overall notes: apparently you can find the show on paramount plus but I pirated it so I can’t say anything for captions or availability. it’s a little silly sometimes but it’s way more interesting than a lot of your average medical dramas imo.

COMMUNITY REWATCH, 1x07: “Introduction to Statistics”
-Oh, I totally forgot about the teacher that Jeff has the hots for.
-Wait, Greendale actually has a teacher that takes her job seriously and might be good at it?
-Britta's costume is so cute.
-Abed's Batman voice is hilarious. I love it.
-Wait, Star Burns gives Pierce drugs?!
-Why is Chang going to so fast on this campus?
-Shirley, what the hell?
-Pierce: "No, Abed."
Tumblr media
-Abed: "I know I'm not Batman and you could try not being a jerk." Abed, once again, giving Jeff the harsh truth.
-The way Pierce's trip is filmed is funny.
-So, because he begged you for sex, you go against your rule and decided to fuck Jeff?
-Abed to the rescue!
-This Abed narration at the end.
Tumblr media
-Jeff and Annie dancing together!!
-Troy's dancing by himself while looking in a mirror!!
Tumblr media
-I really want to know how much of Donald and Danny's ending stuff is scripted or just them improving the whole thing.

Punch Blanch Freeze Fry
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think punch, blanch, freeze and fry are the underlying themes of season 1-4 and the beef (the meat/the substance/the real connection) will be the underlying theme of a possible season 5.
For context in this scene in 1x01 Ebra, who represents an older version of Carmy, keeps asking Carmy for the beef before he can do anything else. Carmy either ignores him or tries to divert him to do other tasks first. Carmy tells/asks Ebra if he can punch 'em, blanch 'em, freeze 'em and fry 'em before the beef.
Seeing as 3 of these words are specifically talking about preparing food, I googled extensively what punch means in terms of cooking and found nothing and you wouldn't literally punch a raw potato or onion, if anything that would come after the blanching. So it's not referring to a food preparation method like the other 3 so it can only mean literal or metaphorical punching.
S1 - Punch
Coincidentally Carmy was literally punched in 1x01
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were multiple metaphorical gut punches in S1 too. In the first few episodes, most of the season really, he was taking metaphorical/verbal punches from everybody at The Beef. Meeting Syd was a less negative, shock to his system kind of gut punch. We saw him being psychologically beaten down by Chef David in 1x02, being mistaken for Micheal in 1x04, the review & Syd leaving in 1x07, finding out Mikey left him a letter in 1x08, then reading the letter and Syd coming back. Tbh there are gut punches for Carmy every season but early S1 was heavy on the theme of him basically being everyone's punching bag.
S2 - Blanch
Tumblr media
Carmy was in "hot water" with Syd, their chemistry was heating up and things were getting "steamy" between them at the start of S2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was plunged into cold, icy water when he ran into Claire, hence all the heavily blue filtered scenes since then. But the cooling process in blanching isn't meant to last for an extended period of time, it's only supposed to be seconds, much quicker than the cooking process itself.
Tumblr media
Carmy entertained/endured Claire (the ice cold water) for awhile in the supermarket, then he tried to get out of the ice water almost immediately by giving her a fake number but she (and Neil Fak) kept him submerged. There's also the blue scenes of S2 that got gradually darker the more time Carmy spent with Claire and the implication/imagery of him drowning and being suffocated by her at the end of their very dark blue sex scene.
Also the fire suppression was in S2! "Fire suppression" is basically what the process of blanching is; cooling down/regulating heat. But the cooling isn't instant, there's still residual heat and "steam" as the cooling process is happening:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And even after the "successful" fire suppression in 2x08 the heat was still there:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blanching isn't supposed to make food frozen or even cold necessarily, it's just meant to cool it enough to stop the cooking process so there should still be some warmth left.
But Carmy spent way too long in the ice water with Claire and ended up too cold or frozen by the end of S2.
S3 - Freeze
Self explanatory. The theme of S3 was Carmy still being stuck in the freezer, frozen and unable to get himself out of the ice. He can't escape the ice cold water (his relationship with Claire) even in his thoughts, he's submerged and trapped in it. There was barely any heat left between Sydcarmy even though Carmy tried to keep the fire going. Carmy was cold and rigid (like ice) for most of S3.
