “The truth is someone hurt your Dad.”
It's been a while since you've heard his voice so sullen and raspy from crying - probably since the last visit from his parents and that was weeks ago now. You slowly and quietly come into the room as well, standing at the foot of the bed and next to Buck with his back turned to you.
He regards you with a short glance before focusing back on Christopher, confirming his question, “Yeah, a bad guy.”
You see him reach up and wipe under his eyes, frowning in empathy as you put your hand between his shoulder blades and slowly move it up and down in hopes to calm him down a bit.
“Is he gonna be okay?” Chris asks and you're glad he did because you want to know too. Buck looks at him again and nods. “Your Dad is tough. He's a fighter.”
“He's with the doctors now? The ones that fixed you?” Chris inquires and Buck nods. You see the conflict on his face before the ten year old nods, “Then he's gonna be fine.” You hum and Buck glances your way before focusing back on Chris. Just as he's about to say something his phone pings twice and he looks down at it.
Over his shoulder you see the message as well, stemming from Bobby.
Out of surgery. Doctors say it went well.
Your heart basically drops in relief and Bucks seems to as well when his phone drops from his hand and he pretty much caves in, dropping his chin to his chest as he sniffles and exhales deeply.
You thread your hand in his hair and he automatically leans into you, resting against your stomach as he starts to cry. His hands grasp at your hips before his arms wrap around you and he sobs.
“Shh, it's okay, baby. Eddie's gonna be fine. Right, Chris? Your dad's strong.”
The young boy nods and you smile assuringly as he reaches out and wraps his arm around Bucks shoulders to pat his back. You melt at the sight and ruffle his hair which he usually doesn't like - only his dad is allowed to - but now he just looks at you with worry and confusion.
“How about you go and get ready for bed, hm?” It's not a question and it is a reasonable time for him to head to bed anyway, so he complies and slowly walks to the bathroom.
When he's out of earshot you sit next to Buck and let him fully wrap his arms around you and put his head on your chest as he cries. “H-He got shot right in front of me,” he starts with hitching breaths. “He just dropped and his blood was all over me-” he sobs deeply and you kiss his head while trying to process this yourself. He got shot?
“You couldn't have prevented it, love. He's gonna be fine. Eddie survived a lot, he's going to pull through this time, too.” Buck shakes his head and pulls back enough to look at you, blue eyes glossy and chin quivering as he gasps between another sob.
“It shouldn't have been him!” This devastates you and you cup his face in your hands, your worried expression replaced by a stern one. “It shouldn't have been anyone. Not him and not you, either. You hear me?”
He whimpers and you sigh, wiping your thumbs under his eyes and placing a long, soft kiss on his birthmark. “As soon as we can, we'll go visit him. But now you have to be strong, for Christopher. He looks up to you, if he sees you sad he'll be sad, too. Let's get him to bed, and I'll take care of you after.”
You take his hand and put it over your heart, exaggerating your breaths so he could match his and calm down. Right when he does he opens his eyes again and his frown fades enough to only be barely visible. “‘m sorry.”
The shake of your head is immediate, shutting up any further apologies. “No. It's good to let it out. I'm here so you can do exactly that if you need to. I love you, Evan. Nothing's gonna change that.”
He pulls his hand from your chest and tangles it with yours instead, gently kissing your knuckles and then your inner wrist.
He used to hate his name after it reminded him of his parents- of how they treated him. It reminds him of a life where he had to endure pain to receive love and attention.
But when you say it, it makes his heart beat faster in a good way. It makes him want to move on from his trauma or at least learn to deal with it.
And moreover it makes him feel validated. With you, he's not just Buck. He's also vulnerable, emotional and a bit cheesy. He's Evan. Evan, who's had more jobs in more cities than he can count on one hand because he was trying to find his place in the world. Evan, who likes the ocean but has been uneasy around it ever since the tsunami.
You smile lovingly and peck his forehead just as Chris comes back inside. He's wearing some dino pajamas and you ‘ohh’ at him which makes him giggle and turn as if to show off his outfit.
You move up from the bed - Buck going with you and standing at the foot of it - and untuck the bedsheets. “Get in there.” Chris grins and lays down, letting you tuck him in.
“Don't be sad, kid.” He says to Buck, who tries and fails to hide a new round of tears building up in his eyes. You had no clue where and why Chris sometimes calls Buck or even Eddie ‘kid’ but both of them seemed to love it.
“I'm just a bit worried for your Dad. But he'll be fine,” he adds the last part when you glance at him warningly, not wanting Chris to worry, and smiles. “Goodnight, bud.”
You leave his nightlight on and the door open as you leave.
Buck settles on the couch and watches as you approach and stand in front of him.
He leans back into the couch and looks at you with those puppy dog eyes that make you melt every single time he looks at you. Damn him and his beautiful eyes.
“I'm really scared. I don't know what I would do without him… when he laid there and looked at me, I-” he inhales sharply and looks at his hands, picking at his nails and reopening an old abrasion in the process.
You take his hand into each of yours to stop him and sigh, “I think you're gonna have to move from monthly sessions to biweekly, babe.” You know his therapy has been helping him a lot and you're glad he's working on coping with his trauma, but this addition is going to complicate not just his home life but also work - especially when Eddie comes back.
He groans and pulls you down until you're sitting on his lap, knees on either side of his thighs and his hands on your hips. “I appreciate your help, lovie, but just let me try and rest a little right now, please?”
You smile and card a hand through hair, moving to get off his lap so he could get comfortable on the couch. “Where do you think you're going?” He huffs and you're pushed onto your back before he's leaning over you, laying between your legs.
“You're gonna use me as your pillow?” You prompt and he nods, laying his head on your shoulder and nuzzling his nose into your neck and against your pulse point. You're familiar with his constant search for proof that you're alive and well; you supposed it comes from not just the job but his abandonment issues, too.
It didn't matter to you though, as long as you got to hold him at the end of the day you'd let him maneuver you into whatever way made him happy.

How do we tell our son?
Y/N, Buck, and Eddie leaned on the kitchen island, watching Christopher play his video game.
"So, how are you two planning on telling him?"
"Yes, Eddie, how are you planning on telling your son?"
"Oh, so he's my son now."
"He's been your son since he was born. I inherited him just a year and some change ago."
"Yeah, this one's on you."
"Why don't you tell him?"
"And have him hate his favorite Uncle Buck? Not a chance. Have you even tested the waters on this conversation yet?"
"I asked him if he liked Y/N once."
"And?"
"And he asked if he could have his sleepover party at your place, and I had to tell him no because I was horny and we were fighting, and I didn't want him and his friends to wake up to us…. doing us. You know how much I love angry sex."
"Was that when you brought Chris to Maddie's, and we did that thing with the rope and the nipple clamp…"
Eddie stood behind Y/N, signaling Buck to stop, but it was too late.
"You what?"
"Bebe. I'm sorry-"
"Edmundo. Diaz."
"Somebody's in trouble."
"Not helping Buck."
"Are you serious? That was supposed to be our thing. The one thing that we didn't share with Buck. We share clothes, food, beds, but not that."
"I was upset, and I'm so sorry. Can you forgive me for the sake of our son?"
"Yes, just because you said "our son," and it sounds so nice when you say it."
"If you like that, you should hear me call my husband's name."
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
Eddie and Y/N were chest to chest. They would have burned down the building if their sexual tension were a fire.
"You mean we could live with Y/N forever? Awesome!"
Y/N and Eddie look at the sofa to Christopher and Buck looking back at them.
"I helped."
"Dad, when do we move to Papa's house?"
"I thought you liked living here."
"I do, but Papa has a park across the street, and last time, he told me that he would teach me how to play basketball so I could beat a meatball."
"A meatball?"
"You are looking a little beefier than usual."
"Me? You think you two can beat me?"
"You are a man of many talents, but basketball is not one of them."
