The Whitfords had met a few men in their home town that had sailed the briny blue their whole lives. Anthea had often been chided for straying too close to these men when she was younger. He had a gentlemanly disposition, but she found that opposites could help with personal growth, and perhaps his whaler friend was able to coax him out of his boundaries.

It was more than apparent Mr. Tallmadge had placed his brother atop a pedestal of standards he wished to achieve himself. While it was incredibly sweet he admired his brother as much as it appeared he did, it could also be dangerous to have a bar set for oneself by how one viewed someone they loved. Even more so after said loved one's passing from the physical plane, and approval could not be sought by them, save through prayer.

The servant that had previously offered to take Ben's hat, and who had set the tea down in front of Anthea, came to pour a bit of a freshly heated brew into her cup. Anthea held her hand over the cup before he could do so and shook her head. He politely nodded and left the room. Anthea had plans to take the discussion elsewhere shortly.

“…But give me about a week… Perhaps a fortnight, if this proves truly difficult -- and I’ll come up with a piece that matches your temperament”.

She couldn't help smiling brightly at his assumption their acquaintance would last beyond this conversation, let alone a fortnight or more. It was a pleasant thought, and it had sparked her urge to officially befriend him.

"Cato is indeed not Shakespearean. He did write many plays about wars and battles, but they rarely suit my palette, outside of Macbeth. I would be willing to relearn them from your point of view. It might benefit me to experience them through someone who has lived through such events. I'm looking forward to the poem you decide best represents me. I should like to do the same for you, but with a song. Music speaks to me even more so than words".

After her offer of friendship, Anthea noticed Ben seemed understandably hesitant. His comment about a duel had her laughing once more, but in a softer manner. Temperamental as Lord Whitmore and Alexander might be, it was highly unlikely her new friendship would spark that level of violent response in her family members. She knew she would have to follow social protocol to the letter, keeping a chaperone with them at all times. It was something she was used to, to some degree, but hadn't done in several years. She was simply happy to have made a friend at all, regardless of gender or roots. His acceptance, and the heat of his hand, caused her soul to stir with joy and anticipation. She gave it a light squeeze before letting go and laughing. Her mirth had no end in his presence, but she did tend to be in a good mood when something new presented itself in her life.

"I do prefer to form my own opinions, but I should think only the closest of friends tease in that way, as one's chosen siblings often do. I find it endearing, and see it as further proof I am right in my currently formed impression of you, Mr. Tallmadge. Now," she decided, gripping the arms of her chair and pressing her palms into them to stand up, "I don't know about you, but at present I think I'm in need of a good stretch and a turn about the grounds. If you have the time, and so wish it, I would be delighted if you would accompany me".

Her eyes fixed on the open archway leading into the hall, where one of the housemaids was still sitting in wait as her chaperone. Anthea raised her voice just enough for the older woman to hear. "Esther, I'm taking a stroll in the garden and perhaps the fields. I may need your services further, if my guest joins me". Esther was in her forties, with no children of her own, but she was kindly and kept a close watch on Anthea and her siblings since the day she'd been hired. She could be rather protective, despite them all being old enough to make their own decisions and venture on their own. Anthea was lucky Esther hadn't been around in her younger, more rebellious years, or she'd never have made it into town before or after being forbidden to go. Esther nodded and rose, glancing in Benjamin's direction as if waiting for him to make a move, or speak an affirmation.

Female laughter never got old, and most especially since it was rarely earned in his presence -- or at least, whenever it wasn't at his expense. Biting back a smile, Benjamin ducked his head, hiding his gaze while the room was momentarily filled with genuine mirth. That was a sound he was still growing accustomed to. Screams and pain had been the norm out on the battlefield, so to hear that love and warmth, and joy still existed was both surreal and a comfort.

"I can assure you, I don't tend to lose my tongue around children," Benjamin promised. "One of my best friends is a whaler -- a seaman -- so his language is vastly colorful. I'm afraid it rubs off on me every so often."

A shift overcame Anthea's gentle eyes, and Benjamin prepared himself for the worst. She shifted in her seat, leaning forward before offering her condolences.