3 out of 4 line up almost perfectly with the themes of each season and if this theory is correct then the theme of S4 will be frying, which means heat, which means the fire between Carmy and Syd is going to ramp up/become evident again somehow. Probably through frustration with each other as they continue to not communicate properly. Mostly I think Carmy's just gonna be getting cooked. By Claire, by Syd, by Richie, maybe even Nat too.
We kind of saw Carmy take a metaphorical step out of the freezer in 3x10 after confronting Chef David and speaking to Chef Terry (I think it started in 3x09 when he asked Syd to go to Ever tbh, he definitely let himself feel some heat for a second there). So in 4x01/4x02 he's probably going to be dropped straight into the frying pan having to deal with the fallout of his actions towards everyone during S3.
If you think about what happens to frozen food when you put it straight into very hot oil; the pretty volatile reaction when the ice hits the hot oil, the splaterring and spitting oil that will burn if you're too close, the loud noises, the steam that gets released as the temperature drastically changes, the hardening of the outer layer etc (which I hope means Carmy grows a thicker skin and is able to finally tell Claire and the Faks no), I'm guessing that process is along the lines of how things will play out in S4. Similar to how the blanching process played out in S2.
If there's a season 5 I think the theme will be beef/substance/real connection, if not it will be at the end of S4 but I definitely think it's coming. At some point we're going back to the beef/the substance/ the real connections that the show was built on in S1.

ROUND 1B, MATCH 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Descriptions/Propaganda under the cut:
The five great laws (2x03)
Santiago reads out the 'Great Laws' that all in the coven must abide by to Claudia as part of an initiation ritual. Cutting between Claudia with the coven and Louis walking with Armand through the sewers, this scene highlights the danger that the Paris coven poses to Louis and Claudia. Each law that Santiago reads aloud has either been broken by Louis and Claudia, or will be broken as the season progresses, this threat continuing to loom over the two after this episode. This scene reinforces the doomed relationship between Louis and Claudia as a theme for the season, the distance between the pair causing Louis to lose hope in his life, and the bond between the two driving Louis's decision to start his relationship with Armand. Additionally, Claudia's desire for community with the coven is dashed immediately after the initiation, as she is given the role of 'Baby Lu', epitomising her struggle throughout the series. The scene is scored continuously by 'The Five Great Laws' by Daniel Hart, which ebbs and flows dramatically with the scene. "Don't give up on her. Tell her she's beautiful. Tell her that every morning."

Killing Lestat (1x07)
All the tension and anticipation built up throughout 1x07 leads to this scene. After initially leading the audience into thinking Lestat and his lover Antoinette had bested Louis and Claudia's plan, Lestat suddenly chokes and falls, weakened from poisoned blood coursing through his veins. Louis watches on in horror and guilt while Claudia taunts, imitates and takes great enjoyment in Lestat's pain, even using his blood to note down his final words, "Mets-moi dans mon cercueil, Louis, Louis." (Put me in my coffin, Louis, Louis). Louis slices Lestat's throat with his cane from 1x01, embracing Lestat in his final moments until dropping him to the floor. The scene is beautifully scored by Daniel Hart's 'Vicious', reminding the audience of the pair's dangerous love and attachment to each other as it first appears at the end of 1x05. Afterwards, Daniel pokes holes in Louis's narrative, revealing that Louis purposefully avoided doing this to keep Lestat alive off of the rats in the dump. The scene is a captivating conclusion to the season, altering all character relationships in anticipation of season two. In Dubai, the mysterious Armand is finally revealed, and Daniel's confidence in questioning Louis increases. In New Orleans, Louis and Claudia's relationship is left fractured after Louis threatens her over Lestat's body, and Louis is guilt-ridden from killing his lover and maker. "Louis. We are joined by a chord. A chord that you cannot see, but it is real... I have loved you with all myself... I'm happy it was you... here with me... a la fin."

We went from 1x07 "Chef Sydney, you got that right?" to 3x03 "Fuck no, I'll do it."
