it's wild to see people say stuff like "sansa is a politician, arya is a warrior" while not being able to point out a single political act sansa has achieved, and not being able point out any of arya's "warrior skills" that isn't the handful of fencing lessons with syrio she received for like five months max lol
Politician!Sansa and Warrior!Arya are two fascinating ends of a fanon ouroboros; Neither concept exists outside of the other and neither concepts are based on the books. This fandom is just so attached to the idea of Sansa being this incredible politician, with intelligence above every other character, that her having nothing in her own chapters to support that idea doesn't stop them. That's why Arya's intelligence, skills, and entire character arc get reduced to her being nothing but a walking, talking weapon. Like you said, her "warrior" capabilities are essentially the handful of lessons she had with Syrio where her most important + relevant lesson was how to observe her surroundings. Her only "combat" training with the FM was her defending herself with a staff when she lost her eyesight. There's nothing to suggest that she's going to be a warrior, in fact we get the exact opposite. We get constant reminders of Arya's small stature and lack of strength that prevent her from fighting/defending herself in certain situations. All her kills rely on sneak attacks/stealth and she's never been in an outright swordfight with anyone. George even refrains from calling her a warrior like Robb and Jon. Brienne and Asha are examples of female characters who are actual fighters and if you compare their chapters, you can see the difference.
But then Arya's entire existence is antithetical to fanon!Sansa's. Her Harrenhal arc is what people pretend Sansa was doing in KL, her relevance to the North gets transferred to Sansa, and her intelligence and political activeness are erased so that Sansa can shine. They'll write essays on how Sansa is the most intelligent, politically savvy character and how Dany/Jon/Tyrion's arcs only exist to highlight her own ruling arc but the second someone asks them for evidence from the books, it's crickets. I don't understand why their enjoyment of her character hinges on her being the most important/intelligent one. No Arya stan is under the illusion that she's going to be the political character or outclass Dany, Jon, or Tyrion. It's just part of her story so we acknowledge it. Arya is going to have her political arc in Braavos and Sansa is going to have her political arc in the Vale, they aren't mutually exclusive. The only issue is that some people want Sansa to be the only one with a political arc and that's not the story that George is telling.

heyy. I have a bit of a silly question, but I haven't been able to find enough information to get over it. I've been trying to learn more about how theatre took place in Greece, and all sources I looked at so far mention that in each of the the three days of the festival of the city dionisias, the contesting playwrights would present three tragedies and one satyr play each. but I'm not clear yet on how many playwrights that meant exactly, nor in how were these playwrights were chosen to be there. if it was only one a day, do you know if there were other competitions beforehand to filter them out, or should we assume there weren't a lot of people able to compete at that level anyway? or if more than one playwright presented per day (seems odd since it would mean at least 8 works a day, which is a lot), do we have an estimate on how many they would be? sorryy if this is like. a really stupid question. but no one has been clear on it in the texts I've been looking at.
I don't have any specific ancient texts or modern scholarship to direct you to as sources on this, but here's a rundown:
The Dionysia had three days of tragic performance and three tragedians competing with four plays each. On each day, one playwright presented his work in the form of three tragedies plus one satyr play, so one playwright and four plays per day. There's some disagreement over what time the proceedings likely started/ended, but the performances probably took about 4-5 hours each day. So we're not thinking of the audience as sitting in the theater from sunrise to sundown, but we should probably also assume a fair amount of coming and going as well as snacking and talking in the audience during the plays. At the end of the third day prizes would be awarded. I would assume that the playwrights drew lots for going first/second/third, and I also suspect that it might have been seen as an advantage to go either last or first, though I'm not sure which. (And then the next day, the four competing comic playwrights presented one comedy each, all on the same day.)
We do know that the archon chose which playwrights would compete in tragedy at the Dionysia and allotted them funding and a chorus, but we don't know exactly how this choice was made, and the mechanism was probably different at different points in time. It was likely pretty informal at the beginning of the fifth century and become more formalized later on, once playwriting became a more established profession with a lot of prestige, and also once certain families had established it as their family business. I would imagine that c. 490 or so, the archon and the handful of working 'tragic' writers (probably something closer to amateurs) likely all knew each other, and the archon might have just picked three he liked or whose work in previous years had been good, maybe with some indication of the subject they were planning. From at least the second half of the fifth century and likely for the majority of it, would-be competitors probably submitted some sort of proposal to the archon, whether this was titles, full or partial draft scripts, outlines of their proposed plays, or maybe the playwright performing a sample monologue, and the archon chose which three would receive a performance slot in the festival and the funding to train a chorus. The winner from the previous year may have been guaranteed one of the three spots. But the archon would not have been able to see performances of these plays in order to judge whether or not to include them in the festival, except for what the playwright (or a friend) might be able to perform himself, since a playwright had to be approved by the archon before he would get personnel like a producer/sponsor, a chorus, or, in the later years of the fifth century, potentially his lead actor(s).

