Actually, with the new update have a little post on why I believe that the proper name of Malleus' mother is "Malenore" and not Malenoa:

Ok, so as discussed in this post, I hypothesize that Crowley is Malleus' father - the illusive Sleeping Dragon Lord Raven.

And that is important because (1) that makes him the Twisted Wonderland's personification of original Diablo the Raven. Oh! And would you look at that! Diablo and Crowley are both names associated with devils, demons, and the occult.

And (2) it cements both his role as an ultimately subserviant figure to the Queen (Malleus' mother) of Briar Country as well as his role as Mad Hatter.

A man who lost his most beloved, most beautiful Flower of Evil - his wife. And a man who through one way or another ended up in a constant state of overblot, a state of madness, nonesense, and repeating patterns born from trauma and unresolved mental issues. (Almost like the Twisted Wonderland as a whole, eh? but I digress..)

So, that being said: Are you familiar with the poem "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe?

And if we adhere to the Twisted Wonderland's apparent naming tradition of the Draconia family always having "mal" in their name as reference to the same prefix meaning bad, wrongful, or well... evil, then we suddenly have the name:

I think they should make drowning a recurring theme with the Master. Intentionally, I mean.

We have the Torvic rock murder (where due to the discrepancy between the events and memories of the events, he was both the drowned and the saviour), the, by the audio's standards, foundational moment that made the Master who he is (who the Doctor was supposed to be).

Yana washing up on the coast when he was a child, devoid of memory, or background, or evidence of who he is.

And I know it comes up in at least one other audio.

The association of the drowning with change, not necessarily for the better, could be an interesting connecting theme.

As last time a bunch of info dumping on my Legacy.

Theron & Charlie just before Nathema. She’s very in love and therefore about to be real pissed. Just so furious because it’s easier than being heartbroken. In my canon run it’s Winter, Charlie, Codex & Lana that ultimately track him down.

Codex and Emer (pronounced ey-mer) passing some time on Odessen. Codex hasn’t found Vector yet at that point, and they enjoy fooling around with Emer. Not just for the physical connection but because it brings them a greater understanding of the inner workings of the Sith and Dark Council.

Codex is the product of their Cipher training, they’re calm, collected and nearly impossible to read. They typically report directly to Lana and actually become very close with Esskelle who shares many of their personality traits. They both also have a bit of a masochistic streak.

Emer didn’t romance Quinn. I’m considering Risha, Elara or even Senya. Emer is fairly typical Sith she’s passionate and full of rage she readily brings to battle. She’s also petty and egotistical. However she’s fiercely loyal to those in her good graces. She loves Vette like a sister and it is to Vette’s credit that Emer is not a complete monster.

Esskelle taking a hit in training. Showing off her tattoo that is a massive pita. I still need to work out a full design for her arm. I also need to work out how she lost it. I want to say as an injury while being trapped in carbonite, or during an encounter with Vaylin. She’s still clunky with it but is quickly learning how to use the weight to her advantage.

Izzy (Isra’fael) doing some exercising. She’s a smuggler who has a decent reputation and joined the Alliance to make money (which she has). She’s hyper competitive with Charlie and it frustrates her to no end that Charlie is better than her in most things despite being (in her mind) dumber and less prepared. In pushing herself constantly she’s become a valuable asset that Hylo is particularly fond of. She also gets on very well with Vette as they share similar backgrounds and a love for a good caper.

Aric and Leyliana’s reunion makes me feel stuff. Him thinking she’s been dead for five years and then she appears out of the blue and he’s skeptical and nervous but she smells and looks and speaks just like he remembers. I’m gonna have to write about it for real here soon.

Yes yes, it seems that this is very true!

While looking around for possible information I discovered a twstsoku thread on this very topic, full of people reminiscing about the little visual changes that the game experienced in its early days, and this was one of them! ^^

Someone points out that there are actually illustrations of Cater with red eyes in the Magical Archives Game Guide, and I can confirm that that is true as well!

There are two drawings--one of Cater in his labwear and one in his gym uniform--where his eyes are red instead of green. So it seems that his character design may have had originally red eyes, and the change to green was made fairly late in the development process!

(His eye color has since been corrected to green.)

For a personal theory, Yana has mentioned something about early-Cater before: he wasn't supposed to be human!

"Cater was a beastman, there was a character based on a white rabbit motif, and so on…" - Toboso Yana (Magical Archives Game Guide (2020))

She does not say that Cater was going to be the white rabbit character, just that a white rabbit character existed and Cater was also a beast-person, but I wonder: that unnamed white rabbit character, was it originally Cater? 👀 Is that why is eyes were red in early stages of development?