Y/N pats Eddie on his shoulder, earning a disheartened frown. Chris turns around to resume his game, and Buck enters the kitchen to refill his water bottle.
"Great, now that's over. Now, all you have to do is tell the crew."
"You didn't tell the 118?"
"No, I thought you did."
"Why would I tell them you spend all day with them?"
"Who doesn't know? Hen knows that means Chim knows; therefore, Maddie knows."
"Buck knows."
"Ravi was your best man, so if he doesn't know, he's more of a himbo than me."
"Bobby knows from our anniversary dinner."
"Did you tell Athena?"
"No, she scares me. But she's not stupid she has to know."
"How about this? At the Halloween party, just announce it. You'll have everyone in the same room and only have to do it once."
"That's not a bad idea."
"Look at you, Buck-a-roo."
"I help."
Buck smiles like a puppy dog, receiving a cheek rub from Y/N as his face falls in thought.
"Same room?"
"What? What's wrong now?"
"The holidays. Last year, we were in Cancun with the crew for Thanksgiving, and-"
"You were in the hospital for Christmas."
"So, which family gets what holiday?"
"My family hates Thanksgiving, so we do Christmas in Texas."
"My family will kill me and send a search party for me if I miss a New York Christmas two years in a row."
"You are just adding to the headcannon."
"Here we go again."
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Eddie thinks I'm in a mafia family just because I'm a New York Italian."
"Your father's name is Don. You have a weird fascination with gold chains and wearing sunglasses all day, you have a cousin named Vinny, you call people meatball, you said they called you Baby Gambino when you were a kid-"
"Because I was a chubby kid and snuck off to our family's bakery..."
"It's not just a bakery; it's bakeries, meat markets, pizzerias, wine shops, grocery stores, and that's just the stuff you've mentioned."
"... and I don't know how many times I have to tell you my father's name is John, but with his accent, it sounds like Don. You know what, how about you ask him? We do Thanksgiving in Texas and Christmas in New York, and when we're all at the table, you can ask him in front of my whole family."
"Maybe I will."
"If you want to die."
Y/N playfully nudges Buck into a light chuckle.

okay no bc i actually need to see abuela having a meaningful talk with christopher about how shannon wasn’t a good mother and that he’s old enough to know the truth rather than eddie just over-romanticizing the whole thing
christopher does not need to be shamed for being upset at his mom leaving. the whole “she didn’t leave, she died 🥺” argument is just factually untrue when she fully intended to leave again before she had her accident
he does not need to be coddled and told about how hard it was for her when she was actively being just as ableist as ramon and helena. he is 13 years old; if he can make a decision on where he lives, he can hear the truth of how awful his mother was so that maybe he can actually provide sufficient context to the actions his dad has taken
yes, she was very young when christopher was born, and no eddie was not a perfect husband/father in the beginning; but the point is she didn’t even give him a chance to even begin processing his PTSD when he cane back, immediately vilifying him for everything before doing the same exact thing as what… petty revenge? giving him a taste of his own medicine? you’re an adult woman with a son who needed you and you walked out on him because you didn’t want the stress. okay, that’s fine, that’s your choice
but don’t show up once he’s older demanding to see him because “he’s my son too” and then proceeding to shame eddie, the one who HAS been there for him after you left, for something he already has made clear he regrets, and has also atoned for by stepping up and actually taking responsibility rather than shirking them the moment it got ‘too hard’ when his parents would have been more than willing to let him do
and then to try and manipulate him with the whole “he’s my son” “we can be a family again” bullshit as a way to get back into his pants— only to dip as soon as things start to get serious again?
and on top of that, the “she was just a girl” argument doesn’t even hold up because yeah, she WAS just a girl. she’s not just a girl anymore. she’s a grown adult woman shirking her responsibility because she doesn’t want to be a mother. That’s all well and good; she doesn’t have to be a mother. But once you make that decision, don’t go crawling back acting like you weren’t the one to actively decide to leave. You’re an adult, making adult decisions, and you need to handle the adult consequences of those adult decisions.
sorry no one will ever be able to convince me to like shannon and im sick of the writers trying to force rose tinted glasses on her existence bc of tim’s obsession with bringing devin back out of nowhere every two seconds
anyway sorry for the shannon rant i saw thay post i reblogged and it just reminded me how much anger i hold towards her for everything she did and how i hate it when people are like “oh she changed she wanted to try again 🥺” when she quite literally didn’t, as is evident by the way she immediately tried to run away again the moment she had to be an adult.
also there is no way buck would EVER look at the way she treated chris and eddie and then actively be friends with her. friend-ly maybe, civil at best, but he would never look at the lasting hurt she caused those two and actively chose to persue a friendship with her.
anyway getting off my anti-shannon soap box and i just needed to get that off my chest lamo

i love you (and i like you) aka the parks and rec au | 65k
"Dad!" Christopher shouts suddenly, moving past Buck with frankly impressive speed. "There's a petting zoo!"
Buck spins around to greet Shannon's mysterious ex and he has to rub his eyes to make sure what he's seeing isn't a hallucination brought on by the sleep deprivation and blaring summer heat because Eddie Diaz is hefting Christopher up onto his hip like he weighs nothing, big cow eyes softer than Buck has ever seen them as he listens to his son—his son!!—ramble about the farm animals with a smile that almost brings Buck to his knees.
"Fuck," he hisses to himself.
"Yeah." Shannon sighs solemnly in solidarity. "They tend to have that effect on people."
"Christ, did you know this whole time?" he asks suddenly. Shannon grins at him.
"I had my suspicions after Eddie disappeared on us at Macarthur park and came back looking like a broken man." She shrugs. "But I didn't know you were the guy my ex-husband has been talking about constantly for the past week."
"Constantly?" Buck croaks. Shannon nods, a twinkle to her eyes. "All good things I hope, but all bad things I assume."
"All good things said with the tone of a man talking about the bad things," she says cryptically.
"Oh, God," Buck blanches. "I told him he hated kids."
"Oh, yeah." Shannon laughs. "That was a fun day for me. For Eddie, not so much."
And Buck hasn't taken his eyes off Eddie since this revelation which is how he knows Eddie hasn't once looked away from his kid, but it also means he's looking when Eddie looks back at him with something wary to the set of his jaw. Shannon steps forward then and starts ushering Chris towards the petting zoo with a pointed glance at the both of them, and Buck is widening his eyes apologetically before they're even out of earshot.
"Eddie, I am so fucking sorry," he rushes out. "I was angry when I said that, but I had no right to accuse you of it, kid or no kid or best kid in the whole world. Which. I don't have to tell you how many kids I meet in this job, Eddie, but I've never met a kid like Chris."
"Yeah, he's pretty special," Eddie murmurs, eyes on Christopher as he navigates his way through the crowd. "And I appreciate your apology," Eddie says to him, "but your fourth outburst was actually kind of helpful?" He squints at himself before shaking his head. "What I mean is that I do everything for that kid. Absolutely everything I do... It's all for him, you know?" And, God, the pure, unfiltered love in Eddie's voice is enough to make Buck reconsider religion because this must be what real worship looks like. "But sometimes I get so in my head about what I'm doing for him that I forget that its, you know, for him. You reminded me of that," Eddie says softly, only turning to meet his eyes once Chris is balanced against the railing of the goat enclosure. Buck gets a little breathless at the remnants of his gentle love on his face. "So, thank you. For reminding me." Eddie smiles at him for a beat before it twists into an expression of realisation. "Wait, you're the park creep that befriended my son and flirted with my ex?"
"Well, that's not..." Buck rubs a sheepish hand over the back of his neck and kicks at the ground. "Shannon flirted with me first, it was instinct to flirt back. And she's the one that called me a creep, Christopher thinks I'm cool."
"Yeah, he does," Eddie breathes out. "Shannon told me what you did for him. With the swing."
"Oh, I didn't do anything." Buck waves him off. "He looked interested is all."