As someone who has lived in the south where the water trough is anywhere from mildly annoying to actively terrifying, who has lived on a fairly decently sized island where it is indeed absolutely terrifying to be cut off from the mainland suddenly with little to no help from the government for an extended period of time--
After No Man's Land and all the issues that arose then, I'd like to propose the new way of interring their dead would be mausoleums. Possibly especially with Gotham canonically existing on a system of caves. An island made of caves on the East Coast that gets battered by hurricanes almost every year is just asking to get sunk a la Atlantis but its fucking Gotham and i think the Gothamites would raise it from the sea floor again out of sheer spite.
But with mausoleums you:
Dont have your son crawling six feet through packed dirt after inexplicably coming back to life
Dont have long buried coffins and corpses getting flooded/shaken/otherwise disturbed and shunted into the water system/streets/underground reservoirs (or Lazarus Pits, since there's one of those down there too, as if Gotham didn't have enough things wrong with it)
Continues the Gotham aesthetic
Have more places for various characters to have a private mental breakdown in
Have more places for various characters to find ominous warnings etched or graffiti'd on the walls
Have more places for things much older than the mausoleums have been En Vogue™ for to inexplicably appear and send shivers down the spine
The Gothamites are very firm about not really being part of the US. The US kind of looks at the South like we're really fucking strange, and the South looks at New Orleans like they've taken the South and concentrated it, carbonated it, and shook it really hard.
I want the same vibes for Gotham. This is their home. They are weird and stubborn to a fault and everything is on fire and the government is corrupt and the people aren't always good but nobody else understands. No one else ever could. Who else has seen the lights for rescue appear on the horizon only to see the light of death on the waters, ensuring no help would ever come? They are resourceful and violent and resentful but the gods won't help you if you cross one of their own.
#the stoneworkers built Gotham#if it existed in reality itd be a marvel of nature's construction#if No Man's Land went as it did it'd be the metalworkers and stone masons to build the city back up#and with the earthquake everyone would be utterly terrified to dig into the ground. not after having to excavate the subways.#Jason comes back to Gotham and it has Changed.#in the scant year(s?) between No Man's Land and Jason's return there are buildings gone and buildings entirely new#but look like they're a century old. because the stonemasons and metalworkers had to work with what they had.#and what they had was ruins and a lot of them had to work together to piece metal and stone together to make something unshakeable#gotham is the embodiment of the riches and ruins that was the 1920s in America and a lot of the architecture of the time#was either very practical or very maximalist#the Chrysler building in NYC was built in that era and is a shining example of both#so please imagine with me: cobbled stone hewn into fitted shapes‚ held together with radial metal lines curves.#i think later down the line Gotham U would be an architectural and civil engineering powerhouse#Gotham's architecture would be akin to that of a bunker. unshakeable. wind resistant. blast resistant.#composed of materials that make it easy to wipe everything down after a flood and continue on.#after Katrina my centuries old school literally mopped the walls and ushered us back in inside of two weeks#my family and i had been rescued from our island only days prior#shh ruby world building is not always for the tags

helloo i'm briefly not dead once again. here to report that i bought a song commission for one of my s/i's which i've wanted for a while and i will be reporting back once it's made and mainly posting over here to ask: have any other selfshippers written/commissioned music for their ship or have also thought of doing this before? i feel like this is unexplored territory for selfship that should definitely be explored

I am determined to become a better person and one way of doing this in my mind is to read up on leftist theory so I can better help people after understanding current world events and systems.
Please give me recommendations for books to read.
I feel I understand a fair amount of the basics so I'd prefer more intermediate options rather than leftism for dummies but hey, you never know. So really anything that's not super advanced would be preferable as well as anything that can be found in a library or in PDF form since I would rather not spend a lot of money on this.
There's always more to learn so rest assured I will continue to look for material and read it as long as I think it helpful and/or interesting.

hi! first, big fan of your work, i adore your renditions <3 my favourite is that little joyous jaunt of the Tangled dance section you did, so fun! second, do you still do track comparisons? if not ignore me but if yes, ive been wondering for a long time about AR (-Augmented Rhythm-)(San Fransokyo) in KH3 and Wake Up from TWEWYFM. they use the same beat and ...sparkly effect sfx and its been driving me nuts. hope you have a good day!
Thanks^^ I hope you're doing well too. Prepare for a lot of me biting my tongue in this response I'll be honest, almost all of Ishimoto's work for the game can be found elsewhere in some way or another --but you're right. AR-Augmented Rhythm- and ??? (Wake Up) share so many elements that I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he used the track as a template for his KH3 stuff. As a matter of fact, Ishimoto has been smashing together those samples for a while now; he posted a track he called "EVOLVE" on his soundcloud 9 years ago using many of the same soundbites (most of which come from music construction kit companies like Zero-G and Ueberschall)
This similarity in unrelated tracks seems to be a common thing with the tracks he releases--as an example, many of his orchestral boss tracks for KH3 seemed to be templated from his work on the mobile game Dissidia Opera Omnia as well.

I watched an episode of the twilight zone a few weeks ago where this guy had to relive the same day over and over again for a little over a year. and he was trying to win the affection of this lady, and find different ways to break his curse and move on from the day so that she could remember him. and after all these tries where she didn’t remember him, he just kinda. snapped. realized that she just wouldn’t remember tomorrow, so why not do what he wanted with her while he had the chance?
and what I’m trying to say is. yuuta. basically.