But then I discovered another theory:

The Kingdom Vistaria, is the most powerful and respected kingdom as it holds the most dangerous and feared creatures in its abyss; oddly enough unharmed, tamed and loved by the Queen of Vistaria, whilst being intimated by the King.

Somehow, Greymorr had planted a curse that destroyed the barrier the king and queen created that safely separated the creatures of the Abyss from the general lives in the society of Vistaria. Not only did this free the monsters of the Abyss, but it altered their understanding and connection to the kingdom making them go rogue, destroying anything in their path.

Luckily, he wasn't able to control them into obeying his orders and instead went against anything that tried to assert order onto them. Even the Vistarian Royal couple. At this point, Diana was 15 years old and the king and Queen sent their daughter to the second closest Planet to them, Earth, with her pearl pendant protected by a positively cursed locket. She needs to find the other princesses on Eath to help her get more powerful and return back to Vistaria and defeat Greymorr.

Prince Soma: possibly being the key that causes Ciel to have a conflict with Sebastian?

I don't know if im the first one to notice how Anime!Abberline and manga! Prince Soma have some very striking parallels when it comes to their relationship to O!Ciel, which made me realize a few things.

First of all, I do think that some concepts of season 1 in general do parallel to the manga. Here's an excellent analysis on the topic if you want to dive deeper on that area.

Alright, let's start with me drawing some parallels to make this analysis more digestable, and then explaning how this will theoretically give us a conflict between the demon butler and our petty child.

Basically, Abberline drawing the similarties with our earl due to a shared trauma/tragedy: They both lost their families, but one learned to heal from the event, and the other completely refuses to accept happiness. (guess who's who, lol)

Fundamentally, O!Ciel is creating a hypothetical comparassion: If he hadn't gone through his personal tragedy, then he would've been as naive and innocent as Soma.

Something to consider about this parallel: The narrative in both cases textually highlights the similarities between Ciel and Abberline/Soma.

O!Ciel saying he only needs pawns, and that he has no time to have real emotional connections with people.

O!Ciel saying he uses people as pawns and doesn't see Soma as a friend, he doesn't need him by his side.

Notes to take here:

In both of these instances, o!Ciel refueses to form real human connection.

Both of these convesations spark up due to confrontation about o!Ciel's true intentions and nature.

His face is turned on both scenes/pannels, making us question how genuine o!Ciel's words are.

"Keep your distance from me, or you'll get killed" - Ciel to Abberline, season 1 episode 20

o!Ciel explicitly stating why he kept Prince Soma at arms lenght. He didn't want him and Agni to get hurt/killed in result of their closeness to our earl.

Things to point out:

o!Ciel's entire reason to push people away is because he doesn't want them to get hurt, so his earlier refusal to cut ties with others is due to fear and hestiance to accept love.

Abberline got hurt because of his relationship with o!Ciel, likewise with Soma. Causing our earl to display emotional reactions in both cases, demostrating he does care for the people close to him.

While Abberline ended up dying due to his closeness to our earl, Soma did survive the attack in chapter 125, but a part of him died with Agni as shown in the image below:

Remember when o!Ciel said that he would've turned out like the prince if it weren't for the amount of abuse and grief he went through? Well, isn't it ironic that Soma is turning out exactly like o!Ciel after losing Agni: Turning his back to salvation, his heart longing for revenge after the injustice he was put through.

(I also want to point out, Yana had made a statement that Prince Soma was originally going to die instead of Agni, but changed her mind in respect for Agni's character.)

Now, lets run back to the title of this post:

"You do have a chance to move forward, to build a brand new future for yoursef. Don't ever forget that, promise, you won't." - Abberline, Black Butler season 1, episode 20

Before our dear investigator dies, he states that he wants o!Ciel to open up his world despite his desire for revenge.

How does this connect to Soma's resolve and his relationship to Ciel? Well...

Here, our prince boasts that he wants to become o!Ciel's "Agni." In other words, he wants to provide his friend with love and protection, creating a positive worldview for the earl, who continues to turn away from the light.

It's important to note that this was before Soma thought o!Ciel killed Agni! But of course, I feel like his initiaal intentions to help o!Ciel will come back when he finds out o!Ciel isnt the true killer. (also, Soma now has Agni's powers, so atleast physically, he already has his strenght that he will hopefully use to protect the ones around him.)

So, now what?

Anime!Abberline and Soma having a similar resolve for o!Ciel, as well as their relationship with him. (as if it isn't clear enough, Abberline died protecting o!Ciel, making the earl realize his own life has value).