Notice when you rewatch the season, you can see that their marriage is going through a difficult period, but there is still love, and the priority for Carmy is to be there for Sydney and remind himself that the labor shouldnt just be on Sydney. It's important for Sydney to remind Carmy that she can't do it all. Carmy's growth lies in committing to the relationship and being there for his family. Sydneys growth is communicating and soeaking her mind. For Carmy, it's don't avoid the challenges. Be present. There's emotional and mental labor they're learning to balance with each other.
It's fascinating how there's expansion yet contraction in their relationship for season 3.

Raven, the Empathetic Sorceress Part 1
I think there's a misconception about Raven's powers in Teen Titans 2003 - that she is just a witch who practices magic with none of the empathy powers from New Teen Titans (comics that the show is based). I understand the confusion but that can't be further from the truth
Part 2 is about TT03 Raven's Soul Self and is linked if you are interested. Part 3 about TT03 Raven's healing, conventional uses of empathy, and magic is linked as well!!
Tumblr media
(Sources in pink)
Emotions As Her Power & Her Curse
In TT03, Raven directly states her powers are driven by emotion
Tumblr media
(Teen Titans 1x07 "Switched": Raven & Starfire switch bodies & powers. Raven (in Starfire's body) is explaining her powers to Starfire bc Star (in Raven's body) was freaking out about their predicament)
Tumblr media
(New Teen Titans (1984) Annual 4 - Raven helping the Titans battle Muse who is attacking their nightmares)
Thus in TT03 like NTT, Raven is an empath- living off of the emotions of herself & others. However she also has to deny and subjugate all her emotions to protect everyone around her
Tumblr media
(Switched - Raven & Starfire are still switched and fighting bc of difficulty using the other's powers, and Starfire is upset at Raven's lack of emotions, and Raven explains why she can't feel anything)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Tales of New Teen Titans #2- Raven explains to the team that she was taught to deny her emotions from an early way by the leader of Azarath because of how dangerous her emotions can be)
Although she puts on an emotionless front, Raven in TT03 clearly feels everything no matter how much she tries to hide it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Teen Titans 1x06- Nevermore: 1st Gif- Beast Boy & Cyborg figure out they have encountered Raven's emotion & her emotions are in severe conflict 2nd Gif: Raven summons all her emoticlones: Happy, Timid (grey), Brave, Rudeness/Laziness, Sloth (brown), Knowledge, Passion/Love to achieve emotional harmony to resolve her inner turmoil & defeat Anger (Trigon) that is out of control)
Tumblr media
(New Teen Titans 16 - Raven admits her resentment over how she has to deny and hide her many emotions and close herself off from everyone)
All of this: needing & feeling a cacophony of discordant emotions while having to constantly rebuff these powerful, clashing emotions produces great internal conflict in Raven & pains her.
So to get some semblance of inner peace, she chooses isolation & solitude to survive and guard everyone else from her.
Tumblr media
(New Teen Titans (1984) Annual 1 - 1st image: Drone, a machine without emotion but desires to feel, recognizes although she tries to hide it, Raven is all emotion, and it pains her; 2nd image: Raven is communing with Drone. 3rd image-Drone notices Raven's solitude)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(1st Gif: Switched- Starfire wants to hang out with Raven, but takes a while to realize Raven wants to be left alone; 2nd Gif: Nevermore- Raven is trying to control her emotions & w/ Beast Boy & Cyborg in her mind interacting with Happy, so she uncharacteristically starts laughing & goes to be alone to control her emotions)
But even with the isolation, she still struggles to not lose control and ultimately not only suffers from the pain of the clashing emotions but also the torment of ongoing isolation
Tumblr media
(1st image: New Teen Titans (1980) #35- Raven confides in Cyborg and Beast Boy that she is scared to use her powers and Cyborg said she should let them help and Raven said she has to suffer alone; 2nd image: New Teen Titans (1980) #29- Wally confesses he's still in love with Raven but Raven -although she has feelings for him- say she can't love him & he should leave her & the Titans alone)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Teen Titans 3x06 Spellbound- 1st Gif: Cyborg and Beast Boy want to hang out with Raven. Raven said no because she wants to isolate herself, and Beast Buy calls her a creep which deeply hurts her. 2nd Gif: After defeating Malchinor, Raven isolates again and Beast Boy apologizes tor the pain she's feeling and reminds Raven she's not alone.)
