book review || The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor

video review || Halloweekend Readathon — Reading Vlog 213: 5 books in 4 weekends

Atmosphere in this was fan-freaking-tastic, whether it was summer vacation or the crisp fall and now the transitioning into winter. A tense and unsettling feel permeates everything. There are also the terrific lines dropped in that feel so deep and analyzing of life.

Was really taken off guard by the sudden sexual assault that took place on page, so content warning for that.

The alternating timelines do make me intrigued but they’re not always well separated, as there will be comments that feel like young Eddie wouldn’t know, but it also makes the pacing super slow, which does make for great suspense and tension. There were a few well-done reveals that took me off guard, but each time it feels like the moment is just slightly too dragged out, with Eddie taking too long to put it together, or they’re dropped and Eddie has very little reaction to them.

I was pretty invested in the mystery all the way through. The main character is pretty unlikable but also I feel bad because he’s clearly gone through some rough things in his life. Any time he talks about women, it just feels slightly creepy or misogynistic. This little group of friends definitely makes me think of the Losers Club from It. The single girl, Nicky, definitely feels a bit like a Beverly knockoff.

By the end of the book… I did sort of guess the ending? Just not quite. That seemed like the most shockingly written reveal, but the epilogue was what really creeped me out.

I… kind of liked this? I just don’t know if this author’s thrillers are for me, just because the writing around the mystery didn’t feel satisfying in the end.

Halfway there!!

This has been my most successful attempt at the 100 dop challenege so far, and I'm really proud of myself.

I literally can not remember the last time I was this on top of things, especially despite the fact that I have so many things going on.

Question: if i started posting more original content what exactly would you like to see?

Upcoming Semester

This semester I have two days of classes, scheduled that way to allow me to go to school in between on wednesdays for coursework/homework/etc and to have monday/friday off due to copious doctors appointments and four hour long physical therapy sessions. I learned my lesson last semester (whoops, sorry Davidson).  Schedule: Tuesday/Thursday: 8:15-9:35 History of the U.S. to 1877 9:45-11:05 Intro to Women’s Studies 12:45-2:05 Intro to the Criminal Justice System Online (no announced time) Critical Thinking/Argumentation and Debate so overall, 12 credit hours compared to the 17 last semester. Mondays and Fridays are for Appointments. I’ll still be going to school on wednesdays to use the library/better internet and to provide moral support to my boyfriend who has to be there at 8 am on wednesdays.

CJ the X is talking about children’s entertainment here, about how it’s easy for adults to just make things that they know will make money but won’t make the kids in the audience think and ask questions.

i think it is also about math.

and science. and about … teaching any subject to kids. they deserve this energy everywhere, in cinemas and in school, too.

You know, I try pretty hard to write nice and pretty..,, but when my courtroom professor is hurriedly telling us the facts of a DUI case 5 minutes before we have to testify about said case, you just gotta do what you gotta do and that's that. Also the end of the semester is quickly approaching and I'm drowning. B)

Oct. 31st ‘17 - Held Back

First off, Happy Halloween!!!!! 🎃👻✨

I’m oddly not in too much of a halloween spirit, which is odd because it’s my favorite holiday! I haven’t felt too much of anything to be honest. But hopefully my progress once I start studying will change that.

Speaking of studying, my textbook arrival date has been pushed all the way back a week. Which means....I’ll be pushed back a week of progress. I made a strict schedule of how many pages a day on certain days to finish the book in a very specific amount of time. And that’s gonna be pushed back.

I mean it’s not that big of a deal, but I was really looking forward to starting my textbook journey. My workbook came in the mail yesterday, along with the rest of my supplies. So, I’m kinda stuck with that false hope of studying soon because I keep looking at it...

I guess I could go over the introduction of 한글 because I already know it? So I don’t necessarily have to wait for the textbook? But still. I don’t know...

Today I’m just going finish printing out my vocabulary words (if anyone wants the exact list I’m going to be using and/or the schedule I have planned out, feel free to ask!!!) and writing out my schedule. Then off to pass out candy!! 🍬 🍭 🎃

Also, i wanted to use my bullet journal more often but how my schedule is set up, I might not even have enough time... we shall see I guess.

🌠 Week 1 of the 2020 Quarantine Challenge! 🌠

I'm a little late to the game but that's fine.

🌠 Mon - Have you made a study schedule?

I have a weekly schedule, in the picture above, but other than that not really. I'm still working both of my jobs (deemed essential businesses) so mostly I'm just fitting in my homework around my work schedule. I am on top of my work and trying to get ahead.

🌠 Tues - How are you being taught your lessons?

For my marketing class we're using Zoom. In the first picture my fiancé and I are actually both using zoom for our different classes.

For my macroeconomics class we're using Shindig, which I do not like.

For english, criminology, and police and the community we're using blackboard- mostly the discussion boards.

🌠 Wed - What's your favorite study snack?

hi! my name’s Harley and i wanted to make a quick introduction because i’ll probably end up having this blog as a studyblr lol. 

anyway, some quick facts: 

i’m 17 years old

i’m from england

i’m currently in year 12 and studying A levels

my three A levels are chemistry, biology and maths

i want to study chemistry at uni

i’m also doing an epq (extended project qualification), which is a 5000 word report/research paper thing

i used to study further maths as a fourth A level, but then it took up too much time so i dropped it lmao

i genuinely love chemistry, i think it’s such a fascinating subject and i can’t wait to study it in more detail in the future :)

some less academic tidbits: 

i’m a huge fan of harry potter lol (ravenclaw all the way)

i play both violin and cello, although i’ve been playing violin a lot longer (round about nine years) than cello (coming up to three years at Easter)

i’m a scorpio and i’m not evil :)

i love cats... a lot. maybe too much. i have two cats, a tiny but fully grown cat named Noa (oh my gosh she is so pretty) and a black kitty called Binx. He is the most affectionate creature i have ever met.

before i started my gcses, i had no idea that a study community even existed. and then i got really into it during the summer when i had no exams, dropped it for a bit and now i'm back lmao.

i love writing, especially poetry, and i’m in the poetry club at school. in fact, ‘scripturient’ means ’having a strong urge to write’. 

i really like dark, earthy aesthetics. i love pastel but dark green!! plants!!

i actually find it really hard to process my emotions and know what i'm thinking unless i write it out.

some of my favourite artists are: conan gray, imagine dragons, post malone, joji, arctic monkeys, wallows, the cure, and panic! at the disco. 

idk if this is a good fact or not but i currently have two jobs, but one is before school and the other is a summer job (perfect for sixth form tbh)

(Re) Intro of a New Studyblr