Prince Soma has his back turned away from the light, and o!Ciel will witness this eventually. I think it's crystal clear that our earl wouldn't want the prince to make this decision, but wouldn't that make him doubt his own quest for revenge?

Circling back to Yana intending for Soma to die, there could be a chace for him to die while becoming o!Ciels "Agni", causing o!Ciel to realize how Soma died protecting him due to love and not bc of revenge, making him question everything about his own resolve??? Plus, if o!Ciel willingly gives his life now, then that would make Soma's sacrifice worthless.

There could be a slight chance, Prince Soma survives this whole ordeal, and completes his mission of protecting o!Ciel without dying. In this hypothetical, he would then decide to florish again and go back to india, which could give o!Ciel a similar relazation that maybe, his life is worth living, just like Soma's.

In the anime, Abberline's sacrifice causes our earl to truly question his contract with Sebastian, as well as his need for revenge.

This causes the demon to feel obvious anger towards his master. And throughout the following episodes, he desperately attempts to make the earl feel hopeless again. (he clearly doesn't want to lose the meal he has been working on for years).

In conclusion:

Theres plenty of textual evidence that Soma and the earl have lots in common, especially now that the prince lost someone and vows to get revenge.

o!Ciel and Soma's relationship with revenge as of now are in a similar stance, but Soma's initial idea of protecting o!Ciel and living for love instead of revenge will come in fruition soon enough.

What would be the point of having glaring obvious parallels, and not taking advantage of them to further create a long awaited conflict between the two main characters, additionally developing them?

i wanted to write something else in regards to diasomnia, and you could say twst in general—in fact you can consider this a part two to:

but today i wanted to talk about one thing in particular:

mages, ( or at least fae ), and them being a minority group

* i’m treating these as different but connected subjects btw—separated by a header. you’ll see it, trust. el oh el.

thinking about my last post, i came to the realization that i didn’t exactly specify what i meant by fae being a canonical minority race—other than of course sebek’s ordeal as a canonically mixed character. so for starters, let’s dive into that.

( there will definitely be b7 spoilers, but it’s necessary!! plus it’s restricted to lilia’s dream, so don’t worry about outside of that. )

while i’m not a fan of yana, i can admit she did an AMAZING job in realistically depicting the oppression the minority races face in twst.

but i’ll also be explaining it myself. fae go through a lot throughout the game, and i’m surprised people don’t think about it more often.

the vargas event sheds a good amount of light onto how fae ( specifically pixies ) are treated, which is basically dog water. their home is basically getting invaded whenever the event occurs, and each time the students are essentially being tasked with kicking them out, especially in the instances where you see how the students can’t understand what the pixies are saying due to the language barrier.

you can also refer to the fairy gala event, where the students sneak into the gala to retrieve the mage stone used for the fairy queen’s tiara. and here..sam basically admits to possessing fairy dust illegally, which is explained to be a source necessary for fae survival—which basically implies there’s fairy dust trafficking occurring in the world of twisted wonderland.

( by the way if anyone’s curious, this is occurring on chapter four of the fairy gala event ).

we even see these sorts of things outside of events—crowley keeps fire pixies in the fireplaces of nrc as a heating system, a cheap power supply.

not to mention..apparently, it’s normal to be taught how to summon them for them to do menial labor FOR you.

( * i honestly don’t get how people side with humans knowing all of this…either you missed them ( weren’t able to get to certain events ) or are late to the fandom, all of which is understandable,, or you just didn’t read. also brings me to another reason why sebek hating humans is understandable, el oh el ).

now moving on to the bit that involves the book 7 spoilers, which i believed i addressed in the first part, actually—the fact that in lilia’s dream, the fae are actively being colonized as they fight in a war against the humans. reminds you of how in real life, white people were jealous of poc’s rich land and therefore wanted to take it, no? honestly i get disgusted thinking about why people would ever have a reason to like or side with henrik. fae are effectively the minority among the minority ( like bipoc, considering they’re basically what the “i” stands for, indigenous people who had their land being stolen by the white colonizers. honestly, it’s very obvious people who side with humans in twst don’t know anything about our real world history at all ).

also, like how the thread i mentioned before talks about, there’s other things with reflect how the minorities of twst are treated: in the first halloween event with the magicam monsters, malleus’s horns are tugged on and compared to bike handles ( and i know it’s not meant to be intepreted that way but i worry about how fans do, considering how fae age works and he’s a minor, but that’s a post for another day. if you guys want to hear it, i wouldn’t mind ). the reason this being something to note is because horns are live bone, based on dragon anatomy. they have feeling in them—so when there‘s a significant amount of weight on them, it hurts.

also, nocturnal species having virtually no assistance from the school ( after all night classes are never mentioned ), octopus merfolk, hyena beastman, etc., are considered lesser. like i said, the thread is good to look at if you want more, but anyway.