In her isolation, Raven follows the ways of Azarath & frequently mediates to better focus her emotions and powers in order to gain more control.
Tumblr media
(1st image: Tales of New Teen Titans #2- Young Raven mediating alone. 2nd image: Tales of Teen Titans #42- Raven, struggling to control her powers, is mediating to control them, and Terra interrupts her. 3rd image: Tales of New Teen Titans #2- Arella, Raven's mom, and a monk of Azarath worry over how a young Raven is completely focused on mediation)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Teen Titans 2x08 Titan Rising- 1st and 2nd Gif: Raven is mediating because *she has to* while the other Titans are playing volleyball and want her to join them. Raven throws the volleyball back of Beast Boy after he interrupted and refuses to play with the team)
Tumblr media
(Titan Rising- Raven reveals that she doesn't trust Terra because she has to mediate every day to control her powers, so she doesn't believe Terra is suddenly able to control hers after Terra struggled so much to do so previously)
Thus, in times of great distress, disharmony, or even when she just needs to calm down, NTT Raven will often go to her place of mediation or calls on Azar/Azarath to help her regulate her emotions & to gain greater control over her powers
Tumblr media
(1st image: New Teen Titans (1984) Annual #4- Raven is attacking in her dream and escape to her place of mediation to gain the necessary power required to try to escape the attack; 2nd image: New Teen Titans (1980) #3- Raven goes to her place of mediation to gain power try to control Trigon and beg for Trigon's mercy but fails)
Tumblr media
(1st image and 2nd image: Tales of the Teen Titans #56- Raven is losing control and feels Trigon taking over so she goes to her place of mediation to ask Azar for help to not lose control ; 3rd image: Marvel and DC Present featuring The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans - Raven is trying to contain the Phoenix and calls on Azar to grant her power to do so, but Raven ultimately fails)
Likewise in TT03, Raven goes to her place of mediation frequently. And her place of mediation is clearly modeled after Raven's place of mediation in NTT.
Tumblr media
(Switched - Raven is trying to mediate in her place of mediation)
Tumblr media
(Nevermore- This collection of images is from Nevermore where Beast Boy and Cyborg enter Raven's mind and thus her place of mediation and help her control Trigon. These images of Raven's place of mediation clearly resemble Raven's place of mediation in the comics)
TT03 Raven's famous catchphrase- Azarath Metrion Zinthos- also is representative of this. With the catchphrase, Raven calls on Azar and the teachings of her home, Azarath to calm herself, to focus and to again gain greater control over & access to her powers*, particularly in times of great emotional turmoil.
Tumblr media
(Teen Titans 4x03 "Birthmark"- Raven is terrified because it is her birthday and Trigon is supposed to arrive, so to calm down and prevent Trigon's coming to Earth, she mediates and recites Azarath Metrion Zinthos)
Tumblr media
(Switched- Raven recites Azarath Metrion Zinthos, saving her and incidentally Starfire from being taken over by the Puppet King)
And why does Raven do all of this: go to all these lengths to be reserved, closed-off, and controlled at the risk of her happiness and sanity? Because with one slip-up, one out-of-control emotion, especially if that emotion is rage, it can get really bad for others around her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(New Teen Titans (1980) #30- Ignoring Raven's pleas, Phobia torments Raven with her greatest fears, provoking Raven to rage, causing Trigon to escape Raven, incapacitating Phobia & the Brotherhood of Evil and nearly killing everyone there including the Titans. Donna Troy stops Raven and Raven is able to regain control by almost killing herself)
Tumblr media
(Nevermore - Dr. Light continues to torment and hurt Raven, despite her pleas asking him to stay away. Dr. Light refuses and Raven, enraged, snaps and Trigon comes out and almost gleefully kills Dr. Light with Raven's darkness. Robin helps Raven snap out of it and Raven withdraws, horrified and ashamed)
Thus, Raven in both TT03 and NTT is an half-demon empath, powered by emotions yet continuously deny her own to keep the demon part- her father Trigon- at bay by using the teachings & methods of Azarath, her home.