"Well, you made his week. Couldn't stop talking about wanting to be a park ranger. Still won't stop talking about it actually." Eddie shoots him one of those soft-eyed looks.
"There'll be an internship waiting for him when he's sixteen," Buck mutters hoarsely before stuffing his hands in his pockets and averting his eyes. "You know, if there's still a parks department for me to be a part of."
"Well then, guess I'll have to see what I can do." Eddie winks at him, then blinks at himself like he's wondering what the fuck he just did—and Buck is right there with him—before gravitating towards his son.

Eva (Omegaverse Mpreg)
Buck paced back and forth in the waiting room. The alpha inside him was as restless as Buck and he was glad he was the only room in the room or he would have driven other people up the wall. He would have also growled at anyone who dared to get close to him because his alpha just wanted to make sure his omega was okay.
Buck stopped when the waiting room door opened, thinking it was the doctor with an update but instead, he saw Bobby walk in.
"You okay?" Bobby asked, obviously sensing Buck's worry.
Buck let out a deep sigh and shook his head. "Nope, I'm worried about Tommy and the baby."
"I will not trivialize your worries because they are completely valid, but I do want to say that I truly believe Tommy will be okay," Bobby told him.
He sat down on a chair and patted the chair next to him. Buck hesitated before taking a seat beside the other alpha.
"Now tell me, is this just about the delivery or is there something else?" Bobby asked.
Buck hated how well his boss, friend, and surrogate dad, knew him. "I am terrified... what if something happens to Tommy?"
"Nothing will happen to him, he is getting the best care in the world," Bobby assured Buck and put a hand on his shoulder.
Buck paused for a long minute and bit his lips. "I am also worried what if I- I am not a good dad. What if I end up like my own parents and fuck up my kid?" He asked after a while.
The other alpha removed his hand and leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees, and putting his hands together like a prayer. "You are not your parents, Buck. And you will be a great dad. You know how I know that?"
Buck shook his head.
"Because you're already a great dad... To Christopher," Bobby replied. "He's not even yours and you love him like he was, so I can only imagine how much you will love your own kid."
"But I didn't have to raise Christopher. What if I fuck up with this kid?" Buck asked worriedly.
"Then you'll learn from your mistakes, move on, and do better," Bobby told him. "You're being too hard on yourself, kid."
That eased some of Buck's worries. "Thanks, Bobby."
"And you're not alone, Buck. You have a wonderful omega and partner who will hold you accountable and make sure you do good," Bobby told him. "I won't tell you not to worry because I remember what a nervous wreck I was when I was about to have my kids. But once you see her, everything will automatically fall into place."
Just as Buck was about to reply, the door opened and the doctor walked in. "Mr. Kinard-Buckley?"
"Yeah, that's me," Buck replied and immediately got up from his chair. "How's my husband?"
"Thomas and the baby are both fine," the beta doctor replied. "Thomas still hasn't woken up but the anesthesia should wear off in the next 20-30 minutes. We've moved him to a room and will bring your baby there if you want."
Buck perked up upon hearing that. "O-okay," he replied nervously.
"If you want, you can follow me now," the doctor told him.
Buck turned back to look at Bobby who gave him a reassuring smile. "Go, I'll be right here," he told him.
"Thanks, Bobby. For everything," Buck told the other alpha and hugged him.
"Congratulations, Buck," Bobby said, hugging him back.
Buck followed the doctor to the room and found Tommy fast asleep. He looked so pale and it worried Buck.
As if sensing his worry, the doctor said, "He'll be fine."
The door opened behind them and Buck turned around to see a nurse pushing in a bassinet.
Buck's mouth went dry and his heart started to race once again.
"Would you like to hold your baby?" The doctor asked.
Buck went over to the bassinet and looked inside to find his newborn baby girl swaddled in a light pink blanket. She looked so tiny and fragile and Buck was terrified of picking her up.
The nurse picked up the little bundle instead, and Buck's alpha tried not to growl. "Here, I'll show you how to hold her," the nurse told him.
She helped Buck take the baby in his arms and Buck was so scared of dropping her. He watched the baby in awe, taking in her rosy cheeks, which resembled Tommy's. In fact, everything about her was like Tommy.
"She's perfect," Buck mumbled.
***
Buck sat there on the chair with his baby girl, refusing to let her go. She woke up and cried at one point and Buck panicked, calling the nurse. The nurse chuckled and helped him calm the baby down.
The baby fell asleep again and Buck kept holding her.
He soon heard a soft groan and became alert. Buck saw Tommy open his eyes and was immediately out of his seat. He went over to his omega, and whispered, "Hey baby."
"Hey," Tommy replied hoarsely.
Buck watched as his eyes widened slightly. "Is that- is that her? She's fine?" Tommy asked, worry evident in his voice.
"Yeah, baby, she's perfectly fine," Buck replied.
He called for the nurse again who helped Tommy sit up on his bed.
"Do you wanna hold her?" Buck asked
"Y- yeah," Tommy replied and Buck could hear the same nervousness in his voice that he was feeling earlier.
He gently placed their baby in Tommy's arms and watched them.
"She's perfect," Tommy whispered.
"She is," Buck agreed. "Have you thought of a name for her?"
"I have," Tommy replied. "Eva..."
"Eva," Buck mumbled. "That's a beautiful name."
"That's not it. I have a middle name for her too," Tommy informed him.
"Oh yeah?" Buck asked. "And what would that be?"
"Bobbi. Eva Bobbi Kinard-Buckley."
Buck was taken aback by that and his eyes filled up with tears.
"I know how much Bobby means to you so it would be nice to have our daughter have his name too," Tommy replied.
"God, why are you so perfect?" Buck asked and leaned down to kiss him. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," Tommy replied. "And I love Eva Bobbi too."
"So do I," Buck replied and looked down at the sleeping baby in awe.

BiAsBuck’s ficrec Fridays
Happy Friday everyone! This is my first 911 ficrec post (I'm usually over here if ill-fated hunters and their angel husbands are your jam) but I've been DEEP in the Evan Buckley hyperfixation throughout April so come with me for what I've been reading!
This is a combination of Buddie and Bucktommy and buckeddietommy (aka buckeddie and meatballs, heh!)

tell me about despair by @hattalove was the first fic I read, specifically because I wanted to get inside Eddie's head more as on first viewing I found him a little trickier to grasp...but yeah...that might just be because I am he and he am I. This fic was an wonderful way in to understanding his inner workings. His queer awakening and the associated traumas he has to work through were handled with such care, and the character voices were just gorgeous. "Eddie's not entirely sure he believes in getting help, at least not for himself. There's only so much healing to be had for a body torn apart by bullets, for a mind that's only half there, for a man who's been leaving pieces of himself behind all his life with nothing to take their place. Except, as it turns out, falling apart happens in increments, and healing does, too"
evan, elated and euphoric by @gayhoediaz 16500 words of bucktommy first time smut anyone?? "Buck likes it - not just being with Tommy, being with a man - that part is obvious, but he… likes that he likes it. He loves that he likes it. Truthfully, he doesn’t think that he has ever felt more at home in his own body than he does in this very moment." This is such a delightful exploration (through copious amounts of sizzling sex) in Buck feeling fully present and fully himself in his sexuality, and it's gloriously decadent as well as sweet and sexy as hell. I loved this characterisation of Tommy.
Both Bermuda and Golden (Lost but Doing Just Fine) by @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels all hail the threesome fics! In which the correct answer is always - Both? Both is good! This one is gloriously kinky and sexy and I love the 'guiding hand' aspect and how both Buck and Eddie allow themselves to be led. "It's not that Buck's not happy with Eddie. It's just that being with Tommy taught him things about himself, things he wants, and he doesn't quite know how to ask Eddie for those things. He shouldn't have underestimated how well Eddie knows him, or how willing Tommy is to lend a helping, instructional hand."