( i have realized that this post is getting a big lengthy, so i’m using a header ( banner? ) to cut it up a little..patooey! not to be mean, but this is sometimes me when people purposefully are ignorant to these things. )

anyway, we now move on, finally—to mages in general and why i consider them a minority group as well, even if they’re definitely not on the scale of the fae race.

i understand where people may think that things like this aren’t just numbers. but there’s a reason why it’s referred to as “minority” and “majority”. i,, kind of thought it was obvious if you took any math class ever, but whatever. i mean even if you’re white, if you were in say, japan, you’re the minority compared to the majority which are asians/japanese in specification. i will NEVER act like white people should be considered a minority group in GENERAL considering world history ( reverse racism isn’t a thing, i reccommend looking at this. it’s a myth really ), but it is literally statistics. plus, even white people can be discriminated against, and i can admit this as a person who is bipoc ( but let’s be real you cannot be racist towards white people ).

anyway, back to twst. no matter how you look at it, mages are a minority group given the literal statistics given to you in game. only 10% of the human population hold enough magic to even lift a cup, basic level. we don’t know the percent for other races, but this is still a very telling statistic in the rarity of mages, thus making them what i call them—a minority group.

now i’ll say this; fae are born with magic, and fae have magic ingrained into their society ( plus they don’t even have experience with modern technology ), it’s a part of their day to day life, though as i mentioned before, seeing as they’re the minority among minorities especially considering the human-fae war mentioned before, that just affirms that fact that mages are to be considered rare. ( plus it’s mentioned again in b7 humans greatly outnumber the fae, and even in the world map you can see briar valley is small ).

something i’ve noted and will say right now—the fact there are mages that belong to high society doesn’t automatically mean they’re not a minority/not oppressed. like, consider actual human history. can nobility/royalty, major world leaders not be a part of an oppressed society? african leaders, mexican leaders, etc, all who are people in power, world leaders who were oppressed by colonizers and killed. being someone in power doesn’t mean you’re not oppressed. not to MENTION present day celebrities and people in power ( i mean look at meghan markle ).

it’s true, while i say “there are mages”, you can look at twst to see that a majority of them are actually well off. but personally, i see this as a fact when we look at mages, we’re focused on night raven—which is quite literally a PRESTIGIOUS and PRIVATE academy meant for mages who are the cream of the crop. of course we’re going to be presented with many mages who possess power at least even if just influentially. also, of course we’re going to be shown how mages are perceived in society comfortably. we’re in a place where mages are the majority attending night raven as the prefect, though this is about in general to the world, so there’s that.

also, the idea that non mages are the ones being marginalized against, i kind of doubt it. i think there’s a clear reason why, at the very least, it would be happening inside night raven. remember how i said white people can be discriminated against, just never be racist against? i think that’s what’s happening here, given the way riddle acts with the prefect and the fact they had a magicless upbringing in book 1. while mages are the minority in general, in night raven they’re the majority. so among the mages we see, of course it’s easy to interpret it as non mages being the ones suffering the most in twst’s society. but i don’t see it that way, especially since unreliable narration exists, like with fae vs humans.

( yk how like, restaurants based around a specific ethnicity will give people not of that ethnicity a different menu with higher prices? when mages discuss magic levels, i feel like this is the equivalent el oh el )

( and anyway, that argument clearly falls apart when you look at ruggie.. i can see him fading away right now.. a large part of his character is that he and his village are in poverty if that. wasn’t obvious. if he can belong to a prestigious academy like night raven but still be in that kind of financial state, there are obviously mages who go through the same, he was just the lucky few to manage to make it into nrc. )

also, before society became accustomed to mages. again looking to the human-fae war, there was a large period of fear where rather than mages, they were referred to as “witches and wizards”. i don’t have much to emphasize there, but there having been a period of fear like that is rather telling.

while i understand mages have a special place in the workforce ( i mean fourth year students at night raven go off-campus for hands-on learning and to go job hunting ). but also..i think that’s pretty obvious given how magic is a very important resource even still among twisted wonderland’s society. after all, henrik was mining briar valley’s resources without permission, and since one of fae’s must valued resources involved the fairy dust mentioned earlier ( aka magic based ), even though mages were still feared at the time, it’s clear that magic itself is and back then was still valued even so ( i mean obviously, who wouldn’t want magic..which brings me back to the fact of colonizers wanting poc’s rich lands and such ). it’s just now in present day twst society, mages are considered “equal”. ( riddle mentions that their current society has “growing” diversity, so i can only guess things still need change ).

which is ALSO why i don’t think rollo was right about magic…uhm..because you know, fae rely on magic to live. their day to day lives. if exterminating magic means basically also exterminating a race…i don’t know you guys i don’t think that’s right!! sweats!!

