hiiii :) i saw your art about agrippa and octavian and i found pretty interesting their dynamic and obviously the artistic side, i was kinda of curious how would you represent that agrippa marry julia the daughter of octavian

it's octavian just going from being best friend/ lover/ liege to father-in-law

so! I don't really think their personal dynamic changes that much despite any changes of legal labels and familial proximity

octavian and agrippa functionally rule rome for a bit as co-regents in all but name (with octavian granting agrippa more or less equal political power to his own), and solidifying personal or political ties through marriage alliances is nothing new, like: julius caesar does it w/ julia and pompey, octavian does it with octavia & mark antony (although octavia actually operates on a much more even footing to her brother than a lot of people give her credit for) it's that octavian does it TWICE with agrippa (first with his niece, claudia marcella major, and then even more immediately with his daughter, julia) that makes me go, oh okay. interesting, fellas.

all of that + agrippa's habit of distancing himself from his own family (name/history) and giving octavian credit for all his own successes over and over again without octavian asking (to agrippa's own detriment [see: the signet ring incident], and octavian does ask: only he asks this of marcus licinius crassus (consul 30 BC) because crassus' successes are a threat, not a gift) and octavian creating a single point of failure, so to speak, with his dynast building plans because he doesn't effectively diversify his portfolio beyond agrippa is all very. well.

(like, I do think it's interesting that octavian tries to make agrippa his heir-successor on more than one occasion [through marriage, the signet ring, can't forget that crown incident, and an honorable mention for the display of grief he has on agrippa's death] I mostly think that their continuing to do All Of That All The Time made problems for other people)

Orphanage: At the age of 5, she experienced being neglected and sometimes abused

Reason for joining the military: She wanted to start a new, fresh start in a new place, looking for another purpose, as she felt lost in life now that a problem revolved around her and her mother. When her uncle found and discovered Elena (her brother's daughter) alive, he kept them in harm's way. Her uncle was the one who convinced her as he promised to help her if she returned the favor to find who was after them. Besides that, her idea was mostly helping and being involved in saving other lives, especially gaining inspiration from her father for who he was before. But through it, her uncle was tough and strict in guiding her and training her before she entered due to his own experiences. He didn't want her to mess up.

Love history: Yes, she fell in love with a boy in her second year of college, named Aaron, and they have been friends since their first year of college. They confessed and started "dating." Nothing romantic happened between the two, but later to realized she was just being used by him to give himself attention on becoming popular to get close to another girl. If she ever has an eye or loves someone again, she would rather keep it herself and also take her time to trust them and observe to see if they really love her back. Currently, she has no love interest, puts aside finding someone to love, and instead continues only focusing on her career/job and future to stop who's after her family. Once she turned 13, Luisa had a real talk with Elena about her real family, showing her a burnt photo that they found of them. 'Prey’ editor Claudia Castello forging her own path  

(News4usonline) - When it comes to building her film portfolio credits, Prey film editor Claudia Castello is steadily chopping wood. The longer she works as a film editor, producer and director, the more notable her projects have become. Castello has a total of 23 credits as an editor. That may not be a whole lot to some people, but the quality of projects she has worked on speaks volumes about the kind of work she does. According to her IDMB page, Castello got her first screen credit as a film editor when she worked on The Achievers: The Story of the Lebowski Fans.

In 2013, she landed a notable gig in editing Fruitvale Station, which stars Michael B. Jordan. Two years later, she was editing Creed, another Jordan breakout film. And then the big one came along. She worked on the hit Marvel film Black Panther as a film editor in 2018.     Just like stacking chips, Castello has been putting in the work as it relates to enlarging her editing portfolio. Her work is even more prolific because she is one of the few women in the movie-making industry working as a film editor. According to a 2021 Celluloid Ceiling study, women comprised just 22 percent of all film editors out of the top 250 highest performing movies last year, only a two percent increase from 1998.           Despite those numbers, Castello has managed to kick the lack of gender opportunity door wide open by producing a high-profile resume body of work on highly successful films. Now comes Prey, the heralded Hulu prequel to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Predator.

