Stadia made its way to Android TV on June 23 and since then over 50,000 people have downloaded the app from the Google Play store. Google announced early in June that the first version of Stadia, its game streaming service, will be coming to Chromecast with Google TV as well as few other devices such as Nvidia Shield TV, Xiaomi Mi Box models, and others. Streaming digits this Sunday Evening. Breathed new life once again into my vintage #murphy radio, this time via #chromecastaudio by #google. Using #localcast to stream my collection on my #nas via #wifi Music is Buena Vista Social Club's Rhythms del Mundo rendition by #u2 and #cocofreeman This radio once operated in its original tube form. In 2008, I had thrown in a #logitech #squeezebox which bit the dust last year. Squeezeboxes these days are rarer than hens teeth and a brand new Chromecast is still cheaper than some well used squeezeboxes. Amplification is still via a circa 2002 #cambridgesoundworks #fps1000 speaker set that I purchased in 2002 on my first recce of Canada. It throws out a decent 3.5 watts at the satellite stages and 10 watts at the sub. ChromeCast Audio - The end of multiroom systems ?

Meet the Google Chromecast Audio, designed to bring wireless streaming to your offline speakers and amplifiers. The new updated Chromecast for audio is a really big deal for the audio industry.

By launching an entry level adaptor for existing speakers they are all set to take over the multiroom business from Sonos, Denon Heos and Bluesound. 

There will be a multi-room mode, for those with several Chromecast Audio devices dotted around the house. Assuming you already have speakers in different rooms, attaching this little dongle would be a cheap way to get them online and take the fight to the likes of Sonos.

The feature is not fully ready yet, but Google promises it will be made available with a future software update. 

How the Chromecast Audio sounds depends on what device you use it on and what service you’ve chosen. As a general rule, we’d say that you get a performance not far short of what you get when physically plugging in a device.

Im hugely excited to see Google’s bag of streaming tricks being used for music.

In a world increasingly defined by the latest products, it is great to see something that rewards you for holding on to your existing equipment.

How to: Chromecast Audio with Apple Music / AirPlay

The Sabrent Wi-Fi Audio Receiver is the Chromecast Audio for Apple Music users.

When Google recently released an audio-only version of their popular Chromecast wireless streaming device, I was pretty excited. I had tried using a Bluetooth audio receiver in the past, but decided it was more trouble than it was worth. The quality sucked, there were always problems pairing, and you couldn’t move your phone too far from the speakers. The Chromecast Audio promised to revolutionize connecting your phone to a pair of speakers or home entertainment system, so I ordered one right away.

Unfortunately, there was a big problem - Chromecast Audio doesn’t support Apple Music. I am a recent Apple Music convert, and as I expect that platform to grow in the future, Chromecast Audio isn’t going to be a viable option for a lot of iPhone users.

After some digging, I discovered that there is already a product which is functionally identical to the Chromecast Audio, except for Apple’s AirPlay standard instead of Google’s Chromecast - the Sabrent Wi-Fi Audio Receiver. I swapped this in for the Chromecast Audio on my speakers, and was thoroughly impressed by the product. It provides exactly the same functionality as the Chromecast Audio, but supports virtually any audio app on your iPhone or other AirPlay device. The best part is it also supports other steaming services like Spotify and Google Play Music on both iPhone and Android, so it is a universal connection point for everyone in my household. And at $20 on Amazon, it is much more affordable than Apple’s official solutions, the AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme base stations.

Hopefully this will save you from searching, I highly recommend the Sabrent Wi-Fi Audio Receiver for any iPhone users.