Also Blood Hunt #5 preview!

Ngl, it also crossed my mind if Victor was somehow behind the Blood Hunt event, especially considering a bit sus that Latveria was safe from the vampires, but mostly I kept it to myself because he's also always prepared for any inconvenience (to the point that he literally has a dome to protect his country in case he needs to lock it down).

Besides, Victor's characterization will always depend on the writer, whether they'd rather write him as a full villain or simply a petty opportunist (which I believe is the case).

Well, yes, he was humbled by Clea when Stephen was gone and has been waiting for a chance to get the mantle (even his mommy told him so). But I hardly believe he would go against the Spouses Supreme, whether he was powerful enough to do so or merely because he respects Stephen to the point of leaving that matter alone as long as Stephen is the Sorcerer Supreme.

In any case, he saw an opportunity and he TOOK it, which is quite in character for him. Now I'm patiently waiting for the drama to unfold 🤭 (would be easier if we already had an announcement tho T_T)

By the way, it has never been a secret that Victor is my second favorite little meow meow so even though he gets a solo book as the Sorcerer Supreme, I'll keep posting about him for both personal and chronological reasons, just like I do sometimes when I see Yana with the mantle. These characters are connected to Stephen's lore, after all. It just happens that I like them as well 🏃🏻

Okay so. At some point soon Malleus is going to feel guilty and hate himself just for existing because if he hadn’t been born then Lilia wouldn’t be dying, and Silver wouldn’t be crying, at least that’s what he would think. And then Lilia would get mad at him for thinking about himself like that. And Malleus tells him in tears that he should’ve just left him to die in his egg so he wouldn’t have to live the rest of his life alone and without his family…and then they hug and Lilia promises that Malleus will find something to live for…..just like he did…

The day we get that inner monologue and we see all the inner pain Malleus had to go through. The centuries of loneliness.

How he wishes he was dead because his birth was what caused his loved ones pain (sounds familiar doesn’t it?!? See the hundreds of ways I can cry!!).

His parents wouldn’t be dead, Lilia wouldn’t have lost his best friends or been exiled/insulted, his grandmother wouldn’t have lost her daughter, and Silver wouldn’t be loosing his father!!

He should have just died while he was in that egg, at least that way, Silver and Lilia would have more time together.

What was the point of living? If he lost everyone in the end? What was the point of this magic if he was so useless??

(The fact he refers to himself as useless, this fae that loves Lilia and Silver, helped raise Silver, taught Silver and Sebek magic, helped at the VDC, saved Vil, etc). 😭😭😭

How Lilia was his only light at that lonely castle and then when he was finally old enough and strong enough, that cottage was his home because the inhabitants there was family to him, and how those lonely years were bearable because he had Lilia, Silver, and Sebek at the end of the tunnel.

How Lilia visiting him with gifts and making him shaved ice made life worth living.

How holding little Silver and seeing him grow made him happy and seeing how Sebek and Silver cared compassionately brought him joy.

His family.

That family is breaking right in front of his eyes: Lilia leaving and Silver crying.

And he can’t help them, but to find out he’s the reason for Lilia dying? For him loosing his magic and running away?

The source of torment? It’s true what everyone has been saying, he truly is a villain isn’t he?

And I want Lilia to just be furious! To tell him that’s not true! Hug him and tell him how loved Malleus truly is. And how he held on during exile because he knew that Malleus was alive. How him hatching was really his happiest moment and how much he loves him.

And that’s why, Malleus too will learn and make bonds. And this is his gift to Malleus. Their gift to him.

Lilia learned he can love because of Malleus, he changed because of him, and that is what Lilia wants for him.

For him to make many bonds and for him to love, as he has loved Lilia, Silver, and Sebek. Because that was the greatest gift Lilia has ever received. The love he got from his boys.

And Malleus will live a long life being able to form these bonds and connections and how, no matter how long, they will always be with him.

Always.

Because that’s what love is, isn’t it?

Everlasting.