While the storyline focuses on the Earth invader, it also pays homage to Native Americans. Castello took some time out of her busy schedule to share her thoughts about Prey with News4usonline Editor Dennis J. Freeman.        Dennis J Freeman: What led you to become part of the Prey? Claudia Castello: “The project came my way through my agent, and it immediately caught my attention for being a Predator movie with an indigenous woman in the lead role! As I am Brazilian and my country has strong indigenous roots, as does the whole American continent, I got really excited. The story was well written, then I looked up Dan Trachtenberg's previous work. The next thing I knew I was jumping up and down ready to start! I knew it would be a great project.”  DJF: What was the biggest challenge for you in editing this film? CC: “The biggest challenge in most movies is to write a story that will stay the same throughout production and post-production. It's nearly impossible since a movie is written/rewritten at least three times. The first being is the script (if the script is inadequate, the end result will never be good, and this script was so well written), then directing and lastly, the editing. Considering that there are so many unpredictable elements during production and post, the movie becomes a living thing. After the movie leaves the paper, it starts the process of becoming what it wants to be. In the editing room, we find out what it wants to be. That's what happened with Prey. The challenge in the editing room is to be the movie's best psychiatrist. Meaning that things have to be clarified, bridged, rewritten in words or images... And that is one of the most interesting and challenging component for me in the process.” DJF: How much did working on previous projects such as Fruitvale Station and Black Panther help you in editing Prey? CC: “Immensely. All the good things and bad things add up. That's another thing I love about working independently. I can always try new strategies, bring what I've learned from previous challenges and start fresh again and again. It's precious.” DJF: What drew you into film editing? What aspects do you enjoy most about your job? CC: “I became an editor almost by accident. I came to the U.S. after finishing my undergrad in Journalism to learn English, and I took a few community classes in broadcast and film because I wanted to do documentaries. One thing led to the other, I found myself working at a boutique commercial production company in Venice, California. I learned Final Cut and started doing extremely basic editing and told a friend I could edit her short movie, even though I had no clue of how to put a scene together. I like to learn and that was my fuel to keep going. The next thing you know, I started a post-grad degree at USC, and then I started a career in the movie industry and I am still learning every single day. I think that is what drives me. The possibility of being in movement, being like water.”

CC: “Even though Prey is a prequel, it's also a standalone film. So, I dug into it and enjoyed watching all the Predator and AVP movies. I'm a huge fan! There were many recurring Predator franchise elements that were fun to work with in Prey and important to care for to respect its culture. At the same time, we had the freedom to make it unique and enjoyable to watch for anyone.” DJF: Removing extra footage is part of what you do as a film editor. With that said, is there footage that you wish you would have been able to keep in Prey? “There are no regrets.” DJF: Just how difficult is it to determine what footage to keep and what footage to discard? CC: “As I watch dailies, I'm already editing in my head. I try to imagine where the camera needs to be for each moment, thinking about the audience's best understanding and involvement in the story, then, I start picking the shots accordingly. I'm also very driven by performance, so it's a negotiation between elements.” DJF: When you look at the final product of Prey, what is your opinion on what you were able to capture? CC. “I feel like I did my best with the material and time I had in my hands.”  DJF: How would you describe your career? CC: “As a constantly evolving challenge and I feel like it has been going well overall.”

It's a beautiful story and I'm very excited about it.” DJF: How much of an influence has Ryan Coogler been on you and your career? CC: “Huge. I love him as a friend, a human being, and as an extremely talented artist. I owe a lot to our collaborations over so many years.” DJF: “Are you ever satisfied with your projects when they're done or do you feel the need to do more in the editing process? This time around with The Great Glavenisean Theater, it’s currently Ariel. They’re integral to the movement of the story so much, not just the plot but how it happens from the very beginning, and I’m so excited to write a lot of future scenes with them.