Heart of Flowers / Heart of Gold by @elvensorceress is a gorgeously written allegorical tale with PEAK Buddie and Christopher family vibes set between S4&5. "In the aftermath of the sniper attack, Buck has to keep going without his partner while sorting through the layers of everything they are to each other, while Eddie fights for his life and through all his internalized trauma and regret for everything they never managed to say. aka After nearly losing each other, Buck and Eddie find their way to each other and their family’s happily ever after." My absolute favourite thing about this fic is the thread with the bedtime story that Christopher and Buck have created together. Just beautiful.
five ways to fall in love with the man in the mirror by @buckttommy is a bucktommy fic but crucially a Buck absolutely revelling in the poetry of getting to know your own identity. It also crucially gives me Jay Hulme vibes (iykyk) "Buck meets God at a gay club. He finds him in an oil-slick puddle on a damp night, neon lights reflecting off the kaleidoscopic liquid in the parking lot. or; Evan Buckley falls in love with himself."
and i know how i feel by @middyblue is a very sweet Buck coming out to Bobby fic, written I believe between 7x04 and 7x05. ALL the Dad!Bobby feels. "Buck stares off over the hills of Los Angeles, hugging his knees. He half wants to take out his phone and start playing Nine Simone (it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me, and I’m feeling - ) and half can’t bear to drown out the thin peace of bird calls in the quiet blue of the morning. Footsteps scrape on gravel behind him and he turns, half-expecting another hiker, but it’s Bobby, carrying a coffee tray with two to-go cups and a paper bag."
Short and sweet fic:
For All Occasions by @storybelle FIREFAM FEELS! In which of course, as per tradition, Hen makes the 118 a cake. I neeeeeed Hen and Buck queer camaraderie show, I need it, and just like this!
Wedding Bell Blues by @klutzygirl - much needed supportive parents actually fic! "Margaret and Phillip meet their son's new boyfriend when they arrive in town for Maddie's wedding." it doesn't go how Buck would expect, in the best way.
PS - if you have any henren authors/fic recs I should check out PLEASE let me know! I'm new and I love them!

WIP Wednesday
Hello! Thanks to @theotherbuckley @tizniz @diazsdimples @buddieswhvre and @disasterbuckdiaz for tagging me!
More Things We're All Too Young to Know today because it's what I've been focused on since Monday night.
---
“Uh, well, did you know, around the time I met you and your dad, Maddie came back into my life after not speaking to me for years?”
Christopher’s jaw drops. “What?”
“Right?” Buck nods. “Hard to believe, now.”
“Was she mad at you?” Christopher asks.
“No,” Buck shakes his head. “But she was stuck in a marriage to a really bad guy she wasn’t ready to leave yet, and she didn’t want to involve me in it, and I felt really, uh, lost in life, and was moving around the country every few months, looking for somewhere to belong, and Maddie and I kind of lost each other.”
Christopher blinks. “That’s really sad.”
“It was,” Buck nods. “And I got used to not having her, you know? Even though I always missed her so badly.”
Christopher ducks his head a little. “Yeah, I know that feeling.”
Right. Of course he does.
Buck reaches across the couch and gives his arm a reassuring squeeze.
“Th-then, one day, when Maddie finally left her husband,” Buck continues. “She came to me. Showed up in the place I was living at the time. Actually, that was the same day I met your dad. Anyway, point is, we hadn’t spoken in years, but she knew that she could come to me when she needed help. And I think, maybe, your aunt feels the same way about your dad. That she can come to him for help no matter what.”
Christopher’s mouth twists to the side a little.
“That’s what brothers and sisters do for each other,” Buck shrugs. "The good ones, anyway."
“I guess I’m out of luck, there,” Christopher sighs.

Part 4 of the Buddie Development
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6 | part 7 | part 8 | part 9 | part 10
As you will noticed there are jumps between episodes, this is because in some we have no interaction between Buck and Eddie, as some episodes are backstories, and in others the interactions are minimal or irrelevant.
S2:E4 Stuck
Okay so tell my why our resident idiots were talking about their type and they kept walking into each other? they bumped arms and shoulders a total of 6 times, i counted. And it was HILARIOUS why can’t these guys walk straight?? oh wait-
i really recommend to watch the scene again and maybe even take a shot each time they bump into each other 🤪
Buck accompanies Eddie to the hospital when he thinks Chris is injured. Husbands’s gotta be supportive smh
Now later in the episode Buck and Maddie are talking about Eddie and Christopher and Buck goes into his praising Eddie rant, admiring him for how much he loves Christopher and he’s a great dad, and queen Maddie says:
“So does this boy crush on Eddie mean that you’re finally ready to move on from abby?”
HAHAH maddie i could kiss you, does anyone think the Buckley siblings came out to each other (as bi) prior to the events of the series? i heard that theory but idk because Maddie is a few years older than Buck and they said they hadn’t talked in 3 years, so idk about how close they were back then.
Buck proceeds to respong “that’s cute” 🥰
And special mention to Buckaroo for helping his husband find help for Christopher, introducing him to Carla. we love Carla.
we’re skipping to…
S2:E6 Dosed
Chimney, Buck and Eddie are helping Maddie move in and once Chim and Eddie are in the kitchen Maddie turns to Bucky and says:
“he is soo cute”
Buck answers “yeah he gets that a lot, uh, you should meet his kid though” staring longingly at Eddie
plotwist Maddie’s talking about Chimney and Buck can’t think about anyone who isn’t cute apart from Eddie.
In this episode the team helps traffic reporter Taylor Kelly and i guess Buck is a fan of hers? so when she goes to the station to film them, Buck comes to say hi, AND EDDIE INTERRUPTS THEM like the jealous boyfriend he is; to ask if she’s okay, but like, he jumps into the conversation kind of aggressively? it felt like jealousy to me, and i also feel like if they were straight everyone would see it so clearly (?) like the guy who’s jealous of other guys talking to you and jumps into conversations out of NOWHERE.
also during the episode eddie treats her and the cameraman just like Bobby does, guarded and dry. except that i don’t think they have the same reasoning…
and that was it for relevant conversations in this episode :) i’ve developed a deep addiction for the show, pls send help

When the Waters Rise, Take My Hand
Summary: It seems poetic that water would take his life just like it took his boys away. It’s not that Eddie Diaz wants to die it’s just that since the tsunami he’s been a shell of a person.
AKA the one where Eddie has nightmares about the what ifs of the tsunami hitting the pier.
Work Text:
It seems poetic that water would take his life just like it took his boys away. It’s not that Eddie Diaz wants to die it’s just that since the tsunami he’s been a shell of a person. Five years ago today he took his son over to his best friend’s place and went to work thinking it was just a normal Thursday. Five years ago today he lost everything that ever meant anything to him so he today he’s gonna join his boys one way or another.
He creeps closer and closer to the shoreline. He feels the sand give beneath his feet. Feels the water begin to lap at his ankles as he takes the first hesitant step into the water proper. He takes another and another until the water reaches his waist. He holds his hands out in front of him and feels the coolness, lets himself be lulled into a false sense of security by the water.
““To Mom and Dad, I’m sorry I was so weak. Not the son you ever wanted.
To Abuela, Pepa, Adri, Soph, sorry I couldn’t be stronger for you. I love you with everything I have.
To Shannon, I’m sorry I wasn’t the man, the husband, the partner you needed. I’m sorry I fucked us up so badly.
To Christopher, the best thing that ever happened to me. I’m sorry I couldn’t be the father you deserved. I’m gonna join you and Buck real soon buddy.
To Chim & Hen, thank you for being my friends. My family. I loved and appreciated all of it but it’s finally time for me to go join my boys somewhere else.
To Evan, my best friend. The light of my life, I’m sorry I failed you so badly. For forcing you to leave the house with Chris when you didn’t wanna get out of bed.
To Maddie, May & Harry, I’m sorry I took your brother away from you.