There is so much more I want to say about Raven's powers in TT03 aligns with NTT: how much she uses her soul self, her teleportation, how she did heal several times in the show, how the show portrayed her empathy in a grounded sense & had her be the most understanding Titan, & how her sorcery isn't out of line with the comics either but I have run over the image limit here lmao
So I am making a part 2 & part 3!
I have linked part 2 and the final part, part 3 above! If anyone wants me to more of these types of post for other Titans, please let me know!
Tumblr media
*Aside - 1st image: New Teen Titans (1984) #5 - To achieve the highest form of her power, White Raven, Raven calls on Azar. 2nd image: Teen Titans 4x13 The End Part 3- Raven recites Azarath Metrion Zinthos to call on Azar and defeats Trigon permanently

in one of your tags you mentioned-
'one of the things that gets chatted about A LOT in teaching is meeting students at their point of need- which ted does NOT do with jamie'
I would love to hear more of your thoughts on this! Both in terms of what that concept entails, and also what you think Jamie's point of need was at the time versus what Ted saw the situation needing
(You have excellent tags btw, don't know if anyone's mentioned that)
I HAVE MANY THOUGHTS ON THIS THAT I LOVE THAT YOU'D LOVE TO HEAR!
(I have more thoughts than I anticipated, this got errr, long. Whoops)
(potentially necessary/relevant background here is I am a high school teacher 👋)
Okie dokie, so, one of the principles of best practice in teaching is the idea I tag-rambled above; meet both the individual students and collective class at their point of need. Essentially this means practising differentiation in teaching and adjusting how content/ideas are communicated to students based on who they are as learners and people. Particularly if a student is performing outside the 'average' (either exceeding or still developing), this means adjusting to their needs by (among other things) curating differentiated resources and adapting delivery style. Differentiation is especially important in an all-abilities classroom, unfortunately public education is perpetually underfunded and overcrowded so everyone's just out here doing their best (the decent people of the world at least). BUT! WHILE I'M ON IT! SPEAKING OF THE THINGS I'VE TAG RAMBLED, the education system's (global) inability to adequately differentiate for students of different-abilities, particularly students with ADHD, ASD and Dyslexia, is perhaps the greatest failing of the whole dang thing and if anyone who ever stumbles across this is neuro-divergent and feels like they were a bad student or couldn't 'keep up' in mainstream education- THAT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT. You don't have to break yourself to 'fit', school is MEANT to bend for you. (Particularly when you're young, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG)
ANYWAY, the fictional football of it all!
We don't see a lot of Ted actually coaching in this show (stick with me). The scenes in which he 'coaches' are typically him and various other coaching staff standing on the sidelines while the team skirmishes or occasionally runs drills, so me saying Ted doesn't differentiate is more based around his patented Ted-talks. NOW, Ted PROBABLY knows the team fairly well as individuals, particularly in season 2 and 3, purely by having spent quite a lot of time with them, despite this the only times we really see him 'adjust' his style with the team are ironically season 1 (examples include conferencing Jamie and Roy in 1x04 For The Children, and allowing/facilitating Nate's speech in 1x07 Make Rebecca Great Again). The moment that always sticks out to me as most significant is when he goes and seeks out Keeley's advice on how to get through to Jamie in 1x02 Biscuits.
Side note: I will be forever obsessed with Keeley jumping straight from 'blowjobs' to one of the four operant conditioning techniques (positive reinforcement) when asked about this. That woman is a very fascinating puzzle of a person.
Ted recognises that his typical perpetual-optimism-style isn't cracking the Jamie-Tartt-nut and seeks out a different opinion. This kind of collaboration and whole-system approach is key in teaching too, either by tapping the knowledge-well of a student's broader school context or the difficult-to-crack student's parents.
SO, having gotten the Jamie-Tartt-cheat-code from Keeley he DOES meet Jamie at his point of need, speaks clearly to him and communicates what he needs from him. AND IT WORKS! Temporarily! During the conversation between the two in Ted's office we see Jamie engage, he even practises self-reflection! Granted it's about his left foot cross, but still! The nut is cracked.
Jamie even maintains the perspective Ted has taught him for about two seconds while talking to Trent, until Jamie's other (definitely not positively-reinforced) behaviours rear up and he reverts to what James others have taught him.
