Hey everyone. Going into 2020, (and as of late) I’ve been less active with this solarpunk Tumblr and the lunarpunk and tidalpunk sideblogs because I’ve been really focusing in on the one most important solarpunk thing I can be working on: The Carbon Coast novel series.
I now have hired a creative coach who has assigned me to really just focus on getting that one big thing done with all my efforts and creative ability and spare time and money. When I do have a spare moment, I’m updating the Carbon Coast Patreon with patron-only content, previews, behind the scenes stuff, life updates, etc. That’s because the 11-or-so Patrons on there are chipping in as much money each month to support this story universe as some people do to afford Netflix every month! That’s huge, and so I try to post all updates and solarpunk content we’ve made on there (sometimes as public posts for followers who can’t support, too!)
So this is just an open letter for anyone curious that, it’s not that I don’t want to post, or that I think it’s not worth it, here on Tumblr lately, and I definitely don’t think people who aren’t paying for Patreon access shouldn’t get updates too, but my creative coach has literally analyzed my life/work/creative balance situation and has said I really should only be writing the novel itself, delegating all other work (like video production), and only updating the Patreon regularly to reward patrons and followers on there, with only occasional posts on other social media.
So that’s where we’re at going into 2020 and I hope the #solarpunk community is still thriving and collaborating and getting tight and focused on their own solarpunk stuff too here on Tumblr! I miss hunting for all things solarpunk and reposting like mad but I just gotta focus on this novel series so I can get them in the hands of people who can get it published ASAP, and as of New Year’s Eve, I really gotta be committed to focusing on that one thing.
Keep the solarpunk dream alive and growing. We are smol but mighty. We are the plant that grows through concrete!
Much love. Also, I didn’t put a link to patreon on here cus this isn’t a sales pitch, just an explanation. If you’re interested, you’ll seek it out on your own terms. But do remember that you can just follow for free and get the occasional public update on there, more often than I can post updates on here!
(plus, long updates like this on Tumblr seem tacky lol)

Welp, here goes everything. After 2 years of running this solarpunk blog and writing this solarpunk novel, and months running this solarpunk patreon and making this solarpunk video, let’s see how many of my 2,000 solarpunk followers will show up to reblog and join me in my solarpunk world.
Love you fellow solarpunks and i dont even care rn if no one supports this because at this point i’m so happy that I made it this far in bringing this all to life. It’s been a lonely stretch of hard work and determination to dream up an entire world and turn it into videos like this. I’m beaming. I love this.
The future is bright, even if I do run out of money to make stuff like this soon lol
Tomorrow my book's first animated scene goes live at 5 (PM EST). This one is a lunarpunk scene and we're doing a 1 hour live chat/Q&A right on the video page
I'm writing a #solarpunk book like these! Also a solarpunk winter short story called 'Apex Thaw' ApexThaw.com 👀 Full novel is 'The Carbon Coast' TheCarbonCoast.com 👀 #connorcarbon #amwriting #ecofiction #author #anthology #bookish #bookstagram #writerslife #clifi #ecopunk #betterfuture #optimism #book #story #thecarboncoast @thecarboncoast @photosynth.media @photosynth.music @sarenaulibarri @solarpunkaesthetics (at Traverse City, Michigan) https://www.instagram.com/p/BopbBA2HJYF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fiqoifssxbp2
3 contributors have joined The Carbon Coast blogging family and will be helping to bring you solarpunk, lunarpunk, and tidalpunk content at thecarboncoast.com! #solarpunk #lunarpunk #tidalpunk #thecarboncoast #connorcarbon #ecofiction #aesthetic #lunar #moon #ocean #vibes #nautical #sustainable #environment #climate (at Traverse City, Michigan) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoUFwTFhnwf/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xqbkn9acuo75
My website/blog TheCarbonCoast.com is now looking a lot better. Still making small fixes, but, visit the blog on the web and hit “About the book” to learn more about my solarpunk novel and much more!
Link in bio to relax to this animated scene from my book. Inspired by @asmrrooms. Swipe right to see the #solarpunk art and preview the video without me talking

I just completed the logo for my upcoming solarpunk podcast, “Solarpunk Settler” on my Carbon Coast Patreon page for my $2+ patrons to see. As a reminder, $1 of every patron support payment is donated to a solar energy construction non-profit called GRID Alternatives
My patreon isn’t officially launched yet, but there are already tons of solarpunk, lunarpunk and tidalpunk posts to be explored. Come pledge early, I won’t be charging for probably a month or two, still!
- It’s extremely important that you follow these instagrams: @thecarboncoast @photosynth.media and @photosynth.music so that when I apply for a publisher of the book, they see how big the following is. Tumblr doesn’t show that, so I need to focus more on connecting with you all over on Insta, Twitter, etc!
- I have found a co-contributor. An astrophysicist who will make sure the science and physics going on are as accurate as possible (because things are VERY different on planet Earth in The Carbon Coast story)
- Still seeking other contributors and potential publishers, of course
1,000 followers, that was fast! As promised, I’m creating a Patreon for the Carbon Coast solarpunk series which will let people get relaxing animated videos of scenes from the story (look up ASMR Rooms on YouTube for examples) as they are finished by artists!
The Patreon will also give you sneak peeks on my writing and production of The Carbon Coast, which will eventually be a print book, e-book, audio book, video book, and maybe even film someday. That means I always have something cool to show a sneak peek of, all part of the same world and story. Trust me, you want to see all this Solarpunk & Lunarpunk stuff in the making!
Subscribe to the mailing list on http://photosynth.media if you want to be the first to see the main character of the Carbon Coast story!
For my writing progress, that is. Though I do have artists on the job of painting, drawing and even animating art for my solarpunk series The Carbon Coast! Nothing will be slowed down for the Patreon perks people are waiting for!
The reason I’m so busy? The picture says 1,000 words! As you’ll see, I’m sampling (recording) an electric guitar for a virtual software company I can’t say the name of just yet. This recording isn’t really “musical” but instead is done note by note, for a total of thousands of little recordings! All these samples get put into a virtual guitar instrument that thousands of people will buy for about $150 or more from the company! It’s exciting work, but I’ve really got a lot of work still to do to make my deadline, so I really gotta strap in and focus on this!
Luckily, I already have artists in the middle of creating gorgeous art for the series, and we should see our first major Carbon Coast Patreon perk (the first of many animated cinemagraphs of scenes from The Carbon Coast world!) before April is over!
My Patreon still can’t be officially launched until the snow thaws out and I can record an awesome video at a solar/wind farm in my local area. But you can still become a Patron now if you want to see all of things I’m already posting about the Carbon Coast world, like art, secrets, and other things you can’t see here or elsewhere!
I’m posting things like this so you can understand a bit more about my life outside of creating the Carbon Coast world, and see that I’m a hard worker doing everything I can to do creative work for a living. When the time comes for me to really ask for your support on Patreon and elsewhere, I hope you’ll be able to believe in my story world as well as my passion as a person.
Trying to help build solarpunk as a living, breathing young adult is definitely not an easy balance, but I believe in it, so I hope you’ll believe in me not just in words but by actions.
Until then, peep the perks on the Patreon and join the club! I already have tons of awesome solarpunk and lunarpunk art & more waiting to be discovered on the patron-only feed!
