I’m a very city girl and now I’m imagining going to the country side and meeting farmtale Sans…

You moved there for some reason and need a place to stay, Sans was kind enough to give you somewhere to stay with some chores to do to lower your rent. You’re not experienced and you’re not that good with the chores- sometimes farm animals freak you out (cows are big, theres so many chickens, what iS THAT GIANT SPIDER?!), you can’t move heavy stuff around, even the tools are heavy for you.

And… Sans thinks you’re cute. He can do the work you do much faster than you could, but he likes your company. Every time you drop a stack of hay and panic he can’t help but chuckle and throw it on top of the pile in his arms. He likes how you’re impressed by his skill with tools and the fact that he can drive tractors. You may not be good at your job, but he likes that you want to learn anyway. You like the animals when he teaches you how to read their behavior better.

He really likes it when he saves you from a giant bug and you give him “my hero” eyes…

My mum like this restaurant so we often patronize Feng Food (台湾味 “丰”) at Northpoint City. On a late weekend afternoon, we are here for our early dinner. Ordered a cup (S$3.20+) of cold Taiwanese Roselle Tea (台湾洛神花茶) to quench my thirst while waiting for our meals to be served.

Mum is not keen to try the other dishes on the menu so she just sticks to her S$12.80+ bowl of Guan Miao Mian with Specially Marinated Pork Chop (猪排关庙面). A large piece of pan-fried pork chop covered the entire blue porcelain bowl with a side of pickled cucumbers and spring onions for garnish.

Normally I would prefer rice dish for dinner but this time I went for the Feng Food Deluxe Dry Noodles (丰味干拌面). I chose the handmade Guan Miao Mian (关庙面) which cost a dollar extra at S$14.80+. It looks just like mum’s dinner but in an even bigger bowl with an extra fried egg, braised pork and pickled vegetables.

an aside. it’s very [clenches fist] vindicating to see stuff like the hard-light doors protecting shade’s library from the elements and like boba shops around vacuo because my god am i over the fandoms typical treatment of vacuo as this like backwards hellscape where technology doesn’t exist. as if there isn’t explicitly a ccts tower and at least one smaller regional support tower there, as if all the vacuan characters other than the anti-tech extremists don’t have scrolls.

(“watts would have been of no use to salem in vacuo” fanon in particular is so obnoxious. YOU THINK THERE ARENT COMPUTERS IN VACUO??)

like… it’s a resource-poor kingdom in a harsh desert environment where food/water are both scarce and the outskirts of the city are constantly shifting due to sinkholes opening up and there isn’t a functioning government to coordinate the resources + labor necessary to excavate abandoned buildings buried by sand storms. That’s It.

none of that precludes vacuo having the same level of technology as like mistral or vale. (which. it. explicitly. does. CCTS tower and all.) none of it precludes vacuo having… like… an economy that exists at all… bfrgdc

There was a time when mum and I patronized LeNu Chef Wai’s Noodle Bar (樂牛私房面家) often. Then there was a lull period of many months before we had dinner there again. As with previous trips, I will top up a few dollars for the Apple Black Tea and Silken Tofu with Century Egg (皮蛋豆腐) appetizer. Mum just requested for her usual Braised Beef Tendon Dry Noodle (红烧牛筋干捞面) which is dry style noodles and beef tendons topped with crispy sesame seeds crusted anchovies and crunchy peanuts on strips of cucumber and seaweed.

As for me, I went with the soup option of Braised Beef Combination Noodle (红烧牛三宝面). The bowl of beef noodles came with wagyu beef, springy beef tendon and shank meat with pickled sour vegetable in a flavourful and wholesome dark brown broth.