On the other hand.
Multiple times throughout the show we see Jamie be visibly or verbally confused by Ted's communication style. Ted often talks in meandering metaphors that Jamie doesn't seem to be able to follow. We verbally hear him state 'Why doesn't he just say that then, do you know what I mean?' in 2x07 Headspace after Beard has to translate Ted's 'peas and carrots/beefchunks' analogy to 'starters and reserves'. Then there's the infamous 'What the fuck are Denver Broncos?' from 3x09 La Locker Room Aux Folles. The only notable time we really see Jamie 'get' one of these metaphors is the sewer-system-tunnels from 3x01 Smells Like Mean Spirit.
(His understanding of that specific metaphor, along with his use of the magnets to demonstrate total football in 3x07 The Strings That Bind, and a Watsonian-perspective of his near perfect mimicry of movements he saw two years ago when executing the decoy play in 3x12 So Long, Farewell, are actually all examples I use to head-canon Jamie as a primarily visual/physical based learner. For whatever that's worth!)
NOW! Ted's willingness to seek and apply alternate techniques in season 1 when he should know the team as both individuals and a collective the least, coupled with his inability or unwillingness to practise differentiation in later seasons when he DOES KNOW THEM is why I don't think Ted is meeting the team, specifically Jamie at their/his point of need. Any person's ability to differentiate behaviour to meet the needs/requirements/comforts of the individual or group they're talking to is increased the more they know them. (We all do this in life, consciously or subconsciously we typically try and 'match the vibe' of whoever we're communicating with [doubly so for people who're engaging in masking.])
Ted should and does learn more about Jamie as a person and his background as the show progresses. He listens to Jamie vocalise both his internal justifications for his actions and his reflections of those justifications/actions in 1x06 Two Aces, he sees him being explicitly physically abused in 1x10 The Hope That Kills You, he listens to him describe a spiralling mindset in 2x02 Lavender, he sees him being explicitly verbally abused in 2x08 Man City.
Of course, one of the fascinating things about Jamie is how much he learns and grows over the course of the show, and there are instances in which I don't think Ted is recognising that (primarily his dismissal of Jamie in 3x03 4-5-1 and not utilising Jamie's knowledge of total football as a resource from the beginning in 3x07 The Strings That Bind).
Ted understands and has previously applied Jamie responding well to positive reinforcement, yet at multiple times in the series doesn't respond in a way that reflects his perspective being informed by that knowledge. Essentially not practising the appropriate level of care/caution when interacting with/around Jamie.
There's not intervening on Jamie's behalf in 2x03 Do the Right-est Thing or 2x06 The Signal when the team and Roy are targeting or ignoring him respectively. The assumed absence of any follow up to the events of 2x08 Man City, the Zava of it all in season 3, and of course the eternal 'forgiveness' kicker from 3x11 Mom City.
POINT BEING. And to actually answer your inquiry lol, I think Jamie is someone who needs clear communication, ideally bracketed in positive reinforcement based operant conditioning as a learning technique (reward behaviour you want reinforced by offering something desirable [praise in Jamie's case]) and visual/physical aid/references for concepts; as a LEARNER.
AS A PERSON, there's more. Ted can readily infer from all he's heard and seen that Jamie's a victim of child abuse. The long term damage to the adult psyche that abuse during formative years has is astronomical, it literally changes the foundational structures of a person's brain. And yet, again, we never see Ted even acknowledge this. Jamie in 3x11 Mom City, incidentally compares his father to Freddy Krueger, Ted elaborates on the comparison, then Jamie reiterates that Freddy Krueger's 'fucking terrifying'. Ted doesn't reassure Jamie (the requirement of his point of need), he gives him a Ted-talk (and in doing so doesn't differentiate his perspective/communication technique).
As far as what Ted thought the situation needed... search me I've got no idea. I do think Ted projects onto Jamie a hell of a lot. That he gets Jamie's personhood and life experiences all tangled up in the emotions he has about his father's death and his consequent perceived abandonment, his insecurities about his own ability to parent Henry and even in his own inability to clearly communicate with his mother. I do think Ted relies on his own forced optimism to 'get by'. Like how a great white shark dies if it stops swimming, if Ted stops being 'Ted', if he stops swimming, his past and his fears and his feelings will catch up to him and swallow him whole. (For what it's worth, I do think Ted is more unwell than even the show explicitly tells us, much like Jamie experiencing ongoing trauma due to childhood abuse, the effects both short-term and long-term as well as potential causalities of having a parent die by suicide are... grim.)