To Bobby and Athena, I’m sorry I took your son away from you. If I hadn’t been so stupid and selfish Buck would still be alive.
I’m writing this because you deserve to know how much I blame myself for you guys losing Buck and Chris 5 years ago. If you’re reading this then I’m already gone to see both of them again.
Love,
Eddie “the fuck-up” Diaz””
That’s the letter his family will find when they go through his things after he’s gone. As he lets himself sink into the dark he hopes they can forgive him. Forgive him for not being strong enough to live without Buck or Chris for long. As the ocean pulls him further under with its siren song he thinks he can already hear Buck’s voice calling out to him.
**
“Eddie! Eddie, wake up babe. Come on baby you gotta wake up,” Buck says shaking Eddie’s shoulder. He’d startled awake to Eddie whimpering in his sleep a few minutes before but it wasn’t until he heard his name said that’d he’d truly paid attention. He feels more than sees Eddie come to and immediately throw himself more fully into his chest. He can feel the dampness of Eddie’s chest soaking into his own tshirt and feels the warmth of tears rolling down his neck where Eddie’s face is buried.
Buck wraps an arm around his boyfriend’s waist and rests his free hand across the back of Eddie’s neck to scratch along his hairline. It seems to calm Eddie down enough that he can begin the process of figuring out what kind of fresh hell his psyche was throwing at this time. The more he tries to pull Eddie’s face out of his neck so he can see into his eyes, the more fight he’s given. “Alright baby you can lay here but I’m gonna need you to agree to talk to me at soon, okay?”
“Okay, but not right now,” Eddie mumbles against his neck. If Eddie had it his way they’d never talk about it but he knows how damn stubborn Buck is.
“Yeah baby not right now. Let’s just lay here awhile and when you’re ready I’ll listen,” Buck promises.
“Is Christopher ok,” Eddie asks after a few minutes of neither of them talking. He’s rolled back to his side of the bed but leaves an arm and a leg against Buck.
“Yeah honey he’s tucked away in his bed just down the hall. We made sure he was asleep before we came to bed, remember? He wanted you to read to him just like he did when he was younger. He’s safe and sound and if he needs something he knows where we are,” Buck reassures him. “We can go check on him if it’ll put your mind more at ease.”
“No I trust you Evan. I think I’m ready to talk about it now.”
“Ok so what happened sweetheart? You were whimpering earlier and now you’re asking about where Chris is.”
“It was a nightmare. I was walking into the ocean hoping to die. I could hear all these cruel voices talking about how it was my fault that you and Chris were on the pier when the tsunami hit. I could see the bodies in the water, hear the anguished cries as people helplessly watched loved ones be pulled under and out to sea. I was frozen watching Christopher’s crutches float by stuck on a broken board. I could hear him screaming a mixture of Dad and Buck and I couldn’t do anything to fix it,” Eddie tearfully says. Some part of him wants to burrow back into Buck to reassure himself that Buck is really there and that he’s not some hallucination Eddie’s psyche has made up.
“Baby I promise that if the water starts rising again, you’ll always have my hand to grab onto,” Buck whispers moving to stand up. When he turns to look at Eddie he can’t help but laugh at the confused puppy expression he sees as he holds his hand out for his boyfriend to take, “Come on, Eds. Let’s go look in on Chris and then I promise we’ll come back to bed and I’ll hold you while you fall back asleep or play on your phone.”
“I said I trusted you though when you said he was asleep in his room,” he tries to weakly protest even as he takes Buck’s hand and lets himself be pulled to his feet. “Ev, he’s probably sleeping and we’re gonna wake him up. If we do you’re the one who has to help him fall asleep again.”
“It’s good thing I know how to put my Diaz boys to sleep then isn’t it? I run a hand up and down his back a couple times and hum a little bit and he’ll be out like a light. Besides you and I both know that our kid is too much like you in the regard of being able to sleep through anything. Now come on!”
When Buck goes to open their door, he’s met with his favorite Diaz sleepily staring at him and the other one wrapping himself around his torso. “Hey, Chris what would you say about sleeping in our room tonight? I know you keep saying you’-“
“Yes please!,” Chris exclaims before Buck can even finish his sentence making both men chuckle.
“Alright then my boys off to bed we go,” Eddie says letting go of Buck in favor of leading the way back to bed. He gets Christopher comfortable before leaning over him to give Buck a kiss and a whispered, “Thank you, Evan.”

If one of buddie knows theyre in love with the other which one do you think it is?
Hi Nonnie! Thank you for this ask.
Hmmm. So I’m not sure either one of them has manage to use that one shared brain cell that they have in order to figure out what those feelings are that they have for each other. BUT. If I had to put my money on one of them, well. Around 303 it would have been on Buck. The way he looks like he has an epiphany, with the shots of him in the light at the end of that ep, it’s truly something! Then he proceeds to fucking try and dig out Eddie from 40 feet below with his bare hands. You would THINK he has an idea why Bobby had to physically restrain him in order to stop him from doing that.
But following seasons I think have demonstrated that Buck is kind of clueless, and I think a part of why is because whatever he feels for Eddie, he can always attribute it to how amazing Buck believes Eddie to be. Or how important it is for this father to get to go back home to his son.
I suspect Eddie has less of those defenses that can explain things away. Not that they’re not there at all! They’re just more limited. Because Eddie gets more frustrated with Buck, like in the LS crossover ep, when he’s basically facepalming over “My husband, the dumbass who stares at someone else right in front of me.” Or when he’s SO upset at the way Buck keeps throwing himself into danger, there’s a limit to how much Eddie can tell himself that it’s on behalf of Chris, who needs Buck to come back safe and sound. I do believe that exists! But it doesn’t explain Eddie’s rage or panic at Buck’s possible absence quite as much as “Chris needs his dad, so no matter what, Eddie has to be okay” works for Buck, because the connection of Eddie and Christopher is much more official and built-in.
So yeah, at this specific point in time, IF one of them is less oblivious, I’d say it would be Eddie. I hope this helped? Have a great day! As always, my ask tag is here. xoxox

i believe there is happiness
The truck rolls to a stop, a beautiful pumpkin farm coming into view. It’s been decorated appropriately to fit the season.
Buck twists around in his chair to peek at his favorite boy. Said boy is vibrating in his seat, smiling so wide Buck’s own jaw hurts.
“Are you excited buddy?” He asks, pretty sure he already knows the answer, Christopher just beams even brighter.
(or, the buckley-diaz family goes to a pumpkin patch. then, of course, they love each other)
The truck rolls to a stop, a beautiful pumpkin farm coming into view.
“Yeah! I’m gonna get the biggest p-pumpkin ever!” He announces, causing Buck and Eddie to share a fond look. Eddie turns back to face Chris.
“Alright, how about you and Buck start heading over, while I buy our tickets.” The young boy nods frantically, clicking himself out of his seatbelt. Eddie just chuckles, shaking his head slightly, before getting out of the car. Buck watches him walk towards the front entrance.
“Bucky, Come on!” Chris shouts, causing Buck to get a move on, never wanting to disappoint the kid.
They both get out of the car, Buck handing him his crutches, before they make their way down the path.
Eddie was going to the welcome center. He had volunteered to buy their tickets alone, so Buck and Chris wouldn’t have to be bored standing in line.
“What do you want to do first Superman?” Buck asks, as they approach the main gate.
The crowds are bustling, moderately busy for a Saturday afternoon. Buck watches families picking out pumpkins, parents sharing fond looks, taking photos of their kids.
He wonders if he and Eddie are like that. Two fathers taking their son out for a fun day. Partners, husband. A family.
“Hmm…” He looks around, taking in his surroundings, until something pops out to him. “The petting zoo!” He’s pointing towards a group of kids currently petting a goat. Buck grins.
When he had picked out this place weeks prior, he saw that they offered this, and knew Chris would love it.