For a moment, a flutter formed inside Benjamin's chest. He always fell prey to flattery when it came to Samuel, no matter what was spoken. In many ways he'd admired, revered his younger brother, and looked to him as the shining beacon he could never even dream of becoming.

With a lump in his throat, Benjamin softly affirmed, "He was...yes. A very wonderful man. In time, I hope I can be even half the person he was." Here, he inclined his head. "Thank you, Miss Whitford."

She hummed, considering his earlier query. “I have read many of Shakespeare’s works, and seen them acted out. I can’t say I’m talented enough to decipher poetry often, except through music, but I attempt to."

"It's not for everyone," Benjamin allowed, "but I certainly enjoy the beauty of a good poem. Sometimes, I take it upon myself to assign poetry to my friends..." Here, he appraised Anthea with a newfound interest. "We have only just met, so I'm afraid I can't speak a poem with confidence in your name, but give me about a week...perhaps a fortnight, if this proves truly difficult -- and I'll come up with a piece that matches your temperament."

A bit embarrassed, he chewed his cheek. Caleb and Abe, in particular, often teased him for being so sentimental and sensitive, though they'd appreciated it when he'd assigned them both the poem "The Ass and the Flute." He doubted they understood the meaning, so much as the fact they enjoyed saying ass over and over.

Clearing his throat, he added, "I'm rather fond of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Though in college, we were required to perform the more political works, like Cato...which...is not Shakespeare, of course."

Anthea's eyes flashed with an impish sheen, and Benjamin blinked rapidly, a bit perplexed when she leaned toward him. Had he said something to merit such a look?

“Considering where you are, who we both are, what you’ve been part of, and why you’re here, I shall make a bold move," she announced. "I would extend my hand in friendship, if you will permit me."

Benjamin opened and closed his mouth a few times. It was admittedly a bold move -- one he doubted her father would approve of -- and with a soft, self-conscious little laugh, he affirmed, "I will permit it, of course...so long as no one comes calling for a duel in your name."

A chaperone would be needed for this friendship, of course, but he felt no need to draw this to Anthea's attention, lest he embarrass her. Nevertheless, her entreaty was rather touching -- he'd never had anyone offer to lend an ear before, even his dearest friends. Caleb, Abe, and Anna weren't exactly the type to wear their hearts on their sleeve, and he'd always striven to be more like them in that regard.

Anthea extended her hand across the table, palm up and waiting, expectant.

Mouth dry, Benjamin hesitated, then laid his hand over top of hers in a gentle clasp. Giving it a proper shake, his expression warmed as he affirmed, "Then we are friends...for better or for worse. Though according to my friends back home, that will undoubtedly be 'for worse.'"

Maturing. You are growing out of certain things that no longer resonate with you. Some of you may have experienced or are currently experiencing a spiritual awakening. Everything is shifting for your highest purpose, so don't panic or resist! You are no longer interested in repeating the same cycles.

The months of March, June, July, August, and October are of significance relating to your manifestations.

Good news about an interview or a deal. This can apply if you have aspirations of becoming a singer or pursuing a career in the creative field.

A new car. For some, this could be your first car, and for others, you could be passing your driver's test, getting your driver's license or your driving skills improving.

Going out on more dates. This could either be solo dates or allowing yourself to be wined and dined by others.

A mentor.

Enrolling in school to further your education or to earn a certification/license. If you are currently enrolled in school, your grades will improve and you will pass your courses. For others, yes, you will graduate, just stay focused and continue to study and work hard. This applies if you are studying for exams or a standardized test as well, you will get the results that you are seeking. An acceptance letter.

You will be more confident in sharing your talent with the world. You are beginning to believe in yourself and you are ready to share your talents with the world. You were meant to stand out and inspire others, you have so many people that look up or will look up to you as inspiration. "Allow me to reintroduce myself" is what I heard.

The ability to speak your manifestations into existence is becoming more powerful and potent. Remember that there is power in the tongue, so make sure, you are using it wisely. I also channeled that some of you are listening to subliminals to help you attract and manifest your "dream life", and receive your desired results.