Blood Red: Favourite piece of dialogue from your wip

this would actually be an entire ridiculous conversation in chapter four, at the first cast party Morgan attends (he’s overwhelmed and a loser)

“Claudia,” Deirdre says, catching a hold of the woman’s arm and hauling her around, jostling a couple behind her. “Claudia! Have you met Morgan? He’s our new seamster.”

“He absolutely is not,” Claudia replies determinedly, a frown etched over her face. Her dress is a green thing, sequins dripping off a full, handsome figure. She clocks my new presence immediately, narrowing her eyes at me. “Who are you?”

“Morgan Hastings, ma’am,” I say, attempting to discreetly rid the pastry flakes on my trousers. “I’m, ah—I’m a designer.”

“Can you sew?” she asks. I resist the urge to ruin my lip beneath my teeth.

“Can he sew,” Travis echoes, voice cracking back with entertainment. Someone is swinging in a loop of drapery hanging from the chandelier, whooping amid saxophone honks. “You should see his portfolio, Claudia! Better you snap him up and put his talents to use here before Duchmarte or Clyingdale swallows him whole.”

“Duchmarte,” Claudia remarks, her tone riddled with rancor, “they haven’t put quality out in the shops for years. You can do better?”

“I dare say I can, ma’am,” I reply, my mouth twitching as I attempt to hold up under her scrutiny. I know my own prowess. Travis has apparently made himself an expert in it right away, his ball a bolster in my court that I will ride as much as I can, regardless of credibility.

“He’s an emerald,” Travis says, reminding me bafflingly of my cousin. “You’d be making a mistake passing him up, Claudia.”

“We do so need a new seamster,” Deirdre adds, “my fits have been too small ever since.”

“Cora is trying her best,” Seonghwa excuses, lazy and warm. “You look lovely, Deirdre.”

Claudia pins her gaze on him, a garlanded hand falling on her hip. “Are you pulling another prank on me, Seonghwa? I trust your gentleman rascal as far as I can throw him.”

“Me?” Seonghwa replies, laying a palm on his chest, irritatingly benign and adored for how his eyes cinch and glitter. “Never, Claudia.”

Claudia purses her lips, turning her gaze back to me. “You don’t have your portfolio with you, do you?” she asks, before shaking her head and waving a hand. “No matter, bring it with you tomorrow and I’ll take a look. Lord knows we could use the help of a seamster who knows what he’s doing, and Seonghwa’s too harmless to lie about such a thing, especially after tearing his shirt tonight.”

“Seonghwa’s never lied in his life,” Deirdre says sagely, and Seonghwa casts her an appreciative smile as though she’s given him the most genuine of compliments. I generate a mixed bag of doubt that is stowed away as I realize Claudia is still looking at me expectantly for any affirmation.

“Yes,” I fumble, “yes, of course. I would be delighted.”

sorry i just mean to clarify my point in that women who are older like hannah (27 years old) and claudia (33 years old) are playing teenagers, and imo show sophie should be aged up like how they changed kate from 21 to 26. so what i was trying to say is I (personally) cant see sophie being played by an actress who is AND looks younger than actresses who ARE playing teenagers. but overall agreed let alone her management already listing bridgerton on her artist portfolio

Last thing I googled: Avanti 1984 convertible/ Avanti timeline. Not sure if this would interest anyone, but it got cut from my article so I’ll put it here.

There was a Avanti II red convertible prototype used in various film productions in the 80s including like one scene of the karate kid. The idea I assume was that it’d promo for the expected release of the first ever Avanti convertible slated to come out in 1984, I found press releases for this. So if you google like red car karate kid you get Avanti 1984 convertible, despite that not being what the car actually is and there being little information about the actual car. Which is weird. After days of research I realized that the 1984 production of Avanti’s all had to be recalled. They were supposed to use a very special racing paint, and I don’t know if it was the resin bumpers or the fiberglass parts, or just a new paint not used on this type of car before, but the paint just refused to stick. And like this issue happened fast, leading to a mass recall of all the produced 1984 models because they were under factory warranty. Which meant Avanti had to foot the bill. And subsequently went bankrupt for like the models 3rd or 4th time. When it passed over to new ownership, again, they finally picked up the convertibles and actually produced them in 1987.