“You read my mind.” Buck tells him, Chris just tugs at his sleeve, urging him to move quicker. They approach the animals, Chris of course making a beeline for the Chickens.
“I want a chicken so bad! Do you think dad would let us have one?” He asks, spinning his head around to look at Buck. Buck’s heart briefly gets caught on the word us.
“Sorry bud, no amount of begging is going to have your dad buying you a chicken.” Chris huffs annoyed, but happily turns back to the clucking animals.
“Did you know roosters can make a certain noise that will alert all the other chickens to hide. It’s called a hawk alert.” Buck says, every fact he’s ever learned about chickens ping-ponging in his brain.
“Cool.” Chris says genuinely. He’s mesmerized by the chickens and Buck can’t help but take out his phone to snap a picture.
A presence Buck is very familiar with, comes up behind him, looking over his shoulder at his phone.
“God, he’s growing up too fast.” Eddie’s breath tickles Buck’s cheek, and he suppresses a shiver.
“Yes he is. He’s going to be in highschool soon.” The older man shoves him, playfully. Buck glares at him, slipping his phone into his pocket.
“Don’t even say that! He’s my baby forever.” Buck laughs, just shaking his head.
Chris, not even bothered by either of them, moves onto the pigs. Buck and Eddie just watch him from a distance, knowing he’s completely capable on his own.
The cool breeze whips across Buck’s face, burning his skin. A big part of him wishes the flannel he had chosen to wear was thicker.
He shoves his hands into his jeans, hoping to warm himself up.
California doesn’t get that chilly, especially during the fall, but Buck has always ran cold. So, now with the breeze, Buck feels like he’s getting hypothermia.
His teeth chatter audibly, making Eddie chuckle.
“You are such a baby. Here, take this, even Chris handles the weather better than you.” As Eddie is saying this to him, he’s taking off his jacket and handing it to Buck.
Holy shit.
This move reveals his maroon Henley (Buck’s personal favorite) in all its glory. Buck has to bite his cheek to stop himself from declaring his love. Or asking for his hand in marriage.
“Oh- Uh- Thanks man.” He hopes throwing ‘man’ onto his sentence makes his hopeless love less apparent.
From the way Eddie’s eyes crinkle he isn’t sure it worked.
The jacket fits really well.
Buck may be taller, his legs weirdly long, but Eddie’s upper body is seriously built. His torso was literally hand crafted by god himself, and Buck isn’t even religious. He has found himself on multiple occasions drooling over it.
Eddie gives him an appreciative once-over, his eyes making Buck’s whole body heat up, no longer cold.
“Da-ad! I’m starving to death. I need a caramel apple.” Chris complains, dramatically clutching his stomach. Both men bite down on their smiles.
“Is that really food?” Eddie asks, eyebrows raised. Buck and Chris share a look.
“Eds, come on, caramel is a main food group.” He throws a look towards Chris, who is nodding enthusiastically. “Plus, who got an ‘A’ on his unit test this week?” Eddie rolls his eyes, and Buck’s got him right where he wants him.
“Fine.” He leans in close to Buck, “You have to deal with the sugar crash.” Buck barks out a laugh, extending out his pinky.
“Promise.” Eddie links his pinky to his. Buck can feel his heart clawing out of his chest.
Maybe he can have this. This family can be his. Eddie could be his.
They make their way to the booths, scents of cinnamon, apples, and toffee infesting the air. Buck closes his eyes, breathing in deeply.
Growing up- before Maddie took off -she would take Buck to their hometown’s pumpkin patch. It was a small, family owned farm, and the thought of it still brings Buck peace.
They would spend hours there, exploring, laughing, living. The older woman who ran the place would cook them a meal, and it was one of the few times Buck felt seen during his childhood.
He wants to share those happy memories with Eddie and Chris. Give them all the best parts of himself.
“Are you okay?” Eddie whispers. They’re in line at the candy apple booth, and Chris has made friends with the boy in front of them. Which is no surprise, everyone would want to be friends with the coolest kid ever.
“Yeah.” He takes a deep breath, “This is really nice.” The words leave his mouth inadvertently. A confession, far too truthful. Eddie steps closer, brushing their shoulders together.
“It is.”
They stare at one another. Eyes never wavering.
Buck loves this man. Has been loving him since he tried to claw through mud to reach him. Loves him for all his good, and all his bad. Eddie’s flaws just fuel the fire that is Buck’s love, never diminishing it.
Buck is pretty sure he would die happy even if he never got to be with Eddie, because even just existing in the same space is enough. Eddie being his best friend is enough.
“What should we carve into our pumpkin?” Chris asks, approaching the massive amount of pumpkins. Despite the swarm of people, there’s still plenty of pickings. Buck begins eyeing around, wanting the perfect one.
“We could just go classic. Triangle eyes, creepy uneven smile?” Eddie suggests.
“That’s boring dad.” Is the pre-teens response. Buck snorts.
“Yeah dad, that’s boring.” The blonde teases, scrunching his nose at Eddie. The brunette retaliates by flicking him in the nose.
“Neither of you understand the beauty of simplicity.” Eddie scoffs, turning his head up. The deadpan look Chris sends Eddie nearly makes Buck fall on his ass out of pure delight.
God, no one was funnier than this kid.
After about twenty minutes of searching, they find it.
The ugliest pumpkin Buck has ever seen.
It’s misshapen, discolored, and huge. Buck is pretty sure it’s a ‘lunch lady’ pumpkin (Which feels rude, are we saying all lunch ladies are ugly?) Buck isn’t even sure they can carve it, and he tells Chris as much.
The boy stands in front of him, seemingly deep in thought.
“This is the one.” Chris announces after a few moments. Buck gazes at him, and Christopher’s head bobs up and down, signaling for Buck to get it.
“Roger that. You’re the boss.” He crouches down, dead-lifting the pumpkin. It weighs more than Buck thought, and he struggles just for a moment, before he lifts the monstrous fruit, standing.
“Oh my god.” Clearly Eddie has now seen the giant squash Buck is holding. Buck bites down on his lips to keep from cackling.
“This is our pumpkin Eds. Say hi.” The look Eddie gives him just about causes Buck to drop the pumpkin on his feet. He tightens his grip.
“Do you like it dad?” Chris has the most mischievous grin Buck has ever seen.
“...I love it.” The words sound painful coming from Eddie’s mouth, and Chris just grins wider. His smile quickly turns into a yawn.
“I think it’s time to call it a day, mijo.” Chris makes a displeased noise, ready to argue.
“I’m not even,” He yawns again. “Tired.” He rubs at his eyes, making him appear younger. Eddie gives him a soft smile, one reserved for his son.
“How about we just head home, if you’re still not tired, you don’t have to sleep.” Chris slides his eyes between his dad and Buck, contemplating, before giving in.
“I’m going to go buy this, I'll meet you at the car.” Then Buck takes off, not even letting Eddie argue over who’s paying.
Keeping a sturdy grip on the pumpkin he approaches the front booth, the sign above it stating the different prices for all the pumpkins.
“Hi, I’d like to buy this gorgeous gourd.” He tells the woman manning the booth, flashing her his teeth.
“Of course!" She peeks at his pumpkin. "For one of that size, it’s going to be twenty dollars.” He fishes out his wallet, grabbing a wrinkled bill.
As he hands her the money, he surveys the parking lot for Eddie and Chris.
They already made it back to the car, Eddie watching Chris get into his truck. Eddie then looks behind him, his eyes finding Buck’s. Eddie waves at him.
“Wow, you and your husband are so cute!” The woman exclaims, clearly having watched their exchange. Buck is flustered, but not surprised. A lot of people assume they are married, and who is Buck to look a gift horse in the mouth.
“Thank you.” He says sincerely. Him and Eddie are cute. As a grown man, he isn’t afraid to admit that.
“Have a good day!”