(Essentially the entire fandom has talked about basically all of this at one point or another, I'm just using slightly different language.)
NOW! These characters are fictional (obviously) and I am judging them based on real-people conventions and the best-principles of my own profession, as well as my background in theoretical psychology (which I think I forgot to mention and is also probably [??] relevant). My Doylist-perspective of Ted and his coaching/communication style is ...kinder, but if I get too sucked into the narrative it results in either brief tag-rambles or... whatever this thing I've just typed is. I think it's been too long since I've written academically, my thoughts have gone circular 🫠
ANYWAY! I hope this made something-approaching sense! Thank you again for asking to hear my thoughts! Always happy to word vomit!
ALSO, thank you for saying my tags are excellent (you are the first and currently only to say so!) - The tags are where I send my thoughts to die (in a 'I must banish them to move on' kind of way rather than a 'I'm strangling them' kind of way) so you saying they're excellent is even MORE flattering than you realise! Makes my brain want to purr 💚🤣

i hope no one minds if i inconsistently liveblog this bitch: doctor who season one from 1x04
Tumblr media
1x04
Tumblr media
HELLO??
A WHOLE YEAR???
shit
“you’re 900 years old?” “yeah.” “my mum was right, that is one hell of an age gap.” lmfaooo
“i’m the only person who knows it exists.” spoke too soon
damn, he left her. i wonder if the key he gave her was even real.
it was a pig 😭
OH NOOOO
every time they get separated, shit goes off the rails
IS HE GONNA KILL HER MOM?!
1x05
girl, FUCK the emergency protocols
“sorry.” 😭
that shit was intense
“my mother’s cooking.” “good, put her on a slow heat and let her simmer.” CACKLING
i feel so bad for her mom :(
1x06
this episode really is…something.
why the fuck is the doctor just offering up all of this information???
he really should have seen this coming
*pretends to be shocked*
their cockiness is gonna get them killed
i never want rose and the doctor to be separated EVER again
“what use are emotions if you won’t save the woman that you love?” damn
don’t know how i feel about this dude joining them
1x07
“he’s your boyfriend.” “not anymore.” did i miss something???
something’s wrong…
is that guy dead?
i don’t trust adam at all
rose is so stupid. i could understand if it was mickey she was trusting but she doesn’t even know this man
huh, that was unexpected.
what the actual fuck
1x08
this ep’s gonna be so sad
the doctor never should’ve taken her to that day
“alright, i’ll tell him you’re not my boyfriend.” obsessed with her thinking that was the issue 😭
not important but jackie looks really good with her hair like that
well. that was heartbreaking.
1x09
sorry, but if a kid wearing a fucking plague mask was repeatedly saying “mummy” in an eerie voice, i would have turned and walked the other way. r.i.p. to rose but i’m different
what part of “don’t answer it.” is hard to understand? lmao
“excellent bottom.” gross.
i know i sound like a broken record but what the fuck?!
this is one creepy ass episode
this dude is coming on so strong dkgjgks
“finally, a professional.” rose, be serious.
“they’re not dead.” okay.
girl, what the fuck?
1x10
i can’t believe that worked lmfaooo
“those would’ve been terrible last words.” 😭
“half this street thinks your missus must be messing about with mr haverstock, the butcher. but she’s not, is she? you are.” SCREAMING
“i sent it to its room. this is its room.”
Tumblr media
that’s fucking terrifying
“the first day i met him, he blew my job up. that’s practically how he communicates.” pls
“okay, so he’s vanished into thin air. why is it always the great- looking ones who do that?” “i’m making an effort to not be insulted.” “i mean…men.” “okay, thanks, that really helped.” fkfhhgdj
i hate jack for interrupting their dance. IT WAS JUST GETTING GOOD.