All of this meaning that the convertible from the movie and a bunch of other random things is one of a kind and the advertisement for the models you suppose it was meant for don’t actually exist, or if that character owned that car it would’ve started peeling and turned pretty ugly fast and thus would’ve had to be sent back to the factory/Avanti in 1984/1985. It also means, for some bizarre reason despite being like a famous film and TV car, you can’t find it anywhere.  Or at least I couldn’t.

So what does this mean? This means in the world of the movies, if he has this brand new 1984 Avanti convertible and not the prototype, as most people assume it’s meant to be, then shortly after his sensei tries to murder him and he loses pretty much everything and falls apart due to trauma, his nearly $40,000 car (that’s how much they were expected to go for according to the press release) also starts to chip and fall apart on him.

Something I want to do right now:

Get everything that is on my creative back burner and to do list off of it. I have 2 fanfics that are close to being done that I’d like to finish and get off my plate. One is much closer to being done then the other.

I have the audio of one podcast episode sitting on my computer and that has been for a year that a friend has very patiently been waiting for me to edit, transcribe and upload, but I’ll need to record new audio explaining that it’s the last episode and a year old due to reasons and check with the friend I interviewed if they’d like to add any changes since it’s been a year.

I have a series on Italy that needs to be written up from my notes, the photos need to be pulled from my storage and uploaded to my travel blog/portfolio. I have 3-4 different novel first drafts that are sitting unfinished on my computer in various states of revision. I have a partial started butterfly needlepoint I need to finish, a whole bunch of yarn I was going to turn into scarves, a bunch of kits for making little crochet ghosts that I need to learn how to do. I need to find a violin repair shop and guitar repair shop and take both instruments in and see what the estimate for the repairs would be and then sign up for lessons. I need to revise my resume and update everything and apply to the job I have open in a tab. I need to start job hunting. I need to start some sort of financial planning so I can move out or like start that process. (No one has asked me to, but I miss living on my own)

I need to figure out how to find a local array of doctors because I’ve lived here now for 2ish years and with my insurance is being a pain I haven’t been able to figure out or find a basic primary care doctor, eye doctor, dentist ect and get overwhelmed every time I try because the system is a mess.

I need to reach out and respond to friends who I haven’t talked to since before my dad got sick. I need to read the books on grief my aunt gave me and dig around in the EAP while I still have access to it to look at their grief files.

I accidentally invited myself to a wedding and I need to see when that is and talk to the bride and either determine that I’m not going or make plans to go.

(Leaning towards not going because I just don’t have the energy but I owe a gift, and feel awful.)

I need to figure out a routine that gets me moving and out of the house, yet I’m so overwhelmed with everything on my to do list that are like indoor in front of computer things that I just don’t. One of my friends I think started rollerblading so I kind of want to reach out and see if she wants to meet up and try doing that together. I’ve asked my aunt to do archery and kayaking with me but there’s been no movement on either front yet.

I need to read the ten chapters for book club on Friday.

So essentially I want to sleep and do nothing because this list is overwhelming and maybe play the video games I haven’t.

Dream trip:

I have many. I’ve been wanting to do a cruise. When I was little we did Disney cruises with my grandparents and I’d kind of hoped to do one after getting back but *gestures vaguely*. I want it to be one that goes to other countries, so like the one that does Europe and just knock a whole bunch of “famous sites” off my list in one fell swoop. But I’m not going any time soon.

I want to go to House on the Rock and do a road trip with friends. I want to do a trip of the west coast and east coast. I want to see the parks. I want to go to Hawaii and Alaska. I want to visit my friend in Peru, and visit another friend in Canada. I want to make up the trip to New Zealand that I had to cancel. I want to do another trip with my aunt and uncle (not the speedy ones my last trip was with) and one with my cousins, I want to go somewhere with my sisters. I want to see my friends.