Once he makes it back to Eddie’s truck, said man is in the passenger seat, a smug smirk playing his lips. Of course he’s going to make Buck drive. At this point he’s Eddie’s personal chauffeur. (Buck complains, secretly however, he loves it)
Both of the Diaz’ boys fall asleep on the drive home, snuffling in similar ways, making Buck’s heart warm.
He drives carefully. Avoiding potholes, never going too fast, truly doing his best as to not wake either of them.
He pulls into Eddie’s driveway.
“Eddie.” He sets his hand on Eddie’s arm. “Eds.” He strokes up and down until Eddie’s eyes peel open.
“Ugh.” Buck chuckles, getting out of the car to grab Chris.
Opening the door, he’s greeted by the sleeping child. The rise and fall of his chest, his glasses slowly falling from his face. Buck unclips him from his seat, then grabs him, tucking him against his chest.
Eddie is at the door, tired hands fumbling with his keys. The door unlocks, Eddie pushing it open, then stepping to the side.
Buck carries Chris all the way to his room.
He wakes him up just enough to do his night routine. Once finished the boy nearly faceplants into his bed.
“G’night Bucky. I love you.” It’s mumbled into the pillow but Buck still hears it.
“I love you too, Superman. Goodnight.” Buck feels moisture in his eyes, which he desperately pushes down. He switches off Chris’s light and shuts his door.
Eddie is waiting in the hall for him, more awake than he was just minutes ago.
“He’s asleep. See I knew the sugar crash wouldn’t be mmff-”
Eddie has pushed Buck against the wall of his own hallway, slotting his lips against his own. It’s a little desperate and messy, and Buck loves it. He chases Eddie’s mouth with his own, reveling in the soft gasp the older man releases.
Buck licks the seam of Eddie’s mouth, asking for permission that is granted when Eddie parts his lips. He licks into his mouth, adoring the taste of this man. He tastes like the apple cider they shared earlier.
Eddie groans, somewhere deep from the back of his throat, and Buck does his best to quiet him with his mouth.
“Shh. Let’s go to your room.” Buck whispers into his skin. Eddie’s eyebrows shoot up, and Buck rolls his eyes.
“To talk.” The eyebrows reach even higher.
“And maybe kiss, shut up.” Eddie giggles against him before pushing back. He takes Buck’s hand tugging him down the hall, into his room.
They stand in his room just taking the other in.
Eddie is the most beautiful person Buck has ever seen. Not handsome, or rugged, or hot (Although he is all those things as well). He’s beautiful. The curve of his jaw, the slope of his nose, his root-beer eyes Buck wants to drown in.
He’s gorgeous.
Buck wants to touch him, and now he can. He steps into Eddie’s space.
He holds Eddie’s face in his hands, delicately, as if he was something to be cherished, and he is. Buck wants to keep him safe forever. Protect him from the world that constantly tries to wreck him.
His thumbs brushes the mole under Eddie’s eye, before he leans forward to kiss it.
Eddie’s face wrinkles under his lips, but Buck doesn’t let that stop him, instead smoothing them out with the pads of his hands.
Then, he’s kissing each of Eddie’s cheeks, his nose, his forehead, his jaw, chin, and finally, finally, his lips.
Just a soft press, nothing more, Buck reverently repeating the tender action again and again.
“What are you doing?” Eddie asks, a little breathless. Buck is thrilled he did that to Eddie.
“You’re beautiful.” Stunning, heavenly, an angel gracing Buck’s life.
Eddie’s face scrunches up, disbelieving. Buck wants to chase every insecurity he has away.
“I think I’m in love with you.” Eddie admits, after a few moments of silence. He won’t meet Buck’s eyes anymore.
“I know I’m in love with you.” Buck confesses. Eddie’s eyes snap back to him, looking in complete awe.
“Why?”
“You’re my best friend.” Buck says simply, because that’s truly all there is to it.
“Okay.” He smiles. “I’m in love with you.”
He gets to have this. He gets to have his family.
“Since you love me, will you deal with that awful pumpkin?” Buck laughs pulling Eddie to him, bringing them chest to chest.
“Sorry, ugly pumpkins are the price of my love.”
He knows what the secret to happiness is now. It’s the man in his arms.
(wow. sorry for writing such a sappy fic. I’m just kidding I’m not sorry)

Co-parents buddie fic recs
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
this is the family (i found, i made) by sarcastic_fina - Rated G
Buck grinned as he led Christopher to the bus, where a harried looking woman with a clipboard took a glance at Chris before ticking off a box on her paperwork. Her attention then redirected to Buck. "Mr. Diaz? I don't think we've met. I'm Christopher's Art teacher." "Mrs. Conrad." Buck pointed at her knowingly. "I'm a fan. Your homework assignments are my favorite. Mostly because I can do them." She laughed. "Glad to hear it. But I didn't think we'd be seeing you. Chris mentioned his dad would be at work today." "Oh, that's—" "Daddy is working," Christopher informed her. "This is Buck. He's my other dad." Or, Christopher refers to Buck as his dad for the first time, and Buck has feelings.
#LAFDads by ipretendtobesane - Rated G
@coolestttchris he/him my dads are dumb but I love them a lot :) (but don’t tell them i said that) or, chris gets a tiktok, buck and eddie go viral
(Un)Complicated Words by holyfudgemonkeys (erraticallyinspired) - Rated T
Buck knows what it's like to be young and awkward, so he doesn't bring attention to it. --- Or 5 times Christopher calls Buck 'Dad' and 1 time Buck realizes it's intentional.
the wood marked for your fire by hattalove - Rated T
“Chim. Weird question?” Chimney’s chair creaks. Buck cranes his head over the back of the couch and watches him straighten up, pop his back, close the folder. “You only ever ask me weird questions,” he says, and then crosses the loft to sit in one of the armchairs. He levels Buck with a look that’s way too knowing for the amount of words they’ve exchanged. “What’s up?” He takes a breath. “What does it feel like to be a dad?”  in which buck is used to wanting things he's not allowed to have; it's just that he never thought being a father would be one of them.
Christopher's Other Daddy by rant_girl - Rated T
What if Eddie and Ana's first meeting had gone a little differently? Set right after they have finished discussing Christopher and before Eddie leaves the classroom.
5+1 Times People Call Them a Family by sunshinedrift - Not Rated
5 times someone points out that Eddie, Buck, and Christopher make an adorable family and 1 time where they say they are family.
when things fall into place by woodchoc_magnum - Rated M
In which Eddie asks Buck to move in with them during lockdown to help look after Christopher, which leads to certain unresolved feelings being resolved.
when you want by likeshipsonthesea - Rated T
Summary
As Eddie pulls into their neighborhood, Christopher breaks the quiet to say, “Hey Dad?” “Hmm?” “How come Siena calls Buck your husband?” *~*~* or, Christopher's instructor from the horse therapy place assumes Buck is Eddie's husband, Eddie doesn't correct her, and when Christopher asks why, it prompts what might be Eddie's most interesting session with Frank yet.
Five times Buck is Eddie’s co-parent + One time he is Eddie’s everything by Finduilas - Rated
Kind of exactly what it says on the tin? A mix of this Tumblr prompt: Buddie platonic co-parenting to very slow burn to something more fic....? I think it’s an interesting dynamic for them to both be accepting platonic co-parents.... which they realized together through talking about it and then very slowly edge into other things without the pining/unrequited love concept... like they discuss things together and then they’re like “well yeah I guess we could try going one step further” bc they know no matter what they will always be friends - and me yelling at @stellarm that I needed fic where Eddie wants Buck to be Christopher's legal guardian before they're even together.
Actually, Truly by MilenaDaniels - Rated T
Summary
Isabel calls to tell them Eddie's been shot on a Thursday afternoon and by lunch on Friday Helena and Ramon are landing at LAX. When they land, they learn Eddie's already home recovering and has been for two weeks. ---- Or, Helena (and Ramon) tries to find a way back into Eddie's life and doesn't know what to make of finding Buck around every corner she turns.