“carry on with whatever you were…doing.” “we were talking about dancing.” “it didn’t look like talking.” “didn’t feel like dancing.” 😭
these episodes are so fucking creepy but they’re definitely the best of the season
oh my God, he’s her son
THEY’RE DANCING 🥹
1x11
i can’t wait for mickey’s reaction to jack
“trust me, safest place in the universe.” famous last words
i hope the doctor doesn’t trust her
poor mickey
“it’s always the doctor, it’s never me.” buddy you should’ve known you weren’t first choice when she left you in the beginning
she’s an egg 😭
1x12
i almost don’t want to press play.
lmao, what the hell
it always comes back to floor 500
oh shit, the doctor cause all of that?
WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK
rose can’t be dead
THANK GOD
i can’t believe the daleks actually survived
1x13
i’m not ready to say goodbye to nine
rose is getting a taste of her own medicine with the doctor and lynda djfjgjs
HE KISSED THEM BOTH 😭 I LOVE JACK
i can feel my heart breaking
who the fuck is bad wolf if it isn’t the daleks???
mickey’s really getting on my nerves this ep
HELLO
Tumblr media
“there’s nothing left for me here.” ‘nothing?” “no.” she’s RUTHLESS 😭 but honestly he shouldn’t be surprised at this point
JACK ☹️
“i am the bad wolf.” BITCH???? WHAT????
i got my kiss but at what cost
OH SHIT THEY LEFT JACK
all i feel is pain
that’s it??? how am i ever going to move on from eccleston? how the hell are you guys strong enough do this every season? cause i’ll tell you how i’m doing: not well, bitch!!

it's weekly tag game wednesday thursday! i was tagged (and/or mentioned) by so many sweethearts, namely @jrooc, @creepkinginc, @doshiart, @mybrainismelted, @deedala,
@gardenerian, @blue-disco-lights, @spookygingerr, @thepupperino, @stocious,
@vintagelacerosette, & @palepinkgoat 💛 I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH (and if i missed anyone bc of the glitch i am so, so sorry!!!)
how did you get into the fandom? a friend of mine on twitter DM’d me a gallavich compilation video in mid-2020 and said “i think you might really like this show” — i’d tried watching it before in 2018 but only made it to 1x06 which is a CRIME. can you imagine if i’d kept going? insanity. anyway. the worms got me, i made a new tumblr in october 2020, and the rest is history ✨
how long have you been here? 3.75 years and counting
what’s the first fandom channel you found? (Youtube, Reddit, Tumblr, Insta, Twitter, FB, other?) YouTube, then tumblr
what’s your favourite now? tumblr now and forever
which mutual have you known the longest in the fandom? @7x10mickey — hi lizzie! ily lizzie!
which tumblerino’s did you have your first fandom crush(es) on and wanted to get to know? funny you should ask! my very first fandom crush was the beautiful, talented, spectacular @gardenerian. i was mesmerized by their gifs and their playlists and wanted to be their friend so i messaged them requesting a gif set based on a song from the show. cut to 3.5 years later and i’m packing a suitcase to visit them for the second time in a month. life is funny like that!
first Gallavich fan fic you read (or that blew you away that you remember) The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Ian Gallagher by @goodkwuestion. read it in like 3 days flat. one of the best pieces of literature, fanfiction or other, that i’ve ever read
first fan art that blew your mind? i don’t remember exactly which one but it was definitely one by @steorie — one of the first artists i followed in the fandom!
fanfic trope that you were sure wasn’t for you but now you low key (or high key) love? echoing @deedala (who also knows how deep it goes) and saying SPORTS AU!!!!!! boy oh boy. i am IN THE TRENCHES
what surprised you most about this fandom? how kind and considerate everyone is. i’ve never been a part of a community that is so welcoming and warm and it makes me all fuzzy (positive)
moment in the show (or YT vids if you’re one of those) that you fell in hyperfixation with Gallavich? the club kiss (though i was fixated after 1x07 i will not lie to y’all)
ian or mickey? i’m saying both and you can’t stop me!!!!
which Gallagher or Milkovich are you? fiona. hot mess, waffle knit henley tees, dreams of owning a laundromat, comes from a chaotic family, eldest daughter syndrome, always ugly crying for one reason or another
tags below the cut!