Finding Home by S_lycopersicum - Rated T
"Buck!" Eddie yelled as he turned his key in the loft door and dumped his suitcase inside. He immediately got a startled "Eddie?" in response, and thank God for that because if Buck had been out running errands it would have been the last damn straw. But he was here, where Eddie needed him to be, and pounding down the stairs from the stupid platform thing he had instead of a normal bedroom. "Is everything OK?" "No! You won't answer your goddamn phone and my house is full of bees."
Something so Magic about You by Distressed_Ladybug15 - Rated T
Eddie probably looked really stupid right now. “Buck-switched it?” Bobby nodded. “Yeah, he’s taking a nap in the bunks right now.” He looked over at Eddie and tilted his head. “What’s so special about tonight?” Eddie blinked, “Um- It’s Chris’ science fair.” He looked out the window and over at the people talking by the kitchen. “Didn’t Buck work a 24-hour, and then cover Alvez for overtime?” Bobby nodded. “Has he left the station in two days?” Bobby blew out a breath of air and shook his head. “I had him do the coffee run, you know, change of scenery. I also made him take a nap which is probably the only reason he’s sleeping right now. I have Johnson babysitting him, to make sure he actually sleeps.” Eddie rubbed his face with his hands and sighed heavily. “That’s just so…” He lets out a strangled laugh. “Buck.” Bobby supplied. “You should talk to him.” He muttered as more of an afterthought. “About which thing?” Eddie gave Bobby a look and Bobby gave a look right back. About the fact that he needs to take better care of himself or the fact, you’re in love with him.
some of it's just transcendental by fallingthorns - Rated T
Buck smiles as Eddie leans in and presses a soft kiss to his lips, and Buck feels himself grinning further against his mouth and kissing back before Eddie pulls away, too soon and with that same soft smile on his lips. He eases the bags fully out of Buck’s arms and turns to head into the kitchen, and Buck watches him go with such a fond smile that he feels like he’s going to explode. And then he freezes and stares at Eddie’s retreating form, his heart constricting in his chest as his brain struggles to catch up with the events of the last twenty seconds. Because kissing? Is not something they have ever done before.
drench yourself in words unspoken by foxwatson - Rated T
Romance is a lot easier to write about than it is to put into practice, and Eddie is the world’s most ridiculous living example of that. He can practically hear the kind of jokes that Shannon would make about it, if he ever told her about the books but - he didn’t. And somehow, probably just because he didn’t start writing until after they weren’t living together anymore, she never found out. There’s actually only a handful of people in the world who know that Eddie is a writer - and more specifically, that he’s E. Diaz, one of the bestselling romance authors on the market. or - the one where everything in canon is the same, except eddie diaz is secretly a bestselling romance author, and nobody knows. Yet.
with you is where i wanna be (take me home) by honestlydarkprincess - Rated T
“C’mon, Buck. Let’s go.” Eddie said, coming up behind him and clapping him on the back. Buck cracked one eye open and turned to look at his best friend. “Huh?” “You’re coming home with me,” Eddie replied, not even looking at Buck as he opened his own locker and started pulling out things to shove into his duffle bag. “You have spare clothes and everything else you need to spend the night already at the house. I’ll bring you back here tomorrow so you can get your car.” Buck hummed in answer, too tired to come up with words for a proper reply. Or, the one in which Buck is too exhausted to drive himself home so Eddie takes him back to his place. Includes Buckley-Diaz family fluff, pining, and sleepy cuddles.
your touch brought forth an incandescent glow by eddiesdiaz - Rated T
They don’t make a big deal of telling everyone the news — aside from Christopher, which Buck had been endearingly nervous about — because honestly, fundamentally, nothing changes. Everyone already knows, really, so Buck and Eddie don’t feel like they need to broadcast it. They do their best to keep it professional at the station, for the most part, but sometimes their small but intimate touches seep into the work day without them even consciously realizing it. (Or, Buck and Eddie share soft touches at work, and the team notices and comes to conclusions.)
all that we need by not1_2write - Rated M
When Buck buys a Powerball lottery ticket he doesn't think much beyond his need for change to air up his tire. He forgets all about the ticket until word spreads that the winning ticket was sold in LA and hasn't been claimed yet and pretty much dismisses it. After all, there's no way he won the lottery. Turns out no, he really did win the Powerball, to the tune of 295 million dollars and just in time for Christmas. He's going to make sure the 118 has the best Christmas of their lives. And just maybe he'll have a good one too.

WHAT IN THE FANFICTION…
My spoiler thoughts for episode 6x13
dfcghvjk Everyone at the call was ????? Buck knows math now ??????
Shut up, the first scene with Bobby and Athena was hella cute.
Chimney very much has an uncle vibe with Denny.
THE BUCKLEY-DIAZ SCENE. That was so fucking domestic, OH MY GOD. Buck saying “I’m the guy with the answers… I like that.” Me thinks this means Buck is figuring his shit out. 👀 So he’s that much closer to knowing he wants and can be with Eddie. 👀 Buck had SUCH heart eyes any time he looked at Eddie, although Eddie never saw them hmmm. Christopher thinks Buck can do anything, everything. That kid adores Buck (re: his other dad). 🥺
Please. Eddie and Buck were so husband shaped swindling (??) money out of their coworkers. 😆Eddie be like, “My husband can do math now… Huh, let’s see how WE can make money out of this 😘.”
The guy doing the haircuts? Did he even ask if the teenage girls wanted to be in his video? Idk, maybe they knew, but I didn’t dig that.
THE. POKER GAME. YEAH UM, EDDIE AND BUCK LOOKED SOOOOOO GOOD. Eddie joking about taking Buck’s newfound skills to Vegas. (and a surprise wedding hm?) The chief caught on real quick to Buck counting. 😆 Eddie had nothing but heart eyes for Buck. Buck can do math, and hat’s hot. 😏 No but seriously, Eddie was 🥰🥰🥰 at Buck the entire time.
Toni and Ramon are the only grandparents/parents that have rights. I said what I said.
The vibrator call. Drfghjkrtcfghvhuk PLEASE. Only Hen, Buck, and Eddie were there too? Seems… queer. 👀 And RIGHT WHEN Buck starts talking about previous women he’s been with, Eddie is all, “No. Buck, not now and frankly, never. Thanks.” 😆😆 Eddie doesn’t want to hear about, like, any women, I think when they pertain romantically to Buck or even himself. Goddddd Eddie is so gay hahahaha. And jealous. I loved this silly call. I love silly calls like this.
Omfg Buck is calling previous women he’s slept with to see if it was good? If he was good????? dfghytredfg
They arrested a woman for a coupon scam? …Okay, well that’s a new flavor of copganda where they roped in Chimney and Bobby this time. Ew. Maddie’s already helped a previous cop thing I think back in 5B or something. Didn’t care for that.
Yesss Karen. Ma’am. Idk y’all, just loved Karen this episode. And I appreciated the open but hard conversation Hen and Karen had with Denny’s dad.
Buck is Chris’s other dad!!! They were making cookies together!!!! We should all know this is to help the audience (especially the general audience) understand that Buck and Chris 1) have a relationship outside of Eddie, and 2) showing that Buck is another parent to Chris. And did y’all notice Chris wearing a shirt with skateboards on them? Yet another time Chris has worn a shirt like this to tie back into the big event of Buck and Eddie building a special skateboard for Chris in season 3.
So anyway I think Bathena remains the kinkiest couple. Shut upppp the “after their run” scene was cute.
We were FED with Buddie content this episode, I am LIVING. I’m also curious how after *gestures* all of that? How in the world is Eddie going on dates?? I’m not mad, I’m just hella curious. Is Eddie gonna go on dates really just to make Pepa happy or something? I’m intrigued how that will play out, like, beyond the dates not working out. Because hello? Again, Eddie and Buck were sooooo married in this episode.
